Role of fine needle aspiration cytology in the diagnosis and management of Warthin’s tumour of the salivary glands Objective: Local excision surgical procedures and non‐surgical conservative management are considered alternatives to superficial parotidectomy in the treatment and management of Warthin’s tumour (WT). Such therapeutic alternatives demand accurate diagnosis. In order to determine whether fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is capable of rendering such a minimally invasive diagnosis, we evaluated its accuracy and diagnostic parameters in a large series of histologically proven cases of WT. Methods: A cytohistological study of 116 salivary tumours from 110 patients (four WT were bilateral) with a histological or cytological diagnosis of WT. Results: Histology confirmed the cytological diagnosis in 103 of 114 tumours (90.4%). Two tumours were incorrectly diagnosed on cytology as WT. In 11 cases of WT there was an erroneous or non‐representative cytological diagnosis. The sensitivity was 90.4%, and positive predictive value 98.1%. Regarding malignancy, there were three misdiagnoses. One tumour diagnosed as WT was a low‐grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma. Two cases considered ‘suspicious of squamous cell carcinoma’ corresponded to WT. After review, 81.3% of the cases of WT were considered typical and 18.7% non‐typical; all misdiagnoses were in the latter group. Cytological difficulties could be divided into three areas: (i) absence of one or more diagnostic components; (ii) ‘squamoid’ pattern; and (iii) mucinous metaplasia. Degenerated oncocytes were present in 65% of cases. Conclusions: FNAC offers the possibility of a reliable diagnosis of WT. Pathologists must pay attention to the squamous appearance of degenerated oncocytes. Cytology, when coupled with clinical and image findings, may permit conservative tumour management.  相似文献

Disentangling community patterns of nestedness and species co-occurrence   总被引:3,自引:1,他引:2
Werner Ulrich  Nicholas J. Gotelli 《Oikos》2007,116(12):2053-2061
Two opposing patterns of meta‐community organization are nestedness and negative species co‐occurrence. Both patterns can be quantified with metrics that are applied to presence‐absence matrices and tested with null model analysis. Previous meta‐analyses have given conflicting results, with the same set of matrices apparently showing high nestedness (Wright et al. 1998) and negative species co‐occurrence (Gotelli and McCabe 2002). We clarified the relationship between nestedness and co‐occurrence by creating random matrices, altering them systematically to increase or decrease the degree of nestedness or co‐occurrence, and then testing the resulting patterns with null models. Species co‐occurrence is related to the degree of nestedness, but the sign of the relationship depends on how the test matrices were created. Low‐fill matrices created by simple, uniform sampling generate negative correlations between nestedness and co‐occurrence: negative species co‐occurrence is associated with disordered matrices. However, high‐fill matrices created by passive sampling generate the opposite pattern: negative species co‐occurrence is associated with highly nested matrices. The patterns depend on which index of species co‐occurrence is used, and they are not symmetric: systematic changes in the co‐occurrence structure of a matrix are only weakly associated with changes in the pattern of nestedness. In all analyses, the fixed‐fixed null model that preserves matrix row and column totals has lower type I and type II error probabilities than an equiprobable null model that relaxes row and column totals. The latter model is part of the popular nestedness temperature calculator, which detects nestedness too frequently in random matrices (type I statistical error). When compared to a valid null model, a matrix with negative species co‐occurrence may be either highly nested or disordered, depending on the biological processes that determine row totals (number of species occurrences) and column totals (number of species per site).  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine the observer variability in reporting fibroadenoma of the breast by fine needle aspiration (FNA) and to review the cytomorphological features of the lesion with cytohistological correlation. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of FNA smears from 110 cases diagnosed as fibroadenoma of which surgical pathology follow-up was available in 33. Two pathologists were asked to categorize smears from 67 cases of breast lesions while blinded to the clinical finding as fibroadenoma, epithelial hyperplasia (usual and atypical) and malignant. All fibroadenoma (33) and cancer (15) cases were biopsy-proven. The same set of slides was re-circulated to one of the pathologists, and his first and second round results were compared. RESULTS: Pre-review cytohistological correlation was attained in 32 of 33 cases of fibroadenoma (97%). The overall agreement between the two observers was 87% [Kappa = 0.74, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.72-0.76]. Cytohistological correlation was achieved in 26 of 33 (79%) cases. Intra-observer agreement was 91% (Kappa = 0.82, 95% CI 0.89-0.93) with cytohistological correlation in 29 of 33 (87%) cases. Causes of diagnostic errors included marked dissociation, pleomorphism, poorly cellular smears from hyalinized fibrodenoma, lacational changes and apocrine metaplasia with cystic changes. Multinucleated giant cells were frequently encountered in FNA smears from fibroadenoma (31.8%), but in none of the lumpectomy specimens. Their histiocytic nature was suggested by immunohistochemistry. CONCLUSION: FNA was a highly sensitive method for the diagnosis of fibroadenoma. Current cytological criteria were reliable and gave high inter- and intra-observer reproducibility.  相似文献

S. Samanta, P. Dey and R. Nijhawan The role of micronucleus scoring in fine needle aspirates of ductal carcinoma of the breast Aims and objectives: Micronucleus (MN) scoring was carried out in benign (fibroadenoma) and malignant (infiltrating ductal carcinoma) breast lesions to evaluate the role of MN as a biomarker in breast carcinomas. We also compared MN scores among different cytological grades of breast carcinoma. Materials and methods: A total of 31 archival cases of fibroadenoma (FA) and 40 cases of infiltrating ductal carcinoma (IDC) were selected. The best May‐Grünwald–Giemsa (MGG) stained fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) smear of each case was selected. The MN scoring was carried out independently by two observers on 1000 epithelial cells in oil immersion magnification (100× objective). The MN scores in FA and IDC were compared. The IDC cases were graded and the MN scores in different cytological grades of IDC were compared. Results: The mean MN scores (± standard deviation) in FA and IDC were 0.6 (± 1.1) and 13.6 (± 12.8), respectively, which were significantly different (P < 0.0001). There were seven grade 1, 13 grade 2, and 20 grade 3 IDCs. The mean MN scores (± standard deviation) of grade 1, 2 and 3 IDC were 4.3 (± 2.3), 11.95 (± 9.2) and 21.1 (± 16.7), respectively. An analysis of variance (anova ) test showed a significant difference in MN score between all the grades of IDC (P < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference between fibroadenoma and grade 1 IDC. The Pearson’s correlation coefficient showed positive correlations between MN scoring in the different grades of IDC. Conclusions: MN scoring on routinely stained smears of IDCs was significantly higher than in fibroadenoma and was relatively easy, reliable and reproducible. As MN scoring of grade 1 IDC was similar to fibroadenoma, a larger study should be conducted to compare grade 1 IDC with other benign breast lesions.  相似文献

Questions: Are liana–host interactions structured at the community level? Do liana–host interactions differ between species, growth form guilds or habitats? Location: Otari‐Wilton's Bush, on the southern tip of North Island, New Zealand. The forest contains 75 ha of mature and regenerating conifer–broadleaf forest. Methods: Nine liana species were quantified among 217 trees to test for negative co‐occurrence patterns. We also conducted additional analyses within and among compartments embedded in the community‐level matrix. Liana and host abundance distributions were assessed across two contrasting habitats. Results: Community‐level analyses revealed negative co‐occurrence patterns. Positive, neutral and negative co‐occurrence patterns were found among compartments within the community‐level matrix. Host species compartments were consistent with randomized expectations, while positive co‐occurrence patterns were found within the host species matrix. Negative co‐occurrence patterns were found inconsistently among lianas that share the same region of host space, and those that do not. Conclusions: Overall, results indicate the liana community is structured non‐randomly. Liana–host interactions appear to follow an opportunistic growth strategy and interactions are due mostly to habitat partitioning.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Tissue counter analysis is an image analysis tool designed for the detection of structures in complex images at the macroscopic or microscopic scale. As a basic principle, small square or circular measuring masks are randomly placed across the image and image analysis parameters are obtained for each mask. Based on learning sets, statistical classification procedures are generated which facilitate an automated classification of new data sets. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the influence of the size and shape of the measuring masks as well as the importance of feature selection, statistical procedures and technical preparation of slides on the performance of tissue counter analysis in microscopic images. As main quality measure of the final classification procedure, the percentage of elements that were correctly classified was used. STUDY DESIGN: HE-stained slides of 25 primary cutaneous melanomas were evaluated by tissue counter analysis for the recognition of melanoma elements (section area occupied by tumour cells) in contrast to other tissue elements and background elements. Circular and square measuring masks, various subsets of image analysis features and classification and regression trees compared with linear discriminant analysis as statistical alternatives were used. The percentage of elements that were correctly classified by the various classification procedures was assessed. In order to evaluate the applicability to slides obtained from different laboratories, the best procedure was automatically applied in a test set of another 50 cases of primary melanoma derived from the same laboratory as the learning set and two test sets of 20 cases each derived from two different laboratories, and the measurements of melanoma area in these cases were compared with conventional assessment of vertical tumour thickness. RESULTS: Square measuring masks were slightly superior to circular masks, and larger masks (64 or 128 pixels in diameter) were superior to smaller masks (8 to 32 pixels in diameter). As far as the subsets of image analysis features were concerned, colour features were superior to densitometric and Haralick texture features. Statistical moments of the grey level distribution were of least significance. CART (classification and regression tree) analysis turned out to be superior to linear discriminant analysis. In the best setting, 95% of melanoma tissue elements were correctly recognized. Automated measurement of melanoma area in the independent test sets yielded a correlation of r=0.846 with vertical tumour thickness (p<0.001), similar to the relationship reported for manual measurements. The test sets obtained from different laboratories yielded comparable results. CONCLUSIONS: Large, square measuring masks, colour features and CART analysis provide a useful setting for the automated measurement of melanoma tissue in tissue counter analysis, which can also be used for slides derived from different laboratories.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relevance of nuclear morphometry in separating the categories of "fibroadenoma" and "fibroadenoma with atypia." STUDY DESIGN: Thirty consecutive breast lumps, on which a fine needle aspiration (FNA) diagnosis of fibroadenoma was followed by excision and histopathologic confirmation of the diagnosis, were included. Atypia on cytology was based on cell overlap, nuclear enlargement and cell dyscohesion. Nuclear morphometric comparison was carried out between the categories of fibroadenoma, fibroadenoma with atypia and grade 1 ductal carcinoma cases that formed part of an earlier study. The parameters employed were area, roundness, diameter, perimeter and grey level. RESULTS: Among the 30 cases of fibroadenoma reported on FNA, an additional component of atypia was noted in 5. On subsequent histopathology, atypia was not confirmed in any of the cases. On morphometric analysis, a significant difference was noted between fibroadenoma and fibroadenoma with atypia categories, as between fibroadenoma and grade 1 ductal carcinoma cases. However, no significant difference was noted between fibroadenoma with atypia and grade 1 ductal carcinoma cases. CONCLUSION: FNA assessment of atypia in cases of fibroadenoma is difficult. Even conventional nuclear morphometry, though supporting the initial impression of atypia, does not help with this assessment. Also, based on morphometry alone, there may be difficulty separating fibroadenomas with atypia and grade 1 ductal carcinomas. Larger studies, employing other morphometric parameters, such as chromatin texture and fractal dimension, may shed further light on the subject.  相似文献

The analysis of species co‐occurrence patterns continues to be a main pursuit of ecologists, primarily because the coexistence of species is fundamentally important in evaluating various theories, principles and concepts. Examples include community assembly, equilibrium versus non‐equilibrium organization of communities, resource partitioning and ecological character displacement, the local–regional species diversity relationship, and the metacommunity concept. Traditionally, co‐occurrence has been measured and tested at the level of an entire species presence–absence matrix wherein various algorithms are used to randomize matrices and produce statistical null distributions of metrics that quantify structure in the matrix. This approach implicitly recognizes a presence–absence matrix as having some real ecological identity (e.g. a set of species exhibiting nestedness among a set of islands) in addition to being a unit of statistical analysis. An emerging alternative is to test for non‐random co‐occurrence between paired species. The pairwise approach does not analyse matrix‐level structure and thus views a species pair as the fundamental unit of co‐occurrence. Inferring process from pattern is very difficult in analyses of co‐occurrence; however, the pairwise approach may make this task easier by simplifying the analysis and resulting inferences to associations between paired species.  相似文献

Question: Can spatial analytical techniques be used to extract quantitative measurements of vegetation communities from ground‐based permanent photo‐point images? Location: Mount Aspiring National Park, south‐western South Island, New Zealand. Methods: Sets of ground‐based photographs representing two contrasting vegetation types were selected to test two spatial analytical techniques. In the grid technique, a grid was superimposed onto the photographs and the frequency of species presence in each grid‐square was calculated to estimate species abundance/cover over the defined area. In the object‐oriented technique, the photographs were segmented into meaningful objects, based on the colour of the pixels and the textural patterns of the images, and the area occupied by an object in the image was used to derive species abundance/cover over the area. Results: Both techniques allow quick and easy classification of digital elements into ecologically relevant categories of vegetation components. The grid technique appeared more robust, being quick and efficient, accommodating all image types and providing presence/absence matrices for multivariate analysis. Fewer classes were identified using the object‐oriented technique, in particular for the forest interior site and for small individual plants such as Astelia spp. Conclusions: Both techniques showed potential for the objective quantitative analysis of long‐term vegetation monitoring of cover and changes of several component species, using repeat ground‐based photographs more specifically for grassland habitats. However, both rely to various degrees on manual classification. Corrective factors and strict protocols for taking the photographs are necessary to account for variation in view angles and to compute values more representative of absolute species abundance.  相似文献

Analysis of silver-stained proteins associated with nucleolar organiser regions (AgNORs) is proposed as a marker of cellular proliferation. This study describes the application of AgNORs and Ki67 in breast lesions. Sixty-one cases including fibroadenoma (FA), fibrocystic disease (FCD), ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and invasive carcinoma (IC) were studied by image analysis to evaluate quantitative changes in AgNORs in both Ki67-positive, and Ki67-negative smears. The Ki67 index was assessed. Morphometric features of cell nuclei and AgNORs were determined by digitized computer image analysis (Prodit 5.2). The growth fraction was 5.08 for FA, 5.71 for FCD, 16.75 for DCIS and 23.26 for IC. The mean nuclear area was significantly higher in malignant cells than those of fibroadenoma and fibrocystic disease. In Ki67-positive cells the total area, long axis and number of AgNORs increased progressively across disease groups. Eccentricity of AgNORs and AgNORs: nuclear area ratios were significantly increased in malignant breast lesion in comparison with benign lesion in Ki67 positive cells. In Ki67 negative cells, the highest value of AgNORs was observed in DCIS. The AgNORs: nuclear area ratio demonstrated a statistically significant trend across the disease groups. This study demonstrates that the growth fraction, mean nuclear area and selected AgNORs features have potential for differentiating benign from malignant breast tumours.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To study the discriminatory capacity of textural variables to classify the nuclei of breast tumor cells as benign or malignant, using a statistical approach. STUDY DESIGN: Image analysis techniques were used to automatically segment nuclei of cells obtained by fine needle aspiration and Papanicolaou stained. The sample comprised 95 cases of malignant lesions and 47 cases of benign lesions (approximately 25 nuclei per case), and 27 textural variables were measured. Two methods were used to analyze the data: classification and regression trees (CART) and discriminant analysis. RESULTS: The variance in gray levels was the most decisive variable in the CART analysis, correctly classifying 57% and 97% of benign and malignant cases, respectively. Discriminant analysis yielded the best results, correctly classifying 79% and 85% of benign and malignant cases, respectively. CONCLUSION: The classifier obtained by a statistical approach to the textural analysis of Papanicolaou-stained nuclei did not prove useful for diagnostic discrimination. Staining techniques that are not chromatin specific are highly variable, and other features have proven more effective with this type of staining.  相似文献

Temporary replacement of specific liver functions with extracorporeal bioartificial liver has been hampered by rapid de‐differentiation of porcine hepatocytes in vitro. Co‐cultivation of hepatocytes with non‐parenchymal cells may be beneficial for optimizing cell functions via mimicry of physiological microenvironment consisting of endogenous matrix proteins. However, the underlying mechanisms remain to be elucidated. A randomly distributed co‐culture system composed of porcine hepatocytes and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells was generated, and the morphological and functional changes of varying degrees of heterotypic interactions were characterized. Furthermore, contributions of extracellular matrix within this co‐culture were evaluated. A rapid attachment and self‐organization of three‐dimensional hepatocyte spheroids were encouraged. Studies on hepatocyte viability showed a metabolically active, viable cell population in all co‐culture configurations with occurrence of few dead cells. The maximal induction of albumin production, urea synthesis, and cytochrome P4503A1 activities was achieved at seeding ratio of 2:1. Immunocytochemical detection of various extracellular matrix confirmed that a high level of matrix proteins synthesis within distinct cells was involved in hepatocyte homeostasis. These results demonstrate for the first time that cell–matrix has synergic effects on the preservation of hepatic morphology and functionality in the co‐culture of porcine hepatocytes with mesenchymal stem cells in vitro, which could represent a promising tool for tissue engineering, cell biology, and bioartificial liver devices. Aims To examine the spatio‐temporal co‐occurrence of cougars (Felis concolor), wolves (Canis lupus), and their prey during winter using monthly (November–March) species–environment relationship models. In addition, to contrast predictions across two methods: logistic regression and Geographic Information System (GIS) image correlation. Location The eastern front ranges of the Canadian Rocky Mountains (south‐central Alberta), approximately 100 km west of Calgary, including portions of Banff National Park and Kananaskis Country. Methods Snow‐tracking data were collected simultaneously for cougars, wolves, elk (Cervus elaphus), and deer (Odocoileus virginianus and O. hemionus) between November and March, 1997–2000. Track data were synthesized in a GIS. Logistic regression and Akaike's information criterion (AIC) were used to select optimal environmental relationship models for each species. We first examined co‐occurrence by iteratively using each species as a dependent variable (presence/absence) in a logistic regression analysis and using all other species track‐density estimates as independent variables. We built predictive surfaces in a GIS using the exponent form of the logistic regression models, and assessed model accuracy with a receiver operating characteristic curve. We then re‐examined co‐occurrence using pairwise correlations of species probability surfaces by month. The correlation results were compared with logistic regression results to illuminate mechanisms of co‐occurrence and to investigate predictive consistency across the two methods. Results Cougars showed a trend in distribution from higher elevation and less rugged terrain in December, to lower elevation and more rugged terrain in March. This trend differed from that for wolves, which showed a more stable affinity for low elevation and less rugged valley bottoms across all months. The logistic regression models indicated variable positive and negative associations of cougars with wolves by month, and changes in prey associations over time. Notably, there was a shift in co‐occurrence for both predators from elk to deer in March. We found high predictive accuracy for all probability surfaces, except for the month of January. Our image comparison showed that spatial co‐occurrence amongst all species increased over winter, except that wolves and cougars were negatively correlated in February. Combining the results of each approach we found that cougars and wolves converged spatially over winter at the landscape scale (i.e. the valley), while showing more discrete use of that space over time and by habitat attributes (e.g. forest cover, topographic complexity, and prey track density). Main conclusions In the Rocky Mountains, the spatial distributions of cougars and wolves converged into the valley floor as winter progressed. Cougars were distinct from wolves and prey in the intensity of this shift. We determined that a comparison of predictive surfaces alone fails to explain species co‐occurrence. The surfaces must be coupled with investigation of respective species–environment models to account for temporal changes in associations. We suggest that the two approaches represent different ecological scales: image comparison may be best for landscape‐ (valley) level analysis, while logistic regression is best for site‐level analysis. Ultimately, both approaches were critical to our analysis. Finally, the variability observed over time suggested that annual and seasonal models may obscure important ecological patterns and processes, especially for cougars.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: We previously investigated the current status of breast cytology cancer screening at seven institutes in our area of southern Fukuoka Prefecture, and found some differences in diagnostic accuracy among the institutions. In the present study, we evaluated the cases involved and noted possible reasons for their original cytological classification as inadequate, indeterminate, false-negative and false-positive according to histological type. METHODS: We evaluated the histological findings in 5693 individuals who underwent cytological examination for breast cancer (including inadequate, indeterminate, false-negative and falsepositive cases), to determine the most common histological types and/or features in these settings and the usefulness/limitations of cytological examination for the diagnosis of breast cancer. RESULTS: Among 1152 cytologically inadequate cases, histology revealed that 75/173 (43.6%) cases were benign, including mastopathy (fibrocystic disease) in 38.6%, fibroadenoma in 24.0% and papilloma in 5.3%. Ninety-five of 173 (54.9%) cases were histologically malignant, with scirrhous growing type, invasive ductal carcinoma (SIDC) being significantly more frequent (49.5%) than papillotubular growing type (Papi-tub) (P < 0.0001), solid-tubular growing type (P = 0.0001) and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) (P = 0.0001). Among 458 indeterminate cases, 54/139 (38.8%) were histologically benign (mastopathy, 30.0%; fibroadenoma, 27.8%; papilloma, 26.0%) and 73/139 (52.5%) were malignant, with SIDC being the most frequent malignant tumor (37.0%). Among 52 false-negative cases, SIDC was significantly more frequent (42.3%) than DCIS (P = 0.0049) and Papi-tub (P = 0.001). There were three falsepositive cases, with one each of fibroadenoma, epidermal cyst and papilloma. CONCLUSIONS: The inadequate, indeterminate, false-negative and false-positive cases showed similar histological types, notably SIDC for malignant tumors, and mastopathy, fibroadenoma and papilloma for benign cases. We need to pay particular attention to the collection and assessment of aspirates for these histological types of breast disease. In particular, several inadequate, indeterminate and false-negative cases with samples collected by aspiration were diagnosed as SIDC. These findings should encourage the use of needle biopsy rather than aspiration when this histological type is identified on imaging. Namely, good communication between clinicians and pathological staff, and triple assessment (i.e., clinical, pathological and radiological assessment), are important for accurate diagnosis of aspiration samples. Several indices measure the association or segregation between two species and the similarity or differentiation between two sets of species. These indices are based on the overlap in the distribution of species (measured with the number of co‐occurrences) or on the overlap in species composition of sites (measured with the number of species that are shared between two sites). This paper shows that when evaluating more than two species the number of overlaps and the number of pairwise co‐occurrences are not equal, as it is the case for two species. Equivalently, when comparing more than two species assemblages, the number of overlaps differ from the number of instances of species sharing by pairs of sites (the ‘co‐diversities’). Considering this distinction, two different types of multispecies and multisite indices can be derived: indices of general overlap and indices of co‐occurrence or co‐diversity. Here I present a complete series of the two types of indices that correspond to the popular Jaccard, Sørensen, and Simpson two‐species or two‐site indices. Indices of general overlap are defined by three parameters (the total number of species, the total number of sites, and the total number of occurrences), whereas indices of co‐occurrence or co‐diversity depend on those parameters plus an additional one that is defined by the values of species richness or range size. Consequently, the two types of indices respond differently to null models, depending on the parameters that are fixed or randomized. All indices correlate well with the mean of the traditional indices calculated pair by pair, and the correspondence is extremely close for the new indices of co‐occurrence and co‐diversity. These properties should be useful in clarifying some of the confusion that exists in the current discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of pairwise vs community‐wide approaches in the analysis of diversity.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To perform a quantitative analysis to identify which of 7 nuclear morphometry-related variables are of diagnostic value in distinguishing benign from malignant melanocytic skin lesions. STUDY DESIGN: At the Institute of Pathology, University of Nis, formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded skin biopsies from 23 cases of benign nevi (18 intradermal and 5 junctional) and 25 cases of primary nodular malignant melanomas were retrieved. Specimens were routinely stained with hematoxylin and eosin and analyzed using a computer-assisted interactive image analysis system. Nuclear area, equivalent diameter, volume of equivalent sphere, perimeter, mean chord, circularity and integrated optical density were estimated after manual editing of binary images. RESULTS: In univariate analysis, 6 features were found to be significantly different between the benign and malignant groups (P < .0001); all measured nuclear variables (except circularity) were higher in malignant melanomas. No significant differences were found among lesions with respect to nuclear shape. Using discriminant function analysis, a correct diagnosis was achieved in 95.8% of benign nevi cases and 84.0% of malignant melanoma cases. The best discriminant variable was nuclear area. CONCLUSION: Image analysis is diagnostically relevant to the evaluation of melanocytic lesions of the skin. The area of the nucleus appeared to have potential for differentiating benign from malignant tumors and can be estimated in the course of routine histology.  相似文献
