This study investigates how metabolic rate, as required for thermoregulation, interacts with breathing control during development of the lamb. Fifteen lambs were studied sequentially at 4, 14, 30, 45 and 55 days of age. During each study they were maintained at ambient temperatures of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 degrees C for at least 1 h before measurements were made during N-REM sleep. Basal oxygen consumption fell from 16.1 +/- 0.72 (+/- SEM) to 10.1 +/- 0.47 ml/min per kg between 4 and 55 days of age, while breathing frequencies fell from 52.3 +/- 4.4 to 32.4 +/- 1.6 breaths/min over this period. Ventilation increased as oxygen consumption increased on cooling below thermoneutrality. In 4 days-old lambs this was achieved by an increase in breath amplitude, whilst in older lambs breathing frequency also rose. As breathing frequency fell there was a greater incidence of expiratory laryngeal braking at thermoneutrality associated with lengthened expiratory time. The ambient temperature at which these effects occurred, together with panting thresholds, progressively changed with age as the upper and lower critical temperatures fell and the thermoneutral range widened during development. It is concluded that metabolic rate provides a powerful stimulus to breathing in infant lambs. As the metabolic stimulus decreases with age, basal breathing frequency falls and expiratory laryngeal braking becomes important not only to protect lung volume, but also, through airway mechanosensory reflexes, in regulating breath time. This interaction is also particularly apparent as the metabolic and respiratory requirements alter to meet changes in ambient conditions.  相似文献

This study investigates the mechanisms involved in adjusting metabolic rate in response to acute changes in ambient temperature close to thermoneutrality during postnatal development. Twelve lambs were prepared for sequential studies at 4, 14, 30, 45 and 55 days of age. During each study they were maintained at ambient temperatures of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 degrees C for at least 1 h and until a slow wave sleep epoch was established. Eight lambs completed all studies. In these there was a significant fall in oxygen consumption with age which was independent of ambient temperature. This effect was closely related to a decrease in plasma triiodothyronine concentration that was greatest between 4- and 14-days old lambs and was not associated with a change in the plasma concentration of thyrotrophin or thyroxine. In 4-days old lambs oxygen consumption was increased at ambient temperatures of 5 and 10 degrees C by non-shivering thermogenesis, whilst in 14- and 30-days old lambs this effect was achieved by shivering. On the basis of significant changes in oxygen consumption and/or the occurrence of shivering (lower critical temperature) and panting (upper critical temperature) we have shown that there is a fall in both upper and lower critical temperature with age and a widening of the thermoneutral zone. This was associated with a decrease in the plasma cortisol concentration and heart rate as measured at thermoneutrality, whilst rectal temperature increased from 4 to 30 days of age. The other 4 lambs, 3 of which died between 7 and 17 days of age, had low plasma triiodothyronine concentrations when studied at 4 and/or 14 days of age and their oxygen consumption at thermoneutrality was significantly lower than the normal group at 14 days. Shivering thermogenesis occurred at an earlier age and control of body temperature was less effective. It is concluded that triiodothyronine has an important role in the control of metabolic rate in the developing lamb even to meet modest changes in ambient temperature, and possibly directly in survival.  相似文献

Experiments were done on seven lambs between the ages of 10 and 24 days to investigate the effects of sleep on the cardiovascular and metabolic responses to a decrease in ambient temperature. Each lamb was anesthetized and instrumented for recordings of electrocorticogram, electro-oculogram, and nuchal electromyograms and measurements of cardiac output, systemic and pulmonic pressures and hemoglobin oxygen saturations as well as body core temperature. No sooner than three days after surgery, measurements were made during periods of quiet wakefulness, quiet sleep and active sleep at ambient temperatures of 25 degrees C and 18 degrees C. Decreasing the environmental temperature from 25 degrees C to 18 degrees C elicited a similar thermogenic response during quiet wakefulness, quiet sleep and active sleep as evidenced by an increase in total body oxygen consumption. The increased metabolic oxygen demand was met by an increase in systemic oxygen transport as well as by an increase in total body oxygen extraction. Since shivering was absent during active sleep, it is likely that nonshivering thermogenesis played a major role in the metabolic response. Our data provide evidence that sleep does not significantly alter the cardiovascular and metabolic responses to a modest decrease in ambient temperature in young lambs.  相似文献

Steady-state thermoregulatory responses were measured in the immature rat at 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, and 19 days of age. Tests were conducted at controlled ambient temperatures (Ta) ranging from 22.5 to 37.0 degrees C. Colonic (Tco) and skin (tail, interscapular, abdominal) temperatures were measured, as was O2 consumption from which metabolic rate (M) was calculated. Significant improvements in homeothermic ability occurred from 5 to 19 days of age. Although the resting level of M (RMR) increased by 6.9 W/m2 and the lower Ta limit for RMR (LCT) decreased by 2.5 degrees C as age advanced from 5 to 19 days, Tco at LCT was 36.8-37.1 degrees C at all ages studied. Below LCT the elevation of M to a given decrease in Tco was greater the older the animal. A comparable response to a change in skin temperature was not age dependent. Improvement in thermal insulation was the primary factor responsible for increases in homeothermic ability between 5 and 19 days of age.  相似文献

Mild reductions in ambient temperature dramatically increase the mortality of neonatal mice deficient in pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP), with the majority of animals succumbing in the second postnatal week. During anesthesia-induced hypothermia, PACAP(-/-) mice at this age are also vulnerable to prolonged apneas and sudden death. From these observations, we hypothesized that before the onset of genotype-specific mortality and in the absence of anesthetic, the breathing of PACAP-deficient mice is more susceptible to mild reductions in ambient temperature than wild-type littermates. To test this hypothesis, we recorded breathing in one group of postnatal day 4 PACAP+/+, (+/-), and (-/-) neonates (using unrestrained, flow-through plethysmography) and metabolic rate in a separate group (using indirect calorimetry), both of which were exposed acutely to ambient temperatures slightly below (29 degrees C), slightly above (36 degrees C), or at thermoneutrality (32 degrees C). At 32 degrees C, the breathing frequency of PACAP(-/-) neonates was significantly less than PACAP+/+ littermates. Reducing the ambient temperature to 29 degrees C caused a significant suppression of tidal volume and ventilation in both PACAP+/- and (-/-) animals, while the tidal volume and ventilation of PACAP+/+ animals remained unchanged. Genotype had no effect on the ventilatory responses to ambient warming. At all three ambient temperatures, genotype had no influence on oxygen consumption or body temperature. These results suggest that during mild reductions in ambient temperature, PACAP is vital for the preservation of neonatal tidal volume and ventilation, but not for metabolic rate or body temperature.  相似文献

Aerobic metabolism (oxygen consumption, VO2, and carbon dioxide production, VCO2) has been measured in newborn rats at 2 days of age during normoxia, 30 min of hyperoxia (100% O2) and an additional 30 min of recovery in normoxia at ambient temperatures of 35 degrees C (thermoneutrality) or 30 degrees C. In normoxia, at 30 degrees C VO2 was higher than at 35 degrees C. With hyperoxia, VO2 increased in all cases, but more so at 30 degrees C (+20%) than at 35 degrees C (+9%). Upon return to normoxia, metabolism readily returned to the prehyperoxic value. The results support the concept that the normoxic metabolic rate of the newborn can be limited by the availability of oxygen. At temperatures below thermoneutrality the higher metabolic needs aggravate the limitation in oxygen availability, and the positive effects of hyperoxia on VO2 are therefore more apparent.  相似文献

Our aim was to assess the mechanisms determining the reflex formation of an oral airway in response to nasal obstruction (NO) and tracheal obstruction (TO). In nine conscious lambs (14-37 days old) NO was effected by blockade of nasal tubes; TO was later effected by blockade of an endotracheal tube. We measured arterial O2 saturation, PO2, PCO2, and pH and the depth and duration of inspiratory efforts when mouth opening (MO) occurred. Responses were compared when NO and TO followed breathing of room air, rebreathed air, and 100% O2. After both NO and TO, MO was initiated most rapidly after lambs rebreathed air and least rapidly after they breathed 100% O2. Similar changes in blood gases and pH were measured when MO occurred after air breathing and rebreathing; however, the extent of these changes was greater during TO than during NO. After 100% O2 was breathed, MO occurred when lambs were still hyperoxic, but they were more hypercapnic and acidemic than after breathing air or rebreathed air. There were no differences, related to prebreathed gases or site of airway occlusion, in the depth of inspiratory efforts at the time of MO. We conclude that the formation of an oral airway requires a critical level of inspiratory drive in the presence of airway obstruction. After the prebreathing of different gases, differences in response latency and blood gases at the time of MO can be attributed to the attainment of this threshold level of inspiratory drive. The formation of an oral airway is facilitated by, but not dependent on, receptors in the upper airway.  相似文献

Noradrenaline (10 microgram) injected into the lateral cerebral ventricle of guinea pigs aged 2 to 12 days produced a rapid increase in oxygen consumption and in colonic temperature at an ambient temperature of 30 degrees C. The increase was most pronounced in the youngest animals and decreased with advancing age, but was still significant at 12 days of age. Species differences and the role of ambient temperature in the responses are discussed.  相似文献

The suckling opossum exhibits an expiration-phased discharge in abdominal muscles during positive-pressure breathing (PPB); the response becomes apparent, however, only after the 3rd-5th wk of postnatal life. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the early lack of activation represented a deficiency of segmental outflow to abdominal muscles or whether comparable effects were observed in cranial outflows to muscles of the upper airways due to immaturity of afferent and/or supraspinal pathways. Anesthetized suckling opossums between 15 and 50 days of age were exposed to PPB; electromyogram (EMG) responses in diaphragm and abdominal muscles were measured, along with EMG of larynx dilator muscles and/or upper airway resistance. In animals older than approximately 30 days of age, the onset of PPB was associated with a prolonged expiration-phased EMG activation of larynx dilator muscles and/or decreased upper airway resistance, along with expiratory recruitment of the abdominal muscle EMG. These effects persisted as long as the load was maintained. Younger animals showed only those responses related to the upper airway; in fact, activation of upper airway muscles during PPB could be associated with suppression of the abdominal motor outflow. After unilateral vagotomy, abdominal and upper airway motor responses to PPB were reduced. The balance between PPB-induced excitatory and inhibitory or disfacilitory influences from the supraspinal level on abdominal motoneurons and/or spinal processing of information from higher centers may shift toward net excitation as the opossum matures.  相似文献

Plasma FSH and LH in prepubertal Booroola ewe lambs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Basal plasma concentrations (four 30-min samples) and GnRH-induced release of gonadotrophins were measured every 15 days between 30 and 90 days and at 110 days of age in Merino ewe lambs from the prolific Booroola ('B') flock (n = 18-23), the medium prolificacy ('T') flock (n = 14-20), and the 'O' flock (n = 4-8) of low prolificacy. At ages of 30 and 45 days B ewe lambs had mean basal plasma FSH concentrations of 145 and 122 ng/ml which were significantly higher (P less than 0.01) than those seen in T (45 and 53 ng/ml), and O (39 and 38 ng/ml) flock ewes. Between 60 and 110 days of age there were no significant differences between genotypes. The increment in FSH concentrations above basal levels induced by the subcutaneous injection of 100 micrograms synthetic GnRH was only significantly (P less than 0.05) greater in B than T and O genotype ewe lambs at 110 days of age but not at other ages. The basal plasma FSH differences between the B, T and O genotypes at 30 and 45 days of age were not consistently related to the size of litter in which lambs were born. At 30 days of age the mean plasma LH concentration of B, T, and O flock lambs were 2.6 +/- 0.5, 1.2 +/- 0.6 and 0.7 +/- 0.8 ng/ml respectively. These differences were not significant. At later ages there were also no significant differences between the genotypes with respect to basal LH, and the increase in LH induced by exogenous GnRH was always similar for the three genotypes.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Experiments were carried out to determine the role of nitric oxide in mediating autonomic and behavioral thermoregulatory control in rat pups on postnatal days 1-2, 5-6, and 10-11. For an experiment, each pup received a subcutaneous injection of vehicle, NG-nitro-D-arginine methyl ester (D-NAME; 100 mg/kg), or NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME; 100 mg/kg) before being placed in a metabolic chamber or in a thermocline with a linear temperature gradient of 23 to 43 degrees C. In the metabolic chamber, oxygen consumption and core temperature were measured as ambient temperature was decreased from 40 to 15 degrees C over a 60-min period. Decreasing ambient temperature elicited an increase in oxygen consumption in all age groups that received vehicle or d-NAME. The lower critical temperature and peak oxygen consumption upon exposure to cold after vehicle were 41 +/- 10 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1) at 30 degrees C, 43 +/- 12 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1) at 28 degrees C, and 55 +/- 11 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1) at 25 degrees C in the 1- to 2-, 5- to 6-, and 10- to 11-day-old pups, respectively. Administration of L-NAME abolished the oxygen consumption response to cold in the 1- to 2- and 5- to 6-day-old pups and significantly attenuated the oxygen consumption response to cold in the 10- to 11-day-old pups. Selected ambient temperature in the thermocline was not significantly affected by prior administration of D-NAME or L-NAME compared with vehicle. Thus our data provide evidence that the nitric oxide system plays a role in mediating autonomic but not behavioral thermoregulatory control in rat pups during early postnatal maturation.  相似文献

Metabolic rates, temperature acclimation, lipid deposition and temperature tolerance were investigated in two species of hylid treefrogs, the green treefrog (Hyla cinerea) and the coastal plain (Cope's) gray treefrog (Hyla chrysoscelis). The rate of oxygen consumption at rest differed between the two species only at 30 degrees C; there was no difference in respiratory metabolism at lower ambient temperatures. Hyla cinerea generally completed metabolic acclimation earlier than H. chrysoscelis, particularly at high temperatures; both species appeared to be fully acclimated in 6 days or less. The gray treefrog is less tolerant of high ambient temperatures than the green treefrog; mean upper lethal temperature was 41.5 degrees C for Hyla chrysoscelis and 43.7 degrees C for H. cinerea. Metabolized energy was higher at high ambient temperatures (i.e. 29 degrees C) for H. chrysoscelis than H. cinerea, while the reverse was true at 19 degrees C. The coefficient of utilization (100 X metabolized energy/gross energy intake) did not vary significantly between species or within species over the ambient temperature range of 19-24 degrees C; H. chrysoscelis had a significantly higher efficiency at 29 degrees C. Lipid reserves were generally similar in the two species throughout the summer. Differences in behavior, seasonal variation in activity and timing of reproduction are all related to thermal physiology and may play a role in determining the distributional limits of the two species.  相似文献

Transmural pressure at any level in the upper airway is dependent on the difference between intraluminal airway and extraluminal tissue pressure (ETP). We hypothesized that ETP would be influenced by topography, head and neck position, resistive loading, and stimulated breathing. Twenty-eight male, New Zealand White, anesthetized, spontaneously breathing rabbits breathed via a face mask with attached pneumotachograph to measure airflow and pressure transducer to monitor mask pressure. Tidal volume was measured via integration of the airflow signal. ETP was measured with a pressure transducer-tipped catheter inserted in the tissues of the lateral (ETPlat, n = 28) and anterior (ETPant, n = 21) pharyngeal wall. Head position was controlled at 30, 50, or 70 degrees, and the effect of addition of an external resistor, brief occlusion, or stimulated breathing was examined. Mean ETPlat was approximately 0.7 cmH2O greater than mean ETPant when adjusted for degree of head and neck flexion (P < 0.05). Mean, maximum, and minimum ETP values increased significantly by 0.7-0.8 cmH2O/20 degrees of head and neck flexion when adjusted for site of measurement (P < 0.0001). The main effect of resistive loading and occlusion was an increase in the change in ETPlat (maximum - minimum ETPlat) and change in ETPant at all head and neck positions (P < 0.05). Mean ETPlat and ETPant increased with increasing tidal volume at head and neck position of 30 degrees (all P < 0.05). In conclusion, ETP was nonhomogeneously distributed around the upper airway and increased with both increasing head and neck flexion and increasing tidal volume. Brief airway occlusion increased the size of respiratory-related ETP fluctuations in upper airway ETP.  相似文献

To assess the range of functional responses of the ventilatory apparatus of developing rats and the degree to which ventilatory function is developed in advance of other functional characteristics, rat pups at five ages (between 4 and 20 days old) were exposed to temperatures of 28, 32 and 36 degrees C while in a flow through metabolic chamber modified to serve as a whole body plethysmograph. Ventilatory frequency, tidal volume and oxygen extraction 'efficiency' (EO2 = VO2/FEO2 x VI) were measured at each age and temperature. Mean breathing frequency at 4 days old was 2.56 breaths per second, decreasing to 1.99 at 20 days old. There was insignificant modification of breathing frequency with temperature. Four day old rat pups at 28 degrees C had mass specific tidal volumes of 0.017 ml/g, 142% of the value at 36 degrees C (0.012 ml/g). Twenty day old pups at 28 degrees C had mass specific tidal volumes of 0.027 ml/g, also 142% of the thermoneutral value (0.019 ml/g at 32 degrees C). At all ages, increases in tidal volumes were similar and increases in tidal volume were the only response to increased metabolic demand. Oxygen extraction 'efficiency' was about half that previously observed in adult rodents. These observations of ventilation during a cold challenge suggest that although structural development is not complete until much later, functional development is sufficient, either at birth or shortly thereafter.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to measure the neonate's response to CO-induced hypoxia in the first 10 days of life. CO breathing was used to induce hypoxia because CO causes tissue hypoxia with no or minimal chemoreceptor stimulation. An inspired gas mixture of 0.25 to 0.5% CO in air was used to raise the blood carboxyhemoglobin (HbCO) progressively from 0 to 60% over approximately 20 min. The study, conducted in awake conscious lambs aged 2 and 10 days, consisted in measuring the response of ventilation and the change in arterial blood gases during the rise of HbCO. The results showed that the 2- and 10-day-old lambs tolerated very high HbCO levels without an increase in minute ventilation (VE) and without metabolic acidosis. At both ages, HbCO caused no VE change until HbCO levels rose to between 45 and 50% after which the VE change was exponential in some animals but minimal in others. The VE change was brought about by a rise in tidal volume and respiratory frequency. During the period of maturation from 2 to 10 days, there was a small shift to the right in the VE-HbCO response. In the 10-day-old lambs the VE response to high HbCO was greater than that of the 2-day-olds because of the lambs' higher respiratory frequency response. Six of the 10-day-old lambs but only two of the 2-day-old lambs showed a hypoxic tachypnea to HbCO of 55-65%. None of the lambs developed periodic breathing, dysrhythmic breathing, or recurrent apneas with an HbCO level as high as 60%.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

We tested the hypothesis that the continuous breathing response to oxygen or oxygen plus umbilical cord occlusion, in the fetal sheep, could be modified by gestational age or labour. We studied 35 chronically instrumented fetal sheep on 84 occasions during late gestation (124 to 141 days), using our window model (Rigatto, 1984). After a resting cycle (1 low-voltage followed by 1 high-voltage electrocortical activity epoch), the fetal lung was distended via an endotracheal tube using mean airway pressure of about 30 cm H2O. Inspired nitrogen, and 100% O2 were given to the fetus during one cycle each. While on 100% O2 the umbilical cord was occluded using a balloon cuff. We found that: (1) the continuous breathing response to 100% O2 occurring in 8% of the experiments at a gestational age less than 130 days, in 25% from 130 to 134 days and in 45% at gestational ages greater than 134 days (P < 0.01); (2) at similar gestational age intervals the breathing responses to umbilical cord occlusion were 67%, 84%, and 100% (P < 0.01); and (3) in the presence of labour, 45% of the experiments responded to O2 with continuous breathing as compared to 23% in the absence of labour (P < 0.01). Cord occlusion did not affect these values. Because the highest PaO2 achieved increased significantly to 128 days but not thereafter it is unlikely that these results can be explained on the basis of an increase in PaO2 alone. We speculate that there is an age related maturation of the inhibition of breathing normally present in the fetus.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Sleep-disordered breathing is frequently associated with children presenting congenital midface defects. Because of structural and functional anomalies in the upper airway, children with cleft palate, especially after surgery, may carry a higher risk of developing sleep-disordered breathing. However, the presence of such sleep-disordered breathing in older cleft palate children has not been emphasized. The aim of this comparative overnight cardiorespiratory sleep study was to evaluate cleft palate patients according to sleep-disordered breathing. A group of 43 cleft palate children (17 girls and 26 boys; mean age, 12.1 +/- 3.8 years) was compared with a control group of 20 randomly selected, noncleft children matched for age, sex, and body mass index. None of the patients suffered from manifest sleep-disordered breathing. Cleft palate patients had a statistically significantly higher respiratory disturbance index and snoring index, but no increased apnea index. The data suggest that cleft palate patients having undergone primary closure of the palate demonstrate microsymptoms of nocturnal upper airway obstruction.  相似文献

Thermoregulatory capacities of 51 reindeer calves (Rangifer tarandus tarandus L.) aged 1-35 days were studied at -26.5 to +35.0 degrees C ambient temperatures at Kaamanen reindeer research station, Finland (69 degrees 10' N) during calving periods in May 1981 and May-July 1982. The newborn calves aged 1-4 days maintained a high body temperature (Tre) (mean +40.2 degrees C) even at the lowest experimental temperature of -22.5 degrees C by increasing their metabolic rate five-fold above the level at +11.0 degrees C. Heat production of the new-born calves was largely based on the metabolism of brown adipose tissue, stimulated by cold-induced discharge of the sympathetic nervous transmitter, noradrenaline (NA). Sensitivity of the calves to exogenous NA disappeared during the first 3-4 weeks of life. Thermal conductance of the calves was low at low ambient temperatures, but rose strongly as Ta increased above +10 degrees C. The extensive peripheral cooling, especially in the feet, was demonstrated in the calves aged 1-10 days. The lowest foot temperature (+10.5 degrees C) was measured in a 4-day-old calf at -14.5 degrees C. Slight shivering thermogenesis was recorded in the calves aged 1-4 days and occasionally in the older calves at low values of Ta. Shivering appears to be a reserve mechanism against severe cold. At about +20 degrees C and above the calves increased their Tre (approximately 1 degree C), oxygen consumption and heart rate. In the newborn calves oxygen consumption rose four- to five-fold and in 1-month-old calves about two-fold. Fast growing calves (maximum 400 g/day) appear to be more stressed by heat than by cold exposure.  相似文献

We examined the hypothesis that exogenous stimulation with physiological doses of 3,5,3'-triiodothyronine (T(3)) and/or norepinephrine at birth can improve thermoregulation in near-term lambs delivered by cesarean section. This was achieved by investigating the effect of delivery temperature [i.e., warm (30( degrees )C) vs. cool (15( degrees )C) ambient temperatures] on hormonal stimulation on uncoupling protein-1 (UCP1) abundance in brown adipose tissue. In vivo measurements of temperature control (i. e., colonic temperature, oxygen consumption, and incidence of shivering) were made over the first 2.5 h after birth. Each lamb was injected with saline with or without T(3), norepinephrine, or T(3) plus norepinephrine. Irrespective of delivery temperature, abundance of UCP1 increased and incidence of shivering decreased by all hormonal treatments, but this only reduced the rate of decline in colonic temperature of cool-delivered lambs. Oxygen consumption was higher in cool-delivered lambs that were able to fully restore body temperature, an adaptation not observed in controls or any warm-delivered groups. Exogenous administration of endocrine stimulatory factors can enhance the abundance of UCP1 in cesarean-section-delivered lambs with the magnitude of thermoregulatory response being greater at cool than warm delivery temperatures.  相似文献

Thirty Finn X German-Mutton Merino ewe-lambs (6 born in May, 10 in November and 14 in February) were artificially reared in individual pens. Uniformity of growth was attempted by limiting dietary intake to predetermined ratios of body weight. At the age of 35, 56, 77 and 90 days each lamb was given two i.v. injections of 30 μg of synthetic analog of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) each at an 80-min interval. Blood samples were collected consecutively for 200 min. Differences between individual prepubertal lambs accounted for 69.4%, 46.8%, and 37.5% of the variability of the LH response to GnRH in the May-, November- and February-born lambs, respectively. There were no significant differences in mean plasma LH concentration between lambs born in different months. However, at the ages of 77 and 90 days there was an age X season interaction and the November-born lambs had significantly lower mean plasma LH concentration at 90 days than did those born in May or February. Repeatabilities of the plasma LH response within the age range of 70–90 days were 0.86, 0.90 and 0.94 in the May, November and February lambs, respectively. Furthermore, coefficients of concordance for the ranking of the lambs between the age of 77 and 90 days were 1.00, 0.98 and 0.97. Indications obtained to show that prepubertal LH level correlated with post-pubertal reproduction traits suggest that they could eventually become useful in the future as an aid to selection.  相似文献
