Orienting responses by mink during aerial and underwater visual discrimination tests were most frequent when the grating lines subtended angles at the eye near the visual threshold angle. Factorial analysis showed that in air and in water at ranges from 10 to 90 cm most responses occurred at 30 cm discrimination distance and more occurred to marginally supra-threshold than to marginally sub-threshold stimuli. Between media, more responses occurred in air than in water. At longer ranges the mink oriented less readily than at 30 cm but if orienting occurred better discrimination followed than if the mink did not orient.  相似文献

The ability of mink to discriminate the direction of a fast, horizontally moving spot of light was investigated in air and underwater, over a range of stimulus radiant intensities (25–58×104 μWsteradian?1) and using discrimination distances from 10 cm to 50 cm. Threshold results indicated broadly equivalent motion preception capability in air and underwater, until low stimulus radiant intensity became limiting, when a more marked decline in perceptual ability underwater became apparent. The effect of changing discrimination distance was investigated in terms of the concomitant change in stimulus duration and angular displacement. The results are discussed with reference to the observed predatory behaviour of mink.  相似文献

A rapid capillary electrophoresis procedure was developed for determining the anti-cancer components, camptothecins, in Nothapodytes foetida. The hydrophobic compound was extracted from plant tissue (ca. 1 mL of DMSO for 100 mg of dried plant tissue) with a water-miscible organic solvent, DMSO, at elevated temperature (60 degrees C). The extract was directly injected into the separation capillary (untreated fused silica, 34 cm in length, 75 microm i.d.) and analysed in MEKC mode (369 nm). Within 5 min of migration, camptothecins were successfully separated and quantified by adding organic modifiers to the running buffer (20% DMSO, 90 mm SDS in 10 mm borate buffer, pH 8.60). The linear dynamic range for camptothecin was from 5 to 400 microg/mL. This method was proven to be very suitable for monitoring the amount of camptothecins during the cultivation of the medicinal plant.  相似文献

Female mink pups were weaned at 6, 8 or 10 weeks of age and subjected to two different housing conditions. They were either kept together with a single male sibling in traditional mink cages (30x45x90 cm) or housed socially with all litter-mates in an alternative system consisting of three adjoining traditional cages (90x45x90 cm). All cages were supplied with nest boxes. At 5 months of age, the siblings were removed leaving the females socially isolated in the two different cage systems. Females' stereotypies were quantified by repeated scanning observations under the social housing conditions immediately before removal of the siblings, and again at the age of 7 and 9 months, when the animals had stayed solitary in the two systems for 2 and 4 months. Solitary females showed significantly more stereotypies than females under social housing conditions in both cage systems. Stereotypies were more frequent in the smaller traditional cages. Stereotypies declined from 7 to 9 months of age among solitary animals in traditional cages but not in alternative cages. Early-weaned solitary females in traditional cages showed more stereotypies than later-weaned animals, but only when measured at the age of 7 months. It is suggested that early weaning, individual housing and small cages promote the development of stereotypies in farmed mink. The influence of early weaning on stereotypies seems to decline with age, while effects related to individual housing and small cages appear to be more persistent.  相似文献

Fishing behaviour of the American mink ( Mustela vison Schreber) was investigated in the laboratory. Data were recorded using ciné film and tape recorded commentaries. Three species of prey were presented to mink, namely, carp ( Cyprinus curpio ), goldfish ( Carassius auratus ) and minnows ( Phoxinus phoxinus ).
It was found to be necessary to train ranch-bred mink to enter water and catch fish; young mink appeared to be easier to train than adults. Mink spent 5–20 sec under water when fishing; prey had usually previously been located from an aerial vantage point. Predatory behaviour was highly organized sequentially whereas fish were more prone to indulge in unpredictable stratagems; the behaviour of mink and fish were highly correlated.
The mink's efficiency in catching fish was related to prey size (smaller individuals being more vulnerable to capture) and shoaling. Minnows, which form highly organized shoals, were less easily caught when present in large numbers; this was not true of a loosely shoaling species, the carp.
Of the three species of prey presented, vulnerability to capture took the form goldfish> carp> minnow; these differences, however, may have been influenced by the fish's previous experience of underwater predators.  相似文献

We have previously reported that extracellular cAMP induced a reversible shift, from apparent Mr = 40,000 to 43,000, in the electrophoretic mobility of a polypeptide identified by photoaffinity labeling with [32P]8-N3-cAMP as the cAMP receptor of Dictyostelium (Klein, P., Theibert, A., Fontana, D., and Devreotes, P. (1985) J. Biol. Chem. 260, 1757-1764). In this report, we examine the kinetics and concentration dependence of this stimulus-induced receptor modification. Prior to stimulation, 90% of the receptors migrated as the higher mobility form (Mr = 40,000) and 10% as the lower mobility form (Mr = 43,000). Following 15 min of persistent stimulation with 1 microM cAMP, the per cent of receptors migrating as the lower mobility form rose to 80%. This transition occurred with a half-time of 2.5 min. Removal of the stimulus initiated a return to the basal state which occurred with a half-time of about 6 min at 22 degrees C. No reversal occurred at 0 degrees C. Addition and removal of a 50 nM cAMP stimulus induced transitions with similar kinetics, but the final plateau value reached was only 40% lower mobility form. The stimulus concentration which induced 50% of the maximal transition from higher to lower mobility forms at steady state was 27 nM, similar to the KD for [3H]cAMP binding. Scatchard analysis of [3H]cAMP binding indicated that, although a 20% down-regulation occurs during cAMP stimulation, there is no significant difference in the affinities of the higher and lower mobility forms of the receptor. The unoccupied higher and lower mobility forms of the receptor, designated R and D, are considered to be in rapid equilibrium with liganded forms, designated RL and DL. The rate constants for interconversion of the receptor forms R (Formula: see text) D and RL (Formula: see text) DL were calculated from the kinetic data: k1 = 0.012, k-1 = 0.104, k2 = 0.222, and k-2 = 0.055. The interconversion steps are not at equilibrium, suggesting that an energy expenditure occurs during the receptor modification. The pattern of modulation of the cAMP-induced receptor modification suggests that it may be the biochemical mechanism of adaptation.  相似文献

The evolution of air-breathing organs (ABOs) is associated not only with hypoxic environments but also with activity. This investigation examines the effects of hypoxia and exercise on the partitioning of aquatic and aerial oxygen uptake in the Pacific tarpon. The two-species cosmopolitan genus Megalops is unique among teleosts in using swim bladder ABOs in the pelagic marine environment. Small fish (58-620 g) were swum at two sustainable speeds in a circulating flume respirometer in which dissolved oxygen was controlled. For fish swimming at 0.11 m s(-1) in normoxia (Po2 = 21 kPa), there was practically no air breathing, and gill oxygen uptake was 1.53 mL kg(-0.67) min(-1). Air breathing occurred at 0.5 breaths min(-1) in hypoxia (8 kPa) at this speed, when the gills and ABOs accounted for 0.71 and 0.57 mL kg(-0.67) min(-1), respectively. At 0.22 m s(-1) in normoxia, breathing occurred at 0.1 breaths min(-1), and gill and ABO oxygen uptake were 2.08 and 0.08 mL kg(-0.67) min(-1), respectively. In hypoxia and 0.22 m s(-1), breathing increased to 0.6 breaths min(-1), and gill and ABO oxygen uptake were 1.39 and 1.28 mL kg(-0.67) min(-1), respectively. Aquatic hypoxia was therefore the primary stimulus for air breathing under the limited conditions of this study, but exercise augmented oxygen uptake by the ABOs, particularly in hypoxic water.  相似文献

Aim Invasive alien species usually exhibit very high adaptation and rapid evolution in a new environment, but they often have low levels of genetic diversity (invasive species paradox). Genetic variation and population genetic structure of feral American mink, Neovison vison, in Poland was investigated to explain the invasion paradox and to assess current gene flow. Furthermore, the influence of mink farming on adaptation of the feral population was evaluated by comparing the genetic structure of feral and ranch mink. Location Samples from feral mink were collected in 11 study areas in northern and central Poland and from ranch mink at 10 farms distributed throughout the country. Methods A 373‐bp‐long mtDNA control region fragment was amplified from 276 feral and 166 ranch mink. Results Overall, 31 haplotypes, belonging to two groups from genetically diverse sources, were detected: 11 only in feral mink, 12 only in ranch mink and eight in both. The genetic differentiation of feral mink from the trapping sites was high, while that among ranch mink from various farms was moderate. There was no significant relationship between genetic and geographic distance. The number of trapping sites where given haplotypes occurred correlated with the number of farms with these haplotypes. The mink from two sites were the most divergent, both from all other feral mink and from ranch mink. Comparison of mtDNA and microsatellite differentiation suggests male‐biased dispersal in this species. Main conclusions American mink in Poland exhibit high genetic diversity and originate from different source populations of their native range. The process of colonization was triggered by numerous escapees from various farms and by immigrants from Belarus. The genetic structure of local feral mink populations was shaped by the founder effect and multiple introductions. The genomic admixture that occurred during mixing of different populations might have increased the fitness of individuals and accelerated the invasiveness of this species.  相似文献

Acid-base status is considered the major factor controlling renal NH4+ production from glutamine, with maximal values found in chronic acidosis. However, metabolic inhibitors have been shown to increase NH4+ production without acid-base change; the mechanism for this increase is unclear. Fluorocitrate was administered to dogs with chronic metabolic alkalosis. Following fluorocitrate total renal NH4+ production rose from 32 +/- 5 to 104 +/- 15 mumol/(min.100 mL glomerular filtration rate (GFR] (p less than 0.01) and glutamine extraction rose from 26 +/- 8 to 65 +/- 8 mumol/(min.100 mL GFR) (p less than 0.01). These values approximate maximal values found in chronic acidosis. Lactate utilization fell from 165 +/- 19 to 99 +/- 7 mumol/(min.100 mL GFR) following fluorocitrate (p less than 0.01). Citrate extraction fell to zero and alanine production rose from 27 +/- 4 to 46 +/- 7 mumol/(min.100 mL GFR) (p less than 0.01). Oxygen consumption remained unchanged following fluorocitrate, 584 +/- 29 vs. 549 +/- 29 mumol/(min.100 mL GFR). These results demonstrate that in the presence of metabolic inhibition in the kidney, ATP production remains constant. This is achieved by increased utilization of one substrate, glutamine, when the ATP production from other substrates is reduced. Thus the necessity to maintain constant ATP production appears to modulate renal NH4+ production.  相似文献

We study the cumulative effect of successive predator attacks on the disturbance of a prey aggregation using a modelling approach. Our model intends to represent fish schools attacked by both aerial and underwater predators. This individual-based model uses long-distance attraction and short-distance repulsion between prey, which leads to prey aggregation and swarming in the absence of predators. When intermediate-distance alignment is added to the model, the prey aggregation displays a cohesive displacement, i.e., schooling, instead of swarming. Including predators, i.e. with repulsion behaviour for prey to predators in the model, leads to flash expansion of the prey aggregation after a predator attack. When several predators attack successively, the prey aggregation dynamics is a succession of expanding-grouping-swarming/schooling phases. We quantify this dynamics by recording the changes in the simulated prey aggregation radius over time. This radius is computed as the longest distance of individual prey to the aggregation centroid, and it is assumed to increase along with prey disturbance. The prey aggregation radius generally increases during flash expansion, then decreases during grouping until reaching a constant lowest level during swarming/schooling. This general dynamics is modulated by several parameters: the frequency, direction (vertical vs. horizontal) and target (centroid of the prey aggregation vs. random prey) of predator attacks; the distance at which prey detect predators; the number of prey and predators. Our results suggest that both aerial and underwater predators are more efficient at disturbing fish schools by increasing their attack frequency at such level that the fish cannot return to swarming/schooling. We find that a mix between aerial and underwater predators is more efficient at disturbing a fish school than a single type of attack, suggesting that aerial and underwater foragers may gain mutual benefits in forming foraging groups.  相似文献

Drones (Apis mellifera ) were attracted to a lure scented with queen pheromone suspended at a height of 11–18m. An unscented test object, usually a black sphere, was lowered on a vertical string at a horizontal distance of 50 cm or 103 cm from the scented lure. Drones often made a rapid, direct, displacement from the scented lure to the test object. Drones responded to objects that subtended an angle as small as 0.41° which is less than the acceptance angle of a single ommatidium. We calculate that a drone can respond to a stimulus corresponding to a reduction in the light incident on one ommatidium at a time of 8%; the brevity of the stimulus on each ommatidium would seem to be a factor in the design of the eye.  相似文献

In a series of experiments designed to explore the processes underlying adaptation of the sense of flutter-vibration, vibrotactile threshold was measured on the pad of the index finger, using Békésy tracking. Unadapted thresholds were first measured, for a number of frequencies (4-90 Hz) and contactor sizes (1-8 mm diameter). As expected, these measurements indicated the presence of (1) a Pacinian system possessing spatial summation and increasing in sensitivity, as frequency was raised, at the rate of 12 dB/octave; and (2) a non-Pacinian system showing little spatial summation, and with a frequency characteristic matching that of the NP I mechanism of Bolanowski et al. (1988). These baseline data of Experiment 1 guided the selection of stimulus parameters for subsequent experiments, in which threshold for a test stimulus was measured before, during, and after periods of vibrotactile adaptation. In Experiment 2, test stimuli of 10 Hz and 50 Hz were combined factorially with 30-dB SL adapting stimuli of the same two frequencies. When the test stimulus was 10 Hz, the two adapting frequencies were equally effective in raising threshold; however, when the 50-Hz test stimulus was used, the 50-Hz adapting stimulus raised threshold by a greater amount than did the 10-Hz adapter. These results confirm on the finger the independence of adaptation in Pacinian and non-Pacinian channels, a result previously established on the thenar by other workers. For all four frequency combinations, threshold rose exponentially with a time constant of 1.5-2 min. In Experiment 3, an action spectrum was determined, showing the adapting amplitude needed at each of a series of frequencies to raise the threshold of a 10-Hz stimulus by 10 dB; this spectrum was essentially flat from 30 to 90 Hz. The results, taken in conjunction with what is known about rapidly adapting cutaneous mechanoreceptors, imply that the effectiveness of an adapting stimulus is not determined solely by the amount of activity it generates in first-order afferents.  相似文献

Two series of experiments were performed to assess the effects of stimulus velocity on human subjects' perception of the distance traversed by a moving tactile stimulus. In all experiments, constant-velocity stimuli were applied to the dorsal surface of the left forearm; velocities ranging between 1.0 and 256 cm/sec were used. In some experiments the stimuli moved from distal to proximal over the skin, and in others they moved from proximal to distal. The length of skin contacted by the moving stimulus was defined by a plate having an aperture of 4.0 × 0.5 cm.

In the first series of experiments, subjects were required to compare the distance traversed by a test stimulus delivered 2 sec after a standard stimulus, and also to report the on-locus and the off-locus of the brushing stimulus. In the second series of experiments, the subjects rated the perceived distance on the skin using a free-magnitude-estimation procedure. The data from both series of experiments defined the same relationship between stimulus velocity and perceived stimulus distance. More specifically, although the length of skin contacted by the stimulus was the same at all velocities, subjects' estimates of stimulus distance decreased with increasing stimulus velocity. In addition, the function relating estimates of stimulus distance to velocity was flat for velocities between 5 and 20 cm/sec, but possessed an appreciable negative slope at lower and higher velocities.

It is interesting that the plateau of the relationship between perceived stimulus distance and velocity occurred within the range of velocities that human subjects employ to scan textured surfaces; it also corresponded precisely with the range of stimulus velocities at which the directional sensitivity of somatosensory cortical neurons and human subjects is optimal.  相似文献

An attempt to train common toads (Bufo b. bufo) to make the turning movements associated with prey-catching in response to a tone (1000 Hz, 90 dB) was unsuccessful. However, some toads learned to discriminate food that had been made unpalatable from palatable food of identical appearance, when the former was accompanied by the auditory stimulus. By making the prey unpalatable flight behavior could be induced in toads presented with a housefly (Musca domestica). On the other hand, toads could be trained to exhibit prey-catching behavior when shown predator objects 30 cm wide and 60 cm high (at a distance of ca. 50 cm). The toads also learned to snap at motionless, unscented food in certain surroundings.  相似文献

貂源绿脓杆菌的分离鉴定及其致病性   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
为了揭示绿脓杆菌对水貂的致病性,本研究采用细菌分离培养方法、形态学观察、生化试验、药敏试验与16S rDNA测序等技术,对2013年在山东省诸城、文登与临沂采集的43份发病水貂肺组织进行了细菌分离鉴定。结果分离到的5株细菌均为绿脓杆菌(分别命名为F1、F5、F6、F8、F10),分离率为11.6%。所分离的5株绿脓杆菌之间的核酸同源性为 98.9 %~99.7 %; F5、F6、F8、F10与F1在一个大的分支上。用F1株对小鼠与水貂分别进行接种攻毒,建立绿脓杆菌对小鼠与水貂的致病性研究动物模型。F1在小鼠肺部含量较高,半数致死量(LD50)为 1.6×106CFU/mL,对小鼠有较强的致病力;F1对水貂的LD50为3.2×107CFU/mL,接种3.2×108CFU/mL菌液的水貂在接种后的20-44h内全部死亡,其他感染组的水貂仅表现一过性的精神不振、食欲稍有下降,这表明绿脓杆菌对水貂具有一定的致病力。  相似文献

Anemotaxis in adult larder beetles, Dermestes ater,was investigated using a locomotion compensator, to uncover the mechanism(s) by which beetles maintain a course direction relative to a wind stimulus. Compared to walking in still air, anemotactically orienting beetles walk with the following characteristics over 60-s periods: (1) reduced locomotor and turning rates, (2) sustained, relatively straight paths with course directions at various angles to the wind, and (3) an increased tendency to stop for brief periods. Differences in wind speed affect mainly path straightness, which increases positively with stimulus intensity. Beetles track the wind direction equally well moving up or downwind, and they are able to orient at angles either close to the wind or at more oblique angles. When the wind direction was shifted 90°, the beetles turned, usually over the short angle, to their previous course heading relative to the stimulus. Indvidual beetles exhibited preferred course directions over several trials within a period of 20 min. Each beetle regained its particular anemotactic angle after the 90° shift in the stimulus direction. Although the beetles paused in some trials, stopping was not required to reorient to the altered stimulus direction.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the changes of coronary flow (CF) and nitrite outflow under inhibition of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) by Nomega-nitro-L-arginine monomethyl ester (L-NAME) or lipoxygenase (LOX) induced by nordihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA) in isolated rat heart. The hearts of male Wistar albino rats (n=18, age 8 weeks, body mass 180-200 g) were retrograde perfused according to the Langendorff's technique at gradually increased constant coronary perfusion pressure (CPP) conditions (40-120 cm H2O) which induced flow-dependent nitric oxide (NO) release (nitrite outflow). The experiments were performed during control conditions, in the presence of NO synthesis inhibitor L-NAME (30 micromol/l) or nonspecific LOX inhibitor (NDGA, 0.1 mmol/l) which were administered separately or in combination. CF varied in autoregulatory range from 4.12+/-0.26 ml/min/g wt at 50 cm H2O to 5.22+/-0.26 ml/min/g wt at 90 cm H2O. In autoregulatory range, nitrite outflow varied from 2.05+/-0.17 nmol/min/g wt at 50 cm H2O to 2.52+/-0.21 nmol/min/g wt at 90 cm H2O and was strictly parallel with CPP/CF curve. The autoregulatory range of CF was significantly extended (40-100 cm H2O, 2.22+/-0.12 ml/min/g wt and 2.90+/-0.25 ml/min/g wt, respectively) under the influence of L-NAME. Hemodynamic effects were accompanied by significant decrease in nitrite outflow after L-NAME administration (0.56+/-0.11 nmol/min/g wt at 40 cm H2O to 1.45+/-0.14 nmol/min/g wt at 100 cm H2O). NDGA affected CF in the range of CPP 40-70 cm H2O only (from 42% at 50 cm H2O to 12% at 90 cm H2O, respectively) with no significant changes in nitrite outflow. When L-NAME was applied in combination with NDGA vs. NDGA only, CF was significantly reduced (from 34% at 50 cm H2O to 50% at 90 cm H2O, respectively) with parallel changes in nitrite outflow (from 40% at 50 cm H2O to 51% at 90 cm H2O, respectively). The results showed that CF and nitrite outflow could be decreased under L-NAME administration. Nonselective LOX inhibitor (NDGA) decreased control values of CF only at lower values of CPP but did not change nitrite outflow indicating antioxidant properties of NDGA. In addition, L-NAME decreased the effects induced by NDGA on CF and nitrite outflow indicating the role of NO.  相似文献

Monodelphis domestica (Marsupialia: Didelphidae) was used as a model animal to investigate and compare muscle adaptation to exercise training and cold exposure. The experimental treatment consisted of four groups of animals: either warm or cold acclimation temperature and with or without endurance exercise training. Maximal aerobic capacity during a running VO2max test in the warm-exercised or cold-exposed (with or without exercise) groups was about 130 mL O(2)/kg/min, significantly higher than the warm-acclimated controls at 113.5 mL O(2)/kg/min. Similarly, during an acute cold challenge (VO2summit), maximal aerobic capacity was higher in these three experimental groups at approximately 95 mL O(2)/kg/min compared with 80.4 mL O(2)/kg/min in warm-acclimated controls. Respiratory exchange ratio was significantly lower (0.89-0.68), whereas relative heart mass (0.52%-0.73%) and whole-body muscle mitochondrial volume density (2.59 to 3.04 cm(3)) were significantly higher following cold exposure. Chronic cold exposure was a stronger stimulus than endurance exercise training for tissue-specific adaptations. Although chronic cold exposure and endurance exercise are distinct challenges, physiological adaptations to each overlap such that the capacities for aerobic performance in response to both cold exposure and running are increased by either or both treatments.  相似文献

Non-neuronal acetylcholine (ACh) is expressed in epithelial, endothelial and immune cells. For example, the in vivo release of ACh from the human skin pretreated with botulinum toxin has recently been demonstrated. In the present experiments the effects of light (sunlight and solar radiation by a commercial UV-A applier) and of a tactile stimulus on the release of non-neuronal ACh were investigated. Release of ACh from the proximal and distal shin, i.e. anterior tibial region, was measured by dermal microdialysis in 20 min samples over a time period of at least 140 min. Control experiments were performed in a dark room throughout. In some experiments volunteers were exposed to sunshine (80-140 min) or the shin region was illuminated (80-95 min) by a commercial UV-A lamp (400 W at a distance of 50 cm). In control experiments ACh release between 20 and 80 min (B1) amounted to 118+/-32 pmol (n=17) and gradually declined between 80 and 140 min (B2) to 112+/-34 pmol, resulting in a B2/B1 ratio of 0.95. When the skin was exposed to sunlight ACh release increased from 205+/-58 pmol (B1) to 349+/-122 pmol resulting in a B2/B1 ratio of 1.70. UV-A radiation, however, had no significant effect on the B2/B1 ratio. When very smooth tactile stimuli were applied by a cotton wool tip for 20 min to the skin close to the microdialysis membranes in a dark room, ACh release was increased from 9+/-2 pmol/20 min to 52+/-36 (n=7). In conclusion, the in vivo release of ACh from the human skin appears to be regulated by external stimuli like sunlight and tactile stimuli.  相似文献
