The efficacy of the regular elicitation of the relaxation response in reducing surgical anxiety and pain in an ambulatory surgery setting was studied in a population of patients scheduled for the surgical removal of a skin cancer. Forty-nine patients with skin cancer were enrolled in the study immediately after being informed of the ned for surgery; 21 of these patients elicited the relaxation response 20 minutes per day until the day of surgery, 21 read for 20 minutes per day, and 7 were noncompliant and were excluded from the study. Contrary to expectations, neither group of patients showed any increase in anxiety immediately before or after surgery on either psychological or physiological measures. Thus, there were no differences between the two groups on any of the psychological or physiological measures of anxiety, nor were there any differences in pain perception. There were statistically significant subjective differences; the experimental patients stated that the relaxation-response technique had reduced their anxiety several days before surgery and reportedly experienced their highest levels of anxiety prior to entering the study, while the controls experienced their highest levels of anxiety during and after surgery. This suggests that (1) minor outpatient surgery does not lead to detectable increased anxiety levels on the day of surgery and (2) regular elicitation of the relaxation response can alter subjective reports of distress associated with surgery.  相似文献

Oxygen consumption is usually considered to be predictable and unalterable at a fixed work intensity. The relaxation response is hypothesized to be an integrated hypothalamic response which results in generalized decreased sympathetic nervous system activity. One physiologic manifestation of the relaxation response is decreased oxygen consumption. The possibility that the elicitation of the relaxation response could decrease oxygen consumption at a fixed work intensity was investigated. Oxygen consumption was decreased 4 percent (p less than 0.05) in eight subjects working at a fixed intensity when the relaxation response was simultaneously elicited.  相似文献

Forty normotensive subjects participated on a voluntary basis in a study designed to compare the effect of suggestions on blood pressure (BP). Two experimental groups received suggestions presumed to be specific in lowering or raising BP after simple relaxation (relaxation group) or hypnotic induction (hypnotic group). A control group was used to record the BP changes over time. The time variable was significant for both systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP). Induction procedures (hypnosis or relaxation) resulted in significant decreases in DBP in both experimental groups. In the control group there was a significant decrease in SBP. A specific suggestion to increase the BP resulted only in DBP increase in the hypnotic group. This group also gave an increase of both SBP and DBP over the entire experiment, whereas the relaxation group resulted in a significant decrease in SBP. There was no significant group variable, indicating no differences between the groups. Further research is needed to enable firm conclusions of the effect of suggestions on BP.  相似文献

This study examined the acute effects of relaxation training on salivary cortisol and salivary immunoglobulin A (sIgA). Members of age- and gender-matched undergraduate student pairs were randomly assigned to an experimental or control group. Forty-one experimental subjects were led through Abbreviated Progressive Relaxation Training (APRT) during a 1-h laboratory session; 14 control subjects merely sat quietly in the laboratory for an equal amount of time. All subjects provided pre- and post-intervention saliva samples and self-report data on state anxiety, perceived stress, and relaxation levels. Heart rate was also monitored immediately before and after APRT or quiet sitting. Results indicated that a brief relaxation exercise led to experimental subjects having significantly lower levels of post-intervention salivary cortisol (p = .036) and significantly higher levels of post-intervention sIgA concentration (p < .001) and secretion rate (p < .001) than control subjects. The data suggest that relaxation training may play a role in immunoenhancement.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to assess the central nervous system effects of the relaxation response (RR) in novice subjects using a controlled, within-subjects design and topographic EEG mapping as the dependent measure. Twenty subjects listened to a RR and control audiotape presented in a counterbalanced order while EEG was recorded from 14 scalp locations. TheRR condition produced greater (p<.0164) reductions in frontal EEG beta activity relative to the control condition. No significant differences were observed for any other frequency band or scalp region. These findings suggest that elicitation of the RR produces significant reductions in cortical activation in anterior brain regions in novice subjects.  相似文献

When basketball players play against each other in a game, better coordinated balance can give them a better advantage. This paper briefly introduces the coordination balance and core strength of basketball players. Twenty basketball varsity members were selected from Chengdu College of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China as subjects for the test. The athletes were randomly divided into a control group and an experimental group. The control group received regular strength training, and the experimental group received core strength training in addition to regular training. Both groups underwent isometric muscle strength test, coordination and balance test and shooting percentage test before and after training. The results demonstrated that muscle group strength increased in the control group after conventional training, but the experimental group showed more significant improvement in muscle group strength after additional core strength training; the experimental group had better coordination and balance ability after core strength training; the experimental group had a significantly higher shooting percentage after core strength training due to the improvement of coordination and balance ability.  相似文献

Stressful life events and negative mood have been associated with elevated blood glucose and poor self-care in individuals with diabetes. The purpose of this controlled study was to determine the effect of mood state, specifically depression, anxiety, and daily hassles on the outcome of biofeedback assisted relaxation in insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. Eighteen subjects completed the study, nine in biofeedback assisted relaxation and nine in the control group. There were no significant group differences in blood glucose between those receiving biofeedback assisted relaxation and the subjects continuing usual care. Five of the nine experimental subjects and one of the nine control subjects were identified as succeeders according to an arbitrary criterion. Treatment failures were more depressed, more anxious, and took longer to complete the protocol than succeeders. Statistically significant correlations were found between high scores on inventories measuring depression, anxiety, and hassles intensity and higher blood glucose levels and smaller changes in blood glucose as a result of treatment. It is suggested that mood has an important impact on the response to biofeedback assisted relaxation. Further research is necessary to determine whether assessment of anxiety and depression followed by appropriate treatment where necessary should precede biofeedback assisted relaxation in insulin dependent diabetes.  相似文献

Forty-five randomly assigned subjects served in either a relaxation control, an EMG plus thermal, or a thermal biofeedback group. All groups received the same relaxation manipulation. Experimental results demonstrated a significant drop in both diastolic and systolic blood pressure for the feedback treatment. Diastolic measures showed a somewhat greater decrease for the EMG plus thermal treatment condition. A learning effect was demonstrated both within and across the three experimental sessions. Given that the sample was normotensive, the 20% reduction in blood pressure was notable. The results support the idea that blood pressure biofeedback is not a necessary condition for reduction of arterial blood pressure.  相似文献

The effect of chronic salt treatment on systolic blood pressure and vascular adrenergic responsiveness was studied in rats. Vascular reactivity of aortic smooth muscle to potassium chloride and sodium nitrite was similar in both groups, indicating that salt treatment did not alter the regular contraction and relaxation process of the smooth muscle. Isoproterenol-induced relaxation was similar for both treated and control groups demonstrating that salt treatment had no effect on vascular beta-adrenergic responsiveness. However, when aortic smooth muscle was incubated with angiotensin II or norepinephrine, a significant increase in responsiveness was observed in the aortic smooth muscle of the salt-treated group compared to the control group. Collectively, these results suggest that salt, per se, does not affect systolic blood pressure or peripheral beta-adrenergic responsiveness, but does result in a significantly enhanced alpha-adrenergic responsiveness. The implication of these results for experimental hypertension are discussed.  相似文献

Because of the need for an atraumatic method to dilate the cervix when performing artificial abortion by suction curettage, cervical dilatation following vaginally administered PGF2alpha was studied. A 50 mg PGF2alpha vaginal suppository was administered to 40 (treated group) first trimester nulliparas 3 hours prior to progressive cervical dilatation from a 19 (circumference in mm) Pratt dilator to a 35 Pratt dialator. The smallest-sized dilator that met resistance was interpreted as being the amount of clinically significant cervical dilatation. The results were compared to 20 (control group) first trimester nulliparas who received no PGF2alpha studied in an identical manner. Independent of gestational age, treated patients were dilated significantly more than the control patients. When subjects of similar gestational age were compared, PGF2alpha treated subjects were more often dilated sufficiently to perform abortion (55%) by suction curettage than control group subjects (5%). Those PGF2alpha subjects needing further dilatation to accept an appropriate sized cannula for their gestational age needed less dilatation than did those subjects of similar gestational age in the control group. No serious complications of PGF2alpha per se were observed and the most frequent side effects, vomiting and diarrhea, did not appear severe enough to limit the clinical practicability of the method.  相似文献

歧义图的双稳态知觉是一种非常有趣的视觉现象,但对其机制还不十分清楚.采用"运动产生的结构"(structurefrom-motion)的歧义图和无歧义的对照图,我们研究了这一问题.被试者在报告对歧义图和无歧义图的知觉发生翻转时,其瞳孔都扩张,而且在翻转之后都达到峰值;与无歧义图条件下不同,在报告知觉翻转前,歧义图条件下的瞳孔要明显小于均值,而在瞳孔扩张达到峰值之后,瞳孔仍然明显大于均值.这些结果说明知觉翻转后的瞳孔扩张是一个表达被试知觉状态已改变的指标.而对歧义图和无歧义图刺激的瞳孔反射的差异,可能反映了由歧义图所产生知觉翻转的神经信号和知觉状态的内源性.另外,被试眼动扫视的方向会随着运动轴的变化呈现不同的扫视分布模式,但在歧义图与无歧义图之间分布模式是一致的,这不仅表明被试从歧义图中感知到了与无歧义图同样的信息,也表明瞳孔反射变化与双稳态知觉变化相关的结论具有可靠性.本文对歧义图双稳态知觉的视觉机制提供了新的认识.  相似文献

目的:探讨短期整体身心调节法练习者的全身皮肤电导反应特点。方法:采用单因素完全随机实验设计,将68名在校大学生分为整体身心调节组和放松组,分别进行为期10天的整体身心调节训练和经典的肌肉放松训练,并于训练前和训练结束后,测试两组学生身体7个分支的皮肤电导反应。结果:训练前,大学生前3支皮肤电导反应大于后4支;训练10天后,与训练前相比,整体身心调节动I练组第1、2支皮肤电导反应显著减小,7个分支的皮肤电导反应出现均衡的规律;放松训练组学生身体7个分支皮肤电导反应变化不显著。结论:短期整体身心调节法形成了全身皮肤电导反应的均衡,可能反映短期整体身心调节法的整体身心相互作用原理。  相似文献

Transient lower esophageal sphincter relaxations (tLESRs) are vagally mediated in response to gastric cardiac distension. Nine volunteers, eight gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) patients, and eight fundoplication patients were studied. Manometry with an assembly that included a barostat bag was done for 1 h with and 1 h without barostat distension to 8 mmHg. Recordings were scored for tLESRs and barostat bag volume. Fundoplication patients had fewer tLESRs (0.4 +/- 0.3/h) than either normal subjects (2.4 +/- 0.5/h) or GERD patients (2.0 +/- 0.3/h). The tLESRs rate increased significantly in normal subjects (5.8 +/- 0.9/h) and GERD patients (5.4 +/- 0.8/h) during distension but not in the fundoplication group. All groups exhibited similar gastric accommodation (change in volume/change in pressure) in response to distension. Fundoplication patients exhibit a lower tLESR rate at rest and a marked attenuation of the response to gastric distension compared with either controls or GERD patients. Gastric accommodation was not impaired with fundoplication. This suggests that the receptive field for triggering tLESRs is contained within a wider field for elicitation of gastric receptive relaxation and that only the first is affected by fundoplication.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE--To determine the long term effects of relaxation therapy on 24 hour ambulatory intra-arterial blood pressure in patients with mild untreated and uncomplicated hypertension. DESIGN--Four week screening period followed by randomisation to receive either relaxation therapy or non-specific counselling for one year. Ambulatory intra-arterial blood pressure was measured before and after treatment. SETTING--Outpatient clinic in Amsterdam''s university hospital. SUBJECTS--35 Subjects aged 20-60 who were being treated by general practitioners for hypertension but were referred to take part in the study. At three consecutive screening visits all subjects had a diastolic blood pressure without treatment of 95-110 mm Hg. Subjects were excluded if they had damaged target organs, secondary hypertension, diabetes mellitus, a cholesterol concentration greater than 8 mmol/l, or a history of malignant hypertension. INTERVENTIONS--The group allocated to relaxation therapy was trained for eight weeks (one hour a week) in muscle relaxation, yoga exercises, and stress management and continued exercising twice daily for one year with monthly visits to the clinic. The control group had the same attendance schedule but had no training and were requested just to sit and relax twice a day. All subjects were asked not to change their diet or physical activity. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE--Changes in ambulatory intra-arterial blood pressure after one year of relaxation therapy or non-specific counselling. RESULTS--Mean urinary sodium excretion, serum concentration of cholesterol, and body weight did not change in either group. Diastolic pressures measured by sphygmomanometry were 2 and 3 mm Hg lower in subjects in the relaxation group and control group respectively at the one year follow up compared with initial readings. The mean diastolic ambulatory intra-arterial pressure during the daytime had not changed after one year in either group, but small treatment effects could not be excluded: the mean change for the relaxation group was -1 mm Hg (95% confidence interval -6 to 3.9 mm Hg) and for the control group -0.4 mm Hg (-5.3 to 4.6 mm Hg). Mean ambulatory pressure in the evening also had not changed over the year, and in both groups nighttime pressure was 5 mm Hg higher. The variability in blood pressure was the same at both measurements. CONCLUSIONS--Relaxation therapy was an ineffective method of lowering 24 hour blood pressure, being no more beneficial than non-specific advice, support, and reassurance--themselves ineffective as a treatment for hypertension.  相似文献

本文用实验揭示了瞳孔对光动态反应具有采样控制特性。实验中采用各种不同时间间隔的双脉冲光,以开环的方式(Maxwellian View)刺激瞳孔,当双脉冲之间间隔较长时,瞳孔反应相当于对双脉冲光的两次脉冲分别产生瞬态收缩;当双脉冲时间间隔短于0.6s 时,其反应就成了一次瞬态收缩,与单个光脉冲所引起的瞳孔反应一样。同—受试者的多次实验结果相同,不同受试者所得结果也基本一致。故瞳孔对脉冲刺激光引起反应后,必须至少约隔0.6s 才能对另一次脉冲光产生反应,这就说明了瞳孔动态反应具有离散的采样控制特性。实验还进一步证明,瞳孔系统的控制机制是双重模式的控制:不同的刺激条件下,瞳孔反应可呈现为瞬态反应(AC)或持续反应(DC),瞬态反应的 AC 通道为离散的采样控制,持续反应的 DC 通道为连续控制。  相似文献

The role of the vascular endothelium in the contractile response of aortas from streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats was investigated using selected agents. Contractile response to KCl was not affected by removal of the endothelium in both diabetic and control groups, but was diminished in the diabetic rats compared to the control rats. Contractile response to clonidine markedly increased after removal of the endothelium in the control group, with the increment being less in the diabetic group. After removal of the endothelium, contractile response to clonidine was poorer in the diabetic group than the control group. Vascular relaxation induced by acetylcholine disappeared when the endothelium was removed in both diabetic and control groups. The degree of reaction to acetylcholine did not significantly differ between the two groups. These results suggest that in diabetic rats, abnormality of the endothelium-dependent vascular relaxation is specific for α2 receptor while that of the vascular smooth muscle reactivity is not receptor-specific.  相似文献

为了确定渐进性肌肉放松对急性心肌梗死患者焦虑情绪是否有缓解作用,本研究选取2016年4月至2019年4月期间在曲靖市第一人民医院心内科治疗的患者274例作为研究对象,随机分为对照组和观察组,每组137例,平均年龄(53.27±10.3)岁。对照组在治疗期间给予常规护理,而观察组在常规护理的基础上给予渐进性肌肉放松治疗。放松治疗每天2次,每次10组,一周4天,共治疗4周。分别于患者入院48 h和治疗后1个月对患者的血压、心率、并发症以及焦虑水平进行记录评估。研究显示,入院治疗1个月后,患者的血压、心率均有所下降,但无统计学差异;相较于对照组,观察组的并发症发病患者均明显下降(p<0.05);此外,患者入院时均有不同程度的焦虑情绪,经过一个月的治疗后患者的焦虑评分均明显下降,且在观察组中焦虑得分更显著低于对照组(p<0.05)。本实验在较大的临床样本中证实渐进性肌肉放松训练能明显降低患者的焦虑情绪并有助于降低患者并发症,能在治疗急性心肌梗死患者时提供较大帮助,为临床应用放松训练辅助治疗心肌梗死提供了较为可靠的实验证据,有重要的实用价值。  相似文献

Accurate discrimination of changes in physiological response has been noted as an important element in learning to control that response. Using a magnitude production procedure involving forearm isometric contractions, it was found that the ability to discriminate muscle tension varied across headache groups, with the no-headache control group (r=.76) being most accurate, followed by the tension group (r=.68), the mixed tension and migraine group (r=.60), and finally the migraine group (r=.51). The most important result, however, was that muscle discrimination ability significantly predicted clinical outcome from treatment by relaxation training for tension headache subjects (r=.50) but did not predict outcome for migraine or mixed headache subjects.This research was supported by a grant from NINCDS, NS-15235.  相似文献

This study investigated effects of EMG-assisted relaxation training on the academic performance, locus of control, and self-esteem of hyperactive junior high school-age boys. Twenty-four subjects each were randomly assigned to the treatment and control condition. Treatment consisted of six 20 to 25-minute sessions conducted biweekly. Pretreatment frontalis EMG, math, reading, and language performance, locus of control, and self-esteem were assessed for both groups. Outcome measures were again obtained on these dependent variables 2 weeks after the last treatment session. Experimental subjects demonstrated significantly higher posttreatment reading and language performance. Math performance gain did not reach statistical significance. A significant internal shift in locus of control was observed; however, self-esteem did not improve to that level. These outcomes correlated with significantly lower posttreatment frontalis EMG in the experimental group. EMG level did not change during the course of this study for control subjects. Implications of these findings are discussed in terms of existent research.  相似文献
