Carbachol chronically and peripherally administered, depending on the circadian time, caused a phase shift in the free-running locomotor activity rhythm, resynchronized the rhythm, or had a masking effect of this rhythm in mice. In the discussion it is stressed that the drug affects the rhythmicity of this activity, probably by acting on the mechanism of suprachiasmatic nuclei.  相似文献

Summary Synaptic ribbons in photoreceptor cells of the goldfish pineal organ undergo significant daily changes in their length, distance from the plasma membrane, and number per unit area of pineal end-vesicle. The rhythms persist in fish exposed to constant darkness. Constant light abolishes the rhythms in length and distance of synaptic ribbons from the plasmalemma, but has little effect on numerical changes over a 24-h cycle. These findings suggest that synaptic ribbons in the pineal organ of lower vertebrates might be useful as indicators of metabolic activity.  相似文献

Nannochloropsis oculata (strain CCAP 849/1) was sampled at least every 12 h over a 26-d period of batch culture growth in a 12 h/12 h light/dark illumination cycle. Exponential cell-specific growth rate was 0.5 d–1. Cell division occurred during the dark phase, while ammonium uptake, pigment synthesis and cell volume increase occurred mainly during the light. Stationary phase cells were on average larger that the largest exponentially growing cells. The lag phase prior to cell division was short with the C/N ratio returning to 6.25 (from 28) within 2 d of refeeding with ammonium. Significant Chl.a synthesis commenced after this period; net synthesis of Chl.a ceased on exhaustion of the N-source with a 40% fall in levels by the end of the stationary phase. Levels of carotenoids per cell also declined during N-deprivation although per ml of culture levels remained constant. Ammonium-refeeding of N-deprived cells resulted in a very rapid rise in glutamine (Gln) and very high ratios of glutamine/glutamate (Gln/Glu peaking at 35 within 1 h); peak Gln/Glu was lower in cells refed in the dark or after a shorter period of N-deprivation. The major intracellular amino acids during exponential phase were Glu, Gln, alanine and arginine, but on exhaustion of the N-source, levels of Gln fell rapidly (Gln/Glu falling to below 0.1 from 0.5–0.9 in the light and 0.3 in darkness during exponential growth). During N-deprivation tyrosine accumulated within the cells. ABSTRACT. Locomotor activity of individual blowflies, Phormia (=Protophormia) terraenovae R.D. (Diptera, Calliphoridae), was recorded by means of running wheels made of Perspex (plexiglass). At various intervals after hatching, flies were placed in the wheel in continuous light (120 lx). The period of the free-running rhythm was often shorter than 24 h initially, but lengthened later and stabilized after 15–20 days at values around or above 25 h. The mean period was independent of age in both sexes. Within a range from 2 to 2000lx the period did not depend in a systematic way on intensity of illumination; no activity could be recorded below 1 lx.  相似文献

Plasma LH and prolactin levels were studied in ovariectomized adult female rats submitted to light-darkness (L:D) or constant light (L:L) schedules, after the administration of estradiol benzoate (EB), 75 micrograms/day for six consecutive days. Previous to the treatment with EB LH levels were lower and prolactin levels higher in the L:L females. On days 1 and 2 after treatment, L:D females showed circadian variations of LH levels, these being higher at 17 h than at 10 h. This pattern disappeared in the L:D females. Prolactin levels increased similarly in both groups. Nine days after treatment, plasma prolactin levels remained high and the circadian pattern of LH in the L:D group disappeared.  相似文献

Laboratory studies were conducted to assess the effect of temperature on the survival, development, fecundity, and longevity of Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) at 11 constant temperatures ranging from 12.5 to 40 degrees C, as well as at five alternating temperature regimes (25-10, 30-15, 32.5-17.5, 35-20, and 35-27.5 degrees C) and under a photoperiod of 16:8 (L:D) h. H. armigera reared at constant temperatures did not develop from egg to adult (emergence) outside the temperature range of 17.5-32.5 degrees C. The alternating conditions expanded this range from 10 to 35 degrees C. The lowest developmental thresholds of the immature stages were estimated by a linear model and ranged from 10.17 (pupal stage) to 11.95 degrees C (egg stage) at constant temperature regimes and from 1.1 to 5.5 degrees C, respectively at alternating temperatures. The values of developmental thresholds estimated using the nonlinear (Lactin-2) model were lower than those estimated by the linear model for constant and alternating temperature regimes except for larval and pupal stages at constant temperatures. Mean adult longevity fluctuated from 34.4 d at 15 degrees C to 7.6 d at 35 degrees C. Females reared under all alternating temperature regimes laid more eggs than females reared at any, except the 25 degrees C, constant temperature treatment. The intrinsic rate of increase was highest at 27.5 degrees C, at both the constant and the corresponding alternating temperature regimes (0.147 and 0.139, respectively). Extreme temperatures had a negative effect on life table parameters.  相似文献

Experiments were performed to ascertain circadian fluctuations in plasma levels of LH and FSH in juvenile and adult male mice. Animals under natural lighting (11 h day/13 h night) were killed at 1-hour intervals over a 24-hour period. There were large variations in plasma LH concentrations between animals sacrificed within each killing period. Baseline LH levels (values lower than 60 ng/ml) showed a significant 24-hour periodicity in adult males. FSH concentrations exhibited significant diurnal variations in juvenile and adult males. There was significant influence of age on the temporal pattern and 24-hour mean plasma hormone levels.  相似文献

The relationship between 24-h recumbent blood pressure levels and secretory patterns of catecholamines was investigated in 4 patients with pseudohypoparathyroidism (PsHP) and hypertension and in 9 patients with essential hypertension. A clear circadian rhythm of blood pressure and catecholamines was documented in both groups with lowest levels of blood pressures and catecholamines occurring during sleep. During the 24-h period of recumbency mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) was correlated (r = 0.63, p less than or equal to 0.01) with plasma norepinephrine (N) in the patients with essential hypertension, but this correlation was weaker in patients with PsHP (r = 0.38, p less than or equal to 0.05). MAP was more closely related to plasma epinephrine (E) (r = 0.62, p less than or equal to 0.01) than to plasma NE in patients with PsHP. Plasma NE and E levels were considerably lower in patients with PsHP than in patients with essential hypertension throughout the 24-h recumbent period. The sleep-related decline in blood pressure and NE was less than in patients with essential hypertension. These results suggest that while the sympathetic nervous system may have a role in hour-to-hour maintenance of blood pressure in patients with PsHP and hypertension, it does not appear to be responsible for the elevated arterial pressure in these patients. Factors other than those investigated, such as obesity, alterations in sodium homeostasis of refractoriness of the vascular smooth muscle to the vasodilatory effect of PTH may be involved in the pathogenesis of hypertension in PsHP.  相似文献

This study examined circadian variation in coagulation and fibrinolytic parameters among Jcl:ICR, C3H/HeN, BALB/cA, and C57BL/6J strains of mice. Plasma plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) levels fluctuated in a circadian manner and peaked in accordance with the mRNA levels at the start of the active phase in all strains. Fibrinogen mRNA levels peaked at the start of rest periods in all strains, although plasma fibrinogen levels remained constant. Strain differences in plasma antithrombin (AT) activity and protein C (PC) levels were then identified. Plasma AT activity was circadian rhythmic only in Jcl:ICR, but not in other strains, although the mRNA levels remained constant in all strains. Levels of plasma PC and its mRNA fluctuated in a circadian manner only in Jcl:ICR mice, whereas those of plasma prothrombin, factor X, factor VII, prothrombin time (PT), and activated partial thrombin time (APTT) remained constant in all strains. These results suggest that genetic heterogeneity underlies phenotypic variations in the circadian rhythmicity of blood coagulation and fibrinolysis. The circadian onset of thrombotic events might be due in part to the rhythmic gene expression of coagulation and fibrinolytic factors. The present study provides fundamental information about mouse strains that will help to understand the circadian variation in blood coagulation and fibrinolysis.  相似文献

Entrainment may involve responses to dawn, to dusk, and to the light in between these transitions. Previous studies showed that the circadian system responds to only 2 light pulses, one at the beginning and one at the end of the day, in a similar way as to a full photoperiod, as long as the photoperiod is less than approximately 1/2 tau. The authors used a double 1-h light pulse protocol with different intervals of darkness in between (1, 2, 4, 7, 10, and 16 h) to study the phase responses of mice. The phase response curves obtained were compared to full light pulse PRCs of corresponding durations. Up to 6 hours, phase responses induced by double light pulses are virtually the same as by a corresponding full light pulse. The authors made a simple phase-only model to estimate the response reduction due to light exposure and response restoration due to dark exposure of the system. In this model, they assumed a 100% contribution of the first 1-h light pulse and fitted the reduction factor for the second light pulse to yield the best fit to the observations. The results suggest that after 1 h of light followed by less than 4 h of darkness, there is a considerable reduction in response to the second light pulse. Full response restoration requires more than 10 h of darkness. To investigate the influence of the duration of light on the response saturation, the authors performed a second series of experiments where the duration of the 2 light pulses was varied from 4 to 60 min each with a fixed duration of the stimulus (4 h). The response to 2 light pulses saturates when they are between 30 and 60 min long. In conclusion, double pulses replace single full light pulses of a corresponding duration of up to 6 h due to a response reduction during light, combined with response restoration during darkness. By the combined response reduction and response restoration, mice can maintain stable entrainment to the external LD cycle without being continuously exposed to it.  相似文献

The fluctuations of activity of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and those of the levels of protein, glucose, cholesterol, bilirubin, creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, K+, Cl-, Na+ in blood plasma of mice in natural conditions (NC) and exposed to constant light (CL) were studied in different seasons of the year (in January, April, July, October) on days 18, 24, 6 (at 12 o'clock). Most indices both in NC and CL animals had seasonal rhythm similar for each of them. This proves a primary effect of environmental geoclimatic factors of formation of circadian periodicals as compared to desynchronization in constant light revealed by Kosinor analysis in winter (acrophase from 14.16 till 16.32 o'clock) and autumn (acrophase from 23.03 til 4.40 o'clock). During the same seasons one can observe the maximum desynchronization influences of constant light, which leads to abrupt falling (to the 10-fold and more) of the fluctuations amplitude and in some cases to stabilization of circadian rhythm.  相似文献

The role of adenosine as a possible physiological modulator was explored by measuring its concentration in different tissues during a 24-hour period. Initially the circadian variations of adenosine and other purine compounds such as inosine, hypoxanthine, uric acid and adenine nucleotides were studied in the rat blood. A daily cyclic response was observed, with low levels of adenosine from 08.00 - 20.00 h, followed by an increase from this time on. Inosine and hypoxanthine levels were elevated during the day and low at night. The uric acid changes observed indicate that the decrease in purine catabolism coincides with a decrease in inosine and hypoxanthine levels and an increase in adenosine. The blood adenine nucleotides, energy charge and phosphorylation potential remained constant during the day and showed oscillatory changes during the night. Similar studies were made in the liver, a primary source of circulating purines. Liver adenosine was high during the night while inosine and hypoxanthine remained low along the 24 hours. The results suggest that liver purine metabolism might participate in the maintenance and renewal of the blood purine pool and in the energy state of erythrocytes in vivo.  相似文献

Circadian rhythms of blood total proteins, albumin, alpha 1-, alpha 2-, beta- and gamma-globulins were documented in 80 Wistar SPF adult male rats, synchronized by natural light (06.00-18.00 h) and darkness (18.00-06.00 h) during the month of October 78. Blood was sampled at four fixed time points in the 24 h scale (i.e. 04.00, 10.00, 16.00 or 24.00 h). Total proteins, albumin, alpha 2- and gamma-globulins showed a statistically significant rhythm with a maximum at 04.00 h. The data obtained in anaesthetized rats under artificial synchronization and in man are compared, taking into account that the rat is a nocturnally active rodent. The present work partially confirms the hypotheses of previous chronopharmacological studies, thus e.g. curarizing substances have a mimimum activity when the protein plasma level, especially albumin, is the highest.  相似文献

【目的】花绒寄甲 Dastarcus helophoroides (Fairmaire)是林木蛀干害虫重要的天敌昆虫,研究其行为活动昼夜节律,可以深入了解该虫的生物学特性、阐明其生活习性。【方法】采用室内(温度27±1℃、相对湿度65%±10%)条件下雌雄单头隔离饲养的方法,将该虫的行为活动分为移动、取食、饮水、木块处静息和木块外静息5种行为,每隔30 min记录一次,于2014年7月10-15日连续进行观察。【结果】移动和木块处静息行为存在明显的昼夜节律;移动行为主要发生在暗期,移动高峰发生在20:30-22:30和2:00-4:00之间,而在光期的6:00-16:30之间移动行为发生较少木块处静息行为主要发生在光期的9:30-16:30和暗期的0:00-1:30之间,而在20:30-23:00 的暗期中木块处静息行为发生较少。一天内,该虫发生取食和饮水行为均较少,两类行为主要发生在0:00-14:00之间。木块外静息行为主要发生在暗期的0:30-3:30和20:00-22:00之间。雌、雄成虫的各行为出现的时间和发生百分率无显著差异。【结论】花绒寄甲成虫活动行为受到光、暗条件的显著影响,移动行为主要发生在暗期,而各活动行为在雌、雄虫之间无显著性差异。  相似文献

A drop of a 0.2% vinblastin solution was applied to the eye cornea of mouse at 7 a.m. and at 7 p.m. The cornea of the second eye of the same animal served as control (application of physiological saline). The animals were sacrificed three hours after the application. The results of two analogous experiments showed vinblastin application to cause more expressed statmokinetic reaction in the corneal epithelium in the evening than in the morning hours.
