The patterns of coiling of the gut were compared in 22 species of Eurasian Cyprinidae. In selected species, also the length of gut and mucosal surface structure were compared. Piscivorous ( Aspius aspius ), planktivorous ( Abramis ballerus ) fishes as well as species feeding mainly on plankton and wind-borne' drift'( Alburnus alhurnus, Pelecus cultratus ) have the relatively shortest guts, with only a single loop. The same simple arrangement of a short gut is present in many euryphagous species with more or less carnivorous tendencies ( Abramis sapa, Alburnoides bipunctalus, Abramis brama, Blicca bjoerkna, Chalcalburnus chalcoides memo, Gobio gobio, Leuciscus cephalus, Leuciscus leuciscus, Rutilus rutilus, Scardinius erythrophthalmus. Tinea tinea, Vimba vimba ). Some benthivorous winnowers (oropharyngeal sorters) and species with herbivorous feeding tendencies have relatively long guts showing a more complex pattern of loops and coils ( Barbus barbus, Carassius carassius, Chondrostoma nasus, Ctenopharyngodon idella, Cyprinus carpio ). The goldfish, Carassius auratus , has the most complex coils. Scanning electron microscopy of the mucosal surface revealed five types of folding in the intestinal bulb which were only loosely related to feeding: 1, smooth surface ( Aspius aspius, Leuciscus cephalus, Vimba vimba ); 2, irregularly branching folds ( Alhurnus alburnus, Barbus barbus, Blicca bjoerkna, Chalcalburnus chalcoides memo, Leuciscus leuciscus, Rutilus rutilus, Scardinius erythrophthalmus ); 3, curl-like folds ( Tinea tinea ); 4, net-like folding pattern ( Abramis brama ); 5, honeycomb-like mucosal structure ( Cyprinus carpio ).  相似文献

Iberian minnows collectively known as the Tropidophoxinellus alburnoides STEINDACHNER complex comprise diploid and polyploid forms with highly female biased sex ratios. Previous investigators suggested that all-female clonal reproduction and interspecific hybridization may occur in this complex. We examined nuclear (allozymes) and cytoplasmic genes (mtDNA) to assess the evolutionary origins, relationships, and reproductive modes of T. alburnoides from western Spain. The multi-locus allozyme data clearly revealed the hybrid nature of all polyploid forms of this fish and some diploid forms as well. Diagnostic markers identified fish from the genus Leuciscus as the paternal ancestor of hybrids in the Duero and Guadiana River Basins. Additionally, analysis of nuclear markers revealed that hybridogenetic reproduction occurs in the diploid and triploid hybrids. The hybrids fully express the paternal Leuciscus genome and then discard it during oogenesis. Hybridogenetic ova contain only maternal nuclear genes and mtDNA from a non-hybrid T. alburnoides ancestor. Apparently diploid and triploid hybrids of T. alburnoides persist as sperm parasites on males of a sexually reproducing Leuciscus host species.  相似文献

The phylogenetic relationships of 492 chub (Leuciscus cephalus) belonging to 89 populations across the species' range were assessed using 600 base pairs of cytochrome b. Furthermore, nine species belonging to the L. cephalus complex were also analysed (over the whole cytochrome b) in order to test potential allopatric hybridization with L. cephalus sensu stricto (i.e. the chub). Our results show that the chub includes four highly divergent lineages descending from a quick radiation that took place three million years ago. The geographical distribution of these lineages and results of the nested clade analysis indicated that the chub may have originated from Mesopotamia. Chub radiation probably occurred during an important vicariant event such as the isolation of numerous Turkish river systems, a consequence of the uplift of the Anatolian Plateau (formerly covered by a broad inland lake). Dispersion of these lineages arose from the changes in the European hydrographic network and, thus, the chub and endemic species of the L. cephalus complex met by secondary contacts. Our results show several patterns of introgression, from Leuciscus lepidus fully introgressed by chub mitochondrial DNA to Leuciscus borysthenicus where no introgression at all was detected. We assume that these hybridization events might constitute an important evolutionary process for the settlement of the chub in new environments in the Mediterranean area.  相似文献

The dace (Leuciscus leuciscus), with a very large geographic distribution all over Europe, represents an interesting species model for studies of the global mechanisms underlying aquatic system biodiversity. To assess the congruence with the past colonization process hypothesis of the freshwater fauna in Western Europe, we investigated the evolutionary history of this species, by integrating morphological variation (eight meristic characters), mitochondrial (cytochrome b, 16S rDNA and control region, over a total of 2169 bp) and nuclear (12 allozymes loci) phylogenetic relationships, and investigating population dynamics via expansion, migration, bottleneck, and divergence time analyses. We carried out nested clade phylogeographic analysis for a total of 663 specimens from 31 populations taken from all over the distribution area. Unlike previous studies, we found that L. leuciscus is currently constituted by five lineages belonging to two clades (yielding 6.3% of pairwise divergence). The relationships between these lineages were accounted for by complex biogeographical patterns due to Pliocene and Pleistocene paleoclimatic events, validating the identification of new glacial refuges for freshwater fish in Western Europe. Ten novel polymorphic microsatellites were isolated from the dace complex (Leuciscus leuciscus), which is a European cyprinid species. Four multiplex polymerase chain reaction sets were optimized in order to genotype 26 polymorphic loci in all, including 16 previously published cyprinid-specific loci. The level of genetic diversity was assessed in 142 dace individuals. We also successfully applied 26 of the microsatellites to 10 related species. These primers thus will be useful to assess population structure of the dace and other cyprinid species, with application for conservation issues and phylogeographical approaches.  相似文献

Cytochrome b (cyt b) sequences from specimens of the Rutilus alburnoides unisexual complex and five bisexual species were compared to examine hypotheses regarding the origin and maternal ancestry of this complex. Phylogenetic analysis revealed a monophyletic relationship among unisexuals and Leuciscus pyrenaicus, clearly identifying this species as the maternal ancestor. Considerable mtDNA diversity exists among R. alburnoides populations, with many localities exhibiting unique haplotypes. The topology recovered from analysis of cyt b variation among populations suggested that R. alburnoides is polyphyletically derived from their sympatric L. pyrenaicus populations, indicating that unisexual lineages have been generated through multiple hybridization events. Although much less abundant, R. alburnoides is present outside the range of L. pyrenaicus, suggesting that it may have dispersed from the Tejo drainage into the northern basins. In this region, Leuciscus carolitertii is most likely the sexual host for the unisexual complex.  相似文献

Out of six fish species examined (Esox lucius, Paracottus kessleri, Perca fluviatilis, Leuciscus leuciscus baicalensis, Coregonus autumnalis migratorius, Thymallus arcticus baicalensis) labrocyte-like cells were detected in Esox lucius, Leuciscus leuciscus baicalensis, Coregonus autumnalis migratotius. The cells contain large metachromatic granules. Histochemical methods revealed in them sulfated and carboxylic acid mucopolysacharides. The amount of labrocyte-like cells in the capsules around plerocercoids of Triaenophrus nodulosis from Esox lucits liver depends on the age of the capsule and that of the plerocercoid. It increases when the connective tissue papsule is forming and decreases again under aging and degeneration of the capsule containing plerocercoid. The amount of labrocyte-like cells in the cestodes capsules of Raillietina increases sharply when they locate in an accidental organ (liver). This demonstrates the acuteness of organ reactivity to a nonspecific helminth.  相似文献

By Falck's method monoaminocytes of the arteries in the encephalon base were studied in Teleostei (Anarhichas lupus, Eleginus navaga, Leuciscus brandti Liza soiuy in amphibians (Rana temporaria, Rana semiplicata, Bufo bufo), in reptiles (Testudo horsfiedli, Trionyx chinensis) and in birds (blue rock pigeon, hen). Specific and individual peculiarities in chromaffinocyte, labrocyte and melanophore distribution were revealed in the vertebrate cranial arteries. In all the animals studied chromaffin cells are more frequent in the lateral olfactory artery. Their concentration decreases towards cranial, caudal branches of the internal carotid artery, the main and internal carotid arteries. The greatest amount of chromaffinocytes was found in the cranial arteries of Anarhichas lupus, then comes Eleginus navaga, Leuciscus brandti and Liza soiny Concentration of melanophores in fishes increases with enlargement of the vascular diameter; these cells are more abundant in the arteries of Anarhichas lupus and in less amount in Eleginus navaga, Leuciscus brandti and Liza. Pigmented cells are more abundant in the internal carotid artery and its cranial and caudal branches than in lateral, olfactory and main arteries of fishes. On the contrary, in amphibians, the main artery contains a maximal concentration of melanophores. In the tortoise cranial arteries, there are only single cells of this type, and birds have no such cells. Labrocytes occur in the greatest concentration in the tortoise cranial arteries and in other vertebrates they are scarce or absent. As a whole, the role of the local endocrine link in regulation of the brain arteries mobility decreases in the following way: fishes--amphibians--reptiles--birds.  相似文献

A genetic survey of 18 presumptive enzyme loci was conducted on members of the diploid-triploid R. alburnoides complex in order to test the hypothesis of hybrid origin. Most specimens examined were heterozygous at a high proportion of loci, with seven loci showing virtually fixed heterozygosity in some or all populations. This observation strongly supports the hypothesized hybrid ancestry. Involvement in the origin of the R. alburnoides complex was examined by comparison of allels with those observed in the other diploid cyprinids that inhabit the same Portuguese drainages. Allelic composition at the homozygous loci IDDH* and LDH-B* seems to rule out the genus Chondrostoma and other members of the genus Rutilus as one of the ancestors, and supports Leuciscus sp. as one parental species involved in the putative hybrid origin of the R. alburnoides complex. Moreover, with few exceptions, all specimens exhibited at every locus one or two alleles also present in extant populations of Leuciscus. The indentity of the other parental taxon remains unclear. Five diploid males exhibited multilocus genotypes that fit to the hypothetical genotype(s) of the ‘missing’ ancestor. However, the possibility exists that a hybrid female could produce or re-create a genotype of a parental species.  相似文献

Mediterranean reports of Gracilariaceae species, in particular those assigned to the G. verrucosa complex, were re-examined with the use of molecular tools, in order to verify their systematic position and better understand their distribution. Within this complex, we recognized four distinct taxa: Gracilariopsis longissima, Gracilaria gracilis, Gracilaria longa and a possible new species. The rbcL gene sequences, together with those of other terete Mediterranean entities, were included in a broad molecular phylogeny of the family. The reproductive characters of the studied taxa do not fit completely with published hypothesis on the generic and intrageneric relationships, suggesting that the anatomy of some subgroups should be better characterized.  相似文献

In 23 populations of Greek Leuciscus ( Squalius ), the percentage of polymorphic allozyme loci ranged between 0·034 and 0·379 (P=0·19) and expected heterozygosity was 0·011–0·166 (He=0·067). Current taxonomy is confusing and does not correspond to genetic data that support the presence in Greece of at least seven different species: L. cephalus , L. peloponnensis , L. prespensis , L. moreoticus , L. borysthenicus , L. keadicus and Leuciscus sp. from Euboea Island. The maximum Nei modified genetic distance was found among L. keadicus and the rest of subgenus Squalius populations D * Nei=0·446–0·705). Accepting the molecular clock hypothesis, speciation for the genus Leuciscus in Greece must have occurred during the Cenozoic period (between the Middle Miocene and the Later Pliocene). The two main biogeographical events causing speciation on mainland Greece were the Uplift of the Pindic cordillera and the isolation of the southern part of Peloponnesus. The faunistic composition of the lakes studied, in which new taxa are reconsidered, suggests the same faunistic origin in the Early Pliocene for Lakes Prespa and Stymphalia and a younger one in the Late Pliocene for Lake Trichonis. Euboea Island was not a zoogeographical unit during the Cenozoic. The isolation of all the freshwater fish fauna of Euboea has occurred since the Pliocene. The biogeographical model proposed here differs from classical hypotheses in considering of lesser importance the dispersion of L. cephalus on the Greek mainland during the Neogene and Quaternary.  相似文献

Analyses of the fine structure of the posterior choroid plexus in the teleost Leuciscus rutilus and the determination of the presence and function of the enzymes acid and alkaline phosphatases, ATPase and glucose-6-phosphatase confirm similarities between these epithelial cells and the saccus dorsalis and also with the epithelial cells of the choroid plexus found in mammals. The teleost plexus cells contain coated vesicles which are derived from the plasmalemma as well as from the Golgi complex. Moreover, they contain multivesicular bodies and Iysosomes. These organelles function in the absorption of substances from the cerebrospinal fluid and in the breakdown of these substances within the cells. The investigated enzymes play an important role in the secretion of electrolytes into the cerebrospinal fluid by active membrane transport.  相似文献

1. Climatic effects are increasingly being recognised as an important factor causing inter‐annual variability in organism abundances in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. This study investigated the relationships between water temperature (cumulative degree‐days >12 °C), river discharge (cumulative discharge‐days above basal discharge rate), the position of the North Wall of the Gulf Stream (NWGS), and the 0+ growth (September mean length) and recruitment success (year‐class strength, YCS) of three species of cyprinid fishes in two contrasting English lowland rivers, using a 21‐year dataset. 2. Contrary to the majority of studies on 0+ fishes, growth in the Yorkshire Ouse was most significantly correlated with river discharge, with water temperature of less importance. By contrast, temperature was more influential than discharge in the River Trent, possibly because of its regulated hydrological regime, although none of the relationships were statistically significant for this river. 3. Year‐class strength of roach (Rutilus rutilus) was positively correlated with the position of the NWGS, and there was evidence of synchrony in recruitment success between rivers, but the relationships were poorer for chub (Leuciscus cephalus) and dace (Leuciscus leuciscus). The strongest relationships between YCS and discharge during specific time periods were for when the fish were in their early (especially larval) developmental stages, although none of the relationships were statistically significant because of inter‐annual variations in river discharge relative to the timing of fish hatching. 4. Fishes are key predators in the majority of aquatic ecosystems and, as such, fluctuations in their abundances can have implications for ecosystem functioning as a whole. This study has demonstrated an underlying influence of broad‐scale climatic effects on the recruitment of riverine fishes, in spite of local variations in biotic and abiotic conditions. The relative importance of various abiotic factors on the recruitment success of riverine cyprinid populations varies spatially and temporally. For example, river discharge is likely to be of relatively greater importance in poorly‐structured rivers or those that are prone to large and rapid fluctuations in flow, while temporal variations occur because of inter‐annual differences in river discharge relative to the timing of fish hatching. Biotic factors may also be important determinants of fish recruitment success, especially in rivers with stable and predictable flow regimes.  相似文献

In the Rybinsk Reservoir (Upper Volga basin), a sharp decrease in the occurrence of Apophallus muehlingi (Jagerskiold) parthenites was found in the population of the Ponto-Caspian snail Lithoglyphus naticoides Pfeiffer in 2009–2010. In the muscles of cyprinid underyearlings (ide Leuciscus idus (L.) and dace Leuciscus leuciscus (L.)), interspecific differences in protein content were revealed following their infection by metacercariae in the experimental environment. The helminth infection caused an increase in glycogen content in both fish species. A reduction of motor activity induced by muscle damage might be the main reason for the observed changes in biochemical characteristics.  相似文献

Panjet‐applied alcian blue did not produce a reliable long‐term (> 5 months) mark. Average time to mark loss was 9·5 months for chub Leuciscus cephalus, 6·0 months for dace Leuciscus leuciscus and 11·1 months for roach Rutilus rutilus. Growth rate did not influence retention.  相似文献

Although Tropicoperdix has been considered to be either a full genus or a species complex within the Phasianid genus Arborophila (hill partridges), there is long‐standing uncertainty regarding the degree of difference that warrants generic separation, including reported anatomical cranial differences. In addition, the intra‐generic taxonomy remains under dispute. Most studies hypothesize that Tropicoperdix comprises three species, while others postulate from one to four species. However, no molecular study has been performed to clarify the systematic and taxonomic uncertainties surrounding Tropicoperdix. In the present study, we performed a series of molecular phylogenetic analyses of Tropicoperdix and Arborophila taxa based on two mitochondrial genes and five nuclear introns. All the results are consistent with the finding that Tropicoperdix and Arborophila are phylogenetically distinct and distant genera, although the precise phylogenetic position of Tropicoperdix remains undetermined. Retrospective examination of external characteristics also supports the generic separation, as well as providing evidence of remarkable multiple character convergence. We propose that Tropicoperdix comprises at least two full species based on mitochondrial data obtained from museum specimens by using a next‐generation sequencing method. © 2015 The Linnean Society of London  相似文献

An increase in individual growth rate of chub Leuciscus cephalus along a longitudinal river gradient of the Rhône River basin was observed and supported by significant differences between mean growth rates of successive river size groups.
