An atmospheric-pressure dc discharge in air (i = 10–50 mA) with metal and liquid electrolyte electrodes was studied experimentally. An aqueous solution of sodium chloride (0.5 mol/L) was used as the cathode or anode. The electric field strength in the plasma and the cathode (anode) voltage drops were obtained from the measured dependences of the discharge voltage on the electrode gap length. The gas temperature was deduced from the spectral distribution of nitrogen emission in the band N2(C3Π u B3Π g , 0–2). The time dependences of the temperatures of the liquid electrolyte electrodes during the discharge and in its afterglow, as well as the evaporation rate of the solution, were determined experimentally. The contributions of ion bombardment and heat flux from the plasma to the heating of the liquid electrode and transfer of solvent (water) into the gas phase are discussed using the experimental data obtained.  相似文献

The parameters of a repetitive volume discharge in CF2Cl2 (CFC-12) and its mixtures with argon at pressures of P(CF2Cl2)≤0.4 kPa and P(Ar)≤1.2 kPa are studied. The discharge was ignited in an electrode system consisting of a spherical anode and a plane cathode by applying a dc voltage Uch≤1 kV to the anode. The electrical and optical characteristics of a volume discharge (such as the current-voltage characteristics; the plasma emission spectra; and the waveforms of the discharge voltage, the discharge current, and the total intensity of plasma emission) are investigated. It is found that, by shunting the discharge gap with a pulsed capacitor with a capacitance of C0≤3.5 nF, it is possible to control the amplitude and duration of the discharge current pulses, as well as the characteristics of the pulsed plasma emission. The increase in the capacitance C0 from 20 to 3500 pF leads to a significant increase in the amplitude and duration of the discharge current pulses, whereas the pulse repetition rate decreases from 70 to 3 kHz. The glow discharge exists in the form of a domain with a height of up to 3 cm and diameter of 0.5–3.0 cm. The results obtained can be used to design an untriggered repetitive germicidal lamp emitting in the Cl2(257/200 nm) and ArCl (175 nm) molecular bands and to develop plasmachemical methods for depositing amorphous fluorocarbon and chlorocarbon films.  相似文献

Results are presented from measurements of the temperature characteristics of subsonic CO2 plasma flows generated by a 100-kW induction plasmatron at the Institute for Problems of Mechanics, Russian Academy of Sciences. The atomic excitation temperature T a and the population temperature T e of the electronic states of C2 molecules (both averaged over the jet diameter) were measured from the absolute intensities of the atomic spectral lines and the spectrum of C2 molecules in different generation regimes at gas pressures of 25–140 hPa and anode supply powers of 29–72 kW. The longitudinal and radial profiles of the temperatures were determined for some of these regimes and compared to those obtained from numerical calculations of equilibrium induction plasma flows in the discharge channel. For some generation regimes, the dependences of the averaged (over the line of sight) rotational and vibrational temperatures (T r and T v) on the discharge parameters, as well as the radial profiles of these temperatures, were determined from the best fit of the measured and calculated spectra of C2 molecules (Swan bands). The self-absorption of molecular emission was observed at sufficiently high temperatures and gas pressures, and its influence on the measured values of the molecular temperatures T e, T v, and T r was examined.  相似文献

Results are presented from the study of the electrical and optical characteristics of a transverse RF discharge in Xe/Cl2 mixtures at pressures of p≤400 Pa. The working mixture was excited by a modulated RF discharge (f=1.76 MHz) with a transverse electrode configuration (L≤17 cm). The emission spectrum in the spectral range of 210–600 nm and the waveforms of the discharge current, discharge voltage, and plasma emission intensity were investigated. The UV emission power from the discharge was studied as a function of the pressure and composition of a Xe/Cl2 mixture. It is shown that a discharge in a xenon-chlorine mixture acts as planar excimer-halogen lamp operating in the spectral range of 220–450 nm, which contains a system of overlapping XeCl(D, B-X; B, C-A) and Cl2(D′-A′) bands. Transverse RF discharges in Xe/Cl2 mixtures can be used to create a wideband lamp with two 50-cm2 planar apertures and the low circulation rate of the working mixture.  相似文献

It was shown theoretically that the increase in the cathode emission current in a low-voltage cesium-hydrogen discharge to ≈10 A/cm2 leads to an increase in the electron temperature in the anode plasma to T e ≥ 1 eV. In this regime, the rate constant for the production of H? ions via dissociative electron attachment to vibrationally excited H2 molecules is close to its maximum value and the density of H? ions is maximal (about 1013 cm?3) in the anode plasma.  相似文献

The memory effect (the dependence of the dynamic breakdown voltage U b on the time interval τ between voltage pulses) in pulse-periodic discharges in pure argon and the Ar + 1%N2 mixture was studied experimentally. The discharge was ignited in a 2.8-cm-diameter tube with an interelectrode distance of 75 cm. The measurements were performed at gas pressures of P = 1, 2, and 5 Torr and discharge currents in a steady stage of the discharge of I = 20 and 56 mA. Breakdown was produced by applying positive-polarity voltage pulses, the time interval between pulses being in the range of τ = 0.5–40 ms. In this range of τ values, a local maximum (the anomalous memory effect) was observed in the dependence U b (τ). It is shown that addition of nitrogen to argon substantially narrows the range of τ values at which this effect takes place. To analyze the measurement results, the plasma parameters in a steady-state discharge (in both pure argon and the Ar + 1%N2 mixture) and its afterglow were calculated for the given experimental conditions. Analysis of the experimental data shows that the influence of the nitrogen admixture on the shape of the dependence U b (τ) is, to a large extent, caused by the change in the decay rate of the argon afterglow plasma in the presence of a nitrogen admixture.  相似文献

The parameters of the electrode region of an electrode microwave discharge in nitrogen are studied by emission spectroscopy. The radial and axial distributions of the intensities of the bands of the second (N2(C 3Π u B 3Π g )) and first (N2(B 3Π g A 3Σ u + )) positive systems of molecular nitrogen and the first negative system of nitrogen ions (N 2 + (B 2Σ u + X 2Σ g + )), the radial profiles of the electric field E and the electron density N e , and the absolute populations of the vibrational levels v C = 0–4 of the C 3Π u excited state of N2 and the vibrational level v Bi = 0 of the B 2Σ u + excited state of a molecular nitrogen ion are determined. The population temperature of the first vibrational level T V of the ground electronic state X 1Σ g + of N2 and the excitation temperature T C of the C 3Π u state in the electrode region of the discharge are measured. The radius of the spherical region and the spatially integrated plasma emission spectra are studied as functions of the incident microwave power and gas pressure. A method for determining the electron density and the microwave field strength from the plasma emission characteristics is described in detail.  相似文献

An unsteady discharge of a relativistic vacuum diode is studied analytically. The amplitude and rise time of the discharge current pulse are determined as functions of the input parameters of the problem. It is found that, in a nonrelativistic limit, the maximum attainable amplitude of the discharge current pulse is equal to JAlim = 9/4JCL, where JCL is the vacuum-diode limiting current prescribed by the 3/2 law. The parameters of the dipole moment of the layer formed above the grid anode are found in the nonrelativistic limit.  相似文献

In a single-barrier discharge with voltage sharpening and low gas consumption (up to 1 L/min), plane atmospheric pressure plasma jets with a width of up to 3 cm and length of up to 4 cm in air are formed in the slit geometry of the discharge zone. The energy, temperature, and spectral characteristics of the obtained jets have been measured. The radiation spectrum contains intense maxima corresponding to vibrational transitions of the second positive system of molecular nitrogen N2 (C3Π u B3Π g ) and comparatively weak transition lines of the first positive system of the N 2 + ion (B2Σ u + X2Σ g ). By an example of inactivation of the Staphylococcus aureus culture (strain ATCC 209), it is shown that plasma is a source of chemically active particles providing the inactivation of microorganisms.  相似文献

Results from experimental studies of implosion of nested wire and fiber arrays at currents of up to 4 МА at the Angara-5-1 facility are presented. Depending on the ratio between the radii of the inner and outer arrays, different modes of the plasma flow in the space between the inner and outer arrays were implemented: the sub-Alfvénic (V r < V А ) and super-Alfvénic (V r > V А ) modes and a mode with the formation of the transition shock wave (SW) region between the cascades. By varying the material of the outer array (tungsten wires or kapron fibers), it is shown that the plasma flow mode between the inner and outer arrays depends on the ratio between the plasma production rates ?in /?out in the inner and outer arrays. The obtained experimental results are compared with the results of one-dimensional MHD simulation of the plasma flow between the arrays. Stable implosion of the inner array plasma was observed in experiments with combined nested arrays consisting of a fiber outer array and a tungsten inner array. The growth rates of magnetic Rayleigh?Taylor (MRT) instability in the inner array plasma at different numbers of fibers in the outer array and different ratios between the radii of the inner and outer arrays are compared. Suppression of MRT instability during the implosion of the inner array plasma results in the formation of a stable compact Z-pinch and generation of a soft X-ray pulse. A possible scenario of interaction between the plasmas of the inner and outer arrays is offered. The stability of the inner array plasma in the stage of final compression depends on the character of interaction of plasma jets from the outer array with the magnetic field of the inner array.  相似文献

New experimental data on the implosion of plasma of nested kapron?tungsten arrays are obtained at the Angara-5-1 facility. The mode of plasma implosion is implemented in which a shock wave region forms in the space between the inner and outer arrays where a transition from the super-Alfvénic (V r > V A ) to sub-Alfvénic (V r < V A ) plasma flow takes place. Specific features of the formation and decay of the shock region are studied using laser shadow imaging and X-ray frame photography. The plasma density in the transition region is estimated. By comparing the experimental data with the results of simulations of quasi-steady implosion of a nested array with allowance for extended plasma production, the physical conditions are determined at which the implosion mode with the formation the shock region takes place. Stable compression of the plasma of the inner array was observed during the implosion of combined nested arrays with a fiber outer array and tungsten inner array. Suppression of magnetic Rayleigh-Taylor instability during the compression of the inner array plasma results in the formation of a compact radiating Z-pinch and generation of a soft X-ray pulse with a peak power of 4 TW and duration of about 5 ns.  相似文献

Results of experimental studies of the implosion of quasi-spherical wire (or metalized fiber) arrays are presented. The goal of the experiments was to achieve synchronous three-dimensional compression of the plasma produced in different regions of a quasi-spherical array into its geometrical center. To search for optimal synchronization conditions, quasi-spherical arrays with different initial profiles of the linear mass were used. The following dependences of the linear mass on the poloidal angle were used: m l (θ) ∝ sin–1θ and m l (θ) ∝ sin–2θ. The compression dynamics of such arrays was compared with that of quasi-spherical arrays without linear mass profiling, m l (θ) = const. To verify the experimental data, the spatiotemporal dynamics of plasma compression in quasi-spherical arrays was studied using various diagnostics. The experiments on three-dimensional implosion of quasi-spherical arrays made it possible to study how the frozen-in magnetic field of the discharge current penetrates into the array. By measuring the magnetic field in the plasma of a quasi-spherical array, information is obtained on the processes of plasma production and formation of plasma flows from the wire/fiber regions with and without an additionally deposited mass. It is found that penetration of the magnetic flux depends on the initial linear mass profile m l (θ) of the quasi-spherical array. From space-resolved spectral measurements and frame imaging of plasma X-ray emission, information is obtained on the dimensions and shape of the X-ray source formed during the implosion of a quasi-spherical array. The intensity of this source is estimated and compared with that of the Z-pinch formed during the implosion of a cylindrical array.  相似文献

On-line control over the plasma density in tokamaks (especially, in long-term discharges) requires reliable measurements of the averaged plasma density. For this purpose, a new method of density measurements—a pulsed time-of-flight plasma refractometry—was developed and tested in the T-11M tokamak. This method allows one to determine the averaged density from the measured time delay of nanosecond microwave pulses propagating through the plasma. For an O-wave, the measured time delay is proportional to the line-averaged density and is independent of the density profile (f?f p ) τok o \(\tfrac{1}{{f^2 }}\mathop \smallint \limits_l \) N(x dx. A similar formula is valid for an X-wave: τX = ≈ k x \(\tfrac{{f^2 + f_c^2 }}{{(f^2 - f_c^2 )^2 }}\mathop \smallint \limits_l \) N(x)dx. Here, f is the frequency of the probing wave, f p is the plasma frequency, l= 4 a is the path length for two-pass probing in the equatorial plane, a is the plasma minor radius, k O and k X are numerical factors, f c is the electron-cyclotron frequency at the axis of the plasma column, and f p ?f c , f. Measurements of the time delay provide the same information as plasma interferometry, though they do no employ the effect of interference. When the conditions f p ?f c , f are not satisfied, the measured time delay depends on the shape of the density profile. In this case, in order to determine the average density regardless of the density profile, it is necessary to perform simultaneous measurements at several probing frequencies in order to determine the average density. In ITER (Bt ~ 5T), a spectral window between the lower and upper cutoff frequencies in the range of 50–100 GHz can be used for pulsed time-of-flight X-wave refractometry. This appreciably simplifies the diagnostics and eliminates the problem of the first mirror. In this paper, the first results obtained in the FTU tokamak with a prototype of the ITER pulsed time-of-flight refractometer are presented. The geometry and layout of experiments similar to the planned ITER experiments are described. The density measured by pulsed time-of-flight refractometry is shown to agree well with the results obtained in FTU with a two-frequency scanning IR interferometer. The results obtained are analyzed, and the future experiments are discussed.  相似文献

MHD oscillations with m/n = 4/1 and 3/1 that arise at the periphery of the TUMAN-3M tokamak in the initial stage of a discharge are investigated. It is found that these oscillations lead to a significant modulation of the electron density n e , which is attributable to the accumulation of plasma within a magnetic island. Numerical simulations of the modulation structure made it possible to determine the radius of the resonant surface and the radial width of the island and to evaluate the characteristic density gradient in the island. The gradient was found to be ten times larger than that of the unperturbed profile of n e (r) near the resonant surface. This points to reduced plasma transport within the magnetic island.  相似文献

Plasma discharge is a novel disinfection and effectual inactivation approach to treat microorganisms in aqueous systems. Inactivation of Gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli) by generating high-frequency, high-voltage, oxygen (O2) injected and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) added discharge in water was achieved. The effect of H2O2 dose and oxygen injection rate on electrical characteristics of discharge and E. coli disinfection has been reported. Microbial log reduction dependent on H2O2 addition with O2 injection was observed. The time variation of the inactivation efficiency quantified by the log reduction of the initial E. coli population on the basis of optical density measurement was reported. The analysis of emission spectrum recorded after discharge occurrence illustrated the formation of oxidant species (OH?, H, and O). Interestingly, the results demonstrated that O2 injected and H2O2 added, underwater plasma discharge had fabulous impact on the E. coli sterilization. The oxygen injection notably reduced the voltage needed for generating breakdown in flowing water and escalated the power of discharge pulses. No impact of hydrogen peroxide addition on breakdown voltage was observed. A significant role of oxidant species in bacterial inactivation also has been identified. Furthermore the E. coli survivability in plasma treated water with oxygen injection and hydrogen peroxide addition drastically reduced to zero. The time course study also showed that the retardant effect on E. coli colony multiplication in plasma treated water was favorable, observed after long time. High-frequency underwater plasma discharge based biological applications is technically relevant and would act as baseline data for the development of novel antibacterial processing strategies.  相似文献

The paper describes the calculation data on the physical parameters of a reactor-stellarator, where the nonuniformities of the helical field are smaller than the toroidal magnetic field nonuniformities: εh < εt. Unlike the previous studies, where the ion-component transport coefficients had the collision frequency dependence proportional to ν1/2, this being equivalent to the εh > εt case, in the present calculations, these coefficients were assumed to be in proportion to the first power of the collision frequency, Di ∝ ν for νeff < 2ωE, and to Di ∝ ν?1 for the inverse inequality. Here, ωE is the rotation frequency of plasma in the radial electric field. As before, the plasma electrons corresponded to the mode of De ∝ ν?1. As initial parameters for numerical calculations, a reactor with R = 8 m, rp = 2 m, and B0 = 5 Т was taken. A numerical code was used to solve the set of equations that describes the plasma space?time behavior in the reactor-stellarator under the conditions of equal diffusion fluxes. The start of reactor operation in the mode of thermonuclear burning was provided by heating sources with a power of several tens of megawatts. Steady-state operating conditions of a self-sustained thermonuclear reaction were attained by maintaining the plasma density through DT fuel pellet injection into the plasma.  相似文献

The interaction of 1.07-μm laser radiation with plasma of a continuous optical discharge (COD) in xenon and argon at a pressure of p = 3–25 bar and temperature of T = 15 kK has been studied. The threshold power required to sustain COD is found to decrease with increasing gas pressure to P t < 30 W in xenon at p > 20 bar and to P t < 350 W in argon at p > 15 bar. This effect is explained by an increase in the coefficient of laser radiation absorption to 20?25 cm–1 in Xe and 1?2 cm–1 in Ar due to electronic transitions between the broadened excited atomic levels. The COD characteristics also depend on the laser beam refraction in plasma. This effect can be partially compensated by a tighter focusing of the laser beam. COD is applied as a broadband light source with a high spectral brightness.  相似文献

Nonquasineutral electron current filaments with the azimuthal magnetic field are considered that arise due to the generation of electron vorticity in the initial (dissipative) stage of evolution of a current-carrying plasma, when the Hall number is small (σB/en e c ? 1) because of the low values of the plasma conductivity and magnetic field strength. Equilibrium filamentary structures with both zero and nonzero net currents are considered. Structures with a zero net current type form on time scales of t < t sk = (r 0ω pe /c)2 t st, where t sk is the skin time, t st is the typical time of electron-ion collisions, and r 0 is the radius of the filament. It is shown that, in nonquasineutral filaments in which the current is carried by electrons drifting in the crossed electric (E r ) and magnetic (B θ) fields, ultrarelativistic electron beams on the typical charge-separation scale r B = B/(4πen e ) (the so-called magnetic Debye radius) can be generated. It is found that, for comparable electron currents, the characteristic electron energy in filaments with a nonzero net current is significantly lower than that in zero-net-current filaments that form on typical time scales of t < t sk. This is because, in the latter type of filaments, the oppositely directed electron currents repel one another; as a result, both the density and velocity of electrons increase near the filament axis, where the velocities of relativistic electrons are maximum. Filaments with a zero net current can emit X rays with photon energies ? ω up to 10 MeV. The electron velocity distributions in filaments, the X-ray emission spectra, and the total X-ray yield per unit filament length are calculated as functions of the current and the electron number density in the filament. Analytical estimates of the characteristic lifetime of a radiating filament and the typical size of the radiating region as functions of the plasma density are obtained. The results of calculations are compared with the available experimental data.  相似文献

The formation of a peaked bell-shaped profile of the electron density n e (r) in the T-11M tokamak (B t=1 T, R/a = 0.7/0.2 m, I p = 100 kA, t shot ≤ 300 ms, Li and C limiters) was observed in Li experiments carried out in the near-plateau collisionality regime (the collisionality parameter at one-half of the minor radius was v* ≥ 0.5) under the conditions of low hydrogen recycling and intense hydrogen influx from the plasma edge. It is well known that peaked n e (r) profiles are observed in collisionless regimes at v* values as low as 10?1–10?2 or in impurity-contaminated discharges, in which this effect can be attributed to the impurity accumulation on the plasma column axis. Moreover, a bell-shaped n e (r) profile in discharges with low n e can result from the ionization of hydrogen atoms at the column axis, where they arrive from the plasma edge due to cascade charge-exchange. In quasi-steady lithium discharges in T-11M, however, peaked n e (r) profiles were observed at a relatively high central electron density n e (0) and relatively high collision frequency, such that the influence of impurities on the n e (r) profile could be ignored (Z eff = 1.1±0.1). To explain this effect, one has to assume that the pinching of hydrogen ions in T-11M is anomalous. The lower estimate of the observed pinch velocity is 4 ± 1 m/s, which is three to five times higher than the velocity of the neoclassical (Ware) pinch, characteristic of these conditions. The work is devoted to the experimental study of this effect.  相似文献

Experimental studies of spatiotemporal characteristics of radiation from a negative corona operating in the Trichel-pulse mode in the point-to-sphere electrode geometry have revealed two emission zones. In addition to the well-known glow near the point electrode, there is also an anode glow, whose intensity depends substantially on the shape of the anode. It is found that the anode glow is delayed with respect to the beginning of the Trichel pulse by a time that depends on the gap length and gap voltage. The emission spectrum of the anode glow in the wavelength range 300–400 nm is identified as the spectrum of the second positive system of nitrogen (the C 3Π u -B 3Π g transition).  相似文献
