To determine the larval diapause and the effect of photoperiod on development in Monochamus urussovi (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), larvae were reared on Abies sachalinensis and Picea jezoensis logs and bolts. Larvae stopped developing in the final instar at 25°C and 16L : 8D (16 h light and 8 h dark) whereas an exposure to 5°C in the dark (134 days) following acclimation at 12°C under natural daylength led to adult emergence. When larvae were reared under 8L : 16D or 16L : 8D at 25°C with an intervening period of chilling at 5°C in the dark (112 days), a photoperiod of 8L : 16D induced a shorter time required for adult emergence after being returned to 25°C, and smaller adult body size than 16L : 8D.  相似文献

The pine caterpillar, Dendrolimus punctatus (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Lasiocampidae), is a multivoltine pest of pine trees in China, overwintering as larvae. Winter diapause was induced by short day length. The critical night length was about 10 h 40 min at 25, 28, and 31 °C in the field, showing a temperature‐compensated diapause induction. Transfer experiments from a short night (L16:D8) to a long night (L12:D12) or vice versa at different times after hatching showed that sensitivity to day length was restricted to the first 14 days; the required day number for a 50% response at 25 °C was about 3.5 days for short nights but 7.5 days for long nights, indicating that short nights are photoperiodically more effective. When four successive short nights (L16:D8) were used to interrupt the long‐night regime (L12:D12) at different development stages and vice versa, the results showed that the highest sensitivity to photoperiod occurred on the 4th?8th day, corresponding to the second larval instar. Experiments of alternating short‐night (L16:D8) and long‐night (L12:D12) cycles during the larval period showed that the information of short nights as well as long nights could be accumulated. By rearing the larvae under conditions other than 24‐h light–dark cycles, we clearly showed that the dark period (scotophase) played a major role in the determination of diapause. The Nanda‐Hamner and Bünsow experiments failed to reveal rhythmic fluctuations with a period of about 24 h in the occurrence of diapause. Therefore, the photoperiodic clock in D. punctatus is an hourglass timer or a damped circadian oscillator.  相似文献

Mink are seasonal photosensitive breeders; testis activity is triggered when days have less than 10 h light. Increasing and decreasing plasma concentrations of prolactin induce the spring and autumn moults. In a 5 year experiment, males were maintained under short days (8 h light:16 h dark) at 13 degrees C or long days (16 h light:8 h dark) at 21 degrees C, winter and summer conditions, respectively. Under winter and summer conditions, circannual cycles of prolactin secretion and moulting were observed at intervals of about 11 months. Recurrence of testis cycles was not evident. In a second experiment, males were maintained under an 8 h light:16 h dark cycle from the winter solstice or under 10 h light:14 h dark, 12 h light:12 h dark or 14 h light:10 h dark cycles from 10 February. Under 8 h light:16 h dark cycle, testis regression was slightly later than under natural conditions, indicating photorefractoriness. However, mink remained sensitive to light: the longer the photoperiod, the faster the testis regression. In a third experiment, males were transferred under 8 h light:16 h dark or 16 h light:8 h dark from 15 May (group 1), 12 June (group 2) or 4 July (group 3); males submitted to long days received melatonin capsules on the day of transfer. Increasing concentrations of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) and testis volume were shown by half the males in group 2 and nearly all the males in group 3; the constant release of melatonin from implants was more efficient than short days; but in the three groups, prolactin concentrations decreased in the few days after short-day or melatonin treatment. Overall, the results demonstrate endogenous circannual rhythms of prolactin secretion, body weight and moulting. Although a refractory period to short days was observed, the annual cycle of testis activity totally relies on the annual changes in daylength.  相似文献

Summary N-acetyltransferase (NAT) activity in pineal glands exhibits a circadian rhythm with peak activity occurring in the dark-time. We previously showed that inGallus domesticus chicks pretreated with LD12:12, NAT activity was increased by dark exposure (peak dark sensitivity occurred during the expected dark-time) or decreased by light at night (peak light sensitivity occurred early in the night during the time of dark sensitivity). In this study we mapped dark sensitivity vs time (for NAT activity increase in response to 2 h dark pulses), and light sensitivity vs time (for NAT activity decrease in response to 10 min or 30 min light pulses) over a cycle for 3-week old chicks,Gallus domesticus, pretreated with long (LD16:8) or short photoperiod (LD8:16). Sensitivity to light was increased in the second 8 h after L/D by LD8:16. The locomotory activity rhythms of Asian garden dormice, Eliomys melanurus from Saudi Arabia were investigated under controlled laboratory conditions. Animals were maintained under different lighting conditions for a period of two weeks each. Dormice exhibited predominantly nocturnal activity during the light/dark (LD) (mean % nocturnal activity: 95.5 ± 0.9%) and dark/light (DL) (mean % nocturnal activity: 96.8 ± 0.7%) light cycles. All animals expressed free-running rhythms of locomotor activity when subjected to constant darkness (mean τ: 24h06 ± 0h09). Upon inversion of the LD cycle to DL, activity re-entrained to the new light cycle within 3 days. When the dark component of the day was lengthened to 8L:16D the active time increased significantly from 11h43 ± 0h05 to 13h43 ± 0h22. In contrast, when the dark component was shortened from 12L:12D to16L: 8D, the active time decreased significantly to 7h58 ± 0h04. No difference was apparent in the locomotor activity at 20 and 30 °C however, dormice became very inactive at 10 °C.Overall, locomotor activity patterns of the Asian garden dormouse largely resemble those of other species of dormice. However, Asian garden dormice spent long periods of time inactive both during light and darkness, when exposed to an ambient temperature of 10 °C, which may be related to the dramatic and sudden change in temperature. This period of inactivity may reflect a bout of torpor or the entering into a state of hibernation.  相似文献

This study investigated whether changes in illumination modify perception of day and night conditions in a diurnal species, the Indian weaver bird. Birds were initially subjected to a 12-h light:12-h dark regime (12L:12D; L?=?20 lux, D =?0.5 lux). After every 2 wks, the combinations of light illumination in L and D phases were changed as follows: 20:2 lux, 20:5 lux, 20:10 lux, 20:20 lux, 20:100 lux, and 20:200 lux. Finally, birds were released into dim constant light (0.5 lux) for 2 wks to determine the phase and period of the circadian activity rhythm. They were also laparotomized at periodic intervals to examine the effects of the light regimes on the seasonal testicular cycle. All individuals showed a consistently similar response. As evident by the activity pattern under these light regimes, both in total activity during contrasting light phases and during the 2?h in the beginning and end of first light phase, birds interpreted the period of higher light intensity as day, and the period of lower intensity as the night. During the period of similar light intensity, i.e., under LL, birds free-ran with a circadian period (~24?h). In bright LL (20 lux), the activity rhythm was less distinct, but periodogram analysis revealed the circadian period for the group as 24.46?±?0.41?h (mean?±?SE). However, in dim LL at the end of the experiment, all birds exhibited a circadian pattern with average period of 25.52?±?0.70?h. All birds also showed testicular growth and regression during the 16-wks study. Photoperiod (=day length) is the vital factor for the regulation of behavioral and physiological activities in many avian species. This study investigated the seasonal cycles of testicular growth and secondary sexual characteristics of Indian weaver bird under natural day length (NDL) and the effects of duration and intensity of light on photoperiodic induction. In the first experiment, groups of birds (n = 7 each) were exposed to under NDL in April 2008 and May 2009 for 8 and 12 months, respectively. In second and third experiment, birds (n = 6 each group) were exposed to different photoperiods (11.5L:12.5D, 12L:12D, 13L:11D, and 15L:9D) at the same (500 lux) light intensity, and to 13L:11D at different light intensities (10-, 50-, 500-, and 800-lux). Observations on testis size, molt, and plumage score were recorded 2-week (molt and plumage) or at 4-week intervals (testes). Both the NDL groups showed similar seasonal cycles of testicular growth-regression and secondary sexual characteristics. Second and third experiments suggest that the photoperiodic induction was depending upon duration and intensity of the light. Birds showed testicular growth-regression cycle followed by molt and plumage color change only under 13L:11D and 15L:9D and only 500- and 800-lux under 13L:11D photoperiod but not under 11.5L:12.5D and 12L:12D and 10- and 50-lux light intensities. Pre- and post-nuptial molting on body feathers were progressed with gonadal stimulation–maturation and regression cycle under 13L:11D and 15L:9D. Results under different light–dark cycles suggest that day length of about 12 h or more and above the threshold level of light intensity are essential for the induction of photoperiodic responses.  相似文献

对离乳雄性叙利亚地鼠(Mesocricetusauratus)和雌性叙利亚地鼠各30只分别给以长光照(16L:8D)、中光照(12L:12D)和短光照(8L:16D)三种光周期处理,研究光周期对叙利亚地鼠生长发育和繁殖的影响。13周龄时,短光照处理组雄性地鼠的体重显著(P<0.05)高于长光照和中光照组的体重;雌性地鼠9周龄时长光照组的体重显著(P<0.01)高于另外两个处理组的体重,较高的日食量可能是长光照组具有较大体重的原因之一,雄性地鼠的睾丸、副睾和肾上腺重量及雌性地鼠的卵巢、子宫和肾上腺重量表现了随着光照时间的延长而递增的趋势。长光照条件有利于雌性地鼠的正常发情和繁殖。每天16h的光照对繁殖地鼠是比较适宜的。  相似文献

The marine diatom Thalassiosira pseudonana (Hustedt, clone 3H) Hasle and Heimdal was cultured under three different light regimes: 100 μmol photon · m?2· s?1 on 12:12 h light : dark (L:D) cycles; 50 μmol photon · m?2· s?2 on 24:0 h L:D; and 100 μmol photon · m?2· s?1 on 24:0 h L:D. It was harvested during logarithmic and stationary phases for analysis of biochemical composition. Across the different light regimes, protein (as % of organic weight) was highest in cells during logarithmic phase, whereas carbohydrate and lipid were highest during stationary phase. Carbohydrate concentrations were most affected by the different light regimes; cells grown under 12:12 h L:D contained 37–44% of the carbohydrate of cells grown under 24:0 h L:D. Cells in logarithmic phase had high proportions of polar lipids (79 to 89% of total lipid) and low triacylglycerol (≤10% of total lipid). Cells in stationary phase contained less polar lipid (48 to 57% of total lipid) and more triacylglycerol (22 to 45% of total lipid). The fatty acid composition of logarithmic phase cells grown under 24:0 h L:D were similar, but the 100 μmol photon · m?2· s?1 (12:12 h L:D) cells at the same stage contained a higher proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and a lower proportion of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids due to different levels of 16:0, 16:1(n-7), 16:4(n-1), 18:4(n-3), and 20:5(n-3). With the onset of stationary phase, cells grown at 100 μmol photon · m?2· s?1 (both 12:12 and 24:0 h L:D) increased in proportions of saturated and monounsaturated fatty adds and decreased in PUFAs. Concentrations (% organic or dry weight) of 14:0, 16:0, 16:1(n-7), 20:5(n-3), and 22:6(n-3) increased in cells of all cultures during stationary phase. The amino acid compositions of cells were similar irrespective of harvest stage and light regime. For mariculture, the recommended light regime for culturing T. pseudonana will depend on the nutritional requirements of the animal to which the alga is fed. For rapidly growing bivalve mollusc larvae, stationary-phase cultures grown under a 24:0 h L:D regime may provide more energy by virtue of their higher percentage of carbohydrate and high proportions and concentrations of energy-rich saturated fatty acids.  相似文献

Plasma melatonin concentrations were measured every 1-2 h over 24 h and plasma luteinizing hormone (LH) concentrations every 15 min over 12 h in domestic gilts reared under artificial light regimens that had previously been used to demonstrate photoperiodic effects on puberty. In Expt 1, the light regimens both commenced at 12 h light: 12 h dark (12L:12D) and either increased (long-day) or decreased (short-day) by 15 min/week until the long-day gilts were receiving 16L:8D and the short-day gilts 8L:16D at sampling. In Expt 2, both light regimens commenced at 12L:12D and either increased (long-day) or decreased (short-day) by 10 or 15 min/week to a maximum of 14.5L:9.5D or a minimum of 9.5L:14.5D before being reversed. Sampling took place when daylength had returned to 14L:10D (long-day) or 10L:14D (short-day). In immature gilts housed at 12L:12D (Expt 1) and in postpubertal (Expt 1) and prepubertal (Expt 2) gilts reared under long-day or short-day light regimens, mean plasma melatonin concentrations were basal (3.6 pg/ml) when the lights were on and increased to peak concentrations greater than 15 pg/ml within 1-2 h after dark, before declining gradually to basal concentrations at or near the end of the dark phase. In prepubertal gilts bearing subcutaneous melatonin implants and reared under long-days (Expt 2), mean plasma melatonin concentration in the 6 h before dark was 91.9 +/- 5.26 pg/ml and 125.0 +/- 6.66 pg/ml 1 h after dark, but this increase was not statistically significant. In Expt 2, the short-day gilts had fewer LH pulses (2.6 +/- 0.25 vs. 4.6 +/- 0.24; P less than 0.01) in the 12-h sampling period than the long-day gilts, but the amplitude of the pulses (2.28 +/- 0.23 vs. 1.26 +/- 0.16 ng/ml; P less than 0.01) and the area under the LH curve (78.8 +/- 5.60 vs. 47.3 +/- 6.16; P less than 0.01) was greater in the short-day gilts. Recently, we reported the possibility of successfully inducing captive maturation and spawning in golden mahseer through photothermal manipulation. Subsequently, we felt that it was imperative to understand the impact of these environmental manipulations on immunity, stress response, antioxidant potential, and general well-being of adult mahseer to develop a healthy broodstock. For this purpose, two experiments were carried out with changes in photoperiod (experiment I) and temperature (experiment II). In experiment I, random groups of adult female and male Tor putitora were subjected to three photoperiods (8L:16D, 12L:12D and 16L:8D) for 100 days. Decreasing levels of plasma melatonin with increasing photoperiod confirmed the physiological significance of different light-dark conditions in mahseer brooders. In terms of stress, plasma cortisol levels showed a linear increase with decreasing light duration in both males and females. Similarly, the level of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances was also significantly higher in males kept at 8L:16D. Plasma concentration of total immunoglobulins was found reduced in female brooders at 8L:16D, but this was not evident in males. In females, total antioxidants were found significantly elevated at 12L:12D. On the contrary, superoxide dismutase activity was lower at 12L:12D in females. The photoperiod has substantially influenced the plasma total protein and albumin levels in males. In experiment II, random groups of adult T. putitora were reared at ambient (21.2 ± 1.4 °C) or elevated temperature (23.7 ± 1.3 °C) groups for 121 days. The higher temperature was found to significantly decrease lysozyme, myeloperoxidase, and anti-protease activities in female mahseer brooders. However, total immunoglobulin levels were reduced significantly at elevated temperature both in males and females. No other temperature-related significant changes were observed in antioxidant potential, anti-oxidative enzymes or well-being related indices.  相似文献

Between June 1 and August 24 of two successive summers, Targhee ewes (n = 64) and Finn x Targhee ewes (n = 44) were subjected to different photoperiods. Treatments were natural day length (ND), eight hours light: 16 hours of dark (8L:16D), 16L:8D shifted to 8L:16D (16L:8D-8L:16D) and seven hours of light:nine hours of dark:one hour of light:seven hours dark (7L:9D:1L:7D). Days to the mean first breeding mark were shortest (P<0.05) for the 16L:8D-8L:16D group (32 days) followed by the 7L:9D:1L:7D group (39 days). The longest mean intervals to marking were 52 (ND) and 47 days (8L:16D). Time to mean first breeding mark was 18 days shorter (P<0.05) in 1981 than in 1982. Mean serum progesterone values were 0.05) among treatments through week 6. The 8L:16D group had the most rapid rise and the highest terminal progesterone value, while the ND group had the slowest rise and lowest terminal value. Mean serum prolactin values in general started high and decreased over time. This decrease in all treatments preceded the rapid rise in progesterone. The most rapid prolactin decline was for the 8L:16D group. The percentage of exposed ewes lambing was lowest (P<0.05) for ND ewes (37%) and highest for 8L:16D ewes (81%). The shortest mean interval from the start of treatment to lambing was 210 days (7L:9D:1L:7D) followed by 214 days (8L:16D), 217 days (ND) and 218 days (16L:8D-8L:16D). Considering percentage lambing in combination with interval to lambing, the 8L:16D treatment was the most effective treatment.  相似文献

In this study, we investigated the effect of photoperiod on growth and gonadal development of juvenile topmouth gudgeon, Pseudorasbora parva. Seven different photoperiods (light:dark, L:D) were tested: 0L:24D, 4L:20D, 8L:16D, 12L:12D, 16L:8D, 20L:4D and 24L:0D, from November to January. Throughout the study, light intensity was kept at 400 lx on the water surface, and the fish were fed a commercial diet twice a day. Weight gain, feed intake, specific growth rate, and feed conversion efficiency were significantly higher under the constant–long day photoperiods (24L:0D, 20L:4D and 16L:8D) than those under the short–no day photoperiods (12L:12D, 8L:16D, 4L:20D, 0L:24D) (p?<?0.05). The highest mean female gonadosomatic index (GSI) and mean oocyte size were observed under 24L:0D followed by 20L:4D and 16L:8D photoperiods, and these parameters were significantly higher than those of fish cultured under the short–no day photoperiod regimes (p?<?0.05). Proportion of females with GSI?>?9 % were 50.00 %, 46.67 %, 48.48 %, in 24L:0D, 20L:4D and 16L:8D, respectively. These results demonstrate that the growth of juvenile P. parva can be stimulated significantly by constant–long photoperiods and that these photoperiods can advance sexual maturity of females by approximately 2 months.  相似文献

We determined the effect of food restriction on locomotor activity pattern and gonadal growth on black-headed munia (Lonchura malacca malacca) exposed to12L:12D light–dark cycle. Two groups of male and female munia (n = 5 pairs each) were exposed to 12L:12D (L = 265 lux; D = 0.3 lux) for day 1–7. On day 8, group one received 4 h food (ZT 0–4; ZT 0 = Zeitgeber time, light onset) and group two received food ad libitum (ZT 0–24 h). Locomotor activity pattern and gonadal growth were recorded over the experiment period of one year. Birds were highly active in group one, with a high daily and total activity. However, activity behavior was fully synchronized with light onset in the group two, when food was available ad libitum. Gonadal maturation was initiated in both the groups but the maturation of testis and ovarian follicle was noticed only in group two (food ad libitum). It appears that food restriction affects the locomotor activity and gonadal growth in black-headed munia.  相似文献

Effects of 16 (16 light:8 dark) and 8 (8L:16D) h of daily light were compared with continuous light (24L:0D) exposure on prolactin (PRL) concentrations in serum of prepubertal bulls. Concentrations of PRL in serum were 2 to 3 fold greater in bulls exposed to 24L:0D or 16L:8D as compared with 8L:16D. However, PRL concentrations attained a maximum approximately 3 weeks later in calves exposed to 24L:0D than in calves given 16L:8D. Continuous low intensity (11 to 16 lux) lighting supplemented with 16 or 8 h of high intensity (449 to 618 lux) light per day increased PRL concentrations in serum of prepubertal bulls 1.5 to 2.5 fold relative to 8L:16D (470 lux). We found that relative to 8L:16D, 1) photoperiods of 16 or 24 h of light per day increased serum concentrations of PRL in prepubertal bulls; however, the time required to achieve maximum PRL concentrations was longer in animals exposed to 24L:0D, 2) continuous low intensity lighting supplemented with 16 or 8 h of high intensity daily light also increased concentrations of PRL in serum.  相似文献

-The effect of photoperiod on growth of juvenile giant freshwater prawns, Macrobrachium rosenbergii de Man, was tested. The prawns were divided into four groups and each group was reared under one of the following light-dark conditions: continuous darkness (L0:D24), 12 hr light: 12 hr dark (L12:D12), 16 hr light: 8 hr dark (L16:D8), and 20 hr light: 4 hr dark (L20:D4). Body size was determined at the age of 45, 75, and 110 days by measuring total length, orbital length, and carapace length; body weight was determined at the age of 110 days. At 110 days of age, the prawns reared under L0:D24 photoperiod were significantly longer and heavier than those reared under other light-dark conditions. The survival rate of the prawns reared under L0:D24 photoperiod was also higher than that of other groups. This study indicates a positive effect of continuous darkness on growth and survival rate of juvenile giant freshwater prawns, M. rosenbergii.  相似文献

Because of the effect of photoperiod on physiological and biochemical processes in fish, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of manipulated photoperiod on growth, feed conversion and survival of wild carp, Cyprinus carpio. Fish received six photoperiod regimes (light:dark cycle) including: natural photoperiod (control), 24L:0D, 16L:8D, 12L:12D, 8L:16D and 0L:24D by the three replications. 光质和光周期可以调节植物生长过程中肉质根等地下贮藏器官的形成。该试验以‘昆优2号’樱桃萝卜为试验材料,以白光(W)为对照,研究8R2B、5R5B、2R8B红蓝光配比光质(红蓝光比例分别为8∶2、5∶5、2∶8)与8L/16D、12L/12D、16L/8D光周期(光照/黑暗分别为8 h/16 h、12 h/12 h、16 h/8 h)组合对樱桃萝卜生长发育和营养品质的影响,筛选适合樱桃萝卜生长的光质光周期组合。结果表明:长光照(16L/8D)W、8R2B处理对樱桃萝卜叶片生长、肉质根大小、根冠比都有显著的促进作用,长光照W有利于樱桃萝卜更快形成膨大的肉质根;长光照W、8R2B处理下的樱桃萝卜肉质根多酚含量、抗氧化能力差异不大;长光照W利于樱桃萝卜肉质根可溶性糖、可溶性蛋白积累,长光照8R2B有利于肉质根可溶性蛋白积累。研究发现,适当的光质和光周期组合可显著促进樱桃萝卜叶片生长、肉质根膨大以及根中营养物质的积累,从而获得良好的长势和营养品质,并以长光照(16L/8D即光照/黑暗为16 h/8 h)白光组合最佳。  相似文献

在温度(25±1)℃,RH65%~75%条件下,对国槐尺蠖Semiothisa cinerearia Bremer et Grey各龄幼虫分别采用0:24、10:14、12:12、14:10、1:85种光周期处理。结果表明,以14:10处理的国槐尺蠖1~5龄幼虫历期最短;以16:8处理的幼虫发育历期最短,且随着光照时间的增加,幼虫发育历期逐渐缩短;不同光周期对于6~7龄幼虫存在显著的影响,但是对于1~5龄影响不大。成虫53%~56%在夜间羽化,越冬蛹在8~14h光照范围内,随光照长度增加发育历期延长,在14~16h光照范围内,历期随光照延长而缩短。以0:24处理的蛹羽化率最高,发育历期最短。  相似文献
