Resting metabolic rate in southern catfish of 2 and 5 day fasting groups were significantly higher than that of the 15 day fasting group ( P  < 0·05). After feeding, peak metabolic rate of specific dynamic action (SDA) of the 15 day fasting group was significantly lower than that of the 2 and 5 day fasting groups ( P  < 0·05). The duration of the SDA of the 15 day fasting group was significantly longer than that of the 2 day fasting group ( P  < 0·05) and the SDA coefficient of the 15 day fasting group was significantly lower than that of the 2 day fasting group ( P  < 0·05).  相似文献

Specific dynamic action (SDA), the energy expended on all physiological processes that is associated with meal digestion and assimilation, is strongly affected by temperature. We assessed the effects of temperature on the postprandial metabolic response and calculated SDA of the southern catfish, Silurus meridionalis. The fish was fed with experimental diets at a meal size of 4% body mass, and by using an 8-chamber, continuous-flow respirometer the oxygen consumption rate was determined at a 2 h interval until the postprandial oxygen consumption rate returning to the preprandial level, at four different temperatures. The energy expended on SDA (SDA(E)) were 2.71, 3.07, 3.16, and 3.62 kJ, the SDA(coefficients) (energy expended on SDA quantified as a percentage of the digestible energy content of the meal) were 7.70, 9.44, 10.36, and 11.12%, and the peak metabolic rates (R(peak)) of SDA were 3.48, 4.31, 5.96, and 7.30 mg O2 h(-1), at 17.5, 22.5, 27.5, and 32.5 degrees C respectively. The relationships between those parameters and temperature were: SDA(E)=1.74+0.0559T (n=26, r(2)=0.676), SDA(coefficient)=4.10+0.223T (n=26, r(2)=0.726), and R(peak)=-1.34+0.264T (n=26, r(2)=0.896). The SDA durations showed a slow-fast-slow tendency of decrease with increasing temperature, and were 88.00, 85.71, 67.71, and 66.50 h at 17.5, 22.5, 27.5 and 32.5 degrees C respectively. Two separate peaks appeared during the SDA response at 17.5 degrees C, and it might be due to a rapid startup of the mechanical process with a lag of the biochemical process, which suggested that the peaks of "mechanical component" and "biochemical component" of SDA might be separated when temperature was low enough.  相似文献

Southern catfish juvenile (37.6-65.9 g) were fasted for two weeks and fed with cutlets of freshly killed loach species at 2% body mass per meal twice daily (06:00 and 18:00) for four days at 27.5°C. Metabolic rates were measured during the fasting and feeding periods and all metabolic rates were adjusted to a standard body mass of 1 kg using an exponent of 0.75. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of fasting and repeat feeding on the resting metabolic rate and the feeding metabolic rate. The results demonstrated that the standardized value of the resting metabolic rate gradually decreased from 69.6 ± 2.7 (means ± S.E.) to 42.8 ± 2.3 mgO2 h-1 during the two weeks of fasting. The peak feeding metabolic rate and average metabolic rate of each feeding (12 h) gradually increased with repeat feeding before leveling off. The results of this study suggest that southern catfish can regulate digestive function and gradually alter the characteristics of metabolism according to the availability of a food resource.  相似文献

以大菱鲆幼鱼(7.56±0.03 g)为试验对象,在水温17~19℃下,设计了4个摄食水平梯度(1.0%、1.5%、2.0%和饱食)和3个投喂频率梯度(1、2和3次·d-1),探讨了不同摄食水平和投喂频率对其生长及生化成分的影响.结果表明:随着摄食水平的升高,大菱鲆幼鱼的终末体重、相对增重率和摄食率显著升高(P<0.05);特定生长率随摄食水平的增加呈线性升高;湿重、干重、蛋白质和能量转化效率出现先升高后降低的趋势;摄食水平对鱼体的体成分和组间表观消化率无显著影响(P>0.05);不同投喂频率下,终末体重、相对增重率、特定生长率及转化效率呈先升高再降低的趋势,在2次·d-1时取得最大值;投喂频率对鱼体的体成分和组间表观消化率无显著影响(P>O.05).  相似文献

Individual grass carp, Ctenopharyngodon idellu , were maintained in a respirometer for a month and fed pelleted diets containing various proportions of carbohydrate, fat and protein at different ration levels. Oxygen consumption was measured continuously, allowing the effects of consecutive daily feeding on respiration to be studied. The relationships established between daily food intake and oxygen consumption showed that, on average, 23.3% (high protein diet), 15.3% (high carbohydrate diet), 20.7% (high lipid diet) and 7.0% ( Lemnu diet ) of the absorbed energy was partitioned into specific dynamic action (SDA). (Here the term SDA is used to describe the oxygen consumption of a feeding fish in excess of the routine metabolic rate.) In terms of the overall energy budgets of growing fish, SDA represented between 12 and 58% of the total heat lost over the experimental period and was equivalent to between 14 and 33% of the consumed energy. Ration was positively correlated with heat loss due to total respiration ( r = 0.881) and with heat loss due to SDA ( r = 0.762). As ration increased, the size of SDA relative to total respiration increased. Significant positive correlations were found between oxygen consumption (total or due to SDA) and specific growth rate, and between oxygen consumption and the deposition of protein and energy. However, growth rate had a minimal influence on daily oxygen consumption when compared with food intake.  相似文献

在(22.0±0.5)℃条件下,将人工孵化的南方鲇仔鱼分别于出膜后4、5、6、7天进行首次投喂(其中4d的为对照组),首次投喂前(出膜后4d)取样测量体长、体重、身体含能量作为初始值,于出膜后7d(延迟投喂实验)和21d(继续喂养实验)分别测定体长、体重、身体所含能量和临界游泳速度。结果显示:延迟投喂实验结束时各处理组的体重、身体含能量和体长随首次投喂时间的延迟均呈下降趋势,相对临界游泳速度随首次投喂时间的延迟表现为先提高后降低的趋势,绝对临界游泳速度在延迟投喂2d以内无显著差异;继续喂养实验结束时处理组各指标逐渐接近对照组水平,两种临界游泳速度表现为同步变化趋势;另外,体长特定生长率相对百分比(SGRL%)的变化幅度小于身体含能量特定生长率相对百分比(SGRE%)的变化幅度,而绝对临界游泳速度相对百分比(Ucrit%)的变化又小于体长特定生长率相对百分比的变化。结果表明:早期食物资源的短缺会导致南方鲇仔鱼体重、身体含能量产生明显变化,体长生长速度的变化则相对较小,而短期饥饿不会显著降低南方鲇仔鱼的游泳能力。  相似文献

Effect of relative meal size (0.6-24%) on specific dynamic action (SDA) was assessed in southern catfish juveniles (48.2+/-3.2 g) at 27.5 degrees C. Cutlets of freshly killed loach species were used as test diet. Energy expended during SDA was linearly correlated with relative meal size (r=0.949, p<0.001, N=47). There was no significant difference in SDA coefficient (energy expended on SDA quantified as a percentage of the energy content of the meal) among different relative meal size groups. Factorial metabolic scope increased from 1.47 to 4.08 when the relative meal size increased from 0.6% to 24%. The peak V O2 increased with meal size, but levelled when relative meal size gradually increased to the maximum. SDA duration showed a S-type (slow-fast-slow) increase course with increased meal size. The results of this study suggest that the high postprandial factorial metabolic scope and a trapezoid SDA curve might be the adaptation strategy of warm water sit-and-wait fish under the natural selection of evolution related to long-term food resources.  相似文献

Improving the feed conversion ratio (FCR; the amount of feed consumed relative to the amount of weight gain) can reduce both production costs and environmental impacts of farmed fish. The aim of this study was to investigate what drives FCR to understand how nutrients are retained, as well as the amount of oxygen consumed for digestion, absorption and assimilation (a metabolic process known as specific dynamic action, SDA). Feed-efficient and inefficient Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) in fresh water were identified using ballotini beads and X-radiography that tracked individual feed intake across three assessment periods under satiated feeding. This allowed a comparison of physiological traits and body composition between the two FCR phenotypes over two time points as Chinook salmon grew from 305 to 620 g. Fish with higher daily feed intake (DFI) had higher daily weight gain (DWG) as expected. Nonetheless, the relationship between FCR and DFI as well as FCR and DWG was variable between time points. FCR and DWG were not correlated at the first time point and were negatively correlated at the second time point. In contrast, FCR and DFI were positively correlated at the first time point but not the second. Despite this, efficient fish ate smaller meals and retained more protein, lipid and energy in their body tissues. There was no detectable difference in metabolism between the two FCR phenotypes with respect to minimal resting metabolic rate, maximum metabolic rate, aerobic scope, or SDA parameters. In conclusion, FCR is not consistently associated with growth and metabolic differences in freshwater Chinook salmon, but FCR-efficient fish retain more nutrients and consume smaller meals.  相似文献

为研究饲料碳水化合物水平对南方鲇免疫力的影响,配制含0%、15%和30%糊化玉米淀粉的等能饲料分别作为对照、中水平和高水平碳水化合物(CHO)饲料,以体重为20.7±0.5g的南方鲇幼鱼为实验对象,在水温27.5±0.2℃的条件下以对照饲料驯化15d后,测定以3种饲料投喂02、、48、、12和16周时南方鲇鱼体的血清溶菌酶活性、抗菌活性和血清总蛋白含量。结果发现,中水平CHO组血清溶菌酶活性在4周和12周时显著低于对照组(p〈0.05),其他各时间点均与对照组无显著差异;高CHO组在2—12周期间均显著低于对照组(p〈0.05),而在16周时与对照组之间差异不显著。从第4周到第16周,中、高CHO组血清抗菌活性均显著低于对照组(p〈0.05),而中、高CHO组之间在各时间点均无显著差异。在16周时,中CHO组和高CHO组血清总蛋白含量显著高于对照组(p〈0.05),在其余时间点三组间差异均不显著。以上结果表明:饲料中含15%的CHO对南方鲇生长无显著影响,但明显抑制了鱼体免疫力,且免疫抑制作用随碳水化合物水平的提高而加强。综合分析本研究的结果提出,饲料碳水化合物是抑制南方鲇免疫力的一个重要因子。提高溶菌酶类蛋白质的合成速率是该种鱼在长期饲料CHO营养胁迫下的适应机制之一,表观上反映为血清蛋白含量的升高。通过比较观察饲料CHO对南方鲇生长和免疫力的抑制作用,提出应当综合二者的观测结果来评价CHO饲料对鱼类的营养胁迫及适合状况。  相似文献

The effect of meal size on the specific dynamic action (SDA) of the juvenile snakehead (Channa argus) was assessed at 25 °C. The fish were fed with test diets at meal sizes of 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5% body mass and the postprandial oxygen consumption rate was determined at 1-h intervals until it returned to the pre-prandial level. The peak metabolic rate increased from 237.4 to 283.2 mg O2 kg− 1 h− 1 as the relative meal size increased from 0.5% to 3% and leveled off at 4% and 5%. Factorial metabolic scope increased from 1.53 to 1.99 and SDA duration increased from 11.7 to 32.3 h as the relative meal size increased from 0.5% to 5%. The relationship between SDA duration (D) and relative meal size (M) was described as: D = 4.28 M + 10.62 (r2 = 0.752, P < 0.05, n = 50). The energy expended on SDA increased while the SDA coefficient decreased with increasing meal size. The results of the present study suggest that the snakehead may adopt different feeding strategies when taking in different amounts of food.  相似文献

Specific dynamic action (SDA), the increase in metabolism stemming from meal digestion and assimilation, varies as a function of meal size, meal type, and body temperature. To test predictions of these three determinants of SDA, we quantified and compared the SDA responses of nine species of anurans, Bombina orientalis, Bufo cognatus, Ceratophrys ornata, Dyscophus antongilli, Hyla cinerea, Kassina maculata, Kassina senegalensis, Pyxicephalus adspersus, and Rana catesbeiana subjected to meal size, meal type, and body temperature treatments. Over a three to seven-fold increase in meal size, anurans experienced predicted increases in postprandial rates of oxygen consumption the duration of elevated and SDA. Meal type had a significant influence on the SDA response, as the digestion and assimilation of hard-bodied, chitinous crickets, mealworms, and superworms required 76% more energy than the digestion and assimilation of soft-bodied earthworms, waxworms, and neonate rodents. Body temperature largely effected the shape of the postprandial metabolic profile; peak increased and the duration of the response decreased with an increase in body temperature. Variation in body temperature did not significantly alter SDA for four species, whereas both H. cinerea and R. catesbeiana experienced significant increases in SDA with body temperature. For 13 or 15 species of anurans ranging in mass from 2.4 to 270 g, SMR, postprandial peak and SDA scaled with body mass (log–log) with mass exponents of 0.79, 0.93, and 1.05, respectively.  相似文献

The impact of feeding (fed to satiation, 13.85% body mass) on excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC, chasing for 2.5 min) was investigated in juvenile southern catfish (Silurus meridionalis Chen) (38.62-57.55 g) at 25. Cutlets of freshly killed loach species without viscera, head and tail were used as the test meal, and oxygen consumption (VO(2)) was adjusted to a standard body mass of 1 kg using a mass exponent of 0.75. Resting VO(2) increased significantly above fasting levels (49.89 versus 148.25 mg O(2) h(-)(1)) in 12 h postprandial catfish. VO(2) and ventilation frequency (V(f)) both increased immediately after exhaustive exercise and slowly returned to pre-exercise values in all experimental groups. The times taken for post-exercise VO(2) to return to the pre-exercise value were 20, 25 and 30 min in 12 h, 60 h and 120 h postprandial catfish, respectively. Peak VO(2) levels were 257.36+/-6.06, 219.32+/-6.32 and 200.91+/-5.50 mg O(2) h(-1) in 12 h, 60 h and 120 h postprandial catfish and EPOC values were 13.85+/-4.50, 27.24+/-3.15 and 41.91+/-3.02 mg O(2) in 12 h, 60 h and 120 h postprandial southern catfish, respectively. There were significant differences in both EPOC and peak VO(2) during the post-exercise recovery process among three experimental groups (p<0.05). These results showed that: (1) neither digestive nor exhaustive exercise could elicit maximal VO(2) in southern catfish, (2) both the digestive process and exercise (also the post-exercise recovery process) were curtailed under postprandial exercise, (3) the change of V(f) was smaller than that of VO(2) during the exhaustive exercise recovery process, (4) for a similar increment in VO(2), the change in V(f) was larger during the post-exercise process than during the digestive process.  相似文献

AIMS: To study the effect of the type of antibiotic used in medicated diets against pathogens and the feeding level on the microbial biodiversity in the rabbit caecum. METHODS AND RESULTS: Three groups of eight does were given a diet unsupplemented (NAB) or with 100 ppm of bacitracin (BAC) or tiamulin (TIA). Litter sizes of four does in each group were adjusted to five (LS5) or to nine (LS9), to manipulate their levels of feed intake. The feeding level strongly affected caecal microbiota in does fed on NAB and BAC diet, whereas the effect of the antibiotic was higher in TIA-supplemented animals, even prevailing over the effect of feeding level. Daily food intake and milk yield (P<0.05) and caecum weight (P<0.10) were higher in feeding of LS9 does. The total volatile fatty acid concentration was lower with BAC (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The feeding level strongly affects caecal biodiversity in lactating does. The extent of the antibiotic effect depends on its nature, being significant with TIA but not with BAC. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Changes in the feeding level promote different profiles of caecal microbiota. Therapeutic doses of TIA may affect caecal microbiota, whereas BAC would not reduce diversity.  相似文献

Groups of Arctic charr and rainbow trout were fed by using demand feeders and their individual trigger actuations registered with a PIT-tag (Passive Integrated Transponder) system. Food was supplied at two reward levels, low and high, to five replicate groups of each species for 21 to 27 days. The reward level was defined as the amount of food obtained in response to a single trigger actuation. The effects of reward level on individual demand feeding activity and growth rale were assessed.
As a result of high demand feeding activity, the daily food rations for trout were in excess of their needs at both reward levels. This can be ascribed to the fact that they compensated a low reward level by increasing their bite activity. In contrast, demand feeding activity in charr did not differ significantly between reward levels. Instead, resulting food rations were limiting and excessive, at low and high reward levels, respectively. The variation in bite activity between individuals (measured as their proportional contribution to the total number of trigger actuations within a group) for charr was significantly higher in the low-reward treatment than in the high-reward level. For trout, the variation in bite activity did not differ significantly between treatments. Differences in response to reward level are suggested to be due to the fact that the social hierarchy is weaker in trout than in charr; i.e. the differences in bite activity between dominant and non-dominant individuals are smaller in trout. At both reward levels, the benefit of being dominant, measured in terms of growth rate was significant for charr but non-significant for trout.  相似文献

The effects of temperature acclimation and acute temperature change were investigated in postprandial green shore crabs, Carcinus maenas. Oxygen uptake, gut contractions and transit rates and digestive efficiencies were measured for crabs acclimated to either 10 °C or 20 °C and subsequently exposed to treatment temperatures of 5, 15, or 25 °C. Temperature acclimation resulted in a partial metabolic compensation in unfed crabs, with higher oxygen uptake rates measured for the 10 °C acclimated group exposed to acute test temperatures. The Q10 values were higher than normal, probably because the acute temperature change prevented crabs from fully adjusting to the new temperature. Both the acclimation and treatment temperature altered the characteristics of the specific dynamic action (SDA). The duration of the response was longer for 20 °C acclimated crabs and was inversely related to the treatment temperature. The scope (peak oxygen consumption) was also higher for 20 °C acclimated crabs with a trend towards an inverse relationship with treatment temperature. Since the overall SDA (energy expenditure) is a function of both duration and scope, it was also higher for 20 °C acclimated crabs, with the highest value measured at the treatment temperature of 15 °C. The decline in total SDA after acute exposure to 5 and 25 °C suggests that both cold stress and limitations to oxygen supply at the temperature extremes could be affecting the SDA response. The contractions of the pyloric sac of the foregut region function to propel digesta through the gut, and contraction rates increased with increasing treatment temperature. This translated into faster transit rates with increasing treatment temperatures. Although pyloric sac contractions were higher for 20 °C acclimated crabs, temperature acclimation had no effect on transit rates. This suggests that a threshold level in pyloric sac contraction rates needs to be reached before it manifests itself on transit rates. Although there was a correlation between faster transit times and the shorter duration of the SDA response with increasing treatment temperature, transit rates do not make a good proxy for calculating the SDA characteristics. The digestive efficiency showed a trend towards a decreasing efficiency with increasing treatment temperature; the slower transit rates at the lower treatment temperatures allowing for more efficient nutrient absorption. Even though metabolic rates of 10 °C acclimated crabs were higher, there was no effect of acclimation temperature on digestive efficiency. This probably occurred because intracellular enzymes and digestive enzymes are modulated through different control pathways. These results give an insight into the metabolic and digestive physiology of Carcinus maenas as it makes feeding excursions between the subtidal and intertidal zones.  相似文献
