Some carnivores from the late Pliocene (Villafranchian) locality of “Dafnero 1” (DFN) are studied. The site is in the Grevena basin, western Macedonia, Greece. The material is described and compared with other Greek and European samples. Three speciesNyctereutes megamastoides, Vulpes alopecoides andChasmaporthetes lunensis have been determined. The DFN carnivores are similar to those from St.-Vallier (France) and Puebla (Spain). The fauna is dated as Middle Villafranchian (latest Pliocene); more precisely it belongs to the St.-Vallier Faunal Unit, MN 17, with an absolute age of about 2. om. y.  相似文献

Here, we revise all the published and unpublished scimitar-toothed cat remains from the Vallès-Penedès Basin (NE Iberian Peninsula), in order to confirm their taxonomic attribution to Machairodus aphanistus as well as to provide more precise information about its chronological distribution in this basin. The studied material (including dentognathic as well as postcranial remains) comes from the following localities: Can Mata indeterminate (late MN7+8 or MN9), Creu Conill 22 (MN9), Can Poncic 1 (MN9), Can Llobateres 1 (MN9), Santiga (MN9), La Tarumba 1 (MN10), Viladecavalls (MN10), Ronda Oest Sabadell ROS-D3 (MN10), and Torrent de Febulines (MN10). Most of the studied material fits well with the morphologic and metrical features characteristic of the Vallesian species M. aphanistus, with the exception of the remains from Creu Conill 22 (an undescribed partial P4 formerly attributed to this taxon), which belongs in fact to a medium-sized hyaenid. From a biostratigraphic viewpoint, the removal of the Creu Conill material from the hypodigm of M. aphanistus has important implications, because this locality (11.1 Ma) was considered to record the first appearance datum of this taxon in the Vallès-Penedès Basin. However, the report of a previously unpublished talus from Can Mata (late MN7+8 or MN9) indicates that this taxon was present in this basin at least by the earliest Vallesian. Therefore, our results indicate that the first appearance datum of Machairodus in the Vallès-Penedès Basin might be somewhat younger than previously assumed, although dating uncertainties for the Can Mata remains preclude a more precise assessment. In contrast, the new mandibular remains from ROS-D3 (MN10) are likely coeval with those from La Tarumba 1, with the last appearance datum of M. aphanistus in the Vallès-Penedès Basin corresponding to Torrent de Febulines (ca. 9.1 Ma). The postcranial material described from various Vallès-Penedès localities further indicates that M. aphanistus displayed less cursorial adaptations than its purported descendant Homotherium.  相似文献

About 200 micromammal isolated teeth (rodents, lagomorphs) originating from the middle Orleanian locality of Béon 2 (Montréal-du-Gers, SW France) are described. The rodent fauna is dominated by myomorphs (7 species), including the cricetid Democricetodon aff. hispanicus Fahlbusch, the melissiodontid Melissiodon sp., the glirids Peridyromys murinus (Pomel), Pseudodryomys aff. ibericus, Pseudodryomys aff. simplicidens, and Glirudinus modestus (Dehm), and the eomyid Ligerimys aff. florancei. Sciuromorphs are represented only by Heteroxerus rubricati Crusafont, Villalta and Truyols. Within lagomorphs, 2 dental morphs referred to the ochotonid Prolagus Pomel are identified in Béon 2. They correspond to Prolagus oeningensis (König) and P. aff. vasconiensis. On a biostratigraphical point of view, this study confirms the location of Béon 2 at the early part of the MN4; this locality is older than other regional sites such as Pellecahus, Béon 1, La Romieu, and Bézian (MN4b), and it is coeval to Artenay, in the Loire basin. In particular, glirids and lagomorphs from Béon 2 testify to close relationships with micromammal localities referred to the MN3 biozone.  相似文献

The material of Eomyidae from three localities (Morteral 1, Morteral 20A and Morteral 22) of the Morteral section in the Magro Basin, eastern Spain, is described. These localities contain remains of Ligerimys and Eomyops. Morteral 1 is situated in the lowest part of the section and contains Ligerimys ellipticus, whereas Morteral 20A and Morteral 22 are situated in the middle part of the section and contain, among other rodent species, Eomyops noeliae. The youngest localities in the Morteral section (Morteral 41 and 44) record Megacricetodon collongensis, first representative of Megacricetodon in the Middle Miocene (MN5). The locality Morteral 20A contains Megacricetodon primitivus; Morteral 1 and Morteral 22 contain a form of Megacricetodon different from both M. primitivus and M. collongensis, therefore, these three localities are of lower Aragonian age (MN4). In the Aragonian type area, L. ellipticus is rare in zone B (lower part of MN4) and frequent in zone C (upper part of MN4). The first record of Eomyops in the Aragonian type area occurs in MN7/8 and in MN5 in Central Europe. The turnover of eomyid faunas in MN4 localities of the Morteral section clearly confirms the hypothesis of Engesser (1999) that Eomyops may have appeared earlier than supposed so far (MN5).  相似文献

The taxonomy of the freshwater turtle subgenus Ptychogaster (Temnoclemmys) (Testudines, Geoemydidae, Ptychogasterinae) is revised based on new and previously-published material from the Vallès-Penedès Basin (NE Iberian Peninsula). Additional remains of subgenus Ptychogaster, first reported from this basin, are also described. Although the oldest remains of Temnoclemmys are left unassigned, most of the available remains are attributed to its type species, Ptychogaster (Temnoclemmys) batalleri, originally described from the Late Miocene (MN9 and MN10) of this basin. The new material expands the chronostratigraphic range of P. batalleri in the Vallès-Penedès Basin back to the MN7 + 8 and shows that “Testudo” celonica is its junior synonym. Emended diagnoses for Ptychogaster and Temnoclemmys are also provided.  相似文献

Three Megacricetodon species are recognized in the Middle Miocene locality of Blanquatère 1 (Languedoc-Roussillon province, France). Two are new, the small-sized M. tautavelensis nov. sp. the medium to large-sized M. aunayi nov. sp., the third one being the already known M. “collongensis-gersii”, a medium-sized species found in other Miocene localities of the area. Size and morphology differentiate these species. Such a high number of contemporaneous species of the genus Megacricetodon is found for the first time in a Miocene locality in the region and indicate that the evolution of this genus in western Europe is likely more complicated. It may testify both of a biogeographical differentiation and of migration events. According to our calibration charts, the deposit is dated ca. 16 Ma ago. The position of Vieux-Collonges (MN 5) and Sansan (MN 6) on the biochronological scale is also discussed, as well as the estimated age of the biozonal boundaries MN 3/MN 4, MN 4/MN 5 and MN 5/MN 6.  相似文献

The biochronological age of the small-mammal populations of Los Gargantones 1, 2 and La Celia (upper Miocene, La Celia sub-basin, Murcia, Spain) is re-interpreted. The presence in Los Gargantones of Occitanomys adroveri, Parapodemus barbarae, Parapodemus cf. gaudryi, Huerzelerimys turoliensis, Atlantoxerus cf. adroveri, and Alilepus evidences a correlation to MN12 (∼7.5–7 Ma) rather than to MN11 (∼9–7.5 Ma), as inferred previously. The assemblage corresponds to that of the more eastern, near-coast sites of Crevillente 8 and 15, situated in the Alicante area. The stratigraphically highest site of La Celia contains Hispanomys adroveri, a species also indicative of MN12. The presence of Castromys cf. littoralis together with an advanced O. adroveri points to a slightly younger age than that of Los Gargantones, approaching that of MN13 sites. The assemblage best matches that of Crevillente 17. Other species described in this paper are Prolagus crusafonti, Prolagus sp., Parasorex cf. ibericus, Panelimnoecus cf. repenningi, and Blarinella aut Petenyia sp. indet.  相似文献

Unpublished rhinocerotid remains from the Lower and Middle Siwaliks of Pakistan are described in this paper and recognized as two species of Alicornops. Alicornops complanatum (Heissig) is identified in the Dhok Pathan Formation of the Middle Siwaliks and Alicornops laogouense Deng in the Kamlial Formation of the Lower Siwaliks. The Dhok Pathan Formation levels with A. complanatum are roughly correlated with the late Miocene-Pliocene European mammal zones MN10-15. In turn, levels with A. laogouense of the Kamlial Formation would correlate with the middle–late Aragonian (middle Miocene) European MN5. The recognition of the Chinese species A. laogouense in the Potwar Plateau represents the first discovery of this taxon in Pakistan and increases the geographical and stratigraphic distributions of this species, and adds to the rhinocerotid association from the Siwaliks. In turn, the presence of A. complanatum in the Siwaliks of Potwar Plateau also enlarges its geographic distribution in Pakistan, as it was previously known from the Bugti Hills of Balouchistan. The absence of Alicornops from the Siwaliks in the Chinji and Nagri formations (between late MN5 and MN9 zones) might be due to an inadequate fossil record, as other rhinocerotid species are known from Kamlial to Dhok Pathan formations. However, the two recorded species of Alicornops could also reveal two independent migration waves as supported by the appearance of other taxa in different formations. A summary of fossil Cenozoic rhinocerotids from different areas of Pakistan is also presented.  相似文献

In this paper, two new species of Cricetidae, Hispanomys adroveri nov. sp. and Kowalskia meini nov. sp., from the locality of Casa del Acero (Fortuna basin, Middle Turolian, MN 12) are described. They have, in general, less evolved characters than their vicariant pairs in the Central Spain basins Ruscinomys schaubi and Kowalskia fahlbuschi. The latter is interpreted as being the result of the presence of more humid conditions in the Levant province than in the Interior basins.  相似文献

Among the 14 small mammal species from the early Miocene locality of the northern area of the Junggar basin (northern Xinjiang, China), four species are cricetids (Rodentia): unnamed species of Cricetodon and Eumyarion, and two new species, Karydomys debruijni nov. sp. and Megacricetodon beijiangensis nov. sp. Some aspects of the morphology of Cricetodon sp. are shared by Eucricetodon from the late Oligocene, suggesting that these specimens could be of intermediate form between Eucricetodon and Cricetodon. One tooth of Eumyarion sp. was found, making its determination uncertain, but its morphology is clearly differentiated from the one of Cricetodon sp. The species K. debruijni nov. sp. is established based on its primitive features compared to the species known in Europe and Anatolia, and its specific association of characters compared to Karydomys dzerzhinskii. M. beijiangensis nov. sp. shows many plesiomorphic features compared to the species already described in the middle Miocene of China. Based on both the whole assemblage of rodents and the species of cricetids, the biochronologic position and the age of the locality are discussed. The locality appears to be biochronologically very close to the fauna from the Chul’adyr Formation in Aktau Mountains, but we propose an age slightly older than the one proposed for this fauna, probably equivalent to the MN3 biozone in Europe.  相似文献

The Lower Miocene deposits of the Bardenas Reales of Navarre (NW Ebro Basin, northern Iberian Peninsula) have yielded a diverse vertebrate fauna, including remains of amphibians and reptiles. These remains occur in several localities in the Tudela Formation. The fossiliferous levels belong to the Biozones MN2b-3 (Biozones Z-A of the Ramblian, i.e., Late Aquitanian to Early Burdigalian in age). The amphibians and reptiles represent at least 13 out of 37 vertebrate species. Amphibians consist of a salamandrid urodele and two or three anurans. All the turtles are cryptodirans and consist of the chelydrid Chelydropsis apellanizi, the testudinids Ptychogaster (Temnoclemmys) bardenensis and Ptychogaster ronheimensis, and a Trionychinae indet. Squamates are represented by the anguid lizard Ophisaurus sp., a non-anguid lacertilian, an amphisbaenian, the erycine boid? Eryx sp., and indeterminate colubrids. Crocodilian remains are assigned to the basal alligatoroid Diplocynodon sp. The fossil associations of the Bardenas Reales of Navarre suggest that the vertebrates lived in the centre of an endoreic basin with stretches of water under intertropical to subtropical climatic conditions.  相似文献

The Bavarian fissure filling Petersbuch 28 (Germany, Lower Miocene, MN 3/4) yielded a diverse assemblage of shrews. Soricella discrepans Doben-Florin, 1964 and Paenelimnoecus micromorphus (Doben-Florin, 1964) show bimodal size distributions in some dental elements, which is interpreted as the result of a small time averaging. Two upper incisor types of Miosorex desnoyersianus (Lartet, 1851) were found, also indicating two populations of slightly different times. Apart from these, the fissure yielded Heterosorex neumayrianus (Schlosser, 1887), the only heterosoricid present, Lartetium petersbuchense Ziegler, 1989, L. cf. prevostianum (Lartet, 1851) and Florinia stehlini (Doben-Florin, 1964). The shrews confirm that Petersbuch 28 represents a time period near the MN 3/MN 4 transition. Thus, it fills the gap between the classical localities of Wintershof-West and Petersbuch 2. The two species of Lartetium Ziegler, 1989 are possible immigrants.  相似文献

We describe crocodylian remains from the Early Miocene (MN4) site of Els Casots (Subirats, Vallès-Penedès Basin, NE of the Iberian Peninsula). Referral to Diplocynodon (Alligatoroidea: Diplocynodontidae) is justified by several cranial and postcranial features, including: (1) the subequal and confluent alveoli of the maxilla (fourth and fifth) and dentary (third and fourth); (2) the position of the foramen aëreum on the quadrate; (3) the small and ventrally reflected medial hemicondyle of the quadrate; (4) the distinct dorsoventral step on the frontal; and (5) the bipartite ventral osteoderms. Multiple morphological features are consistent with an attribution to Diplocynodon ratelii, previously known from the Early Miocene (MN2) of France, and discount an alternative attribution to other species of the genus, including Diplocynodon ungeri from the Middle Miocene (MN5) of Austria. The described material from Els Casots is smaller in size than the French material of D. ratelii, possibly reflecting an earlier ontogenetic stage. The described remains constitute the first report of D. ratelii and the youngest record of Diplocynodon in the Iberian Peninsula, where only Diplocynodon muelleri and Diplocynodon tormis have been previously reported. The presence of Diplocynodon further supports the lacustrine depositional environment previously inferred for Els Casots and also indicates a relatively high temperature.  相似文献

Gobiocerus mongolicus Sokolov, 1952, Turcocerus kekemaidengensis Ye Jie et al., 1999; and Hypsodontus sp. were recorded in Miocene deposits of the Valley of Lakes (MN4-MN8) and Oioceros atropatenes (Rodler et Weithofer, 1890) occurred in the Mio-Pliocene (MN11-MN20) of northwestern Mongolia. Gobiocerus, Turcocerus, and Hypsodontus represent the same evolutionary lineage. Thus, Caprinae existed in Central Asia in the Early Miocene. They diverged from the Bovidae at the Oligocene-Miocene boundary. The presence of early bovids in this region suggests that this group could have appeared in Central Asia.  相似文献

Nine species ofCarychium and one species ofCarychiopsis are described from calcareous intercalations within lignite sequences in the brown coal mine of Be?chatów. Three stratigraphically different levels (Be?-A, Be?-B and Be?-C) containing land snail remains have been referred to the biostratigraphic zones MN 4 — MN 9. Three new species are reported:Carychiopsis prisyazhnyuki, Carychium achimszulci andC. surai.  相似文献

The Faluns Auger quarry (Contres, France) is famous for its Langhian mammal fauna (MN5) and tragulid remains have been identified as Dorcatherium sp. New excavations provided a fragmented skull of a tragulid, dental remains, and a metapodium which we describe here. Based on morphological and morphometrical characters, these specimens are attributed to Dorcatherium crassum. CT-scans provide insight in the petrosal bone and bony labyrinth. We prove intra-population variability of the p4 and intra-specific variability of the bony labyrinth. Nevertheless, we can demonstrate that the bony labyrinth is useful for systematics. Thus, we confirm the presence of D. crassum in the Pontlevoy–Thenay and Savigné-sur-Lathan Faluns Basins as reported already prior to our study. Yet, we cannot confirm evidence for Dorcatherium naui. D. naui specimens reported from these basins may belong to another species. D. naui should be absent from the Faluns before MN7, such as in the rest of Europe.  相似文献

The agents of meningopneumonitis (MN) and of trachoma (TR) purified from chick embryo allantoic fluids and yolk sacs, respectively, were shown to produce CO2 from the C1 positions of pyruvate and glutamate, but not from the other carbon atoms. The reaction with pyruvate did not require did not require the addition of cofactors, but was stimulated to a small extent by α-lipoic acid and, in the case of TR, also by diphosphothiamine, and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). The reaction of MN with glutamate was greatly stimulated by the addition of NAD and pyruvate, and resulted in the accumulation of alanine. The reaction of TR with glutamate was also greatly enhanced by added NAD, but was not affected by added pyruvate. When eight intermediates of the citric acid cycle were added to MN cells incubated with glutamate-C14, plus NAD and pyruvate, they reduced to varying degrees the evolution of C14O2. It was shown by chromatography that the C14 label extended to α-ketoglutarate and succinate, but not to fumarate and malate. A net gain in adenosine triphosphate could not be demonstrated in MN cells incubated with combined glutamate, pyruvate, oxaloacetate, and various cofactors. These results furnish additional examples of real or apparent gaps in enzyme sequences in Chlamydia.  相似文献
