AIMS: The partial characterization of bacteriocins produced by an environmental strain Enterococcus faecium EK13, isolated from cattle dung water. METHODS AND RESULTS: A bacteriocin was partially purified by ammonium sulphate precipitation, followed by a SP-Sepharose column, reverse-phase chromatography and N-terminal region sequenced. The anti-microbial substance produced was found to be a heat-stable polypeptide with molecular mass 4.83 kDa, which was determined by N-terminal amino acid sequencing to be enterocin A. A second substance was specified by PCR as enterocin P. Bacteriocins were stable at 4 and -20 degrees C for long storage periods. The optimum of bacteriocin production was observed in the range of pH 5.0-6.5 at 30 and 37 degrees C. The most active substances are produced by strain EK13 in logarithmic growth phase and bacteriocins are produced after 1 h of fermentation. The highest activity detected in fermentation experiments was 51 200 AU ml(-1) and the most sensitive indicator strain was found to be Listeria innocua LMG 13568. Differences in bacteriocin activity against two indicators could be explained by more than one type of enterocin production by strain EK13, or with different mode of action or in different sensitivity of strains. CONCLUSION: Enterococcus faecium strain EK13 isolated from cattle dung water produces two bacteriocins, enterocin A and P, with an inhibitory effect against the strain of the genera Enterococcus, Leuconostoc, Lactobacillus, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Bacillus and Listeria (in different origin). SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Enterococcus faecium EK13 environmental strain is a new producer of enterocin A and P. The E. faecium EK13, isolated from cattle dung water, is presented with the further aim to utilize it for waste treatment by biotechnological processes.  相似文献

Enterococcus faecium T8, isolated from vaginal secretions of children with human immunodeficiency virus, produces a class IIa sec-dependent bacteriocin that is structurally different from three other class IIa sec-dependent bacteriocins, i.e., enterocin P and an enterocin P-like bacteriocin, produced by Enterococcus faecium, and bacteriocin 31, produced by Enterococcus faecalis, and from a class III bacteriocin produced by E. faecalis. The genes encoding the bacteriocin, immunity protein, mobilization protein, and relaxase nuclease are located on a 7-kb plasmid. Bacteriocin T8 has a molecular mass of 5.1 kDa based on its DNA sequence, similar to the 5.0 kDa recorded for bacteriocin 31 but larger than the 4.6 kDa reported for enterocin P. At the amino acid level, bacteriocin T8 is 69% homologous to bacteriocin 31 and 47% homologous to enterocin P. Bacteriocin T8 is active against E. faecalis isolated from patients diagnosed with vaginosis, against Lactobacillus sakei, and against a Propionibacterium sp. The peptide is heat stable (60 min at 100 degrees C) and remains active in phosphate buffer from pH 4.0 to 10.0. The mode of activity is bactericidal, as determined with E. faecalis.  相似文献

In vitro inhibition of Helicobacter pylori by Enterococcus faecium GM-1   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A strain of Enterococcus faecium that exhibits antibacterial activity against Helicobacter pylori was isolated from the feces of newborn babies. This strain was selected for its ability to inhibit the growth of H. pylori and to withstand harsh environmental conditions, such as acidic pH and high bile concentration. Biochemical tests and 16S rRNA sequencing specific for Enterococcus faecium GM-1 were used to identify the isolated bacterial strain. In vitro studies were used to investigate the inhibitory effects of E. faecium GM-1 on H. pylori. These results showed that the culture supernatant of E. faecium GM-1 significantly decreased the viability and urease activity of H. pylori. This inhibitory activity remained after adjustment of pH of culture supernatant to neutral. However, treatment with proteolytic enzymes reduced the anti-H. pylori activity of GM-1. Therefore, some substance(s) of E. faecium GM-1 other than pH and lactic acid might be associated with this inhibitory activity. Analysis by electron microscopy also demonstrated that the addition of GM-1 destroyed the cell structure of H. pylori. Additional studies suggested that the binding of H. pylori to human colonial cells decreased in the presence of GM-1.  相似文献

AIMS: Isolation of bacteriocinogenic lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from the Malaysian mould-fermented product tempeh and characterization of the produced bacteriocin(s). METHODS AND RESULTS: LAB were present in high numbers in final products as well as during processing. Isolates, Enterococcus faecium B1 and E. faecium B2 (E. faecium LMG 19827 and E. faecium LMG 19828, respectively) inhibited Gram-positive indicators, including Listeria monocytogenes. Partially purified bacteriocins showed a proteinaceous nature. Activity was stable after heat-treatment except at alkaline pH values. Both strains displayed a bacteriostatic mode of action. Bacteriocin production was associated with late exponential/early stationary growth. Molecular mass, calculated by SDS-PAGE, was 3.4 kDa for B1 bacteriocin, and 3.4 kDa and 5.8 kDa for B2 bacteriocins. PCR screening of enterocin-coding genes revealed three amplified fragments in total genomic DNA that may correspond with PCR signals for enterocin P, enterocin L50A and enterocin L50B. Both B1 and B2 contained a 42-kb plasmid. No differences in bacteriocinogenic capacity were found between wild type strains and plasmid-cured strains. CONCLUSIONS: It was possible to isolate bacteriocinogenic E. faecium active against various Gram-positive bacteria from final products of tempeh. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: A first step in applying biopreservation to fermented South-east Asian foods is to obtain bacteriocinogenic LAB from this source. Such isolates may also be used for biopreservation of mould-fermented foods in general, including various types of mould-ripened cheese.  相似文献

Enterocin P is a pediocin-like, broad-spectrum bacteriocin which displays a strong inhibitory activity against Listeria monocytogenes. The bacteriocin was purified from the culture supernatant of Enterococcus faecium P13, and its molecular mechanism of action against the sensitive strain E. faecium T136 was evaluated. Although enterocin P caused significant reduction of the membrane potential (DeltaPsi) and the intracellular ATP pool of the indicator organism, the pH gradient (DeltapH) component of the proton motive force (Deltap) was not dissipated. By contrast, enterocin P caused carboxyfluorescein efflux from E. faecium T136-derived liposomes.  相似文献

AIMS: To screen bacteriocin-producing lactic acid bacteria (LAB) in 52 type and reference strains, which have not previously been studied, with respect to bacteriocins, and to characterize the presence of bacteriocins. METHODS AND RESULTS: Only Enterococcus faecium JCM 5804T showed bacteriocin-like activity. It inhibited the growth of Lactobacillus spp., Enterococcus spp., Clostridium spp., Listeria monocytogenes, and vancomycin resistant Enterococcus (VRE). However, it was not effective against Gram-negative strains, Weisella spp., Leuconostoc spp., Lactococcus spp., or methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The inhibitory activity of Ent. faecium JCM 5804T was inactivated by proteinase K, trypsin, alpha-chymotrypsin, and papain, but not by lysozyme, lipase, catalase, or beta-glucosidase. The inhibitory activity was stable at 100 degrees C for 30 min, and had a pH range from 2 to 10. The molecular weight of the partially purified bacteriocin(s) was approx. 4.5 kDa, according to tricine-sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Polymerase chain reaction and direct sequencing methods identified three different types of bacteriocins produced by Ent. faecium JCM 5804T, enterocin A, enterocin B, and enterocin P-like bacteriocin. CONCLUSION: Enterococcus faecium JCM 5804T produced three different types of bacteriocins, and they inhibited LAB and pathogens. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF STUDY: This is the first report of enterocin A, enterocin B, and enterocin P-like bacteriocin, detected in Ent. faecium JCM 5804T among LAB type and reference strains.  相似文献

Enterococcus faecium FH 99 was isolated from human faeces and selected because of its broad spectrum of inhibitory activity against several Gram-positive foodborne spoilage and pathogenic bacteria. Ent. faecium FH 99 accumulates enterocin in large number in early stationary phase of the growth. The enterocin FH 99 was stable over a wide pH range (2–10) and recovered activity even after treatment at high temperatures (10 min at 100°C). The enterocin was subjected to different purification techniques viz., gel filteration, cation exchange chromatography and reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. The activity was eluted as one individual active fraction. SDSPAGE revealed a molecular weight of less than 6.5 kDa. Studies carried out to identify the genetic determinants for bacteriocin production showed that this trait may be plasmid encoded as loss in both of the plasmids (size>chromosomal DNA) led to loss in bacteriocin production by Ent. faecium FH 99. Ent. faecium strain FH 99 is a newly discovered high bacteriocin producer with Activity Units 1.8 × 105 AU ml−1 and its characteristics indicate that it may have strong potential for application as a protective agent against pathogens and spoilage bacteria in foods.  相似文献

In recent years, the approach of using innovative strategies such as probiotics or bacteriocins for the prevention or treatment of bacterial infections has come into focus. The present study was undertaken to check in vitro ability of Enterococci-isolated from the gastrointestinal tract of chickens-to produce a bacteriocin-like substance and to describe some further probiotic properties in five selected Enterococcus faecium strains. All strains (n=17) were found to produce bacteriocin-like substances against 14 out of 20 indicator bacteria of animal, food or environmental origin. Selected E. faecium strains expressed sufficient survival by pH 3.0 after 3h, in the presence of 1% bile after 24h and they were sensitive to most of antimicrobials tested. All tested strains adhere to the human, canine and porcine intestinal mucus (between 1.5% and 9.2%). However, better adhesion ability was observed for the canine mucus. PCR detection of enterocin structural genes determined presence of enterocins A and P genes in all selected strains. Characterization of bacteriocin substance in detail was performed in E. faecium EF55. The EF55 strain produced a bacteriocin-like substance (during the late logarithmic and early stationary growth phase) with inhibitory activity mostly against Gram-positive bacteria (100-51,200 AU/mL) including Listeria monocytogenes. Proteinaceous character of the bacteriocin substance was confirmed (its inhibitory activity was lost after its treatment with proteases), it was found to be stable after heating (100 degrees C 10 min) and during 12 months storage at -20 degrees C. The highest inhibitory activity of bacteriocin produced by EF55 strain (growing in MRS) broth was achieved between pH 7.0 and 9.0.  相似文献

AIMS: Characterization of Ent F-58 produced by Enterococcus faecium strain F58 isolated from Jben, a soft, farmhouse goat's cheese manufactured without starter cultures. METHODS AND RESULTS: E. faecium strain F58 was isolated because of its broad inhibitory spectrum, including activity against food-borne pathogenic and spoilage bacteria. The antimicrobial substance was produced during the growth phase, with maximum production after 16-20 h of incubation at 30 degrees C, and was stable over a wide pH range (4-8) and at high temperatures (5 min at 100 degrees C). The enterocin was purified to homogeneity using cation exchange and hydrophobic interaction on C-18 and reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. The activity was eluted as two individual active fractions (F-58A and F-58B) and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry analysis showed masses of 5210.5 and 5234.3 Da respectively. Both peptides were partially sequenced by Edman degradation, and amino-acid sequencing revealed high similarity with enterocin L50 (I). PCR-amplified fragments containing the structural genes for F-58 A and B were located in a 22-kb plasmid harboured by this strain. We verified that it also holds the structural gene for P-like enterocin. CONCLUSION: E. faecium strain F58 from Jben cheese, a producer of enterocin L50, exerts an inhibitory effect against strains of genera such as Listeria, Staphylococcus, Clostridium, Brochothrix and Bacillus. Enterocin was characterized according to its functional and biological properties, purification to homogeneity and an analysis of its amino acid and genetic sequences. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: E. faecium strain F58 is a newly discovered producer of enterocin L50, the biotechnological characteristics of which indicate its potential for application as a protective agent against pathogens and spoilage bacteria in foods.  相似文献

A bacteriocin producer strain MC13 was isolated from the gut of Mugil cephalus (grey mullet) and identified as Enterococcus faecium. The bacteriocin of E. faecium MC13 was purified to homogeneity, as confirmed by Tricine sodium dodecyl sulphate - polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis showed a single active fraction eluted at 26 min, and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry analysis showed the molecular mass to be 2.148 kDa. The clear zone in native PAGE corresponding to enterocin MC13 band further substantiated its molecular mass. A dialyzed sample (semicrude preparation) of enterocin MC13 was broad spectrum in its action and inhibited important seafood-borne pathogens: Listeria monocytogenes , Vibrio parahaemolyticus, and Vibrio vulnificus. This antibacterial substance was sensitive to proteolytic enzymes: trypsin, protease, and chymotrypsin but insensitive to catalase and lipase, confirming that inhibition was due to the proteinaceous molecule, i.e., bacteriocin, and not due to hydrogen peroxide. Enterocin MC13 tolerated heat treatment (up to 90 °C for 20 min). Enterococcus faecium MC13 was effective in bile salt tolerance, acid tolerance, and adhesion to the HT-29 cell line. These properties reveal the potential of E. faecium MC13 to be a probiotic bacterium. Enterococcus faecium MC13 could be used as potential fish probiotic against pathogens such as V. parahaemolyticus, Vibrio harveyi, and Aeromonas hydrophila in fisheries. Also, this could be a valuable seafood biopreservative against L. monocytogenes.  相似文献

Among a thousand of bacteria isolated from forty-three samples, ten isolated bacteria strain WARY1-6, WARY9-1, WARY9-2, WARY6-6, SOPB1, WARY9-10, WARY7-4, WASM9-25, SOPB8-91 and WAS14 with antimicrobial activity against methicillin resistantStaphylococcus aureus (MRSA) were selected for further study. The activity of crude active supernatant (CAS) from these isolated bacteria was completely lost after treated with pronase E, chymotrypsin and trypsin demonstrating its proteinaceous nature. These isolated bacteria could be regarded as bacteriocin producing bacteria (BAC). It was also found that CAS from five Gram-positive isolated bacteria strain WARY1-6, WARY9-1, WARY9-2, WARY6-6 and WASM9-25 showed a broad range of inhibition as they can inhibit at least five Gram-positive and two Gram-negative test microorganisms. Two Gram-negative bacteria can be regarded as BAC with a broad range against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative test bacteria. These seven isolated bacteria can be regarded as BAC with a broad range of antagonistic activity. One isolated bacteria strain SOPB1 harboured a single large plasmid name pSOPB1-19. Its bacteriocin production was associated with plasmid as analysed by plasmid extraction and curing experiment. The strain SOPB1 was identified asBacillus sphaericus according to its 16s rRNA gene sequence. Its bacteriocin was heat stable up to 121 °C, 15 min and active within the pH range of 6–9.  相似文献

Food borne diseases have a major impact on public health whose epidemiology is rapidly changing. The whole cells of pathogens involved or their toxins/metabolites affect the human health apart from spoiling sensory properties of the food products finally affecting the food industry as well as consumer health. With pathogens developing mechanisms of antibiotic resistance, there has been an increased need to replace antibiotics as well as chemical additives with naturally occurring bacteriocins. Bacteriocins are known to act mainly against Gram-positive pathogens and with little or no effect towards Gram-negative enteric bacteria. In the present study, combination effect of lipase and bacteriocin produced by Enterococcus faecium NCIM5363, a highly lipolytic lactic acid bacterium against various food pathogens was assessed. The lipase in combination with enterocin exhibited a lethal effect against Gram-negative pathogens. Scanning electron microscopy studies carried out to ascertain the constitutive mode of action of lipase and enterocin revealed that the lipase degrades the cell wall of Gram-negative bacteria and creates a pore through which enterocin enters thereby resulting in cell death. The novelty of this work is the fact that this is the first report revealing the synergistic effect of lipase with enterocin against Gram-negative bacteria.  相似文献

Enterococcus sp. K-4, with a bacteriocin-like activity against E. faecium, was isolated from grass silage in Thailand. Morphological, physiological, and phylogenetic studies clearly identified strain K-4 as a strain of E. faecalis. Strain K-4 produced a maximal amount of bacteriocin at 43-45 degrees C. We purified, for the first time, the bacteriocin produced at high temperature by E. faecalis to homogeneity, using adsorption on cells of the producer strain and reversed-phase liquid chromatography. The bacteriocin, designated enterocin SE-K4, is a peptide of about 5 kDa as measured by SDS-PAGE, and Mass spectrometry analysis found the molecular mass of 5356.2, which is in good agreement. The amino acid sequencing of the N-terminal end of enterocin SE-K4 showed apparent sequence similarity to class IIa bacteriocins. Enterocin SE-K4 was active against E. faecium, E. faecalis, Bacillus subtilis, Clostridium beijerinckii, and Listeria monocytogenes. Enterocin SE-K4 is very heat stable.  相似文献

Enterococcus faecium L50 grown at 16 to 32 degrees C produces enterocin L50 (EntL50), consisting of EntL50A and EntL50B, two unmodified non-pediocin-like peptides synthesized without an N-terminal leader sequence or signal peptide. However, the bacteriocin activity found in the cell-free culture supernatants following growth at higher temperatures (37 to 47 degrees C) is not due to EntL50. A purification procedure including cation-exchange, hydrophobic interaction, and reverse-phase liquid chromatography has shown that the antimicrobial activity is due to two different bacteriocins. Amino acid sequences obtained by Edman degradation and DNA sequencing analyses revealed that one is identical to the sec-dependent pediocin-like enterocin P produced by E. faecium P13 (L. M. Cintas, P. Casaus, L. S. Havarstein, P. E. Hernández, and I. F. Nes, Appl. Environ. Microbiol. 63:4321-4330, 1997) and the other is a novel unmodified non-pediocin-like bacteriocin termed enterocin Q (EntQ), with a molecular mass of 3,980. DNA sequencing analysis of a 963-bp region of E. faecium L50 containing the enterocin P structural gene (entP) and the putative immunity protein gene (entiP) reveals a genetic organization identical to that previously found in E. faecium P13. DNA sequencing analysis of a 1,448-bp region identified two consecutive but diverging open reading frames (ORFs) of which one, termed entQ, encodes a 34-amino-acid protein whose deduced amino acid sequence was identical to that obtained for EntQ by amino acid sequencing, showing that EntQ, similarly to EntL50A and EntL50B, is synthesized without an N-terminal leader sequence or signal peptide. The second ORF, termed orf2, was located immediately upstream of and in opposite orientation to entQ and encodes a putative immunity protein composed of 221 amino acids. Bacteriocin production by E. faecium L50 showed that EntP and EntQ are produced in the temperature range from 16 to 47 degrees C and maximally detected at 47 and 37 to 47 degrees C, respectively, while EntL50A and EntL50B are maximally synthesized at 16 to 25 degrees C and are not detected at 37 degrees C or above.  相似文献

The influence of pH on growth, enterocin P production and glucose consumption by Enterococcus faecium P13 was studied during anaerobic batch fermentation in MRS broth at 32 degrees C in a fermentor. Growth and glucose consumption were maximal at pH 7.0. Enterocin P production displayed primary metabolite kinetics and was strongly dependent on pH. A maximum antimicrobial activity of 1,949 bacteriocin units (BU) ml(-1) was obtained at pH 6.0, which represented a four-fold increase compared with the antimicrobial activity obtained without pH regulation. The pH exerted a marked effect on the decrease in bacteriocin activity, with the decrease being maximal at pH 7.0. In this report, we propose models for the growth of E. faecium P13 as well as enterocin P production and inactivation. Enterocin P production decreased when potentially stress-inducing compounds (NaCl or ethanol) were included in the growth medium.  相似文献

Streptococcus faecium 158 cells were examined by electron microscopy at sequential intervals after addition of enterocin E1A, a bacteriocin produced by Streptococcus faecium E1. After addition of enterocin E1A, the nuclear material began to concentrate into distinct areas at the center of the bacteria. In a later stage, extensive condensation of the nuclear filaments left a small cluster of dense granules within a cytoplasmic vacuole, and 10-20% of the cells underwent a complete lysis.  相似文献

Two hybrid bacteriocins, enterocin E50-52/pediocin PA-1 (EP) and pediocin PA-1/enterocin E50-52 (PE), were designed by combining the N terminus of enterocin E50-52 and the C terminus of pediocin PA-1 and by combining the C terminus of pediocin PA-1 and the N terminus of enterocin E50-52, respectively. Both hybrid bacteriocins showed reduced MICs compared to those of their natural counterparts. The MICs of hybrid PE and EP were 64- and 32-fold lower, respectively, than the MIC of pediocin PA-1 and 8- and 4-fold lower, respectively, than the MIC of enterocin E50-52. In this study, the effect of hybrid as well as wild-type (WT) bacteriocins on the transmembrane electrical potential (ΔΨ) and their ability to induce the efflux of intracellular ATP were investigated. Enterocin E50-52, pediocin PA-1, and hybrid bacteriocin PE were able to dissipate ΔΨ, but EP was unable to deplete this component. Both hybrid bacteriocins caused a loss of the intracellular concentration of ATP. EP, however, caused a faster efflux than PE and enterocin E50-52. Enterocin E50-52 and hybrids PE and EP were active against the Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria tested, such as Micrococcus luteus, Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis 20E1090, and Escherichia coli O157:H7. The hybrid bacteriocins designed and described herein are antimicrobial peptides with MICs lower those of their natural counterparts. Both hybrid peptides induce the loss of intracellular ATP and are capable of inhibiting Gram-negative bacteria, and PE dissipates the electrical potential. In this study, the MIC of hybrid bacteriocin PE decreased 64-fold compared to the MIC of its natural peptide counterpart, pediocin PA-1. Inhibition of Gram-negative pathogens confers an additional advantage for the application of these peptides in therapeutics.  相似文献

An Enterococcus faecium strain from Nigerian fermented skimmed cow milk ('wara') produced bacteriocin inhibitory towards Lactobacillus, Enterococcus and Listeria strains. The bacteriocin (designated enterocin 01) was inactivated by proteases, heat-stable at 100°C and active at pH 2.0–6.0. The Ent. faecium isolate harboured plasmids of ca 36.3 and 23.1 kb. Curing experiments with ethidium bromide resulted in a bacteriocin-negative mutant which had not lost immunity to the bacteriocin. Slight differences in plasmid profiles between wild-type and mutant indicated a possible plasmid-coded bacteriocin production.  相似文献

Bacteriocin-like activity (BLA) was screened in 690 strains of lactic acid bacteria isolated from plant materials such as silages and fermented vegetables. Among them, a strain identified as Enterococcus faecium NIAI 157 showed a clear BLA against the indicator strain, Ent. faecium IFO 13712. The proteinaceous nature and antimicrobial activity against closely related species strongly indicated that this BLA was a bacteriocin and was designated enterocin ON-157. The bacteriocin activity of this strain was extracellularly produced in the logarithmic growth phase in MRS broth and purified by ultrafiltration, ammonium sulphate precipitation and cation-exchange chromatography. Purified enterocin ON-157 had a molecular weight of approximately 2500 Da in SDS-PAGE analysis and was easily inhibited by treatment with alpha-amylase and proteolytic enzymes. Enterocin ON-157 had a bactericidal mode of action and inhibited the growth of the enterococci, Lactobacillus sake and Listeria monocytogenes. Enterococcus faecium NIAI 157 harboured two plasmids, 49.0 kb and 43.7 kb, and a variant missing a larger plasmid by curing with novobiocin lost the bactriocin activity.  相似文献

AIMS: To assess the inhibitory activity on Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria of several species of enterococci recovered from a natural corn silage. METHODS AND RESULTS: The inhibitory activity of strains of Enterococcus faecalis (58), Enterococcus faecium (35), Enterococcus gallinarum (3) and Enterococcus casseliflavus (4) were studied employing indicator strains from various sources (clinical, food and ATCC). Enterococcus faecalis MR99, the only strain with inhibitory activity, inhibited other enterococci, Listeria spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium spp., Bacillus spp., Escherichia coli, Shigella sonnei and Shigella flexneri. The bacterium contained only one conjugative pheromone-responsive plasmid. The partially chromatography-purified MR99 enterocin (PPE) had a molecular weight of approx. 5000 Da and a pI of 6.2, was sensitive to proteolytic enzymes and could be extracted in benzene and butanol. It appeared stable to adjustment of pH 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0 and was resistant to heat. Inactivation was at 15 min at 121 degrees C. Enterocin MR99 was bactericidal on strains of Listeria monocytogenes, Staph. aureus, and bovine mastitis agents, it was bacteriostatic on E. coli. Although enterocins MR99 and AS48 have inhibitory activity on Gram-negative bacilli, PCR studies demonstrated a lack of relationship between them. CONCLUSIONS: The active component had a protein nature, was resistant to heat and presented a wide inhibitory spectrum. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The biological properties of Ent. faecalis MR99 suggest that this strain merits further investigations so it can be applied in human and veterinary health programmes.  相似文献
