A total of 4109 does of a local Greek breed (Capra prisca) were synchronized with intravaginal MPA-sponges and PMSG, and 24 bucks of Alpine (n = 8), Saanen (n = 8) and Damascus (n = 8) breeds were used for studying the fertility of nonfrozen and frozen-thawed semen during the nonbreeding season (June to August). Artificial insemination (AI) was performed once (50 to 55 h after sponge withdrawal) or twice (36 and 60 h after sponge withdrawals with fresh semen (collected during the nonbreeding season, stored at 16 degrees C and inseminated within 6 h) or frozen semen (prepared from the same bucks during the preceding breeding season). The induction of estrus was successful, varying between 91.0 and 95.0%. The form of semen (fresh or frozen-thawed used for inseminating the synchronized does affected their fertility: the overall kidding rate with fresh semen (65.5%) was higher (P < 0.05) than that with frozen-thawed semen (53.4%). The fertility level was also affected by the number of inseminations performed: the overall kidding rate was significantly higher (P < 0.001) in the does inseminated twice with fresh or frozen-thawed semen (70.4 and 59. 1%, respectively) than in those inseminated only once (48.9 and 44.9%, respectively). Finally, the breed of the buck used for preparing the fresh or the frozen-thawed semen affected the fertility level of the does. The kidding rate was higher in does inseminated with fresh semen prepared from bucks of the Damascus breed than from bucks of Saanen or Alpine breed. However, when frozen-thawed semen was used the kidding rate was lower in does inseminated with semen prepared from bucks of the Damascus breed than from bucks of the Alpine or Saanen breed. It is concluded that the fresh semen of Alpine, Saanen and Damascus breed bucks, born and raised under the climate conditions prevailing in Greece (34 degrees to 41 degrees N), can be used successfully during the nonbreeding season (June to August) for inseminating does.  相似文献

Ovsynch synchronization and fixed-time insemination in goats   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This study assessed the efficacy of an Ovsynch protocol (vs. the classical cronolone containing vaginal sponge+eCG treatment) to generate fixed-time insemination in goats during the breeding season. Each regimen was applied to 24 Boer goat does. Onset and duration of estrus were determined with an aproned male and follicular development was monitored by ultrasonography. Ovulation and quality of the corpora lutea were established from progesterone concentrations. In 10-11 goats per group, LH concentrations were determined throughout the preovulatory period. Does were inseminated at pre-determined times (16 h after the second GnRH injection and 43 h after sponge removal). Estrus was identified in 96% of the Ovsynch-treated goats (at 49 h after prostaglandin injection) and in 100% of the goats synchronized with sponges (at 37 h after sponge removal). Low progesterone concentrations at the time of AI were observed in 21/24 and 24/24 goats synchronized by Ovsynch and sponges, respectively. Synchronization of the LH surge was tighter following Ovsynch compared to sponge treatment. Kidding rates (at 58 and 46% in the Ovsynch and sponge groups, respectively) and prolificacy (at 1.86 and 1.83 in the Ovsynch- and sponge-treated goats) were similar for both groups, as were the number of ovulations (2.9 and 3.3) and the proportion of does with premature corpus luteum regression (29 and 17%). When excluding does with premature luteal regression and those with low progesterone levels when receiving prostaglandins, kidding rate reached 87.5% (14/16) after Ovsynch. During the breeding season, the Ovsynch protocol may thus be an useful alternative to the sponge-eCG treatment.  相似文献

Mature nonlactating British Saanen and Toggenburg does with a body score 2 were fed 25% (n=24) and 100% (n=16) maintenance rations from about 19 days before mating until slaughter at approximately 60 days after mating. Estrus was synchronized using PGF(2alpha), and the ovulation rate was determined by laparoscopic examination of the ovaries once between Days 6 and 10 after mating. Pregnancy rate, potential kidding rate and embryo loss were determined by counts of viable fetuses at slaughter. The proportion of does in estrus within 96 hours of PGF(2alpha) administration was not different (P<0.5) between the feed-restricted and the maintenance groups (71.0% and 87.5%, respectively); however, the time of onset of estrus after PGF(2alpha) tended to be longer (P=0.12) in the feed-restricted group. Ovulation rate, incidence of multiple ovulations and proportion of does pregnant at 60 days were significantly lower (P=0.0004, P=0.025, P=0.05, respectively) in the restricted group. More embryos from single than multiple ovulations were lost in the restricted group (P=0.01). There was no difference in the overall ovulatory activity between right and left ovaries in the 2 groups. Transuterine migrations were observed in all does that had unilateral multiple ovulations. No migration was observed in does which had single ovulations. These data indicate that restricted feed intake in goats tended to delay the onset of estrus and lowered the ovulation rate, incidence of multiple ovulations, and pregnancy rate.  相似文献

The purpose of the experiment was to test the hypothesis that a variable and/or insufficient level of progestagen at the end of a treatment to synchronize estrus in goats could explain variability in the onset of estrus. The experiment was performed during the anestrous season on 2 herds, one of Alpine (n = 49) the other of Saanen (n = 53) dairy goats. The animals were allocated to 1 of 3 treatments: Group 1 received a vaginal sponge impregnated with 45 mg of fluorogestone acetate (FGA) on Day 0; Group 2 received a sponge on Day 0 plus a second sponge on Day 7; Group 3 received a sponge on Day 0 plus a second sponge on Day 9. The sponges were withdrawn on Day 11. All goats received 400 or 500 IU eCG and 50 mug PGF(2alpha) analog 48 h prior to sponge removal. They were inseminated with frozen-thawed semen 24 h after the onset of estrus. Among treatment groups no difference (P > 0.05) was observed for the following parameters: percentage of goats in estrus, percentage of goats ovulating, mean time and variability of onset of estrus. The fertility of Alpine goats in Group 3 was significantly decreased (P < 0.05). No effect on prolificacy was noticed. These observations show that to increase progestagen level at the end of treatment did not improve estrus synchronization. They provide further evidence that treatments with too high progestagen amounts can decrease fertility.  相似文献

The influence of ovarian status (presence of a corpora lutea and follicles) on the times of the onset of estrus, LH peak and ovulation rate at a synchronized estrus was evaluated in 73 Alpine and Saanen cyclic goats. Does were treated for 11 d with 3 mg norgestomet implants or 45mg fluorogestone acetate (FGA) sponges. They also received 400 IU of PMSG and 50 μg of a PGF analog on Day 9 of progestagen priming. Follicles (1 to 7 mm) and corpora lutea (CL) were counted by laparoscopy on Days 0 and 9 of progestagen treatment and 5 or 6 d after the synchronized estrus. Estrus was detected every 4 h from 16 to 60 h after the end of progestagen treatment using a vasectomized buck. The LH concentration was determined by radioimmunoassay (RIA) in blood samples collected every 4 h for 24 h beginning at the time of the onset of estrus. The number of follicles on Days 0 and 9 of progestagen treatment was not related to the time of the onset of estrus and occurrence of the LH peak or to ovulation rate. The number of CL on Day 9 influenced the time of occurrence of the LH peak but not the time of the onset of estrus. Thus, in does with 2 or 3 CL on Day 9, the LH peak occurred at 46.9 h after the end of progestagen treatment, and in does with 1 or 0 CL at 42.2 and 42.5 h, respectively, after treatment, suggesting that the number of CL at luteolysis is a factor in the variability of response after the synchronization of estrus.  相似文献

In a previous study we showed that estrus synchronization with 2 treatments of PGF2 alpha 13 d apart reduced conception rate at the synchronized estrus and that this reduction occurred mainly in cows in the early luteal phase at the second PGF2 alpha treatment. The objective of the present study was to determine the efficacy of a synchronization regimen in which PGF2 alpha was administered during the mid- to late-luteal phase to cows that had previously been synchronized with progesterone. Spring-calving cows from 6 dairy herds were used in this study. On Day -32 (Day 1 = the start of the breeding season), cows that had calved 2 or more weeks ago were randomly assigned to a synchronization (S, n = 732) or control (C, n = 731) group. Cows in Group S were treated with an intravaginal progesterone device (CIDR) for 12 d from Day -32 to Day -20, while those in Group C were left untreated. Similar percentages of cows in Group S (80.6%) and C (82.9%) had cycled by Day -7. The CIDR treatment synchronized the onset of estrus, resulting in 92.9% of cows in estrus being detected within 7 d after CIDR removal. Cows in Group S that had cycled by Day -7 were treated with PGF2 alpha (25 mg, i.m., Lutalyse) on Day -2. Cows in both groups that were anestrous on Day -7 were treated with a combination of progesterone and estradiol benzoate (EB) to induce estrus and ovulation (CIDR and a 10 mg EB capsule on Day -7, CIDR removal on Day -2, and injection of 1 mg EB 48 h after CIDR removal). The PGF2 alpha treatment synchronized the onset of estrus in 87.5% of the cows. Group S and C cows had similar conception rates to first (61.0 vs 58.3%) and second (58.4 vs 60.9%) AI; similar pregnancy rates over the AI period (82.8 vs 79.2%) and over the whole breeding season (91.9 vs 90.6%); and required a similar number of services per pregnancy to AI (1.7 vs 1.8). The interval from the start of the breeding season to conception for cows conceiving to AI or to combined AI and natural mating was shorter (P < 0.001) by 5.7 and 6.2 d, respectively, for the Group S cows. It is concluded that the treatment regimen tested in the present study achieved satisfactory estrus synchronization, had no detrimental effect on fertility at the synchronized estrus, and shortened the interval from start of the breeding season to conception.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate genetic and non-genetic factors influencing artificial insemination (AI) success in French dairy goats. Data analysis, on a total of 584 676 and 386 517 AI records for Alpine and Saanen breed, respectively, collected from 1992 to 2009, was conducted separately on each breed. We used a linear simple repeatability animal model which combined male and female random effect and environmental fixed effects. The most important environmental factor identified was the period within year effect due to the European heat wave of 2003. The estimated values of the annual fertility exhibited a negative trend of 1% loss of AI success per 10 years for Alpine breed only. The range of variation for the flock×within years random effect was 70% and 65% for Alpine and Saanen breeds. The negative effect on AI success of antibody production after repetitive hormonal treatment was confirmed. We observed an important positive relationship between fertility and protein yield expressed as quartile within flock×years of protein 250-day yield for female with lactation number over 1, while this trend was negative for primiparous females. We detected a negative effect of the duration of conservation of semen with a difference of about 4% of AI success between extreme values (2 to 8+ or 9+ years). Heritability estimates for male fertility were 0.0037 and 0.0043 for Alpine and Saanen breed respectively, while estimates for female fertility was 0.040 and 0.049. Repeatability estimates for males were 0.008 and 0.010 for Alpine and Saanen, respectively, and 0.097 and 0.102 for females. With such low values of heritability, selection can hardly affect fertility.  相似文献

Alpine dairy goats were induced to superovulate at the end of a progestagen treatment with porcine follicle stimulating hormone (pFSH) during the breeding season (n = 10 goats) and out of the breeding season (n = 10 goats). Occurrence of estrus and of the luteinizing hormone (LH) peak were checked every 4 h. Ovulations were determined every 6 h by ovarian laparoscopic examination. Among the parameters studied, the mean interval from sponge removal to the onset of estrus did not differ whatever the season of treatment, but the variability was higher for females treated out of the breeding season. Ovulations began during the laparoscopic control period for nine of ten goats during the breeding season vs seven of ten goats out of the breeding season. For these 16 females, on which the LH peak and beginning of ovulation were known, the season did not affect the intervals between the onset of estrus and the LH peak and between the LH peak and the beginning of ovulation. When ovulations are observed by laparoscopy every 6 h, for any given goat 54.9% of total ovulations (counted 7 d after estrus) occurs in less than 6 h, and 87.1% in less than 12 h. Although the interval between the LH peak and the ovulation is quite constant, the additive variabilities of the intervals between the sponge removal and the onset of estrus and between the onset of estrus and the LH peak precluded the determination of an optimal time for artificial insemination (AI) by timing sponge removal or onset of estrus.  相似文献

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the endocrine and behavioral features of estrous-induced Alpine goats. A total of 36 nulliparous, 40 non-lactating and 42 lactating does were treated with intravaginal 60 mg medroxyprogesterone acetate sponges for 9 d plus 200 IU eCG and 22.5 microg d-cloprostenol 24 h before sponge removal. Plasma progesterone concentration was analyzed from blood sampled on days 0 (sponge insertion), 5, 8 (cloprostenol administration) and 9 (sponge removal) in 11 nulliparous, 13 non-lactating and 11 lactating does. Estrous response did not differ (P>0.05) among nulliparous (97.2%), non-lactating (90.00%) and lactating does (85.7%). Interval to estrus and duration of estrus did not differ (P>0.05) among nulliparous (22.8+/-9.9 and 25.6+/-6.8h), non-lactating (23.7+/-15.8 and 25.0+/-6.0 h) and lactating does (22.2+/-10.4 and 24.9+/-4.2h). The accumulative percentage of does in estrus during the first 36 h after sponge removal was 88.1%. The correlation between interval to estrus and duration of estrus was r=-0.32 (P<0.001). Endogenous progesterone production is decreased until day 8 or suppressed by MAP on day 9. Conception rate was greater (P<0.01) in lactating (77.8%) than non-lactating (44.4%) but similar (P>0.05) to nulliparous (60.0%) goats. Estrus can be efficiently induced by means of hormonal treatment in goats and acceptable fertility can be obtained regardless of animal category.  相似文献

Ninety-eight Alpine goats of two herds were followed over 4 years in a program of annual artificial insemination after estrus induction/synchronization, including progestagen administration (vaginal sponge) followed by prostaglandin analog and equine chorionic gonadotrophin (eCG) 48 h before sponge removal. Goats were sampled every 4 hours from the 16th to the 56th following sponge removal, for determination of LH surge and tested for estrus by the presence of a buck. Seven days after AI, endoscopic examination of the ovaries was performed to determine the number of corpus lutea. Pregnancy diagnosis was performed at day 21-22 post AI by determination of plasma progesterone and at day 40-45 by ultrasonography. Parturition, number and sex of kids were recorded. All the goats were sampled before and after each treatment, for anti-eCG antibodies screening. Statistical analysis of the results clearly established a significant effect of the treatments on anti-eCG antibodies. Time of estrus and LH surge were significantly different between herd. The antibodies significantly delayed the time of coming out of estrus as well as the time of LH surge. Two antagonistic effects were evidenced: first, the delayed of time of estrus and time of LH surge in relation with the immune reaction to eCG; secondly, the ahead of time of estrus and time of LH surge during the years of treatment, identical to both herd. The antibodies negatively influenced the percentage of ovulating females as well as kidding rate. Finally, no effect of antibodies on prolificacy was found.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the reproductive performance of lactating cows in seasonal dairy herds after estrus synchronization with PGF2alpha (PG) with or without supplementation with progesterone (P4). In Trial 1, synchronized cows (S1; n = 521) were compared with untreated control cows (C; n = 518) in 5 herds. Estrus of cows in the S1 group was synchronized with 2 treatments of PG (Lutalyse) 13 d apart. The breeding season started 2 d after the second PG. Cows were first bred by AI for 7 wk and then herd sires were used. Compared with C cows, estrus synchronization in the treated cows reduced the conception rate to first AI (61.1 vs 70.5%; P < 0.01) and the intervals from start of the breeding season to conception for cows conceiving to AI (11.0 vs 14.6 d; P < 0.05) or to both AI and natural mating (16.5 vs 18.4 d; P < 0.05). There was no effect on conception rate to second AI (68.8%), on pregnancy rate by Day 24 (72.3%) or Day 49 (86.3%) of the breeding season, or on the percentage of cows not pregnant at end of the breeding season (5.0%). In Trial 2, effects of P4 supplementation before the second PG on reproductive performance were evaluated in 4 herds. Estrus of each cyclic cow was synchronized with PG as in Trial 1. Half of the cows in each herd were treated with an intravaginal P4 device (CIDR) for 5 d before the second PG (S2+P4, n = 608), whereas the remaining half received no CIDR treatment (S2, n = 593). Compared with S2 cows, P4 treatment increased the estrous response rate to the second PG (89.6 vs 82.9%; P < 0.01), the conception rate to first AI (65.1 vs 59.7%; P = 0.07), the pregnancy rate by Day 6 of the breeding season (59.3 vs 49.0%; P < 0.001), and reduced the intervals from start of the breeding season to conception for cows conceiving to AI (8.6 vs 10.4 d; P < 0.10) or to both AI and natural mating (12.7 vs 16.4 d; P < 0.01). Treatment with a used CIDR from Days 16 to 21 after start of breeding to re-synchronize returns to service had no effect on conception rate to first or second AI but may decrease the conception rate to second AI in cows previously treated with CIDR. In conclusion, estrus synchronization with the double PG system can reduce fertility, while P4 supplementation for 5 d before the second PG can improve estrous response and overall reproductive performance. Stage of the estrous cycle at the time of the second PG can affect fertility following synchronization.  相似文献

The response to the male effect was studied in two flocks of Saanen and three of Alpine goats during deep anoestrus in three consecutive years. Males and females were subjected to artificially long days for about 3 months (between December 4 and April 1) followed by a natural photoperiod. Bucks joined goats 42-63 days after the end of the long days treatment (between April 20 and June 3) and fertilisation was ensured by natural mating. In experiment 1 (n=248), female goats were treated or untreated with melatonin at the end of the long days treatment and treated or untreated for 11 days with fluorogestone acetate (FGA) before teasing. The males received melatonin implants. In experiment 2 (n=337), the factor studied was the association or non-association of the 11-day FGA treatment. Neither males nor females received melatonin implants. In experiment 3 (n=180), goats were treated for 11 days with FGA or with natural progesterone (CIDR). Neither males nor females received melatonin implants. In experiment 1, among the non-cycling goats (n=218), 99% ovulated and 81% kidded at 161+/-8 days after joining. Ninety-two percent of FGA-treated goats displayed an LH surge at 65+/-11h after teasing. Melatonin treatment did not affect any parameter but FGA advanced the kidding date. In experiment 2, 94% of the goats ovulated and 87% kidded. A major peak of conception was observed on days 3 and 8 after joining in FGA-treated and untreated goats, respectively. Among the FGA-treated goats, 83% displayed an LH surge. Over all flocks, most of the LH surges occurred over a 24-36 h interval, but the surge was initiated at different times in different flocks (36, 48 or 60 h after joining). FGA treatment did not influence the results, except for advancement of births of about 5 days. Differences among flocks were highly significant. In experiment 3, 94% of the goats displayed the LH surge, 93% ovulated and 68% kidded. Significant differences were found among flocks, but not between the FGA and CIDR groups. Bucks marked 85% of the goats 24-72 h after joining. The time interval between the detection of marked goats and detection of the LH surge depended on the time of marking (r=-0.62; p<0.05). In conclusion, treatment of both males and females goats with artificially long days followed by a natural photoperiod is very effective in inducing highly synchronous and fertile reproductive activity via the male effect in the middle of seasonal anoestrus.  相似文献

Twenty-one maiden and 29 pluriparous milking Ankara Saanen goats received either two i.m. injections of PGF(2)alpha (n=25) or intravaginal MAP sponges (n=25) early in November at the start of the breeding season. About twice as many pluriparous goats as maiden goats exhibited estrus after either treatment (87% vs. 47%). Breeding after this induced estrus caused pregnancies in 62% of the pluriparous goats, but only in 24% of the maiden animals. Maximal concentrations of progesterone were reached 11 days after the start of the MAP treatment. Progesterone declined to basal levels two to four days after sponge withdrawal. A significant slower progesterone increase also resulting in lower maximal concentrations could be observed in maiden goats. Luteolysis was evident in all animals within 24 h after PGF(2)alpha injection. Nine goats (six maiden and three pluriparous) did not exhibit Heat after the second injection and showed only a slow increase of progesterone. It seems that noncyclic animals are less sensitive to MAP treatment than to the first PGF(2)alpha injection. Goats at the beginning of the breeding season may react after a premature interruption of corpus luteum function (after second PGF(2)alpha injection) with delayed or inadequate follicular function.  相似文献

In a field trial, a total of 472 Norwegian Dairy goats showing natural estrus were artificially inseminated with frozen-thawed semen. The farmers themselves performed vaginal deposition of 400 × 106 spermatozoa; one half of the does received two straws (200 × 106 spermatozoa/straw) at the same time (single AI), while the other half received two straws (200 × 106 spermatozoa/straw) 12 h apart (double AI). The commercially available extender Andromed® was used for dilution. The does were housed at 15 different farms, and on average 31 does were inseminated per farm. Non return rates (NRR) and kidding rates after single insemination were 64.3% and 58.3%, respectively. Double inseminations resulted in a NRR of 62% and a kidding rate of 57%. No significant difference between single and double AI was seen in the study. This study indicates that single or double vaginal insemination with an equal total number of frozen-thawed spermatozoa (400 × 106) can give acceptable fertility results in Norwegian Dairy goats. However, studies on reducing sperm numbers are called for to allow AI donor bucks to be used to their fullest potential.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted in acyclic Alpine (A) and Saanen (S) goats that received intravaginal sponges containing 60 mg of medroxyprogesterone acetate for 6 days, as well as 200 IU of eCG and 30 μg d-cloprostenol i.m. 24 h before sponge removal. On day 7 (day 0 = onset of synchronized estrus), all goats were randomly divided into two groups: animals treated with 300 IU of hCG i.m. (hCG; Exp.1: n = 8A; Exp.2: n = 75A + S) and untreated controls (Control; Exp.1: n = 8A; Exp. 2: n = 70A + S). In Exp.2, all goats were artificially inseminated. Transrectal ovarian ultrasonography and blood collection were done on days 7, 10, 13, 17, and 21 (Exp.1), and pregnancy detection on day 60 (Exp.2). Estrus and ovulations occurred in five hCG and seven Control animals. Accessory CL (aCL) were detected in all hCG does. The total luteal area of ovulatory corpora lutea (oCL) increased (P < 0.05) on day 10 in hCG does and remained greater (P < 0.05) than in Control until day 21. Total and high-velocity color Doppler area were greater (P < 0.05) for oCL of hCG does on days 13 and 17. Progesterone concentrations were greater (P < 0.05) in hCG does from days 13 to 21 and related directly to the total luteal and oCL area for the duration of the study in all does. The pregnancy rate was higher (P < 0.05) in hCG than in Control by 22.5 %. Human chorionic gonadotropin given on day 7 of the synchronized estrous cycle positively affected CL function and pregnancy rates in seasonally anovular dairy goats.  相似文献

The effect of sterile service on estrus duration, fertility and prolificacy in artificially inseminated dairy goats during breeding season was studied. Nubian does (n=126) were divided into 2 equal groups: service and control. Estrus was synchronized with intravaginal sponges containing either fluorgestone acetate (FGA; 40 mg) or medroxiprogesterone acetate (MAP; 60 mg) for 12 or 14 d, respectively. Two vasectomized teaser bucks were used to detect estrus at 6-h intervals for 5 d after sponge removal (0600, 1200, 1800 and 2400 h). The teasers were fitted with aprons and permitted to mount all does in both groups, but to penetrate only the service does within the first 12 h of estrus. Does in both groups were inseminated twice at 12 and 24 h after estrus was first detected, using 1 straw per insemination containing 200 million of cooled spermatozoa from 1 buck. The semen was placed in mid-cervix. Estrus duration for the service and control does was (mean +/- SD) 29.4 +/- 6.5 and 41.8 +/- 9.6 h, respectively. Fertility for the service does was 73.7% (46/63); for control does it was 58.7% (37/63). Prolificacy was 2.1 (96/46) and 2.0 (74/37) for service and control does, respectively. Estrus duration (P<0.001) and fertility (P<0.05) differed between the service and control group, but prolificacy was similar (P>0.05). It is concluded that sterile service reduces the duration of estrus and increases fertility in artificially inseminated dairy goats.  相似文献

The objective was to determine the effect of presynchronization with GnRH 7 d prior to the initiation of resynchronization with CO-Synch on pregnancy/AI (P/AI) of resynchronization in lactating dairy cows, and the effect of GnRH on P/AI from previous breeding. All parity Holstein cows (n = 3287) from four dairy farms were enrolled. Cows not detected in estrus by 28 ± 3 d (Day -7) after a previous breeding were assigned to receive either GnRH (100 μg, im; n = 1636) or no GnRH (Control; n = 1651). Cows not detected in estrus during the 7 d after GnRH underwent pregnancy diagnosis (35 ± 3 d after previous breeding, Day 0); non-pregnant cows (n = 1232) in the Control (n = 645) and GnRH (n = 587) groups were resynchronized with a CO-Synch protocol. Briefly, cows received 100 μg GnRH on Day 0, 25 mg PGF on Day 7, and 72 h later (Day 10) were given 100 μg GnRH and concurrently inseminated. Serum progesterone concentrations (n = 55 cows) were elevated in 47.3, 70.9, and 74.5% of cows on Days -7, 0, and 7, respectively. The proportion of cows with high progesterone concentrations on Day -7 and Day 0 were 44.1% and 88.2% (P < 0.003), and 55.2% and 33.2% (P > 0.1), for GnRH and Control groups, respectively. Accounting for significant variables such as locations (P < 0.0001) and parity categories (P < 0.05), the P/AI (35 ± 3 d after AI) for resynchronization was not different between GnRH and Control groups [26.7% (95% CI: 23.2, 30.5; (157/587) vs 28.4% (95% CI: 25.0, 31.9; (183/645); P > 0.1]. There were no significant location by treatment or parity by treatment interactions. Accounting for significant variables such as location (P < 0.0001) and parity categories (P < 0.001), the P/AI was not different between GnRH and Control groups for the previous service [60.2%; 95% CI: 57.9, 62.6; (986/1636) vs 59.1%; 95% CI: 56.7, 61.5; (976/1651); P > 0.1)]. There were no significant location by treatment or parity by treatment interactions. In conclusion, more cows presynchronized with GnRH 7 d prior to resynchronization with CO-Synch had elevated progesterone concentrations at initiation of resynchronization than those not presynchronized. The GnRH treatment 7 d prior to resynchronization with CO-Synch, when given 28 ± 3 d after a previous breeding, did not improve P/AI in lactating dairy cows; furthermore, compared to the control, it did not significantly affect pregnancy rate from the previous breeding.  相似文献

One hundred and fifty-six Spanish does were used to evaluate the effect of suckling manipulation on postpartum breeding. Does were divided into four herds dependent upon their kidding dates (range from October to January) and location. All kids were nursed ad libitum for approximately 30 days following birth. Groups were then subdivided, and does with kids were randomly allotted to one of the following treatment groups: 1) continuous suckling (CS), 2) once-daily suckling (ODS) or 3) early weaning (EW). Nonlactating does (NL) which lost a kid or aborted were also evaluated for rebreeding performance. At least one fertile male equipped with a marking harness was placed with each treatment group for estrus detection. After 30 days, ODS kids were returned to their dams. The proportion of does exhibiting estrus within 60 days postpartum was greater for ODS and EW does compared to CS does (P<0.05 and P<0.001, respectively). Postpartum interval to first estrus was shorter (P<0.05) for ODS does than for CS does (41.7 and 48.0 days, respectively). The percentage of does conceiving within 60 days postpartum was 25.0, 44.7, 74.4 and 70.7% for CS, ODS, EW and NL does, respectively. The interval from parturition to conception was shorter (P<0.05) for ODS does (43.6 days) than for CS does (50.4 days). Overall kid production was 1.87 kids/doe/year. These results indicate that reducing the suckling stimulus in Spanish does during the breeding season may result in an earlier return to estrus with a greater percentage of does rebreeding within 60 days postpartum.  相似文献

Animal and management factors associated with first service conception in nulliparous dairy heifers were determined in 601 Holstein heifers from a dairy farm in north central Florida. Animal data collected included body weight, height at the withers and tail head, body condition score at 6 months of age and just prior to first artificial insemination (AI), and pelvimetry measurements taken just prior to first AI. Management data included season of first AI, inseminator, service sire, method of estrus detection, whether the estrus of first insemination was induced using prostaglandin F(2alpha) (PGF(2alpha)), and whether the heifer received a modified live virus (MLV) vaccine within 21 days of first insemination. Data were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression. Heifers inseminated in the summer were more than four times less likely to become pregnant to first insemination than heifers bred during the rest of the year (odds ratio (OR)=0.24; 95% CI=0.14, 0.41). Using secondary signs for estrus detection instead of standing estrus resulted in significantly reduced odds of conception to first service (OR=0.37; 95% CI 0.13, 1.02). Also, heifers inseminated at estrus induced by PGF(2alpha) were approximately one-third less likely to conceive than those heifers inseminated to a naturally occurring estrus (OR=0.66; 95% CI 0.46, 0.95). An interaction between pelvic size and breeding season was found indicating that large pelvic size had a significant positive effect on fertility in the summer, but was not associated with conception to first service in the winter.  相似文献
