小蠹虫与长喙壳类真菌(Ophiostomatoid fungi)在自然界中形成稳定的伴生关系,是森林生态系统内一种普遍的生态学现象。已有研究表明欧亚大陆的齿小蠹属(Ips)昆虫与多种长喙壳类真菌形成广泛的伴生关系,其中部分真菌是重要的针叶树病原菌。随着借助于DNA信息特征的系统发育分析,揭示出形态特征和亲缘关系十分接近的3种齿小蠹属昆虫,云杉八齿小蠹(I.typographus),欧洲落叶松八齿小蠹(I.cembrae)和亚洲落叶松八齿小蠹(I.subelongatus)确定为不同种之后,相应地与之稳定伴生的长喙壳类真菌Ceratocystis polonica也由过去一个种揭示为3个种的复合体,各自与3种小蠹虫稳定伴生,形成密切的种特异性伴生关系。小蠹虫与真菌的种特异性伴生被认为是处于同一森林生态系统内的生物协同进化的结果。通过对我国东北地区落叶松八齿小蠹虫体、坑道标本上伴生真菌菌株的采集、分离和生理学、形态学特征观察,以及基于ITS、β-tubulin、MAT-2 HMG box多位点DNA序列的系统发育分析,首次确定了长喙壳真菌Ceratocystis fujiensis在我国东北地区异域分布的3种落叶松林内普遍存在,与落叶松八齿小蠹形成稳定的伴生关系。作为亚洲落叶松八齿小蠹伴生的主要真菌,也是伴生菌区系中的先锋种和致病力最强的病原菌,C.fujiensis在我国落叶松人工林的广泛分布值得高度重视,将为制定防治病虫复合危害的有效策略和措施提供科学基础。研究结果进一步支持了齿小蠹属昆虫与长喙壳真菌间的种特异性伴生假说。同时,多基因序列特征表明落叶松八齿小蠹与C.fujiensis在亚洲范围内的不同地理种群存在着显著的遗传多样性,预示特异性伴生在不同种群间发生的可能,可以为种特异性伴生假说和小蠹虫-真菌间共生关系的研究提供良好的模式材料。  相似文献

The establishment of an endosymbiotic relationship typically seems to be driven through complementation of the host''s limited metabolic capabilities by the biochemical versatility of the endosymbiont. The most significant examples of endosymbiosis are represented by the endosymbiotic acquisition of plastids and mitochondria, introducing photosynthesis and respiration to eukaryotes. However, there are numerous other endosymbioses that evolved more recently and repeatedly across the tree of life. Recent advances in genome sequencing technology have led to a better understanding of the physiological basis of many endosymbiotic associations. This review focuses on endosymbionts in protists (unicellular eukaryotes). Selected examples illustrate the incorporation of various new biochemical functions, such as photosynthesis, nitrogen fixation and recycling, and methanogenesis, into protist hosts by prokaryotic endosymbionts. Furthermore, photosynthetic eukaryotic endosymbionts display a great diversity of modes of integration into different protist hosts.In conclusion, endosymbiosis seems to represent a general evolutionary strategy of protists to acquire novel biochemical functions and is thus an important source of genetic innovation.  相似文献

The present study examines those features which promote bat feeding in agricultural riparian areas and the riparian habitat associations of individual species. Activity of Nathusius’ pipistrelle (Pipistrellus nathusii), common pipistrelle (Pipistrellus pipistrellus), soprano pipistrelle (Pipistrellus pygmaeus), Leisler’s bat (Nyctalus leisleri), and Myotis species (Myotis sp.) were recorded, and their habitat associations both “between” and “within” riparian areas were analyzed. General feeding activity was associated with reduced agricultural intensity, riparian hedgerow provision, and habitat diversity. Significant habitat associations for P. pipistrellus were observed only within riparian areas. Myotis species and P. pygmaeus were significantly related to indices of landscape structure and riparian hedgerow across spatial scales. Myotis species were also related to lower levels of riffle flow at both scales of analysis. The importance of these variables changed significantly, however, between analysis scales. The multi-scale investigation of species–habitat associations demonstrated the necessity to consider habitat and landscape characteristics across spatial scales to derive appropriate conservation plans.  相似文献

Many invasive plants have enhanced mutualistic arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungal associations, however, mechanisms underlying differences in AM fungal associations between introduced and native populations of invasive plants have not been explored. Here we test the hypothesis that variation in root exudate chemicals in invasive populations affects AM fungal colonization and then impacts plant performance. We examined flavonoids (quercetin and quercitrin) in root exudates of native and introduced populations of the invasive plant Triadica sebifera and tested their effects on AM fungi and plant performance. We found that plants from introduced populations had higher concentrations of quercetin in root exudates, greater AM fungal colonization and higher biomass. Applying root exudates more strongly increased AM fungal colonization of target plants and AM fungal spore germination when exudate donors were from introduced populations. The role of root exudate chemicals was further confirmed by decreased AM fungal colonization when activated charcoal was added into soil. Moreover, addition of quercetin into soil increased AM fungal colonization, indicating quercetin might be a key chemical signal stimulating AM fungal associations. Together these results suggest genetic differences in root exudate flavonoids play an important role in enhancing AM fungal associations and invasive plants’ performance, thus considering root exudate chemicals is critical to unveiling mechanisms governing shifting plant-soil microbe interactions during plant invasions.Subject terms: Population dynamics, Community ecology, Plant ecology  相似文献

The association between two or more lineages over evolutionary time is a recurrent theme spanning several different fields within biology, from molecular evolution to coevolution and biogeography. In each `historical association', one lineage is associated with another, and can be thought of as tracking the other over evolutionary time with a greater or lesser degree of fidelity. Examples include genes tracking organisms, parasites tracking hosts and organisms tracking geological and geographical changes. Parallels among these problems raise the tantalizing prospect that each is a special case of a more general problem, and that a single analytical tool can be applied to all three kinds of association.  相似文献

Different rates of wood decay and ligninolytic activity were found in wood decayed by various white-rot fungi. Chemical and ultrastructural analyses showed wood decayed by Coriolus versicolor consisted of a nonselective attack on all cell wall components. Lignin degradation was restricted to the cell wall adjacent to hyphae or around the circumference of cell lumina. Decay by Phellinus pini, Phlebia tremellosus, Poria medullapanis and Scytinostroma galactinum was selective for lignin degradation. Secondary walls were void of lignin and middle lamellae were extensively degraded. A diffuse attack on lignin occurred throughout all cell wall layers. Variation in ligninolytic activity was found among strains of Phanerochaete chrysosporium. Differences in weight loss as well as lignin and polysaccharide degradation were also found when wood of different coniferous and deciduous tree species was decayed by various white-rot fungi.  相似文献

Summary A procedure is described for selection and screening of VA mycorrhizal fungi in pot and field trials. The VA mycorrhizal fungi from 20 farm paddocks with unexpectedly high pasture production were compared withGlomus fasciculatus for ability to stimulate plant growth. The fungi from three soils (F4, F11, and F20) which were 84–142% more effective thanG. fasciculatus at stimulating growth in sterilised soils were then tested for ability to stimulate clover growth in unsterilised soils in pots, and in the field. F4, F11 and F20 were more efficient thanG. fasciculatus and the indigenous mycorrhizal fungi in all except one field soil.  相似文献

A survey of gastropod species associations was undertaken in one locus, i.e. Malham Tarn, Yorkshire. This ranged through both the major weed beds and the rocky shores. A semiquantitative analysis, in terms of both presence-absence and relative abundance indices, suggested a clear distinction between the snail fauna present in the weed beds and that on the rocky shores, and also indicated a separation of faunas within these two major habitat types. The latter was closely correlated with degree of exposure. From this, and other evidence, it was suggested that wind, via wave action, may be a critical determinant of both the qualitative and quantitative aspects of biocoenotic structure in large bodies of fresh water.  相似文献

Mycoheterotrophic plants (MHPs) are leafless, achlorophyllous, and completely dependent on mycorrhizal fungi for their carbon supply. Mycorrhizal symbiosis is a mutualistic association with fungi that is undertaken by the majority of land plants, but mycoheterotrophy represents a breakdown of this mutualism in that plants parasitize fungi. Most MHPs are associated with fungi that are mycorrhizal with autotrophic plants, such as arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) or ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungi. Although these MHPs gain carbon via the common mycorrhizal network that links the surrounding autotrophic plants, some mycoheterotrophic lineages are associated with saprotrophic (SAP) fungi, which are free-living and decompose leaf litter and wood materials. Such MHPs are dependent on the forest carbon cycle, which involves the decomposition of wood debris and leaf litter, and have a unique biology and evolutionary history. MHPs associated with SAP fungi (SAP-MHPs) have to date been found only in the Orchidaceae and likely evolved independently at least nine times within that family. Phylogenetically divergent SAP Basidiomycota, mostly Agaricales but also Hymenochaetales, Polyporales, and others, are involved in mycoheterotrophy. The fungal specificity of SAP-MHPs varies from a highly specific association with a single fungal species to a broad range of interactions with multiple fungal orders. Establishment of symbiotic culture systems is indispensable for understanding the mechanisms underlying plant–fungus interactions and the conservation of MHPs. Symbiotic culture systems have been established for many SAP-MHP species as a pure culture of free-living SAP fungi is easier than that of biotrophic AM or ECM fungi. Culturable SAP-MHPs are useful research materials and will contribute to the advancement of plant science.

In the present study, we investigated the nature of any cross-modal associations between colors and odors. In Experiment 1, we show that participants consistently match certain odors to specific colors when asked to explicitly select from among different colors the one that best matched a given odor. In Experiment 2, we investigated the robustness of these cross-modal associations using a cross-modal variant of the implicit association test (IAT). Participants made speeded discrimination responses to a random sequence of odors (strawberry vs. spearmint) and color patches (pink vs. turquoise). On the basis of the results of Experiment 1, the assignment of these targets onto the two response keys was manipulated in order to generate compatible (e.g., responding to the pink color and to the strawberry odor with the same response key) and incompatible (e.g., responding to the pink color and to the spearmint odor with the same response key) blocks of trials. The results showed that participants responded more rapidly and accurately to odor-color pairings having a stronger association than to those having a weaker (or no) association. These results suggest that odor-color associations can be both systematic and robust. The paradigm developed here provides a novel cross-modal extension of the IAT to probe the nature of color-odor associations.  相似文献

The assembly of bacterial communities in the rhizosphere is well-documented and plays a crucial role in supporting plant performance. However, we have limited knowledge of how plant rhizosphere determines the assembly of protistan predators and whether the potential associations between protistan predators and bacterial communities shift due to rhizosphere selection. To address this, we examined bacterial and protistan taxa from 443 agricultural soil samples including bulk and rhizosphere soils. Our results presented distinct patterns of bacteria and protistan predators in rhizosphere microbiome assembly. Community assembly of protistan predators was determined by a stochastic process in the rhizosphere and the diversity of protistan predators was reduced in the rhizosphere compared to bulk soils, these may be attributed to the indirect impacts from the altered bacterial communities that showed deterministic process assembly in the rhizosphere. Interestingly, we observed that the plant rhizosphere facilitates more close interrelationships between protistan predators and bacterial communities, which might promote a healthy rhizosphere microbial community for plant growth. Overall, our findings indicate that the potential predator–prey relationships within the microbiome, mediated by plant rhizosphere, might contribute to plant performance in agricultural ecosystems.  相似文献

The possibility of feeding on green and newly fallen leaves of the small-leaved lime Tilia cordata was studied for the collembolans Protaphorura armata and Vertagopus pseudocinereus. Young leaves grown under sterile conditions and almost free of yeast fungi were found to be toxic to the collembolan V. pseudocinereus: feeding on them led to the death of the animals. Leaves grown under natural conditions were nontoxic: when used by the collembolans as feed, they provided for collembolan growth and fecundity. Feeding preferences of the collembolans in relation to the yeasts attributed to different ecomorphs—epiphytes, litter saprophytes, pedobionts, and saccharobionts—were studied. Of the 24 yeast strains isolated from plant green parts, litter, and soil and assigned to eight species, no strain was revealed that was not used by the collembolans. However, certain yeast strains were preferable for the collembolans. The population of the V. pseudocinereus collembolans feeding on the yeast Rhodotorula glutinis (nss 31–4) exceeded that grown on Cryptococcus terricola (2044) 1.5-fold. Thus, the collembolans have feeding preferences in relation to yeast fungi, as was shown earlier with mycelial micromycetes. The possible mechanisms of the feeding preferences of the collembolans in relation to yeasts are discussed.  相似文献

Fifty rhizobial isolates of Lathyrus and Oxytropis collected from northern regions of China were studied in their genotypic characterization based upon analyses of ARDRA, 16S-23S IGS PCR-RFLP, TP-RAPD, MLEE, sequences of 16S rDNA gene and housekeeping genes of atpD, recA and glnII. The results demonstrated that most of the Lathyrus rhizobia belonged to Rhizobium and most of the Oxytropis rhizobia belonged to Sinorhizobium. A novel group of Rhizobium sp. I and S. meliloti were identified as the main microsymbionts respectively associated with Lathyrus and Oxytropis species in the collection area, which were new associations between rhizobia and the mentioned hosts. This study also provides new evidence for biogeography of rhizobia.
