本文研究了摇蚊幼虫对底泥中氮、磷释放的影响,初步探讨了摇蚊在湖泊富营养化过程中的生态作用。结果表明,摇蚊幼虫能明显促进底泥中氮、磷的释放,而释放到水层中的氮、磷又容易被藻类吸收利用,从而促进藻类生长。这种生态效应与水体营养循环和富营养化的发生及发展过程间存在着重要的关系。  相似文献

Sediment-water systems of Lake Balaton mud and tap water were constructed in plexiglass tubes and boxes for evaluation of changes in the nitrogen and phosphorus contents of overlying water as influenced by chironomid density and light conditions. Nitrogen flux from sediment was greatly influenced by denitrification process. The amount of TN released by chironomids amounted to about half of the yearly nitrogen fixation rate in Lake Balaton. Omnivorous chironomids increased the phosphorus content of the overlying water. The rate of release was density dependent. TP release rates ranged between 1–17 mg m−2 day −1 over a range of densities 500–20,000 larvae m−2. It became evident that aerobic sediment cores can be an important nutrient source in lakes where chironomids inhabit them at densities above 1,000 larvae m−2.  相似文献

Experiments were designed to examine the effects of various temperature challenges on oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion rates and protein utilization in juvenile Atlantic salmon Salmo salar . Fish acclimated to 15° C were acutely and abruptly exposed to either 20 or 25° C for a period of 3 h. To simulate a more environmentally relevant temperature challenge, a third group of fish was exposed to a gradual increase in temperature from 15 to 20° C over a period of 3 h ( c. 1·7° C h−1). Oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion rates were monitored before, during and after the temperature shift. From the ammonia excretion and oxygen consumption rates, protein utilization rates were calculated. Acute temperature changes (15–20° C or 15–25° C) caused large and immediate increases in the oxygen consumption rates. When the temperature was gradually changed ( i.e. 1·7° C h−1), however, the rates of oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion were only marginally altered. When fish were exposed to warmer temperatures ( i.e. 15–20° C or 15–25° C) protein use generally remained at pre-exposure (15° C) levels. A rapid transfer back to 15° C (20–15° C or 25–15° C) generally increased protein use in S. salar . These results indicate that both the magnitude and the rate of temperature change are important in describing the physiological response in juvenile salmonids.  相似文献

4th instar Chironomus plumosus larvae (about 1000·m–2) were added to tubes containing sediment and overlying water. At a temperature of 20°C the larvae greatly increased the trasnport of silica, phosphorus and iron from the sediment to the water. Oxygen concentrations did not influence the exchange of silica. For two non-calcareous sediments the exchange of phosphorus and iron was much higher under anaerobic than under aerobic conditions while the difference was small for sediment from a hardwater lake. Exchange of inorganic nitrogen was little influenced by added chironomid larvae.  相似文献

SUMMARY. 1. The exchange of phosphorus between the epilimnetic (shallow zone) sediment and water column in Lough Ennell was investigated in laboratory experiments using five intact cores.
2. Variations in water mixing, sediment suspension and aerobic–anaerobic oxygen status in the water column and its effects on sediment phosphorus release rates were determined.
3. Experimental results indicated that phosphorus release is possible under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Aerobic release (0.025 mg P l−1 over 5 days) was possible up to the point when mass resuspension of sediment occurred. Anaerobic release for the same period and mixing conditions was 0.183 mg Pl−1.
4. The release rate under aerobic conditions at 10°C equates to an internal areal loading of 0.134 g P m−2 yr−1, which is approximately 17% and 30% of the average total phosphorus and orthophosphate loadings respectively for the period 1974–79.
5. The results clearly implicate aerobic inorganic phosphorus release from the epilimnetic sediments as a significant source of this nutrient to the overlying water column and is likely a major factor in the continuing eutrophic status in the lake.  相似文献

Invasive species may impact biotic community structure, ecosystem processes, and associated goods and services. Their impact may be especially strong when they also serve as ecosystem engineers (i.e. organisms affecting the physical habitat and resources for other species). Dreissenid mussels fill both these roles, having invaded the Laurentian Great Lakes in the late 1980s, and also serve as ecosystem engineers by altering nutrient fluxes and influencing the microbial food web through direct nutrient release and excretion of feces and pseudo‐feces at the water–sediment interface. We conducted laboratory experiments to investigate how the different functional traits of invasive quagga mussels (filtering activity and direct nutrient release) and native chironomid larvae (tube building and bioirrigation) interact with lake sediment of differing organic matter content to influence biogeochemical fluxes and water quality. Our results showed that sediment reworking and ventilation activities by chironomid larvae increased oxygen penetration in the sediment, affecting primarily pore water chemistry, whereas invasive mussels enhanced nutrient releases in the surface water. However, sediment organic matter modulated the effects of ecosystem engineers on system‐level processes; chironomids had a greater influence on sediment reworking and microbial‐mediated processes in organic‐rich sediments, whereas quagga mussels enhanced nutrient concentrations in the overlying water of organic‐poor sediments. These results have management implications, as the effects of invasive mussels on the biogeochemical functioning in the Great Lakes region and elsewhere can alter system bioenergetics and promote harmful algal blooms.  相似文献

1. The specific respiration rate of 13 chironomid taxa and Chaoborus were measured to test the hypothesis of the relation between a species' ability to regulate their oxygen uptake and their distributional patterns among nine study lakes in British Columbia, Canada.
2. Respiration patterns of individual taxa were modelled using piecewise linear regression with break point and simple hyperbolic functions. Three types of respiration curves were identified: (i) classical oxy-conformers (e.g. littoral Cricotopus ) which cannot sustain a sufficient oxygen uptake with decreasing oxygen availability; (ii) oxy-regulators (e.g. profundal Chironomus ) which can regulate and maintain a constant respiration until a certain critical point and (iii) oxy-stressors ( Micropsectra ) which increase their respiration rate with decreasing oxygen availability until a critical point.
3. Respiration was measured at two different temperatures (10 and 20 °C), and over the range of oxygen saturation conditions studied here (0–90%) mean Q 10 values varied from 1.3 to 2.5.
4. The results show that different chironomid taxa have varying sensitivity to low oxygen concentrations and different respiratory responses to increased temperature. The critical point increased to higher oxygen saturation for six taxa, decreased for one taxon and was unchanged for two taxa.
5. The results illustrate one of the possible biological mechanisms behind the use of chironomids as temperature and climate indicators in palaeoecological studies by exploring the link between temperature and respiration physiology.  相似文献

Underyearling Lake Inari Arctic charr Salvelinus alpinus were acclimated to 11·0) C for 3 weeks, and then one group was maintained at 11·0) C and others were exposed to 14·4) Cconst, 17·7) Cconst or a diel fluctuating temperature of 14·3° C ± 1° C (14·3° Cfluc). Routine rates of oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion were measured over 10 days before the temperature change and over 31 days following the change. Measurements were made on fish that were feeding and growing. The temperature increase produced an immediate increase in oxygen consumption. There was then a decline over the next few days, suggesting that thermal acclimation was rapid. For groups exposed to constant temperature there was an increase in oxygen consumption ( M accl, mg kg−1 h−1) with increasing temperature ( T ), the relationship being approximated by an exponential model: M accl= 46·53e0·086 T . At 14·3° Cfluc oxygen consumption declined during the 3–4 days following the temperature shift, but remained higher than at 14·4° Cconst. This indicates that small temperature fluctuations have some additional influences that increase metabolic rate. Ammonia excretion rates showed diel variations. Excretion was lower at 11° Cconst than at other temperatures, and increases in temperature had a significant effect on ammonia excretion rate. Fluctuating (14·3° Cfluc) temperature did not influence ammonia excretion relative to constant temperature (14·4° Cconst).  相似文献

We examined fossil chironomids (Diptera: Chironomidae) in the surface sediments of four maar lakes in western Alaska to determine chironomid distribution patterns with respect to within-lake gradients of water depth, LOI (loss-on-ignition), and bottom-water temperature. Linear and non-linear regressions were undertaken to test whether the within-lake distributions of fossil chironomids were uniform. Additionally, water depths where abrupt changes or breakpoints in the assemblages occur were identified using piecewise regression. Direct gradient analysis was then used to examine variation in the assemblages explained by the environmental data. For the shallowest lake, chironomid abundances of individual taxa and inferred temperatures varied little within the lake. For the three deep lakes, seven of the sixteen commonest fossil taxa varied significantly with water depth, although some lake-specific patterns were evident. Water depth was generally identified as the principal environmental variable in explaining variation in the assemblages, although sediment organic matter content and bottom-water temperature were also important. Abrupt changes in assemblages occurred at different water depths in each lake, and at only one lake did the breakpoint occur within the range of water depths defining the thermocline. Chironomid-inferred temperature trends from the lakes also showed depth-related patterns: the warmest inferred temperatures were generally from both the shallowest and deepest water depths, whereas intermediate depths yielded temperature inferences about 0.5 to 1.0°C cooler than the average within-lake value. Nevertheless, we conclude that these patterns had only a slight impact on temperature reconstructions relative to the prediction error of the model. 以扬州市典型城市内河河道为例研究了人工曝气、生态砖覆盖、生物填料覆盖、低位植物浮床(简称低位浮床)等原位生态处理技术对河道底泥污染释放及其对上覆水污染负荷贡献的治理效果.研究结果表明:经不同原位生态处理后,1)底泥中氨氮的释放速率下降50.3%-89.64%,平均为59.27%;底泥污染释放对上覆水氨氮负荷贡献量的去除率为36.59%-82.67%,平均为53.33%;2)底泥中总氮的释放速率下降20.96%-88.94%,平均为42.32%;底泥总氮释放对上覆水污染负荷贡献量的污染去除率为38.00%-67.06%,平均为54.96%;3)底泥中总磷的释放速率下降27.49%-91.00%,平均为55.31%;底泥总磷释放对上覆水总磷污染负荷贡献量的去除率为67.14%-98.46%,平均为84.33%;4)底泥中CODMn的释放速率下降11.84%-79.32%,平均为41.16%;底泥上覆水中CODMn的释放速率下降-1.25%--70.74%,平均为29.83%.研究还发现,原位生态处理技术在运行中对底泥污染治理的效果受该技术对底泥的扰动程度的影响,在进行集成应用的时候,对底泥扰动较大的技术应与对底泥扰动较小的技术相间应用,以减少工程技术运行中对底泥扰动造成的污染爆发式释放,达到更好的整体处理效果.  相似文献

城市河道受污染底泥对水体产生大的二次污染,为有效的控制底泥污染物的释放和开发有效的水体治理技术方法,本研究利用人工模拟河道在连续流条件下,对河道污染底泥的生物修复及其对水体生物修复的影响进行了试验研究。研究结果表明:采用曝气增氧和投加底泥生物修复制剂联合处理的方式能达到好的底泥生物修复效果,能有效的提高底泥的生物降解活性(G值),削减底泥氮磷污染物的释放量,底泥G值与底泥氮、磷污染物释放量呈显著负相关性:单独采用曝气增氧和投加土著微生物制剂联合实施的生物修复方法对河道污染水体均具有良好的修复效果,但底泥的生物修复将对河道水体生物修复的效果产生大的影响。底泥生物修复后,对水体进行生物修复的处理效果更加显著,在相同实验条件下,对水体COD、氨氮的最大去除率由65.0%和16.30%提高到72.0%和41.0%,水体生物修复的周期由13 d缩短为6 d。  相似文献

Small groups of juvenile Atlantic cod, Gadus morhua L., were kept at 14°C in through-flow tanks and were fed known quantities of a compounded diet of natural food. The cod were fed single and multiple meals with ration size in the range 0.5 to 4.1% of total wet fish body weight. Ammonia production in each feeding experiment was monitored continuously.
For single-meal experiments, significant relationships were derived between ration size and (a) total ammonia excreted, (b) total exogenous ammonia excreted above endogenous excretion levels, (c) duration of the elevated phase of ammonia excretion, (d) maximum rate of ammonia excretion, and (e) time delay after feeding to reach maximum rate of ammonia excretion. Relationships between nitrogen loss as ammonia and nitrogen intake were examined and estimates of endogenous excretion rate and maintenance ration made.
Repetitive feeding resulted in cyclical variation in ammonia excretion. At the lowest ration size, ammonia excretion rates had nearly returned to the pre-feeding level within 24 h. At higher feeding levels, the effect of each successive meal tended to be cumulative, resulting in increasingly higher ammonia excretion rates which only stabilized towards the end of the experiments.  相似文献

SUMMARY. The effect of temperature on gut-loading times, gut-clearing times, and the calculated ingestion rates, egestion rates, and consumption indices of the deposit-feeding burrowing mayfly, Hexagenia limbata , were investigated in laboratory experiments. Rates of movement of two natural sediments of differing colour through the digestive tract were monitored to quantify feeding intensity when ambient water temperatures approached 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25°C.
At each temperature, gut-loading times (GLT) and gut-clearing times (GCT) increased as nymph length increased. Mean GLT and GCT values decreased as temperature increased from 5 to 20°C but were longer at 25°C than at 20°C. Relationships between GLT, GCT, and length of nymphs and temperature were best described by multiple regression equations. No diel variation in gutclearing times was observed. Low water temperatures resulted in lower ingestion and egestion rates and consumption indices. At most temperatures nymphs ingested over 100% of their dry body weights per day.  相似文献

1. Generalized additive models (GAMs) were used to predict macroinvertebrate taxonomic richness and individual taxon diversity at the reach level across seven European glacier-fed river sites from a set of 11 environmental variables. Maximum water temperature and channel stability were found to explain the most deviance in these models.
2. Using this information, and data from other recent studies of glacier-fed rivers, a modified conceptual model based on Milner & Petts (1994) is presented which predicts the occurrence of macroinvertebrate families and subfamilies as determined by maximum water temperature ( T max) and channel stability. This deterministic model only applies to the summer meltwater period when abiotic variables drive community structure.
3. Where maximum water temperature is below 2 °C, Diamesinae chironomids are typically the sole inhabitants, but where T max >2 °C but <4 °C Orthocladiinae are found and, where channels are more stable, Tipulidae and Oligochaeta also occur. Above 4 °C Perlodidae, Taeniopterygidae, Baetidae, Simuliidae and Empididae can be expected to be part of the glacier-fed river community, particularly in Europe.
4. At other times of the year when environmental conditions ameloriate, glacial rivers support higher macroinvertebrate abundance and diversity, with a number of taxa present that are not found during the summer melt period.
5. Dispersal constraints influence macroinvertebrate assemblages of many glacier-fed rivers located on islands and in some alpine areas.  相似文献

通过采集北里湖不同季节的柱状芯样,在实验室静态模拟沉积物氨氮(NH+4-N)和可溶解性磷酸盐(PO3-4-P)的释放,同时研究了沉积物间隙水中NH+4-N及PO3-4-P的垂直分布特征.结果表明,沉积物间隙水NH+4-N随深度的增加有上升的趋势,PO3-4-P随深度的增加呈先升后降的趋势.氮、磷营养盐在沉积物—水界面均存在浓度梯度,表明存在自间隙水向上覆水扩散的趋势.沉积物NH+4-N在春季、夏季、秋季、冬季的释放速率分别为0.074 mg·m-2· d-1、0.340mg· m-2· d-1、0.087 mg· m-2· d-1、0.0004 mg·m-2·d-1,pO3-4-P的释放速率则分别为0.340 mg·m-2·d-1、0.518 mg·m-2·d-1、0.094 mg·m-2·d-1、-0.037 mg· m-2·d-1.不同采样点表现出明显的季节和空间差异性,释放速率表现为夏季>春季、秋季>冬季.根据静态模拟出的不同季节下内源氮、磷释放速率计算,全湖内源氮、磷营养盐的贡献分别为0.0037、0.0057t/a.该研究可为北里湖富营养化及内源污染的治理提供基础数据.  相似文献

SUMMARY. 1. Isolates of twelve planktonic desmid species were tested for their growth response in batch culture, using an apparatus that generates crossed gradients of temperature and light intensity.
2. Up to 15°C, growth was mainly temperature-limited. At higher temperatures, there was an increasing effect of light limitation. Optimal growth temperatures were in the range 25–30°C.
3. Highest specific growth rates varied from 0.28 to 1.34 day−1. Species with lowest growth rates originated from oligo-mesotrophic habitats, those with highest growth rates from eutrophic ones.
4. Ecophysiological aspects are discussed in some detail, as well as the significance of the experimental data for distributions in the field.  相似文献

SUMMARY. 1. The eggs of a planktonic, predatory water mile Piona exigua Viets were reared in the laboratory at constant temperatures ranging from 10°C to 280C. Egg development rates increased with increase in temperature.
2. Five models describing the effect of temperature on egg development times were fitted to the data.
3. The variances of the egg hatching times at each temperature differed widely, but these variances were not made more equal by In-transformation.
4. A simple power curve, fitted to the raw data, accounted for ≥.97% of the variation in the data. Two further models, both of which included a third parameter, provided a better fit at the temperature extremes.
5. Close examination of the patterns of variance at difference temperatures may provide information relating to the pattern of emergence of aquatic poikilotherms.

Abstract 1. Western tent caterpillars hatch in the early spring when temperatures are cool and variable. They compensate for sub-optimal air temperatures by basking in the sun.
2. Tent caterpillars have cyclic population dynamics and infection by nucleopolyhedrovirus (NPV) often occurs in populations at high density.
3. To determine whether climatic variation might influence viral infection, the environmental determinants of larval body temperature and the effects of temperature on growth and development rates and larval susceptibility to NPV were examined.
4. In the field, larval body temperature was determined by ambient temperature, irradiance, and larval stage. The relationship between larval body temperature and ambient temperature was curvilinear, a property consistent with, but not necessarily limited to, behaviourally thermoregulating organisms.
5. Larvae were reared at seven temperatures between 18 and 36 °C. Larval growth and development increased linearly with temperature to 30 °C, increased at a lower rate to 33 °C, then decreased to 36 °C. Pupal weights were highest for larvae reared between 27 and 30 °C.
6. The pathogenicity (LD50) of NPV was not influenced by temperature, but the time to death of infected larvae declined asymptotically as temperature increased.
7. Taking into account larval growth, the theoretical yield of the virus increased significantly between 18 and 21 °C then decreased slightly as temperatures increased to 36 °C.
8. Control and infected larvae showed no difference in temperature preference on a thermal gradient. The modes of temperature preference were similar to those for optimal growth and asymptotic body temperatures measured in the field on sunny days.

Arctic regions may be particularly sensitive to climate warming and, consequently, rates of carbon mineralization in warming marine sediment may also be affected. Using long-term (24 months) incubation experiments at 0°C, 10°C and 20°C, the temperature response of metabolic activity and community composition of sulfate-reducing bacteria were studied in the permanently cold sediment of north-western Svalbard (Arctic Ocean) and compared with a temperate habitat with seasonally varying temperature (German Bight, North Sea). Short-term 35S-sulfate tracer incubations in a temperature-gradient block (between −3.5°C and +40°C) were used to assess variations in sulfate reduction rates during the course of the experiment. Warming of arctic sediment resulted in a gradual increase of the temperature optima ( T opt) for sulfate reduction suggesting a positive selection of psychrotolerant/mesophilic sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB). However, high rates at in situ temperatures compared with maximum rates showed the predominance of psychrophilic SRB even at high incubation temperatures. Changing apparent activation energies ( E a) showed that increasing temperatures had an initial negative impact on sulfate reduction that was weaker after prolonged incubations, which could imply an acclimatization response rather than a selection process of the SRB community. The microbial community composition was analysed by targeting the 16S ribosomal RNA using catalysed reporter deposition fluorescence in situ hybridization (CARD-FISH). The results showed the decline of specific groups of SRB and confirmed a strong impact of increasing temperatures on the microbial community composition of arctic sediment. Conversely, in seasonally changing sediment sulfate reduction rates and sulfate-reducing bacterial abundance changed little in response to changing temperature.  相似文献
