Intensive selection of broilers for faster growth and better feed efficiency resulted in greater susceptibility to metabolic disorders such as ascites syndrome, which is one of the major causes of mortality and economic loss in broiler industry. Whereas cool temperature is one of the primary triggers for ascites, early feed restriction (FDR) significantly alleviates its incidence and mortality. However, little is known about effects of FDR, cold environmental temperature and their interaction on physiological responses in broiler chickens. For this purpose, 320 one-day-old male broilers were divided into two treatment groups of Ad libitum (Ad) and feed restricted (FR) with eight pen replicates each. Chickens in FR group underwent feed access limitation from days 7 to 14 of age. On day 21 half of the birds (four pens) in each group exposed to the cold temperature (CT) and the other half (four pens) continued at normal temperature (NT). Average daily feed intake, average daily weight gain and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were measured at days 7, 14, 21, 28 and 42. At 39 and 46 days of age two chicks with a BW around the pen average were selected from each pen and slaughtered after collecting blood samples. Then, relative weight of internal organs and right ventricle weight per total ventricle weight (RV : TV) ratio were calculated. Compared with NT group, CT birds had higher daily feed intake and FCR (P<0.05) from day 28 to 42. Cumulative ascites mortality in CT chickens was higher (P<0.001) than NT chicks. Within the CT group, ascites mortality in FR chickens was reduced (P<0.001) to 1.25% compared with 8.75% in Ad chicks. Birds in CT group had significantly (P<0.05) thicker right ventricle and greater relative weight of heart, hematocrit and triiodothyronine concentration. However, none of these parameters were affected by FDR. Under cold stress conditions, FDR reduced activity of alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase (P<0.05). Serum triglyceride, cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein and total protein were not influenced by either temperature or feeding regimen. In conclusion, these findings suggest that FDR reduces ascites incidence mainly by allowing better development of internal organs, which helps them to cope with the high metabolic pressure and suffer less damage.  相似文献

The study was conducted to investigate the effects of different levels of eucalyptus powder (EP), virginiamycin and probiotic on performance, immunity, blood components and carcass traits of broiler chickens. A total of 250, 1-day-old male broiler chickens (Ross 308) were randomly allocated to five treatments with five replicates and 10 chicks each, as a completely randomized design. The dietary treatments consisted of: basal diet (BD), BD+0.25% EP, BD+0.5% EP, BD+0.01% of diet probiotic (Protexin), BD+0.02% of diet antibiotic (virginiamycin). Dietary supplementation did not affect feed intake, BW gain (BWG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) during starter and grower phases, but BWG and FCR were affected during the finisher and whole periods (P<0.05).The highest BWG and lowest FCR were obtained in birds fed with virginiamycin and 0.5% EP. Dietary supplementation significantly increased the relative weight of carcass and breast (P<0.05). Treatments had no effect on relative weights of internal organs and small intestine except for bursa that increased by treatments. Relative length of jejunum also increased by treatments (P<0.05). Antibody production against sheep red blood cells did not changed in primary titer (day 35), but it significantly increased in secondary titer (day 42) by 0.5% EP. White blood cell counts were increased and cholesterol decreased by dietary supplementation (P<0.05). In conclusion, the results of this study showed that 0.5% EP served as a useful replacement for antibiotic and would improve performance and immune response of broiler chickens.  相似文献

Feed restriction after weaning is widely used in meat rabbit farms to promote health and reduce mortality, but this practice impacts negatively on rabbit growth and slaughter performance. This study compared a 3-week post-weaning feed restriction with ad libitum medicated feeding, evaluating effects on feed intake, growth, health, carcass and meat quality of rabbits of two genotypes: Italian White pure breed and Hycole hybrid×Italian White crossbred. A total of 512 rabbits at 36 days of age, of both sexes and two genotypes, were divided into four homogeneous groups assigned, from 36 to 57 days of age, to different feeding programmes (FP): restricted non-medicated (R-N), ad libitum non-medicated (L-N), restricted medicated (R-M) and ad libitum medicated (L-M). The diets were medicated with oxytetracycline (1540 mg/kg) and colistin sulphate (240 mg/kg). The restriction, performed by giving 70, 80 and 90 g/day of feed for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd week, was followed by ad libitum feeding in the successive 5 weeks, up to slaughter at 92 days of age. Restricted feeds were ingested at a level of 64% of the feed intake recorded in the ad libitum fed rabbits; it was significantly associated, regardless of medication and rabbit genotype, with a lower feed intake (−22 to −24 g dry matter/day) during the entire experiment, compensatory growth and a lower feed conversion ratio in the ad libitum period, and a lower final live weight (−150 g) than ad libitum feeding (P<0.001). During restriction, mortality was lower in the restricted rabbits (6.25%, 5.47% v. 12.5%, 14.8% for R-N, R-M, L-N and L-M; P<0.05), whereas in the ad libitum period mortality did not differ among the groups (9.23%, 9.90%, 11.0% and 4.59% for R-N, R-M, L-N and L-M). Dressing out percentage was not affected by FP or genotype; heavier carcasses were produced by rabbits fed ad libitum (+100 g; P<0.001) and crossbred rabbits (+122 g; P<0.001). Restriction did not alter meat quality, except for a tendency towards a higher cooking loss and less fat; crossbred meat was higher in L* (+1.3; P<0.01) and b* (+0.51; P<0.05) colour indexes and tenderness (−0.14 kg/cm2; P<0.05) than pure breed meat. Under the conditions of this study, a 3-week restricted feeding after weaning resulted to be a suitable alternative, also for high growth potential genotypes, to the antibiotics to preserve rabbit health. The production of lighter carcasses could be compensated partly by the lower feed conversion ratio showed by restricted rabbits.  相似文献

The influence on the productive value of diets for broiler chickens based on barley harvested at two stages of ripeness, when including β-glucanase in increasing amounts, was evaluated in a production experiment over three weeks. Feed consumption and live weight increased (P < 0.001) and feed conversion was improved (P < 0.001) by including β-glucanase in the diets. Dry matter content of excreta increased significantly as a result of β-glucanase inclusion. Broiler chickens receiving diets based on barley harvested at combine ripeness were slightly heavier (P < 0.05) at three weeks than those fed on barley harvested at early yellow ripeness.  相似文献

The meat fats content associated to nutritional and sensory characteristics are the most important concerns of consumers. To study the effect of caponisation on the meat quality of two different breed chickens, slaughtered at 18 weeks of age, raised under the same conditions, the physicochemical and sensory characteristics of capons (castrated males at 8 weeks of age) and roosters’ meat of native Amarela Portuguesa and native Pedrês Portuguesa breeds were evaluated. Forty Amarela (20 roosters and 20 capons), 40 Pedrês (20 roosters and 20 capons) chickens, and also, six free-range chicken and six broilers were evaluated. The pH, water-holding capacity, Warner-Bratzler shear force, moisture content, ash, myoglobin, collagen, CP, total fat and fatty acids profile were evaluated in breast and leg meat, according to standard procedures. Leg meat capon showed greater intramuscular fat content (P⩽0.05), monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and CP (P⩽0.001) than leg roosters. Caponisation increased the content of myoglobin and MUFA (P⩽0.05) and reduced the moisture content in the leg (P⩽0.05). The main fatty acids found were oleic acid (C18:1), palmitic acid (C16:0) and linoleic acid (C18:2). The greatest value of C18:1 was observed in capon’s breast (P⩽0.01). Sensory analysis was made to compare the Amarela and Pedrês meat with a free-range chicken and a broiler. The sensory taste panel classified the capon’s meat (Amarela and Pedrês) as juicier, less fibrous and tougher than rooster’s meat. The broiler was in general juicier, tenderer and less fibrous than the other birds. The results of sensory analysis complement those obtained in physicochemical analysis, suggesting that caponisation promotes an overall improvement in meat quality.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of programmed intravenous infusion of chicken growth hormone (cGH) on growth and metabolism of young broiler chickens (4–7 weeks of age). Four-week-old broiler cockerels, fitted with indwelling jugular catherters, were randomly assigned to three treatment groups (6 birds/group): pulsatile infusion of buffer (phosphate buffer, pH 7.4)[PB-P] at 3 hr intervals, pulsatile infusion of cGH (15 μg/kg at 3 hr intervals)[GH-P], or continuous infusion of cGH (120 μg/kg-day)[GH-C]. Birds were bled 5 min before (0-min) and 5 min post-infusion (relative to the pulses of PB and cGH) at 5, 6, and 7 weeks of age. Pulsatile infusion of cGH increased (P < 0.05) feed consumption by 24% and reduced (P < 0.05) feed efficiency by 14% without affecting body weight (BW) gain. The relative weights (%BW) of liver, abdominal fat, and bursa of Fabricius were not affected by the pattern of cGH infusion. However, the body fat content of cGH-infused chickens was increased (P < 0.05) by 13% (GH-C) and 17% (GH-P), while body protein and water contents were slightly reduced. Body ash content was not affected by pattern of cGH infusion. When compared with the PB-P controls, the GH-P treatment depressed (P < 0.05) hepatic GH-binding activity by 52% without affecting plasma insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) levels. Continuous infusion of cGH increased (P < 0.05) plasma IGF-I by 16%, thyroxine (T4) by 31%, and glucagon levels by 55%, although plasma GH levels were only 47% higher than those of the PB-P group. However, the GH-P treatment was only half as effective as the GH-C pattern in elevating plasma levels of T4 and glucagon. This study shows that programmed intravenous infusion of cGH increases deposition of body fat in young rapidly-growing broiler chickens.  相似文献

The protein sources in feed have a huge impact on good-quality and -quantity meat traits. Yellow lupin (YL) seeds have a similar level of protein as soybean meal (SBM). The most popular is SBM that is genetically modified (GMO). During this age, the consumer market requires non-GMO products. Yellow lupin used as a high-protein substitute for SBM in feed has an effect on the quality of meat from broiler ducks. The aim of the study was to analyse and compare meat quality traits in breast and leg muscles as well as fatty acid (FA) composition in breast muscles from ducks fed mixtures containing YL as an alternative to SBM. Two hundred 1-day-old Cherry Valley ducks were kept in pens on litter in two equal dietary groups, four replications with 25 birds per group. The control group (1) received balanced feed containing SBM. The treatment group (2) received balanced feed containing YL. The feed provided to both groups contained 55% of concentrate and 45% of wheat. Birds received feed and water ad libitum and were reared for 8 weeks. After that, 16 ducks (eight from each group) of BW close to the mean for the whole group were slaughtered. Plucked and gutted carcasses were analysed in a laboratory for quality parameters. Meat was analysed for pH, colour, water-holding capacity and drip loss. Samples of breast muscles were analysed for the content of cholesterol, collagen, intramuscular fat and FA composition. The proposed feed mixture containing YL had no impact on meat traits, content of muscles or fat in duck carcasses (P > 0.05). The values of lightness (L*) and yellowness (b*) and collagen content in breast muscles were significantly higher (P < 0.05) in group 2 (YL). A lower ability to retain water, that is, higher water-holding capacity (percentage of water lost from meat) (P < 0.05), was found for leg muscles from group 2 (YL). The content of C16:0, C18:0, C20:4 n-6, C22:4 n-6, C22:5 n-3, total content of saturated fatty acids (SFA), values of atherogenic index and thrombogenic index were significantly lower (P < 0.05) in group 2 (YL) than in group 1 (SBM). The content of C18:2 n-6 and the polyunsaturated fatty acids-to-SFA ratio (P/S) were significantly higher (P < 0.05) in ducks fed the diet with the inclusion of YL. Diets with YL could be proposed as a partial substitute for SBM in duck-rearing.  相似文献

Despite increasing evidence indicating the essential involvement of selenium (Se) on growth performance, antioxidant capacity, and meat quality of commercial broilers, the effects of different Se sources on local Chinese Subei chickens is unclear. A total of 360 50-day-old male chickens were individually weighed and randomly allocated to four treatment groups. Chickens in each of the four groups were fed diets supplemented with 0.3 mg Se/kg as sodium Se (SS), Se-enriched yeast (SY), selenomethionine (Met-Se), or nano red element Se (Nano-Se) for 40 days. At the end of the experiment, one bird of approximately average weight from each cage was selected and slaughtered, and blood and breast muscles samples were collected. The results showed that there was no significant difference in feed intake, body weight gain, or feed to gain ratio among treatments (P > 0.05). Dietary SY, Met-Se, and Nano-Se supplementation increased the activity of glutathione peroxidase in serum and breast muscles and decreased the concentration of malondialdehyde in serum and carbonyl in breast muscles compared with the SS group (P < 0.05). Moreover, SY, Met-Se, and Nano-Se supplementation increased pH45min, total protein solubility, and myofibrillar protein solubility, as well as decreased the shear force value compared with the SS group (P < 0.05). In addition, birds in the SY and Met-Se groups exhibited lower cooking loss compared with the SS group (P < 0.05). In conclusion, organic Se and Nano-Se supplementation resulted in an improvement of antioxidant capacity and meat quality in local Chinese Subei chickens relative to inorganic Se.  相似文献

Heavy weight gilts commonly show signs of oestrus during the late finishing phase, which results in a period of reduced feed intake and growth rate. Immunization against gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) (IM, immunocastration) was developed for finishing boars and recently extrapolated to females. Immunocastration acts by suppressing reproductive activity and improving the growth potential. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of IM on growth performance, reproductive activity and carcass characteristics of late finishing gilts. Seventy-two gilts (63.49 ± 0.39 kg) were either injected with saline (Intact) or immunized against GnRH (Immunized). The study consisted of three experimental periods: between the first to second immunization (V1 to V2, 15 to 19 weeks of age), from the second immunization to the beginning of daily boar exposure (DBE) (V2 to DBE, 19 to 21 weeks of age) and from the beginning of DBE to slaughter (S) (DBE to S, 21 to 25 weeks of age). Immunized gilts showed an overall increase (from 15 to 25 weeks) of 3.90 kg (P < 0.05) of live weight, 56 g (P < 0.05) of average daily gain (ADG) and 250 g (P < 0.001) of average daily feed intake (ADFI). Immunized gilts had a greater ADFI (+240 g, P < 0.05) and worse feed conversion ratio (+0.26, P < 0.05) from 19 (V2) to 21 weeks of age (before DBE). Furthermore, those females had higher feed intake (+410 g; P < 0.001) plus greater daily weight gain (+92 g; P < 0.05) from V2 to S, and from DBE to S (+470 g of ADFI, P < 0.001; +129 g of ADG, P < 0.01, respectively). Immunocastration had no effect on backfat thickness, lean meat percentage and weight, cold carcass yield or loin depth (P > 0.05). Immunized gilts showed 4.4% increased cold carcass weight (P < 0.01) and 10.6% greater gross flank weight (P < 0.001). Immunization against GnRH did not influence shoulder, collar, loin, belly or ham weights. Nor did it influence belly fat thickness, or meat, skin plus fat and bones yields of cold ham (P > 0.05). Immunocastration reduced ovarian and uterine weights by 82% (P < 0.001) and 93% (P < 0.001), respectively, and suppressed oestrus manifestation in all gilts in the immunized group (P < 0.001). These results indicate that immunization against GnRH is a promising tool for stimulating growth performance with no detrimental effects on carcass quality of heavy weight finishing gilts, by means of oestrus suppression.  相似文献

Ross 308 chickens were used to investigate fatty acid (FA) composition and oxidative stability of broiler chicken meat following the controlled inhibition of peroxidation in feed containing a concentrated source of omega-3 fatty acids (flaxseed oil, FLO), approximately 50% omega-3. Ninety-six one-day-old chicks were randomly allocated to four dietary treatments (n = 24/group) that included rapeseed oil (RO), flaxseed oil (FLO), RO with optimised quercetin (Q) – RO_Q, or FLO with optimised Q (FLO_Q). On day 35, breast and thigh muscles were collected in order to analyse their FA profile and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Dietary treatments had no effect on weight gain or feed conversion ratio in chickens. However, dietary FLO increased the deposition of α-linolenic acid in both pectoral and thigh meat (P < 0.05), and tended to decrease the ratio of omega-6/omega-3 FA in pectoral muscles (P < 0.07). Addition of an optimised concentration of Q proved to be an efficient way of limiting lipoperoxidation in breast and thigh muscles subjected to refrigeration at 2–3 °C for either 1 or 7 days. Results were consistent with the observed inhibition of peroxidation in feed mixtures and significantly correlated with MDA levels found in feed mixtures. These results provide evidence that it is possible to produce poultry meat with an improved proportion of omega-3 FA without significantly altering the performance of broiler chickens or the oxidative stability of their meat.  相似文献

A study was conducted using 360 broiler chickens to evaluate the effects of dietary vitamin E (0, 125 and 250 mg/kg), selenium (Se, 0, 0.5 and 1 mg/kg), or their different combinations on immune response and blood biological parameters of broilers raised under either thermoneutral (TN, 23.9 °C constant) or heat stress (HS, 23.9 to 37 °C cycling) conditions. Humoral immunity was assessed by intravenous injection of 7 % sheep red blood cell (SRBC) followed by evaluation of serum for antibody titers in primary and secondary responses. Heterophil to lymphocyte (H/L) ratio also determined as an indicator of stress. Furthermore, at the end of the experiment, birds were bled for determination of some biological parameters. There was a significant reduction in body weight and feed intake, but the feed conversion ratio increased when the birds were exposed to HS (P?<?0.05). Body weight and feed intake were not influenced significantly by dietary vitamin E and Se (P?>?0.05), whereas feed conversion was improved significantly by 125 mg/kg vitamin E (P?<?0.05). The liver and lymphoid organ weights as well as IgM and IgG, antibody titers for primary and secondary antibody responses to SRBC were reduced significantly under HS (P?<?0.05). Heat stress also resulted in a significant increase in H/L ratio (P?<?0.05). Dietary vitamin E resulted in improvement of primary and secondary antibody responses both in TN and HS broilers (P?<?0.05). The HS birds also showed an improved antibody titer in secondary response with high concentration of Se (P?<?0.05). Vitamin E and Se had interactive effects on anti-SRBC titers; however, no consistent differences were found between dietary levels during the study. The H/L ratio decreased by feeding vitamin E at both levels either under HS or TN conditions (P?<?0.05). The serum concentrations of glucose, triglycerides, total cholesterol, and LDL-cholesterol were increased but serum HDL-cholesterol decreased in HS broilers (P?<?0.05).  相似文献

Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) negatively affects chicken (Gallus domesticus) growth. This effect is more severe during development. We studied the influence of age on the toxic effects of AFB1 on plasma, renal and hepatic enzymes, under two protocols, in adult and in developing Arbor-Acres chickens. Protocol A: 100 male 4-week-old chickens (640 g), received AFB1, 0.5, 1.0, or 2.0 μg/g of feed (daily p.o.), a fourth group received an aflatoxin-free diet. Five birds/group were slaughtered at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days of treatment. Body, hepatic and renal weights, succinate-dehydrogenase (SDH) and glutamate-dehydrogenase (GluDH) in plasma and liver were measured. Hepatic SDH and GluDH decreased (P<0.05). Protocol B: two groups of 24 male 1-week-old chickens (106 g) received either aflatoxin-free feed (n=24) or AFB1 feed (2.0 μg/g). At days 7, 14, 21 and 28, the same parameters of Protocol A were measured. AFB1 markedly reduced body weight gain (20–30%), plasma proteins, albumin, renal and hepatic protein content (P<0.05) and increased absolute and relative weights of the kidney (P<0.05). SDH and GluDH were reduced (P<0.05), while total renal γ-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT) increased (P<0.05). Results suggest that serum proteins, SDH and GluDH are sensitive early indicators of this toxicity that was more severe in developing chickens. Decrease in serum albumin might be used as an early and suitable indicator of the deleterious effect of this mycotoxin in developing chickens.  相似文献

l-theanine is a unique nonproteinogenic amino acid found in tea, and has recently received considerable attention because of its various biological activities. However, there is no available research report on the use of l-theanine as a feed additive in ducks. This study was conducted to investigate the potential benefits and appropriate dosages of l-theanine on the growth performance, immune function, serum biochemical parameters, and jejunum morphology and antioxidant capacity of ducks. A total of 600 1-day-old Chaohu ducks were randomly allocated into five dietary treatment groups supplemented with 0 (control group), 300, 600, 900 and 1500 mg/kg of l-theanine. Each group included five replicates of 24 birds each. Body weight at day 28 was increased (P<0.05) by l-theanine. From days 15 to 28, l-theanine elevated cumulative BW gain (BWG) and cumulative feed intake (FI), and decreased feed to gain ratio. From days 1 to 28, l-theanine elevated (P<0.05) cumulative BWG and cumulative FI. l-theanine elevated (P<0.05) the relative weight of bursa of Fabricus (day 14), thymus (day 14), spleen (day 28) and liver (day 28). On day 28, l-theanine decreased (P<0.05) serum glucose, uric acid, triacylglycerol, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, insulin, interleukin-2 (IL-2) and IL-6 contents, and elevated (P<0.05) serum total protein, globulin (GLB), immune globulin A (IgA) and IgG contents, but only serum insulin, interferon-γ, tumor necrosis factor-α and IL-6 contents was decreased (P<0.05) and serum GLB and IgM content was elevated (P<0.05) by l-theanine on day 14. On day 14, l-theanine decreased (P<0.05) jejunum crypt depth, and elevated (P<0.05) jejunum villus height, villus height to crypt depth ratio (V/C), goblet cell number and total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD) activity. On day 28, l-theanine decreased (P<0.05) jejunum malondialdehyde content, and elevated (P<0.05) jejunum villus height, V/C, goblet cell number, and T-SOD, catalase and glutathione peroxidase activities. l-theanine levels caused quadratic effect on the growth performance, relative organ weight, serum parameters, jejunum morphology and antioxidant capacity. In conclusion, l-theanine can be used as a promising feed additive for ducks, and its optimal supplementation level was 600 to 900 mg/kg based on the current experimental condition.  相似文献

Polymorphic variants in the myostatin, prolactin, and D2 dopamine receptor genes were analyzed in Pushkin breed chickens (n = 231). The rs313744840 single nucleotide polymorphism was studied in the myostatin gene by means of the PCR–RFLP method. The cocks with different genotypes did not differ from each other by the live weight. Chickens with AA genotype were found to be significantly larger than their coevals with AG and GG genotypes at the age of 49 days (P < 0.01). Polymorphism based on the insertion–deletion of a small gene region (indel-polymorphism) was considered in the prolactin and D2 dopamine receptor genes. Differences by the prolactin gene were observed at 7 days of age. The cocks homozygous by the DD deletion were significantly larger than heterozygous ID coevals (P < 0.05). The II cocks significantly differed by the D2 dopamine receptor gene from heterozygous ID coevals by the live weight at 49 and 110 days. In chickens, II homozygotes by the mutation in the D2 dopamine receptor gene were larger than coevals at 7 days, while they had a lower live weight at 110 days (P < 0.05).  相似文献

The excessive accumulation of abdominal fat in broilers is an economic waste. Supplemental dietary L-arginine has been shown to reduce lipogenesis in broilers, but studies on this subject are still scarce. Two experiments were conducted in a 5 × 2 factorial design, with five L-arginine concentrations in diets (0, 3, 6, 9 and 12 g/kg) provided to male and female broilers, from 29 to 42 days of age, reared in boxes or cages, with six replicates of 23 broilers per box and six replicates of three broilers per cage, totalling 1560 broilers. Data on performance, carcass and cuts yield, abdominal fat deposition, chemical composition of the breast, lipid profile and liver enzyme activity were evaluated in experiment 1. In experiment 2, the balance and retention of nitrogen, metabolizability coefficients and metabolizable energy of feed were determined and the treatments were evaluated in six replicates of three broilers per cage, totalling 180 broilers. In both experiments, there was no interaction (P > 0.05) between L-arginine concentration in the diet and sex of the broilers for all parameters evaluated. Male broilers showed higher (P < 0.05) weight gain, noble cuts yield, levels of CP and mineral matter in the breast, better feed conversion (P < 0.05) and lower (P < 0.05) malic enzyme activity in the liver and abdominal fat deposition. On the other hand, regardless of sex, the increase in L-arginine concentration in the diet improved (P < 0.05) the feed conversion in addition to reducing (P < 0.05) serum levels of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, the malic enzyme activity in the liver and abdominal fat deposition. In conclusion, male broilers had better productive results than females. However, supplementing the diet of male or female broilers from 29 to 42 days of age with L-arginine at a concentration of 6.87 g/kg represents a nutritional strategy to improve feed conversion and reduce circulating triacylglycerol and cholesterol levels, NADPH synthesis by liver malic enzyme and abdominal fat deposition, without negatively affecting the carcass and noble cuts yield, the amount of nitrogen excreted by the broilers and the energy value of the feed.  相似文献

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are members of the cellular receptors that constitute a major component of the evolutionary conserved pattern recognition system (PRR). TLRs are expressed in a wide variety of tissues and cell types. In this study we compared the expression profiles of the chicken TLR1, TLR2 and TLR5 genes in a range of organs (lung, ovary, liver, thymus, duodenum, spleen and large intestine) in commercial Hy-Line (HL) and indigenous Green-legged Partridgelike (GP) chickens. The level of mRNA was determined with RT-qPCR using the TaqMan probes for target and reference (ACTB) genes. We determined that the tissue profiles differed with respect to each TLR and they were ranked as follows: spleen, lungs, large intestine (TLR1), large intestine, lungs, thymus/ovary (TLR2) and lungs, thymus, liver (TLR5). A differential expression between HL and GP chickens was determined for TLR1 and TLR5 genes in large intestine and thymus of HL (P?<?0.05) and GP (P?<?0.05) chickens. We conclude that the commercial chickens expressed higher levels of TLR1 mRNA in large intestine and TLR5 mRNA in thymus than indigenous chickens.  相似文献

The homeostasis dysfunctions caused by cold stress remain a threat to intestinal health, particularly for young broiler chickens. We hypothesized that adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) was involved in the regulation of cold stress on intestinal health. This study aimed to examine the effect of cold stress for 72 h on growth performance, serum biochemistry, intestinal barrier molecules, and AMPK in broilers. A total of 144 10-day-old male Arbor Acres broilers were subjected to temperature treatments (control 28 ± 1 °C vs cold stress 16 ± 1 °C) for 72 h. Growth performance was monitored, serum was collected for the analysis of physiological parameters, and jejunal mucosa was sampled for the determination of tight junction (TJ) proteins, heat shock proteins, and AMPK signaling molecules. Results showed that 72 h cold treatment reduced average BW gain and increased the feed conversion ratio of the broilers (P < 0.05). Cold stress for 72 h increased blood endotoxin, aspartate aminotransferase, glucose, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels (P < 0.05). Moreover, 72 h cold treatment up-regulated jejunal Occludin, zonula occludin 1, inducible nitric oxide synthase, heat shock factor 1, and AMPKα1 gene expression (P < 0.05) but had no obvious effect on total AMPK protein expression (P > 0.05). In conclusion, cold stress significantly reduced the growth performance of broiler chickens. The intestinal barrier function might be impaired, and enhanced bacterial translocation might occur. The unregulated gene expression of TJ proteins implied the remodeling of intestinal barrier. The change of AMPK suggested the possible relationship between intestinal energy metabolism and barrier function under cold stress.  相似文献

The influence of enzyme supplementation on performance and intestinal viscosity of male broiler chickens fed with diets containing high amount of wheat was examined in three experiments. In the first experiment, addition with an enzyme preparation including different cell wall degrading enzymes to diets containing 63 g kg−1 and 72 g kg−1 of wheat improved (P<0.05) feed conversion efficiency in the 72 g kg−1 wheat diet. In addition, intestinal viscosity of chickens fed with the 72 g kg−1 wheat diet was reduced (P<0.05). Weight gain and feed intake were not influenced by enzyme addition. In Experiments 2 and 3, the inclusion level of wheat in the diets was more than 80 g kg−1 and four different enzyme preparations were used (two xylanase preparations, two mixed preparations). Overall, a significant effect on performance and intestinal viscosity of chickens was obtained as a result of enzyme supplementation in both experiments. In the first 21 days, improvements (P<0.05) in weight gain and feed conversion efficiency were found to be on average 5% and 6% in Experiment 2 and 7% and 8% in Experiment 3, respectively. When weight gain and feed conversion efficiency were examined on a weekly basis it was shown that the significant response of enzyme addition was confined to the first 4 weeks. However, the effect of enzyme supplementation was still significant in the whole period from 21–42 days. Feed intake was not influenced by enzyme addition. The viscosity of intestinal content in both the jejunum and ileum was in general reduced (P<0.05) with enzyme supplementation, the xylanase preparations proving to be the most efficient. It was concluded that enzyme supplementation of wheat-based diets resulted in improved performance of broiler chickens, which was related to a concomitant reduction in intestinal viscosity. However, the response of enzyme supplementation was most pronounced in diets with a wheat content higher than 80 g kg−1.  相似文献

This paper analyses the effect of caponisation at 8 weeks on growth and on carcass and meat characteristics of Castellana Negra chickens slaughtered at 29 weeks. Caponisation did not result in weight improvements as compared with uncastrated birds. No changes were observed in the growth rate or in the parameters determining the point of inflection in the growth curve (sexual maturity). Regarding carcass characteristics, castration resulted in a wider breast angle and heavier pectoral muscles in caponised birds than in uncastrated birds, but with no differences in thigh and drumstick weight and length. Capon meat showed a higher fat content than that of cocks, making it juicier and less fibrous. No differences were found in fatty acid content (C 14:0, C 18:0, C 18:1 and C 18:2). Nor were there any differences in colour measurements, pH or water loss from the meat. While cocks' thighs + drumsticks were found to be tougher than their breasts, there were no such differences in capons because after castration, thigh + drumstick meat became more tender.  相似文献
