对起源于中国的葡萄属(Vitis L.)20个种或变种叶片气孔特性进行了观察研究。结果表明:气孔纵径对葡萄属种的分类有较大的价值;气孔比密度(叶片上所有气孔复合体面积与叶片面积之比)与叶片大小呈极显著正相关;气孔密度与气孔纵径呈极显著负相关;所有观察种类的叶片气孔类型均为不规则型。  相似文献

Leaf stomatal density is known to co-vary with leaf vein density. However, the functional underpinning of this relation, and how it scales to whole-plant water transport anatomy, is still unresolved. We hypothesized that the balance of water exchange between the vapour phase (in stomata) and liquid phase (in vessels) depends on the consistent scaling between the summed stomatal areas and xylem cross-sectional areas, both at the whole-plant and single-leaf level. This predicted size co-variation should be driven by the co-variation of numbers of stomata and terminal vessels. We examined the relationships of stomatal traits and xylem anatomical traits from the entire plant to individual leaves across seedlings of 53 European woody angiosperm species. There was strong and convergent scaling between total stomatal area and stem xylem area per plant and between leaf total stomatal area and midvein xylem area per leaf across all the species, irrespective of variation in leaf habit, growth-form or relative growth rate. Moreover, strong scaling was found between stomatal number and terminal vessel number, whereas not in their respective average areas. Our findings have broad implications for integrating xylem architecture and stomatal distribution and deepen our understanding of the design rules of plants' water transport network.  相似文献

We examined the genetic structure of natural populations of the European wood mouse Apodemus sylvaticus at the microgeographic (<3 km) and macrogeographic (>30 km) scales. Ecological and behavioural studies indicate that this species exhibits considerable dispersal relative to its home-range size. Thus, there is potential for high gene flow over larger geographic areas. As levels of population genetic structure are related to gene flow, we hypothesized that population genetic structuring at the microgeographic level should be negligible, increasing only with geographic distance. To test this, four sites were sampled within a microgeographic scale with two additional samples at the macrogeographic level. Individuals ( n =415) were screened and analysed for seven polymorphic microsatellite loci. Contrary to our hypothesis, significant levels of population structuring were detected at both scales. Comparing genetic differentiation with geographic distance suggests increasing genetic isolation with distance. However, this distance effect was non-significant being confounded by surprisingly high levels of differentiation among microgeographic samples. We attribute this pattern of genetic differentiation to the effect of habitat fragmentation, splitting large populations into components with small effective population sizes resulting in enhanced genetic drift. Our results indicate that it is incorrect to assume genetic homogeneity among populations even where there is no evidence of physical barriers and dispersal can occur freely. In the case of A. sylvaticus , it is not clear whether dispersal does not occur across habitat barriers or behavioural dispersal occurs without consequent gene flow.  相似文献

The aim of this research was to investigate the nature of heterogeneity in stomatal conductance and, in particular, to determine whether the characteristic 'patchy' pattern of water infiltration is reflected in measurements on individual stomata. Silicone rubber replicas were made of primary leaves of glasshouse-grown Phaseolus vulgaris L. plants, and the leaves were then infiltrated with water at controlled sub-atmospheric gas pressures according to their estimated or measured stomatal conductance. Seven leaves examined in detail all showed patchy infiltration, and the mean sire of infiltrated areas was negatively correlated with the prevailing stomatal conductance. In four of the leaves, a one millimetre wide transect across the leaf was selected for further detailed study. Measurements of mean peristomatal groove distance (PGD) and stomatal frequency were made along the transect and related to the state of infiltration. Analysis of variance indicated that, in all four cases, variation in PGD among patches was highly significant, but there was no significant difference between patches of different infiltration categories. Thus, local (patch-level) variation in stomatal aperture appeared to bear no relation to the infiltration status of the patches. The dominant source of stomatal variability was between individual pores in the same locality, which accounted for 82% or more of the total variability. Taking into account variation in stomatal frequency, correlations between predicted stomatal conductance and the extent of infiltration were significant in only one out of the seven leaves studied. Possible reasons for these results are discussed. It is suggested that the infiltration method misrepresents the underlying state of the stomata as being either open or closed, when there is little evidence for this from measurements of stomatal dimensions. For these unstressed plants under relatively stable conditions, it is concluded that the 'unit of variability' in stomatal heterogeneity may rest at the individual pore ('micro') scale, rather than at the areolar patch ('macro') scale, or above.  相似文献

Image analysis was used in studying stomatal morphology during acclimatization of tobacco plantlets to ex vitro conditions, 45 d after transfer leaf area was 15 times, and total number of stomata per leaf four times increased. During acclimatization stomatal density was decreased considerably on both leaf sides, and was compensated by an increase in stomatal sizes, e.g., in stomatal length and in stomatal area (both guard cells and pore). Elongation of stomata was increased indicating that the originally circular stomata of in vitro plantlets were changed into elliptical ones in ex vitro acclimatized plants. We examined how genotypic variation at the glycerate dehydrogenase (GLY) locus in pinyon pine might be affected by environmental stress and herbivory. We compared GLY allelic and genotypic frequencies among mature and juvenile trees growing in stressful cinder soil and adjacent sandy-loam soil. While no association was found with herbivory, three lines of evidence support the hypothesis that GLY slow homozygotes (SS) are selected for under conditions of environmental stress. 1) We found no differences at the GLY locus between juvenile and mature trees growing in sandy-loam soil. 2) However, in the stressful cinder soil we found a lower frequency of SS homozygotes in juvenile trees than in mature trees, suggesting that selection has occurred in one generation. 3) Using biomass as a measure of fitness, SS homozygotes were superior to other GLY genotypes in cinder soil. Two lines of evidence were inconsistent with the hypothesis of selection for SS homozygotes in stressful environments. 1) SS homozygote frequency between habitats was not significantly different, suggesting that too few generations have passed for differentiation to occur, and/or insufficient selection pressure. 2) The low frequency of SS homozygote juvenile trees growing in cinder soil suggests that counterbalancing selection may prevent SS homozygotes from increasing in the population.  相似文献

Samples of brown trout, Salmo trutia L., from 34 locations throughout the Lough Neagh system in north-east Ireland were electrophoretically examined for genetic variation at 28 enzyme loci. Patterns of allelic variation at 12 polymorphic loci indicated the existence of genetic differentiation within as well as among several river systems, suggesting the existence of multiple brown trout populations. Significant gene frequency differences were detected over distances as little as 3 km, demonstrating the propensity of this species for microgeographic genetic differentiation. This was confirmed by a hierarchical analysis of genetic variance, some 35% of among-sample variance being distributed within tributaries. Within Lough Neagh itself significant genetic differentiation was detected between two morphotypes (dollaghan and salmon-trout) and for one of these (dollaghan) among samples from different years and from different areas of the lough. This suggests the existence of genetically differentiated subpopulations of originating from separate river catchments.  相似文献

Paris quadrifolia (herb Paris) is a long-lived, clonal woodland herb that shows strong differences in local population size and shoot density along an environmental gradient of soil and light conditions. This environmentally based structuring may be mediated by differences in clonal growth and seedling recruitment through sexual reproduction. To study the interrelationship between environmental conditions and spatial patterns of clonal growth, the spatial genetic structure of four P. quadrifolia populations growing in strongly contrasting sites was determined. In the first place, plant excavations were performed in order to (i) determine differences in below-ground growth of genets, (ii) investigate connectedness of ramets and (iii) determine total genet size. Although no differences in internode length were found among sites, clones in moist sites were much smaller (genets usually consisted of 1-3 interconnected shoots, most of them flowering) than genets in dry sites, which consisted of up to 15 interconnected shoots, the majority of which were vegetative. Further, amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers were used. Clonal diversity was higher in populations located in moist and productive ash-poplar forests compared to those found in drier and less productive mixed forest sites (G/N: 0.27 and 0.14 and Simpson's D: 0.84 and 0.75, respectively). Patterns of spatial population genetic structure under dry conditions revealed several large clones dominating the entire population, whereas in moist sites many small genets were observed. Nevertheless, strong spatial genetic structure of the genet population was observed. Our results clearly demonstrate that patterns of clonal diversity and growth form of P. quadrifolia differ among environments. Limited seedling recruitment and large clone sizes due to higher connectedness of ramets explain the low clonal diversity in dry sites. In moist sites, higher levels of clonal diversity and small clone sizes indicate repeated seedling recruitment, whereas strong spatial genetic structure suggests limited seed dispersal within populations.  相似文献

对蛇足石杉的形态学特征进行了重新描述,并对不同光照处理下蛇足石杉叶片的气孔特征进行比较。结果表明:在一定范围内,随着环境中光照强度的增加,气孔长度和宽度、单个气孔面积、气孔密度及气孔总面积都呈增加的趋势。当光照强度超过某一阈值时其气孔指数和气孔密度仍呈增加的趋势,但气孔长度、宽度和单个气孔面积呈变小趋势。小而密的气孔是其适应旱生环境的表现,表明其具有一定的生态适应能力,但进行人工栽培时应避免光照过强。  相似文献

气孔是植物控制气体交换和调节水分散失的门户。大部分高等植物气孔的分布格局是相邻气孔之间被一至多个表皮细胞所间隔。而在有限分布的几个科属的植物种中发现气孔成簇分布的现象 ,即由 2至多个紧密相邻的气孔器组成相对独立的单元 ,称为气孔簇 (stomatalcluster)。以中国原产的盾叶秋海棠 (BegoniapeltatifoliaLi)为研究对象 ,探讨了叶表皮气孔簇的发育机制及其分布格局。结果表明 :气孔发育初期 ,气孔拟分生组织的成簇 (相邻紧密 )排列可能是气孔簇形成的主要机制 ;气孔副卫细胞恢复分裂形成的卫星拟分生组织也对气孔簇的形成起一定的作用。把气孔簇和单个气孔视为一个气孔单元发现 ,盾叶秋海棠气孔单元密度 (单位面积中气孔单元数 )和气孔单元大小 (气孔单元所包含气孔数 )在叶片上呈有规律的分布 :前者由叶片中部向叶尖、叶缘逐圈增多 ,而后者逐圈减少。对这种分布格局的成因进行了讨论  相似文献

主要观察了气孔在四季秋海棠营养器官和繁殖器官上的分布和发育情况,并分别对叶片和翅上气孔簇大小、气孔簇密度等指标的相关性进行了研究、结果表明:在叶片的下表皮、雌花和雄花的花被片、苞片、小苞片和翅上有气孔分布,而在茎、花梗上却未见气孔分布.叶片下表皮和翅上气孔通常成簇分布.在叶片的下表皮,气孔簇大小与气孔簇密度呈显著的负相关(P<0.05);气孔簇密度与叶片长度呈极显著的负相关(P<0.01).而翅上的气孔簇密度、气孔簇大小与子房长度无显著相关性(P>0.05).在四季秋海棠中,不同器官表皮的气孔簇大小是不同的,这可能与生理功能的不同有关.  相似文献

Native pasture yield and species composition within naturally occurring Eucalyptus communities of central Queensland were studied. Within a site, herbaceous yield decreased as tree basal area increased with the greatest relative decrease at sites with low pasture production potential. Mitscherlich regressions between herbaceous yield and tree basal area Y = A + B*e?kx) accounted for >80% of the observed variation at all sites. The absolute value of ‘k’ was greatest for those sites that had the lowest yield in the absence of trees. Pasture composition in treeless plots varied widely among sites. However, the direction of species compositional change was similar for all sites except one subject to short-term inundation on a heavy clay soil. Grass tribes differed in their occurrence in areas of high tree basal area. Andropogoneae had lower actual yield and percentage composition (by dry weight) at high tree basal area, while Paniceae showed the reverse trend. Non-grass herbaceous plants made a greater contribution to pasture composition at higher tree basal area although actual dry matter yield remained relatively constant over a wide range of basal areas.  相似文献

We aimed to disentangle the influence of environmental variables on the spatial patterns in stomatal occurrence and stomatal traits. We surveyed the stomatal occurrence and the stomatal length (SL), density (SD) and index (SI) of 99 species in 150 grassland sites on the Tibetan and Inner Mongolian Plateau to explore their spatial patterns and evaluate the influence of climate. Of all species studied, two thirds were amphistomatous. The species from the Tibetan Plateau had larger but fewer stomata than those from Inner Mongolia. Among the climate factors examined, temperature and insolation affected SD, SI and SL, whereas the CO2 partial pressure and the relative humidity affected SD. The climatic variables showed similar effects on the spatial variation of the adaxial and abaxial stomatal traits. We conclude that the low temperature and high insolation at high altitudes may be responsible for the larger and fewer stomata in plants on the Tibetan Plateau. The stomatal parameters that are presented here can be used to model the gas exchanges at the ecosystem scale.  相似文献

The coordination of veins and stomata during leaf acclimation to sun and shade can be facilitated by differential epidermal cell expansion so large leaves with low vein and stomatal densities grow in shade, effectively balancing liquid‐ and vapour‐phase conductances. As the difference in vapour pressure between leaf and atmosphere (VPD) determines transpiration at any given stomatal density, we predict that plants grown under high VPD will modify the balance between veins and stomata to accommodate greater maximum transpiration. Thus, we examined the developmental responses of these traits to contrasting VPD in a woody angiosperm (Toona ciliata M. Roem.) and tested whether the relationship between them was altered. High VPD leaves were one‐third the size of low VPD leaves with only marginally greater vein and stomatal density. Transpirational homeostasis was thus maintained by reducing stomatal conductance. VPD acclimation changed leaf size by modifying cell number. Hence, plasticity in vein and stomatal density appears to be generated by plasticity in cell size rather than cell number. Thus, VPD affects cell number and leaf size without changing the relationship between liquid‐ and vapour‐phase conductances. This results in inefficient acclimation to VPD as stomata remain partially closed under high VPD.  相似文献

Stomata of Commelina leaves pre-opened by incubation in moist air were found to close within 30 min when supplied with abscisic acid (ABA) via the transpiration stream. Radioactive ABA had similar effects, but allowed the distribution of the compound within the leaf to be measured and correlated with stomatal movements to give estimates of the sensitivity of Commelina stomata. On a whole-leaf basis, less than 163 fmol ABA per mm2 leaf area were present at the time of complete stomatal closure. This was close to other published estimates. By taking epidermal 14C measurements, however, it was possible to increase the accuracy of the estimate on the assumption that only ABA present in the epidermis was physiologically active. Thus, less than 235 amol ABA for stomatal complex were present at complete closure, and statistically significant narrowing of the stomatal aperture had occurred when between 12.6 and 45.4 amol per complex were present. The distribution of ABA within the epidermal tissue after transpiration-stream application was studied using microautoradiography, and the compound appeared to have accumulated within the stomatal complex.Abbreviations ABA abscisic acid - TLC thin-layer chromatography  相似文献

Environmental heterogeneity among sites can generate phenotypic and genetic variation facilitating differentiation and microevolution of plant populations. Badlands are desert‐like, predominantly vegetation‐poor habitats often embedded in (semi‐)dry grasslands. The desert‐like conditions of badlands demand extreme adaptation of plants, that is, phenotypic modifications in short‐term and/or natural adaptation in long‐term. However, detailed knowledge is missing about both plant phenotypic and genetic differentiation in this unique and widely occurring habitat type. The present study focused on the largest known badlands systems in Central Europe located in the “Drei Gleichen” region, a designated nature conservation area in Central Germany. Locations were suitable for this study in terms of having co‐occurring badlands and (semi‐)dry grassland habitats (sites) occupied by the pioneer plant Thymus praecox. Here, we studied the environmental preferences, morphological and functional trait variation, and genetic variation using microsatellite markers of T. praecox. Results revealed significant, mainly site‐dependent environmental, phenotypic, and genetic differentiation. In general, individuals in badlands are shorter in height and have lower patch sizes (length × width), relative growth rates, and smaller stomata. The PCA additionally unveiled slightly increased leaf robustness, trichome density, decreased stomatal conductance, fewer females, and earlier phenology in badlands. We interpret differentiation patterns as adaptive responses to light, temperature, drought, and nutrient stress conditions supported by reviewed literature. Genetic differentiation was strongest between local badlands and grassland sites, and clearly weaker among locations and between sites (in total) as indicated by GST, AMOVA, PCoA, and population structure. Our study supports the importance of small‐scale microhabitat conditions as a driver of microevolutionary processes, and the population's need for sufficient phenotypic variation and genetic resources to deal with environmental changes. We demonstrated that badlands are an appropriate model system for testing plant response to extreme habitats and that more research is needed on these fascinating landscapes.  相似文献

Temporal variation in allozyme frequencies at six loci was studied by making monthly collections over 4 yr in one population of the cactophilic species Drosophila buzzatii. Ten sites were defined within the study locality, and for all temporal samples, separate collections were made at each of these sites. Population structure over microgeographic space and changes in population structure over time were analyzed using F-statistic estimators, and multivariate analyses of allele and genotype frequencies with environmental variables were carried out. Allele frequencies showed significant variation over time, although there were no clear cyclical or seasonal patterns. A biplot analysis of allele frequencies over seasons within years and over years showed clear discrimination among years by alleles at four loci. During the 4 yr, three alleles showed directional changes which were associated with directional changes in environmental variables. Significant associations with one or more environmental variables were found for allele frequencies at every locus and for both expected and observed heterozygosities (except those for Est-1 and Est-2). Thus, variation in allele frequencies over time cannot be attributed solely to drift. Significant linkage disequilibria were detected among three loci (Est-2, Hex and Aldox), but there was no evidence for spatial or temporal patterns. The F-statistic analyses showed significant differentiation among months within years for all loci, but the statistic used (coancestry) was heterogeneous among loci. Estimates of F (inbreeding) for all loci were significantly different from zero, with the loci in four groups, Adh-1 (negative), Pgm(small positive), Est-2 and Hex (intermediate) and Est-1 and Aldox (high positive). The correlation of genes within individuals within populations (f) for each locus in each month by site sample differed among loci, as did the (f) for each locus in each month by site sample differed among loci, as did the patterns of change in f over time (seasons). Heterogeneity in the F-statistic estimates indicates that natural selection is directly or indirectly affecting allele and genotype frequencies at some loci. However, the F-statistic analyses showed essentially no microgeographic structure (i.e., among sites), although there was significant heterogeneity in allele frequencies among flies emerging from individual rots. Thus, microspatial heterogeneity probably is most important at the level of individual rots, and coupled with habitat selection, it could be a major factor promoting diversifying selection and the maintenance of polymorphism.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 400 WORDS)  相似文献

A mechanism for co-ordinating behaviour of stomata within an areole during patchy stomatal conductance has recently been proposed. This mechanism depends on hydraulic interactions among stomata that are mediated by transpiration-induced changes in epidermal turgor. One testable prediction that arises from this proposed mechanism is that the strength of hydraulic coupling among stomata should be proportional to evaporative demand and, therefore, inversely proportional to humidity. When a leaf is illuminated following a period of darkness, there is typically a period of time, termed the Spannungsphase, during which guard cell osmotic and turgor pressure are increasing, but the pore remains closed. If hydraulic coupling is proportional to evaporative demand, then variation among stomata in the duration of the Spannungsphase should be lower for leaves at low humidity than for leaves at high humidity. A similar prediction emerged from a computer model based on the proposed hydraulic mechanisms. These predictions were tested by measuring individual stomatal apertures on intact transpiring leaves at low and high humidity and on vacuum-infiltrated leaf pieces (to eliminate transpiration) as PFD was increased to high values from either darkness or a low value. Results showed that the range of Spannungsphasenamong stomata was reduced at low humidity compared to high humidities. Experiments that began at low PFD, rather than at darkness, showed no delay in stomatal opening. These results are discussed in the context of the proposed hydraulic coupling mechanisms.  相似文献

In this study, the role of abscisic acid (ABA) in altered stomatal responses of Tradescantia virginiana leaves grown at high relative air humidity (RH) was investigated. A lower ABA concentration was found in leaves grown at high RH compared with leaves grown at moderate RH. As a result of a daily application of 20 microM ABA to leaves for 3 weeks during growth at high RH, the stomata of ABA-treated leaves grown at high RH showed the same behaviour as did the stomata of leaves grown at moderate RH. For example, they closed rapidly when exposed to desiccation. Providing a high RH around a single leaf of a plant during growth at moderate RH changed the stomatal responses of this leaf. The stomata in this leaf grown at high RH did not close completely in response to desiccation in contrast to the stomata of the other leaves from the same plant. The ABA concentration on a fresh weight basis, though not on a dry weight basis, of this leaf was significantly lower than that of the others. Moreover, less closure of stomata was found in the older leaves of plants grown at high RH in response to desiccation compared with younger leaves. This was correlated with a lower ABA concentration in these leaves on a fresh weight basis, though not on a dry weight basis. Stomata of leaves grown at moderate RH closed in response to short-term application of ABA or sodium nitroprusside (SNP), while for leaves grown at high RH there was a clear difference in stomatal responses between the leaf margins and main-vein areas. The stomatal aperture in response to short-term application of ABA or SNP at the leaf margins of leaves grown at high RH remained significantly wider than in the main-vein areas. It was concluded that: (i) a long-term low ABA concentration in well-watered plants during growth at high RH could be a reason for less or no stomatal closure under conditions of drought stress; and (ii) the long-term ABA concentration on a fresh weight basis rather than on a dry weight basis is likely to be responsible for structural or physiological changes in stomata during leaf growth.  相似文献

Summary The stomata of plants growing in the Negev Desert, namely the stomata of the mesomorphic leaves of Prunus armeniaca, the xeromorphic stems of Hammada scoparia, and the succulent leaves of Zygophyllum dumosum, respond to changes in air humidity. Under dry air conditions diffusion resistance increases. Under moist air conditions diffusion resistance decreases. When the stomata close at low air humidity the water content of the apricot leaves increases. The stomata open at high air humidity in spite of a decrease in leaf water content. This excludes a reaction via the water potential in the leaf tissue and proves that the stomatal aperture has a direct response to the evaporative conditions in the atmosphere. In all species the response to air humidity is maintained over a period of many hours also when the soil is considerably dry. The response is higher in plants with poor water supply then in well watered plants. Thus for field conditions and for morphologically different types of photosynthesizing organs the results confirm former experiments carried out with isolated epidermal strips.  相似文献
