Plants of Solanum tuberosum L. potato do not cold acclimate when exposed to low temperature such as 5°C, day/night. When ABA (45 M) was added to the culture medium, stem-cultured plantlets of S. tuberosum, cv. Red Pontiac, either grown at 20°C/15°C, day/night, or at 5°C, increased in cold hardiness from –2°C (killing temperature) to –4.5°C. The increase in cold hardiness could be inhibited in both temperature regimes if cycloheximide (70 M) was added to the culture medium at the inception of ABA treatment. Cycloheximide did not inhibit cold hardiness development, however, when it was added to the culture medium 3 days after ABA treatment. When pot-grown plants were foliar sprayed with mefluidide (50 M), ABA content increased from 10 nmol to 30 nmol g–1 dry weight and plants increased in cold hardiness from –2°C to about –3.5°C. The increases in free ABA and cold hardiness occurred only in plants grown at 20°C/15°C; neither ABA nor cold hardiness increased in plants grown at 5°C.The results suggest that an increase in ABA and a subsequent de novo synthesis of proteins are required for the development of cold hardiness in S. tuberosum regardless of temperature regime, and that the inability to synthesize ABA at low temperature, rather than protein synthesis, appears to be the reason why S. tuberosum does not cold acclimate.  相似文献

The reproductive phenology of Chondrus ocellatus and the effects of temperature and light on its growth were examined in Cheongsapo near Busan, Korea, from September 1994 to August 1995. The vegetative plants dominated over the year, with a peak occurrence in January. Gameto- and tetrasporophytes were most abundant in November and August. All vegetative and reproductive plants had a peak both in length and weight in October, when seawater temperature was highest (24°C). In laboratory culture, the maximum relative growth rate (RGR) of 2.94% day−1 was obtained at 20°C and 100 μmol photons m−2 s−1, whereas the lowest value was recorded at 25°C and 100 μmol photons m−2 s−1 in a 12: 12 h LD photoperiod regime. Among the three photoperiod regimes (8:16 h, 12:12 h, 16:8 h LD) tested, there was evidence of a higher RGR in the 12:12 h LD cycle. This result suggests that the growth and reproduction of C. ocellatus are correlated with the seawater temperature based on laboratory culture and field observations.  相似文献

The effects of different temperatures and relative humidities (RHs) were tested on various reproductive parameters of Ornithodoros turicata, an argasid tick that inhabits gopher tortoise burrows in Florida, USA. The pre-oviposition, oviposition and incubation periods of the ticks decreased as temperature increased. These periods were also affected by the RH. The number of eggs oviposited was affected significantly by the combined effect of temperature and RH. Fewer eggs were laid by ticks in the 24°C regimes and the 27°C/95%RH regime compared to those in the other temperature/RH groups. There was an inverse relationship between the number of eggs oviposited and the percentage of hatched larvae that was correlated with the temperature and RH. Ticks reared at 27°C/90%RH and 30°C/90%RH laid more eggs than those reared in the other combinations of temperature and humidity but fewer larvae hatched from these eggs. The reproductive fitness index (RFI) values were highest in females held in the 24°C groups and the 30°C/95%RH group, although significantly more larvae hatched at the lower temperatures. The optimum reproductive conditions for O. turicata under laboratory conditions appear to be 24°C and 90–95%RH. While mating occurred at all temperatures, none of the females laid eggs at 22°C. The ticks may move preferentially to low temperatures when not feeding to remain above the critical equilibrium humidity and/or below the critical metabolic level necessary for prolonged survival. However, most female ticks oviposited after 45 days when moved to 27°C/95%RH. Ornithodoros turicata females may have a limited capability to delay oviposition until an optimal microenvironment for egg deposition can be located in the burrow.  相似文献

Eggplants (Solanum melongena L. cv. Bonica) were grown in a glasshouse during summer under natural light with one unbranched shoot or one shoot with 3 to 4 branches and with or without fruit in quartz sand buffered and not buffered with 0.5% CaCO3 (w : v), respectively. Nutrient solutions supplied contained nitrate or ammonium as the sole nitrogen source. Compared with nutrient solutions containing nitrate (10 mM), solutions containing ammonium (10 mM) caused a decrease in net photosynthesis of eggplants during early stages of vegetative growth when grown in quartz sand not buffered with CaCO3. The decrease was not observed before leaves showed interveinal chlorosis. In contrast, net photosynthesis after bloom at first increased more rapidly in eggplants supplied with ammonium than with nitrate nitrogen. However, even in this case, net photosynthesis decreased four weeks later when ammonium nutrition was continued. The decrease was accompanied by epinasty and interveinal chlorosis on the lower leaves and later by severe wilting, leaf drop, stem lesions, and hampered growth of stems, roots, and fruits. These symptoms appeared later on plants not bearing fruits than on plants bearing fruits. If nutrient solutions containing increasing concentrations of ammonium (0.5–30 mM) were supplied after the time of first fruit ripening, shoot growth and set of later flowers and fruits were promoted. In contrast, vegetative growth and reproduction was only slightly affected by increasing the concentration of nitrate in the nutrient solutions. In quartz sand buffered with CaCO3 ammonium nutrition caused deleterious effects only under low light conditions (shade) and on young plants during rapid fruit growth. If eggplants were supplied with ammonium nitrogen before bloom, vegetative growth was promoted, and set of flowers and fruit occurred earlier than on plants supplied with nitrate. Furthermore, the number of flowers and fruit yield increased. These effects of ammonium nutrition were more pronounced when plants were grown with branched shoots than with unbranched shoots. The results indicate that vegetative and reproductive growth of eggplants may be manipulated without causing injury to the plants by supplying ammonium nitrogen as long as the age of the plants, carbohydrate reserves of the roots, quantity of ammonium nitrogen supplied, and pH of the growth medium are favourable. The role of bud competence in the determination of flowering seasonality was studied in three Citrus cultivars, Bearss lime (Citrus latifolia Tan.), Fino lemon (C. limon [L.] Burm. f.) and Owari satsuma (C. unshiu (Mak.) Marc.), which differ in their adaptation to hot climates and their propensity to produce off-season blooms. Potted plants were kept in a greenhouse under non-inductive conditions (minimum temperature higher than 20°C), and periodically the flowering response was determined of a group of trees exposed for 30 days to an inductive temperature regime (15/8°C). A seasonal change in bud competence was demonstrated, and both bud sprouting and flower formation were highest when the low temperature regime was imposed during February and March. During the summer months, the low temperature regime resulted in a small increase in bud sprouting as compared to non-chilled trees, but only vegetative buds developed and no flowers were formed. The influence of environmental factors on the determination of bud competence was further studied. No effect of photoperiod was found, but raising the minimum air temperature above 25°C during 60 days, eliminated bud competence in Owari satsuma. In Bearss lime trees, the buds reacquired the competence after 4 months at 25/20°C, a temperature regime that does not induce flower formation. The reacquisition of competence was much faster at a lower temperature (15/8°C). A consistent relationship between the flowering response and DNA methylation in buds could not be demonstrated in all cultivars.  相似文献

Culture experiments are described in which Plantago lanceolata L. was grown from seedling till flowering under steady state conditions of optimum or suboptimum nitrate nutrition. In the optimum treatment, plants had free access to nitrate. In two suboptimum treatments, nitrate was added with constant relative addition rates (RAR) of 0.18 or 0.10 d–1 during the phase of constant relative uptake rates (RUR) of the plants and then with RAR's that were reduced stepwise from 0.18 to 0.07 d–1 or 0.10 to 0.04 d–1 when nutrient absorption gradually decreased. Reduction of the RAR's was aimed at maintenance of a balance between RAR and RUR. External nitrate concentrations were measured to monitor the reductions. In the vegetative phase, the relative growth rate (RGR) and the root weight ratio (RWR) of P. lanceolata were constant. In the reproductive phase, RGR's were constant, but lower, and RWR's decreased. Concentrations of organic-N in leaves were stable during the experimental period while those of the peduncles were lower and decreased with time. The ratio of reproductive to vegetative weight increased linearly with time. A number of plant parameters varied with N supply. ei]Section editor: T W Rufty  相似文献

The timing of the transition from seed, seedlings and development into flowering is paramount importance in annual-type Zostera marina, because flowering is the first step of sexual reproduction. A majority of plants use environmental cues to regulate the transition to their developmental stages because plants must flower synchronously for successful outcrossing and must complete their sexual reproduction under favorable external conditions. The morphological characteristics (seeds and lateral shoot production, branch number, and inflorescence length) of reproductive shoots of Z. marina L. were examined in outdoor mesocosms to better understand the reproductive strategies of annual populations. Seeds in the germination experiment were divided into two groups: those exposed to cold (7 °C; vernalized group) and those left untreated (25-21 °C; non-vernalized group). All 600 seeds (300 from each group) were cultured for 2 months at 7, 10, 15, 20, and 25 °C in an indoor incubator. In the vernalized group, the germination rates were almost significantly higher than in the non-vernalized group. However, germination rates were not significantly affected by germination temperature. In outdoor mesocosms, production of vegetative shoots was observed in plants germinated at 15 and 20 °C in the vernalized group and at 10, 15 and 20 °C in the non-vernalized group. The highest number of vegetative shoots produced (35) was observed in plants germinated at 20 °C in the vernalized group, whereas seeds of either group failed to produce vegetative shoots when germinated at a low temperature (7 °C).In the flowering phase, the number of branches per shoot in the vernalized group was significantly higher than in the non-vernalized group. The total number of spadices on the 1st branches of plants in the vernalized group (germination at 20 °C) was significantly lower than that in the non-vernalized group at the same germination temperature. The total number of spadices per reproductive shoot in the vernalized group (germination at 10 °C) was also higher than in the non-vernalized group. Thus, both low temperature (vernalization) and seed germination temperature have implications for the sexual and asexual propagation of annual Z. marina populations.  相似文献

Two-year-old plants of Karwinskia humboldtiana Zucc. and Karwinskia parvifolia Rose grown from the seeds in greenhouse were transferred to the growth cabinet and cultivated for two months under different temperature regimes (35/20 °C - the summer temperature regime, SR, and 20/5 °C - the winter temperature regime, WR). These temperatures were similar to the temperature conditions in the natural areas of the species studied (Nuevo León, Mexico). The root respiration rate was higher in the plants cultivated under SR than in those under WR. Roots of K. parvifolia res faster in both temperature regimes than roots of K. humboldtiana. Starch content in roots was higher in the plan cultivated under SR, however, concentrations of the other investigated organic and inorganic compounds were higher in the plants cultivated under WR. In K. humboldtiana roots, higher concentration of reducing sugars, carbon and hydrogen were found than in K. parvifolia.  相似文献

The effect of day/night temperature regimes on stem elongation and on the content of endogenous gibberellins (GAs) in vegetatively propagated plants of Campanula isophylla cv. Hvit have been studied. Compared with a constant temperature regime at 18°C (18/18°C), stem and internode elongation was enhanced significantly by a combination of high day/low night temperature (21/15°C) and inhibited by an opposite regime (15/21°C). Gibberellins A1, A19, A44, A53, and A97 were identified as endogenous components in Campanula. (GA97 was earlier referred to as 2-OH-GA53.) Quantitative analysis of the endogenous GAs indicates that temperature regimes that stimulate elongation growth are accompanied by an increase in the level of GA1, GA19, and GA44. On the other hand, in plants grown under conditions that reduced stem elongation growth, there was an increased level of GA97.Abbreviations DIF difference between day temperature and night temperature - GA gibberellin - HPLC high performance liquid chromatography - GC-MS gas chromatography-mass chromatography - SPE solid phase extraction - TMS trimethylsilyl - MSTFA N-methyl-N-TMS-trifluoroacetamide - KRI Kovats retention index - SIM selected ion monitoring - D2 deuterated  相似文献

Soil salinity is an increasing problem, including in regions of the world where chickpea is cultivated. Salt sensitivity of chickpea was evaluated at both the vegetative and reproductive phase. Root-zone salinity treatments of 0, 20, 40 and 60 mM NaCl in aerated nutrient solution were applied to seedlings or to older plants at the time of flower bud initiation. Even the reputedly tolerant cultivar JG11 was sensitive to salinity. Plants exposed to 60 mM NaCl since seedlings, died by 52 d without producing any pods; at 40 mM NaCl plants died by 75 d with few pods formed; and at 20 mM NaCl plants had 78-82% dry mass of controls, with slightly higher flower numbers but 33% less pods. Shoot Cl exceeded shoot Na by 2-5 times in both the vegetative and reproductive phase, and these ions also entered the flowers. Conversion of flowers into pods was sensitive to NaCl. Pollen from salinized plants was viable, but addition of 40 mM NaCl to an in vitro medium severely reduced pollen germination and tube growth. Plants recovered when NaCl was removed at flower bud initiation, adding new vegetative growth and forming flowers, pods and seeds. Our results demonstrate that chickpea is sensitive to salinity at both the vegetative and reproductive phase, with pod formation being particularly sensitive. Thus, future evaluations of salt tolerance in chickpea need to be conducted at both the vegetative and reproductive stages.  相似文献

Changes in carbon isotope composition(13C) and leaf morphology associated withvegetative phase change were monitored in Metrosiderosexcelsa Sol. ex Gaertn. (family Myrtaceae). Plants of threeontogenetic states were used: juvenile seedlings, micropropagated plants in arejuvenated state, and reproductively mature plants bearing leaves with adultcharacteristics. The effects of temperature regime (32/24 °C,24/16 °C, and 16/8 °C day/night) and plantarchitecture (branched and single-stemmed plants) were studied in two separateexperiments. Although both juvenile and rejuvenated plants exhibited juvenileleaf morphology at the start of the experiments, there was no differencebetweenleaf 13C in these plants and that in adultplantsat this time (mean ca. –27%). Vegetative phase change occurred injuvenileand rejuvenated plants grown at 24/16 °C, and there was acorresponding increase in leaf 13C (from ca.–27% to –23%) in these two groups of plants. Leaf13C in adult plants remained relatively constant(ca. –26%) at 24/16 °C. There was little change in leaf13C in all plant states maintained at 32/24°C or 16/8 °C, and vegetative phase change didnot occur in juvenile and rejuvenated plants grown under these two temperatureregimes. Rejuvenated plants grown in a greenhouse also exhibited a progressivedevelopment of adult leaf morphology, accompanied by an increase in leaf13C, an effect that was more pronounced insingle-stemmed (from –26.4% to ca. –24%) than in branched plants. Itis suggested that increasing 13C in juvenile andrejuvenated plants undergoing phase change is a result of reduced sink strengthin single-stemmed plants, and to a lesser extent within each branch of branchedplants, causing reduced stomatal conductance and photosynthesis.  相似文献

The warm oligo-eurytherm diatomsRhizosolenia robusta Norman andRhizosolenia imbricata Brightwell were cultured to determine the temperature range for the best competitive position by growth. Comparison of their generation times with those of other diatoms indicate thatR. robusta reaches this position around 20 °C andR. imbricata above 25 °C. The temperature ranges for growth were 12 °C up to 28 °C forR. robusta and 12 °C to above 30 °C forR. imbricata. The use of both species as indicator species for warm water currents is discussed on account of their lower temperature limit. The cold oligo-eurytherm diatomRhizosolenia shrubsolei had a temperature range for growth of below –1.0 °C to 25 °C. Our experimental results demonstrate thatR. imbricata andR. shrubsolei can be considered separate species.  相似文献

Cabbage plants were grown in soil amended with Clandosan (CLA) prepared from crustacean chitin (0.3% w/w). The plants were maintained in constant temperature tanks set to 15° or 30°C, in soils naturally infested with cyst nematodeHeterodera schachtii, or inoculated with the root-knot nematode,Meloidogyne javanica, respectively. At 30°C, after the first month following inoculation, CLA caused an increase in top fresh weight of plants but no reduction in nematode—induced root galling was recorded. However, when fresh plants were planted, CLA induced a large reduction in gall formation and caused an increase in top fresh weight of nematode-inoculated plants. At 15°C, CLA significantly affected the plants only after 60 days: an increase in top fresh weight and a reduction in the number of eggs per cyst were recorded. Ammonium was not detected in soil after 30 days, at 30°C, whereas at 15°C, CLA-treated soil contained twice as much ammonium as non-treated soil. After 60 days, ammonium was not detected at all. After 30 days nitrate concentrations in soil attained higher values at 30°C than at 15°C, whereas after 60 days high levels were detected only at 15°C. At 30°C, CLA induced an increase in the number of fungi, chitinolytic bacteria, and total amount of bacteria; at 15°C, such an increase was detected only with the chitinolytic microorganisms.Contribution from the Agricultural Research Organization (ARO), Bet Dagan, Israel No. 2196-E, 1987 series.  相似文献

Many freshwater zooplankton species perform a diel vertical migration (DVM) and spend the day within the lower, colder hypolimnion of stratified lakes. Trade-offs that arise from this migration have already attracted much attention and the cold temperature in the hypolimnion is thought to be the main cost of this behaviour. In this study we additionally looked at the extra costs daphnids have from being exposed to a fluctuating temperature regime (cold during the day and warm during the night) which is less well studied until today. In our experiment Daphnia hyalina Leydig and Daphnia magna Straus either spent 24 h in constant warm water (19 °C), 24 h in constant cold water (12 °C), or spent 12 h in warm and 12 h in cold water in an alternating way (fluctuating temperature regime). We expected the values of the life history parameters of Daphnia in the fluctuating temperature regime to be exactly halfway between the values of the life history parameters in the warm and cold treatments because the daphnids spent exactly half of the time in warm water, and half of the time in cold water. Concordant with earlier studies our results showed that age at first reproduction and egg development time were reduced at higher temperatures. In the fluctuating temperature regime the values of both parameters were exactly halfway between the values at permanently warm and cold temperature regimes. In contrast, somatic growth was higher at higher temperatures but was lower in the fluctuating temperature regime than expected from the mean somatic growth rate. This suggests that a fluctuating temperature regime experienced by migrating daphnids in stratified lakes involves additional costs for the daphnids.  相似文献

Summary Developoment, growth, and survival of larvae and pupae of the red turnip beetle, Entomoscelis americana Brown, were studied in 10 constant and four alternating temperature regimes (10 to 32.5° C), in field-cages, and in natural populations in Manitoba. This beetle has a northtemperate distribution in North America. Larval and pupal development occurs in spring and normally is completed before the end of June. Growth and development occurred at all constant temperatures tested, but survival was low at the extreme temperatures. Therefore, the threshold and upper limit were near 10 and 32.5° C. The developmental times of the sexes did not differ and decreased with temperature, except possibly at 32.5° C. The average weight of adult females increased with temperature up to 32.5° C and those of males up to 25° C. Considering developmental rate, survival, adult weight, and incidence of malformed adults, the optimum temperature was estimated to be near 27.5° C.Development was accelerated significantly (6 to 9%) in alternating regimes with temperatures differing by 10° C, but not in regimes differing by 5 and 15° C. All alternating regimes increased adult weight, 5 to 17% for females and 2 to 10% for males. Field cage studies confirmed the increase in adult weight, but not the acceleration in development.A three-parameter normal function described accurately the relationship between developmental rate and constant temperature. A computer simulation model based on this equation estimated developmental times in field cages to within one to five days. For natural populations the model overestimated the developmental times by five to 16 days. The discrepancies between model estimates and observed developmental times in natural populations apparently were due to the elevation of larval and pupal body temperatures above air temperatures by behavioral thermoregulation. The elevation of body temperature was estimated to be equivalent to the addition of 5 to 6° C to the maximum daily air temperature. The adaptations and responses of this beetle to the cool spring temperatures of the north-temperate region are discussed.Contribution No. 1164, Agriculture Canada, Research Station, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada  相似文献

Summary The temperatures at which chlorophyll fluorescence yield is substantially increased and the temperatures at which the quantum yield for CO2 uptake is irreversibly inhibited were measured for three shortgrass prairie species. The experimental taxa include, a cool season species (Agropyron smithii), a warm season species (Bouteloua gracilis), and a species which grows throughout the cool and warm seasons (Carex stenophylla). Agropyron smithii exhibited lower high temperature damage thresholds (43°C in cool grown plants, 46°C in warm grown plants), relative to the other two species. Bouteloua gracilis exhibited the highest tolerance to high temperature, with threshold values being 44–49°C for cool grown plants and 53–55°C for warm grown plants. Carex stenophylla exhibited threshold values which were intermediate to the other two species (43–47°C for cool grown plants, and 51–53°C for warm grown plants). Seasonal patterns in the fluorescence rise temperatures of field grown plants indicated acclimation to increased temperatures in all three species. The results demonstrate a correlation between the high temperature thresholds for damage to the photosynthetic apparatus, and in situ seasonal phenology patterns for the three species.  相似文献

Inhibition of nitrate uptake by aluminium in maize   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Experiments with two maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids were conducted to determine (a) if the inhibition of nitrate uptake by aluminium involved a restriction in the induction (synthesis/assemblage) of nitrate transporters, and (b) if the magnitude of the inhibition was affected by the concurrent presence of ambient ammonium. At pH 4.5, the rate of nitrate uptake from 240 μM NH4NO3 was maximally inhibited by 100 μM aluminium, but there was little measurable effect on the rate of ammonium uptake. Presence of ambient aluminium did not eliminate the characteristic induction pattern of nitrate uptake upon first exposure of nitrogen-depleted seedlings to that ion. Removal of ambient aluminium after six hours of induction resulted in recovery within 30 minutes to rates of nitrate uptake that were similar to those of plants induced in absence of aluminium. Addition of aluminium to plants that had been induced in absence of aluminium rapidly restricted the rate of nitrate uptake to the level of plants that had been induced in the presence of aluminium. The data are interpreted as indicating that aluminium inhibited the activity of nitrate transporters to a greater extent than the induction of those transporters. When aluminium was added at initiation of induction, the effect of ambient ammonium on development of the inhibition by aluminium differed between the two hybrids. The responses indicate a complex interaction between the aluminium and ammonium components of high acidity soils in their influence on nitrate uptake. ei]{gnA C}{fnBorstlap}  相似文献

Development rates were determined for three pteromalid parasitoids of houseflies under constant and varying temperatures from 15 to 35°C.Muscidifurax raptorGirault and Sanders was the fastest developing species, with females completing development in 13.8 days at 32.5°C and 66.5 days at 15°C.Spalangia geminaBoucek females completed development in 20.8 days at 30.0°C and 161 days at 15.0°C, whereasS. cameroniPerkins females completed development in 20.6 days at 30.0°C and 155.5 days at 15.0°C. Male development times were 90.3% of those for femaleS. geminaand 92.7 and 88.6% of those for femaleS. cameroniandM. raptor, respectively. Parasitoid survival was very low at 35°C for all species and noSpalangiasurvived constant exposure to 15.0°C. Exposure to these lethal temperatures for shorter periods indicated that the parasitoids can tolerate them well under conditions more typical of the field. Development rates were modeled using biophysical and degree-day models and the models were tested for their ability to predict development under fluctuating conditions (24–36°C). Neither model was superior for all three species because of interspecific differences in the parasitoids' responses to high temperatures. Agreement between predicted and observed development times for all three species was achieved by small empirical adjustments of a key parameter in the biophysical model.  相似文献

Unelongated timothy (Phleum pratense L.) tillers high (H) andlow (L) in carbohydrate reserves and with (W) and without (WO)leaf blades were grown to early anthesis at 21/13 and 32/24{diaeresis}C day/night temperatures with an 18-h photoperiod.Time to inflorescence emergence and anthesis was enhanced anddry matter yields of all plant parts were lower in the warmthan cool regime. In both regimes, dry matter yields of leafblades, stems plus sheaths, total herbage, stubble, roots, andtotal plant were in the descending order of the HW, LW, HWO,and LWO treatments. Yield differences among treatments at anthesiswere all statistically significant (< 0.05), except for yieldsof stems plus sheaths of HWO and LW plants and of roots of HWand LW plants in the warm regime. Inflorescence dry matter yieldswere not affected as much as were those of vegetative parts. All primary shoots produced an inflorescence, except in theLWO treatment in the warm regime. In fact, LWO plants in thewarm regime barely remained alive. Total nonstructural carbohydrate(TNQ analysis of the stubble tissues at 7 days of growth showedthat percentage and content (g/pot) were in the descending orderof the HW, LW, HWO, and LWO treatments in both temperature regimes.Differences in content of TNC were maintained to the end ofthe experiment (early anthesis). Differences in percentage ofTNC disappeared so that there was no significance among treatmentsat anthesis, except for a low percentage in the LWO plants inthe warm regime. This emphasized the importance of content ratherthan percentage as a measure of reserve carbohydrate level inregrowth experiments. Initial level of carbohydrate reserves and leaf area both influencedrate of growth and dry matter yield. However, leaf area appearedto be somewhat more important than carbohydrate reserves inthis experiment.  相似文献

Summary Under an intermediate temperature regime (23° C/18° C; day/night), microsporogenesis in stamens of the ogu cytoplasmic male-sterile (CMS) line of Brassica napus terminated by the tetrad stage, although in some cases degeneration of the sporogenous tissue occurred prior to meiosis. In most cases the tetrads were collapsed and bounded by a sparse exine, but contained many organelles. Also, the tapetum in CMS anthers was abnormal and often highly vacuolated by the tetrad stage. Under low temperature conditions (18° C/15° C; day/night), neither microsporogenous nor tapetal tissues were observed. In the normal stamens, no differences were observed under different temperature regimes. In conjunction with the adjoining paper, this study demonstrates that temperature conditions strongly affect the cytological processes associated with microsporogenesis in the CMS anthers.  相似文献
