Within the Gavrovo–Tripolitza area (southern continental Greece), marine carbonate platforms existed from the Late Triassic to the Late Eocene. The Middle–Upper Eocene marine shallow-water carbonates of the Klokova Mountain represent remnants of the large volumes of sediment that were produced on a middle ramp sedimentary system which culminated in the Lower Oligocene terrigenous deposits. Facies analysis of Bartonian–Priabonian shallow-water carbonate successions and the integration with palaeoecological analysis are used to produce a detailed palaeoenvironmental model. In the proximal middle ramp, porcelaneous foraminiferal packstone facies is characterised by larger foraminifera such as Praturlonella and Spirolina. These forms thrived in a shallow-water setting with low turbidity, high-light intensity and low-substrate stability. The foraminiferal packstone facies, the thin coralline wacke–packstone facies and the rhodolith packstone facies deposited approximately in the same depth range adjacent to one another in the middle-ramp. Nummulitids (Nummulites, Assilina, Pellatispira, Heterostegina and Spiroclypeus) increase in abundance in the middle to distal mid-ramp together with the orthophragminids. Coralline algae, represented by six genera, are present in all facies. Rhodoliths occur in all facies but they show different shapes and growth forms. They develop laminar sub-ellipsoidal shapes in higher turbulence conditions on mobile sand substrates (foraminiferal packstones and rhodolith rudstones), whilst sub-discoidal shapes often bound by thin encrusting coralline plants in lower hydrodynamic settings. The distinctive characteristics of the palaeoecological middle-ramp gradient are an increase in dominance of melobesioids, a thinning of the encrusting coralline plants and a flattening of the larger benthic foraminiferal shells.  相似文献

The results of the study of the taxonomic composition of foraminifers from the Bashkirian deposits of the southern part of the Cis-Uralian Foredeep are presented. The material comes from deep boreholes drilled in the Akobinsk area (the eastern part of Orenburg Region). The characteristics of the foraminiferal assemblages of Plectostaffella bogdanovkensis–Semistaffella variabilis, Pseudostaffella antiqua, and Pseudostaffella praegorskyi−Staffellaeformes staffellaeformis zones are presented. Foraminifers are confined to the oolitic and bioclastic grainstones of the shallow-water shelf high-energy zone.  相似文献

Benthic foraminiferal assemblages belonging to a mixed carbonate–siliciclastic shelf succession of the Oxfordian (Upper Jurassic) in the Prebetic, southern Spain, were analyzed. The faunal data, obtained on thin sections of strongly lithified sediments, allowed the detailed differentiation of a foraminiferal morphogroups system to be applied to the interpretation of paleoenvironmental conditions. Eleven morphogroups were differentiated according to shell composition, general morphology, number of chambers and mode of coiling. Paleoenvironmental analysis combines these features with inferred life-style (epifaunal, shallow infaunal and deep infaunal) and feeding strategy (suspension-feeder, deposit-feeder, herbivores, etc.) of the foraminifera. Analogies and differences regarding previously established morphogroup systems could be outlined accordingly.

In the Prebetic Oxfordian, distribution trends of foraminiferal morphogroups allow for a comparison of mid to outer shelf environments occupying the South-Iberian paleomargin, indicating that nutrient supply was the most important factor controlling morphogroup development. The mid shelf settings are dominated by epifaunal active herbivores–phytodetritivores, in shallow to deep substrate position of the redox boundary. The outer shelf is dominated by agglutinated and infaunal detritivore-bacterial scavenger morphogroups revealing a deep substrate position of the redox boundary. Particularly favorable trophic conditions in mid shelf environments are related with higher phytodetritus input from more proximal and shallower shelf areas.  相似文献

During the Late Miocene, the marginal areas of the Mediterranean Basin were characterized by the development of mixed siliciclastic-carbonate ramps. This paper deals with a temperate siliciclastic-carbonate ramp (late Tortonian–early Messinian in age) which crops out in the Capo Vaticano area, Southern Apennines (Italy). Carbonate components are mainly represented by calcitic skeletal fragments of coralline red algae, bryozoans, bivalves, and larger foraminifera, whereas corals, brachiopods, echinoderms, and planktonic foraminifera are subordinate. In the studied ramp, the depositional geometries of the main unit, the ‘Sabbie gialle ad Heterostegina’, show a gradual steepening from low/middle (dip about 2–5°) to steep slope settings (up to 25°). The microfacies observations, the quantitative analyses of the main biogenic components as well as the rhodolith shapes and growth forms allowed the differentiation between the middle and the outer ramp depositional setting and the refining of the stratigraphic framework. The middle ramp is characterized by coralline red algal debris packstone facies often associated with larger foraminiferal floatstone/packstone facies, while the outer ramp is characterized by rhodolith floatstone/rudstone facies. These facies pass basinward into typical open-marine deposits (planktonic foraminiferal facies). The taxonomic composition of the coralline red algal assemblage points to a temperate paleoclimate and emphasizes the Miocene Mediterranean phytogeographic patterns. The absence of non-skeletal grains (ooids and green algae), the paucity of Porites patch reefs, the rare occurrence of primary marine cementation, all confirm that the studied ramp was poorly lithified within a warm–temperate setting. The flat depositional profile of the ramp can be related to the absence or paucity of primary marine carbonate cements.  相似文献

The northernmost representative of the genus Gregoryceras, G. boreale Mitta et Stupachenko, sp. nov., is described based on a holotype from the Mikhalenino section on the Unzha River (Kostroma Region). The new species comes from the lower part of the Tenuiserratum Zone (Zenaidae subzone), comparable to the tops of the Plicatilis Zone (Arkelli Subzone) of the Middle Oxfordian sub-Mediterranean scales.  相似文献

The foraminiferal genus Janischewskina of the family Janischewskinidae Reitlinger, 1996, which is widespread in Eurasia and plays an important role in stratigraphy of the Upper Viséan-Serpukhovian interval of the Lower Carboniferous (=Mississippian), is revised. The morphological characteristics of the genus and species were clarified and supplemented, details of the structure of the interseptal space and sutural apertures are clarified, and the stratigraphic and geographical distribution of the species is documented. A new foraminiferal species J. adtarusia Gibshman, Zaytseva and Stepanova, sp. nov. is described.  相似文献

A 128-centimeter sediment core of a forest lake in the Moscow Region, for which the recent zooplankton has been well studied, was analysed. The changes in the density and size of organisms in the core points to an important role of fish and interspecific competition in Cladocera and to a minor role of invertebrate predators in the historical development of the plankton. No substantial shifts in the lake trophy seem to have occurred during the last 600 years. A widely used technique of heating the sediment in a 10% KOH solution may account for 5–13-fold losses of planktonic cladocerans' remains.  相似文献

Two new species of flexible crinoids of the genus Cibolocrinus (Crinoidea, Flexibilia) from the Upper Carboniferous of the Moscow Region are described: C. kutasovi (Moscovian Stage, Podolskian Regional Substage) and C. gerassimovi (Gzhelian Stage, Dobryatinian Regional Substage). The first species, C. kutasovi, belongs to a group with low cone shaped cups that first appeared in the Moscow Basin and then spread to the Midcontinent of North America. In one specimen of C. gerassimovi the smallest infrabasal plate is situated in the A ray, which is not typical for flexible crinoids. A poorly preserved crown of Cibolocrinus sp. from the Upper Carboniferous (Gzhelian Stage) of the Darvaz Ridge (western Pamir, central Tajikistan) is also described. The described specimens of Cibolocrinus from the Moscow Region and the Darvaz Ridge are the first reliable specimens of this genus described from Europe and Asia.  相似文献

Ringing databases of the EURING Data Bank and the Hungarian Bird Ringing Centre were analysed in order to investigate the philopatry of the great reed warbler (Acrocephalus arundinaceus) in three European regions. The aim of the study was to find out if there are continent-scale geographic trends in philopatry with respect to the age of the birds. Three clusters were assigned according to their geographic positions: (i) southern part of Europe (Region 1: between 36°–43° latitudes), (ii) middle part of Europe (Region 2: between 43°–49° latitudes) and (iii) northern part of Europe, (Region 3: between 49°–56° latitudes). No significant differences were found between the natal and breeding philopatry in any Regions, except Region 3. The birds ringed as adults in Region 3 were less faithful to their breeding site than those of the other two regions. Natal philopatry of juveniles did not differ between Region 1 and Region 2, but both of them differed in this respect from Region 3. A method for choosing appropriate breeding periods in philopatry studies is also proposed.  相似文献

Summary Following a phase of predominantly siliciclastic sedimentation in the Early and Middle Jurassic, a large-scale, low-latitude carbonate depositional system was established in the northern part of the Tabas Block, part of the central-east Iranian microplate, during the Callovian and persisted until the latest Oxfordian/Early Kimmeridgian. Running parallel to the present eastern block margin, a NNW/SSE-trending carbonate platform developed in an area characterized by reduced subsidence rates (Shotori Swell). The growth of this rimmed, flat-topped barrier platform strongly influenced the Upper Jurassic facies pattern and sedimentary history of the Tabas Block. The platform sediments, represented by the predominantly fine-grained carbonates of the Esfandiar Limestone Formation, pass eastward into slope to basin sediments of the Qal'eh Dokhtar Limestone Formation (platform-derived allochthonites, microbialites, and peri-platform muds). Towards the west, they interfinger with bedded limestones and marlstones (Kamar-e-Mehdi Formation), which were deposited in an extensive shelf lagoon. In a N−S direction, the Esfandiar Platform can be traced for about 170 km, in an E-W direction, the platform extended for at least 35–40 km. The width of the eastern slope of the platform is estimated at 10–15 km, the width of the western shelf lagoon varied considerably (>20–80 km). During the Late Callovian to Middle Oxfordian, the Esfandiar Platform flourished under arid climatic conditions and supplied the slope and basinal areas with large amounts of carbonates (suspended peri-platform muds and gravitational sediments). Export pulses of platform material, e.g. ooids and aggregate grains, into the slope and basinal system are interpreted as highstand shedding related to relative sealevel variations. The high-productivity phase was terminated in the Late Oxfordian when the eastern platform areas drowned and homogeneous deep water marls of the Upper Oxfordian to Kimmeridgian Korond Formation onlapped both the Qal'eh Dokhtar Limestone Formation and the drowned Esfandiar Limestone Formation. Tectonic instability, probably caused by faulting at the margins of the Tabas Block in connection with rotational movements of the east-central Iranian block assemblage, was responsible for the partial drowning of the eastern platform areas. In some areas, relicts of the platform persisted to produce shallow-water sediments into the Kimmeridgian.  相似文献

A prolific foraminiferal assemblage comprising 51 species is reported from Jurassic sediments of the Chari Formation, Jumara Hills, Kutch, India. The assemblage is dominated by the families Vaginulinidae and Nodosariidae. Sixteen species are reported for the first time from the Indian region including one new species. The foraminiferal assemblage suggests a Callovian to Oxfordian age for the studied sequence. The depositional environment of the studied sequence is interpreted based on foraminiferal evidence combined with lithology and megafauna which indicates that the sediments of the Chari formation exposed at Jumara Hills were deposited in a shallow-water, near shore, environment with fluctuating shoreline in a tectonically unstable shelf zone. The Jumara Hills foraminiferal assemblage exhibits close affinity with certain other Jurassic assemblages of the Tethyan Realm and helped in drawing palaeogeographic conclusions, suggesting that during the Middle and Late Jurassic epochs Kutch had close sea connections with Central Arabia, Afghanistan and Rajasthan on the one hand and Somalia and Malagasy on the other.  相似文献

A new anobasicrinid genus and species, Parasciadiocrinus lancetospinosus gen. et sp. nov. (Crinoidea, Cladida), is described from the Upper Carboniferous of the Moscow Region. The new genus and Sciadiocrinus Moore et Plummer, 1940 together form a separate branch of anobasicrinids, which is similar to pirasocrinids through parallel evolution. The differences between these two groups are discussed in detail.  相似文献

A new flexible crinoid, Neotaxocrinus arendti gen. et sp. nov., from the Upper Carboniferous (Pennsylvanian) deposits of the Moscow Region is described. The new genus is the latest of the reliable representatives of taxocrinid flexibles and is characterized by the reduction in the number of interradial plates to one large plate and by the absence of interbrachial plates of a higher order, which is usually characteristic of Early Paleozoic forms.  相似文献

The Late Jurassic succession of Mount Rettenstein (central Northern Calcareous Alps, Austria) is unique in comparison to all other sections known in the Northern Calcareous Alps because it provides the oldest coexistence of radiolarite basin sedimentation with contemporaneous shallow-water carbonate intercalations. An up to 3.5-m-thick debris flow made up of shallow-water carbonate detritus with a radiolaritic matrix is overlain by thin (calcareous) radiolarite, followed by several hundreds of meters of shallow-water carbonates of the Plassen Formation. Benthic foraminifers (Labyrinthia mirabilis Weynschenk and Alveosepta aff. jaccardi) and the radiolarian associations indicate a depositional age of both the debris flow and the basal Plassen Formation around the boundary of Middle/Late Oxfordian resp. in the Late Oxfordian. This is as yet the first unambiguous evidence of Oxfordian shallow-water sedimentation in the Northern Calcareous Alps. This early neritic stage with the settlement of ooid bars and coral-stromatoporoid-reefs, evidenced by the debris flow resediments in siliceous basin sedimentation, is followed by the definite, rapid progradation of the actual Late Oxfordian/Kimmeridgian–Berriasian Plassen Carbonate Platform with its steep slope configuration. Assumably, this evolution was steered by a mixture of both global environmental and regional tectonic constraints.  相似文献

Middle-Upper Oxfordian assemblages of foraminifera in the Prebetic Zone (Betic Cordillera, SE Spain) were analysed at the genus level to determine their composition, relative abundance, diversity, and dominance, as well as the size of the specimens. A relationship has been established between lithofacies, palaeogeography and composition of foraminiferal assemblages, the former two also determining the stratigraphic record of these microfossil assemblages. Two assemblages of foraminifera serve to identify relatively distal and proximal areas in the Prebetic shelf. The distal assemblage is characterized by higher diversity, specimens of greater size, and more abundant planktic and agglutinated forms. Benthic forms include Ophthalmidium, Epistomina and colonies of encrusting foraminifera. The proximal assemblage shows lower diversity, lower abundance of planktic forms, Epistomina and encrusting nubeculariids, and a greater abundance of spirillinids and Reofax. On the whole, planktic foraminifera decrease upwards in the studied succession, which, together with decreasing nodularity, could be related to system tract conditions previously proposed for Oxfordian deposits in the southern palaeomargin of Iberia.  相似文献

Five cyrtocrinid crinoid taxa previously unknown from the epicratonic deposits of Poland, as well as associated millericrinids and isocrinids, are described. The studied materials were derived mainly from the Lower and Middle Oxfordian, but crinoids are also from uppermost Callovian and/or lowermost Oxfordian sediments of the Polish Jura Chain (southern Poland). The crinoids, preserved as more or less complete (e.g., basal circlets) cups, include Lonchocrinus dumortieri, Phyllocrinus belbekensis, Remisovicrinus polonicus, Remisovicrinus aff. polonicus, Tetracrinus moniliformis and Sclerocrinus sp. The occurrence of Remisovicrinus polonicus in the late Middle Oxfordian of the southern Poland is confirmed. Moreover, the present study extends the geographic range of all cyrtocrinid species studied and discusses their unusual environmental adaptations.  相似文献

Late Triassic foraminifers of Kotelnyi Island (New Siberian Islands) are studied. Four new lenticuline species (Lenticulina kotelnensis sp. nov., L. triassica sp. nov., L. septentrionalis sp. nov., and L. sakhaensis sp. nov.) are described. Their distribution in the Upper Triassic deposits of Kotelnyi Island is discussed.  相似文献

Species from the family Linoproductidae sensu str. from the Podolskian-Myachkovian deposits of the Moscow Region are revised and redescribed. The peculiarities of the arrangement of spines on the ventral valve are used as a basis for a new taxonomic structure. A new genus Linipalus, which appeared in the Podolskian time and was widespread in the Late Carboniferous and Early Permian, is established. Three new species of the genus Linispinus Lazarev, 2006, and one new species of the genus Linipalus gen. nov. are described.  相似文献
