The process of collision of ion-acoustic solitary waves in a collisionless plasma with cold ions and Boltzmann electrons is studied using numerical simulations. It is shown that solitary waves with sufficiently large amplitudes do not preserve their identity after the collision. Their amplitudes decrease, and the shapes change. It is found that the collision is accompanied by the generation of fast ions with velocities exceeding threefold the ion sound speed.  相似文献

The formation and propagation of small-amplitude heavy-ion-acoustic (HIA) solitary waves and double layers in an unmagnetized collisionless multicomponent plasma system consisting of superthermal electrons, Boltzmann distributed light ions, and adiabatic positively charged inertial heavy ions are theoretically investigated. The reductive perturbation technique is employed to derive the modified Korteweg–de Vries (mKdV) and standard Gardner (SG) equations. The solitary wave (SW) solution of mKdV and SG equations, as well as double layers (DLs) solution of SG equation, is studied for analysis of higher order nonlinearity. It is found that the plasma system under consideration supports positive and negative potential Gardner solitons, but only positive potential mKdV solitons. In addition, it is shown that, the basic properties of HIA mKdV and Gardner solitons and DLs (viz. polarity, amplitude, width, and phase speed) are incomparably influenced by the adiabaticity effect of heavy ions and the superthermality effect of electrons. The relevance of the present findings to the system of space plasmas, as well as to the system of researchers interest, is specified.  相似文献

The propagation of ion-acoustic solitary waves (IASWs) in a magnetized collisionless degenerate plasma system for describing collective plasma oscillations in dense quantum plasmas with relativistically degenerate electrons, oppositely charged inertial ions, and positively charged immobile heavy elements is investigated theoretically. The perturbations of the magnetized quantum plasma are studied employing the reductive perturbation technique to derive the Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) and the modified KdV (mKdV) equations that admit solitary wave solutions. Chandrasekhar limits are used to investigate the degeneracy effects of interstellar compact objects through the equation of state for degenerate electrons in nonrelativistic and ultrarelativistic cases. The basic properties of small but finite-amplitude IASWs are modified significantly by the combined effects of the degenerate electron number density, pair ion number density, static heavy element number density, and magnetic field. It is found that the obliqueness affects both the amplitude and width of the solitary waves, whereas the other parameters mainly influence the width of the solitons. The results presented in this paper can be useful for future investigations of astrophysical multi-ion plasmas.  相似文献

A new class of nonlinear waves in plasma??supernonlinear waves (SNWs) characterized by the nontrivial topology of their phase portraits??has been revealed. The topological classification of such waves is given, and suitable notation for them is proposed. It is demonstrated using several examples that SNWs can exist in the form of plasma waves of different physical nature, e.g., electrostatic (ion-acoustic) and MHD (Alfvén) waves. It is shown that a necessary condition for the existence of SNWs is the presence of at least three different charged plasma components (electrons, positrons, ions, dust grains, etc.). As the number of plasma components increases, the topology of the SNW phase portrait becomes more complicated. Typical indications of SNWs are given, which make is possible to easily reveal such waves experimentally.  相似文献

Actin polymerization is typically initiated at specific sites in a cell by membrane-bound protein complexes, and the resulting structures are involved in specialized cellular functions, such as migration, particle uptake, or mitotic division. Here we analyze the potential of the actin system to self-organize into waves that propagate on the planar, substrate-attached membrane of a cell. We show that self-assembly involves the ordered recruitment of proteins from the cytoplasmic pool and relate the organization of actin waves to their capacity for applying force. Three proteins are shown to form distinct three-dimensional patterns in the actin waves. Myosin-IB is enriched at the wave front and close to the plasma membrane, the Arp2/3 complex is distributed throughout the waves, and coronin forms a sloping layer on top of them. CARMIL, a protein that links myosin-IB to the Arp2/3 complex, is also recruited to the waves. Wave formation does not depend on signals transmitted by heterotrimeric G-proteins, nor does their propagation require SCAR, a regulator upstream of the Arp2/3 complex. Propagation of the waves is based on an actin treadmilling mechanism, indicating a program that couples actin assembly to disassembly in a three-dimensional pattern. When waves impinge on the cell perimeter, they push the edge forward; when they reverse direction, the cell border is paralyzed. These data show that force-generating, highly organized supramolecular networks are autonomously formed in live cells from molecular motors and proteins controlling actin polymerization and depolymerization.  相似文献

The dispersion properties and field distribution of plasma waves in a periodic plasma-filled waveguide are correctly analyzed for the first time with allowance for all spatial harmonics. It is shown that the plasma wave spectrum has a zonal structure and a lower cutoff frequency. The widths of the forbidden bands and the lower cutoff frequency are determined by the waveguide corrugation depth. For a planar periodic plasma-filled waveguide, the allowed and forbidden frequency bands are evaluated analytically. The waveguide periodicity substantially influences the field of the plasma waves at frequencies close to the forbidden bands. This leads to the formation of regions in which the energy density of plasma waves exceeds the average level by more than one order of magnitude. This effect is related to the contribution from the higher spatial harmonics.  相似文献

Incoherent scattering of a probing wave by Langmuir fluctuations trapped and enhanced near a local minimum of the electron density (plasma density well) in plasma with a parabolic density profile is considered. Steady-state amplitudes of fluctuations are calculated for arbitrary velocity distribution functions of plasma particles with allowance for electron collisions. It is shown that quasi-periodic oscillations with two characteristic scales can be present in the spectrum of the plasma line. The smaller scale is due to the wellknown effect of discretization of the spectrum of Langmuir fluctuations in a plasma density well. The larger scale is associated with the generation of scattered waves in two spatial regions and subsequent interference of these waves at the exit from the density well. Oscillations with this scale are more stable under unsteady plasma conditions and can be more often observed in experiments. The results of this work can be used to experimentally determine the plasma parameters, such as the electron collision frequency and the size and lifetime of the plasma density well.  相似文献

A theory of nonpotential surface waves in plasma with smooth boundaries is developed. The complex frequencies of surface waves for plasma systems of different geometries and different profiles of the plasma density are calculated. Expressions for the rates of collisionless damping of surface waves due to their resonance interaction with local plasma waves of continuous spectrum are obtained. Propagation of whistler-mode waves in magnetized plasma in the presence of small-scale field-aligned irregularities with enhanced or depressed plasma density is simulated numerically. The numerical experiments have demonstrated the effect of guided propagation of whistler-mode waves in plasma regions occupied by irregularities with transverse dimensions smaller than the whistler wavelength in uniform plasma. It is shown that not only individual irregularities but also the entire modified region, which serves as a specific guiding structure, exhibit waveguide properties.  相似文献
