Toll-like receptors are recognized as redox sensitive receptor proteins and have been implicated in cellular response to oxidative stress. Altered pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance leads to an increased oxidative damage and consequently play an important role in breast diseases. The study was designed to access the oxidative stress status by quantification of byproducts generated during lipid peroxidation and inadequate trace elements during oxidative damage and its effects on the toll like receptor (TLR) activity in patients of breast diseases. Decreased levels of selenium, copper, zinc, magnesium and iron with elevated levels of malondialdehyde (marker of lipid peroxidation) were accompanied by decreased TLR activity in patients of benign breast diseases as well as breast carcinoma. A similar pattern was observed with the advancement of disease and its subsequent progression in breast carcinoma patients. Results of multinomial regression analysis suggest benign breast disease patients are at higher risk of developing breast cancer with high odds ratio of lipid damage. 相似文献

BackgroundTrace elements exhibit essential functions in many physiological processes. Thus, for research focusing on trace element homeostasis and metabolism analytical methods allowing for multi-element analyses are fundamental. Small sample amounts may be a big challenge in trace element analyses especially if also other end points want to be addressed in the same sample. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to examine trace elements (iron, copper, zinc, and selenium) in murine liver tissue prepared by a RIPA buffer-based lyses method.Methods and resultsAfter centrifugation, lysates and pellets were obtained and trace elements were analyzed with TXRF in liver lysates. The results were compared to that obtained by a standard microwave-assisted acidic digestion with subsequent ICP-MS/MS analysis of the same liver tissue, liver lysates, and remaining pellets. In addition, trace element concentrations, determined in murine serum with both methods, were compared. For serum samples, both TXRF and ICP-MS/MS provide similar and highly correlating results. Furthermore, in liver lysate samples prepared with RIPA buffer, comparable trace element concentrations were measured by TXRF as with the standard digestion technique and ICP-MS/MS. Only marginal amounts of trace elements were detected in the pellets.ConclusionTaken together, the results obtained by the present study indicate that the RIPA buffer-based method is suitable for sample preparation for trace element analyses via TXRF, at least for the here investigated murine liver samples. 相似文献

Summary Boron, copper, iron, manganese and zinc concentrations were measured in sunflower leaves from plants grown hydroponically
in a closed continuous flow system and with boron concentrations ranging from deficient to toxic.
Leaves were analyzed at the stage of flower development. There was a highly significant inverse correlation between B concentration
in solution and Mn concentration in leaves.
Cu, Fe and Zn concentrations in the leaves were not changed by the different B levels, although the B concentration in leaves

BackgroundZinc (Zn), copper (Cu), and selenium (Se) are involved in immune and antioxidant defense. Their role in systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) treatment and outcomes remains unclear. This systematic review aimed to describe trace element concentrations in different types of biological samples and their relationship with morbidity and mortality in patients with SIRS. Methods: Literature was systematically reviewed according to the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA). The search results were screened and evaluated for eligibility, and data were extracted and summarized in tables and figures. Results: Most of the 38 included studies evaluated Se (75%), followed by Zn (42%) and Cu (22%). Plasma was the main biological sample evaluated (58%). Thirteen studies found lower plasma/serum concentrations of Zn, Se, and Cu in SIRS patients than in controls upon admission, 11 studies on adults (intensive care unit-ICU) and two in pediatric ICU (PICU). Three ICU studies found no difference in erythrocyte trace element concentrations in patients with SIRS. In all studies, the two main outcomes investigated were organ failure and mortality. In seven ICU studies, patients with lower plasma or serum Zn/Se levels had higher mortality rates. A study conducted in the PICU reported an association between increased Se variation and lower 28-day mortality. In an ICU study, lower erythrocyte selenium levels were associated with higher ICU/hospital mortality, after adjustment. Five ICU studies associated lower plasma/serum Zn/Se levels with higher organ failure scores and one PICU study showed an association between higher erythrocyte Se levels and lower organ dysfunction scores. Conclusion: There was no difference in erythrocyte Se levels in patients with SIRS. Serum/Plasma Zn and serum/plasma/erythrocyte Se are associated with organ dysfunction, mortality, and inflammation. Trace element deficiencies should be diagnosed by erythrocyte, or complementary measurements in the presence of inflammation. 相似文献

The intestinal parasites are noted to be an important health problem in Turkey as similarly reported in the globe. The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in total content of essential elements, namely, zinc, iron, copper, cobalt, magnesium, and selenium, in children infected with intestinal parasites aged between 6 and 12 years inhabiting in Hatay Province, Turkey. These essential elements were measured in the children/patient who was positive for intestinal parasites, Giardia intestinalis and Enterobius vermicularis. Scores were obtained from the positive study group (SG), and their age matched the healthy children control group (CG). Serological levels of zinc, iron, copper, cobalt, magnesium, and selenium were analyzed by Varian Liberty Series II inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometer (ICP-AES). The mean magnesium concentrations were found to be statistically different at 95% confidence interval level between study groups. As a result of this study, selenium was found to be uncorrelated with all other elements examined; whereas, copper was observed to have statistically significant correlations with cobalt, magnesium, and zinc. In addition, cobalt-magnesium, cobalt-zinc, and magnesium-zinc metal pairs were found to have statistically significant correlations based on study findings. 相似文献

The study describes the concentrations of zinc, magnesium, copper, iron, and biochemical markers of seminal vesicle and prostate
in seminal plasma of different categories of infertile men. The zinc level in oligasthenospermic subjects was significantly
higher than in azoospermic, asthenospermic, and oligospermic subjects. The γ-glutamyl transpeptidase activity in both oligoasthenospermic
and azoospermic subjects were significantly lower than in asthenospermic and oligospermic individuals. There was no significant
difference in iron, copper, and magnesium levels and acid phosphatase activity among the different infertile categories. A
positive correlation between zinc and acid phosphatase (r=0.84, r=0.73; p<0.05), and between copper and fructose (r=0.81, r=0.72; p<0.05) was observed in oligoasthenospermic and azoospermic men, respectively. On the basis of our results, it may be postulated
that there is a direct effect of the trace elements zinc and copper on acid phosphatase and fructose, respectively, in oligoasthenospermic

A screen-house experiment with 0, 25, 50 and 75 ppm S was conducted to study the effect of S on the yield and, Mn, Cu, Fe and Mo concentrations of berseem (Trifolium alexandrinum) at three stages of growth in a normal and reclaimed soil. Higher levels of S decreased the yield in both the soils. Yield in normal soil was much higher than in reclaimed soil. Application of S increased Cu, Mn, and Fe concentrations in all cuts in both soils. Molybdenum concentration was lowered following S application in both the soils in all the cuts. Reactive oxygen species including hydroxyl radicals, superoxide anions and hydrogen peroxide which are produced by activated granulocytes play an essential role in many biochemical processes and diseases. Oxidant-mediated tissue damage may be important in the development of chronic sinusitis. The aim of this study was to investigate the serum levels of antioxidant vitamins and elements in 24 children (14 boys and 10 girls, age range: 7-12 years, mean age: 9.2 years) with chronic rhinosinusitis, compared to 20 age and sex matched healthy children. Blood samples were collected in the morning before breakfast and prior to any medication. Vitamin A, E and C levels were determined using reagent kits for high performance liquid chromatography. Cu, Zn and Mg levels were analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometry. Vitamin E, vitamin C, Cu and Zn levels were significantly lower in the patients group than in the control group. However, vitamin A and Mg levels did not differ. In conclusion, serum levels of antioxidant vitamins and elements may be important in the pathogenesis and treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis in children. 相似文献

Summary Soils derived from a number of different parent materials (lithologies) and developed along a climatic gradient, manifested by the altitudinal succession of natural vegetation zones (Mediterranean, sub-Mediterranean, Mountainous and Pseudoalpine), were sampled throughout mainland Greece.In soils derived from siliceous parent materials low in clay, acidity increase and percent base saturation decreases from the Mediterranean to the Pseudoalpine vegetation zones. Clay illuviation is found mainly in soils developed in the Mediterranean and the sub-Mediterranean zones. No such changes are apparent in clayey soils rich in bases.Organic matter content of the mineral portion of the soil profile increases by a factor of 2 with a decrease in mean annual air temperature of about 10°C. The pattern of change in clay and soil organic matter content with climate is in relatively good agreement with soil development trends in the area, when soil profiles are named according to the FAO-Unesco soil map of the world.Concentrations of Ca and Mg decrease and those of total N, total and extractable P, K, Fe, Mn and Zn increase from the Mediterranean to the Mountainous zone. Within the same zone, however, concentrations of N, Ca, K, Fe, Mn and Zn decrease, but those of Mg, total and extractable P increase with soil depth. The concentrations of most macro- and micronutrients in the humic horizon are several times higher than those in the mineral portion of the soil profile due to biological enrichment. 相似文献

Diets with a higher proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids (i.e., linoleic acid) have decreased iron absorption and utilization
compared with diets containing a higher proportion of the saturated fatty acid stearic acid (e.g., beef tallow). However,
less is known regarding the influence of other polyunsaturated or monounsaturated fatty acids, along with higher dietary iron,
on iron absorption and utilization. The present study was conducted to compare the effects of dietary fat sources known to
vary in (n-3), (n-6), and (n-9) fatty acids on iron utilization and liver mineral concentrations. Male weanling rats were
fed a diet containing 10, 35, or 100 μg/g iron in combination with saffower oil, flaxseed oil, olive oil, or beef tallow for
8 wk. Indicators of iron status, iron utilization, and liver iron concentrations were unaffected by an interaction between
the fat source and iron concentration. Plasma copper was the only variable affected by an interaction between the fat source
and dietary iron. Findings of this study demonstrate that flaxseed oil and olive oil may alter tissue minerals and affect
iron utilization. Further studies should be conducted to establish the effect of varying (n-3), (n-6), and (n-9) fatty acids
on trace mineral status and iron utilization.
