Perithecia of Erysiphe cichoracearum (powdery mildew) were found on several, but not all, accessions of Lactuca serriola, L. saligna, L. aculeata and L. serriola × L. sativa hybrid. Their occurrence varied between Lactuca species and different accessions of the same species. Perithecia were globular, had a mean diameter of 125.5 μm and contained an average 13–14 asci. Asci had mean dimensions of 55.0 × 26.1 μm and each contained two ascospores which measured an average 17.4 × 10.6 μm. There were however significant differences in the dimensions of spores and other structures obtained from different Lactuca accessions.  相似文献

Abscisic acid (ABA) concentrations and growth rates of developing soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr. cv. Wye) seeds and pod walls were determined from anthesis to maturation using high pressure liquid chromatographic techniques. Developing soybean seeds contain up to 12,200 ng/g fresh weight of ABA compared to 330 ng/g fresh weight for pod walls. In the developing seeds ABA levels correlated with growth rates, being the highest during the most active growth period of seed enlargement, and then decreasing to less than 10 ng/g fresh weight at maturity. Higher levels of ABA were found to occur in the cotyledons and seed coats than the root-shoot axes at 21 days postanthesis. The time required for excised root-shoot axes to initiate growth in liquid culture decreased as seed development progressed and ABA levels of the seeds declined.  相似文献

Understanding the relative importance of various reproductive barriers to the early stages of speciation is an essential question in evolutionary biology. The closely related killifishes Fundulus heteroclitus and F. grandis occasionally hybridize in a small region in coastal Northeastern Florida showing that while barriers to reproduction exist, they are incomplete. The objective of this study was to elucidate barriers to reproduction between F. heteroclitus and F. grandis in the lab, as well as to quantify their strengths and relative contributions to reproductive isolation. Pre-zygotic (mating and fertilization) and post-zygotic (hatching) barriers were investigated by performing a variety of choice and no-choice laboratory mating experiments. Under no-choice conditions, barriers to mating had the greatest influence on hybrid production in F. grandis, whereas hatching barriers contributed to the majority of reproductive isolation in F. heteroclitus. Under choice conditions, however, pre-zygotic barriers had the greatest influence on hybrid production in both species. The total reproductive isolation that was observed in females of each species was stronger in F. heteroclitus than in F. grandis, and was nearly complete in F. heteroclitus females under choice conditions and was of moderate strength in F. grandis females. These results reveal an asymmetry in the potential gene flow between these two species, with F. grandis being more likely to hybridize than F. heteroclitus in the absence of environmental influences. No-choice backcrosses were also conducted and showed that at least some F1 hybrids are fertile. The observation that pre-zygotic barriers tend to be stronger than post-zygotic barriers in the early stages of speciation is consistent with similar studies in other organisms.  相似文献

When leaves of three Grevillea species were macerated, hydrogencyanide was only released from the soft, immature ones. Thebark but not wood of young stems was weakly cyanogenic. Thegreatest concentration of cyanoglucosides occurred in peduncles,flower buds, open flowers, immature seeds and germinants. Nocyanide was released from nectar, pedicels, dry fruit, elaiosomesand dry walls mature seeds. Addition of ß-glucosidase,and sometimes water only, increased cyanogenesis in young leaves,bark, some seed and fruit walls, and embryos of mature seeds.The endogenous levels of ß-glucosidase were sufficientto release all the cyanide present in at least 80% of cases. Young leaves and germinants of G. bipinnatifida (resprouter)released more cyanide than those of G. banksii, while flowerbuds, stigmatic region, styles, perianths and ovaries of G.banksii (non-sprouter) released far more cyanide than thoseof G. bipinnatifida. The interspecific and intraplant distributionof cyanoglucosides is consistent with the expected impact ofbeneficial and herbivorous animals on long term fitness of thesespecies. The F1 hybrid (G. The structure and development of the reproductive organs andcarposporophyte are described for two British species of Gelidium,G. latifolium (Grev.) Born. & Thur. and G. pulchellum (Turn.)Kütz. The gonimoblast does not develop directly from theunchanged carpogonium, as was thought by Kylin, but a swollenmultinucleate cell of irregular outline is formed first, eitherfrom the carpogonium alone, or by the fusion of the carpogoniumand certain neighbouring cells; the gonimoblast develops fromlong, non-septate processes of this multi-nucleate cell. Thesignificance of the fusion of the carpogonium and certain vegetativecells is discussed in relation to the various definitions ofthe auxiliary cell which have been proposed. Mate location in many mirid bugs (Heteroptera: Miridae) is mediated by female-released sex pheromones. To elucidate the potential role of the pheromones in prezygotic reproductive isolation between sympatric species, we investigated differences in the pheromone systems of five mirid species, Apolygus lucorum, Apolygus spinolae, Orthops campestris, Stenotus rubrovittatus and Taylorilygus apicalis. GC/MS analyses of metathoracic scent gland extracts of virgin females showed that all five species produced mixtures of hexyl butyrate, (E)-2-hexenyl butyrate and (E)-4-oxo-2-hexenal, but in quite different ratios. (E)-2-hexenyl butyrate was the major component of A. spinolae, while hexyl butyrate was the most abundant component in the pheromone blends of the other four species. In addition to the three compounds, a fourth component, (E)-2-octenyl butyrate, was present in the gland extracts of A. lucorum and T. apicalis females. Field tests suggest that the ternary blends of hexyl butyrate, (E)-2-hexenyl butyrate and (E)-4-oxo-2-hexenal as found in the extracts of the females of each species do not inhibit attraction of conspecific males but ensure species-specificity of attraction between A. lucorum, O. campestris and T. apicalis. Furthermore, (E)-2-octenyl butyrate was essential for attraction of A. lucorum and T. apicalis males, but strongly inhibited attraction of male A. spinolae, O. campestris and S. rubrovittatus. The combined results from this study and previous studies suggest that the minor component and pheromone dose in addition to the relative ratio of the major components play an important role in reproductive isolation between mirid species.  相似文献

Two glucosides of coumarin derivatives were separated from sweet potato roots with black rot, by the combination of silica gel-coated thin layer chromatography and paper chromatography, and identified with skimmin and scopolin. The magnitude of synthesis of both bound coumarins was lower than that of the corresponding free coumarins, whereas they were detectable in neither cut nor fresh root tissues.  相似文献

A 7S protein in soybean globulins consisted of at least nine polypeptide chains (subunits). Complete dissociation into subunits, having a sedimentation coefficient of 1.1~1.4S and a molecular weight of 22,000~24,000, occurred in the presence of 8m urea and 4m guanidine hydrochloride. However, it was found by sedimentation, ultraviolet spectrophotometry and optical rotatory dispersion that the dissociation with various concentrations of urea accompanied simultaneously with the destruction of the internal structure of the protein. No disulfide bond appeared to participate in the binding between subunits from the results of sedimentation and disc electrophoresis. These results suggested that the subunits were very compactly and complicatedly folded on the formation of the gross structure, and hydrophobic bond with hydrogen bond also participated in the interaction between subunits.

The dissociation was interfered with the increase of ionic strength using sodium chloride, particularly in low concentration of urea. In other words, the gross structure of the 7S protein was stabilized with high ionic strength. This inclination was also recognized in alkali denaturation of the 7S protein.

Almost all tyrosine residues in the 7S protein ionized with a pK value (about 11), so they seemed to exist in the same state and to be burried in the interior of the molecule or to be participated in some combinations.  相似文献

We monitored the development of intraradical and extraradical mycelia of the arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi Scutellospora calospora and Glomus intraradices when colonizing Plantago lanceolata. The occurrence of arbuscules (branched hyphal structures) and vesicles (lipid storage organs) was compared with the amounts of signature fatty acids. The fatty acid 16:1ω5 was used as a signature for both AM fungal phospholipids (membrane constituents) and neutral lipids (energy storage) in roots (intraradical mycelium) and in soil (extraradical mycelium). The formation of arbuscules and the accumulation of AM fungal phospholipids in intraradical mycelium followed each other closely in both fungal species. In contrast, the neutral lipids of G. intraradices increased continuously in the intraradical mycelium, while vesicle occurrence decreased after initial rapid root colonization by the fungus. S. calospora does not form vesicles and accumulated more neutral lipids in extraradical than in intraradical mycelium, while the opposite pattern was found for G. intraradices. G. intraradices allocated more of its lipids to storage than did S. calospora. Thus, within a species, the fatty acid 16:1ω5 is a good indicator for AM fungal development. The phospholipid fatty acid 16:1ω5 is especially suitable for indicating the frequency of arbuscules in the symbiosis. We propose that the ratio of neutral lipids to phospholipids is more important than is the presence of vesicles in determining the storage status of AM fungi.  相似文献

The quantitative anatomy of developing cotyledons of NAD-malic enzyme species Salsola incanescens and NADP-malic enzyme species S. paulsenii (Chenopodiaceae) was studied. S. incanescens belongs to the group of species with foliar type of seedling development characterized by slowly growing cotyledons and a rosette form at juvenility. The rosette is the consequence of fast leaf formation, which was correlated with a low rate of leaf growth. S. paulsenii belongs to the group with the cotyledonous type of seedling development. A high growth rate of cotyledons, slow leaf formation, and absence of the rosette characterize this type. Slow leaf formation was correlated with a high rate of leaf growth. The Kranz–anatomy in cotyledons of S. incanescens (atriplicoid type) and S. paulsenii (salsoloid type) determines the duration of cotyledon development proceeding for 15 days after seed germination. The rate of growth changes during the developmental period was correlated with the type of seedling development. Cotyledons of a foliar species S. incanescens exhibit 2 to 5 times slower growth changes in cotyledon area, width, thickness, volume of mesophyll and bundle sheath cells, and number of chloroplasts per bundle sheath cell than the cotyledons of a cotyledonous species S. paulsenii. During cotyledon development in both species, the number of chloroplasts per mesophyll cell remained unchanged, and developmental changes in the bundle sheath occurred at higher rate than in mesophyll cells. Thus, these two indices seem to be independent of the type of Kranz–anatomy. The presence of atriplicoid type cotyledons in the species with salsoloid structure of true leaves might indicate a close genetic relationship between these two patterns of Kranz-anatomy.  相似文献

In contrast to earlier beliefs, it is now known that boron (B)can be retranslocated complexed with sugar alcohols in someplant species. Conifers had been thought not to translocatesugar alcohols in the phloem. However, 1 d after applying10Benriched boric acid to shoots of Scots pine and Norway spruceseedlings, we found increases in both the amount and proportionof10B in the root systems in both species. We conclude thatB is translocated in the phloem from shoots to roots in spruceand pine, and therefore it is possible that these species retranslocateB. Paraheliotropic (light-avoiding) leaf movements have been associated with high light intensity, high temperature, and drought. We investigated leaf elevation for intact plants, pulvinus bending for excised motor organs, and size change for protoplasts from motor tissue for two Phaseolus species: Phaseolus acutifolius A. Gray, native to hot, arid regions, and Phaseolus vulgaris L., the common bean. Leaf angles above horizontal were measured for central trifoliolate leaflets of intact plants at 24, 27, and 30[deg]C at 500 and 750 [mu]mol photons (400-700 nm) m-2 s-1 over a range of water potentials; equivalent angles were determined for excised motor organs under similar conditions. Diameters were measured for protoplasts from abaxial and adaxial motor tissue over a range of photon flux density values, temperatures, and water potentials. In general, higher photon flux density and temperature resulted in elevation of leaves, bending of excised pulvini, and equivalent changes in protoplast volume (swelling of abaxial protoplasts and shrinking of adaxial protoplasts). In intact plants, lower water potentials yielded greater paraheliotropism; abaxial protoplasts increased in size, whereas adaxial ones did not change. P. acutifolius typically exhibited greater paraheliotropism than did P. vulgaris under the same conditions, a set of physiological responses likely to be highly adaptive in its native arid habitat.  相似文献

愉悦蓼具有典型的二型花柱现象。通过统计安徽部分地区愉悦蓼长、短柱花花型数量、柱头和花药高度差及结实率;观察愉悦蓼的长、短柱花的型比;结合苯胺蓝染色鉴定愉悦蓼长、短柱花的花粉与柱头的亲和性。结果表明,愉悦蓼长、短柱花的型比符合1∶1;长柱花的结实率较大;自花授粉组合中的花粉在柱头上也能萌发出花粉管,但不能到达子房。  相似文献
