A revision of the list of Copepoda produced recently by Fernando (1980) was necessary to take in account the progress of knowledge in this field. 25 species were listed. Now, seven of them keep their name. Another one is placed in another genus. Seven mistakes were corrected. Two species are new for Science,Microcyclops elegans andThermocyclops orientalis. Two varieties of already known species are also described. Eleven species are new for Sri Lanka. Three other, noted by Fernando (1980) do not seem to exist in Sri Lanka and four were not found again in the numerous samples studied.

A newOphryotrocha species (polychaeta, eunicidae) from Japan
A new Japanese species ofOphryotrocha is described. It is characterized by oblong cells forming star-shaped glands of unknown function on the 6th to 12th of the youngest segments.Ophryotrocha notoglandulata n. sp. is closely related toOphryotrocha labronica Bacci &La Greca; both have the same chromosome number (2 n=6). The new species is gonochoristic with a sex ratio of approximately 1.5:1. In mass culture as well as in couples, no mutual influence on sex determination was found. It is impossible to obtain hybrids betweenO. labronica and the new species.

Summary A new species and genus of mousebird (Coliiformes: Coliidae) from the Oligocene (Rupelian) of Frauenweiler near Wiesloch (Baden-Württemberg, Germany) is described.Oligocolius brevitarsus n. gen. n. sp. is the first Oligocene mousebird and one of the most complete skeletons of early Tertiary Coliidae to have come to light so far. The new taxon has a more strongly developed wing and a much shorter tarsometatarsus than recent mousebirds and was probably adapted to a more sustained flight.

25 populations from Turkey and one of Syria belonging to theSabulina section of the genusMinuartia have been karyologically examined. New chromosome numbers have been recorded forM. mesogitana andM. hybrida subsp.turcica, and a new variety was found in theM. hybrida complex. The origin of the taxa with n = 23 and n = 35 is discussed.

Summary The first fossil mousebird (Aves, Coliiformes) known from the Eocene of England is described. This taxon,Eocolius walkeri gen. n. sp. n., is assigned to the order Coliiformes (mousebirds) on the basis of a character of the proximal ulna (large cotyla dorsalis). The degree of similarity between the preserved elements ofEocolius and those of the other known fossil and Recent taxa further support this conclusion. At present, this new taxon is considered to occupy an unresolved position near to the base of the coliiform ingroup; the phylogenetic position ofEocolius cannot be resolved further owing to a lack of preservation of diagnostic characters.

An Archaeotrogon (Aves: Archaeotrogonidae) from the Middle Eocene of the Grube Messel (Hessen, Germany)?
Summary A bird from the Middle Eocene of the Grube Messel (Hessen, Deutschland) is described as a new genus and species of the Archaeotrogonidae Mourer-Chauviré 1980 (incertae sedis). The specimens from Messel would be the first articulated skeletons of this family.Hassiavis laticauda n. gen. n. sp. is distinguished from the genusArchaeotrogon Milne-Edwards 1892 in the morphology of the coracoid. The excellent preservation of the wing feathers and those of the tail in several of the specimens is exceptional. Some tail feathers of the holotype are barred, which might be traced back to the original pigmentation of these feathers. The phylogenetic position of the Archaeotrogonidae is discussed. At present no synapomorphies are known, which could set up a closer relationship between this family and one of the existing orders.

Migmaster angularis n. gen. n. sp. (Trichasteropsiidae, Forcipulatacea, Asteroidea) is described from the German Triassic Lower Muschelkalk of Anisian (Pelsonian) age, and new specimens ofTrichasteropsis bielertorum broaden understanding of this species. Phylogenetic events linking the stem groups, known only from Paleozoic rocks, with the crown group, known only from post-Paleozoic rocks, are problematic; the new fossils partially constrain phylogenetic changes associated with emergence of crown-group asteroids.

Detailed analyses of karyology and leaf morphology do not support relationships betweenFlacourtiaceae andTiliaceae. In spite of different chromosome numbers,Prockia (2n = 18),Flacourtia (2n = 22) andRawsonia (2n = 22) are very similar in karyomorphology, indicating a certain karyological uniformity withinFlacourtiaceae. Lacistema (2n = ca. 62) appears more isolated. On the other hand, theTiliaceae Grewia (2n = 18) andLuhea (2n = 36) have much in common and differ remarkably from the Flacourtiaceous genera. The salicoid leaf-teeth ofProckia are also found inIdesia, but never inTiliaceae. Epidermis ultrastructure reveals certain relationships betweenProckia andFlacourtia in contrast to the strongly differingGrewia. Idesia has a rare und unique epidermis sculpture. — Basic chromosome numbers and chromosomal evolution within theFlacourtiaceae are discussed.

Two new bryozoan species of the trepostome family Dyscritellidae,Dyscritellopsis thaynesianus n. sp. andDyscritellopsis montelloensis n. sp., are described from the Early Triassic (Smithian/Spathian) Thaynes Limestone, Nevada (USA). The bryozoan fauna documents the survival of Paleozoic lineages into the earliest Triassic on northern open shelves outside the tropics. The fauna holds paleobiogeo-graphic connections to the Early Triassic bryozoan faunas of Spitsbergen.

Some trilobite remains are described from the Lower Carboniferous/Mississippian (Tournaisian/Viséan boundary) of S-China, representing two species:Liobole (Liobole) devuysti n. sp. andLiobole (Sulcubole) xiangzhouensis n. sp.Liobole is a typical member of the central European Kulm Facies and index fossil for the Erdbachian. For the first time, twoLiobole species are recorded from outside of Europe. They demonstrate that a passage existed between Europe and East Asia across the Palaeotethys through which Kulm trilobites have occupied new geographical regions.
