Vernonia is the largest genus of the tribe Vernonieae (Asteraceae) and comprises more than 1,000 species. In the present study we explore chromosome number and karyotype variation of eight species treated within different subsections of the section Vernonia sect. Lepidaploa. We aimed to explore if these data support the recognition of a single large genus (sensu Baker) or favor its splitting into 22 small genera (sensu Robinson). The species were collected in ??cerrado??, rupicolous and disturbed areas in the states of S?o Paulo and Minas Gerais, Brazil. Chromosome numbers varied from 2n?=?32 to 60. Most chromosomes were small, and the karyotype analysis revealed a predominance of metacentric and some submetacentric chromosomes. The karyotype symmetry in Vernonia was moderate (TF% 32.2 to 45.9), with the most symmetrical karyotype observed in V. rubriramea. The results obtained here did not conclusively support any of the taxonomic proposals for Vernonia due to the absence of distinctive or characteristic karyotype patterns for any of the taxonomic groupings, i.e., sections and subsections (sensu Baker) or new genera (sensu Robinson). Nevertheless, a tenuous relationship was observed between the chromosome numbers reported in the literature, those recorded here, and the taxonomic alterations suggested by Robinson for the genera Lessingianthus, Chrysolaena, and Vernonanthura that were originally part of Vernonia sensu Baker.  相似文献

Nutlet sculpturing of 22 taxa ofScutellaria sect.Resinosa, representing 18 of its 19 species, and the monotypic genusSalazaria was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The nutlets of sect.Resinosa, while remarkably variable among themselves, differed from hypothetically closely related sections in lacking circumferential banding and sessile glands. Species could be grouped by surface sculpturing into seemingly meaningful phenetic clusters.Scutellaria potosina var.platyphylla was sufficiently distinct micromorphically so as to be elevated to specific status asScutellaria platyphylla comb. and stat. nov. The significance of nutlet microcharacters within sect.Resinosa is discussed, especially as compared to closely related sections. The genusSalazaria had nutlet sculpturing quite different from all taxa belonging to sect.Resinosa.  相似文献

Two North American species ofClematis, sect.Atragene (L.) DC, are recognized.C. occidentalis (Hörnern.) DC. is divided into three varieties, native respectively to eastern North America, the Rocky Mountains, and the Cascade Mountains of Washington.C. columbiana (Nutt.) Torr. & Gray is divided into two extensively intergrading varieties, one prevailing in the southern Rocky Mountains, the other in the northern foothills and in outlying mountain ranges. After a study of the type specimen ofC. columbiana, it was concluded that this name should be applied to the species hitherto commonly known asC. pseudoalpina (O. Kuntze) A. Nels., rather than to the taxon with which it has usually been associated. The two species are evidently closely related and appear occasionally to have hybridized in nature.  相似文献

A cladistic study of all 44 species of North AmericanCoreopsis was performed using 35 characters. The resulting cladogram indicated that all 11 sections are monophyletic. At the intersectional level, two lineages were revealed, one consisting of six sections occurring almost exclusively in Mexico and California, and another comprising five sections restricted largely to the eastern and southeastern United States. The cladogram is similar to phylogenies produced by less explicit methods but it differs in two major respects: the monotypic sect.Silphidium is placed with other sections from the southeastern United States rather than with Mexican sections, and sect.Anathysana from Mexico is more closely allied with the three California sections than with sect.Electra from Mexico.  相似文献

Most North American botanists includeDiplachne inLeptochloa but good evidence for this treatment has never been provided. The diagnostic characters of these two closely related genera of the tribe Eragrosteae are presented and the seven species ofDiplachne and six ofLeptochloa occurring in America north of Mexico are distinguished. Three new combinations are made inDiplachne:D. sect. Ipnum, D. panicoides andD. monticola and the generic disposition of all the Central and North American species noted.  相似文献

Two new species ofBriquetia,B. sonorae andB. inermis, are described from northern Mexico, and another species that ranges from Mexico to Bolivia is transferred into the genus asB. spicata. The genus (previously known as monotypic, Paraguayan-Brazilian) is thereby enlarged from one species to four, and its geographical and morphological limits are greatly expanded. Also, a Mexican species ofAbutilon is transferred toHochreutinera, asH. amplexifolia, enlarging that genus from one to two species. On the basis of this new information, the limits of the informalBriquetia alliance are reconsidered; it is considered to include onlyBriquetia, Dirhamphis, andBatesimalva.  相似文献

Some taxonomic and nomenclatural problems withinLycopodiales are discussed. InHyperzia Bernh. three subgenera have been distinguished, one of them described as a new one. With regard to a separate position ofLycopodium sect.Magellanica B. Øllgaard, a new genusAustrolycopodium Holub was proposed, comprising eight species mostly from the Southern Hemisphere. An analysis of the validity of the generic nameDiphasium C. Presl 1845 was carried out with an affirmative result. Six names for infrageneric taxa ofHuperzia and 44 new combinations for species have been proposed; in addition to those ofAustrolycopodium (8) they refer mainly toHuperzia (22) andPalhinhaea (9).  相似文献

The present generic concept of Phoma is broadly defined, with nine sections being recognised based on morphological characters. Teleomorph states of Phoma have been described in the genera Didymella, Leptosphaeria, Pleospora and Mycosphaerella, indicating that Phoma anamorphs represent a polyphyletic group. In an attempt to delineate generic boundaries, representative strains of the various Phoma sections and allied coelomycetous genera were included for study. Sequence data of the 18S nrDNA (SSU) and the 28S nrDNA (LSU) regions of 18 Phoma strains included were compared with those of representative strains of 39 allied anamorph genera, including Ascochyta, Coniothyrium, Deuterophoma, Microsphaeropsis, Pleurophoma, Pyrenochaeta, and 11 teleomorph genera. The type species of the Phoma sections Phoma, Phyllostictoides, Sclerophomella, Macrospora and Peyronellaea grouped in a subclade in the Pleosporales with the type species of Ascochyta and Microsphaeropsis. The new family Didymellaceae is proposed to accommodate these Phoma sections and related anamorph genera. The present study demonstrated that Phoma radicina, the type species of Phoma sect. Paraphoma and Phoma heteromorphospora, the type species of Phoma sect. Heterospora can be assigned to the Phaeosphaeriaceae and Leptosphaeriaceae respectively.  相似文献

We present a comprehensive phylogeny derived from nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrDNA) for 214 samples representing 98 species and five varieties, including 44 species and five varieties native to China. Our collection of 25 species and five varieties (44 samples) covering all five sections of the genus (Comber) distributed in China also were included in the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) database. This study incorporates previous research with an emphasis on Chinese species, including the controversial subsection, Sinomartagon 5c Comber. In the phylogenetic tree obtained by maximum parsimony (PAUP) and maximum likelihood (RAxML) analyses, the samples were divided into four major groups. Our results suggest that the subsection (subsect.) 5c Comber should be classified into the true subsect. 5c and the section (sect.) Lophophorum. And the latter was divided into three subsections (subsect. Lophophorum I, subsect. Lophophorum II, and subsect. Lophophorum III). Based on molecular phylogenetic analysis and fluorescence in situ hybridization, we report that L. henryi and L. rosthornii are closely related, and we propose their classification into subsect. Leucolirion 6a. Our results support Comber’s subdivision of sect. Leucolirion, which was primarily based on bulb color. Chinese species were divided into five sections: sect. Martagon, sect. Archelirion, sect. Leucolirion, sect. Sinomartagon, and sect. Lophophorum. These findings contribute to our understanding of the phylogeny, origin, and classification of Lilium.  相似文献

This study represents a nuclear rDNA ITS-based phylogenetic analyses of a greater sampling of the Old WorldAstragalus compared to our previous work (212 vs. 134 taxa). Phylogenetic relationships among 212 species (213 accessions) of the Old WorldAstragalus, including newly segregated monotypic genusPodlechiella, the two aneuploid New WorldAstragalus, and five related genera, were inferred from analyses of nuclear rDNA ITS sequences using maximum parsimony. A total of 658 nucleotide sites and four binary characters for indels were analyzed. The results of phylogenetic analyses suggest sect.Phyllolobium, comprising mostly the Chinese species, is placed outside of the so-calledAstragalus s. str. and is a well-supported monophyletic group. The monotypic annual segregate genusThlaspidium (≡Astragalus sect.Thlaspidium, A. thlaspi), is clearly nested withinAstragalus s. str. Among the many sections analyzed here, only sects.Cenanthrum, Caraganella, Eremophysa, Incani, Laxiflori, andLotidium are strongly supported as monophyletic. Our analysis, in agreement with previous studies, shows that the North American euploidAstragalus species are scattered throughout the Old World groups of the genus.  相似文献

Chromosome numbers of some new world species of Thelypteris   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
Alan R. Smith 《Brittonia》1971,23(4):354-360
Chromosome numbers of 19 species ofThelypteris from Florida, California, Mexico, and Costa Rica are reported. First counts are given for two species belonging to sect.Goniopteris (x = 36), one species of sect.Leptogramma (x = 36) and seven species of the Opposita group (x = 29). The last named group is remarkable for the relatively low number of diploid taxa so far known. The base numbers 36, 35, 34, 32, 31, 30, 29, and 27 are known in the Thelypteridaceae, with 36 being the most common number throughout the tropics, and perhaps the ancestral base number. The temperate American species ofThelypteris are probably more closely allied toParathelypteris H. Ito, from Asia, than to the Neotropical species of the Opposita group.  相似文献

About sixty taxa in the genusLinum are arranged systematically and are compared using data published earlier for the fatty acid content of their seeds. Plants of sect.Linum, of sect.Dasylinum, and Old World species of sect.Linastrum generally have higher percentages of linolenic acid and lower percentages of linoleic acid; plants of sect.Syllinum, of sect.Cathartolinum, and New World species of sect.Linastrum have the reverse tendencies. The segregation ofL. stelleroides from other species of sect.Linum and the maintenance ofL. tenuifolium in a section separate from other tested species are supported.  相似文献

Enzyme electrophoresis was employed to ascertain the number of loci encoding plastid phosphoglucose isomerase (PGI) in species representing all sections of North American Coreopsis. Several species from each of the closely related genera Bidens, Coreocarpus, Cosmos, and Thelesperma were also examined. Species in nine of the 11 sections of North American Coreopsis have two isozymes for plastid PGI, and nearly all species examined in the four other genera also have two (one species has three) isozymes. Since most diploid vascular plants have one plastid PGI isozyme, a gene duplication probably occurred in an ancestor that is common to Coreopsis and the other four genera. That is, two isozymes represent the ancestral number for Coreopsis. The two sections (Electra and Anathysana) apparently lacking the duplication are closely related woody plants restricted largely to Mexico. One gene encoding plastid PGI ostensibly was silenced in a common ancestor of these two sections. This is concordant with other data suggesting a close relationship between the two sections, i.e., they appear to represent a monophyletic group. The electrophoretic data also indicate that 1) the enigmatic monotypic section Silphidium is more closely related to eastern North American sections and not derived from section Electra; and 2) section Anathysana is not ancestral to the three California sections Leptosyne, Pugiopappus, and Tuckermannia; rather, it represents a terminal element closely related to and possibly derived from section Electra.  相似文献

A chromosome number ofn=12 is reported for the three monotypic genera of subtribe Castillejinae:Clevelandia beldingii, Gentrya racemosa, andOpicopephalus angustifolius. Chromosome numbers ofOrthocarpus correspond mostly with current infrageneric classification. SubgenusTriphysaria hasn=11.Orthocarpus sectionsCastillejoides andCordylanthoides, which are closely related toCastilleja (x=12) and the three monotypic genera above, haven=12 with aneuploid reductions ton=10 inO. linearilobus andn=11 inO. lacerus (a species also withn=12). Tetraploids are found in two species.O. brevistylus (n=24) andO. hispidus (n=12, 24). The polyploid.O. laciniatus (n=36, 48) of Peru is postulated to be of hybrid origin between a species ofCastilleja andOrthocarpus attenuatus. SubgenusOrthocarpus sectionOrthocarpus, which hasn=14 in all species except.O. bracteosus (n=15), stands apart both morphologically and in chromosome number from the remainder of the genus.  相似文献
