A study is made of the Z-pinch plasma expansion after the current is switched off. Measurements were carried out in experiments on the implosion of tungsten wire arrays in the Angara-5-1 facility. It is found experimentally that, at a distance of 2 m from the pinch, the ion velocity in the expanding Z-pinch plasma is about (2.5–4.0) × 107 cm/s, which substantially exceeds the thermal velocity of tungsten ions. A model describing the plasma expansion process is proposed that is based on the ambipolar acceleration mechanism. The results of numerical simulations are compared with the experimental data.  相似文献

Results are presented from the experimental studies and numerical simulations of the behavior of dust grains in the plasma of an inductive RF discharge. The experiments were carried out with neon at a pressure of 25–500 Pa and with 1.87-μm melamine formaldehyde grains. The discharge was excited by a ring inductor supplied from a generator operating at a 100-MHz frequency. The effective dust-grain interaction potential used in numerical simulations involved the spatial dependence of the grain charge on the plasma floating potential, grain-interaction anisotropy resulting from the focusing of the drift ion current by the negatively charged grains, and specific features of the shielding of the dust grains by the plasma electrons and ions recombining both in the plasma bulk and on the grain surface. The results of Monte Carlo simulations show that the dust grains form specific filament structures observed experimentally in the plasma of an inductive electrodeless discharge. __________ Translated from Fizika Plazmy, Vol. 26, No. 5, 2000, pp. 445–454. A method is developed for measurements of laser radiation scattering by wires and fibers in different types of imploding arrays in the initial stage of plasma production at discharge currents per wire of up to 2 kA for aluminum arrays and up to 8 kA for tungsten arrays. The experiments were carried out on the Angara-5-1 facility at a current density in the wires of 108 A/cm2 and current growth rate of ~1013 A/s. It is found that the indicatrix of laser radiation reflected from the wires (fibers) in cylindrical and conical arrays is modified at currents of 0.1–10 kA per wire (fiber). The experimental data on the reflection and scattering of laser radiation from wires and fibers are compared with the results of numerical simulations of their electric explosion in vacuum. It is proposed that the change in the reflection indicatrix of laser radiation is caused by the onset of thermal instabilities. The typical size of density and temperature inhomogeneities on the wire surface is in a range of 10–20 μm, which probably results in a transition from specular to diffuse reflection of laser radiation. A simultaneous abrupt (over 2–3 ns) reduction in the reflection intensity from several wires of an array indicates a homogeneous distribution of the discharge current over the irradiated wires. This closes the issue of the quality of the contact between the wires and the electrodes. The obtained experimental information is of considerable importance for the development of numerical codes for simulations of the implosion of wire arrays and the refinement of the wire parameters in the initial stage of plasma production.  相似文献

Results from experimental studies on the injection of high-energy neutral hydrogen beams into the plasma of the Globus-M spherical tokamak are reviewed. In the Introduction, the importance of these studies for implementing the controlled fusion research program and constructing the ITER tokamak is proved. Some problems related to the use of neutral beam injection in small and low-aspect-ratio tokamaks is analyzed. Results are presented from numerical simulations of the experiment by using the ASTRA transport code. It is shown that the use of neutral beam injection in the Globus-M tokamak ensures efficient ion heating and increases the plasma stored energy. The greater part of the review is devoted to the survey of experiments on the injection of 22-to 30-keV hydrogen and deuterium beams with a power of 0.4–0.8 MW into the plasma of the Globus-M spherical tokamak in a wide range of plasma currents and densities. The experimental results are analyzed and compared with the results of numerical simulations. The achievement of top plasma parameters is highlighted.  相似文献

The screening of the grain charge in a nonequilibrium plasma is studied with allowance for electron and ion fluxes to the grain surface and the bulk processes of production and loss of charged particles in an argon plasma. The objective of the paper is to investigate how the conversion of monatomic Ar+ ions into diatomic Ar2+ ions influences the screening of the dust grain charge in a plasma produced by an external gas ionization source. It is found that the conversion of positive ions leads to the onset of a second ion species in the plasma and, as a consequence, to a three-exponential screening of the grain charge; moreover, in a certain range of plasma parameters, all three screening constants are of the same order of magnitude. Analytical results are compared with the data of numerical simulations carried out based on the drift-diffusion approximation.  相似文献

The role of the Hall effect in experiments on the magnetic implosion of a D-T plasma in a cylindrical MTF/MAGO chamber fed from a helical explosive magnetic generator is investigated. The plasma dynamics is simulated numerically by a 2D code developed for solving the set of MHD equations with account of the Hall effect. In simulations, the generator, the break switch, and other units were replaced with LR circuits. It is shown that taking into account the Hall effect provides better agreement between numerical simulations and experimental data.  相似文献

The dependences of the radiation parameters of a plasma relativistic microwave amplifier on the external factors have been studied both experimentally and numerically. The calculated dependences are found to agree qualitatively with the measured ones. In contrast to experimental studies, numerical simulations make it possible to examine physical processes occurring inside the plasma waveguide. Good agreement between the measured and calculated dependences of the radiation parameters on the external factors shows that information provided by numerical simulations of the processes occurring inside the plasma waveguide can be considered quite reliable. The electromagnetic field structure and electron beam dynamics inside the plasma waveguide have been investigated.  相似文献

Results are presented from experimental and theoretical investigations of oscillatory and wave phenomena observed in the edge region in the U-3M torsatron during plasma creation and heating by an RF discharge in the ICR frequency range, accompanied by a transition to improved confinement. The main results are reported of diagnostic measurements of the spectral composition of oscillations, as well as of how the phase and amplitude relationships depend on time and on the RF power during its injection into the plasma. The measurements were carried out with electrostatic probes positioned at the edge of the plasma confinement region. The experimental results are interpreted using the kinetic theory of the electron-ion parametric instability of a plasma in the ion cyclotron frequency range and are compared with the results of numerical simulations.  相似文献

Results are presented from experimental studies and numerical simulations of three-dimensional dynamics of the plasma produced in the Angara-5-1 facility by the electrical implosion of conical wire arrays at currents of up to 3 MA. The arrays were made of 6-to 8-μm-diameter tungsten wires, the inclination angle of the generatrix with respect to the axis being from 15° to 42°. The results of two-dimensional MHD simulations are compared with experimental data. The formation dynamics of the plasma precursor is found to be different for cylindrical and conical arrays. As the cone angle increases, the duration of the X-ray pulse increases, while the height of the pinch radiating zone decreases.  相似文献

Results are presented from experimental studies of variations in the plasma parameters during the excitation of a multiaxis magnetic configuration by the induction current (up to 17 kA) in the basic magnetic configuration of the L-2M stellarator in the regime of ECR heating at a microwave power of ~200 kW (~1 MW m?3) and an average plasma density of (1–2) × 1019 m?3. The current direction was chosen to reduce the net rotational transform (the so-called “negative“ current). The current was high enough for the rotational transform to change its sign inside the plasma column. Computer simulations of the L-2M magnetic structure showed that the surface with a zero rotational transform is topologically unstable and gives rise to magnetic islands, i.e., to a multiaxis magnetic configuration. Magnetic measurements showed that, at negative currents above 10 kA, intense bursts of MHD oscillations with a clearly defined toroidal mode number n = 0 were observed in the frequency range of several kilohertz. Unfortunately, the experimental data are insufficient to draw the final conclusion on the transverse structure of these oscillations. The radial temperature profiles along the stellarator major radius in the equatorial plane were studied. It is found that the electron temperature decreases by a factor of 1.3 in the plasma core (r/a ≤ 0.6) and that the temperature jump is retained near the boundary. A change in turbulent fluctuations of the plasma density during the excitation of a negative current was studied using wave scattering diagnostics. It is found that the probability density function of the increments of fluctuations in the plasma core differs from a Gaussian distribution. The measured distribution is heavy-tailed and broadens in the presence of the current. It is found that the spectrum of turbulent fluctuations and their Doppler shift near the plasma boundary are nonuniform in the radial direction. This may be attributed to the shear of the poloidal velocity. The experimental results indicate that the formation of regions with a zero rotational transform in the plasma core somewhat intensifies plasma transport.  相似文献

Blood coagulation is triggered not only by surface tissue factor (TF) density but also by surface TF distribution. We investigated recognition of surface TF distribution patterns during blood coagulation and identified the underlying molecular mechanisms. For these investigations, we employed 1), an in vitro reaction-diffusion experimental model of coagulation; and 2), numerical simulations using a mathematical model of coagulation in a three-dimensional space. When TF was uniformly immobilized over the activating surface, the clotting initiation time in normal plasma increased from 4 min to >120 min, with a decrease in TF density from 100 to 0.7 pmol/m2. In contrast, surface-immobilized fibroblasts initiated clotting within 3–7 min, independently of fibroblast quantity and despite a change in average surface TF density from 0.5 to 130 pmol/m2. Experiments using factor V-, VII-, and VIII-deficient plasma and computer simulations demonstrated that different responses to these two TF distributions are caused by two positive feedback loops in the blood coagulation network: activation of the TF–VII complex by factor Xa, and activation of factor V by thrombin. This finding suggests a new role for these reactions: to supply sensitivity to local TF density during blood coagulation.  相似文献

Results are presented from time-resolved measurements of the soft X-ray emission in the 10-to 40-eV spectral range from the plasma of a pulsed capillary discharge in argon at current pulse amplitudes of up to 26 kA and a current rise time of ~1012 A/s. The experiments were carried out with 0.3-cm-diameter 15.7-cm-long ceramic capillaries filled with argon at a pressure of 0.25–0.5 Torr in the SIGNAL electrophysical facility. The experimental data are interpreted via computer simulations of the magnetohydrodynamics and level-by-level ion kinetics of an argon plasma. The results obtained indicate that soft X-ray laser pulses with a photon energy of 26.4 eV and duration of 1–2 ns are generated ≈33 ns after the beginning of the discharge current pulse.  相似文献

Results are presented from experimental studies of heat transfer in liquid-like plasma-dust structures. The experiments were performed with aluminum oxide grains ~3–5 μm in size in an RF discharge plasma. The heat capacity of the dust grains in plasma is measured. The thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of liquid-like plasma-dust structures are deduced under the assumption that the observed temperature gradients and the propagation of a thermal perturbation in a dusty plasma are related to heat conduction within the dust component. The measured temperature dependences of the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity are in qualitative agreement with the results of numerical simulations performed in the model of a simple single-atom liquid. It is shown that quantitative discrepancy between the experimental and numerical results is related to the energy loss of dust grains in their collisions with the neutral particles of the ambient gas.  相似文献

General features of the operation of microwave oscillators based on the Cherenkov resonance interaction of a high-current relativistic electron beam with a preformed plasma are considered. Emphasis is placed on the presence of longitudinal modes of the plasma-beam resonator that make it possible to tune the radiation frequency. Methods by which the radiation frequency can be varied severalfold continuously or in discrete controlled steps and the width of the spectrum of simultaneously generated frequencies can be changed substantially are described. The results of numerical simulations are compared with available experimental data.  相似文献

Results are presented from studies of small-scale plasma density fluctuations in the FT-2 tokamak by the method of far-forward CO2-laser collective scattering. The frequency and wavenumber spectra of fluctuations are measured using parallel k analysis at various positions of the scattering volume in the plane of the minor cross section of the torus. The data obtained are interpreted using numerical simulations. In phenomenological models, plasma fluctuations are substituted by a superposition of two-dimensional noninteracting cells with Gaussian profiles. A comparison of the calculated and experimental spectra shows that plasma fluctuations should be described based on the concept of strong microturbulence. The poloidal rotation velocity and the characteristic scale length of the scattering fluctuations, as well as the radial position of the region where they are located, are determined. The diffusion coefficient of the cells introduced in the model turns out to be close to the thermal diffusivity determined from the electron energy balance in the ohmic phase of the discharge.  相似文献

A relatively simple model of transport process in stellarators that was proposed earlier by the author on the basis of neoclassical theory makes it possible to determine the density and temperature profiles of the plasma components, the ambipolar electric field profile, and the particle and energy lifetimes from the given device parameters and given particle and energy sources with allowance for anomalous losses. The results of numerical simulations carried out with this model for the L-2M, ATF, CHS, and LHD stellarators over broad ranges of plasma densities and absorbed powers showed that the plasma energy lifetimes in these devices coincide to within factors on the order of two with those found from empirical scalings. A specific model of anomalous losses was chosen for calculations. Results are presented from simulations with a more general form of the anomalous thermal conductivity. Namely, the thermal conductivity is chosen to be K j (a) N α T j β B 0 , where N(r) is the plasma density and T j (r) is the temperature of the jth plasma component (j = e, i). The parameters α, β, and γ are set equal to α = 1, β = 2, and γ = 1; α = 0.5, β = 2.5, and γ = 1; α = 1.5, β = 2, and γ = 2; α = 1, β = 2.5, and γ = 2; and α = 1.5, β = 2.5, and γ = 2. The simulations have been done for the L-2M and LHD stellarators. It is found that, in all the five models, the calculated energy lifetimes τ c are essentially independent of the functional form of the anomalous thermal conductivity and coincide to within a factor on the order of two with those following from the LHD scaling.  相似文献

The paper presents results of numerical simulations of the electron dynamics in the field of the azimuthal and longitudinal waves excited in the channel of a stationary plasma thruster (SPT). The simulations are based on the experimentally determined wave characteristics. The simulation results show that the azimuthal wave displayed as ionization instability enhances electron transport along the thruster channel. It is established that the electron transport rate in the azimuthal wave increases as compared to the rate of diffusion caused by electron scattering from neutral atoms in proportion to the ratio between the times of electron? neutral collisions responsible for ionization and elastic electron scattering, respectively. An expression governing the plasma conductivity is derived with allowance for electron interaction with the azimuthal wave. The Hall parameter, the electron component of the discharge current, and the electron heating power in the thruster channel are calculated for two model SPTs operating with krypton and xenon. The simulation results agree well with the results of experimental studies of these two SPTs.  相似文献

In experiments on the generation and electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) of plasma in the L-2M stellarator, non-Maxwellian two-slope soft X-ray (SXR) spectra were observed. The temperatures of the thermal and epithermal components of the spectra were measured as functions of the heating power and plasma density. A hypothesis based on the experimental results is suggested to explain the formation mechanism of two-slope SXR spectra in the ECRH experiments at the L-2M stellarator. The measured SXR spectra are compared with the results of numerical simulations.  相似文献
