There are two structural forms of glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity in Drosophila melanogaster. Whether one or the other or both show in vitro (and probably in vivo) activity depends on the genotype of a sex-linked locus (Zw). In this article, the relative fitnesses of heterozygotes (with both electromorphs active) and homozygotes (with activity demonstrable for only one or the other electromorph) for the Zw locus are described. It is shown that the relative fitness of heterozygotes increases with increase in population density, or degree of crowding and trophic stress, and that the mean development times of Zw heterozygotes are lower than those of the Zw homozygotes. In addition, and perhaps accounting for the fitness and viability excess of the heterozygotes, one set of evidence strongly suggests that they are better buffered against trophic stress than the homozygotes.  相似文献

The genetic structure of the population of Danube shad, Alosa pontica, has been studied by means of analysis of 3 polymorphic biochemical gene loci. The results of the study provide evidence of its genetic heterogeneity which is expressed by: firstly, an unbalanced ratio of genotype loci manifested by an excess of rare homozygotes and deficite of the correspoding heterozygotes, and secondly, differences in the allele frequencies between shad populations arriving for spawning in March-April and May-June. It is suggested that there could be two causes of heterogeneity: one due to the introgressive hybridization between various forms of A. pontica and another to the differences between early and late spring races of shad which to a certain extent are reproductively autonomous.  相似文献

A study of erythrocyte superoxide dismutase in Cervus dama, Cervus elaphus, Cervus nippon and Cervus elaphus x Cervus nippon hybrids has revealed a polymorphism of this enzyme system in Cervus elaphus as well as in the hybrid population. Genetic analysis suggests that this enzyme system is controlled by one gene locus with two codominant alleles. The allele frequencies allow a clear discrimination between the hybrid population and the red deer population, whereas the fallow deer are fixed for the allele which is most common in red deer. The comparison of the genotypic structures with the Hardy-Weinberg structure shows a slight excess of homozygotes in all populations, but the deviation is significant only for the hybrid population as well as one red deer population. Genetic variation within and differentiation between demes is quantified using different measures. Finally, some management implications of these first results are discussed.  相似文献

Weedy red rice (Oryza sativa spontonea) is a persistent and problematic weed of rice culture worldwide. A major hypothesis for the mechanism of production of this weed in South and Southeast Asia is hybridization between cultivated rice (Oryza sativa) and wild rice (Oryza rufipogon). However, weedy red rice can often be found outside the range of O. rufipogon leaving questions on the origin and process behind weedy rice infestations. In the USA, weedy red rice was first documented as early as 1846 and has continued to affect rice production areas. In this study, we attempt to identify the origin and population structure of weedy red rice sampled from the USA using both DNA sequence data from a neutral nuclear locus as well as microsatellite genotype data. Results suggest that two major accessions of weedy rice exist, strawhull and blackhull, and these forms may both hybridize with the cultivated rice of the USA, O. sativa japonica. Using population assignment of multilocus genotype signatures with principal component analysis and structure, an Asian origin is supported for US weedy rice. Additionally, hybridization between strawhull and blackhull varieties was inferred and may present the opportunity for the production of new weedy forms in the future.  相似文献

A significant heterozygote deficiency was found for microsatellite locus 20H7 among adult breeding birds in four populations of the oystercatcher ( Haematopus ostralegus ). Genotype frequencies at seven other loci were according to Hardy–Weinberg equilibria. Deviations between observed and expected genotype numbers decreased substantially when the data were corrected based on the estimated frequency of a putative null allele at locus 20H7 . However, no null homozygotes were observed in the total sample of 378 individuals. The probability that, because of chance effects, null homozygotes were not represented in the sample ( n =230) from the most intensively studied population (Schiermonnikoog) was estimated to be less than 1%. Parent–offspring comparisons from Schiermonnikoog showed that observed genotype numbers in the offspring were in accordance with expected values based on the estimated frequency of the putative null allele in the population. Moreover, a null homozygote was observed among the nestlings. The combined results indicated that a null allele is present at locus 20H7 in oystercatchers and that the inheritance is according to normal Mendelian segregation. If the absence of null homozygotes among adult animals cannot be ascribed to statistical effects, null homozygotes may suffer a selective disadvantage during the juvenile stage.  相似文献

Previous studies have suggested that spotted patterns are important in the protection of ladybirds against attack by avian predators. Nevertheless, these studies were based on the comparison of several ladybird species differing in colouration, but also in other traits (e.g., chemical protection). We presented natural as well as artificial colour modifications (using brown, red, and black paint) of the ladybird Harmonia axyridis (Pallas) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) – an invasive alien species for Europe – to an avian predator, the great tit, Parus major L. (Passeriformes: Paridae). All forms were considered to be equal in size, but differed in colouration and in the presence of spots. The chemical protection was equal except for one form. The birds displayed strong avoidance of all forms with red and black colouration; beetles with artificially removed red colouration (painted brown) were attacked more often. The beetles painted brown with black spots were slightly better protected than the painted beetles without spots. We can sum up that spots are of some importance in the protection of ladybirds; nevertheless, red and black colouration is the main part of the visual signal.  相似文献

We tested the hypothesis that peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-delta (PPARdelta) gene polymorphisms are associated with cardiorespiratory fitness and plasma lipid responses to endurance training. Associations between the PPARdelta exon 4 +15 C/T and exon 7 +65 A/G polymorphisms and maximal exercise capacity and plasma lipid responses to 20 wk of endurance training were investigated in healthy white (n = 477) and black (n = 264) subjects. In black subjects, the exon 4 +15 C/C homozygotes showed a smaller training-induced increase in maximal oxygen consumption (P = 0.028) than the C/T and T/T genotypes. Similarly, a lower training response in maximal power output was observed in the exon 4 +15 C/C homozygotes (P = 0.005) compared with the heterozygotes and the T/T homozygotes in black subjects, and a similar trend was evident in white subjects (P = 0.087). In white subjects, baseline apolipoprotein A-1 (Apo A-1)levels were higher in the exon 4 +15 C/C (P = 0.011) and exon 7 +65 G/G (P = 0.05) genotypes compared with those in the other genotypes. In white subjects, exon 4 +15 C/C (P = 0.0025) and exon 7 +65 G/G (P = 0.011) genotypes showed significantly greater increases in plasma high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) levels with endurance training than in the other genotypes, whereas in black subjects the exon 4 +15 CC homozygotes tended to increase (P = 0.057) their Apo A-1 levels more than the T allele carriers. DNA sequence variation in the PPARdelta locus is a potential modifier of changes in cardiorespiratory fitness and plasma HDL-C in healthy individuals in response to regular exercise.  相似文献

The melanocyte-stimulating hormone receptor (MC1-R) is a central regulator of mammalian coat colour, encoded by the extension locus. In cattle, the dominant extension allele E(D) is associated with the production of black pigment in coloured areas. Genotyping of the MC1-R gene in a bull with mosaic expression of red vs. black pigment verified the existence of the E(D) allele, in spite of the fact that the majority of the animal is red coloured. No further mutations were found within the E(D) variant of the MC1-R gene, which was inherited from a completely red mother (genotype E(D)/e).  相似文献

There is strong negative‐assortative mating for gray and black pelage color in the iconic wolves in Yellowstone National Park. This is the first documented case of significant negative‐assortative mating in mammals and one of only a very few cases in vertebrates. Of 261 matings documented from 1995 to 2015, 63.6% were between gray and black wolves and the correlation between mates for color was –0.266. There was a similar excess of matings of both gray males × black females and black males × gray females. Using the observed frequency of negative‐assortative mating in a model with both random and negative‐assortative mating, the estimated proportion of negative‐assortative mating was 0.430. The estimated frequency of black wolves in the population from 1996 to 2014 was 0.452 and these frequencies appear stable over this 19‐year period. Using the estimated level of negative‐assortative mating, the predicted equilibrium frequency of the dominant allele was 0.278, very close to the mean value of 0.253 observed. In addition, the patterns of genotype frequencies, that is, the observed proportion of black homozygotes and the observed excess of black heterozygotes, are consistent with negative‐assortative mating. Importantly these results demonstrate that negative‐assortative mating could be entirely responsible for the maintenance of this well‐known color polymorphism.  相似文献

Most plants combine sexual reproduction with asexual clonal reproduction in varying degrees, yet the genetic consequences of reproductive variation remain poorly understood. The aquatic plant Butomus umbellatus exhibits striking reproductive variation related to ploidy. Diploids produce abundant viable seed whereas triploids are sexually sterile. Diploids also produce hundreds of tiny clonal bulbils, whereas triploids exhibit only limited clonal multiplication through rhizome fragmentation. We investigated whether this marked difference in reproductive strategy influences the diversity of genotypes within populations and their movement between populations by performing two large-scale population surveys (n = 58 populations) and assaying genotypic variation using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPDs). Contrary to expectations, sexually fertile populations did not exhibit higher genotypic diversity than sterile populations. For each cytotype, we detected one very common and widespread genotype. This would only occur with a very low probability (< 10-7) under regular sexual recombination. Compatibility analysis also indicated that the pattern of genotypic variation largely conformed to that expected with predominant clonal reproduction. The potential for recombination in diploids is not realized, possibly because seeds are outcompeted by bulbils for safe sites during establishment. We also failed to find evidence for more extensive movement of fertile than sterile genotypes. Aside from the few widespread genotypes, most were restricted to single populations. Genotypes in fertile populations were very strongly differentiated from those in sterile populations, suggesting that new triploids have not arisen during the colonization of North America. The colonization of North America involves two distinct forms of B. umbellatus that, despite striking reproductive differences, exhibit largely clonal population genetic structures.  相似文献

A significant difference between blacks and whites in the distribution of red cell galactokinase (GALK) has been found by Tedesco et al. [2]. From the shapes of the distributions, it was inferred that whites are essentially all homozygous for one allele (GALKA), but blacks are polymorphic. A second allele (GALKP), for lower GALK activity, is presented at high frequency in blacks but rare or absent in whites. This paper presents a method which, assuming the genetic model presented, estimates the genotype composition of the black sample. We make some reasonable biochemical assumptions and fit a mixture of three normal distributions to the black data to obtain an estimate of p, the frequency of GALKA in blacks. The fit of the model to the data is excellent and the best estimate of p is .217 +/- .025. Since admixture of white genes in blacks from the United States is known to be about 20%, the value of p implies that virtually all GALKA alleles were introduced by admixture, and that the ancestral black population was monomorphic for GALKP. If whites are indeed monomorphic for GALKA, they differ from unmixed blacks by a full gene substitution at the locus for GALK.  相似文献

The cross between two sibling species,D. simulans andD. mauritiana, produced F1 fertile females and sterile males. Backcrosses of these females to parental males resulted in the production of a small proportion of fertile males. From this second generation, four lines were propagated by mass mating and the frequency of fertile males was determined up to the 20th generation. In all cases, a linear increase of the proportion of fertile males was observed between the 2d and 8th generations and then the proportion remained stable at a level of 91%. From these observations several conclusions seem possible. (1) Male fertility was determined by several genes existing under different allelic conditions in the two sibling species; (2) the progressive restoration of male fertility was due to a normalizing selection which favored the homozygotes against the heterozygotes; (3) the persistence of a small frequency of sterile males after the 8th generation was the consequence of a balancing selection favoring the heterozygous condition (possibly in the females); (4) introgression of genes from one species into the genome of another species appeared capable of increasing the genetic heterogeneity of the population for a long time.  相似文献

GPx1 is one of the most important enzymes involved in oxidative balance so that, we studied the phenotype and genotype relationship of GPx1 activity and rs 1800668 (C/T) site and also evaluated the changes of GPx1 kinetic parameters in the rs 1800668 homozygotes. One hundred fifty eight subjects were recruited after clinical exams. The rs 1800668 (C/T) genotype distribution was identified using RFLP-PCR method. The hemolysate GPx1 activity was spectrophotometrically measured in a reaction coupled with glutathione reductase (GR). The GPx1 enzyme was purified using gel filtration chromatography with Sephacryl S-300 column and, Km(app) was studied in the rs 1800668 TT and CC homozygotes. The results showed that the GPx1 activity is significantly associated to the rs 1800668 (C/T) genotype distribution (P<0.05) so that, the GPx1 activity was high among the CC homozygotes (P<0.03). In addition, Km(app) for TBHP substrate in the TT homozygote (8.48 μM) was higher than the CC homozygote (5.74 μM). We concluded that the C allele within rs 1800668 position is related to the GPx1 activity and may be a potential factor involved in development of inflammatory events.  相似文献

The expression of colour marks (parr marks, red and black spots) of the amago salmon Oncorhynchus masou ishikawae was compared with microsatellite information, to see the effects of stocking hatchery fish on the phenotype of indigenous populations, which face extinction through extensive stocking. A Bayesian-based assignment test suggested introgression of two exotic clusters into one indigenous cluster in the stocked area and its vicinity. The number of parr marks was significantly higher in one hatchery-origin population, which exclusively comprised one exotic cluster. An increased number of red spots in stocked hatchery fish was probably a consequence of hatchery feeding conditions. The number of black spots was correlated with body size in many populations, except for hatchery and heavily introgressed populations. Coefficients of correlation and regression of black spots with body size, which were largest in indigenous populations, decreased with an increase of introgression by hatchery fish. As indigenous populations have low genetic diversity with high relatedness, it was inferred that the height of correlation and regression coefficients in black spots is caused by high genetic homogeneity and fixation of alleles in loci related to the increase of black spots, both of which might have collapsed with introgression by hatchery fish. These results suggest the possibility that introgression by stocked fish causes a change of phenotype in indigenous populations.  相似文献

采用白来航、寿光鸡分别与藏鸡进行正反交交配,F1代进行自群交配产生F2群体,观察F1和F2代中羽色、胫色的表现和分离比例。结果表明,白来航鸡的白羽和寿光鸡的黑羽对藏鸡麻羽的遗传方式是完全显性遗传;麻羽是由两个或两个以上的等位基因决定的,只有同时存在这两个或两个以上的等位基因,才可能表现出麻羽来;决定胫色性状的Id/id基因为伴性遗传,隐性基因id在纯合子时有个逐步表达的过程;本研究证实了所用白来航公鸡胫色性状的基因型为显性纯合子。  相似文献

Wing patterns of Hyphantria adult male moths collected in central Missouri were examined throughout the breeding season. Three major peaks of adult flight were observed: the first peak consisted mainly of adults with spotted wings, while the second and third peaks consisted of immaculate adults. Black‐headed larvae appeared in the field following the first major peak of moth flight, and red‐headed larvae appeared in the field following the second peak. Sympatric red‐headed and black‐headed forms were collected in the field and subsequently reared on an artificial diet under conditions of 16 h light : 8 h dark (LD 16:8) at 25°C. The larval period of the black‐headed form was shorter than the red‐headed, whereas the pupal period of the black‐headed form was longer than the red‐headed. Pupal development is retarded in some individuals at high temperatures in the black‐headed form. Photoperiodic response curves for pupal diapause were different between the two forms. The critical photoperiod for pupal diapause was 15 h 10 min in the red‐headed form, which was longer than that for the black‐headed form (14 h 40 min). The two forms responded to shifts in photoperiod differently. These developmental responses temporally separate the two forms in the field; the red‐headed and black‐headed forms represent a set of adaptations favoring univoltinism and bivoltinism, respectively. Red‐headed larvae fed mainly at night, while the black‐headed larvae fed without a clear day–night rhythm. Nocturnal feeding in the red‐headed form is adaptive to protection against predation, but fails to fully utilize heat units and thus to produce a second generation.  相似文献

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) plays important roles in neuronal development and reproductive action. Abnormal expression of BDNF gene has been detected in human sperm and seminal serum. In the present study, we investigated the possible association of G196A and C270T polymorphism of BDNF gene with male infertility. The genotypes of the G196A and C270T polymorphisms were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium both in fertile and infertile group. The genotype distribution frequencies were similar between infertile and fertile group. The results showed that the G196A and C270T polymorphism of the BDNF gene is unrelated to the male infertility, at least in a Chinese population.  相似文献

The set of possible postselection genotype frequencies in an infinite, randomly mating population is found. Geometric mean heterozygote frequency divided by geometric mean homozygote frequency equals two times the geometric mean heterozygote fitness divided by geometric mean homozygote fitness. The ratio of genotype frequencies provides a measure of genetic variation that is independent of allele frequencies. When this ratio does not equal two, either selection or population structure is present. Within-population HapMap data show population-specific patterns, while pooled data show an excess of homozygotes.  相似文献
