Preservation of soybean milk residue (SMR) by ensiling with peanut hulls (PEH) and subsequent utilization of silage by mixed ruminal microorganisms were investigated. Treatments were combinations of SMR with PEH at the following ratios: 100:0, 78:22, 71:29, and 60:40 (fresh weight basis). After eight weeks of ensiling, silage lactic acid, crude protein, ether extract, and non-fiber carbohydrates were highest when SMR was ensiled alone and reduced as amounts of SMR decreased. Similar trends were observed for silage in vitro dry matter digestibility, and gas and volatile fatty acid production by ruminal microorganisms. Conversely, silage pH, dry matter, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, cellulose, and lignin increased accordingly. The ensiling treatment appeared to alter silage cell wall composition. In particular, silage treated with PEH at the low level (78:22) resulted in reduced fiber contents and lignification. The silage (SMR:PEH=78:22) had enhanced efficiency of both silage fermentation and in vitro ruminal fermentation pattern.  相似文献

Sudax fodder was ensiled in laboratory silos without or with the addition of 20, 30 or 40% broiler litter and 6% molasses, each without or with yeast inoculant (Candida utilus). Different fiber fractions were analyzed at the start of the ensiling and at 10-day intervals thereafter for 40 days. NDF, ADF, cellulose and lignin increased and cell contents decreased as a result of fermentation during ensiling. The addition of increasing levels of broiler litter not only decreased NDF, hemicellulose and cellulose, with a simultaneous increase in ADF content, but also extended the time course of fermentation during ensiling. The yeast inoculant failed to produce any significant effect on the fermentation characteristics or on any of the fiber fractions of the silage.  相似文献

A study was conducted to determine the effects of stage of maturity on ensiling characteristics and ruminal nutrient degradability of oat silage. Oat was field grown and forage was harvested at the boot or soft dough stage and ensiled in mini-silos for 0, 2, 4, 8, 16 and 45 days. Two lactating Holstein cows fitted with ruminal fistulas were used determine ruminal nutrient degradability. Regardless of the stage of maturity, ensiled forages went through a rapid fermentation with a sharp decline in pH during the first 2 days of ensiling. Extensive proteolysis took place between 0 and 2 days as indicated by a reduction in true protein and neutral detergent insoluble protein (NDICP) and an increase in non-protein nitrogen (NPN). Chemical analysis of the 45 days silage showed that stage of maturity had no effect on neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and acid detergent fibre (ADF) of oat silage. However, oat harvested at the boot stage contained more crude protein (CP) and less starch than that harvested at the soft dough stage. Distribution of protein fractions showed that oat harvested at the boot stage contained lower NPN, NDICP and acid detergent insoluble protein than oat harvested at the soft dough stage. Results of the in situ incubation experiment indicated that oat harvested at the soft dough stage had lower ruminal dry matter (60.6 vs. 66.4%), CP (81.3 vs. 88.7%) and NDF (35.4 vs. 42.2%) degradabilities than oat harvested at the boot stage. It was concluded that chemical composition and ruminal nutrient degradability of oat silage are significantly influenced by stage of maturity.  相似文献

A study was conducted to compare the ensiling characteristics, chemical composition, and the ruminal and total tract nutrient degradabilities of leafy (Cargill F227) and brown midrib (Mycogen TMF94) corn silage hybrids. Corn was grown in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada, harvested at a target 350 g kg(-1) dry matter (DM) content, and ensiled in mini-silos for 0, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 45 d. Two non-lactating Holstein cows fitted with ruminal and proximal duodenal cannulae were used to determine ruminal and whole tract nutrient degradability. Forage from both hybrids went through a rapid fermentation with a sharp decline in pH during the first 2 d of ensiling, pH in both silage being less than 4.0 after 45 d. Lactic acid concentration was however greater for leafy than brown midrib corn. Chemical analysis of silage after 45 d of ensiling revealed that hybrids differed in their composition. Compared to leafy corn, brown midrib corn had lower neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), acid detergent lignin (ADL), crude protein (CP), and neutral detergent and acid detergent insoluble proteins, but higher starch and net energy of lactation (NEL) values. Results of the in situ incubation experiment indicated that compared to leafy corn brown midrib corn had greater ruminal DM (64 vs. 54%), CP (73 vs. 71%), and NDF (32 vs. 24%) degradabilities. Brown midrib corn silage also had greater DM ruminal (53 vs. 48%) and total tract (67 vs. 61%) digestibilities, as well as greater NDF ruminal (34 vs. 25%), intestinal (10 vs. 8%), and total tract (43 vs. 33%) digestibilities. Type of corn hybrid will thus greatly affect silage chemical composition and nutrient digestibility.  相似文献

The present study aimed to determine the nutrient and energy content of fresh and ensiled grape pomace (GP) from different grape varieties originating from Germany, and to estimate the feed value of dried white, dried red and ensiled white GP by calculating nutrient digestibility and the content of metabolisable energy (ME) and net energy lactation (NEL) measured in sheep as a ruminant model. GP from red cultivars had higher contents of organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), crude fibre (CF), total phenolic contents (TPC) and ME, whereas the concentrations of ash and sugar were lower than from white cultivars. Compared with untreated GP, ensiled GP had increased concentrations of CP (+19%), ether extract (EE; +23%) and CF (+12%) and a higher ME content (+7%) and markedly decreased concentrations of sugar (?99.6%) and TPC (?48%). The concentrations of dry matter, OM and ash were not different between ensiled and fresh GP. Compared with dried GP, ensiled GP had a higher nutrient digestibility (OM, +32%; CP, +43%; CF, +46%; neutral detergent fibre [NDF], +54%; acid detergent fibre [ADF], +69%) and higher energy values (ME, +16%; NEL, +19%). The digestibility of OM, CP, EE and CF and the energy content were higher for dried red than for dried white GP, whereas the digestibility of NDFOM and ADFOM was lower for dried red than dried white GP. In conclusion, the results show that both red and white GP are suitable dietary sources for enrichment with TPC. Furthermore, compared with drying ensiling of GP improves the feeding value of GP and is a good possibility of preserving the seasonally produced by-product of winemaking for ruminant feeding.  相似文献

This study investigated the effect of enzymatic and combined alkaline-enzymatic pretreatments on chemical composition and methane production from ensiled sorghum forage. Four commercial enzymatic preparations were tested and the two yielding the highest sugars release were added to evaluate any hydrolytic effect on both untreated and alkaline pretreated samples. In the combined alkaline-enzymatic pretreatment trials, the highest sugar release was found with Primafast and BGL preparations (added at a final concentration 0.12 and 0.20 mL/g TS, respectively), with a total monomeric content of 12 and 6.5 g/L. Fibre composition analysis confirmed that the combined alkaline-enzymatic pretreatment led to cellulose (up to 32 %) and hemicelluloses (up to 56 %) solubilisation, compared to the enzymatic pretreatment alone. BMP tests were performed on both untreated and pretreated samples, and time courses of methane production were fitted. Both enzymatic and combined alkaline-enzymatic pretreatment led to a methane production increase (304 and 362 mL CH4/g VS), compared to that of untreated sorghum (265 mL CH4/g VS), as  +15 and  +37 %, respectively. Moreover, higher specific methane production rates, compared to that of untreated sorghum (20.31 mL CH4/g VS/d), were obtained by applying the enzymatic and combined alkaline-enzymatic pretreatment (33.94 and 31.65 mL CH4/g VS/d), respectively.  相似文献

The 8,000 biogas plants currently in operation in Germany are mainly fed with biomass from annual crops. However, feedstock from perennial crops such as miscanthus is expected to be more environmentally benign. If miscanthus is to be used in greater amounts as a substrate for anaerobic digestion, storage will become a relevant topic, as a continuous supply of biomass throughout the year is necessary. The objective of this study was to identify the miscanthus harvest time that best balances the simultaneous achievement of high silage quality, high digestibility and high methane hectare yields. For this purpose, biomass from four miscanthus genotypes with varying senescence characteristics was harvested on three different dates in autumn 2017. Part of the biomass was ensiled, and the methane yield of both ensiled and non‐ensiled biomass was analysed in a biogas batch test to assess the effect of ensiling on the methane hectare yield and digestion velocity. The ensiled biomass was found to have an up to 7% higher substrate‐specific methane yield and also showed a higher digestion velocity than the non‐ensiled biomass. The silage quality was best when miscanthus was harvested in mid‐October, due to highest lactic acid content (average: 3.0% of DM) and lowest pH (average: 4.39) compared to the harvests in mid‐September and beginning of October. Mass losses during ensiling (as high as 7.6% of fresh matter for the M. sinensis genotype Sin55) were compensated for by a higher substrate‐specific methane yield (up to 353 Nml CH4 (g oDM)?1) in ensiled miscanthus. This resulted in non‐significantly different methane hectare yields for non‐ensiled (average: 4.635 Nm3 CH4/ha) and ensiled miscanthus biomass (4.803 Nm3 CH4/ha). A comparison of the four genotypes suggests that Miscanthus x giganteus is the most suitable genotype for ensiling as it had the best silage quality.  相似文献

Woody forage is a new feeding resource used worldwide, and silage is the main long-term storage, mediated by micro-organisms present during their processing. The objectives of our work were to evaluate the fermentation dynamics and to characterize the bacterial community of our typical woody forages. We selected four typical woody forages: paper mulberry (Broussonetia papyrifera), mulberry (Morus alba L.), moringa tree (Moringa oleifera), and Anthocephalus chinensis (Neolamarckia cadamba). The materials were ensiled and sampled after ensiling 1, 3, 5, 7, 15, 30, and 60 days. Our results indicate that woody forages have good forage properties with relatively high crude protein content and low neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber content. However, the water soluble carbohydrate content in paper mulberry was considerably low (18.67 g kg−1), which makes ensiling difficult. The lactic acid and acetic acid contents in each of the four materials were reduced after 3 days of ensiling and increased again after 30 days of ensiling, with the exception of Anthocephalus chinensis. Anthocephalus chinensis and moringa tree were well-preserved after 7 and 60 days of ensiling, respectively, with low pH and ammonia nitrogen content. Cyanobacteria was predominant in moringa tree and Anthocephalus chinensis before ensiling, and Lactobacillus became dominant after 15 days of ensiling. Enterobacter dominated the paper mulberry and mulberry during fermentation process and accelerated their poor silage quality. Therefore, the conformity of bacterial community succession with ensiling parameters guaranteed the final quality of woody forage silages, and this might aid in controlling the manufacturing process.  相似文献

Effects of the ensiling process, storage periods of up to 1 year and several chemical and biological silage additives on biomethanation were assessed for maize, sorghum, forage rye and triticale with the aim to identify optimised conditions for silage production of crops used as feedstock in biogas plants. Ensiling, prolonged storage and biological silage additives showed positive effects on methane yield of up to 11%. These could be attributed to increases in organic acids and alcohols during ensiling. A regression model including acetic acid, butyric acid and ethanol accounts for 75-96% of the variation in methane yield. Storage periods of up to 1 year for properly ensiled crops could be possible without losses in methane production, considering the increase in methane yield and the losses of dry matter during this period. However, taking storage losses into account silage additives showed little effect on methane production.  相似文献

【背景】开发生物甲烷资源是减轻化石燃料供求紧张的有效措施,而秸秆类原料的预处理及甲烷生产方法需要不断创新,从而进一步满足可持续发展。厌氧真菌与甲烷菌共培养能够通过假根侵入及纤维降解酶双重预处理秸秆并生产甲烷,但目前全世界被报道的骆驼胃肠道来源的厌氧真菌分离培养物仅有1株。【目的】从新疆准噶尔双峰驼瘤胃内容物中分离出新型厌氧真菌和甲烷菌共培养物,研究其在降解秸秆并联合生产生物甲烷方面的应用潜力。【方法】采用Hungate滚管纯化技术将从骆驼胃肠道中分离的厌氧真菌和甲烷菌共培养,对其进行形态学及分子学鉴定,随后厌氧发酵5种底物(稻秸、芦苇、构树叶、苜蓿秆和草木樨),研究产甲烷量、降解效果及主要代谢产物等方面的特性。【结果】筛选到的共培养物中的厌氧真菌为Oontomyces sp. CR1,甲烷菌为Methanobrevibacter sp. CR1。其在降解稻秸时表现出最高的木聚糖酶酶活力(21.64 IU/mL)及甲烷产量(143.39 mL/g-DM),甲烷生产特性较分离自其他动物宿主的厌氧真菌共培养物更优。【结论】共培养厌氧真菌与甲烷菌菌株CR1是一种新型高效降解菌株资源,其在利用木质纤维素生物质生产生物甲烷方面具有良好的应用前景。  相似文献

青藏高原三个盐碱湖的产甲烷菌群和产甲烷代谢途径分析   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
【目的】分析青藏高原不同类型盐碱湖中的优势产甲烷菌群和优势产甲烷代谢途径。【方法】以不同盐度和植被类型的公珠错、昆仲错和无植被的兹格塘错的沉积物为研究对象,通过高通量测序和q PCR定量古菌16S r RNA多样性分析优势古菌类群;模拟原位盐浓度及p H,比较不同产甲烷底物(甲醇、三甲胺、乙酸和H_2/CO_2)富集沉积物的产甲烷速率,分析其优势产甲烷菌代谢类型。通过添加产甲烷抑制剂(2-溴乙烷磺酸盐),检测沉积物中产甲烷底物积累,确定不同盐碱湖中主要的产甲烷途径。【结果】昆仲错的优势菌群包括甲基/乙酸型的甲烷八叠球菌科(Methanosarcinaceae,11%),乙酸型的甲烷鬃菌科(Methanosaetaceae,7.9%)和氢型甲烷菌甲烷杆菌目(Methanomicrobiales,7.4%);公珠错和兹格塘错的优势菌群为甲烷鬃菌科(Methanosaetaceae)分别占15%和15.3%,及甲烷杆菌属(Methanobacterium)和甲基型的甲烷叶菌属(Methanolobus)。公珠错和昆仲错分别以乙酸和甲醇产甲烷速率最高,而兹格塘错从不同底物产甲烷速率无差异。抑制甲烷产生后,公珠错主要积累乙酸,昆仲错主要积累甲醇;兹格塘错不仅甲烷排放低,也无产甲烷物质显著积累。【结论】昆仲错沉积物中的甲烷主要来自甲醇,公珠错中的甲烷主要来自乙酸,而兹格塘错产甲烷和底物积累不活跃。因而推测高原盐碱湖主要的产甲烷途径和菌群可能与周围植被类型的相关性更高,而与盐度的直接相关性较低。  相似文献

ObjectiveThis study identified the major lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains from different fermented total mixed rations (FTMRs) via metataxonomic analysis and evaluated the ability of their standard strain as ensiling inoculants for corn stover silage.MethodsThe bacterial composition of eight FTMRs were analyzed by 16S rDNA sequencing. Corn stover was ensiled without LAB inoculation (control) or with 1×106 cfu/g LAB standard strain (Lactobacillus vaginalis, Lactobacillus reuteri, Lactobacillus helveticus, or Lactobacillus paralimentarius) selected from the FTMRs or 10 g/t commercial silage inoculant (CSI) around 25°C for 56 days. For each inoculation, a portion of the silage was sampled to analyze ensiling characteristics at time intervals of 0, 1, 3, 7, 14, 28, and 56 days, gas production (GP), microbial crude protein and volatile fatty acids as the measurements of rumen fermentation characteristics were evaluated in vitro with the silages of 56 days after 72 h incubation.ResultsLactobacillus covered >85% relative abundance of all FTMRs, in which L. pontis, L. vaginalis, L. reuteri, L. helveticus, and L. paralimentarius showed >4% in specific FTMRs. CSI, L. helveticus, and L. paralimentarius accelerated the decline of silage pH. Silage inoculated with L. paralimentarius and CSI produced more lactic acid the early 14 days. Silage inoculated with L. paralimentarius produced less acetic acid and butyric acid. For the in vitro rumen fermentation, silage inoculated with CSI produced more potential GP, isobutyric acid, and isovaleric acid; silage inoculated with L. helveticus produced more potential GP and isovaleric acid, silage inoculated with L. paralimentarius or L. reuteri produced more potential GP only.ConclusionThe standard strain L. paralimentarius (DSM 13238) is a promising ensiling inoculant for corn stover silage. The findings provide clues on strategies to select LAB to improve the quality of silage.  相似文献

Anaerobic digestion is a complex process involving hydrolysis, acidogenesis, acetogenesis and methanogenesis. The separation of the hydrogen-yielding (dark fermentation) and methane-yielding steps under controlled conditions permits the production of hydrogen and methane from biomass. The characterization of microbial communities developed in bioreactors is crucial for the understanding and optimization of fermentation processes. Previously we developed an effective system for hydrogen production based on long-term continuous microbial cultures grown on sugar beet molasses. Here, the acidic effluent from molasses fermentation was used as the substrate for methanogenesis in an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket bioreactor. This study focused on the molecular analysis of the methane-yielding community processing the non-gaseous products of molasses fermentation. The substrate for methanogenesis produces conditions that favor the hydrogenotrophic pathway of methane synthesis. Methane production results from syntrophic metabolism whose key process is hydrogen transfer between bacteria and methanogenic Archaea. High-throughput 454 pyrosequencing of total DNA isolated from the methanogenic microbial community and bioinformatic sequence analysis revealed that the domain Bacteria was dominated by Firmicutes (mainly Clostridia), Bacteroidetes, δ- and γ-Proteobacteria, Cloacimonetes and Spirochaetes. In the domain Archaea, the order Methanomicrobiales was predominant, with Methanoculleus as the most abundant genus. The second and third most abundant members of the Archaeal community were representatives of the Methanomassiliicoccales and the Methanosarcinales. Analysis of the methanogenic sludge by scanning electron microscopy with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction showed that it was composed of small highly heterogeneous mineral-rich granules. Mineral components of methanogenic granules probably modulate syntrophic metabolism and methanogenic pathways. A rough functional analysis from shotgun data of the metagenome demonstrated that our knowledge of methanogenesis is poor and/or the enzymes responsible for methane production are highly effective, since despite reasonably good sequencing coverage, the details of the functional potential of the microbial community appeared to be incomplete.  相似文献

Whole crop third cut alfalfa, brown mid-rib (bmr) corn, and corn were chopped and inoculated with one of four microbial inoculants used. Uninoculated silage was the control treatment. Each crop was ensiled in four mini-silos (1 L glass jars) per treatment. All silos were fermented for 60 days at room temperature (22 °C), and then they were opened and analyzed for fermentation products, fiber constituents and N fractions. A fraction of wet silage was ground with a blender for 30 s. In vitro gas production was measured in 160 ml sealed serum vials at 3, 6, 9, 24, and 48 h using the wet ground silage. At 9 and 48 h, rumen fluid was analyzed for volatile fatty acids (VFA) and microbial biomass yield (MBY). In all the three crops, the four inoculants produced only minor changes in pH and fermentation products during ensiling. Of the variables measured, soluble nonprotein N fractions were the characteristics most often affected by some inoculants. At 9 h incubation, in vitro gas production and VFA did not differ between control and inoculated silages, but MBY did. Among crops, alfalfa and corn silages had higher MBY than did bmr corn silage. Among inoculants, three of the four inoculated silages produced more MBY than did control. At 48 h, alfalfa silage produced higher MBY than did corn or bmr silage, and two of the inoculated silages had more MBY than did the control. There was no inoculant by crop interaction. Results suggest that some silage inoculants are capable of altering rumen fermentation, even in cases where effects on silage fermentation are small, and that this effect may be linked to better preservation of crop protein during ensiling.  相似文献

内蒙古自治区二连盆地、海拉尔盆地是我国重要的煤层气产区,其中生物成因煤层气是煤层气的重要来源,但复杂物质转化产甲烷相关微生物群落结构及功能尚不清楚。【目的】研究煤层水中的微生物代谢挥发性脂肪酸产甲烷的生理特征及群落特征。【方法】以内蒙古自治区二连盆地和海拉尔盆地的四口煤层气井水作为接种物,分别添加乙酸钠、丙酸钠和丁酸钠厌氧培养;定期监测挥发性脂肪酸降解过程中甲烷和底物的变化趋势,应用高通量测序技术,分析原始煤层气井水及稳定期产甲烷菌液的微生物群落结构。【结果】除海拉尔盆地H303煤层气井微生物不能代谢丙酸外,其他样品均具备代谢乙酸、丙酸和丁酸产生甲烷的能力,其生理生态参数存在显著差异,产甲烷延滞期依次是乙酸<丁酸<丙酸;最大比产甲烷速率和底物转化效率依次是丙酸<乙酸<丁酸。富集培养后,古菌群落结构与煤层气井水的来源显著相关,二连盆地优势古菌为氢营养型产甲烷古菌Methanocalculus (相对丰度13.5%–63.4%)和复合营养型产甲烷古菌Methanosarcina (7.9%–51.3%),海拉尔盆地的优势古菌为氢营养型产甲烷古菌Methanobact...  相似文献

The feasibility of processing broiler litter by deep stacking and ensiling was evaluated prior to its use as feed ingredient. Fresh broiler litter was collected from the peri-urban area of Islamabad, Pakistan. Broiler litter was deep stacked at 15%, 25% and 35% moisture; ensiled at 40% moisture, alone or with 5% added sugarcane molasses; and ensiled with rumen contents at 60:40 and 50:50, wet basis. Deep stacking was done in 1.2×1.2×1.2 m bins and ensiling was done in 210 l metal drums double lined with polyethylene. Broiler litter deep stacked at 15% moisture showed a lower rise in temperature than litter deep stacked at 25% and 35% moisture. Maximum temperature was recorded at 40 cm depth for litter stacked with 25% moisture. Overall, deep stacking had no effect on the chemical composition of broiler litter. Deep stacked litter was devoid of lactic acid, but the processing was effective in the destruction of pathogens. Desirable fermentation was achieved in all the silages, with significant reductions (P<0.05) in pH and water-soluble carbohydrates, and increase (P<0.05) in lactic acid. The highest pH and lowest lactic acid concentration was recorded for silages containing broiler litter and rumen contents, 60:40, wet basis. No pathogenic microbes were observed in the ensiled mixtures.  相似文献

Pilot-scale fermentation is one of the important processes for achieving industrialization of biogenic coalbed methane (CBM), although the mechanism of biogenic CBM remains unknown. In this study, 16 samples of formation water from CBM production wells were collected and enriched for methane production, and the methane content was between 3.1 and 21.4%. The formation water of maximum methane production was used as inoculum source for pilot-scale fermentation. The maximum methane yield of the pilot-scale fermentation with lump anthracite amendment reached 13.66 μmol CH4/mL, suggesting that indigenous microorganisms from formation water degraded coal to produce methane. Illumina high-throughput sequencing analysis revealed that the bacterial and archaeal communities in the formation water sample differed greatly from the methanogic water enrichment culture. The hydrogenotrophic methanogen Methanocalculus dominated the formation water. Acetoclastic methanogens, from the order Methanosarcinales, dominated coal bioconversion. Thus, the biogenic methanogenic pathway ex situ cannot be simply identified according to methanogenic archaea in the original inoculum. Importantly, this study was the first time to successfully simulate methanogenesis in large-capacity fermentors (160 L) with lump anthracite amendment, and the result was also a realistic case for methane generation in pilot-scale ex situ.  相似文献

Faeces or manure (faeces + urine + straw bedding) from beef cattle given maize silage diets were ensiled with whole-crop maize (27% dry matter), after treatment with NaOH at 0, 7.5 or 15 g per 100 g excreta DM, so that excreta DM comprised 25, 50 or 100% of the total DM, in a factorial design. A control treatment consisted of maize forage ensiled alone. The ensiled products were analysed for the content of fermentation acids, pH, nitrogenous compounds, structural carbohydrates, starch, water-soluble carbohydrates, ash, sodium and digestibility in vitro. Mixtures which contained 25% excreta DM were well preserved with relatively low values for pH, butyric acid and ammonia-N, and a high proportion of fermentation acids as lactic acid. Mixtures which contained 50% excreta DM were generally poorly preserved. Addition of NaOH to excreta prior to ensiling was reflected in a decrease in the content of neutral detergent fibre and increased digestibility of organic matter in vitro in the ensiled products. Mixtures of 25% excreta treated with 15 g NaOH/100 g excreta DM gave values for digestibility in vitro similar to that of the maize ensiled alone.  相似文献

Effects of ensiling and adding molasses or increasing levels of fresh cheese whey on the conservation and rumen degradability of temperate pasture silages were evaluated. Forage from three paddocks of mixed grass and legume pastures was used to make 45 silages (15 silages per paddock) with 5 treatments, including silage without additives (control), silage with 15 g/kg dehydrated molasses and silage with 20, 50 and 100 g/kg fresh cheese whey. The chemical composition and fermentation quality (i.e., pH, ammonia N, loss of dry matter (DM) and neutral detergent fibre (NDF), effluent production) of the silages were determined. Fresh and ensiled materials were evaluated for in situ rumen degradability. Ensiling reduced DM and NDF rumen degradability (P<0.01). When additives were employed, the reduction of DM degradability of the silages decreased (P≤0.03). Addition of molasses led to the lowest pH (P<0.01) and DM losses (P<0.01), and highest DM degradability (P<0.01). The conservation and DM degradation results of dried molasses silage was superior to those of fresh whey silages. In general, an increase in the level of whey increased DM degradability (P≤0.03), but linearly increased effluent production (P<0.01) and losses (P<0.01).  相似文献
