In the present study, we investigated the effects of reproductive status, size of follicles and plasma progesterone concentrations of mares at PRID insertion on the efficacy of the treatment, estrous cycle patterns, plasma concentrations of progesterone and LH. The progesterone-releasing device (PRID) was administered intravaginally to 28 Haflinger mares for 11 days at different reproductive stages: anestrus (n=6), estrus (n=11) and diestrus (n=11). Plasma concentrations of progesterone at insertion (Day 1) of PRID differed among treatment groups (anestrus: 0.2-0.6 ng mL(-1), estrus: 0.2-0.5 and diestrus: 1.6-10.8 ng mL(-1); P<0.001). Total secretion of progesterone (area under curve (AUC)) during treatment period revealed highest values in diestrus (38.2+/-3.1 ng mL(-1)h(-1)) followed by estrus (25.1+/-2.7) and anestrus (21.0+/-0.4 ng mL(-1)h(-1); P<0.05). Progesterone area under curve (AUC) was positively correlated with initial progesterone concentrations (R=0.5; P<0.05), but it did not correlate with the interval from PRID removal to ovulation. Plasma concentrations of LH during treatment period, were significantly lower in anestrous mares (184.6+/-28.6 ng mL(-1)h(-1)) when compared to estrous and diestrous mares (349.7+/-53.3 and 370.5+/-40.3 ng mL(-1)h(-1); P<0.05). Follicular size at PRID insertion had no effects on the intervals from PRID removal to subsequent estrus and ovulation. Follicle diameters at removal of PRID were significantly correlated with the interval from coil removal to estrus (R=-0.55, P<0.05) and ovulation (R=-0.72, P<0.0004) in cyclic mares. In anestrus 0 of 6 (0%) mares, in estrus 5 of 11 (45.5%) and in diestrus 6 of 11 (54.5%) mares ovulated within a defined interval of 1 day before to 1 day after mean interval from PRID removal to ovulation. In cyclic mares, response to treatment was significantly higher when compared to anestrous mares: almost all mares responded with estrus and ovulation independent from the stage of the estrous cycle at the start of treatment. However, accuracy of synchronization was still unsatisfactory. In cyclic mares, the plasma progesterone concentrations at insertion of PRID seem to be more important for the efficacy of the treatment than the assignment to estrous cycle stages.  相似文献

The effects of oxytocin on the biochemical pathways of glucose oxidation were investigated in the rat uterus. In the presence of oxytocin, glucose oxidation in uterine segments obtained from Sprague-Dawley rats at diestrus increased 1.5–2.0-fold above the basal rate. A half-maximal response was observed at about 3 nM oxytocin; the maximum response was equal to or greater than the response to 1.7 nM insulin. In stripped myometrial segments (denuded of the endometrial component), oxytocin stimulated glucose oxidation at estrus only; whereas in intact uterine segments, the stimulation of oxidation was observed at both estrus and diestrus. In contrast, stimulation of oxidation by carbachol in stripped myometrial segments was independent of the estrous state of the tissue. The ratio of [1-14C]glucose to [6-14C]glucose oxidation was measured to estimate the relative involvement of the pentose phosphate and the tricarboxylic acid pathways of metabolism. In myometrial tissue, stimulation of glucose oxidation by oxytocin appeared to proceed through the tricarboxylic acid cycle. In intact uterine segments, at diestrus, glucose oxidation involved largely the pentose phosphate pathway (suggesting increased glucose metabolism in endometrial tissue), whereas at estrus, in the intact tissue segments, oxytocin increased glucose oxidation largely via the tricarboxylic acid cycle, and appeared to do so predominantly in the myometrial tissue. Carbachol-stimulated glucose oxidation appeared to proceed mainly via the tricarboxylic cycle in the myometrial tissue, irrespective of the stage of the estrous cycle. In the uterus of the Brattleboro rat (either intact uterine segments or stripped myometrial strips), oxytocin stimulated glucose oxidation only at estrus, predominantly through the tricarboxylic acid cycle. These findings suggest that oxytocin, in addition to its known effect on the contractility of uterine and myoepithelial smooth muscle, may regulate glucose metabolism in both the myometrial and endometrial components of uterine tissue.  相似文献

Intrauterine pressure was measured in three cyclic and two postpartum mares. Pressure was recorded using a catheter tip pressure transducer. The transducer was passed transcervically into the uterus.. In cyclic mares recordings were started on Day 1 of estrus and continued daily until ovulation as well as on Days 1 and 8 of diestrus. In postpartum mares recordings were started within 48 h after foaling and continued until the mares ovulated. The intrauterine pressure changes in postpartum mares was also recorded on Days 1 and 8 of diestrus. Spontaneous uterine contractions were recorded in cyclic mares for 30 min and in postpartum mares for 10 min. Induced uterine motilities were recorded for 30 min in both groups after the administration of oxytocin (40 USP, i.v.). Total area under the contraction curve in a 10-min period was used as a uterine motility quantitating unit. All mares demonstrated uterine contractions during estrus and diestrus. All mares demonstrated significant responses to oxytocin during estrus and diestrus. It appears that estrogen priming is not necessary for a significant uterine response to oxytocin.  相似文献

An immunoperoxidase staining technique was used to localize receptors for progesterone and estrogen in the uterus of the mare. Specific staining for receptors was limited to cell nuclei. During estrus, stromal cells tended to stain more intensely for both receptor types than myometrial cells or luminal and glandular epithelial cells. During diestrus, staining intensities in stromal and myometrial cells tended to decrease. Staining intensities of epithelial cells were not affected by the cycle stage. Early pregnancy did not markedly affect the staining intensities of pregnant mares compared with the nonpregnant mares on Day 14 of diestrus. In mares susceptible to endometritis from which samples were taken during diestrus, stromal and myometrial staining for estrogen receptors was more intense than in endometrium from genitally-normal mares.  相似文献

In the horse mare, the onset of parturition is associated with an increase in oxytocin secretion, and it has been suggested that the onset of parturition may be triggered by endogenous oxytocin release. To test the hypothesis that oxytocin secretion is regulated by endogenous opioids in the periparturient period, we have 1) characterized oxytocin secretion in response to vaginocervical stimulation and 2) determined the effect of naloxone, an opioid antagonist, on oxytocin secretion induced by vaginocervical stimulation in prepartum mares and in postpartum mares at estrus and diestrus. During the last 2 months of pregnancy, the first diestrus and subsequent estrus post partum, a total of 66 vaginocervical stimulations were performed. Mares were pretreated with naloxone (0.5 mg/kg i.v.) or saline, administered 20 min before vaginocervical stimulation on subsequent days, using a randomized switchback design in which mares served as their own controls. Plasma was collected from 30 min before until 30 min after stimulation and was analyzed for oxytocin concentrations. Vaginocervical stimulation resulted in a significant increase in oxytocin secretion in all mares. Between Days 30 and 20 prepartum, the total amount of oxytocin secreted (calculated as area under the curve for 0 to 10 min after vaginocervical stimulation) was significantly greater in naloxone-treated than in saline-treated mares. From Day 20 prepartum until parturition, the differences between naloxone and saline-treated mares tended to decrease with approaching parturition, and were no longer statistically different. Peak plasma oxytocin concentrations were greater in naloxone-treated mares than in saline-treated mares during the entire prepartum period. During the postpartum period, total amount of oxytocin secreted following vaginocervical stimulation tended to be greater than during the prepartum period, and stimulated oxytocin secretion was significantly greater in naloxone-treated mares than in saline-treated mares. In conclusion, these data suggest that endogenous opioids suppress oxytocin secretion pre and post partum. It appears that opioid inhibition is not limited to the prepartum period, tends to decrease gradually towards parturition and is reinstated after foaling.  相似文献

The aim of this in vitro study was to compare the uterokinetic activity of oxytocin and dinoprost, the natural PGF2α, with or without aglepristone, in canine myometrial fibers. Thirty-three bitches were allocated into one of four groups, depending on their estrous stage and whether or not they had received a treatment with aglepristone (metestrus aglepristone, n = 5; metestrus without treatment, n = 9; anestrus aglepristone, n = 9; anestrus without treatment, n = 10). After hysterectomy, longitudinal and circular uterine strips were mounted in organ baths. Oxytocin or PGF2α (10 nmol/l to 10 micromol/l) were applied non-cumulatively. A linear mixed effects models theory was used to compare the fiber effect, the aglepristone effect, and the treatment effect, from the area under the curves calculated from the contractile effect/concentration curves for each drug.Oxytocin and PGF2α induced concentration-dependent myometrial contractions in longitudinal (LF) and circular myometrial fibers (CF), indicating the presence of functional contractile oxytocin- and PGF2α-receptors in metestrus and anestrus.The contractile response to oxytocin was greater in LF than in CF in all of the groups; the response to PGF2α was greater in LF than in CF in non-treated bitches in anestrus and in treated bitches in metestrus. These results suggest that there is a difference in sensitivity or a heterogeneous distribution of oxytocin and PGF2α-receptors in the myometrial layers, which is independent of hormonal impregnation.The contractile response to oxytocin and PGF2α was significantly increased after aglepristone treatment in LF during metestrus, suggesting that the progesterone withdrawal induced by aglepristone has a role to play. The longitudinal myometrial layer also appeared to be the target for the two drugs at this stage.This study provides new information about canine uterine contractile activity, notably the differing behavior of myometrial CF and LF; in vivo studies are required to test the use of a combination of aglepristone and oxytocin in the treatment of canine pyometra.  相似文献

Ten pony mares that had developed stallion-like sexual behavior as the result of anabolic steroid treatment (boldenone undecylenate, 0.55 mg/kg intramuscularly (i.m.), once weekly for 12 injections) were evaluated for ability to aid in detecting estrus in cycling mares. In across-the-fence estrus detection trials, androgenized mares failed to elicit signs of estrus or diestrus. In 10-min pasture trials, in which each androgenized mare was placed in a group of 10 cycling mares (six of which were estrous), seven of the 10 androgenized mares elicited estrous behavior from one or two mares. Observations of the 10 androgenized mares among a pasture group of 21 cycling mares indicated that approximately one third of the mares in estrus could be identified on the basis of their response to androgenized mares.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was, to investigate the effects of oxytocin administration on Day 7 post-ovulation on progesterone secretion, pregnancy rate and embryonic growth in mares. Endogenous stimulation of oxytocin release was compared to the administration of native oxytocin or the long-acting oxytocin analogue carbetocin. At Day 7 after ovulation, mares had to undergo four treatments in a crossover design: (a) control, (b) oxytocin (10 IU i.v.), (c) carbetocin (280 microg i.m.) and (d) cervical dilation. On Day 13, all mares (8 of 8 mares) were pregnant on groups control, oxytocin and carbetocin and only 6 of 8 mares on group dilation. In one mare uterine fluid accumulation and uterine edema from Day 6 to 13 and early embryonic death by Day 11 occurred during dilation treatment. Another mare, which did not become pregnant during dilation treatment, developed uterine fluid accumulation and uterine edema from Day 10 to 14. Mean growth rates of the conceptuses did not differ among treatment groups and individual growth rates varied in a wide range from -0.1 to 0.8 cm per day. At Day 13, mean diameters of conceptuses yielded 1.4+/-0.1 cm in control group, 1.5+/-0.1 in oxytocin and carbetocin group and 1.3+/-0.2 cm in dilation group. Secretion of progesterone was not affected by treatments. Administration of oxytocin and carbetocin caused similar maximum plasma concentrations of oxytocin, but onset and duration of peaks differed. Maximum concentrations after intramuscular application of carbetocin were obtained almost 20 min later when compared to intravenous administration of oxytocin. Duration of peaks after injection of the long-acting oxytocin analogue was more than three-fold longer than after administration of native oxytocin. In conclusion, the present study showed that single administration of oxytocin or its long-acting analogue carbetocin at Day 7 after ovulation did not affect progesterone secretion, pregnancy rate and embryonic growth. Two possible scenarios concerning the effects of cervical dilation were observed: In the majority of mares, dilation of the caudal half to two-third of the cervical lumen up to a diameter of 4.5 cm had no negative consequences on progesterone secretion and pregnancy outcome. However, cervical dilation caused uterine inflammation and subsequent luteolysis in two mares and early embryonic death in one of them. Thus, manipulation of the cervix itself seems not to have negative impact on success rates of transcervical transfer of embryos in the mare.  相似文献

Urine samples from 14 mares, belonging to five breeds, were collected at estrus and diestrus to search for estrous specific volatile compounds which could be used to determine ovulation time. Around 150 volatiles were collected from urine head-space samples by solid phase micro extraction technique, and analyses were conducted by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry methods. Comparison of chromatographic profiles of volatile substances revealed that concentrations of m- and p-cresols were significantly greater during estrus while diethylphthalate was more abundant at diestrus. Monitoring of m- and p-cresols during the period of estrus and a few days before and after estrus revealed irregular changes in amounts of cresols until 3-4 days before ovulation when the concentration of the compounds began to increase with peaks 1 day before ovulation. On the day when ovulation occurred, amounts of the metabolites decreased sharply, almost to basal concentrations, and remained at these concentrations for 6 days - when sampling was finished. In four of the mares changes in the concentration of diethylphthalate were less pronounced and more temporally variable compared with those of cresols. Based on reproducible temporal changes in concentrations of m- and p-cresols, with respect to the time of ovulation, a noninvasive test to determine a precise insemination time could occur. This would save time, reduce costs and simplify the procedure.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to test the effect of repeated transcervical (non-surgical) uterine flushing and a prostaglandin analogue (PG) on the estrous cycle of pony mares. Uteri in group A were trancervically flushed for embryos 7 to 9 days post ovulation. In addition, group B mares were given 5 ml of PG by intramuscular injection on the day of flushing. Group C served as controls and were not flushed or given PG but were allowed to cycle normally. All mares (except controls) were bred A.I. every other day during estrus. There was no effect on embryo recovery rate from repeated flushing or PG administration. The number of days in estrus was greater for groups A and B than for group C (P<0.05). Length of diestrus was longer for group C than for the other two groups. The total estrous cycle length was similar for all three groups (P>0.05).  相似文献

A small percentage of mature mares continue to exhibit estrous cyclicity during the non-breeding season which is of interest because of the importance of timing of the breeding season to the equine breeding industry. Previously, it was demonstrated that the continuation of estrous cycles was more likely to occur in mature than young mares. Additionally, an apparent association exists between elevated body fat and increased circulating concentrations of leptin, and the occurrence of estrous cycles during the non-breeding season. Two experiments were conducted to test the hypothesis that pharmacological manipulation of body fat and leptin by administration of the beta(2)-adrenergic receptor agonist clenbuterol, with and without continuous treatment with melatonin, would increase the proportion of mares entering anestrus or advance its timing. In Experiment 1, eight mature mares were administered clenbuterol (3.2 microg/kg) daily from October through January and six mares were untreated. In Experiment 2, eight mares were administered clenbuterol daily from June through December, eight mares were treated with continuous release melatonin implants, and seven mares were treated with both clenbuterol and melatonin. Melatonin treatment was included to confirm previous results that constant treatment with melatonin did not advance the timing of anestrus. In both studies, leptin concentrations (P<0.01, both experiments) and body fat percentage (P<0.01, Experiment 1; P<0.05, Experiment 2) declined in response to daily clenbuterol treatment. Unexpectedly, however, this decrease was attenuated in mares also treated with melatonin (P<0.05). Although treatment with clenbuterol was associated with a decline in body fat and circulating concentrations of leptin, the timing or proportion of mares exhibiting anestrus was not modified (P>0.05). The results demonstrate the manipulation of body condition via pharmacological intervention does not modify the mechanisms controlling seasonal anestrus in the mare.  相似文献

Oxytocin is released in response to teasing during both estrus and diestrus in mares, and at least during estrus, teasing results in an increase in electromyographic activity in the uterus. Exogenous oxytocin causes an increase in intrauterine pressure and prior studies have shown that this response is correlated to the day of the estrous cycle. To determine if teasing causes an increase in intrauterine pressure and if this response varies by day of the cycle, intrauterine pressure was measured while mares were teased with a stallion 2 days before ovulation, on the day ovulation was detected and 2 days after ovulation. A significant increase in intrauterine pressure was observed in response to teasing both 2 days before ovulation and on the day of ovulation, when plasma concentrations of progesterone were low. No significant increase in intrauterine pressure was observed in response to teasing 2 days after ovulation when progesterone concentrations were elevated. Management practices that include teasing or stallion exposure may be beneficial in stimulating uterine clearance mechanisms in mares during the preovulatory period.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to investigate differences in the expression of mRNAs for ERalpha, ERbeta and PR in the sow uterus at different stages of the estrous cycle as well as in inseminated sows at estrus and during early pregnancy by use of solution hybridization and in relation to plasma levels of estradiol and progesterone. Uterine samples were collected at different stages of the estrous cycle and after insemination/early pregnancy. In the endometrium, the expression of ERalpha mRNA and PR mRNA was similar for cyclic and early pregnant groups. Both were highest at early diestrus/70 h after ovulation and ERalpha mRNA was lowest at late diestrus/d 19 while PR mRNA was lowest at diestrus and late diestrus/d 11 and d 19. The expression of endometrial ERbeta was constantly low during the estrous cycle but higher expression was found in inseminated/early pregnant sows at estrus and 70 h after ovulation. In the myometrium, high expression of ERalpha mRNA and PR mRNA was observed at proestrus and estrus in cyclic sows and at estrus in newly inseminated sows. Higher expression of myometrial ERbeta mRNA was found in inseminated/early pregnant sows compared with cyclic sows, although significant only at estrus. In conclusion, the expression of mRNAs for ERalpha, ERbeta and PR in the sow uterus differed between endometrium and myometrium as well as with stages of the estrous cycle and early pregnancy. In addition to plasma steroid levels, the differences between cyclic and inseminated/early pregnant sows suggest that other factors, e.g. insemination and/or the presence of embryos, influence the expression of these steroid receptor mRNAs in the sow uterus.  相似文献

In recent years, a positive relationship between genital perfusion and fertility has been established; in species other than horses, uterine and ovarian perfusion was improved by exogenous estrogen but impaired by exogenous progestin. The goal of the present study was to investigate the effect of exogenous estrogen and progestin on uterine and ovarian blood flow in cycling mares. Five Trotter mares were examined daily during three estrous cycles. Mares were given no treatment, altrenogest (0.044 mg/kg BW) orally from Day 0 (ovulation) to Day 14 and estradiol benzoate (5mg i.m.) on Days 0, 5, and 10, in three cycles, respectively. There was no difference ( P > 0.05 ) in the length of untreated versus estrogen-treated cycles ( 22.8 +/-1.3 days and 23.2 +/= 1.5 days, respectively), but cycle length was increased (P < 0.05) in progestin-treated cycles (26.0 +/- 1.2). To facilitate comparisons among cycles with different lengths, data from Days 0 to 15 (diestrus) and from Days -6 to -1 (estrus) were analyzed. Transrectal Doppler sonography was used to evaluate blood flow in both uterine arteries and in the ovarian artery ipsilateral to the preovulatory follicle during estrus and ipsilateral to the corpus luteum during diestrus. Blood flow was assessed semiquantitatively using the pulsatility index (PI); high PI values indicated high resistance and a low perfusion and vice versa. An immediate effect of treatments occurred only after the administration of estradiol benzoate on Day 0; uterine PI values decreased (P < 0.05) between Days 0 and 1 and estrogen-treated mares but increased (P < 0.05) at the corresponding time in untreated cycles. Mean PI values for the uterine and ovarian arteries during both diestrus and estrus were higher (P < 0.05) in estrogen-treated versus untreated mares. Furthermore, mean uterine PI values during diestrus and estrus were higher (P< 0.05) in altrenogest-treated versus untreated mares. Neither estrogen nor altrenogest treatments had a significant immediate effect on ovarian PI values. Compared to untreated cycles, mean ovarian PI values were elevated (P < 0.05) only in the estrus following altrenogest administration. In conclusion, exogenous estrogen and progestin both decreased genital perfusion in cycling mares.  相似文献

Effects of beta-endorphin and naloxone on bovine uterine motility were tested both in vivo and in vitro. Six cyclic Holstein cows were used to study in vivo effects of beta-endorphin and naloxone on uterine motility during estrus and diestrus. Intrauterine pressure changes were recorded by a microtip pressure transducer before and after treatment. Blood samples were taken every 10 min during the recording periods for beta-endorphin assay. The results revealed that beta-endorphin anc naloxone had no effect on intrauterine pressure in vivo. The effects of beta-endorphin and naloxone on myometrial contractility were also examined in vitro. Beta-endorphin and naloxone were added to tissue baths containing estrous and diestrous uterine strips. The results showed no significant effect of beta-endorphin and naloxone on bovine myometrial contractility. The role of beta-endorphin in bovine reproductive physiology is still not clearly understood, and additional studies are needed.  相似文献

Uterine tubal fluids (UTF) were collected daily over a 214-day period (March through August) from three mares. Individual UTF samples identified by day of estrous cycle for five complete cycles within this six-month span were analyzed for free amino acids and total protein. Biochemical comparisons were made to blood plasma by drawing samples daily from each mare. Free amino acids and total protein were determined also on follicular fluids collected from three different mares on days 5 and 6 of standing estrus.The free amino acid level of UTF was significantly greater than was the amino acid concentration in blood plasma or follicular fluid. The highest concentration of amino acids in UTF was on day 13. Cyclic trends were observed for the amino acids, histidine, methionine, half-cystine, serine, proline, glycine, alanine, isolecine, and leucine. Glycine and alanine were found in the highest concentrations in UTF, peaking on day 17 of the estrous cycle. Protein concentration in UTF was highest on day 13 and lowest on days 7 and 19. Protein values for diestrus (33.1 mg/ml) were significantly greater (p<0.05) than for estrus (28.0 mg/ml).  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine whether supplemental beta-carotene would influence reproductive function in mares maintained on spring and summer pastures and to characterize plasma carotene concentrations during the estrous cycle. Carotene concentrations in plasma did not vary with day of estrous cycle (P = 0.7455). Mares receiving every other day injections of beta-carotene (400 mg; n = 4) or saline (10 ml; n = 4) during proestrus/estrus did not differ in plasma estradiol (E(2)) concentrations (P = 0.6313), follicle development (P = 0.8068), or plasma progesterone (P(4)) concentrations during the following diestrus (P = 0.4954). Moreover, no differences in plasma P(4) concentrations (P = 0.9047) were detected between mares receiving every other day injections of beta-carotene (400 mg; n = 4) or saline (10 ml; n = 4) during diestrus. However, administration of beta-carotene raised plasma carotene concentrations relative to controls when injected during proestrus/estrus (P = 0.0096) and diestrus (P = 0.0099). Pregnancy rates (P = 0.4900) and number of cycles required for pregnancy (P = 0.2880) were similar for mares administered injections of saline (10 ml; n = 37), beta-carotene (400 mg; n = 37), vitamin A (160,000 IU; n = 38), or vitamin A + beta-carotene (160,000 IU + 400 mg; n = 43), on the first or second day of estrus and on the day of breeding. Therefore, these results collectively suggest that supplemental beta-carotene does not affect the reproductive function of mares fed adequate dietary carotene. Whether supplemental beta-carotene would enhance reproductive function in mares on low carotene diets warrants further investigation.  相似文献

Luteolysis with subsequent shortening of diestrus has been reported to follow equine endometrial biopsy performed early in the luteal phase of the estrous cycle, but a comprehensive study of the effect of endometrial biopsy on cycle length at different times of the cycle has not been reported. In this study, endometrial biopsies were obtained from four different pony mares on each of Days 0, 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 after ovulation as determined by serial palpation per rectum. Compared with control cycles in the same mares, the ovulatory interval was shortened in mares from which biopsies were obtained on Days 4 and 8, it was lengthened in from which samples were taken on Days 16 and 20 and it remained unchanged by biopsies performed on Days 0 and 12. Although the changes were less consistent and smaller than those observed in cows, our findings are similar to those reported for effects of endometrial manipulation or uterine infusion on the estrous cycle of cows.  相似文献

Mares at Day 42 of pregnancy received daily intramuscular (i.m.) injection of 5 mg of prostaglandin F2alpha (PGF(2alpha)) until the beginning of the first (Group I, n = 3) or second estrous cycle (Group II, n = 2). All mares aborted 3 to 4 d after the first injection; they displayed estrus 2 to 6 d after this injection. As determined by palpation per rectum and serum progesterone levels, each estrus was accompanied by an ovulation. Endometrial cups did not regress after PGF(2alpha) treatment since serum samples from the mares contained pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG) for at least 30 d after first injection, as determined by mare immunopregnancy test. After the first estrus, two of three mares in Group I displayed a prolonged diestrus (> 25 d). In contrast, the first estrous cycle was short (8 to 12 d) for mares in Group II. Serum progesterone levels in the first 6 d postovulation were lower (P < 0.05) for Group II than for Group I, indicating that formation of the corpus luteum was impaired by daily injections of PGF(2). Results indicate that 1) daily injections of PGF(2alpha) can induce abortion in mares at Day 42 of pregnancy, 2) abortion is followed by estrus and ovulation, 3) the endometrial cups do not regress as a result of this treatment, and 4) daily injections of PGF(2) can impair early corpus luteum development.  相似文献
