Six species of Hypselodoris and three species of Chromodoris axe described from the coast of East Africa. Three species of Hypselodoris and one species of Chromodoris are new species. Two species of Chromodoris from the tropical West Pacific are also described. The eleven species fall into three groups of similarly coloured species.
Hypselodoris nigrostriata and a new species of Hypselodoris are compared with H. infucata, H. festiva, H. obscura and two unnamed species from the literature. It is concluded that all these are distinct species.
H. nigrolineata and two new species, are compared with H. lineata and H. hilaris and all are considered distinct.
H. regina, Chromodoris quadricolor, C. africana, C. elisabethina, C. magnified and a new species of Chromodoris, are compared with C. westraliensis and two unnamed species from the literature. All these species are considered distinct.
All other names for forms falling into these three colour groups are considered synonyms of one or other of the above named species. Full synonymies are given. 相似文献

Six species of the genus Noumea are described including four new species. All species are yellow, and four have orange markings as well; one has a white mantle border and the last has red gills and rhinophores. Noumea flava has a widespread distribution in the Indo-West Pacific and two other species are known from the tropical Pacific. The other three species, including a yellow colour form of Noumea haliclona (Burn, 1957), are reported from southern Australia. Aspects of the reproductive system of some species of Noumea strongly indicate that the genus Verconia Pruvot-Fol, 1931 is closely related to that genus. 相似文献

The full anatomy of over fifty species of the Chromodorididae is described including the type species of all but one of the nominal genera. The holotype material of the type species of Ehrenberg's problematic genera Glossodoris, Actinodoris and Pterodoris is described. Sixteen genera are recognized within the family Chromodorididae including four new monotypic genera. Glossodoris is shown to be a senior synonym of Casella , not Chromodoris , and Ceratosoma and Verconia are shown to be members of the Chromodorididae. The separation of Cadlina, Tyrinna and Cadinella into a separate sub-family Cadlininae is considered unnecessary.
A large suite of characters including features of the external shape, mantle glands, gills, foregut, jaw-plates, radula and reproductive system are used to define the genera. A tentative phylogeny of the family is proposed. 相似文献

The genus Ceratosoma (Nudibranchia: Chromodorididae) is reviewed and seven species, including two new species, are recognized. Species of the genus are known only from the Indo-West Pacific and it is suggested that the external body shape is the most useful character in distinguishing species. 相似文献

Nine species of chromodorid nudibranchs are described including a new species of Durvilledoris and a new species of Noumea. The Noumea purpurea colour group consists of five species with a pink, purple or reddish-purple background and a median white line, sometimes broken. The Chromodoris decora colour group also has white longitudinal lines with a pinkish background colour and usually an orange border. A non-chromodorid juvenile, probably a species of Hexabranchus , is compared with the species of the C. decora colour group. 相似文献

Aim To provide evidence suggesting the existence of a dynamic system of extinction and replacement. Location The Indo-West Pacific Ocean. Methods Utilization of species distribution patterns produced by detailed systematic works. Results The distribution patterns appear to suggest a sequence of events that is consistent with the centre of origin hypothesis. The East Indies centre is considered to operate according to the centrifugal speciation model. Main conclusions Disjunct patterns appear to have originated in the East Indies and spread out from there. In cases where the vacated area is occupied by a sibling species, competitive (sympatric) speciation may have occurred. Over time the extinction pattern will gradually extend outward until it is played out among small populations far from their centre of origin 相似文献

Eight aeolid opisthobranch molluscs of the subfamilies Facelininae, Favorininae, and Herviellinae are reported from Tanzanian waters, and two species from Northwestern India. New records from Queensland, Australia greatly extend the range of two species reported from Tanzania. Phidiana militaris (Alder & Hancock) and P. indica (Bergh) are shown to be distinct and a species from New Zealand, originally identified as P. militaris , is shown to be new. P. bourailli (Risbec), previously reported only from New Caledonia, is described from Tanzania, as is a new species of Phidiana. Favorinus japonicus Baba is reported from Tanzania, the first published record outside Japan, a new species of Godiva is described from Tanzania and Queensland, and three new species of Sakuraeolis are described, one from India and two from Tanzania. A new species of Herviella is described from Tanzania. 相似文献

Antitropical distributions of continental shelf, Indo-West Pacific species are probably not due to transgression of the tropics during the glacial periods, isothermic submergence, island integration, rising Neogene temperatures, or the Mesozoic dispersal of fragments from a Pacific continental mass. Characteristics of common antitropical patterns, plus information from systematic works on a variety on a variety of animal and plant groups, indicate that the long discarded "relict theory" of Theel (1885) appears to best fit the evidence, for it provides a mechanism whereby antitropical distribution may be brought about. The relict theory is compatible with the concept that the East Indies part of the Indo-West Pacific has been functioning as a center of evolutionary origin. It suggests that antitropical and associated disjunct patterns are produced as an older species, that has spread out to occupy a broad range, loses ground and gradually becomes supplanted by a younger species that had subsequently evolved in the East Indies. As this process goes on, the older species becomes restricted to a few isolated localities on the fringe of its original range. These isolates are often found to the north and south of the equatorial region but may include relict populations at the western edge of the Indian Ocean. 相似文献

Abstract Perotrochus caledonicus n.sp. is described from the upper bathyal south of New Caledonia, an old area that has remained stable over the past few million years, and P. tangaroana n.sp. is described from the bathyal of Lau Ridge. These represent the first occurrence of living Pleurotomariidae in the South Pacific; other representatives of the family are restricted to Southeast Asian seas or the Atlantic. 相似文献

The genetic structure of 18 populations of Lumnitzera racemosa from the Indo-West Pacific, including South China, Malay Peninsula, Sri Lanka, and North Australia, was assessed by inter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers. Our results showed a relatively high level of genetic variation at the species level (P = 87.04%, He = 0.260). The value of Gst was 0.642, suggesting significant genetic differentiation among populations. At the population level, however, genetic diversity was low (P = 32.17%, He = 0.097). When populations were grouped according to geographic regions, i.e., South China Sea, the East Indian Ocean, and North Australia, it was inferred from AMOVA that more than half the total variation (55.37%) was accounted for by differentiation between regions. A UPGMA dendrogram based on genetic distance also revealed a deep split between populations from these regions, indicating that Malay Peninsula and the Indonesia archipelago may play an important part on the genetic differentiation in L. racemosa. The high degree of population differentiation between regions and low genetic variation within populations recorded here highlights the need for appropriate conservation measures for this species, both in terms of incorporating further populations into protected areas, and the restoration strategies for separate regions. 相似文献

A new genus of anascan lunulitiform bryozoan, Pseudolunularia . is introduced for two new species, P. enigma and P. unguis . It is inferred that live colonies both possess basal rhizoids and are supported and stabilized by elongate avicularian mandibles. The autozooids, brooding zooids and avicularia of both species bear a striking resemblance to a parallel pair of species belonging to the genus Lunularia, L. repandus and L. cupulus . 相似文献

Regional patterns of evolutionary turnover in Neogene coral reefs from the central Indo-West Pacific Ocean 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The Indo-Pacific is an area of intense ecological interest, not least because of the region’s rich biodiversity. Important
insights into the origins, evolutionary history, and maintenance of Indo-Pacific reef faunas depend upon the analysis of faunal
occurrences derived from detailed stratigraphic sections. We investigated Neogene origination and extinction patterns derived
from a combination of new coral occurrences and previously published records from the central Indo-West Pacific Ocean (cIWP,
Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Fiji). Two faunal turnover events were observed. In the first, an increase in generic richness
of Scleractinia from the cIWP during the middle Miocene (17–14 Ma) coincided with both large-scale sea level fluctuations
and the great Mid-Miocene collision event. We raise the hypothesis that Mid-Miocene origination was facilitated by habitat
and population fragmentation associated with tectonism and sea level fall. The second, subsequent, turnover event was characterized
by an overall lowering of generic diversity throughout the late Miocene and Pliocene (7–3 Ma), and was followed by a pronounced
pulse of extinction at the Pliocene–Pleistocene boundary (~2.6 Ma). With the exception of the onset of Pleistocene sea-level
cycles and the onset of northern hemisphere glaciation around 2.5 Ma, which might explain increased extinction during this
time interval, there are no tectonic, eustatic, climatic or oceanographic events that neatly coincide with this second episode
of Neogene coral taxonomic turnover. Our results reveal a total of 62 genera, including synonyms, from the Miocene to the
Pleistocene. Neither episode of turnover among coral genera is exactly coincident with turnover in the Atlantic thus regional
environmental change is found to drive Neogene reef dynamics. 相似文献

Indo-West Pacific patterns of genetic differentiation in the high-dispersal starfish Linckia laevigata 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Genetic variation in four natural populations of the starfish Linckia laevigata from the Indo-West Pacific was examined using restriction fragment analysis of a portion of the mtDNA including the control region. Digestion with seven restriction enzymes identified 47 haplotypes in a sample of 326 individuals. Samples collected from reef sites within each location were not significantly differentiated based on ΦST or spatial distribution of haplotypes, indicating that dispersal is high over short to moderate distances. Evidence of gene flow is further supported by the low divergence among haplotypes and the lack of any clear geographical structuring among different haplotypes in the gene phylogeny. However, analysis of molecular variance ( AMOVA ), ΦST and contingency χ2 analyses of the spatial distribution of haplotypes demonstrate the presence of significant broad scale population genetic structure among the four widespread locations examined. RFLP data are consistent with high gene flow between the Philippines and Western Australia and moderate gene flow between the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) and Fiji, but only limited gene flow between either the Philippines or Western Australia and either the GBR or Fiji. The presence of mtDNA structure contrasts with previous allozyme data which suggest that dispersal among widely separated locations is equivalent to dispersal among populations within the highly connected GBR studies. This discordance between patterns of gene flow inferred from these two markers cannot be fully accounted for by differences in effective population size for mtDNA. This might suggest that while mtDNA variation may represent contemporary patterns of gene flow, allozyme variation among populations is yet to reach equilibrium between drift and migration over the range surveyed. 相似文献
