The paper reports the effects of selenium (Se) supply on growth and antioxidant traits of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv Han NO.7086) seedlings exposed to enhanced ultraviolet-B (UV-B) stress. Antioxidant responses of seedlings were different depending on the Se concentration. Compared with the control, the lower amount used (0.5 mg Se kg−1 soil) had no significant effect on biomass accumulation. The treatments with 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 mg Se kg−1 promoted biomass accumulation of wheat seedlings, and the increased amount in biomass was the most at 1.0 mg Se kg−1 treatment. Se treatments with 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 mg kg−1 also significantly increased activities of peroxidase (POD) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) and reduced the rate of superoxide radical (O2) production and malondialdehyde (MDA) content of wheat seedlings. In addition, anthocyanins and phenolic compounds content in wheat seedlings evidently increased by the treatments with 1.0 and 2.0 mg Se kg−1. The lower Se treatment had no significant effect on MDA content, although it increased activities of antioxidant enzymes (POD, SOD, and catalase activities) and reduced the rate of O2 production in wheat seedlings. These results suggest that optimal Se supply is favorable for the growth of wheat seedlings and that optimal Se supply can reduce oxidative stress of seedlings under enhanced UV-B radiation.  相似文献

Effects of Selenium on Wheat Seedlings Under Drought Stress   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The paper reports the effects of selenium (Se) supply on growth and some physiological traits of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv Shijiazhuang NO. 8) seedlings exposed to drought stress. The growth and physiological responses of seedlings were different depending on the Se concentration. The higher (3.0 mg Se kg−1) and lower amount used (0.5 mg Se kg−1) did not significantly affect on biomass accumulation. Treatments with 1.0 and 2.0 mg Se kg−1 promoted biomass accumulation of wheat seedlings. Treatments at 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 mg Se kg−1 significantly increased root activity, proline content, peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT) activities, carotenoids (Car) content, chlorophyll content, and reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) content of wheat seedlings. Lower Se treatment did not significantly effect on chlorophyll content and MDA content, although it also increased some antioxidant index (proline and Car content, POD and CAT activities) in wheat seedlings. These results suggest that optimal Se supply is favorable for growth of wheat seedlings during drought condition.  相似文献

The present research evaluated differential effects of sodium selenite and nano-Se on growth performance, tissue Se distribution, and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity of avian broiler. Broilers were randomly segregated into 12 groups so that three replicates were available for each of the three treatments (T-1, T-2, and T-3) and control groups. The control groups were fed basal diets without Se addition. T-1, T-2, and T-3 were fed with diets containing 0.2 mg kg−1 sodium selenite, 0.2 mg kg−1 nano-Se, and 0.5 mg kg−1 nano-Se, respectively. Compared with the control, Se supplementation remarkably improved daily weight gain and survival rate and decreased feed conversion ratio (P < 0.05). However, no significant difference was observed between T-1, T-2, and T-3. The tissue Se content was significantly higher (P < 0.05) in Se-supplemented groups than the control, and T-3 showed the highest. Furthermore, higher Se content was observed in liver, and there was a significant difference (P < 0.05) compared with that in muscle. As for serum and hepatic GSH-Px activities, Se supplementation remarkably improved GSH-Px activity (P < 0.05), and there was no significant difference (P > 0.05) between treatments (T-1, T-2, and T-3).  相似文献

The proximate composition, vitamin C, α-tocopherol, dietary fibers, minerals, fatty acid and amino acid profiles of three tropical edible seaweeds, Eucheuma cottonii (Rhodophyta), Caulerpa lentillifera (Chlorophyta) and Sargassum polycystum (Phaeophyta) were studied. The seaweeds were high in ash (37.15–46.19%) and dietary fibers (25.05–39.67%) and low in lipid content (0.29–1.11%) on dry weight (DW) basis. These seaweeds contained 12.01–15.53% macro-minerals (Na, K, Ca and Mg) and 7.53–71.53 mg.100 g−1 trace minerals (Fe, Zn, Cu, Se and I). The crude protein content of E. cottonii (9.76% DW) and C. lentillifera (10.41% DW) were higher than that of S. polycystum (5.4% DW), and protein chemical scores are between 20 and 67%. The PUFA content of E. cottonii was 51.55%, C. lentillifera 16.76% and S. polycystum 20.34%. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), accounted for 24.98% of all fatty acids in E. cottonii. These seaweeds have significant vitamin C (∼35 mg.100 g−1) and α-tocopherol (5.85–11.29 mg.100 g−1) contents.  相似文献

Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) was grown in greenhouse sand culture to examine the effect of salinity composition and concentration on Se accumulation by plants. In a 2×2×4 factorial experiment, salinity was added as either C1 or SO 4 2− salts to the irrigating solution to achieve an electrical conductivity of 0.5, 1.5–3.0, or 6.0 dS m−1. Selenium was added to the nutrient solution at a concentration of 0.25 or 1.0 mg Se(VI)I−1. Following the third cutting, the roots were washed and all plant material analyzed for dry weight and Se. Plant biomass production decreased with additions of either Se or salinity, regardless of composition. In the presence of Se, the yield reduction was greater with Cl salinity than with SO 4 2− salinity. Plant Se accumulation was reduced from 948 mg Se kg−1 to 6 mg Se kg−1 in the presence of SO 4 2− salts (0.5 mmol SO 4 2− l−1 vs. 40 mmol SO 4 2− l−1) due to an apparent Se(VI) −SO 4 2− antagonism. This Se−SO 4 2− antagonism prevented accumulation of Se and reduced Se-induced toxicity. A lesser antagonistic effect on Se accumulation was observed between Cl, and Se. A synergistic interaction between SO 4 2− and Se(VI) increased plant S concentrations in the presence of the relatively low basal SO 4 2− concentrations but not at the higher solution SO 4 2− concentrations. In many areas, soil and water containing high Se concentrations also contain large amounts of SO 4 2− . The occurrence of SO 4 2− with Se reduces plant accumulation of Se(VI) and may lower the risk of Se overexposure to animals feeding on forage material grown in high Se−SO 4 2− regions.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to determine the boron contents of some wild-growing mushrooms collected from the vicinity of several boron mines located in Balikesir, Turkey and compare the boron contents of some mushroom and soil samples. The locations of the mushroom samples collected were within the distance of 0–100, 100–500, and 500–1,000 m to the mines. Soil samples were taken from beneath randomly selected fungal fruit bodies. A total of 40 mushroom samples were found in the study area and 37 different species were identified. Among the 40 samples analyzed, the highest boron content was detected to be 273 mg kg−1 in Suillus collinitus. Also, Tricholoma terreum (69.52 mg kg−1), Myxomphalia maura (36.52 mg kg−1), Otidea concinna (30.70 mg kg−1), Sepultaria arenosa (28.94 mg kg−1), Melanoleuca paedida (28.33 mg kg−1), and Lycoperdon lividum (28.31 mg kg−1) relatively have high levels of boron and these species are proposed as candidates for boron accumulation. The boron contents of the other mushrooms varied and a pattern was observed where the boron content was found to be decreased as the distance from the mines increased.  相似文献

Five brands of antidiabetic herbal formulations as tablets, Diabetex, Divya Madhu Nashini, Jambrushila, Diabeticin, and Madhumeh Nashini, from different pharmacies were analyzed for six minor (Na, K, Ca, Cl, Mg, and P) and 20 trace (As, Ba, Br, Ce, Co, Cr, Cs, Cu, Fe, Hg, La, Mn, Rb, Sb, Sc, Se, Sm, Th, V, and Zn) elements by thermal neutron irradiation followed by high-resolution gamma ray spectrometry. Further Ni, Cd, and Pb were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Most elements vary in a narrow range by a factor of 2–4 while a few others vary in a wide range, e.g., Na (0.05–0.67 mg/g), Mn (26.7–250 μg/g), and V (0.26–2.50 μg/g). All the five brands contain K, Cl, Mg, P, and Ca as minor constituents along with mean trace amounts of Cr (2.11 ± 0.67 μg/g), Cu (15.7 ± 7.11 μg/g), Fe (459 ± 171 μg/g), Mn (143 ± 23 μg/g), Se (238 ± 112 ng/g), and V (0.99 ± 0.93 μg/g). Jambrushila is enriched in Na, Ca, Mg, Cl, Fe, Cu, Se, and Zn, essential nutrients responsible for curing diabetes. Dietary intake of Mn, Fe, and Cu are greater than 10% of the recommended dietary allowance, whereas that for Zn and Se is less than 2%. Mean contents of toxic elements (As, Cd, Hg, and Pb) were found below permissible limits except in Jambrushila. Cr and Zn were inversely correlated with r = −0.81, whereas Rb and Cs exhibit linear correlation (r = 0.93) in five brands. C, H, N analysis showed C ∼ 55%, H ∼ 12%, and N ∼ 2% with a total of ∼70% organic matter. However, thermal decomposition studies at 700°C suggest less than 5% nonvolatile metal oxides. Herbal formulations contain minor and trace elements in bioavailable forms that favorably influence glucose tolerance and possibly increase the body’s ability to ameliorate development of diabetes.  相似文献

Somatic embryogenesis and whole plant regeneration was achieved in callus cultures derived from immature zygotic embryos of Prosopis laevigata (Humb. & Bonpl. ex Willd.) M.C. Johnst., recently identified as chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb) and nickel (Ni) accumulator. Embryogenic calli were induced on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium added with a mixture of organic components plus N-6 benzyladenine (BA) (6.62 μM) and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) (2.26 μM) or thidiazuron (4.54–9.08 μM) and indole-3-acetic acid (1.42 μM). Embryogenic calli transferred onto half-strength MS medium without plant growth regulators developed globular embryos, of which 20% matured when treated with 3.75% (w/v) polyethylene glycol (PEG), and of these 50% fully differentiated into plantlet embryo. Regenerated plants were successfully acclimatized (90%), while in vitro seedlings transferred to MS medium containing 0.5 mM Cd, Cr, Ni or Pb, exhibited high heavy metals accumulation (627 mg Cr kg−1, 5,688 mg Cd kg−1, 1,148 mg Ni kg−1, and 3,037 mg Pb kg−1 dry weight) and efficient roots to shoots translocation (42–73%).  相似文献

Wild barley (Hordeum spontaneum), the progenitor of cultivated barley, is an important genetic resource for cereal improvement. Selenium (Se) is an essential trace mineral for humans and animals with antioxidant, anticancer, antiarthropathy, and antiviral effects. In the current study, the grain Se concentration (GSeC) of 92 H. spontaneum genotypes collected from nine populations representing different habitats in Israel was investigated in the central area of Guizhou Province, China. Remarkable variations in GSeC were found between and within populations, ranging from 0 to 0.387 mg kg−1 among the 92 genotypes with an average of 0.047 mg kg−1. Genotype 20_C from the Sede Boqer population had the highest GSeC, while genotype 25_1 from the Atlit population had the lowest. The mean value of GSeC in each population varied from 0.010 to 0.105 mg kg−1. The coefficient of variation for each population ranged from 12% to 163%. Significant correlations were found between GSeC and 12 ecogeographical factors out of 14 studied. Habitat soil type also significantly affected GSeC. The wild barley exhibited wider GSeC ranges and greater diversity than its cultivated counterparts. The higher Se grain concentrations found in H. spontaneum populations suggest that wild barley germplasm confer higher abilities for Se uptake and accumulation, which can be used for genetic studies of barley nutritional value and for further improvement of domesticated cereals.  相似文献

We investigated if the plant growth promoting fungus Trichoderma harzianum Rifai 1295-22 (also known as “T22”) could be used to enhance the establishment and growth of crack willow (Salix fragilis) in a soil containing no organic or metal pollutants and in a metal-contaminated soil by comparing this fungus with noninoculated controls and an ectomycorrhizal formulation commercially used to enhance the establishment of tree saplings. Crack willow saplings were grown in a temperature-controlled growth room over a period of 5 weeks’ in a garden center topsoil and over 12 weeks in a soil which had been used for disposal of building materials and sewage sludge containing elevated levels of heavy metals including cadmium (30 mg kg−1), lead (350 mg kg−1), manganese (210 mg kg−1), nickel (210 mg kg−1), and zinc (1,100 mg kg−1). After 5 weeks’ growth in clean soil, saplings grown with T. harzianum T22 produced shoots and roots that were 40% longer than those of the controls and shoots that were 20% longer than those of saplings grown with ectomycorrhiza (ECM). T. harzianum T22 saplings produced more than double the dry biomass of controls and more than 50% extra biomass than the ECM-treated saplings. After 12 weeks’ growth, saplings grown with T. harzianum T22 in the metal-contaminated soil produced 39% more dry weight biomass and were 16% taller than the noninoculated controls. This is the first report of tree growth stimulation by application of Trichoderma to roots, and is especially important as willow is a major source of wood fuel in the quest for renewable energy. These results also suggest willow trees inoculated with T. harzianum T22 could be used to increase the rate of revegetation and phytostabilization of metal-contaminated sites, a property of the fungus never previously demonstrated.  相似文献

Effects of selenium (Se) on growth and some physiological traits of roots in wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv Han NO.7086) seedlings exposed to enhanced ultraviolet-B (UV-B) stress are reported. Responses of roots were different depending on the Se concentration. Compared with the control, root weight of wheat seedlings treated with 1.0 and 2.0 mg Se kg−1 soil increased by 39.47% and 16.28%, respectively. The lower amount Se (0.5 mg kg−1) and the higher amount Se treatments (3.0 mg kg−1) did not significantly affect on root weight. Se treatments significantly increased root activity, flavonoids and proline content, and activities of peroxidase and superoxide dimutase in wheat roots exposed to enhanced UV-B. In addition, the treatments with 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 mg Se kg−1 significantly reduced malondialdehyde content and the rate of superoxide radical (O2) production of roots, whereas the higher amount Se treatment only induced a decrease in the rate of O2 production. The results of this study demonstrated that optimal Se supply promoted roots growth of wheat seedlings, and that optimal Se supply could reduce oxidative stress in wheat roots under enhanced UV-B radiation.  相似文献

Critical levels of selenium in raya (Brassica juncea Czern L.), maize (Zea mays L.), wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and rice (Oryza sativa L.) were worked out by growing these crops in an alkaline silty loam soil treated with different levels of selenite-Se ranging from 1 to 25 μg g−1 soil. Significant decrease in dry matter yield was observed above a level of 5 μg Se g−1 soil in raya and maize; 4 μg Se g−1 soil in wheat and 10 μg Se g−1 soil in rice shoots. The critical level of Se in plants above which significant decrease in yield would occur was found to be 104.8 μg g−1 in raya, 76.9 μg g−1 in maize, 41.5 μg g−1 in rice and 18.9 μg g−1 in wheat shoots. Significant coefficients of correlation were observed between Se content above the critical level and dry matter yield of raya as well as rice (r = −0.99, P ≤ 0.01), wheat (r = −0.97, P ≤ 0.01) and maize ((r = −0.96, P ≤ 0.01). A synergistic relationship was observed between S and Se content of raya (r = 0.96, P ≤ 0.01), wheat (r = 0.89, P ≤ 0.01), rice (r = 0.85, P ≤ 0.01) and maize (r = 0.84, P ≤ 0.01). Raya, maize and rice absorbed Se in levels toxic for animal consumption (i.e. > 5 mg Se kg−1) when the soil was treated with more than 1.5 μg Se g−1. In case of wheat, application of Se more than 3 μg g−1 soil resulted in production of toxic plants.  相似文献

An ecotype of brake fern (Pteris vittata) was assessed for arsenic tolerance and accumulation in its biomass under in vivo and in vitro condition; using soil, and agar-gelled Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with different concentrations of arsenic. The plants were raised in soil amended with 100–1000 mg arsenic kg−1 soil, and MS medium was supplemented with 10–300 mg arsenic 1−1 medium using Na2HAsO4 · 7H2O. The spores and haploid gametophytic-prothalli were raised in vitro on MS medium supplemented with arsenic. The field plants showed normal growth and biomass formation in arsenic amended soil, and accumulated 1908–4700 mg arsenic kg−1 dry aerial biomass after 10 weeks of growth. Arsenic toxicity was observed above >200 mg arsenic kg−1 soil. The concentrations of arsenic accumulated in the plant biomass were statistically significant (p < 0.05). Normal plants were developed from spores and gametophyte prothalli on the MS media supplemented with 50–200 mg arsenic 1−1 medium. The in vitro raised plants were tolerant to 300 mg arsenic kg−1 of soil and accumulated up to 3232 mg arsenic kg−1 dry aerial biomass that showed better growth performance, biomass generation and arsenic accumulation in comparison to the field plants. A survey of mercury (Hg) and selenium (Se) contents was performed in fish collected from lakes located in two National Parks of the northern patagonian Andean range. Two native species, catfish (Diplomystes viedmensis) and creole perch (Percichthys trucha), and three introduced species, brown trout (Salmo trutta), rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), and brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis), were caught from lakes Nahuel Huapi, Moreno, Traful, Espejo Chico, and Guillelmo belonging to Nahuel Huapi National Park and from lakes Futalaufquen and Rivadavia, Los Alerces National Park. In lake Moreno, fish diet items were analyzed and rainbow trout grown in a farm. Hg and Se were measured in muscle and liver tissues by instrumental neutron activation analysis. The average concentrations in muscle of Hg for all species, ages, and lakes are between 0.4 to 1.0 μg g−1 dry weight (DW) with a few fish, mainly native, exceeding the United States Environmental Protection Agency health advisory for freshwater fish limited consumption, and from 0.8 to 1.5 μg g−1 DW for Se. Average concentrations in liver of Hg in all species range from 0.4 to 0.9 μg g−1 DW. Brown trout, the top predator in these lakes, showed the lowest average Hg burden in both tissues. Se concentrations in the liver of brown and rainbow trout, up to 279 μg g−1 DW, are higher than those expected for nearly pristine lakes, exceeding 20 μg g−1 DW, the threshold concentration associated with Se toxicity. These species show lower Hg contents in muscle, suggesting a possible detoxification of Hg by a Se-rich diet. Creole perch and velvet catfish livers have lower Se concentrations, with a narrower span of values (2.3 to 8.5 μg g−1 and 3.3 to 5.5 μg g−1 DW respectively).  相似文献

The degradation of mixtures of pentachlorophenol (PCP) and p-nitrophenol (PNP) were evaluated in pure cultures of Sphingomonas sp. UG30, statically incubated soils (60% water-holding capacity) and soil perfusion bioreactors where encapsulated cells of UG30 were used as a soil inoculant. In pure-culture studies, conditions were optimized for mineralization of PCP and PNP mixtures at concentrations of 30 mg l−1 each. Optimum in vitro mineralization of PCP and PNP mixtures by UG30 was facilitated using ammonium phosphate as a nitrogen source, while inhibition was observed with ammonium nitrate. The bioreactor system used columns containing soil treated with mixtures of 100, 225 or 500 mg kg−1 of PCP and PNP. Rapid dissipation of both substrates was observed at the 100 mg kg−1 level. Inoculation with UG30 enhanced PCP degradation at the 100 mg kg−1 level in bioreactors but not in static soil microcosms. At higher PCP and PNP concentrations (225 mg kg−1), occasional complete degradation of PNP was observed, and PCP degradation was about 80% compared to about 25% in statically incubated soils after 20 days at 22°C. There was no additional degradation of the PCP and PNP mixtures attributable to inoculation with encapsulated cells of UG30 in either soil system at concentrations of 225 or 500 mg kg−1. Four bacterial isolates were examined for their ability to increase the availability of water soluble Cu, Cr, Pb and Zn in soils and for their effect on metals uptake by Zea mays and Sorghum bicolor. Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis was used to show that the bacterial cultures were genetically diverse. Bacterial isolates S3, S28, S22 and S29 had 16S rRNA gene sequences that were most similar to Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus pumilus, Pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes and Brevibacterium halotolerans based on 100% similarity in their 16S rDNA gene sequence, respectively. Filtrate liquid media that had supported B. pumilus and B. subtilis growth significantly increased Cr and Cu extraction from soil polluted with tannery effluent and from Cu-rich soil, respectively, compared to axenic media. The highest concentrations of Pb (0.2 g kg−1), Zn (4 g kg−1) and Cu (2 g kg−1) were accumulated in shoots of Z. mays grown on Cu-rich soil inoculated with Br. halotolerans. The highest concentration of Cr (5 g kg−1) was accumulated in S. bicolor roots grown in tannery-effluent-polluted soil inoculated with a mixed inoculum of bacterial strains. These results show that bacteria play an important role in increasing metal availability in soil, thus enhancing Cr, Pb, Zn and Cu accumulation by Z. mays and S. bicolor.  相似文献

Glasshouse experiments were conducted to evaluate the influence of L-methionine (L-MET) and L-ethionine (L-ETH) added to soil on the growth of corn (Zea mays L.) and tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum), respectively. The application of L-MET and L-ETH stimulated C2H4 production in soil by 299- and 313-fold, respectively, over an unamended control. An L-MET treatment of 1.85 mg kg−1 soil was the most effective in increasing shoot height, shoot fresh weight, internodal distance, and stem diameter in two corn cultivars, Kandy Korn and Miracle, while shoot and root dry weights, leaf width, uppermost leaf collar base distance and resistance to stem breaking were increased in the case of Kandy Korn only. A significant epinastic response was observed in the second and third leaves of tomato plants when soil was treated with L-ETH. An L-ETH treatment of 0.2 mg kg−1 soil resulted in the maximum fresh fruit yield, while 0.02 and 2.0 mg kg−1 gave the most fruit and greater average weight of fresh fruit, respectively. Concentrations ranging from 0.002 to 2.0 mg L-ETH kg−1 soil initiated early fruit formation. Early fruit ripening was observed with an application rate of 20 mg L-ETH kg−1 soil. The mechanism of action of these chemicals could either be attributed to i) substrate-dependent C2H4 production in soil by the indigenous microflora, ii) uptake directly by plant roots followed by metabolism within the tissues, and/or iii) a change in the balance of rhizosphere microflora affecting plant growth.  相似文献

We report the distribution of major and trace element concentrations in epipelagic zooplankton collected in the Northern Gulf of California in August 2003. The Bray–Curtis index defined three element assemblages in zooplankton: (1) major metals, which included only two elements, Na (3.6–17.0%) and Ca (1.0–4.8%). Na had its highest concentrations in the shallow tidally mixed Upper Gulf, where high salinity, temperature, and zooplankton biomass (dominated by copepods) prevailed. Ca showed its highest concentrations south of Ballenas Channel, characterized by tidal mixing and convergence-induced upwelling, indicated by low sea-surface temperature, salinity, and zooplankton biomass; (2) Six biological essential elements, like Fe (80–9,100 mg kg−1) and Zn (20–2,570 mg kg−1), were detected in high concentrations in zooplankton collected near Guaymas Basin, which had high surface temperature and chlorophyll a concentrations. (3) Metals of terrigenous origin, such as Sc (0.01–1.4 mg kg−1) and Th (0.03–2.3 mg kg−1), and redox-sensitive metals, like Co (3–23.8 mg kg−1); this was the assemblage with the largest number of elements (15). Both types of elements of assemblage 3 had maximum concentrations in the cyclonic eddy that dominates the summer circulation in the Northern region. We concluded that sediment resuspension by tidal mixing in the Upper Gulf, upwelling south of Ballenas Channel, and the cyclonic eddy were key oceanographic features that affected the element concentrations of epipelagic zooplankton in the Northern Gulf of California. Oceanographic mechanisms such as these may contribute to element incorporation in marine organisms in other seas.  相似文献

Sandy clay loam soil was contaminated with 5000 mg kg−1 diesel, and amended with nitrogen (15.98 atom% 15N) at 0, 250, 500, and 1000 mg kg−1 to determine gross rates of nitrogen transformations during diesel biodegradation at varying soil water potentials. The observed water potential values were −0.20, −0.47, −0.85, and −1.50 MPa in the 0, 250, 500, and 1000 mg kg−1 nitrogen treatments respectively. Highest microbial respiration occurred in the lowest nitrogen treatment suggesting an inhibitory osmotic effect from higher rates of nitrogen application. Microbial respiration rates of 185, 169, 131, and 116 mg O2 kg−1 soil day−1 were observed in the 250, 500, control and 1000 mg kg−1 nitrogen treatments, respectively. Gross nitrification was inversely related to water potential with rates of 0.2, 0.04, and 0.004 mg N kg−1 soil day−1 in the 250, 500, and 1000 mg kg−1 nitrogen treatments, respectively. Reduction in water potential did not inhibit gross nitrogen immobilization or mineralization, with respective immobilization rates of 2.2, 1.8, and 1.8 mg N kg−1 soil day−1, and mineralization rates of 0.5, 0.3, and 0.3 mg N kg−1 soil day−1 in the 1000, 500, and 250 mg kg−1 nitrogen treatments, respectively. Based on nitrogen transformation rates, the duration of fertilizer contribution to the inorganic nitrogen pool was estimated at 0.9, 1.9, and 3.2 years in the 250, 500, and 1000 mg kg−1 nitrogen treatments, respectively. The estimation was conservative as ammonium fixation, gross nitrogen immobilization, and nitrification were considered losses of fertilizer with only gross mineralization of organic nitrogen contributing to the most active portion of the nitrogen pool.  相似文献

Effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (Glomus mosseae) on the accumulation and speciation of selenium (Se) in alfalfa, maize, and soybean were investigated by using Se(IV)-spiked soil. Mycorrhizal inoculation decreased Se accumulation in roots and shoots of all the plants at Se spiked level of 0 or 2 mg kg−1, while an increased Se accumulation was observed in alfalfa shoots and maize roots and shoots at the spiked level of 20 mg kg−1. Concentration of inorganic Se (especially Se(VI)) in roots and shoots of the three plants was much higher in mycorrhizal than non-mycorrhizal treatment. Mycorrhizal inoculation decreased the portion of total organic Se in plant tissues with the exception of alfalfa and maize shoots at Se spiked level of 20 mg kg−1, in which organic Se portion did not reduced greatly (<5%) for mycorrhizal treatment. Mycorrhizal effects on alfalfa and maize were more obvious than on soybean in terms of root colonization rate, biomass, and Se accumulation.  相似文献
