Summary In this study, auxin (indole-3-acetic acid), gibberellin, cytokinin (zeatin) and abscisic acid production were investigated in the culture medium of the bacteria Proteus mirabilis, P. vulgaris, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Bacillus megaterium, B. cereus, Escherichia coli. To determine the levels of these plant growth regulators, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) technique was used. Our findings show that the bacteria used in this study synthesized the plant growth regulators, auxin, gibberellin, cytokinin and abscisic acid.  相似文献

Corolla elongation and the roles of plant hormones in this process in Gaillardia grandiflora Van Houtte ray flowers were examined. The sterile ray flowers elongated during a 2-day period, and corolla growth was accompanied by fresh and dry weight increases and epidermal cell elongation (greatest near the base of the corolla) but not by cell division. Corollas excised from young ray flowers were measured during treatment in vitro with solutions of plant growth regulators. They elongated in response to gibberellins and fusicoccin but did not respond to auxins, cytokinins, abscisic acid, ethylene, or inhibitors of ethylene biosynthesis. Sequential and simultaneous hormone applications indicated no additive or synergistic effects between hormones, but auxin did reduce gibberellin-promoted growth. Analyses of endogenous auxins showed no significant variation, and ethylene production decreased prior to elongation, while a 20-fold increase in endogenous gibberellin activity was observed just prior to rapid corolla elongation. It appears that corolla growth in Gaillardia is accomplished by an increase in gibberellin activity alone, that multiple hormone interactions are not important in the control of corolla growth, and that part of the mode of action of gibberellin is acid-induced growth.  相似文献

It has been previously shown that certain herbicides or plant extracts inhibited the viral infection. The goal of this study was to investigate the effect of Obuda pepper virus (ObPV) infection and herbicide or plant extract treatments on the photosynthetic processes of the host plants to get informations about the interactions of these factors. In Capsicum annuum-ObPV host-virus relations the virus infection slightly increased the activity of photosystem II (PSII), as it was supposed from fluorescence induction parameters. Chlorophyll content of leaves was also elevated probably due to virus-induced growth inhibition. The herbicide Stomp (active ingredient: pendimethalin) incorporated into the soil one week before planting (preplant treatment) together with virus infection even strengthened these effects in agreement with previous observations that this herbicide always did not prevent virus infection or reduce virus concentration in hosts. In ObPV-infected Nicotiana tabacum the structural changes showed similar tendency like in ObPV-infected C. annuum, but PSII efficiency did not significantly differ from that of the control. However, non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) increased because of the strongly decreasing CO2 fixation activity. Though simultaneous application of a water extract of Cirsium arvense shoot caused a little stronger inhibition of CO2 fixation, little loss in production was obtained due to significant reduction in virus concentration. In Solanum nigrum-ObPV relation the slightly increasing tendency of the values of actual PSII quantum efficiency could be related to the probably elevated ratio of reaction centre components (increased chlorophyll a/b ratio) in the thylakoids. Application of the herbicide Fusilade S (active ingredient: fluazifop-P-butyl) at 4-6 leaf stage as a post-emergence treatment practically prevented systemic virus infection and the virus-induced changes of photosynthesis are probably due to inhibiting the virus infection/replication process.  相似文献

Plant growth regulators applied in vitro affected strawberry plant performance ex vitro for a period of up to 4 months. Benzyl-adenine and gibberellin enhanced juvenile characteristics; in general, more runners and monofoliolate leaves were produced, net photosynthesis was reduced, leaf diffusive resistance was increased and, on occasion, flowering was delayed. In contrast, abscisic acid and a gibberellin biosynthesis inhibitor, paclobutrazol, resulted in a more adult phenotype; specifically, flowering was earlier, net photosynthesis and leaf diffusive resistance rates were equal to those of adult plants, and fewer leaves were monofoliolate. Tissue culture-produced plants reacquire the adult phenotype earlier than seedlings mature. Abscisic acid application to seedlings also resulted in earlier and increased flowering.Endogenous abscisic acid concentrations were greater in adult plants and less in tissue culture and seedling plants at 3 and 7 weeks ex vitro, after germination or after adult runner propagation. No flowering occurred at 3 weeks in any propagation type and only runner-produced plants flowered at 7 weeks. At 15 weeks, no statistical difference in abscisic acid concentrations existed among propagation treatments and all propagation types flowered. Because of its prolific growth, oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) can be grown advantageously for phytoremediation of the lands contaminated by industrial wastes. Therefore, toxic effect of cadmium on the germination of oilseed rape, the capability of plants for cadmium phytoextraction, and the effect of exogenous application of plant growth regulators to mitigate phytotoxicity of cadmium were investigated. For the lab study of seedlings at early stage, seeds were grown on filter papers soaked in different solutions of Cd2+ (0, 10, 50, 100, 200 and 400 μM). In greenhouse study, seedlings were grown in soil for 8 weeks, transferred to hydroponic pots for another 6 weeks growth, and then treated with plant growth regulators and cadmium. Four plant growth regulators viz. jasmonic acid (12.5 μM), abscisic acid (10 μM), gibberellin (50 μM) and salicylic acid (50 μM); and three levels of Cd2+ (0, 50 and 100 μM) were applied. Data indicated that lower concentration of Cd2+ (10 μM) promoted the root growth, whereas the severe stresses (200 or 400 μM) had negative effect on the establishment of germinating seedlings. Plants treated with any of the tested plant growth regulators alleviated cadmium toxicity symptoms, which were reflected by more fresh weight, less malondialdehyde concentration in leaves and lower antioxidant enzyme activities. The application of abscisic acid to the plants cultivated in the medium containing 100 μM Cd2+ resulted in significantly lower plant internal cadmium accumulation. Negative photoblastism induced in white clover seeds at 5°C or by lowered water potential (–0.3 MPa, polyethylene glycol) was affected by ethrel, gibberellin A3, benzylaminopurine and kinetin treatments. The effects were different for water and temperature stressed seeds. Malaria remains as one of the most devastating infectious disease, and continues to exact an enormous toll in medical cost and days of labor lost especially in the tropics. Effective malaria control and eventual eradication remain a huge challenge, with efficacious antimalarials as important intervention/management tool. Clearly new alternative drugs that are more affordable and with fewer side effects are desirable. After preliminary in vitro assays with plant growth regulators and inhibitors, here, we focus on biosynthetic inhibitors of gibberellin, a plant hormone with many important roles in plant growth, and show their inhibitory effect on the growth of both apicomplexa, Plasmodium falciparum and Toxoplasma gondii. Treatment of P. falciparum cultures with the gibberellin biosynthetic inhibitors resulted in marked morphological changes that can be reversed to a certain degree under hyperosmotic environment. These unique observations suggest that changes in the parasite membrane permeability may explain the pleiotropic effects observed within the intracellular parasites.  相似文献

Summary Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi significantly improve plant growth in soils with low phosphorus availability and cause many changes in root morphology, similar to those produced by increased P nutrition, mainly depending on root apex size and activity. The aim of this work was to discriminate between the morphogenetic role of AM fungi and P in leek (Allium porrum L.) by feeding mycorrhizal and nonmycorrhizal plants with two nutrient solutions containing 3.2 or 96 M P and examining specific parameters related to adventitious root apices (apex size, mitotic cycle, and RNA synthesis). The results showed that AM fungi blocked meristem activity as indicated by the higher percentages of inactive apices and metaphases in the apical meristem of mycorrhizal plants, whereas the high P supply lengthened the mitotic cycle without blocking the apices, resulting in steady, slow root growth. Developing kernels of the maize (Zea mays) hybrid W64A x W182E germinated precociously following fluridone treatment. Likewise, following premature drying, the kernels germinated upon subsequent rehydration. Tolerance of the aleurone layer to premature desiccation considerably preceded that of the embryo. The increase in α-amylase activity following premature drying was substantial and was equal to, or exceeded, the increase which occurred following normal maturation drying. In contrast, there was only a small increase in enzyme activity, regardless of the concentration of the supplied gibberellic acid, following fluridone treatment. Both fluridone and drying cause a decrease in abscisic acid content within the developing kernels. While this decline in growth regulator may permit kernels to germinate, alone this is not sufficient to permit an increase in α-amylase activity. Thus drying is necessary to sensitize the aleurone layer to gibberellin, and thereby elicit enzyme synthesis. For this tissue to achieve its full potential to produce α-amylase, it must not only be free of the inhibitory effects of abscisic acid, but it must also be competent to respond to gibberellin.  相似文献

The development of Agrobacterium tumefaciens-induced plant tumors primarily depends on the excessive production of auxin and cytokinin by enzymes encoded on T-DNA genes integrated into the plant genome. The aim of the present study was to investigate the involvement of additional phytohormone signals in the vascularization required for rapid tumor proliferation. In stem tumors of Ricinus communis L., free auxin and zeatin riboside concentrations increased within 2 weeks to 15-fold the concentrations in control stem tissue. Auxin and cytokinin immunolocalization revealed the highest concentrations within and around tumor vascular bundles with concentration gradients. The time-course of changes in free auxin concentration in roots was inversely correlated with that in the tumors. The high ethylene emission induced by increased auxin- and cytokinin correlated with a 36-fold accumulation of abscisic acid in tumors. Ethylene emitted from tumors and exogenously applied ethylene caused an increase in abscisic acid concentrations also in the host leaves, with a diminution in leaf water vapor conductance. Jasmonic acid concentration reached a maximum already within the first week of bacterial infection. A wound effect could be excluded. The results demonstrate the concerted interaction of a cascade of transiently induced, non-T-DNA-encoded phytohormones jasmonic acid, ethylene and abscisic acid with T-DNA-encoded auxin and zeatin riboside plus trans-zeatin, all of which are required for successful plant tumor vascularization and development together with inhibition of host plant growth.  相似文献

Two homologous Nicotiana tabacum genes NtTOM1 and NtTOM3 have been identified. These genes encode polypeptides with amino acid sequence similarity to Arabidopsis thaliana TOM1 and TOM3, which function in parallel to support tobamovirus multiplication. Simultaneous RNA interference against NtTOM1 and NtTOM3 in N. tabacum resulted in nearly complete inhibition of the multiplication of Tomato mosaic virus and other tobamoviruses, but did not affect plant growth or the ability of Cucumber mosaic virus to multiply. As TOM1 and TOM3 homologues are present in a variety of plant species, their inhibition via RNA interference should constitute a useful method for generating tobamovirus-resistant plants.  相似文献

Seedlings of the self-fertilizing species Lactuca scariola L. grown continuously in 8 h days did not flower even one year from sowing. Seedlings grown in 16 h days uatil flower buds appeared 96 days after germination were either transferred to 8 h days or treated weekly with gibberellic acid (GA3), abscisic acid (ABA) or chlormequat (CCC) and retained, together with untreated control plants, in 16 h days. Each growth regulator caused characteristic morphological changes in the treated plants. All these plants flowered and produced seeds but the seeds showed distinct differences in weight, in their time to germination and in the seedlings which they produced. Germination and seedling characters depended on the light regime during germination as well as on the chemical applied to the parent plant and the rate of application. The parental treatment also affected the shape and size of the seedlings on a given day after germination, and certain treatments of the parent plant (transfer from long to short days and treatment with CCC in long days) advanced the flowering date of the seedlings. The gibberellin level in the seeds was raised, in increasing order, by treatment of the parent plant with 100 mg/1 GA3, transfer from long to short days, 10 mg/1 GA3, and 5000 mg/l CCC. It is suggested that the effect of day length on plant performance is mediated by the level of growth regelating substances within the plant and that the behaviour of seeds can be modified by the parental environment via the accumulation of different levels of certain growth factors in the seeds. A rise of one growth substance in the parent plant can result in the accumulation of a different one in the seeds.  相似文献

Induced resistance in systemic host-virus combinations by culture filtrates of Stachybotrys chartarum (Ehrenb. ex Link) Hughes Culture filtrates of the fungus Stachybotrys chartarum sprayed on systemic hosts decreased the development of symptoms of different elongated and isometric viruses. The degree of induced resistance depended on the host-virus system. An interval of three or five days between application of the filtrate and virus inoculation was sufficient to induce resistance. High inoculum concentration reduced the efficiency of induced resistance in cucumber against CMV. The content of CMV in inoculated andsystemically infected, induced resistant cucumber leaves was decreased. TMV inoculated leaves of induced resistant tobacco plants contained higher, systemically infected leaves lower virus amounts as comparable untreated control leaves. Reduced virus content and distribution in induced resistant plants obviously resulted from inhibition of multiplication and spread of viruses.  相似文献

本研究用L_(16)(4~5)正交试验方法,研究了基质、穗条长度、植物生长调节剂及其浓度对千层金嫩枝扦插生根率的影响.结果表明,基质和生长调节物质对生根率有极显著的影响,而植物生长调节剂浓度与穗条长度对生根率有显著的影响,4个因素对干层金嫩枝大田扦插生根率影响从大到小分别是基质、生长调节物质、植物生长调节剂浓度和穗条长度.用浓度100 mg/L的NAA浸泡9 cm插穗2 h,在混和基质上扦插,平均生根率可达92%,且生根及新梢抽出时间早,侧根数量多,扦插效果最好.  相似文献

DELLA蛋白是赤霉素激素信号负调控因子,具有抑制植物生长发育的作用。解析其家族成员结构与功能将有助于揭示橡胶树DELLA蛋白家族成员调控橡胶树生长发育的机制。本研究从橡胶树热研73397叶片中克隆HbRGA1的cDNA全长序列。该基因长为2136 bp,含1839 bp的ORF,编码613个氨基酸。HbRGA1蛋白序列包含DELLA和GRAS保守结构域,与杨树、木薯和橡胶树DELLA基因相似性高达82.5%。qRT-PCR分析发现HbRGA1在橡胶树叶片中表达量高,在树皮和胶乳中表达量极低。叶片中HbRGA1表达量受喷施赤霉素和脱落酸等诱导显著上调。本研究表明HbRGA1与橡胶树赤霉素等激素信号密切相关,为深入研究其在橡胶树生长发育中的结构和功能打下良好基础。  相似文献

A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of growth regulators on growth characteristics such as root length, shoot length, total leaf area, number of inflorescence per plant, number of flower per inflorescence, whole plant fresh weight and whole plant dry weight. Photosynthetic characteristics were also analyzed based on the same experiment. For this, various photosynthetic pigment contents such as chlorophyll, carotenoid, anthocyanin and xanthophyll content were calculated. The conventional growth regulator abscisic acid (ABA) and non-conventional growth regulator triazole compound paclobutrazol (PBZ) were used. Root length increased due to growth regulator treatment, but shoot length decreased. Leaf area was decreased due to growth regulator treatment. The number of inflorescence increased in ABA treated plants, but it was decreased in PBZ treated plants. In ABA treated plants, the number of flowers per inflorescence was increased. In PBZ treated plants the number of inflorescence was reduced. The whole plant fresh weight (FW) and dry weight (DW) were increased in ABA and PBZ treated plants. There was an increase in chlorophyll content in growth regulator treated plants compared to control, and it was more in PBZ treated plants. The carotenoid content was also increased in ABA and PBZ treated plants.  相似文献

The induction and reversal of habituation for auxin or cytokinin have been brought about by exposure of callus tissue to low or high concentrations of the growth substance in question. Since the growth rate of the tissues must be measured in the presence or absence of the growth substance being tested, habituation can be demonstrated only in callus. However some developmental processes in the intact plant seem to imply the possible involvement of habituation-like processes in normal development. Evidence for this, and the implications for the action of growth substances in plant development are considered.  相似文献
