Two types of Sri Lankan ginger were examined (Sidda and Chinese varieties) and essential oils of both fresh and dried samples were prepared by standard procedures. Both varieties yielded relatively high percentages of oil (between 1.8 and 4.3%) and total aroma volatiles (ca 5 mg/g for dried samples). Analysis by GC and GC/MS showed terpenes to be the main aroma components (ca 99% for all samples). A number of the identified compounds have not previously been reported as ginger volatiles, including trans-β-ocimene, thujyl alcohol, terpinen-4-ol, myrtenal, guaiene, α-cubebene, δ-cadinene and farnesol. On drying, both varieties of Sri Lankan ginger showed considerable decrease in monoterpene content and very high increase in sesquiterpene concentration. Comparing the aroma volatiles of Sri Lankan dried ginger with those previously reported for dried ginger from some other countries, it was concluded that Sri Lankan ginger was as good as, if not superior to, other types. In particular, SriLankan dried ginger showed high levels of ar-curcumene together with reasonable levels of citral isomers and all other constituents previously claimed to be important to ginger aroma. Sri Lankan ginger would appear to be unusual in containing very low amounts of zingiberene but very high amounts of β-bisabolene.  相似文献

The present study aimed to evaluate the toxicity and biochemical changes of Tuta absoluta 3rd instar larvae affected by neemazal T/S, clove oil and ginger oil. These compounds were evaluated compared to the recommended pesticide, Coragen 20% SC. by means of sublethal concentrations, LC25 and LC50 under constant laboratory conditions. Results showed that neemazal T/S is more toxic than detected oils compared with higher toxicity of coragen with LC50 values of 57.52, 159.94, 633.38 and 930.71 μg mL?1 for coragen, neemazal, ginger oil and clove oil, respectively. There were highly significant differences between all treatments and untreated larvae. Neemazal possessed the greatest effect on activity level of most physiological parameters than selected oils. Larval content of digestive enzymes was decreased significantly 48 h after all treatments except for lipase, α-esterase and β-esterase (in case of coragen and clove oil). Also, total proteins, total carbohydrates, total lipids and total free amino acids take the same trend. Based on this study, these sublethal doses caused a significantly dose-dependent perturbation in determined components.  相似文献

A milk coagulating protease was purified ∼10.2-fold to apparent homogeneity from ginger rhizomes in 34.9% recovery using ammonium sulfate fractionation, together with ion exchange and size exclusion chromatographic techniques. The molecular mass of the purified protease was estimated to be ∼36 kDa by SDS-PAGE, and exhibited a pI of 4.3. It is a glycoprotein with 3% carbohydrate content. The purified enzyme showed maximum activity at pH 5.5 and at a temperature of ∼60 °C. Its protease activity was strongly inhibited by iodoacetamide, E-64, PCMB, Hg2+ and Cu2+. Inhibition studies and N-terminal sequence classified the enzyme as a member of the cysteine proteases. The cleavage capability of the isolated enzyme was higher for αs-casein followed by β- and κ-casein. The purified enzyme differed in molecular mass, pI, carbohydrate content, and N-terminal sequence from previously reported ginger proteases. These results indicate that the purified protease may have potential application as a rennet substitute in the dairy industry.  相似文献

The antiradical properties of three samples of ginger (Zingiber officinale R.)—juice from fresh rhizome, essential oil, and extracts (oleoresin)—were studied and compared with the properties of synthetic antioxidant ionol (butylatedhydroxy-toluene, BHT). Reaction antioxidants with stable free 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrozyl radicals were used as model systems. DPPH equivalents per gram of ginger sample, EC50, and antiradical efficiency (AE) were determined. The EC50 and AE values for ginger oleoresin and BHT were similar. They were the same as those of highly active natural antioxidants, and the values for essential oil and ginger juice were lower by two orders of magnitude. On the base of kinetic parameters, the ginger samples may belong to antiradical compounds with prolonged action.  相似文献

The whitefly Bemisia argentifolii Bellows & Perring is an economically important pest of tomatoes, Lycopersicon esculentum Mill., inducing an irregular ripening disorder of fruit and transmitting plant pathogenic viruses. With the goal of investigating ginger oil as a protectant for tomato plants, we tested the effects of concentration of ginger oil and application methods on repellency to whitefly in a vertical still-air olfactometer. In choice and no-choice experiments conducted in a greenhouse, we evaluated whether ginger oil would protect tomato seedlings from whitefly settling and oviposition. Ginger oil repelled whitefly adults in the vertical olfactometer. The repellency of ginger oil was attributed to its odor, effective at the concentrations used over a distance of 1-2 mm. Tomato leaf disks dipped in ginger oil repelled whiteflies at concentrations of 0.5, 0.75, and 1%, but not at concentrations <0.5%, in a dose-response experiment conducted in the olfactometer. Repellency increased with increasing ginger oil concentration when leaf disks were dipped in ginger oil but not when ginger oil was sprayed onto the leaf disks. Higher quantities of monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes were deposited on leaf disks dipped in ginger oil than on sprayed leaf disks according to gas chromatographic quantification. In the greenhouse, both choice and no-choice tests were conducted with tomato seedlings dipped in 0.25% ginger oil solution or 2% Tween 20, as treatment and control, respectively. In the choice test, 35-42% fewer whitefly adults settled and 37% fewer eggs were laid during the 24-h exposure period on tomato plants dipped in ginger oil solution than on plants dipped in 2% Tween 20. In the no-choice test, 10.2-16.7% fewer whiteflies settled on treated plants compared with control plants but no significant differences were detected in the number of eggs laid. Higher concentrations of ginger oil could not be used without causing severe wilting of tomato leaves. Ginger oil has potential as a protectant of tomato seedlings against B. argentifolii, but issues of phytotoxicity and coverage need to be addressed.  相似文献

The essential oil from the wood of Lansium anamalayanum Bedd. is shown to consist essentially of (?)-α-gurjunene (34%), (?)-α-trans-bergamotene (26%) and (?)-β-bisabolene (35%). The previously reported ‘chigadmarene’ has been found to be impure α-gurjunene. This essential oil is the richest known source for (?)-α-trans-bergamotene.  相似文献

Ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) has been used as a food, spice, supplement and flavoring agent and in traditional medicines due to its beneficial characteristics such as pungency, aroma, nutrients and pharmacological activity. Ginger and ginger extracts were reported to have numerous effects, such as those on diabetes and metabolic syndrome, cholesterol levels and lipid metabolism, and inflammation, revealed by epidemiological studies. To understand the beneficial characteristics of ginger, especially its physiological and pharmacological activities at the molecular level, the biological effects of ginger constituents, such as monoterpenes (cineole, citral, limonene and α/β-pinenes), sesquiterpenes (β-elemene, farnesene and zerumbone), phenolics (gingerols, [6]-shogaol, [6]-paradol and zingerone) and diarylheptanoids (curcumin), and the associated signaling pathways are summarized. Ginger constituents are involved in biological activities, such as apoptosis, cell cycle/DNA damage, chromatin/epigenetic regulation, cytoskeletal regulation and adhesion, immunology and inflammation, and neuroscience, and exert their effects through specific signaling pathways associated with cell functions/mechanisms such as autophagy, cellular metabolism, mitogen-activated protein kinase and other signaling, and development/differentiation. Estrogens, such as phytoestrogens, are one of the most important bioactive materials in nature, and the molecular mechanisms of estrogen actions and the assays to detect them have been discussed. The molecular mechanisms of estrogen actions induced by ginger constituents and related applications, such as the chemoprevention of cancers, and the improvement of menopausal syndromes, osteoporosis, endometriosis, prostatic hyperplasia, polycystic ovary syndrome and Alzheimer's disease, were summarized by a comprehensive search of references to understand more about their health benefits and associated health risks.  相似文献

Cineolic essential oils are used in medicinal, perfumery and flavour preparations. 1,8-Cineole, being an ecofriendly compound, has the potential to replace the ozone depleting industrial solvents. Optimized process parameters for hydrodistillation and production of essential oil enriched with 1,8-cineole from Eucalyptus cinerea grown in the mid-hills of western Himalaya, were reported. The effect of drying of the foliage prior to distillation with respect to oil composition and content was studied. The first order kinetic and Langmuir adsorption models were evaluated to simulate hydrodistillation of E. cinerea oil. The Langmuir model parameters that simulate the hydrodistillation process were determined. GCMS analysis revealed that the oil produced from fresh foliage contained higher 1,8-cineole content (84.4%) than the dried foliage (77.6%). The composition of the essential oil ofPimpinella anisum L fruit is determined by GC and GC-MS. The volatile oil content obtained by hydrodistillation was 1.91%. Ten compounds representing 98.3% of the oil was identified. The main constituents of he oil obtained from dried fruits were trans-a nethole (93.9%) and estragole (2.4%). The olfactorially valuable constituents that were found with concentration higher than 0.06% were (E)-methyeugenol, α-cuparene, α-himachalene, β-bisabolene, p-anisaldehyde and cis-anethole. Also, the different concentrations of anise oil exerted varying levels of inhibitory effects on the mycelial growth off/ternaria alternata, Aspergillus niger andAspergillus parasiticus used in experimental. The results showed that the most effected fungus from anise oil wasA. parasiticus, which is followed byA. niger andA. alternata. Individual of this plant oil may provide a useful to achive adequate shelf-life of foods.  相似文献

用GC/MS方法,定性定量地分析了用3种不同方法提取的姜油的化学成分,分别鉴定了46,50,61个化合物。蒸馏油主要含有单萜、倍半萜烯类化合物,未见生姜特有的辣味成分。冷榨油和超临界CO2萃取油除倍半萜类化合物外,主要含有辣味成分,含量分别为18.61%,23.09%。冷榨油及超临界CO2萃取油较好地保持了生姜的特征辛香气及辣味成分  相似文献

在蔗糖水溶液中加入不同浓度的生姜精油饲喂野生型黑腹果蝇成虫,用时间-剂量-死亡率模型对96h内各处理果蝇成虫累计死亡率随时间、剂量的变化进行拟合.结果表明:较高浓度的生姜精油对果蝇成虫具有较强的急性毒性.0.5%生姜精油作用72h,果蝇成虫的累计死亡率分别为雌88%、雄79%;1%和10%生姜精油作用72h,雌雄成虫的累计死亡率均达100%.随着处理时间的延长,达到50%致死水平所需生姜精油浓度(即LC50)逐渐降低.Tween-20对果蝇成虫(尤其是雄虫)也有较强的毒性,高浓度时作用尤为明显.  相似文献

Previous research showed that exposure to ginger root, Zingiber officinale Roscoe, oil increased the mating success of mass-reared, sterile males of the Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann). This work, however, involved the exposure of small groups of males (n = 25) in small containers (volume 400 ml). Several sterile male release programs use plastic adult rearing containers (so-called PARC boxes; hereafter termed storage boxes; 0.48 by 0.60 by 0.33 m) to hold mature pupae and newly emerged adults before release (approximately = 36,000 flies per box). The objective of the current study was to determine whether the application of ginger root oil to individual storage boxes increases the mating competitiveness of sterile C. capitata males. Irradiated pupae were placed in storage boxes 2 d before adult emergence, and in the initial experiment (adult exposure) ginger root oil was applied 5 d later (i.e., 3 d after peak adult emergence) for 24 h at doses of 0.0625, 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 ml. In a second experiment (pupal-adult exposure), ginger root oil was applied to storage boxes immediately after pupal placement and left for 6 d (i.e., 4 d after peak adult emergence) at doses of 0.25 and 1.0 ml. Using field cages, we conducted mating trials in which ginger root oil-exposed (treated) or nonexposed (control) sterile males competed against wild-like males for copulations with wild-like females. After adult exposure, treated males had significantly higher mating success than control males for all doses of ginger root oil, except 2.0 ml. After pupal-adult exposure, treated males had a significantly higher mating success than control males for the 1.0-ml but not the 0.25-ml dose of ginger root oil. The results suggest that ginger root oil can be used in conjunction with prerelease, storage boxes to increase the effectiveness of sterile insect release programs.  相似文献

Leonotis leonurus widely used by traditional healers in southern Africa for treatment of various ailments, is well known for its reported psychoactive properties. The present study was undertaken to investigate the variation in essential oil composition between geographically distinct populations of L. leonurus in South Africa using gas chromatography. Plant material (n = 50) was collected from three provinces of South Africa. Essential oils of the aerial parts were obtained by hydrodistillation and analysed using one and two dimensional gas chromatography. Twenty-six compounds accounted for more than 80% of the total composition of the oil. Eight major constituents in the oil, representing about 50% of the total oil composition, were identified by both GC–MS–FID and GCxGC–ToF–MS. These major compounds were trans-β-ocimene (0.1–5.0%), cis-β-ocimene (0.1–31.5%), β-caryophyllene (0.3–15.0%), caryophyllene oxide (0.1–5.0%), α-humulene (0.4–18.2%), γ-elemene (0.4–10.6%), α-cubebene (0.2–12.0%) and germacrene D (0.1–22.1%). Marked similarities exist in the essential oil composition between populations; differences are mostly quantitative when determined by GC–MS–FID, while GCxGC–ToF–MS data reveals both quantitative and qualitative differences.Untargeted multivariate analysis was performed using SIMCA-P + 14.0 PCA and OPLS-DA methods, identifying two distinct clusters, inland and coastal populations.  相似文献

The vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides (L.) Roberty) essential oil is obtained from its roots by hydro- or steam distillation. Its oil is used in cosmetics, perfumery and food industries, deodorants, soaps, cold drinks, and toilet articles. The present investigations' objective was to estimate essential oil yielding stability and the identification of environment-specific vetiver genotypes. Testing of genotypes under different years was done using additive main effect and multiplicative interaction model, genotype main effect with the genotype-by-environment interaction, and biplot statistical models for the stability of the essential oil yield. The results from both models showed that the best stable genotypes for the high essential oil were G 10, G 12, G 14, and G 15, respectively. The essential oil of the genotypes, G 10, G 14, and G 15 were rich for khusimol, Khusol, khusimone and khusian-2-ol in G 10; khusilal, α-cedrenal, α-cedrenol, khusol, khusitone in G 14, and khusilal, khusimol, α-cedrenal, α-cedrenol,khusol, khusitone in G 15 along with minor compounds having diverse aromatic characters. The two new compounds, namely, α-cedrenal and α-cedrenol were identified first in the Indian vetiver, while the line G 12 possessed khusilal and khusol as the major compounds. Therefore, these genotypes of vetiver are recommended for commercial exploitation.  相似文献

Juniperus oxycedrus L. (Cupressaceae Bartlett) is widely distributed in countries with a Mediterranean climate. All plant parts contain highly aromatic essential oil (EO) and recently there have been efforts to introduce it as a cultivated crop. The species is known for its large morphological and chemical variation and its debatable taxonomic status. This study aimed to (1) compare content, composition, and antimicrobial activity of J. oxycedrus EO samples from plants growing in Bulgaria and Serbia, and (2) quantify morphological variations of leaves. Тhe EO content (yield) in dried juniper leaves varied from 0.06% (Кopaonik, Serbia) to 0.24% (Markovo, Bulgaria). We identified 51 EO constituents, belonging to monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, and diterpenes. The class monoterpenes (monoterpene hydrocarbons and oxygenated monoterpenes) were the predominant compounds, representing 38.6–65.4% of the total EO, consisting primarily of α-pinene, limonene, sabinene, β-pinene, and β-myrcene. In addition, α-pinene was the major oil constituent in plants from all locations. Sesquiterpenes (sesquiterpene hydrocarbons and oxygenated sesquiterpenes) were the second largest class of constituents, which represented 19.3% tо 33.6% of the total EO. γ-Elemene was found only in the EO of J. oxycedrus from Bulgaria, while a high concentration of α-curcumene was found only in samples from Serbia (7.5–7.8%). Significant differences in antimicrobial activity of the EO were found in bacterial strains Bacillus cereus and Streptococcus pneumoniae. There was no significant difference among the mean leaf width of the six combinations location x sex, and the overall leaf mean width was 1.24 mm. However, there was a significant difference between the mean leaf lengths. In this study, none of the studied populations had a higher concentration of limonene than of α-pinene, indicating that the flora of the two countries include J. oxycedrus and not the previously reported J. deltoides. The results revealed significant variation in EO profile that may contribute to the development of new cultivars of J. oxycedrus.  相似文献

Callus cultures of Pinus radiata that synthesized monoterpenes de novo and which were stable for at least 1 year have been established. The products differed from those of parent plants in that α-pinene (87–100%) rather than β-pinene was the main component. The best lines accumulated monoterpenes (ca 2 × 10?3% wt/wet wt)in yields 40–20% of that in the parent stem and needles. The composition of the extractable oil depended on the light regime. After culture in total darkness toluene and acetone accumulated. These compounds also occurred (at low levels) in dark-grown seedlings and in seeds of P. radiata and a route for their formation from α-pinene is suggested. Cell-free extracts of the culture lines converted [14C] IPP into geraniol, nerol and α- and β-pinenes in up to 46% total yield. These are the most active crude extracts for monoterpene biosynthesis that have been reported from either tissue cultures or higher plants.  相似文献

Trees from the genus Boswellia (Burseraceae) are traditionally used as a medicine, a fumigant, in various cosmetic formulations and in aromatherapy in several countries around the world. This plant produces a commercial oil known as frankincense which has a woody, spicy and haunting smell. Frankincense oil has several pharmacological properties, of which many elude to the anti-infective potential. Variation in the chemical composition of this oil has been reported in literature. These factors prompted an investigation to study the commercial frankincense oils from various international suppliers. Twenty essential oils were analyzed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. Considering the major constituents, the oils were found to be qualitatively similar. However, there was immense quantitative variation for certain oil constituents. The components identified and their range in the oils include α-pinene (2.0–64.7%); α-thujene (0.3–52.4%); β-pinene (0.3–13.1%); myrcene (1.1–22.4%); sabinene (0.5–7.0%); limonene (1.3–20.4%); p-cymene (2.7–16.9%) and β-caryophyllene (0.1–10.5%). The antimicrobial activity (minimum inhibition concentration assay) of the oils was investigated against five reference test organisms and the activity ranged from 4–16 mg/ml (Staphylococcus aureus); 1.5–8.3 mg/ml (Bacillus cereus); 4.0–12.0 mg/ml (Escherichia coli); 2.0–12.8 mg/ml (Proteus vulgaris) and 5.3–12.0 mg/ml (Candida albicans).  相似文献

The essential oils and phenolic constituents from the aerial parts of Hypericum triquetrifolium Turra, were analyzed at three developmental stages (vegetative, flowering and fruiting stages). The highest content of oil (0.12% w/w) was obtained at full flowering. Whatever the analyzed stage, n-octane, α-pinene, β-caryophyllene, 2-methyloctane, n-nonane, α-longipinene, caryophyllene oxide and β-pinene were found to be the main compounds. However, their percentages varied with the phenological cycle. Analysis by RP-HPLC-DAD of the methanolic extracts enabled us to identify 14 phenolic components and rutin, hyperoside, quercitrin and quercetin were reported as the main components. With the exception of chlorogenic acid, kaempferol and amentoflavone, the content of the remaining identified phenolic components varied with the phonological cycle.  相似文献
