Length–length and length–weight relationships can vary temporally and spatially, so it is imperative that accurate estimates of these relationships are available. Total length–standard length (TL‐SL) and standard length–total weight (SL–TW) relationships were calculated for eight species of drum (Sciaenidae) occurring in estuaries of southeastern Louisiana. Data were derived from monthly trawl, beach seine, and gillnet collections taken in and around Lake Pontchartrain between 2000 and 2012. Overall TL–SL relationships (ignoring the month) were found for seven species and overall SL–TW relationships were found for eight species. The strong r2 values (all > 0.950, except for one instance) indicate that these relationships are robust and will be appropriate for use by scientists managing these species.  相似文献

Complex diseases caused by Meloidogyne incognita and Fusarium fungus in cucumber is the most destructive disease under polyhouses. The experiment was conducted in the polyhouse of the Department of Horticulture, CCS HAU, Hisar, Haryana, India during summer season (2015–16) to evaluate the potential of bacterial and fungal biocontrol agents against Meloidogyne incognita and Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cucumerinum in cucumber. Bioagents - Trichoderma viride (Tv), Pseudomonas fluorescence (Pf), Purpureocillium lilacinum (Pl) were taken 10 and 20 g kg−1 seed and bioagents liquid formulation, 10- and 15-ml kg−1 seed, were mixed with the potted soil. Chemical as well as untreated check were also maintained. All the treatments significantly improved the plant growth parameter, viz., shoot length (SL), root length (RL), fresh shoot weight (FSW), fresh root weight (FRW), dry shoot weight (DSW) and dry root weight (DRW) as compared to untreated check. However, significant reduction in nematode population and maximum improvement in plant growth parameter was recorded with carbofuran followed by higher dose of bioagents liquid formulation. Among the bioagents, bioagents liquid formulation was most effective in suppressing root knot nematode galling (43 / root system) and final population in soil (131 J2s / 200 cc soil) and fungus wilt incidence (25 %) at 30th day of after germination and significantly improved the plant growth parameters - shoot length (147.3 cm), fresh shoot weight (55.6 g), dry shoot weight (22.51 g) and dry root weight (4.50 g) from other bioagents. Bioagents liquid formulation was effective in suppression of root-knot nematode and fungus complex disease than the powder formulations of bioagents. More studies should be needed in future to evaluate the efficacy of bioagents as seed treatments and soil applications under field conditions.  相似文献

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of NaCl on growth and some key antioxidants in chickpea. Eight genotypes of chickpea were grown hydroponically for 15 days and then treated with different concentrations of salt [0 mM (T0), 25 mM (T1), 50 mM (T2), 75 mM (T3), and 100 mM (T4)]. Salinity showed marked changes in growth parameters (fresh and dry weight of root and shoot). The level of lipid peroxidation was measured by estimating malondialdehyde content. Lipid peroxidation increases with the increase in NaCl concentration in all genotypes but salt-tolerant genotypes (SKUA-06 and SKUA-07) were least affected as compared to other genotypes. The chlorophyll content was also affected with elevated levels of NaCl. Increased concentration of salt increased the activity of antioxidant enzymes like superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and glutathione reductase in all chickpea genotypes but maximum activity was observed in salt-tolerant (SKUA-06 and SKUA-07) genotypes. Two genotypes of salt-tolerant and salt-sensitive varieties were analyzed further by real time PCR which revealed that the expression of SOD, APX and CAT genes were increased by NaCl in the salt-tolerant variety. The enhancement in tolerance against salt stress indicates that the genes involved in the antioxidative process are triggered by oxidative stress induced by environmental change. The results indicate that NaCl-induced oxidative stress hampers the normal functioning of the cell. The efficient antioxidants play a great role in mitigating the effect of NaCl stress in chickpea. This screening of NaCl-tolerant genotypes of chickpea can be performed on salt-affected land.  相似文献

干旱影响水稻生长发育,不论什么时期发生最终都导致产量损失。研究水稻资源抗旱性有助于水稻抗旱改良和稳定干旱胁迫下水稻的产量。东乡普通野生稻被公认为是栽培稻的祖先,对增强水稻抗旱性可能十分重要。对4份来自3个仅存的居群的东乡野生稻与15份栽培稻进行苗期抗旱性比较,考察了3次重复的盆栽土培试验中8个抗旱指标。表明东乡普通野生稻比栽培稻更为抗旱,表现在最大根长、茎长、根干重、根鲜重、根干鲜重比及抗旱指数等6个性状,而不表现在根数及根茎长比;其中茎长、最长根长、根干重、根鲜重及根系相对含水量对水稻苗期抗旱性影响更大。采用抗旱指数和抗旱总级别值法对水稻抗旱性进行评定,结果表明4份东乡野生稻材料间的抗旱性存在很大差异,且来水桃树下居群的抗性最高,东乡野生稻抗旱性可能与其原生境状况有关。结果认为东乡普通野生稻可作为栽培稻抗旱改良的遗传资源。  相似文献

A rhizosphere fungus was isolated from roots of chilli plants and identified as Aspergillus spp. PPA1. The fungus was tested for its ability to promote the growth of cucumber plants in a pot experiment. Cucumber seeds were sown in sterilised field soil amended with wheat grain inoculum (WGI) of PPA 1 at the rate of 0.5, 1 and 1.5% w/w, and plants were grown for 21 days in a net house. The treatment with PPA1 significantly increased shoot length, shoot fresh weight, shoot dry weight, root length, root fresh weight, root dry weight, plant length, leaf area and leaf chlorophyll content of cucumber plants compared to non-treated control. The growth promotion rate increased with the increasing concentration of inoculum of PPA1 applied to the soil. The fungus was re-isolated from the roots of cucumber plants at higher frequencies. These results suggest that Aspergillus spp. PPA1 is a root colonising plant-growth promoting fungus for cucumber.  相似文献

Effects of different concentrations of arsenite, arsenate, and chromate on seed germination, root length (RL), and shoot length (SL) in four seed types, chosen from preliminary tests with eight seed types, were investigated to assess the toxicity of the tested metals. The sensitivities of the four different seed types toward germination, relative RL (RRL), and relative SL (RSL) varied with each metal. In a comparison, the germination of the seeds was more sensitive to the tested metals than the other chosen endpoints (RL and SL). Arsenite was generally more restrictive to all the endpoints (germination, root, and shoot growth) than arsenate and chromate. Lactuca (garden lettuce) was also generally more sensitive to the tested metals than the other seed types. The correlation between RRL and RSL varied depending on the seed type and metal tested. However, significant correlations (r2 > 0.85) of these were observed with Lactuca seeds, which appeared to be an optimal plant with respect to the tolerance of the tested metals. The differences in the toxicities of metals toward different plant species should be taken into account in the bioassessment of metals-contaminated sites. Thus, this study encourages the need to combine the three endpoints of various seeds in the evaluation of toxicities of metals.  相似文献

Effects of localized phosphate supply on the seedling growth of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes 81(85)5-3-3-3 (P-efficient) and NC37 (P-inefficient) were studied using a device which allowed only 3 cm length of root segment to be exposed to phosphate treatment. Localized supply of 0 mmol P L–1 and the rest of root supplied with 0.1 mmol P L–1 (HLH), increased the shoot height, leaf area, root/shoot ratio for 81(85)5-3-3-3, length of root and root axis for NC37, and root axis length and density of first-laterals for both the genotypes, compared to plants with the whole root system in P-sufficient solution (HHH). This suggested that above- and below-ground morphological parameters of wheat were promoted by a localized P-deficiency, presumably via a P deficiency signal. There was a significant difference in the number of first-order laterals between the two wheat genotypes when most of the roots were grown without P and only 3 cm length of root was supplied with 0.3 mmol P L–1. The relationship between the number and density of 2nd-order lateral roots and level of local P supply was quadratic. Maximum number and density of 2nd-order lateral roots were obtained with a localized P supply of 0.70 mmol L–1.  相似文献

Root parameters are important traits for the acquisition of nutrients and water under resource-limited conditions. In order to investigate the extent of varietal differences in rooting parameters in pearl millet, we compared a total of eight pearl millet varieties in two experiments (ridging and traditional sowing) over four years at the ICRISAT Sahelian Centre, Niger. We found substantial genotypic variation for root length density (RLD), root dry matter, and total root length (RL), but not for specific root length, depth of rooting, or partitioning of roots between topsoil and subsoil (>20 cm depth). RL showed a highly dynamic pattern over the growing season. RL and shoot dry matter were positively correlated over P supplies and contrasting levels of field productivity. The relationship between RL and grain yield as well as harvest index were less clear. The root fraction responded to variation in soil productivity, increasing from roughly 20% under high productivity to more than 40% at low productivity, but we found no evidence of varietal differences in this trait despite pronounced differences in maturity and plant stature. Identification of pearl millet varieties suited for growth under low input conditions in south-west Niger can potentially make use of existing genotypic variability in root parameters, but we suggest that, due to high variability for root traits, indirect selection for shoot parameters (e.g., number of stems) is more promising than direct selection for RLD or RL.  相似文献

Iron deficiency chlorosis (FeDC) is a common disorder for sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] grown on alkaline calcareous soils. Four sorghum genotypes were grown in growth chambers on a low Fe (1.3 g/g DTPA-extractable), alkaline (pH 8.0), calcareous (3.87% CaCO3 equivalent) Aridic Haplustoll to determine effects of different soil temperatures (12, 17, 22 and 27°C at a constant 27°C air temperature) on various root and shoot growth traits and development of FeDC. As soil temperature increased, leaf chlorosis became more severe, and shoot and root dry weights, root lengths, and leaf areas increased markedly. Shoot/root ratios, shoot weight/root length, leaf area/shoot weight and leaf area/root weight and root length also increased while root length/root weight decreased as soil temperature increased. Severe FeDC developed in all genotypes even though genotypes had previously shown different degrees of resistance to FeDC. Genotypes differed in most growth traits, especially dry matter yields, root lengths, and leaf areas, but most traits did not appear to be related to genotype resistance to FeDC. The most FeDC resistant genotype had the slowest growth rate and this may be a mechanism for its greater resistance to FeDC.  相似文献

Shoot length (cm), shoot fresh weight (g/pot), root length (cm), and root fresh weight (g/pot) were measured on six cultivars of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv Saluda, C9733, Gore, Stacy, FL301, and FL302) grown at pH 6.0, 5.5, 5.0, 4.5, or 4.0 for 14 days in white quartz flintshot sand. Plants were watered on alternate days with pH-adjusted buffer solutions. All measured plant parameters decreased as H+ concentration increased from pH 6.0 to 4.0. Decreased lengths of shoots and roots were similar among the cultivars as the pH decreased. This indicated a uniform response of wheat cultivars to excess H+ concentration in the soil solution; however, the decrease in shoot and root length was only about 50% as large as was previously reported for sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) 本文采用不同浓度人工海水分别在小麦芽期和苗期进行胁迫处理,筛选不同时期、不同耐盐指标的适合处理浓度,并利用模糊数学隶属函数法计算各指标的隶属值,通过比较芽期、苗期各指标隶属值总平均值的大小来确定小麦品种耐盐性的强弱。建立了65%人工海水相对发芽率与40%人工海水相对芽长两指标相结合的小麦芽期耐盐性鉴定方法;以及在40%人工海水处理下综合株高增长量、根长增长量、地上部干重与地下部干重4个指标相对值的小麦苗期耐盐性鉴定方法。运用这两个鉴定方法可以有效地区分16个小麦品种在人工海水胁迫下的耐盐性差异。  相似文献

The study aimed to identify and select important plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) and examine the response of tomato growth upon inoculation. Inoculation with rhizobacterial isolates increased all the measured physical, chemical, and enzymatic growth parameters compared to control. However, the TAN1 isolate had the highest effect, and significantly (P < 0.05) increased the root length (8.25-fold), root fresh (8.36-fold) and dry (12.6-fold) weight, shoot length (6.92-fold), shoot fresh (7.18-fold) and dry (6.90-fold) weight, number of leaves (11.0-fold), chlorophyll a (6.25-fold), chlorophyll b (10.7-fold), carotenoid contents (8.80-fold), seedlings fresh (9.0-fold) and dry (8.71-fold) weight, plant macronutrient uptake, i.e. N (7.7- and 8.9-fold), P (10.5- and 11.4-fold), K (7.8- and 8.8-fold), Ca (12.7- and 8.2-fold), and Mg (12.6- and 9-fold) in shoot and root, plant micronutrient uptake, i.e. Zn (6.6-, 10.2-), Cu (9.3-, and 10.3-fold), Fe (7.7- and 10.7-fold), and Mn (4.7- and 5.7-fold) in shoot and root and plant antioxidant enzymes, i.e. glutathione S-transferase (10.7-fold), peroxidase (8.1-fold), and catalase (10.5-fold). Our results concluded that inoculation of agricultural crops with rhizobacteria is a very useful approach to increase the plant growth. The rhizobacteria having both 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase and nitrogen-fixing activity are more effective than rhizobacteria possessing either ACC-deaminase or nitrogen-fixing activity alone for growth promotion of crops.  相似文献

A rhizosphere fungus was isolated from roots of bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon) and identified as Fusarium spp. PPF1. A pot experiment was conducted to test its ability to promote the vegetative growth of Indian spinach seedlings (Basella alba). Indian spinach seeds were sown in sterilised field soil amended with wheat grain inoculum of PPF1 at the rate of 0.5 and 1.0% w/w, and plants were grown for 21?days in a net house. Significantly, higher germination percentage and vigour index were observed due to application of PPF1 in the potting soil. Treatment with PPF1 also significantly increased shoot length, shoot fresh weight, shoot dry weight, root length, root fresh weight, root dry weight, leaf area and leaf chlorophyll content of cucumber plants compared to non-treated control. The growth promotion rate increased with the increasing concentration of inoculum of PPF1 applied to the soil. The fungus was re-isolated from the roots of cucumber plants at higher frequencies, while a positive co-relation was found between the root colonisation ability and the plant growth enhancement by the isolate. These results suggest that growth promotion effect of Fusarium spp. PPF1 on Indian spinach (B. alba) are linked to root colonisation ability of the fungus.  相似文献

Effect of paclobutrazol (PBZ) treatment on salinity tolerance of wheat (Triticum aestivum) was investigated on a salt-tolerant (Karchia-65) and salt-sensitive (Ghods) cultivars. Salinity significantly reduced the investigated growth parameters such as plant height, length and area of sixth leaf, root length, fresh and dry weight of shoot, roots and sixth leaf, water content (WC) of plant and seeds weight in the both cultivars. The negative effect of salinity in Ghods cultivar was more than Karchia cultivar. However, PBZ treatment reduced the growth in both cultivars, the differences in plant growth among various levels of NaCl decreased in PBZ-treated plants. Salt stress resulted in high accumulation of Na+ in the sixth leaf and roots in both cultivars, particularly in Ghods cultivar. Against Karchia cultivar, salt stress decreased the storage of K+, P and N in sixth leaf and roots in Ghods cultivar. In the both cultivars, PBZ treatment enhanced the K+, P and N contents in sixth leaf and roots by increasing salinity. Although PBZ treatment decreased the growth of plants, it improved the weight of seeds against stress damage. PBZ treatment reduced the accumulation of harmful Na+ ion in plant tissues while increased the K+, P and N contents. These observations suggest that PBZ treatment may increase tolerance by diminishing ionic imbalance caused by salt stress.  相似文献

Six bread wheat (Triticum aestivum cvs. Kiraç-66, Gerek-79, Aroona, ES 91-12, ES-14 and Kirkpinar) and four durum wheat (Triticum durum cvs. BDMM-19, Kunduru-1149, Kiziltan-91 and Durati) genotypes were grown under controlled environmental conditions in nutrient solution for 20 days to study the effect of varied supply of Zn (0 to 1 µM) on Zn deficiency symptoms in shoots, root and shoot dry matter production, and distribution of Zn in roots and shoots.Visual Zn deficiency symptoms, such as whitish-brown lesions on leaves, appeared rapidly and severly in durum wheats, particularly in Kiziltan-91 and Durati. Among the durum wheats, BDMM-19 was less affected by Zn deficiency, and among the bread wheats Kiraç-66, ES 91-12, Aroona and Gerek-79 were less affected than ES-14 and Kirkpinar.Under Zn deficiency, shoot dry matter production was decreased in all genotypes, but more distinctly in durum wheat genotypes. Despite severe decreases in shoot growth, root growth of all genotypes was either not affected or even increased by Zn deficiency. Correspondingly, shoot/root dry weight ratios were lower in Zn-deficient than in Zn-sufficient plants, especially in durum wheat genotypes.The distinct differences among the genotypes in sensitivity to Zn deficiency were closely related with the Zn content (Zn accumulation) per shoot but not with the Zn concentration in the shoot dry matter. On average, genotypes with lesser deficiency symptoms contained about 42% more Zn per shoot than genotypes with severe deficiency symptoms. In contrast to shoots, the Zn content in roots did not differ between genotypes. Shoot/root ratios of total Zn content were therefore greater for genotypes with lesser deficiency symptoms than for genotypes with severe deficiency symptoms (i.e. all durum wheat genotypes).The results suggest that the enhanced capacity of genotypes for Zn uptake and translocation from roots to shoot meristems under deficient Zn supply might be the most important factor contributing to Zn efficiency in wheat genotypes. The results also demonstrate that under severe Zn deficiency, Zn concentration in the shoot dry matter is not a suitable parameter for distinguishing wheat genotypes in their sensitivity to Zn deficiency.  相似文献

Tilapia production has increased in Aguamilpa Reservoir, in Nayarit, Mexico, in the last few years and represents a good economic activity for rural communities and the country. We determined growth parameters, mortality and reproductive aspects for 2413 specimens of blue tilapia Oreochromis aureus in this reservoir. Samples were taken monthly from July 2000 through June 2001, of which 1 371 were males and 1 042 were females. Standard length (SL) and total weight (TW) were measured in each organism. The SL/TW relationships through power models for sexes were determined. The growth parameters L infinity k, and t0 of the von Bertalanffy equation were estimated using frequency distribution of length through ELEFAN-I computer program. Finally the reproductive cycle and size of first maturity were established using morph chromatic maturity scale. The results suggested that the males and females had negative allometric growth (b < 3). Significant differences were found between SL/TW model for the sexes, suggesting separate models for males and females. Results indicate that there are no differences in growth rates between sexes; the proposed parameters were L infinity = 43.33 cm standard length, k = 0.36/year and t0 = -0.43 years. Natural and fishing mortality coefficients were 0.83/year and 1.10/year, respectively. The estimated exploitation rate (0.57/year) suggested that during the study period the fishery showed signs of overfishing. Blue tilapia reproduces year-round; the highest activity occurs from January through May and size of first maturity was 23 cm SL. We conclude that it is necessary to establish a minimum catch size in this reservoir based on the reproductive behavior of this species.  相似文献

Abstract

In vitro culture of rooted and unrooted olive microshoots, established from seed lines of free-pollinated “Frantoio” and “Moraiolo” cultivars, were evaluated for NaCl tolerance. The aim was to use growth and physiological parameters in order to identify salt-adapted genotypes. Leaf tissue elemental distribution of Na, Cl and K was also investigated in unrooted plantlets by cryo-scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray microanalysis. Both in unrooted and rooted plantlets, increased concentrations of NaCl reduced shoot growth, whereas plant survival was not affected. However, no significant interactions between line and NaCl concentration were found. Elemental distribution showed that Moraiolo J and Frantoio Z accumulated more Na and Cl inside leaves, and that these elements followed a tissue-dependent pattern. Rooting capacity was reduced at the higher levels of NaCl. Significant interactions between seed line and salt treatment were found. Seed lines showed different abilities to develop roots at different salt levels. In particular, Frantoio Z showed a significant and different behaviour relative to the other seed lines at 50 mM NaCl with regard to both length and dry weight of roots. The results obtained suggest that rooting parameters are the most useful tools in the evaluation and screening of salt-tolerant olive genotypes through in vitro shoot culture.  相似文献

A comparative analysis of the effects of anoxia on growth, fresh weight gain, and phytohormones in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings was performed. In both plant species, a total cessation of root growth occurred during the initial hours of anoxia. In an anaerobic environment, the fresh weight of wheat seedlings decreased. An increase in the shoot length and weight under the stress conditions was found only in rice seedlings. During the initial hours of anoxia, the level of free ABA in wheat and rice tissues increased manifold, and the accumulation of a free ABA form occurred at the expense of the hydrolysis of its bound forms. The IAA content in plant tissues also increased. In wheat, the accumulation of IAA was short, but in rice, a high hormone level was retained during the entire experiment, and, as a result, its concentration exceeded that of ABA. A level of cytokinins in the tissues of both plant species was affected by anoxia to a lesser extent than that of other phytohormones. This level somewhat decreased under anoxia similarly to the level in darkness under aeration. It is suggested that IAA accumulation in hypoxia-tolerant rice seedlings under anoxia favors maintenance of shoot growth and simultaneous inhibition of root growth. At the same time, in the hypoxia-sensitive wheat, an increase in the ABA level resulted in growth cessation.  相似文献
