Seasonal changes in length–weight relationships (LWRs), gonadosomatic index (GSI) and condition factor of Mediterranean horse mackerel, Trachurus mediterraneus (Steindachner, 1868), were studied. Ranging from 14.8 to 39.1 cm total length (TL), a total of 1245 specimens (605 males and 640 females) was collected in the eastern Adriatic Sea. Samples were taken at monthly intervals (January–December 2003) using bottom trawls. The b values of LWRs (W = aLb) varied during the year with season and condition. Including specimens collected in all seasons, the b values showed that growth of both males and females was positively allometric, i.e. specimens changed shape as they gained weight. The GSI reached maximum values in June and a minimum in December. The condition factor was constant during the pre‐spawning period, lowest immediately after spawning (September), and highest at the end of the recovery phase (December).  相似文献

Length–weight relationships (LWR) were estimated for 12 species, representing three orders and eight families of fishes from the Paraná and Uruguay rivers in Argentina: Acestrorhynchus pantaneiro, Cynopotamus argenteus, Pachyurus bonariensis, Pterodoras granulosus, Hypostomus commersoni, Pseudoplatystoma corruscans, Pimelodus maculatus, Parapimelodus valenciennis, Salminus brasiliensis, Prochilodus lineatus, Hoplias malabaricus and Leporinus obtusidens. For the last four species, the length at first spawning (Lm) was estimated using three different methods. The captures were made in shallow river areas during 2005–2013. Significant length–weight relationships were found for all species. None or few LWRs were previously available for these species.  相似文献

The present study describes the length‐weight relationships (LWRs) for nine fish species from the Tetulia River, southern Bangladesh, namely Anabas testudineus, Coilia dussumieri, Otolithoides biauritus, Otolithoides pama, Pethia conchonius, Polynemus paradiseus, Puntius lateristriga, Setipinna taty and Sillaginopsis panijus. A total of 1380 specimens were caught using traditional fishing gear from March 2012 to February 2013. Individual total length (TL) and body weight (BW) were measured by digital slide calipers and digital balance, respectively. The LWR was calculated as W= a Lb, where the W is the BW in g and L the TL in cm, a and b are regression parameters. This study presents the very first references on LWRs for seven of the species. The results are valuable for the application of sustainable management and conservation of these fishes in the Tetulia River and surrounding ecosystems.  相似文献

The present study describes the condition factor, length‐weight and length‐length relationships for an endangered freshwater fish species Ompok pabda (Hamilton) of the family Siluridae from the River Gomti in Northern India. The values of regression parameter b ranged from 2.81 to 3.32 (r2 > 0.90). During the pre‐monsoon, the allometric coefficient b of the LWR was close to isometric value (b = 3.08) allometric (b = 2.87), although it suggested negative allometric growth in monsoon periods while positive growth in post‐monsoon. The condition factor values ranged from 0.672 to 0.744. Results of the present study could be useful to help in conservation and sustainable fisheries management of this endangered species.  相似文献

The life history characteristics of introduced Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus L.) in Lake Victoria, including, sex ratio, fecundity, reproduction, weight‐length relationship and body condition were studied and compared with those of other populations. Samples were collected by trawling and seining in the Kenyan sector of Lake Victoria between June 1998 and December 2000. Males predominated over females (sex ratio 1.42 : 1 : 00). O. niloticus spawned throughout the year but with a peak between December and June. Length at first maturity was (mean ± SD) 30.81 ± 0.09 for females and 34.5 ± 6 0.48 for males. There was little seasonal variation in relative condition, which ranged from 0.92 to 1.05 in males and 0.94 to 1.07 in females. Gonadosomatic index (GSI) was low during the postspawning period (July to October) and high during the protracted breeding period (December and June). Fecundity ranged from 905 to 7619 oocytes for fish of 28 to 51 cm total length (TL) respectively. The relationships between fecundity (F) and total length (L), weight (W) and ovary weight (OW) were: F = 8.159L1.53, F = 96.269W0.4504, F = 1806 + 39.4OW. The slope b of the weight‐length relationship was 3.08–3.32 for males and 3.07–3.22 for females. Growth was allometric in both cases and was significantly different from the expected value of 3. The life history strategy of O. niloticus is discussed in context of environmental changes occurring in the lake.  相似文献

The length to weight ratio (LWR) was used to estimate populations of four fish species sampled on the Amazon coast of the state of Maranhão, Brazil. The fishes were sampled in 2018 and 2019 by artisanal coastal fishing, using gillnets (0.20–0.60 mm). The parameters a and b of the equation WT = a LTb were estimated. The obtained LWRs were WT = 0.06LT2.93, (r2) = .989 for Oligoplites saliens; WT = 0.061LT2.57, (r2) = .982 for Peprilus crenulatus; WT = 0.014LT2.80, (r2) = .985 for Bagre bagre; and WT = 0.035LT3.21, (r2) = .981 for Nebris microps.  相似文献

In total, 240 tarek, Alburnus tarichi, specimens were caught throughout February 2008 in Lake Van, Turkey, a lake with highly salty‐alkaline conditions. Ages, lengths and weights of A. tarichi were determined to estimate length–weight relationships and age composition. Otolith dimensions were also determined. Female : male ratio was 1.47 : 1. Fork length and total weight of specimens ranged from 14.3 to 19.2 cm and 45.76 to 99.63 g, respectively. Maximum age observed was 6 years. Length–weight relationships were calculated for female, male and combined sexes as, W = 0.057FL2.582W = 0.102FL2.513 W = 0.074FL2.544, respectively. Concerning types of growth, negative allometric growth (b < 3) was observed for all tarek specimens. The lagenar otolith was large and flat and marks on otoliths were typically clear, consistent and easy to interpret. Mean otolith length, breadth and weight were determined as 2.592 mm, 2.381 mm, 0.0026 g, respectively. While the otolith weight displayed a curvilinear relationship with the fork length, otolith length and breadth were linearly related to the fork length by height correlation coefficients.  相似文献

Nearly 263 000 individual length–weight (L/W) data, collected during 2839 fish stock assessments between 1992 and 2009, were used to calculate L/W relationships (W = aLb) of 40 freshwater fish species from Flanders (Belgium). Roach Rutilus rutilus, perch Perca fluviatilis, three‐spine stickleback Gasterosteus aculeatus, gudgeon Gobio gobio and European eel Anguilla anguilla were the most abundant species in our surveys. Mean a and b values were in accordance with those available in FishBase. Mean b across all examined species is 3.094 (95% CL = 3.041 to 3.148) indicating a tendency towards slightly positive allometric growth in most fishes (thirty‐three species with b > 3). On the basis of a form factor equation, we characterized 2 species as ‘eel‐like’, 7 as ‘elongated’, 22 as ‘fusiform’ and 9 species as ‘short and deep’. This paper adds a substantial dataset to the yet scarcely available a and b values of European populations of freshwater fish species.  相似文献

The topmouth gudgeon (Pseudorasbora parva) is a species that is becoming invasive in UK waters. Few biological studies have been completed on the species in this extended range, resulting in sparse information in some aspects of their invasion biology. Regarding length–weight relationships, this is remedied in this study by providing data for 10 lake populations in the UK. Using fish length range 2.5–11.8 cm, values of a and b in the length–weight equation are provided. Values of b ranged between 2.76 and 3.32. Across all lakes, the relationship was W = 0.011L3.03, with weight in grams and length (fork) in cm.  相似文献

This study aimed to estimate the parameters of length-weight relationship for 16 freshwater fish species that inhabit the Aracá and Demeni Rivers, which are two tributaries of the Negro River (Amazonas state, Brazil). The fishes were sampled using gillnets (15 × 2 m, mesh size 30–120 mm between opposite knots), during 6 days each year, in April 2016, November 2018 and April 2019. The gillnets were placed in the river twice each day; in the morning (5–9 a.m.) and in the evening (5–9 p.m.), with a standardized time of 4 hr. Measurements were taken for standard length (SL – 0.1 cm precision) and total weight (TW – 0.01 g precision). The parameters a and b of the equation WT = a.LTb were estimated. This study also provides new data on of maximum lengths for six species, namely, Argonectes longiceps, Hemiodus atranalis, Chalceus erythrurus, Astrodoras asterifrons, Trachydoras steindachneri and Acarichthys heckelii.  相似文献

The condition, CI = [body mass (g)/length (cm)3]-1000, tends to increase in toads growing in the laboratory on a diet of meal-worms. The allocation was therefore studied of ingested food to growth corresponding to maintenance of standard condition (ΔWS) and to increases in condition, expressing bulky growth. A condition index of 100, typical of toad populations, is chosen to characterize standard growth, higher values expressing bulky growth. The relationship between mass specific standard growth (ΔWs/W0) and actual growth in mass (ΔW/W0) was the same in controls and growth hormone-treated toads and was independent of sex and season. It could be described by the allometric equation ΔWs/W0 = 0.28 (ΔW/W0)1.36, r = 0.93. The composition of mass representing increases in bulk in excess of a CI = 100 was assessed from allometric relationships established between the indices of the chemical constituents and the overall condition index. The increases in condition were partitioned among the organs and parts of the body from allometric relationships established between indices of organs and body parts and the overall condition index. Treatment with growth hormone enhanced growth in mass and significantly increased the relative proportion of mass allocated to standard growth. However, the effect was not specific to growth hormone, but was an indirect effect of the increased growth rate. Water was the predominant constituent of the growth in bulk, amounting to about 70% of increases in CI. Fat and protein contributed about equally initially, 5–10%, with fat strongly increasing and protein slightly decreasing with increasing condition, fat to approach 20–30% when CI approached 200. Increases in water content largely reflected increases in volume of blood and lymph.  相似文献

The present study describes the annual condition as well the length–weight (LWR) and length–length relationships (LLR) of the Asian striped catfish, Mystus vittatus (Bloch, 1794) (Siluriformes: Bagridae), an important fishery in the Mathabhanga River (SW Bangladesh). A total of 2438 specimens (3.60–9.60 cm standard length) used in this study was caught with traditional fishing gear from January to December 2004. Overall, the allometric coefficient b of the LWR was close to the isometric value (b = 3.058), although it suggested negative allometric growth for males (b = 2.959) whilst positive allometric growth for females (b = 3.134). The results further indicated that the LLRs were highly correlated (r2 > 0.989, P < 0.001). The monthly gonadosomatic index showed that the reproductive period of M. vittatus began in April, and ended in August when the highest values of the Fulton's condition factor (K) indicated their recovery. These results will be useful for fishery managers to impose adequate regulations for sustainable fishery management not only in the Mathabhanga River of Bangladesh but also in neighbouring countries.  相似文献

Studied were the length‐weight relationships (LWRs) and condition factors of two threatened species, Rasbora tawarensis and Poropuntius tawarensis, endemic to Lake Laut Tawar. The objective of the present study was to establish baseline data on LWRs of the two endemic fishes. The growth pattern for both species was predicted using a Linear Allometric Model (LAM) of length‐weight relationship and Fulton’s condition factor (KTL) as well as Relative Weight (Wr). The b value of R. tawarensis was relatively similar between females and males, while the b value of female P. tawarensis was slightly higher than in males. Nevertheless, both R. tawarensis and P. tawarensis showed an allometric negative growth pattern. The average KTL value of R. tawarensis was 1.85 and 1.73 for females and males, respectively, while P. tawarensis had values of 2.44 and 2.41 for females and males, respectively. In addition, the average Wr values of R. tawarensis were 98.9 and 100.45 for females and males respectively, while 102.30 for female and 102.96 for male P. tawarensis, indicating that the condition factors of P. tawarensis were higher than in R. tawarensis.  相似文献

Length–weight and length–length relationships are reported for 32 fish species belonging to seven families and 26 genera from the Tian‐e‐zhou Oxbow in the middle reach of Yangtze River, near Shishou City, China. The weight (W) ‐ length (L) relationships were estimated using the logarithmic form of the equation W = aLb. The exponent b varied from 2.60 to 3.65 (mean ± SE: 3.12 ± 0.25). The 14 weight–length relationships, 13 length–length relationships, and seven maximum lengths are presented to FishBase for the first time.  相似文献

Between September 2010 and June 2012, a total 291 (166 females and 125 males) blackchin guitarfish Glaucostegus cemiculus were captured by a commercial bottom trawler (F/V Coşkun Reis) in Iskenderun Bay, Turkey (northeastern Mediterranean Sea). The total length (L) and total weight (W) of the female and male guitarfish ranged between 32.0–165.0 cm and 88 g–16.68 kg, and 34.3–128.3 cm and 112 g–6.00 kg, respectively. Vertebral age estimates ranged from 0 to 8 years for females and 0 to 5 years for males. The growth models of von Bertanlanffy and Gompertz were fitted to the length at age data using the nonlinear regression method. Model selection was based on the values of the residual standard error and the Akaike's information criterion corrected for small sample size (AICC) associated with each fit. The von Bertalanffy growth model provided the best fitting growth curves for each sex with parameters reaching L = 187.17 cm, K = 0.195 year-1, t0 = −1.38 year for females, and L = 144.85 cm, K = 0.321 year-1, t0 = −1.13 year-1 for males. The WL relationship parameters did not differ significantly between sexes, the estimated values of a and b were 0.0018 and 3.11, respectively. By using these values of a and b, and also respective estimates of L, the values of W were obtained as 20.53 kg for females and 9.25 kg for males. The overall percentage ratios of females and males in the samples were 57% and 43% respectively.  相似文献

The relation between length (L) and weight (W) was estimated for 33 species representing 14 families of fishes from El Conchalito mangrove swamp, Gulf of California (Mexico). The parameter b estimated by nonlinear least squares of weight and length data, ranged from 1.41 to 3.68. Length ‐ weight parameters can be used for several biological or fishery purposes to enable the derivation of weight estimates from given a value of length or vice versa.  相似文献

This study reports weight–length relationships (WLR) for Salmo trutta (Linnaeus, 1758), Phoxinus phoxinus (Linnaeus, 1758), Chondrostoma Chondrostoma miegii (Steindachner, 1866), Barbus graellsii (Steindachner, 1866), Barbatula barbatula (Linnaeus, 1758) and Gobio gobio (Linnaeus, 1758). Specimens were collected by electrofishing during summer between 1996 and 1998. The b values in the WLR W = aLb varied between 2.97 and 3.42. To the best knowledge of the authors, this study presents the first reference on WLRs for four of the species in Spanish waters.  相似文献
