In three phenotypic forms (parrs, trout form, and kumzha form) of fish-farm Black Sea trout (age 1+) and wild Black Sea trout (age 1+ and 2+), Salmo trutta labrax, inhabiting the basin of the Mzymta River, the content of monoamines (dopamine, noradrenalin, and serotonin) and of their metabolites (3,4-dihydroxyindolacetic acid, 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenyl glycol, and 5-hydroxyindolacetic acid) was investigated in brain regions (forebrain, optic tectum, brainstem, hypothalamus, and hypophysis) and the level of cortisol, thyroxin, triiodothyronine, growth hormone, and adrenocorticotropic hormone was investigated in blood. Data on length and weight of fish body and maturation stage of gonads are indicated. The hormonal level differs in the fish of different phenotypic forms. It is the highest in specimens of the kumzha form which completed parr-smolt transformation. Among wild fish, numerous mature females at age 1+ were found which indicated the presence of a dwarf form of the Black Sea trout in the Caucasus in the Mzymta River.  相似文献

Populations of brown trout in the Mzymta River and its tributaries include anadromous (mainly female) and resident (mainly males) fish. Some resident males in the basin of the Mzymty River attain sexual maturity at the age 1+, and resident females mature at the age 2+ or 3+. The maximum age of resident fish is 4+ in the samples studied. Migrations of anadromous brown trout to the sea occur at the ages 1+, 2+, or 3+. Future spawners spend from 1 to 4 years at feeding grounds in the sea. Smolts of the population are characterized by performing not only spring but also autumn migrations to the sea. One smolt specimen has been detected upstream from the dam in the river where spawners of anadromous brown trout do not migrate; this means that the capability for sea migrations persists long in the population represented only by resident specimens of brown trout. The diversity of life cycles and ecological forms in populations of brown trout is not lower than in populations of brown trout in Northern and Western Europe. The comparison of the data obtained with published data makes it possible to come to the conclusion about the high plasticity of ontogenesis of Black Sea brown trout.  相似文献

Current taxonomy of western Eurasian trout leaves a number of questions open; it is not clear to what extent some species are distinct genetically and morphologically. The purpose of this paper was to explore phylogeography and species boundaries in freshwater and anadromous trout from the drainages of the Black and the Caspian Seas (Ponto‐Caspian). We studied morphology and mitochondrial phylogeny, combining samples from the western Caucasus within the potential range of five nominal species of trout that are thought to inhabit this region, and using the sequences available from GenBank. Our results suggest that the genetic diversity of trout in the Ponto‐Caspian region is best explained with the fragmentation of catchments. (1) All trout species from Ponto‐Caspian belong to the same mitochondrial clade, separated from the other trout since the Pleistocene; (2) the southeastern Black Sea area is the most likely place of diversification of this clade, which is closely related to the clades from Anatolia; (3) The species from the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea drainages are monophyletic; (4) except for the basal lineage of the Ponto‐Caspian clade, Salmo rizeensis, all the lineages produce anadromous forms; (5) genetic diversification within the Ponto‐Caspian clade is related to Pleistocene glacial waves; (6) the described morphological differences between the species are not fully diagnostic, and some earlier described differences depend on body size; the differences between freshwater and marine forms exceed those between the different lineages. We suggest a conservative taxonomic approach, using the names S. rizeensis and Salmo labrax for trout from the Black Sea basin and Salmo caspius and Salmo ciscaucasicus for the fish from the Caspian basin.  相似文献

The study focuses on the phylogenetic origin and genetic diversity of brown trout in the eastern part of the Balkan Peninsula. It further aims to reveal the impact of human-mediated transfers and stocking with non-indigenous trout on the populations in this area. For these purposes, mtDNA control region and microsatellite variation of 204 individuals from 16 populations were analysed. The results indicate that mtDNA haplotypes from the lower Danube basin and southern Black Sea basins differ substantially from a subclade of the Danubian lineage consisting of haplotypes found so far in the most of the Danube basin and in the Caspian and Aral Sea basins. Considering also the results of demographic analyses, this study evidences a complex evolutionary history of brown trout in the southern and western parts of the Black Sea basin. In the Aegean Sea basin, a high frequency of the central haplotype of Adriatic mtDNA lineage has been found. The other Adriatic lineage haplotypes found in this basin differ from the central haplotype by one mutational step only, indicating a recent evolution of the Adriatic lineage in the Aegean Sea basin. Substantial genetic differentiation among populations and basins was revealed. The hybridization with Atlantic brown trout was indicated in both sea basins, but especially in the Danube basin. Compared to other European regions, it can be inferred that the introgression of exogenous brown trout in the eastern Balkan populations is rather low.  相似文献

Cytological state of gonads and hormonal status was studied in juvenile (15-month-old) Black Sea trout Salmo trutta labrax of the two phenotypic forms (resident and migratory). The differences in the rates of hametogenesis in the compared forms were revealed. It is shown that the spermatogenesis in the resident form is more intensive; on the other hand, the ovogenesis is slower. The levels of thyroxin and testosterone in blood are significantly higher in the groups of fish with intensively running gametogenesis. It is found that the concentration of triiodothyronine is slightly slower in the resident form than in the migratory. The correlation between levels of thyroid and sex steroid hormones is revealed.  相似文献

Stocking can be an effective management and conservation tool, but it also carries the danger of eroding natural population structure, introducing non-native strains and reducing genetic diversity. Sea trout, the anadromous form of the brown trout (Salmo trutta), is a highly targeted species that is often managed by stocking. Here, we assess the present-day population genetic structure of sea trout in a backdrop of 125 years of stocking in Northern Germany. The study area is characterized by short distances between the Baltic and North Sea river watersheds, historic use of fish from both watersheds for stocking, and the creation of a potential migration corridor between the Baltic and North Sea with the opening of the Kiel Canal 120 years ago. A survey of 24 river systems with 180 SNPs indicates that moderate but highly significant population genetic structure has persisted both within and between the Baltic and North Sea. This genetic structure is characterized by (i) heterogeneous patterns of admixture between the Baltic and North Sea that do not correlate with distance from the Kiel Canal and are therefore likely due to historic stocking practises, (ii) genetic isolation by distance in the Baltic Sea at a spatial scale of <?200 km that is consistent with the homing behaviour of sea trout, and (iii) at least one genetically distinct Baltic Sea river system. In light of these results, we recommend keeping fish of North Sea and Baltic Sea origin separate for stocking, and restricting Baltic Sea translocations to neighbouring river systems.  相似文献

Dunlin migration in northeast Italy is described. An attempt to identify the main routes and staging areas used by birds wintering in the central Mediterranean is presented. The results of monthly counts from 1990–1995 revealed that the bulk of the population occupied the wintering area in October and left for the breeding grounds in April and May. The analysis of 342 Italian recoveries of foreign ringed birds showed that 65% were ringed during post-breeding migration through the Baltic Sea, whereas just a few birds had been ringed in western Europe. First-year birds arrived in autumn with a single migratory wave, peaking in October. Two categories of adults were identified during post-breeding migration: birds which directly reached Italian wintering sites and birds which arrived after they had suspended their migration for moulting: the Azov/Black Sea wetlands are suggested as possible moulting areas. Out of 2444 adults and 1627 first-years ringed between 1989 and 1996 at our study area, we obtained a total of 42 recoveries abroad and evidence of direct links between Azov/Black Sea and N Adriatic wetlands, both during autumn and spring migrations. Primary moult was observed only in adults arriving early, the second migratory wave being composed of moulted birds. Locally moulting adults adopted a moult strategy characterized by high raggedness scores, typical of resident moulters. Body mass was not affected by primary moult stage or intensity, winter mass values being reached two weeks after the average date of primary moult completion.  相似文献

Chum salmon Oncorhynchus keta from the Tugur River of Khabarovsk krai was studied. It was found that, in the river basin, chum salmon of two ecological groups reproduces: the first spawns at river sections with a pronounced underflow and the second spawns at river sections with a groundwater outlet. In the first anadromous migration, usually three maxima of the number of approaches of migrating fish are observed. The first in time maximum is represented by early (or summer) chum salmon, the second includes migrants of early and late (or autumn) form, and the third is represented by chum salmon of only late form. Forms of chum salmon from the Tugur River basin different in dates of the run and the spawning sites differ not only in the ecology of reproduction but also in biological indices. The later chum salmon is larger; its gonads at entry into the river for spawning are less mature as compared with early chum salmon. The autumn form of chum salmon reproducing at key spawning grounds is distributed more widely than the summer form. It is found along the Asian coast from Chukotka in the north to Japan and Korea in the south. Summer chum salmon occupies only part of the range of the autumn form.  相似文献

This study describes otolith marking of brown trout (Salmo trutta L.) larvae by immersion in different solutions of alizarin red S (ARS). The best results were obtained after marking with ARS at a concentration of 150 mg L?1. To evaluate the efficiency of stocking with brown trout fry, 10 000 20‐day‐old larvae were marked in years 2002 and 2003 with ARS and released 2 weeks later into sections of a river with natural brown trout reproduction. Electro‐fishing surveys carried out 2 months after stocking in 2002 revealed that only 4.8% of all caught young‐of‐the‐year trout originated from stocking; in 2003 the percentage was 8.9%. Based on the substantial natural reproduction and the low ratio of stocked to wild trout, it was recommended to discontinue stocking.  相似文献

For conserving the unique representative of salmonids—the Black Sea salmon Salmo trutta labrax—its hatchery rearing was initiated in 1998 at the Adler trout hatchery farm (Northern Caucasia). Fish were kept in concrete tanks. The comparative assessment of hatchery-reared fish and salmon from natural populations revealed their similarity by dates of the onset of smoltification, ratio of spawners maturing at different ages, and the weight, sizes, and fecundity of females. The quality of sexual products and progeny obtained from spawners of the initial brood stock was high. The data obtained indicate that the method of hatchery rearing the Black Sea salmon is promising.  相似文献

In the Kol basin, one of the typical salmon rivers of Western Kamchatka, special traits of reproduction ecology of masu salmon Oncorhynchus masou are studied (characteristics and behavior of spawners during spawning, localization of spawning grounds, topography and hydrology of redds, and interaction with other species of salmonids). The masu salmon spawns in the Kol basin in tributaries of the upper reaches of the river and only in downwelling. Spawning grounds of masu samlmon are confined to stretches with overhanging banks, log jams creating shelters for spawners and favorable hydrological conditions for spawning and egg development. All over its range, masu salmon requires similar conditions for reproduction. In the north of its range, in Kamchatka, masu salmon retains the properties of the most warm-water species in the genus Oncorhynchus and selects for spawning the grounds characterized by the highest temperature in the period of spawning and development.  相似文献

The invasive ctenophore Mnemiopsis leidyi was accidentally introduced into the Black Sea in the early 1980s and it was first sighted in the Aegean Sea (Eastern Mediterranean) in the early 1990s. This article presents a first attempt to develop a predictive spatial model based on M. leidyi presence data and satellite environmental data from the Aegean Sea during early summer, in order to identify those areas in the Greek Seas and the entire Mediterranean basin that could serve as potential habitat for the species. Generalized additive models (GAM) were applied. The final GAM model indicated higher probability of finding M. leidyi present in depths of 65–135 m and sea surface temperature values of 21–25°C. Furthermore, the significant interaction between photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) and sea level anomaly (SLA) indicated a higher probability of M. leidyi presence in low values of PAR and SLA. In the next step, the final GAM was applied in a prediction grid of mean monthly satellite values for June 2004–2006 in order to estimate probability of M. leidyi presence in the Hellenic Seas and the whole Mediterranean basin at a GIS resolution of 4 km. In the Aegean Sea, species potential habitat included areas influenced by the Black Sea Water (e.g. Thracian Sea, Limnos-Imvros plateau), gulfs that are affected by river runoffs, such as the Thermaikos, Strymonikos and Patraikos gulfs, or areas with strong anthropogenic influence such as the Saronikos gulf. Areas with the same environmental conditions as those in Aegean Sea have been indicated in certain spots of the Levantine Sea as well as in coastal waters of Egypt and Libya, although their spatial extent varied largely among years examined. However, the occurrence of conditions that are linked to high probability of M. leidyi presence does not necessarily mean that these areas can support successful reproduction, high population or bloom levels, since these depend on a combination of temperature, salinity, food availability and the abundance of predators. The lucrative and highly migratory Atlantic bluefin tuna, Thunnus thynnus (Linnaeus 1758; Scombridae), used to be distributed widely throughout the north Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea and Black Sea. Its migrations have supported sustainable fisheries and impacted local cultures since antiquity, but its biogeographic range has contracted since the 1950s. Most recently, the species disappeared from the Black Sea in the late 1980s and has not yet recovered. Reasons for the Black Sea disappearance, and the species-wide range contraction, are unclear. However bluefin tuna formerly foraged and possibly spawned in the Black Sea. Loss of a locally-reproducing population would represent a decline in population richness, and an increase in species vulnerability to perturbations such as exploitation and environmental change. Here we identify the main genetic and phenotypic adaptations that the population must have (had) in order to reproduce successfully in the specific hydrographic (estuarine) conditions of the Black Sea. By comparing hydrographic conditions in spawning areas of the three species of bluefin tunas, and applying a mechanistic model of egg buoyancy and sinking rate, we show that reproduction in the Black Sea must have required specific adaptations of egg buoyancy, fertilisation and development for reproductive success. Such adaptations by local populations of marine fish species spawning in estuarine areas are common as is evident from a meta-analysis of egg buoyancy data from 16 species of fish. We conclude that these adaptations would have been necessary for successful local reproduction by bluefin tuna in the Black Sea, and that a locally-adapted reproducing population may have disappeared. Recovery of bluefin tuna in the Black Sea, either for spawning or foraging, will occur fastest if any remaining locally adapted individuals are allowed to survive, and by conservation and recovery of depleted Mediterranean populations which could through time re-establish local Black Sea spawning and foraging.  相似文献

The diversity of life strategies and population structure of Kamchatka mykiss Parasalmo mykiss in the ecosystems of small salmon rivers of various types are considered. Hydrogeomorphological differences of the model rivers Kol and Kekhta are found. The preferred habitats are investigated, and their area is determined. It is shown that, in the Kol River, the mykiss having a resident life strategy predominated, and in the Kekhta River—the mykiss with migratory strategy. The key parameter controlling the prevalence of life strategies in each river is the ratio of the area of spawning grounds to the area of feeding grounds and their productivity. The hypothesis is confirmed that, in complex river systems, due to the diversity of biotopes and a higher productivity, the food resources are sufficient for maturation of mykiss and for realization of the resident life strategy (without migration to the sea for feeding). In small rivers of the channel type with their insufficient food resources, the specimens having a migratory life strategy prevail.  相似文献

Significant variations in four biological measures of water quality with stream order and river basin were demonstrated for streams of the Black and Osage river basins of Missouri. Water quality criteria specific for each order and basin were then developed.Benthic macroinvertebrates from springs and stream orders 3–8 in the two river basins were sampled quarterly for one year with riffle nets and artificial substrate samplers. A total of 548 samples were taken at 137 stations. The average annual macroinvertebrate density, index of diversity, number of taxa, and number of mayfly and stonefly taxa were determined for each station. These measures showed significant differences (p < 0.05) across stream order within and between the two river basins. Total taxa, total mayfly and stonefly taxa, and diversity were highest in orders 4 and 5 with decreased values in lower and higher stream orders. Maximum organism densities occurred in intermediate order streams. These differences were attributed to the succession of physical changes from headwaters to mouth within each river and to the unique geomorphology of each catchment basin.Water quality criteria based on three of the four measures described above (with 95% confidence limits) were established for each stream order in each river basin. Criteria for the Osage River basin were then used to identify three streams in the basin affected by environmental disturbances (stream impoundment, channelization and sewage discharge). The use of order- and basin-specific criteria assures that the biological differences between streams caused by environmental disturbance can be distinguished from the natural biological differences between streams of different orders and drainages.  相似文献

Sea trout (Salmo trutta m. trutta) is a migratory form of brown trout common in the Baltic Sea. Nine populations from the southeast Baltic (Poland; Lithuania; Denmark, Bornholm; Estonia and Russia) were genotyped using iPLEX Gold technology (Sequenom) with 62 informative SNPs. A diagnostic panel of 23 SNPs was applied to estimate genetic differentiation and assess the population structure of Baltic sea trout. The highest level of pairwise FST differences was observed between the Russian (East Gulf of Finland) and Polish (Baltic main basin) populations. The lowest differences were between the two Polish and the Polish and Lithuanian populations. A genetic similarity was noted between the Estonian Riguldi River and Danish Bornholm populations, and this finding was supported by a Bayesian and factorial correspondence analysis. Diversity within populations was highest for populations from Estonia and lowest for the Lithuanian population. Genetic structure analysis indicated that individuals from the nine populations were clustered into four groups.  相似文献

Data obtained during 1979–2005 on the natural reproduction of stellate sturgeon Acipenser stellatus and water level in the Volga River were analyzed. The relationship between the number of stellate sturgeon larvae migrating down the river, flow quantity during the summer period of low water and the number of spawners entering spawning grounds was shown. Fish productivity of spawning grounds located in the river channel in different zones of the Lower Volga was estimated. Recommendations are presented concerning the increase in the level of stellate sturgeon natural reproduction in the lower pool of the Volgograd hydrosystem.  相似文献

Using the phylogeographic framework, we assessed the DNA sequence variation at the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene across the distribution range of the barbel Barbus barbus, a widely distributed European cyprinid. Reciprocal monophyly of non-Mediterranean European and Balkan/Anatolian populations is taken as evidence for a long-term barrier to gene flow, and interpreted as a consequence of survival of the species in two separate refugia during several later glacial cycles. Lack of profound genealogical divergence across Europe from western France to the northwestern Black Sea basin is consistent with recent colonization of this area from a single glacial refuge, which was probably located in the Danube River basin. This may have occurred in two steps: into the Western European river basins during the last interglacial, and throughout the Central European river basins after the last glacial. The populations from the Balkans and Anatolia apparently did not contribute mitochondrial DNA to the post-Pleistocene colonization of non-Mediterranean Europe. Lack of detectable variation within the Balkans/Anatolia is attributed mainly to recent expansion throughout these regions, facilitated by the freshwater conditions and seashore regression in the Black Sea during the Late Pleistocene and Early Holocene.  相似文献

Aim Hidden diversity within an invasive ‘species’ can mask both invasion pathways and confound management goals. We assessed taxonomic status and population structure of the monkey goby Neogobius fluviatilis across Eurasia, comparing genetic variation across its native and invasive ranges. Location Native populations were analysed within the Black and Caspian Sea basins, including major river drainages (Dnieper, Dniester, Danube, Don and Volga rivers), along with introduced locations within the upper Danube and Vistula river systems. Methods DNA sequences and 10 nuclear microsatellite loci were analysed to test genetic diversity and divergence patterns of native and introduced populations; phylogenetic analysis of mtDNA cytochrome b and nuclear RAG‐1 sequences assessed taxonomic status of Black and Caspian Sea lineages. Multivariate analysis of morphology was used to corroborate phylogenetic patterns. Population genetic structure within each basin was evaluated with mtDNA and microsatellite data using FST analogues and Bayesian assignment tests. Results Phylogenetic analysis of mitochondrial and nuclear sequences discerned a pronounced genetic break between monkey gobies in the Black and Caspian Seas, indicating a long‐term species‐level separation dating to c. 3 million years. This pronounced separation further was confirmed from morphological and population genetic divergence. Bayesian inference showed congruent patterns of population structure within the Black Sea basin. Introduced populations in the Danube and Vistula River basins traced to north‐west Black Sea origins, a genetic expansion pattern matching that of other introduced Ponto‐Caspian gobiids. Main conclusions Both genetic and morphological data strongly supported two species of monkey gobies that were formerly identified as subspecies: N. fluviatilis in the Black Sea basin, Don and Volga Rivers, and the Kumo‐Manych Depression, and Neogobius pallasi in the Caspian Sea and Volga River delta. Genetic origins of introduced N. fluviatilis populations indicated a common invasion pathway shared with other introduced Ponto‐Caspian fishes and invertebrates.  相似文献
