The evaluation of S. aureus resident carrier state on the nasal mucosa among school children showed that its intensity was determined by the ecological factors in the place of residence. Under favorable conditions of the central part of the city the level of S. aureus carrier state was 25.4 +/- 3.1%, while in the northern and southern parts of the city, where most of major metallurgical and chemical plants are situated, these values were 44.4 +/- 4.2% and 45.9 +/- 1.6%. The calculation of the factor of staphylococcal resident carrier state (FSRCS), i.e. the ratio of the carrier state levels in the ecologically favorable (control) zone and in the zone under study, revealed that the FSRCS values in the northern and southern zones were 1.81 and 1.74. Thus the ecological situation could be regarded as critical in none of the districts of Volgograd. The levels of S. aureus resident carrier state were highly correlated to the degree of air pollution, evaluated by the factor of total air pollution, and upper respiratory tract diseases in children. The level of S. aureus resident carrier state may be used as a marker in the ecological ranging of the city territories.  相似文献

The results of the phage typing of 5, 168 Staph. aureus strains isolated in a surgical hospital between 1959 and 1977 are analyzed for each year of this period. The wave of increase in the number of staphylococci belonging to phage group II which began, as discovered in this study, in 1965 and still showed no tendency towards decrease in 1977, as well as the periodicity of rises and falls in the number of staphylococci belonging to phage groups I and III are discussed and compared with the data contained in the literature. The authors come to the conclusion that Staph. aureus is subject to wave-like rises and falls in the number of strains belonging to the main phage groups of the species, and among them the strains belonging to phage groups I and III seem to be inversely related in respect of rises and falls in number, such changes occurring periodically at an interval of 10-12 years, while in the strains belonging to phage group II changes in number occur at a slower rate. The constant account of the percentage of phage groups I, II and III is recommended to ensure rational antibiotic therapy.  相似文献

326 employees of 4 medical institutions (1 regional hospital, 2 city hospitals and a maternity clinic) were examined for the presence of S. aureus carriership. Examinations were made every 3 months for 3 recent years. The results of these examinations were compared with the distribution of the blood groups in the AB0 system among the carriers. Constant and malignant carrier state was detected mainly in persons with blood group A.  相似文献

The skin autoflora on the pad of a forefinger and the back and palm of a hand was studied in 40 healthy males aged 18-60 years by the modified washing and scraping method of P. Williamson and A. Kligman. 638 cultures of aerobic microorganisms, including coccal (55.3%) and bacilliform (44.7%) microbes, were isolated. In 6 persons (15%) coagulase-positive staphylococci were detected. Out of 10 coagulase negative species of this genus, S. epidermidis, S. saprophyticus and S. warneri occurred most frequently on the skin of hands. The highest density of bacterial populations (10.970 +/- +/- 1.845 cells/sq. cm) was registered on the back of hands, the surface of palms was found to have somewhat lower density (8.679 +/- 1.282 cells/sq. sm) and the skin of forefingers, the lowest density of bacterial populations (6.878 +/- +/- 1.137 cells/sq. sm). 17.5% of examined persons were found to be carriers with S. aureus isolated from their nasal mucosa. S. aureus isolated from the skin surface and the nasal cavity of different persons belonged to different phage variants, but S. aureus isolated from the nasal cavity and the skin of the same person belonged to one phage variant.  相似文献

Blood groups of the ABO system were studied in 186 chronic carriers of typhoid bacilli and in 392 patients with typhoid fever from various districts of the Uzbek SSR. In comparison with control (healthy persons), carriers displayed a higher percentage of persons with A (II) blood group (50.88 and 42.64 against 37.51 and 32.13 in control) and a lesser percentage of persons with the O (I) blood group (21.05 and 22.48 against 32.93 and 32.07 in control). These data demonstrated that predisposition of persons with the A (II) blood group to chronic typhoid carrier state was characteristic of the Asian part of the country. In comparison with control, there were significantly less persons with the O (I) blood group and more with the AB (IV) blood group. Possible correlative mechanisms between the blood group and the typhoid infection and the development of chronic typhoid carrier state is discussed.  相似文献

The phage types of 78 S. aureus strains isolated from nose swabs obtained from a medical students in 2005 -2006 was determined and antibiotic resistance of the phage types was analysed. 680 students were tested in order to obtain the strains and 11.5% of them were carriers of S. aureus. Phage typing was performed using basic set of23 phages and 3 additional phages: 88, 89 and 187. Drug resistance was determined by the disc-diffusion method. The most frequent in studied population were the group III (21.8%) and strains lysed by phages belonging to varied groups (21.8%). Highly different phage patterns were observed among strains belonging to each of the group. Strains belonging to the group III as the strains lysed by phages from varied groups were most frequently resistant only to penicillin (52,9% respectively). Resistance to penicillin was also most often observed in the strains belonging to another groups and phage types. Usefulness of the additional phages 88,89 and 187 was in the investigations as no more than 51% of strains was lysed by this phages.  相似文献

A study was made of the duration of meningococcus carrier state, immunological indices and group-specific properties of meningococci isolated from them. The periods of meningococcus discharge were studied in 738 persons. Three categories of the carrier state were revealed: a single discharge (67% of the carriers), of average duration (up to 4 weeks), and prolonged. Greater indices of group-specific antibodies (in the passive hemagglutination test) were revealed in the carriers with prolonged presence of meningococci in the nasopharynx. Dynamics of immunological indices and periods of the carrier state formation in the foci of infection permitted to characterize the prolonged carrier state as a latent form of meningococcus infection. A study of the group-specific properties in 1845 strains and comparison of the group-specific pattern of the circulating strains with the epidemic situation indicated that meningococci of group A were not only epidemic, but also more virulent.  相似文献

The impact of an X-autosome translocation t(Xp+; 14q-), on ovulation, fertilization and embryo survival in carrier sows, was examined and compared with these parameters of normal sows. Corpora lutea counts during week-2 and week-4 of gestation were similar in normal and carrier sows (14.4 +/- 1.36 and 15.5 +/- 2.18) although embryo recovery (11.0 +/- 1.87 and 6.0 +/- 1.47) was lower than that from normal sows (12.8 +/- 1.46 and 11.5 +/- 0.87), at these stages. Among the embryos karyotyped from the week-2 embryos of carrier sows, 42% were normal, 26.4% were carriers and 31.6% were of unbalanced chromosome make-up, and of the week-4 embryos of carriers, 33.3% were normal, 57.1% were carriers and 9.1% were chromosomally unbalanced females. The preponderance of females among the unbalanced embryos recovered at week-2 of gestation (11_ and 1_) and the total absence of males among those recovered at week-4, suggest that oocytes with unbalanced chromosome constitution are eliminated before week-2 of gestation if they are fertilized by Y bearing sperm, and that the unbalanced oocytes fertilized by X bearing sperm survive up to the peri-attachment stage even though all chromosomally unbalanced embryos are eliminated before term regardless of their sex.  相似文献

Although the transport properties of human erythrocyte water channels have been well characterized, the identity of the protein(s) mediating water flow remains unclear. Recent evidence that glucose carriers can conduct water raised the possibility that the glucose carrier, which is abundant in human erythrocytes, is the water channel. To test this possibility, water permeabilities and glucose fluxes were measured in large unilamellar vesicles (LUV) containing human erythrocyte lipid alone (lipid LUV), reconstituted purified human erythrocyte glucose carrier (Glut1 LUV), or reconstituted glucose carrier in the presence of other human erythrocyte ghost proteins (ghost LUV). In glucose and ghost LUV, glucose carriers were present at 25% of the density of native erythrocytes, were oriented randomly in the bilayer, and exhibited characteristic inhibition of glucose flux when exposed to cytochalasin B. Osmotic water permeability (Pf, in centimeters per second; n = 4) averaged 0.0012 +/- 0.00033 in lipid LUV, 0.0032 +/- 0.0015 in Glut1 LUV, and 0.006 +/- 0.0014 in ghost LUV. Activation energies of water flow for the three preparations ranged between 10 and 13 kcal/mol; p-(chloromercuri)benzenesulfonate (pCMBS), an organic mercurial inhibitor of erythrocyte water channels, and cytochalasin B did not alter Pf. These results indicate that reconstitution of glucose carriers at high density increases water permeability but does not result in water channel activity. However, because the turnover number of reconstituted carriers is reduced from that of native carriers, experiments were also performed on erythrocyte ghosts with intact water channel function. 459 blood donors aged 18-50 years were examined in 1987-1988 in Moscow. Among them, carrier state with respect to beta-hemolytic streptococci was detected in 107 donors (23.3%). The number of carriers gradually decreased with the increase of age of the examined donors. Group C streptococci occurred least of all (6.9%). Group A beta-hemolytic streptococci were isolated in 16.7% of the carriers. The isolation rate of streptococci from blood achieved its maximum in autumn and winter months and did not depend on preceding diseases, unhealthy working conditions, the rhesus factor and, with the exception of group A streptococci, the blood group. Among tonsillectomized donors carrier state with respect to beta-hemolytic streptococci occurred 2.2 times less frequently than among donors who had not undergone tonsillectomy. Carrier state with respect to beta-hemolytic streptococci was accompanied by higher levels of salivary sIgA antibodies to polysaccharide A, serum antibodies to polysaccharide A and circulating polysaccharide A. All beta-hemolytic streptococci were sensitive to erythromycin. All groups of streptococci showed the highest percentage of cultures resistant to gentamicin and tetracycline. In 100% of cases group A streptococci were sensitive to benzylpenicillin, methicillin, ampicillin, erythromycin and lincomycin.  相似文献

The Lalko phages collection was used to phage type a total of 517 Salmonella Enteritidis strains isolated from food-poisoning outbreaks (312 strains) and other common sources (205 strains) in Poland, during the years 1986-1995. Above 99.0% of all strains tested were recognized as belonging to definitive phage type. Phage types 1, 6 and 7 were predominant. The strains of type 1 and 7 were most numerous. Of the 517 examined strains 312 were isolated from 46 food-poisoning outbreaks. Most of them came from the one phage type outbreaks; 8 mixed outbreaks were noted. The greatest number of the food-poisoning outbreaks was caused by Salmonella Enteritidis phage types 1, 6 and 7. Phage type 16 was isolated from persons for the first time.  相似文献

Corynephage distribution was studied in the nasopharyngeal washings of 252 persons infected with C. diphtheriae of gravis type, toxigenic (21 patients and 147 carriers) and non-toxigenic ones (84 carriers), and in 468 uninfected persons in collective bodies under different epidemic conditions. Corynephages were isolated from the nasopharyngeal washings only in persons infected with toxigenic C. diphtheriae--in 4 (of 21) patients, and in 21% (of 147) carriers. Phages tox+ (4--6.2%) were revealed only in carriers of toxigenic C. diphtheriae with numerous bacteria in the nasopharynx and in diphtheria patients. Carriers of nontoxigenic diphtheria bacilli can become infected with phage tox+ only together with the toxigenic strains (reinfection). The data obtained indicated that toxigenic and nontoxigenic C. diphtheriae strains were individual variants.  相似文献

Salmonella carrier state (42.6%-S. enteritidis and 34.4%-S. dublin) was demonstrated in subjects after acute salmonellosis as well as in healthy persons infected with salmonella as a result of occupational exposure to poultry (8.8% in humans exposed to chickens and 6.1% in those exposed to ducks) and sheep (2.8%). The carrier state was accompanied by intermittent pain in the epigastrium, diminished appetite, diarrhoea etc. Most of the carrier subjects with a history of salmonellosis exhibited, upon rectoromanoscopy, a varying degree of proctosigmoiditsi. The etiological role of S. typhimurium was proved beyond doubt, as well as its ability to cause salmonellosis outbursts, sporadic cases of the disease and the carrier state. When large industrial facilities specializing in poultry processing were investigated, the salmonella carrier state was revealed in practically healthy poultry--in 16% of chickens and 12% of ducks. The salmonella organisms isolated from carrier persons had, with some exceptions, typical properties, being virulent in that they caused death of experimental animals, seeded their internal organs and induced pathogenicity-associated enzymes. Multiple resistance to antibiotics was demonstrated in salmonella isolated from poultry; also determined was its plasmid nature. Pronounced resistance of the above salmonella subtypes to tetracycline-related antibiotics and streptomycin may be due to the fact that these drugs are used in poultry raising.  相似文献

The introduction of mass immunization against tetanus has resulted in the decrease of morbidity rate (5.2 times), the leveling of morbidity rate among the urban and rural population and among males and females, though no essential effect on the seasonal distribution of tetanus morbidity has been observed. Persons over 50 years of age (housewives and pensioners) have become the main groups of risk at the post-immunization period. Mass immunization against tetanus over a period of many years has ensured the existence of a sufficient immune stratum (89.9 +/- 3.0% to 100 +/- 3.0%) and a sufficient level of antitoxic immunity (means geom equal to 6.72-9.6 I.U./ml) among children. Among adults, the proportion of persons protected from tetanus decreases in older age groups from 82.1 +/- 1.3% in persons aged 31-40 years to 22.1 +/- 2.0% in persons over 60 years. The observed differences between the coverage of the population with immunization and the proportion of persons having protective titers of tetanus antibodies require constant control of the intensity of immunity and its correction with regard to its initial level, especially in persons of older age groups.  相似文献

Coronary heart disease is frequently associated with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and treating obstructive sleep apnea appears to significantly improve the outcome in coronary heart disease. Thus we have developed a rat model of chronic intermittent hypoxia (IH) to study the influence of this condition on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion tolerance and on functional vascular reactivity. Wistar male rats were divided in three experimental groups (n = 12 each) subjected to chronic IH (IH group), normoxia (N group), or control conditions (control group). IH consisted of repetitive cycles of 1 min (40 s with inspired O(2) fraction 5% followed by 20 s normoxia) and was applied for 8 h during daytime, for 35 days. Normoxic cycles were applied in the same conditions, inspired O(2) fraction remaining constant at 21%. On day 36, mean arterial blood pressure (MABP) was measured before isolated hearts were submitted to an ischemia-reperfusion protocol. The thoracic aorta and left carotid artery were also excised for functional reactivity studies. MABP was not significantly different between the three experimental groups. Infarct sizes (in percent of ventricles) were significantly higher in IH group (46.9 +/- 3.6%) compared with N (26.1 +/- 2.8%) and control (21.7 +/- 2.1%) groups. Vascular smooth muscle function was similar in aorta and carotid arteries from all groups. The endothelium-dependent relaxation in response to acetylcholine was also similar in aorta and carotid arteries from all groups. Chronic IH increased heart sensitivity to infarction, independently of a significant increase in MABP, and did not affect vascular reactivity of aorta and carotid arteries.  相似文献

The carrier frequency of Asn291Ser polymorphism of the lipoprotein lipase (LPL) gene is 4;-6% in the Western population. Heterozygotes are prone to fasting hypertriglyceridemia and low high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol concentrations especially when secondary factors are superimposed on the genetic defect. We studied the LPL Asn291Ser gene variant as a modulator of postprandial lipemia in heterozygote carriers. Ten normolipidemic carriers were compared to ten control subjects, who were selected to have similar age, sex, BMI, and apolipoprotein (apo)E-phenotype. The subjects were given a lipid-rich mixed meal and their insulin sensitivity was determined by euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp technique. The two groups had comparable fasting triglycerides and glucose utilization rate during insulin infusion, but fasting HDL cholesterol was lower in carriers (1.25 +/- 0.05 mmol/L) than in the control subjects (1. 53 +/- 0.06 mmol/L, P = 0.005). In the postprandial state the most pronounced differences were found in the very low density lipoprotein 1 (VLDL1) fraction, where the carriers displayed higher responses of apoB-48 area under the curve (AUC), apoB-100 AUC, triglyceride AUC, and retinyl ester AUC than the control subjects. The most marked differences in apoB-48 and apoB-100 concentrations were observed late in the postprandial period (9 and 12 h), demonstrating delayed clearance of triglyceride-rich particles of both hepatic and intestinal origin. Postprandially, the carriers exhibited enrichment of triglycerides in HDL fraction. Thus, in normolipidemic carriers the LPL Asn291Ser gene variant delays postprandial triglyceride, apoB-48, apoB-100, and retinyl ester metabolism in VLDL1 fraction and alters postprandial HDL composition compared to matched non-carriers.  相似文献

Using (31)P magnetic resonance spectroscopy, creatine kinase (CK) reaction kinetics was assessed in the forearm flexor digitorum profundus muscle of healthy young (n = 11, age 34.7 +/- 5 yr) and older (n = 20, age 73.5 +/- 8 yr) subjects at rest, intermittent exercise at 20% maximum voluntary contraction (MVC), and 40% MVC. Exercise resulted in a significant increase in the average ratio of inorganic phosphate (P(i)) to phosphocreatine (PCr) from resting values of 0.073 +/- 0.031 (young) and 0.082 +/- 0.037 (older) to 0. 268 +/- 0.140 (young, P < 0.01) and 0.452 +/- 0.387 (older, P < 0. 01) at 40% MVC. At 40% MVC, intracellular pH decreased significantly, from resting values of 7.08 +/- 0.08 (young) and 7.08 +/- 0.11 (older) to 6.84 +/- 0.19 (young, P < 0.05) and to 6.75 +/- 0.25 (older, P < 0.05). Average values of the pseudo-first-order reaction rate k((PCr-->ATP)) at rest were 0.07 +/- 0.04 s(-1) in the young and 0.07 +/- 0.03 s(-1) in the older group. At both exercise levels, the reaction rate constant increased compared with the resting value, but only the difference between the resting value and the 20% MVC value, which showed an 86% higher reaction rate constant in both groups, reached statistical significance (P < 0.05). No difference in the reaction rate constant between the young and older groups was observed at either exercise level. As with k((PCr-->ATP)), the average phosphorus flux through the CK reaction increased during exercise at 20% MVC (P < 0.05 in the older group) but decreased toward resting values at 40% MVC in both groups. The data in our study suggest that normal aging does not significantly affect the metabolic processes associated with the CK reaction.  相似文献

515 S. aureus strains, isolated from carriers and patients with staphylococcal infection in different regions of the USSR, were studied. Of these, 52.2% were found capable of producing exotoxin of toxic shock (ETS). The occurrence of the capacity for ETS production was the same among the strains isolated from the upper respiratory ways of carriers and from the purulent inflammatory foci of patients and little varied in staphylococci isolated in different regions. The study revealed that in strains sensitive to the typing phages of the International Set the capacity for ETS production occurred considerably more frequently than in nontyped cultures. No essential differences with respect to this sign between strains belonging to different phage groups were established.  相似文献

A mozzarella cheese factory using an undefined, milk-derived Streptococcus thermophilus starter system was monitored longitudinally for 2 years to determine whether the diversity of the resident bacteriophage population arose from environmental sources or from genetic changes in the resident phage in the factory. The two hypotheses led to different predictions about the genetic diversity of the phages. With respect to host range, 12 distinct phage types were observed. With two exceptions, phages belonging to different lytic groups showed clearly distinct restriction patterns and multiple isolates of phages showing the same host range exhibited identical or highly related restriction patterns. Sequencing studies in a conserved region of the phage genome revealed no point mutations in multiple isolates of the same phage type, while up to 12% nucleotide sequence diversity was observed between the different phage types. This diversity is as large as that between the most different sequences from phages in our collection. These observations make unlikely a model that postulates a single phage invasion event and diversification of the phage during its residence in the factory. In the second stage of our factory study, a defined starter system was introduced that could not propagate the resident factory phage population. Within a week, three new phage types were observed in the factory while the resident phage population was decreased but not eliminated. Raw milk was the most likely source of these new phages, as phages with identical host ranges and restriction patterns were isolated from raw milk delivered to the factory during the intervention trial. Apparently, all of the genetic diversity observed in the S. thermophilus phages isolated during our survey was already created in their natural environment. A better understanding of the raw-milk ecology of S. thermophilus phages is thus essential for successful practical phage control.  相似文献

Chromosome aberrations and sister-chromatid exchanges (SCEs) were analyzed in short-term cultures of peripheral lymphocytes of 44 workers occupationally exposed to mancozeb during the production of the pesticide Novozir Mn80 and 30 control persons. The results suggest that mancozeb exposure was associated with a significant increase in the frequencies of cells with structural chromosome aberrations (2.07% vs. 1.10% in the controls), and the number of SCEs per cell (9.19 +/- 1.81 vs. 7.82 +/- 1.04 in the controls).  相似文献
