The aim of this study was to assess the bioavailability of selenium (Se) in Se-enriched yeast and the possible impact of age, sex and area of residence on the Se concentration in plasma in 179 transplant recipients, as Se clinical effects in the prevention of cutaneous epithelial lesions in organ transplant recipients has been reported elsewhere. Subjects were randomized to receive either 200 μg Se/day (group 1:91 patients) or placebo (group 2: 88 patients) for 3 years. Plasma Se levels were measured at the beginning of the study and after 4, 12, 24 and 36 months of Se or placebo supplementation. Initial plasma Se levels were 90.9±26.1 μg/L for placebo and 94.0±25.3 μg/L for Se-supplemented groups. At baseline, the Se level was not linked to sex and age but to area of residence, although the number of subjects in each area was insufficient to draw any conclusions. Plasma Se levels were statistically lower in cases of liver transplant compared to kidney and heart transplant (p=0.03). Over the 3-year period of supplementation, plasma Se in the supplemented subjects was significantly higher than in the placebo group (p<0.01) and there was an interaction (p<0.01) between supplementation and time for plasma Se. Supplementation with Se-enriched yeast significantly increased the Se concentration in plasma of the patients to a plateau: the mean plasma Se of the Se-supplemented patients increased to 164.7±35.8 μg/L at 4 months and then remained similar at 12 (176.1±48.3 μg/L), 24 (176.1±54.2 μg/L) and 36 (182.2±46.4 μg/L) months.  相似文献

BackgroundSelenium is important for human health and involved in various metabolic processes. Deficiency of selenium associates with increased risk for cancer and cardiovascular diseases. There has been an increase use of selenium supplements for the treatment of autoimmune thyroid conditions. However, the potential biological effects of selenium overload arouse the public concern. The aim of this study was to investigate the associations of plasma selenium concentrations of adults with metabolic syndrome (MS) in Chinese population.MethodsA matched case-control study including 204 metabolic syndrome patients and 204 healthy controls was conducted in 2012. The MS cases were defined according to the criteria of Chinese Diabetes Society (CDS). Healthy controls without abnormality of metabolic components were matched with cases in age, gender and region. Plasma concentrations of selenium were determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS). Fasting plasma glucose (FPG), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) were detected by automatic biochemical analyzer.ResultsThe median levels of plasma selenium in MS group were 146.3 (107.3–199.4) μg/L, which were significantly higher than that in the control group (127.4: 95.7–176.0) μg/L; Plasma levels of selenium were related to the risk of MS in dose-response manner. Risk of MS was significantly higher in subjects with plasma selenium in the highest tertile (T3: ≥176.0 μg/L) compared to those in the lowest tertile (T1: <95.7 μg/L) [odds ratio (OR) = 2.416 (95% CI: 1.289–4.526)]. The plasma levels of selenium were positively correlated with fasting plasma glucose (FPG) (rs = 0.268, P < 0.001). Plasma selenium at the median (T2: 95.7–176.0 μg/L) or upper tertile (T3: ≥176.0 μg/L) was associated with increased risk of elevated FPG (defined by FPG  6.1 mmol/L) as compared with the lowest tertile (T1: ≤95.7 μg/L) [T2 vs. T1, OR = 3.487 (1.738–6.996); T3 vs. T1, OR = 6.245 (3.005–12.981)].ConclusionsHigher levels of plasma selenium might increase the risk of metabolic syndrome and elevated fasting plasma glucose. Selenium supplements should be used with prudence for CVD and cancer prevention.  相似文献

IntroductionTrace elements may play an important role in bipolar disorders. The objective of this study is to determine serum copper and zinc, blood lead and cadmium and urine lead, cadmium and thallium concentrations in patients diagnosed with bipolar disorders and to compare these levels with those of a healthy control group.Materials and methodsA total of 25 patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder and 29 healthy subjects participated in this study. Serum copper and zinc concentrations were measured using flame atomic absorption spectrometry; the blood lead and cadmium concentrations were measured by electrothermal atomization atomic absorption spectrometry with Zeeman background correction; urine lead, cadmium and thallium concentrations were measured by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.ResultsMedian blood and urine lead and cadmium levels were significantly higher among the bipolar patients than among the control group: Blood lead (μg/dL): patient median: 3.00 (IQR: 1.40–4.20); control median (μg/dL): 2.20 (IQR: 0.90–3.00) p = 0.040. Blood cadmium (μg/L): patient median: 0.39 (IQR: 0.10–1.15); control median: 0.10 (IQR: 0.10–0.17) p < 0.001. The median of cadmium (μg/L) in patients who smoked (1.20 IQR: 0.44–2.30) was higher than that in non-smokers (0.12 IQR: 0.10–0.34) p < 0.001. There was a statistically significant increase (p = 0.001) in zinc levels among patients in the manic phase (mean 111.28, SD: 33.36 μg/dL) with respect to the control group (mean 86.07, SD: 12.39 μg/dL).ConclusionsThe results suggest that there could be higher levels of some toxic trace elements in the group of patients with bipolar disorder than in the healthy control group.  相似文献

ObjectivesThe aim of this study was to investigate blood lead level and its relationship to essential elements (zinc, copper, iron, calcium and magnesium) in school-age children from Nanning, China.MethodsA total of 2457 children aged from 6 to 14 years were enrolled in Nanning, China. The levels of lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) were determined by an atomic absorption spectrometer.ResultsThe mean blood lead level (BLL) was 57.21 ± 35.00 μg/L. 188 (7.65%) asymptomatic children had toxic lead level higher than 100 μg/L. The school-age boys had similar lead level among different age groups, while the elder girls had less BLL. The blood Zn and Fe were found to be increased in the boys with elevated BLL, but similar trends were not observed in the girls. Positive correlations between Pb and Fe or Mg (r = 0.112, 0.062, respectively, p < 0.01) and a negative correlation between Pb and Ca (r = −0.047, p < 0.05) were further established in the studied children.ConclusionsLead exposure in school-age children was still prevalent in Nanning. The boys and girls differed in blood levels of lead and other metallic elements. Lead exposure may induce metabolic disorder of other metallic elements in body.  相似文献

BackgroundAn epidemiologic survey showed in 1992 iodine deficiency and endemic goiter in schoolchildren from the Basque Country.Objectives1) To determine the percentage of homes of schoolchildren where iodized salt (IS) is used; 2) to assess iodine nutrition status in schoolchildren and to compare the data collected to those available from previous epidemiological studies.Design and MethodsA cross-sectional study in 720 randomly selected schoolchildren. Urinary iodine concentration (UIC) was measured using high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) with electrochemical detection.ResultsIS was used at 53.0% of the homes (95% confidence interval [CI], 49.2-56.7%). Median UIC has increased by 226%, from 65 μg/L in 1992 to 147 μg/L (percentile [P], P25, 99 μg/L; P75, 233 μg/L) today. Both schoolchildren consuming IS and those using unfortified salt at their homes had UICs corresponding to adequate iodine intakes (165 and 132 μg/L respectively). UICs experienced great seasonal fluctuations, being 55% higher during the November-February period than in June-September period (191 μg/L vs 123 μg/L; p < 0.001)ConclusionsSchoolchildren from the Basque Country have normalized their iodine nutrition status. The strong seasonal pattern of UICs suggests that consumption of milk and iodine-rich dairy products coming from cows feed iodized fodder is one of the most significant factors involved in the increase in iodine intake since 1992.  相似文献

Dissolved reactive manganese seems to be one of the parameters which determines the trophic status of limnic waters, as suggested by its strong correlations with total phosphorus, chlorophyll a, and water pH. The determination of the trophic status involved the application of reactive manganese due to its bioavailability, providing information on the actual, not just the potential (as in the case of total phosphorus or total organic carbon), threat of water eutrophication. The calculation of trophic states index (TSI) based on the reactive manganese concentration, as determined by TSIDRMn = 20.61 ln (DRMn)  35.03, permits the rational assessment of the trophic status of lakes. Oligotrophic lakes are distinguished by concentrations of DRMn < 25 μg/L, mesotrophic by 25–60 μg/L, eutrophic by 60–150 μg/L, and hypertrophic by >150 μg/L.The trophic status of 25 lakes located in central Europe in north-eastern Poland was determined based on the proposed “manganese index” and verified by commonly applied indices proposed by Carlson, Kratzer and Brezonik, and Dunalska.  相似文献

IntroductionIodine is considered to be an essential micronutrient in pregnant women. Iodine placental transport to the embryo-fetus is essential for hormone synthesis and is crucial for nervous system development. However, the relationship between iodine intake and placental weight and its potential implications for the newborn have not been studied.Material and methodsIodine intake was analyzed in 77 pregnant women based on urinary iodine excretion (UIE) levels, measured using Pinós modified method (normal value, ≥ 150 μg/L). Placental weight was measured (PW: normal, ≥500 g). In the newborn, weight, height, and head perimeter (HP) were also measured. Placental index (PI: placental weight/newborn weight) was calculated, and was considered normal if ≥0.15.ResultsUIE was normal in 50 pregnant women (mean ± SD, 279 μg/L ± 70.22 μg/L) and decreased in 27 (94 μg/L ± 31.49 μg/L). Newborns of mothers with low UIE had a similar weight (3357 g ± 416.30 g; n: 27) to those of mothers with normal UIE (3489 g ± 560.59 g; n: 50). Forty-four percent of mothers with low UIE had PW <500 g, and statistically lower HPs were found in newborns of mothers with low PW (PW3500 g: 36.05 cm ± 0.55 cm, n: 54; PW <500 g: 33.93 cm ± 15 cm, n:23, p < 0.019). Similar results were found with PI, but they did not reach statistical significance (0,17 ± 0,04; p = 0.066). No differences were seen in all other parameters.ConclusionThe study suggests the existence of a relationship between PW and HP. This finding may be related to iodine intake during pregnancy.  相似文献

In fishes, arsenic (As) is absorbed via the gills and is capable of causing disturbance to the antioxidant system. The objective of present study was to evaluate antioxidant responses after As exposure in gills of zebrafish (Danio rerio, Cyprinidae). Fish were exposed for 48 h to three concentration of As, including the highest As concentration allowed by current Brazilian legislation (10 μg As/L). A control group was exposed to tap water (pH 8.0; 26 °C; 7.20 mg O2/L). As exposure resulted in (1) an increase (p < 0.05) of glutathione (GSH) levels after exposure to 10 and 100 μg As/L, (2) an increase of the glutamate cysteine ligase (GCL) activity in the same concentrations (p < 0.05), (3) no significant differences in terms of glutathione reductase, glutathione-S-transferase and catalase activities; (4) a significantly lower (p < 0.05) oxygen consumption after exposure to 100 μg As/L; (4) no differences in terms of oxygen reactive species generation and lipid peroxidation content (p > 0,05). In the gills, only inorganic As was detected. Overall, it can be concluded that As affected the antioxidant responses increasing GCL activity and GSH levels, even at concentration considered safe by Brazilian legislation.  相似文献

IntroductionGender differences in blood cadmium concentrations and the effect of iron deficiency on blood cadmium levels were analyzed in a representative sample of Koreans assessed in the Korean National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (KNHANES) 2008–2011.MethodsA rolling sampling design was used to perform a complex, stratified, multistage probability cluster survey of a representative sample of the non-institutionalized civilian population in South Korea. Serum ferritin was categorized as low (<15.0 μg/L), low normal (15.0–<30.0 μg/L for females and 15.0–<50.0 μg/L for males), and normal (≥30.0 μg/L for females and ≥50.0 μg/L for males), and its association with blood cadmium levels was assessed after adjustment for various demographic and lifestyle factors.ResultsThe geometric mean (GM) of the blood cadmium level was significantly higher in females than in males, and significantly higher in older individuals for both genders. After controlling for covariates, multiple regression analysis with interaction terms showed that blood cadmium was correlated with serum ferritin levels only in pre-menopausal females.DiscussionIron deficiency is associated with blood cadmium levels in a representative sample of pre-menopausal females, as evaluated in KNHANES. Gender differences in blood cadmium concentration may not be due solely to an iron deficiency-associated increase in blood cadmium.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo evaluate the effects of physiologic doses of levothyroxine replacement on the lipoprotein profile in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH).MethodsIn a prospective, double-blind, placebo- controlled study, we enrolled 120 patients—mostly, but not exclusively, premenopausal women—with SCH. Patients were randomly assigned to either a levothyroxine- treated group (n = 60) or a placebo (control) group (n = 60). Total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglycerides (TG) were measured before and 52 weeks after assignment to either group.ResultsIn the levothyroxine-treated group, the lipoprotein mean values before and after the 52-week study were as follows: TC, 5.05 ± 0.98 mmol/L versus 4.74 ± 0.87 mmol/L (P < .0001); LDL-C, 3.30 ± 0.90 mmol/L versus 2.89 ± 0.59 mmol/L (P < .01); TG, 1.18 ± 0.71 mmol/L versus 0.95 ± 0.53 mmol/L (P < .002); and HDL-C, 1.20 ± 0.33 mmol/L versus 1.19 ± 0.32 mmol/L (P = .29). In the control group, TC, HDL-C, and TG values remained unchanged after 52 weeks in comparison with baseline, but LDL-C mean values increased from 2.79 ± 0.60 mmol/L to 3.11 ± 0.77 mmol/L, a change that was statistically significant (P < .001). At the end of the study, the lipid profile changes between levothyroxine- treated and control groups were compared. Total cholesterol and LDL-C were significantly lower in the levothyroxine-receiving group (P < .029 and P < .0001, respectively) in comparison with the control group. The difference did not reach statistical significance for TG and HDL-C values.ConclusionIn premenopausal women, SCH has a negative effect on the lipoprotein profile and may translate into a sizable cardiovascular risk if left untreated. IntroductionExposure to lead and cadmium is a public health problem due to the broad exposure to these toxic substances among the general population. The objective of this study is to determine blood lead and cadmium concentrations in a working population drawn from six university hospitals in Madrid, Getafe, Cartagena, Santiago de Compostela, Santander and Palma de Mallorca (Spain) and to identify associated factors.Materials and methods951 individuals participated in the study and were administered the standardized PESA® questionnaire regarding exposure to lead and cadmium. The blood lead and cadmium concentrations were measured by electrothermal atomization atomic absorption spectrometry with Zeeman background correction in Perkin-Elmer spectrometers, guaranteeing the transferability of the results.ResultsThe median overall blood lead concentration was: 1.6 μg/dL (IQR: 0.9–2.7) and that of cadmium was: 0.21 μg/L (IQR: 0.10–0.50). There were significant differences in lead levels between men (2 μg/dL) and women (1.5 μg/dL), postmenopausal (2.6 μg/dL) and premenopausal women (1.1 μg/dL), and between participants who cooked in earthenware (2.1 μg/dL) and those who did not (1.5 μg/dL). The median of cadmium in women (0.24 μg/L) was higher than in men (0.11 μg/L) and was also higher in subjects who smoked (0.70 μg/L) than in non-smokers (0.13 μg/L).ConclusionsA reduction in blood lead and cadmium levels was observed with respect to previous studies carried out in Spain. Nevertheless, the results suggest there are certain factors which increase risk such as age, gender, menopause, age of housing, cooking in lead-glazed earthenware and exposure to cigarette smoke.  相似文献

BackgroundLung-graft loss is a potential problem for the majority of lung-transplant recipients. Retransplantation could be a treatment option, despite significant morbidity and mortality due to infectious complications. The epidemiology, clinical presentation and early treatment are still the basis of the overall approach to the fungal invasive infection after repeated transplant.Clinical caseThis is the case of a 29 year-old woman who underwent a left lung retransplantation due to bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome and developed Candida albicans invasive disease. She received the usual prophylaxis with nebulized liposomal amphotericin B and was also treated with anidulafungin. She received corticosteroid therapy and plasma exchange as acute lung transplant rejection was suspected with subsequent progressive deterioration and death. In the culture of blood samples yeasts were isolated, later identified as C. albicans resistant to fluconazole, caspofungin and micafungin (MCI 128 μg/ml, 8 μg/ml, 4 μg/ml, respectively) and susceptible to anidulafungin and amphotericin B (MCI 0.25 μg/ml, 0.5 μg/ml, respectively).ConclusionsThe empirical management of acute transplant rejection with corticosteroid boluses and plasma exchange can help to spread the underlying and undiagnosed fungal infection. It is considered that an increase in the regular dose of anidulafungin is necessary after plasma exchange. To date, fungal echinocandin resistance did not seem to be a major cause for concern in the treatment of patients with invasive mycoses. However, there is increasing evidence of natural and acquired resistance resulting in life-threatening infections and clinical failure.  相似文献

PurposeThe aim of this study was to investigate the potential benefits of an extract obtained from seeds/fruits of an Oleaceae (Fraxinus excelsior L.) on glucose homeostasis and associated metabolic markers in non-diabetic overweight/obese subjects.Materials and methodsThis study was performed in 22 participants (50–80 years-old; BMI 31.0 kg/m2). The design was a longitudinal, randomized, crossover, double-blind, placebo-controlled 7-week nutritional intervention. The participants received daily 3 capsules each containing either 333 mg of an extract from Fraxinus excelsior L. seeds (Glucevia®) or placebo capsules (control) in a random order for 3 weeks with 1 week of washout between treatments. Moreover, they followed a balanced covert energy-restricted diet (−15% energy). All variables were measured at the beginning and at the end of each period.ResultsCompared to baseline, the administration of 1 g of Glucevia® for 3 weeks resulted in significantly lower incremental glucose area under the curve (−28.2%; p < 0.01), and significantly lower 2 h blood glucose values (−14%; p < 0.01) following an oral glucose tolerance test. No significant changes were found in the control group (−7.9% AUC, −1.6% 2 h blood glucose). Furthermore, significant differences were found between responses in the control and Glucevia® groups with respect to serum fructosamine and plasma glucagon levels (p < 0.01 and p < 0.05, respectively). Interestingly, administration of Glucevia® significantly increased the adiponectin:leptin ratio (p < 0.05) and decreased fat mass (p < 0.01) compared to control (p < 0.05).ConclusionThe administration of an extract from Fraxinus excelsior L. seeds/fruits in combination with a moderate hypocaloric diet may be beneficial in metabolic disturbances linked to impaired glucose tolerance, obesity, insulin resistance and inflammatory status, specifically in older adults.  相似文献

Iron status was studied in 137 welders exposed to a geometric mean (GM) air concentration of 214 μg/m3 (range 1–3230) of manganese (Mn), in 137 referents and in 34 former welders. The GM concentrations of S-ferritin were 119 (3–1498), 112 (9–1277) and 98 (12–989) μg/L (p = 0.24) in the three groups, respectively. Also the GM concentrations of S-hepcidin were not significantly different between the groups (8.4 μg/L (2.8–117); 6.6 μg/L (1.8–100); 6.5 μg/L (1.2–22)) (p = 0.22). Multiple linear regression analysis including all welders and referents showed an increase in the concentration of S-ferritin associated with having serum carbohydrate deficient transferrin (S-CDT) above the upper reference limit of ≥1.7%, indicating high alcohol consumption. Serum C-reactive protein was not associated with exposure as welders, but an association with S-ferritin was shown. The GM S-ferritin concentrations among all welders and referents with S-CDT  1.7% were 157 μg/L (95% CI 113–218) as compared to 104 μg/L (95% CI 94–116) (p = 0.02) in those with S-CDT < 1.7%. The GM concentrations of Mn in biological fluids were higher in the welders as compared to the referents, while S-Fe, S-Co and B-Co were statistically significantly lower. This could suggest a competitive inhibition from Mn on the uptake of Fe and Co. Increasing concentrations of S-CDT was associated with higher S-Mn, S-Fe and B-Co in the multiple linear regression analysis. The association between S-CDT and S-Fe remained when all subjects with high S-CDT (≥1.7%) were excluded, suggesting increased uptake of Fe even at lower alcohol consumption.  相似文献

ObjectiveWe investigated the correlation between the severity of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and carotid intima media thickness (IMT) as a marker of atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes.MethodsThe study group consisted of 140 normo-tensive Egyptian patients (68 males and 72 females) with type 2 diabetes and DR. Carotid IMT was evaluated using high-resolution B-mode ultrasonography. DR was assessed and graded using colored fundus photography and fundus fluorescein angiography, as either nonproliferative DR (NPDR) or proliferative DR (PDR).ResultsCarotid IMT was greater in patients with PDR compared to those with NPDR (1.094 ± 0.142 mm vs. 0.842 ± 0.134 mm; P < .001). Carotid IMT showed positive correlation with diabetes duration (P < .01), systolic blood pressure (P < .001), diastolic blood pressure (P < .01), fasting blood glucose (P < .01), postprandial blood glucose (PPBG) (P < .001), glycated hemoglobin (P < .01), total cholesterol (P < .01), triglycerides (TGs) (P < .001), and DR (P < .0001). No significant difference was found between males and females in any of the studied parameters. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the determinants of carotid IMT in the studied group were age (P < .01), PPBG (P < .01), TGs (P < .001), and DR (P < .0001).ConclusionOur study proves that both NPDR and PDR are strong determinants of carotid IMT and atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes. ObjectiveThe prevalence of vitamin D inadequacy is high in obese individuals. Determining the response of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) to vitamin D3 supplementation in obese and nonobese individuals may lead to concurrent recommendations for optimal vitamin D intake in these populations. The objective of this study was to determine the dose response of vitamin D3 in subjects with a body mass index ≥ 35 kg/m2.MethodsRandomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. This study is an extension of our previous study of vitamin D dosing in healthy adults. After an assessment of baseline 25(OH)D levels, participants were randomized to a vitamin D supplementation arm (100 μg daily if baseline 25[OH]D was < 50 nmol/L, or 50 μg daily if baseline 25[OH]D was ≥ 50 nmol/L) or placebo arm. Subjects with baseline 25(OH)D level ≥ 80 nmol/L were excluded from the study. Two months following randomization, a repeat 25(OH)D measurement was done.ResultsFinal analysis included 25 subjects (14 placebo, 11 active). At 2 months, serum 25(OH)D concentration increased to a mean of 75 nmol/L in the active group. Mean slope (i.e., vitamin D3 response), defined as 25(OH) D change/baseline dose, was 0.398 nmol/L/μg/day.ConclusionThe dose response of vitamin D3 (slope) in obese subjects was significantly lower (P < .03) at 0.398 nmol/L/μg/day compared to the slope in the previous study of healthy subjects (0.66 nmol/L/μg/day). These results suggest that obese individuals may require 40% higher vitamin D intake than nonobese individuals to attain the same serum 25(OH)D concentration. Folic acid is antidepressant, either alone or combined with several antidepressant drugs. However, the antidepressant-like actions of folic acid combined with intra-lateral septal (LSN) infusions of neuropeptide Y (NPY) in the forced swimming test (FST) have not been tested before. Thus, systemic injections of fluoxetine (20.0 mg/kg, P < 0.05; s.c.) or 17-β estradiol (10.0 μg/rat, P < 0.05; s.c.) or oral administrations of folic acid (50.0 mg/kg, P < 0.05; 75.0 mg/kg, P < 0.05) or NPY intra-LSN (3.0 μg, P < 0.05; 3.5 μg, P < 0.05) reduced immobility of ovariectomized Wistar rats. Subthreshold doses of: folic acid (25.0 mg/kg) or 17-β estradiol (5.0 μg/rat, P < 0.05) or fluoxetine (15.0 mg/kg, P < 0.05; s.c.) combined with subthreshold doses of NPY (2.5 μg/rat, P < 0.05; intra-LSN) and these combinations produced antidepressant-like actions; which were canceled by BIBP 3226 (a NPY-Y1 receptor antagonist). It is concluded that folic acid produced antidepressant-like effects probably through the participation of the NPY Y1 receptors found in the lateral septal nuclei.  相似文献

To evaluate blood lead levels (BLLs) and possible influencing factors among children and adolescents in Lu’an, we collected blood samples of 3266 outpatients aged 1–18 years from January 2012 to December 2014 and BLLs were determined by atomizer absorption spectrophotometer. The results showed that the geometric mean (GM) of BLLs was 29.53 μg/L (95% CI: 29.00–30.06 μg/L) and the prevalence of BLLs ≥50 and 100 μg/L were 17.7% and 0.2%, respectively. The GM BLLs and prevalence of BLLs ≥50 μg/L were increased with age before 7 years old and then slightly decreased, and, contrary to previous studies, they were the highest at Jan–Feb and the lowest at Sep–Oct. From 2012 to 2014, the GM BLLs were significantly increased (P < 0.001) while the prevalence of BLLs ≥50 μg/L was decreased but with no significant difference (P > 0.05). These results suggested that although the BLLs of Lu’an children were lower than most areas of China and several neighboring cities as previously reported, they were still higher than that of developed countries. Meanwhile, the GM BLLs of children and adolescents from Lu’an have a trend of increase in recent years. A lot of future works need to be done to identify the risk factors for lead exposure.  相似文献

Studies show that decreased antioxidant system is related to cognitive decline. Thus we aimed to measure selenium (Se) status in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) elderly and compared them with a control group (CG). 27 AD, 17 MCI and 28 control elderly were evaluated. Se concentration was determined in plasma and erythrocyte by using hydride generation atomic absorption spectroscopy. Erythrocyte Se concentration in AD group was lower than CG (43.73 ± 23.02 μg/L and 79.15 ± 46.37 μg/L; p = 0.001), but not statistically different from MCI group (63.97 ± 18.26 μg/L; p = 0.156). AD group exhibited the lowest plasma Se level (34.49 ± 19.94 μg/L) when compared to MCI (61.36 ± 16.08 μg/L; p = 0.000) and to CG (50.99 ± 21.06 μg/L; p = 0.010). It is observed that erythrocyte Se decreases as cognition function does. Since erythrocyte reflects longer-term nutritional status, the data point to the importance of the relation between Se exposure and cognitive function. Our findings suggest that the deficiency of Se may contribute to cognitive decline among aging people.  相似文献
