Cassava is one of the most important commodities in Indonesia, an agricultural country. Cassava is one of the primary foods in our country and usually used for traditional food, cake, etc. Cassava peel is an agricultural waste from the food and starch processing industries. In this study, this solid waste was used as the precursor for activated carbon preparation. The preparation process consisted of potassium hydroxide impregnation at different impregnation ratio followed by carbonization at 450-750 degrees C for 1-3 h. The results revealed that activation time gives no significant effect on the pore structure of activated carbon produced, however, the pore characteristic of carbon changes significantly with impregnation ratio and carbonization temperature. The maximum surface area and pore volume were obtained at impregnation ratio 5:2 and carbonization temperature 750 degrees C.  相似文献

The powdered activated carbon prepared by phosphoric acid activation was significantly affected by the carbonization temperature and the weight ratio between raw material and phosphoric acid. With an activation time of 1h and an impregnation ratio of 1:1, the activated carbons with better adsorption capacity were obtained at 500 degrees C. A reduction in the adsorption capacity of the carbon product at higher acid content than this was observed, possibly due to the collapse of the micropore structure. The properties of the resulting activated carbon were: bulk density 0.251gcm(-3), ash content 4.88%, yield 26.2%, iodine adsorption 1043mgg(-1), methylene blue adsorption number 427mgg(-1), and BET surface area 1239m(2)g(-1).  相似文献

Canes from Arundo donax, a herbaceous rapid-growing plant, were used as precursor for activated carbon preparation by phosphoric acid activation under a self-generated atmosphere. The influence of the carbonization temperature in the range 400-550 degrees C and of the weight ratio phosphoric acid to precursor (R = 1.5-2.5) on the developed porous structure of the resulting carbons was studied for 1 h of carbonization time. Surface properties of the activated carbons were dependent on a combined effect of the conditions employed. Carbons developed either with R = 1.5 over the range 400-500 degrees C, or with R = 2 at 500 degrees C exhibited surface areas of around 1100 m2/g, the latter conditions promoting a larger pore volume and enhanced mesoporous character. For both ratios, temperature above 500 degrees C led to reduction in porosity development. A similar effect was found for the highest ratio (R = 2.5) and 500 degrees C. The influence of carrying out the carbonization either for times shorter than 1 h or under flowing N2 was also examined at selected conditions (R = 2, 500 degrees C). Shorter times induced increase in the surface area (approximately 1300 m2/g), yielding carbons with smaller mean pore radius. Activated carbons obtained under flowing N2 possessed predominant microporous structures and larger ash contents than the samples derived in the self-generated atmosphere.  相似文献

Activated carbons were prepared from pecan shell by phosphoric acid activation. The pore structure and acidic surface groups of these carbons were characterized by nitrogen adsorption, Boehm titration and transmittance Fourier infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) techniques. The characterization results demonstrated that the development of pore structure was apparent at temperatures 250 degrees C, and reached 1130m(2)/g and 0.34cm(3)/g, respectively, at 500 degrees C. Impregnation ratio and soaking time at activation temperature also affected the pore development and pore size distribution of final carbon products. At an impregnation ratio of 1.5, activated carbon with BET surface area and micropore volume as high as 861m(2)/g and 0.289cm(3)/g was obtained at 400 degrees C. Microporous activated carbons were obtained in this study. Low impregnation ratio (less than 1.5) and activation temperature (less than 300 degrees C) are favorable to the formation of acidic surface functional groups, which consist of temperature-sensitive (unstable at high temperature) and temperature-insensitive (stable at high temperature) two parts. The disappearance of temperature-sensitive groups was significant at temperature 300 degrees C; while the temperature-insensitive groups are stable even at 500 degrees C. FTIR results showed that the temperature-insensitive part was mostly phosphorus-containing groups as well as some carbonyl-containing groups, while carbonyl-containing groups were the main contributor of temperature-sensitive part.  相似文献

Physico-chemical properties of a bioorganic char were modified by pyrolysis in the presence of NaOH, and with subsequent physical activation of carbonaceous species with CO2 a value-added activated carbon was fabricated. Bioorganic char is produced as a co-product during the production of bio-fuel from the pyrolysis of chicken litter. Untreated char contains approximately 37 wt% of C and approximately 43-45 wt% of inorganic minerals containing K, Ca, Fe, P, Cu, Mg, and Si. Carbonization and chemical activation of the char at 600 degrees C in the presence of NaOH in forming gas (4% H2 balanced with Ar) produced mainly demineralized activated carbon having BET (Brunauer, Emmett, and Teller) surface area of 486 m2/g and average pore size of 2.8 nm. Further physical activation with CO2 at 800 degrees C for 30 min resulted in activated carbon with BET surface area of 788 m2/g and average pore size of 2.2 nm. The mineral content was 10 wt%. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) indicated that the latter activation process reduced the pyrrolic- and/or pyridonic-N, increased pyridinic-N and formed quaternary-N at the expense of pyrrolic- and/or pyridonic-N found in the untreated char.  相似文献

The production of activated carbons from grain sorghum with phosphoric acid activation has been studied by means of two processes, i.e., one-stage and two-stage. The former comprises simultaneous carbonization and activation after impregnation; the latter, the carbonization of the precursor at 300 degrees C for 15 min, followed by the activation of the resultant char after impregnation with phosphoric acid. The preparation conditions, e.g., activation duration, phosphoric acid concentration, and activation temperature, have been varied to determine the optimal processing conditions. The optimal activation conditions for the highest surface areas have been determined to be 600 and 500 degrees C with a phosphoric acid concentration of 35% for the one-stage and two-stage processes, respectively. The two-stage process has been found to greatly enhance the porosity development, especially the microporosity.  相似文献

Effects of different pretreatment protocols in (NH(4))(2)HPO(4) activation of rice straw on porous activated carbon evolution were evaluated. The pore structure, morphology and surface chemistry of obtained activated carbons were investigated by nitrogen adsorption, scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. It was found that pretreatment combining impregnation with (NH(4))(2)HPO(4) and preoxidation could significantly affect the physicochemical properties of prepared activated carbons. The apparent surface area and total pore volume as high as 1154 m(2)/g and 0.670 cm(3)/g were obtained respectively, when combined process of impregnation followed by preoxidation at 200°C and activation at 700°C was carried out. Meanwhile, the activated carbon yield and maximum methylene blue adsorption capacity up to 41.14% and 129.5 mg/g were achieved, respectively. The results exhibited that (NH(4))(2)HPO(4) could be an effective activating agent for producing activated carbons from rice straw.  相似文献

Prebiotic synthesis in atmospheres containing CH4, CO,and CO2   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The prebiotic synthesis of organic compounds using a spark discharge on various simulated primitive earth atmospheres at 25 degrees C has been studied. Methane mixtures contained H2 + CH4 + H2O + N2 + NH3 with H2/CH4 molar ratios from 0 to 4 and pNH3 = 0.1 torr. A similar set of experiments without added NH3 was performed. The yields of amino acids (1.2 to 4.7% based on the carbon) are approximately independent of the H2/CH4 ratio and whether NH3 was present, and a wide variety of amino acids are obtained. Mixtures of H2 + CO + H2O + N2 and H2 + CO2 + H2O + N2, with and without added NH3, all gave about 2% yields of amino acids at H2/CO and H2/CO2 ratios of 2 to 4. For a H2/CO2 ratio of 0, the yield of amino acids is extremely low (10(-3)%). Glycine is almost the only amino acid produced from CO and CO2 model atmospheres. These results show that the maximum yield is about the same for the three carbon sources at high H2/carbon ratios, but that CH4 is superior at low H2/carbon ratios. In addition, CH4 gives a much greater variety of amino acids than either CO or CO2. If it is assumed that an abundance of amino acids more complex than glycine was required for the origin of life, then these results indicate the requirement for CH4 in the primitive atmosphere.  相似文献

The production of activated carbon from coconut shell treated with phosphoric acid (H3PO4) was optimized using the response surface methodology (RSM). Fifteen combinations of the three variables namely; impregnation ratio (1, 1.5, and 2); activation time (10, 20, and 30 min); and activation temperature (400, 450, and 500 degrees C) were optimized based on the responses evaluated (yield, bulk density, average pore diameter, small pore diameter, and number of pores in a unit area). Pore diameters were directly measured from scanning electron microscope (SEM) images. Individual second-order response surface models were developed and contour plots were generated for the optimization analysis. The optimum range identified for impregnation ratio was from 1.345 to 2, while for the activation time was from 14.9 to 23.9 min. For the activation temperature it was from 394 to 416 degrees C. The optimum points are 1.725, 19.5 min, and 416 degrees C, respectively. The models were able to predict well the values of the responses when the optimum variable parameters were validated as proven by the generally acceptable values of the residual percentages. Direct characterization of the pores using the SEM was found to be a good technique to actually see the pores and get actual measurements. Additionally, RSM has also proven to be a good tool in optimization analysis to get not only optimum production condition points but ranges, which are crucial for the flexibility of the production process, as well.  相似文献

The enthalpy balance model of growth uses measurements of the rates of heat and CO(2) production to quantify rates of decarboxylation, oxidative phosphorylation and net anabolism. Enthalpy conversion efficiency (eta(H)) and the net rate of conservation of enthalpy in reduced biosynthetic products (R(SG)DeltaH(B)) can be calculated from metabolic heat rate (q) and CO(2) rate (R(CO2)). eta(H) is closely related to carbon conversion efficiency and the efficiency of conservation of available electrons in biosynthetic products. R(SG)DeltaH(B) and eta(H) can be used, together with biomass composition, to describe the rate and efficiency of growth of plant tissues. q is directly related to the rate of O(2) consumption and the ratio q:R(CO2) is inversely related to the respiratory quotient. We grew seedlings of Eucalyptus globulus at 16 and 28 degrees C for four to six weeks, then measured q and R(CO2) using isothermal calorimetry. Respiratory rate at a given temperature was increased by a lower growth temperature but eta(H) was unaffected. Enthalpy conversion efficiency - and, therefore, carbon conversion efficiency - decreased with increasing temperature from 15 to 35 degrees C. The ratio of oxidative phosphorylation to oxygen consumption (P/O ratio) was inferred in vivo from eta(H) and by assuming a constant ratio of growth to maintenance respiration with changing temperature. The P/O ratio decreased from 2.1 at 10-15 degrees C to less than 0.3 at 35 degrees C, suggesting that decreased efficiency was not only due to activity of the alternative oxidase pathway. In agreement with predictions from non-equilibrium thermodynamics, growth rate was maximal near 25 degrees C, where the calculated P/O ratio was about half maximum. We propose that less efficient pathways, such as the alternative oxidase pathway, are necessary to satisfy the condition of conductance matching whilst maintaining a near constant phosphorylation potential. These conditions minimize entropy production and maximize the efficiency of mitochondrial energy conversions as growing conditions change, while maintaining adequate finite rates of energy processing.  相似文献

The Donnan ratio for chloride ion (rCl) was determined for human red cells in plasma utilizing 36Cl. The effect of altered PCO2 and pH on rCl was followed in two ways. CO2 partial pressure was varied (1-1.5% CO2 in O2; pH range 7.1-7.9) at 37.5 degrees C (isothermal); PCO2 and pH were also changed by altering temperature (range 5-45 degrees C) at constant CO2 content (temperature induced). At pH 7.4 and 37.5 degrees C, rCl was 0.631 +/- 0.0269 (SE, N = 5); isothermal drcl/dpH = -0.306 +/- 0.0234. When measured under conditions of variable temperature at constant CO2 content (pH range 7.3-7.9), drcl/dpH = .018 +/- 0.0232, significantly different from isothermal response (P less than 0.001). Hematocrit (H) changes with pH for conditions of initial H(7.4) of 0.45, under these conditions were also determined: isothermal dH/dpH = -0.031 +/- 0.0019; temperature induced, -0.004 +/- 0.0009. Temperature change alone at constant carbon dioxide content produces no significant change in distribution of chloride ions or water between erythrocyte and plasma compartments.  相似文献

A gasification test rig was designed in which peat was gasified under nitrogen over a temperature range 25-550 degrees C at 5 degrees C min(-1). The gasification unit resulted in 35.5 wt% of the carbon present in the peat being converted to a volatile fraction. The volatile fraction was transferred to a secondary catalytic reforming reactor at 800 degrees C. The thermal effect of the second reactor resulted in an increase in the CO, CO2 and CH4 content of the volatile fraction, a syngas ratio of 0.75 and a higher heating value (HHV) of 26.5 MJ kg(-1). Several nickel-supported catalysts were investigated with the intention that they should give an increase in the conversion of the condensable hydrocarbons in the volatile fraction to CO, CO2 and CH4, and a resultant gas stream suitable for use in an integrated gasification combined cycle plant (IGCC) (i.e. syngas ratio 2:1, low methane content and better HHV). Alumina-supported nickel catalysts investigated gave the highest activities and co-precipitated Ni/Al catalysts were most active. A Ni/Al 3:17 catalyst increased the conversion of the hydrocarbons to 91.5%, gave a syngas ratio of 1.81:1, increased the HHV by a factor of 5.3 and completely eliminated methane from the gas stream.  相似文献

Temperature dependencies of stem dark respiration (R(d)) and light-driven bark photosynthesis (A(max)) of two temperate tree species (Fagus sylvatica and Betula pendula) were investigated to estimate their probable influence on stem carbon balance. Stem R(d) was found to increase exponentially with increasing temperatures, whereas A(max) levelled off or decreased at the highest temperatures chosen (35-40 degrees C). Accordingly, a linear relationship between respiratory and assimilatory metabolism was only found at moderate temperatures (10-30 degrees C) and the relationship between stem R(d) and A(max) clearly departed from linearity at chilling (5 degrees C) and at high temperatures (35-40 degrees C). As a result, the proportional internal C-refixation rate also decreased non-linearly with increasing temperature. Temperature response of photosystem II (PSII) photochemistry was also assessed. Bark photochemical yield (Delta F/F(m)') followed the same temperature pattern as bark CO(2) assimilation. Maximum quantum yield of PSII (F(v)/F(m)) decreased drastically at freezing temperatures (-5 degrees C), while from 30 to 40 degrees C only a marginal decrease in F(v)/F(m) was found. In in situ measurements during winter months, bark photosynthesis was found to be strongly reduced. Low temperature stress induced an active down-regulation of PSII efficiency as well as damage to PSII due to photoinhibition. All in all, the benefit of bark photosynthesis was negatively affected by low (<5 degrees C) as well as high temperatures (>30 degrees C). As the carbon balance of tree stems is defined by the difference between photosynthetic carbon gain and respiratory carbon loss, this might have important implications for accurate modelling of stem carbon balance.  相似文献

An improved method was devised to purify ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (RuBisCO) with high specific activity (2.1 mumol of CO2 fixed/mg protein/min) from Euglena gracilis Z. The purified enzyme stored at -80 degrees C required treatment with dithiothreitol for full activity. The dithiothreitol-treated RuBisCO was activated by 12 mM NaHCO3 and 20 mM MgCl2, and the activated state was stable at least for 60 min in the presence of 4 mM ethylenediaminetetraacetate. The form of inorganic carbon fixed by the Euglena enzyme was CO2, as for the plant enzymes. The carboxylase reaction proceeded linearly with time for at least 8 min. The optimum pH for this reaction was 7.8 to 8.0. The carboxylase activity increased with increasing temperature up to 50 degrees C. The activation energy for the carboxylation reaction was 10.0 kcal/mol. The Michaelis constants of Euglena RuBisCO were 30.9 microM for CO2, 560 microM for O2, and 10.5 microM for ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate. Mathematical comparison between the photosynthesis rate predicted from these enzymatic properties and the observed rate suggested that there is no CO2-concentrating mechanism in E. gracilis.  相似文献

Steam explosion of Eucalyptus grandis has been carried out under various pretreatment conditions (200-210 degrees C, 2-5 min) after impregnation of the wood chips with 0.087 and 0.175% (w/w) H2SO4. This study, arranged as a 2(3) factorial design, indicated that pretreatment temperature is the most critical variable affecting the yield of steam-treated fractions. Pretreatment of 0.175% (w/w) H2SO4-impregnated chips at 210 degrees C for 2 min was the best condition for hemicellulose recovery (mostly as xylose) in the water soluble fraction, reaching almost 70% of the corresponding xylose theoretical yield. By contrast, lower pretreatment temperatures of 200 degrees C were enough to yield steam-treated substrates from which a 90% cellulose conversion was obtained in 48 h, using low enzyme loadings of a Celluclast 1.5 1 plus Novozym 188 mixture (Novo Nordisk). Release of water-soluble chromophores was monitored by UV spectroscopy and their concentration increased with pretreatment severity. The yield of alkali-soluble lignin increased at higher levels of acid impregnation and pretreatment temperatures. Thermoanalysis of these lignin fractions indicated a pattern of lignin fragmentation towards greater pretreatment severities but lignin condensation prevailed at the most drastic pretreatment conditions.  相似文献

Thermophilic biohydrogen production from glucose with trickling biofilter   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Thermophilic H2 production from glucose was studied at 55-64 degrees C for 234 days using a continuous trickling biofilter reactor (TBR) packed with a fibrous support matrix. Important parameters investigated included pH, temperature, hydraulic retention time (HRT), and glucose concentration in the feed. The optimal pH and temperature were 5.5 and 60 degrees C, respectively. With decreasing HRT or increasing inlet glucose concentration, volumetric H2 production rate increased but the H2 production yield to glucose decreased gradually. The biogas composition was almost constant at 53 +/- 4% (v/v) of H2 and 47 +/- 4% (v/v) of CO2. No appreciable CH4 was detected when the reactor was under a normal operation. The carbon mass balance showed that, in addition to cell mass, lactate, n-butyrate, CO2, and acetate were major products that comprised more than 85% of the carbon consumed. The maximal volumetric H2 production rate and H2 yield to glucose were 1,050 +/- 63 mmol H2/l.d and 1.11 +/- 0.12 mol H2/mol glucose, respectively. These results indicate that the thermophilic TBR is superior to most suspended or immobilized reactor systems reported thus far. This is the first report on continuous H2 production by a thermophilic TBR system.  相似文献

In the present study, granular activated carbons were prepared from agricultural waste corn cob by chemical activation with potassium salts and/or physical activation with CO2. Under the experimental conditions investigated, potassium hydroxide (KOH) and potassium carbonate (K2CO3) were effective activating agents for chemical activation during a ramping period of 10 degrees C/min and subsequent gasification (i.e., physical activation) at a soaking period of 800 degrees C. Large BET surface areas (>1,600 m2/g) of activated carbons were thus obtained by the combined activation. In addition, this study clearly showed that the porosity created in the acid-unwashed carbon products is substantially lower than that of acid-washed carbon products due to potassium salts left in the pore structure.  相似文献

Exposure to high concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) killed adult and nymphal stages of the oriental cockroach Blatta orientalis L. (Dictyoptera: Blattidae) with LT50 values of 11.5-16.2 h for 60% CO2 in air and 5.7-7.1 h for 100% CO2 at 20 degrees C; corresponding LT50s at 28 degrees C were 2.8-4.6 h for 60% CO2 in air and 2.3-3.6 h for 100% CO2. Complete kill of mobile stages was obtained within 24 h using 60% CO2 at 20 degrees C. Survivors of treatments with 100% CO2 at 28 degrees C remained completely paralysed for up to 3 days post-treatment and took up to 5 days to regain normal movement, but adult females then resumed production of oothecae with no significant loss in fecundity. Oothecae 5 or 30 days after deposition required 60-84 h exposure to 60% CO2 at 20 degrees C to prevent emergence of nymphs but less time using 100% CO2 at 28 degrees C. At 28 degrees C, when adult females were treated with 100% CO2 and 52% r.h. for 6 h (giving 100% mortality) loss of weight was significantly greater than that following treatment with air at 52% r.h. for 6 h (giving no mortality). However, significantly greater weight loss also occurred when they were treated with dried air (< 10% r.h.) for 6 h, also with no mortality. The toxicity of CO2 to mobile stages of the oriental cockroach appeared to result from irreversible effects on the nervous system, rather than from water loss during exposure.  相似文献

The Slr1991 adenylyl cyclase of the model prokaroyte Synechocystis PCC 6803 was stimulated 2-fold at 20 mM total C(i) (inorganic carbon) at pH 7.5 through an increase in k(cat). A dose response demonstrated an EC50 of 52.7 mM total C(i) at pH 6.5. Slr1991 adenylyl cyclase was activated by CO2, but not by HCO3-. CO2 regulation of adenylyl cyclase was conserved in the CyaB1 adenylyl cyclase of Anabaena PCC 7120. These adenylyl cyclases represent the only identified signalling enzymes directly activated by CO2. The findings prompt an urgent reassessment of the activating carbon species for proposed HCO3--activated adenylyl cyclases.  相似文献
