Biochemical study of erythroid hematopoietic reserves during prolonged irradiation

A study was made of the effect of hydrochloride phenylhydrazine on the content and rate of biosynthesis of nucleic acids in the bone marrow and spleen of rats exposed to long-term fractionated gamma-irradiation (0.5 Gy, 6 times a week). The stimulatory effect of phenylhydrazine on the rate of the nucleic acid biosynthesis was shown to decrease in the tissues under study with dose cumulation from 2.5 to 25 Gy.     

Excretion of cyclic nucleotides during prolonged gamma irradiation of rats

Excretion of cGMP in urine was significantly increased and cAMP/cGMP ratio decreased in rats subjected to long-term repeated gamma irradiation with cumulative doses of 15 to 20 Gy.     

Effects of microwave irradiation on triglyceride transesterification: Experimental and theoretical studies

An improved reaction rate of biodiesel fuel formation was observed under microwave irradiation. Such irradiation is effective for not only heating during the reaction but also preheating. The advantages observed in this study suggest that a continuous process, that is, the introduction of reactant preheated by microwave irradiation into reactor will be feasible. The reasons for the improved reaction rate are explained through the use of optimized structures, dipole moments, IR spectra and activation energies obtained using molecular orbital calculations. Planar triolein formed by microwave irradiation has higher reactivity, a lower dipole moment, a lower activation energy and stronger vibration around the carboxyl carbon, and is more reactive than triolein with a higher dipole moment.     

A theoretical study of population dynamics in the sheep tick

An analytical model describing incidence of mating in Ixodes ricinus (L.) is constructed and incorporated in a simple population model which predicts proportional growth rates of Ixodes populations as a function of host and parasite densities. The sensitivity of the population model to changes in parameter values is examined, and it is shown that there exists an optimum host population size for each of the Ixodes population sizes chosen. The significance of the results is discussed with respect to the spatial distribution of sheep tick populations.     

The state of the erythrocyte antioxidant system during gamma irradiation following prior prolonged overheating]

A study was made of the influence of preliminary long-term heating on the state of the antioxidant system of erythrocytes after gamma-irradiation. The activity of antioxidant protection enzymes (catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase) in erythrocytes varied in different directions depending on the preliminary long-term overheating schedule and perhaps on the structure and intracellular localization of the enzyme.     

Experimental study of the radioprotective action of melanin on the somatic development during irradiation in the antenatal period of ontogenesis

Daily introduction per os of the exogenous melanin in a doze of weight of 10 mg/kg pregnant female rats Wistar eliminated the functional deficiency of somatic development revealed at posterity at chronic gamma-irradiation in a doze 1.00-1.25 Gy for all period of pregnancy. The irradiation or introduction melanin antenatal to a phase ontogenesis resulted in stimulation of the immune answer, which was determined at offspring on 3rd week after birth. On the basis of the received data it is concluded presence radioembryoprotective actions melanin in the relation embryotoxic effects of small dozes of ionizing radiation and its participation in regulation immunogenes.
