The purpose of this study was to evaluate the immediate influence of eccentric muscle action on vertical jump performance in athletes performing sports with a high demand of explosive force development. In this randomized, controlled crossover trial, 13 Swiss elite athletes (national team members in ski jump, ski alpine, snowboard freestyle and alpine, ski freestyle, and gymnastics) with a mean age of 22 years (range 20-28) were randomized into 2 groups. After a semistandardized warm-up, group 1 did 5 jumps from a height of 60 cm, landing with active stabilization in 90 degrees knee flexion. One minute after these modified drop jumps, they performed 3 single squat jumps (SJ) and 3 single countermovement jumps (CMJ) on a force platform. The athletes repeated the procedure after 1 hour without the modified drop jumps. In a crossover manner, group 2 did the first warm-up without and the second warm-up with the modified drop jumps. Differences of the performance (jump height and maximal power) between the different warm-ups were the main outcomes. The mean absolute power and absolute height (without drop jumps) were CMJ 54.9 W.kg(-1) (SD = 4.1), SJ 55.0 W.kg(-1) (SD = 5.1), CMJ 44.1 cm (SD = 4.1), and SJ 40.8 cm (SD = 4.1). A consistent tendency for improvement with added drop jumps to the warm-up routine was observed compared with warm-up without drop jumps: maximal power CMJ +1.02 W.kg(-1) (95% confidence interval [CI] = +0.03 to +2.38), p = 0.045; maximal power SJ +0.8 W.kg(-1) (95% CI = -0.34 to +2.02), p = 0.148; jump height CMJ +0.48 cm (95% CI = -0.26 to +1.2), p = 0.182; SJ +0.73 cm (95% CI = -0.36 to +1.18), p = 0.169. Athletes could add modified drop jumps to the warm-up before competitions to improve explosive force development.  相似文献

In studies of physical performance comprising muscle strength and power, a vertical jump is a test method that frequently is used. It is important to have access to accurate measuring tools providing data with high reproducibility. Studies have shown that body composition also may play an important part in physical performance. The purpose of this study was to determine test-retest reliability for 3 different kinds of vertical jumps and to correlate jump height with body composition. Thirty-four normally trained subjects (women n = 17) between 18 and 25 years participated. Test-retest, on 3 kinds of vertical jumps, was performed with a median of 7 days between jumps. Methods used were a countermovement jump (CMJ) on a contact mat, with and without arm swing, and an Abalakow jump (AJ) using measuring tape, with arm swing. Body composition was assessed with the use of bioelectric impedance analysis. The results showed that high intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were observed between testing occasions for all 3 vertical jumps (ICC between 0.48 and 0.88). The AJ in women presented the lowest ICC. Also the correlation between CMJ and AJ was high (rs = 0.88). Moderate-to-high correlations could be shown between body composition and CMJ in women (rs = -0.57-0.76). In conclusion, very high test-retest reliability for CMJ on a contact mat was found. For the AJ using a measuring tape, ICC were overall high, but a moderate nonsignificant ICC were found in women, indicating poor reproducibility. The data from the CMJ and AJ may be compared if approximately 25% of the AJ value is subtracted. In practice, this means that vertical jump tests have high reproducibility and can be used as measures of power development.  相似文献

The purpose of the study was to provide practical suggestions on the effect of stretching on the maximal anaerobic power preceded by active or passive warm-up. To this aim, 15 relatively fit male subjects (age 23 +/- 0.2 years, height 177 +/- 2 cm, body mass 74 +/- 2 kg; [mean +/- SE]) randomly performed a series of squat jumps (SJ) and countermovement jumps (CMJ). Jumps were preceded alternatively by: i) passive stretching of lower limbs muscles; ii) active warm-up (AWU); iii) passive warm up (PWU); and iv) the joining of stretching with either active warm-up (AWU+S) or passive warm-up (PWU+S). In control conditions (C) only jumps were required. For the 2 jumps the flight time (Ft), the peak force (Pf), and the maximal power (Wpmax) were calculated. It resulted that Ft, Pf, and Wmax values were significantly higher: i) after AWU than after PWU and PWU+S in CMJ; and ii) in AWU as compared to those of other protocols of SJ. Stretching did not negatively affect the maximal anaerobic power, per se, but seems to inhibit the effect of AWU. The results suggested that AWU seemed to increase vertical jump performance when compared to PWU, presumably due to an increase in metabolic activity as a consequence of AWU, which did not occur in PWU, despite the same skin temperature. Passive stretching alone seemed not to negatively influence vertical jump performance, whereas, if added after AWU, could reduce the power output.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to compare bilateral and unilateral hurdle jumps with traditional countermovement jumps (CMJs). Thirteen athletes were tested during continuous forward bilateral and unilateral hurdle jumps and single CMJ. Countermovement jump height was used to establish the hurdle height. Subjects jumped forward over 4 hurdles with the force plate positioned after the second hurdle to measure vertical ground reaction force (VGRF), contact time (CT), and rate of force development (RFD). For bilateral jumps, hurdle height was established at maximal (100%) CMJ height and at 120, 140, and 160% of the CMJ height. The athletes were instructed to jump as fast as possible to mimic a training session drill. For unilateral jumps, hurdle height was set at 70, 80, and 90% of the CMJ height. Bilateral 160% jumps showed a significantly longer CT than bilateral 100, 120, and 140% jumps. The bilateral 100, 120, and 140% jumps had significantly shorter CT than the unilateral jumps and CMJ. The VGRF during bilateral jumps was higher than unilateral jumps and CMJ. Bilateral 160% jump RFD was significantly higher than CMJ and unilateral jumps but significantly lower than the other bilateral jumps. In conclusion, the characteristics of the bilateral jumps were substantially different from those of the CMJ and unilateral hurdle jumps. As bilateral hurdle jumps with a height between 100 and 140% of the CMJ provide similar CTs and VGRF as many reported sprint or jump actions, they may be considered a more training-specific power training drill than the CMJ.  相似文献

The purpose of this investigation was to determine the concurrent validity of a commonly used electronic switch mat (ESM), or jump mat, compared with force plate (FP) data. The efficiency of collection and accuracy of data are paramount to athlete and player field testing for the strength and conditioning coach who often has access only to a jump mat. Ten subjects from 5 different sporting backgrounds completed 3 squat jumps (SJs), 3 countermovement jumps (CMJs), and 3 drop jumps (DJs). The jumps were performed on an AMTI FP operating at 1,000 Hz with an ESM positioned on top of the platform. All the subjects were experienced with the protocols involved with jump testing. The resulting absolute errors between FP and ESM data were 0.01, 0.02, and 0.01 m for CMJ, SJ, and DJ heights, respectively. However, the coefficient of variation for the DJ contact time (CT) was 57.25%, CMJ (r = 0.996), and SJ (r = 0.958) heights correlated very strongly with force platform data, and DJ data were not as strong (r = 0.683). Confidence interval tests revealed bias toward CMJ and SJ (p < 0.05). The jump mat can accurately calculate the CMJ height, SJ height, and reactive strength index for all the 3 jump protocols. However, the faster CTs and rapid movements involved in a DJ may limit its reliability when giving measures of CT, flight time, and height jumped for DJs. Strength and conditioning coaches can use such a jump mat device with the confidence that it is accurately producing valid measurements of their athlete's performance for CMJ and SJ slow SSC protocols.  相似文献

The electrophoretic mobility of L5178Y cells in 0.0145 M NaCl, 4.5% sorbitol, 0.6 mM NaHCO3, pH 7.2, at 25°C was — 1.78 μ·s?1·V?1·cm?1 while that of an L-asparaginase resistant subline, L5178Y/ASN, was — 1.11 μm·s?1·V?1·cm?1. Both cell lines were characterized by terminal sialic acid residues on their surfaces. Treatment of L5178Y cells for 90 min with 10 units of L-asparaginase per ml in saline decreased the electrophoretic mobility of the cells to — 1.65 μm·s?1·V?1·cm?1 while treatment in Fischer's medium decreased the mobility to — 1.25 μm·s?1·V?1·cm?1; neither treatment had a significant effect on the L5178Y/ASN electrophoretic mobility. The results suggest that L-asparaginase has an immediate and specific effect on synthesis of cell surface asparaginyl glycoproteins.  相似文献

Noscoc flagelliforme is a terrestrial macroscopic cyanobacterium with high economic value. Free-living cells that were separated from a natural colony of N. flagelliforme were cultivated in a 20-L photobioreactor for 16 days at five agitation rates with impeller tip speeds at 0.3, 0., 0.8, 1.0, and 1.5 m·s−1. With different impeller tip speeds there were significant differences in the cell growth and polysaccharide production, and different types of cell colonies appeared because of different shear forces caused by agitation. At harvest time, cell concentrations with tip speeds of 0.8 and 1.0 m·s−1 were clearly higher than those with the other three tip speeds, but dry cell weights with the tip speeds of 0.3, 0.5, 0.8, and 1.0 m·s−1 were almost the same. The highest RPS (polysaccharide that released into liquid medium) production was obtained with the tip speeds of 0.8 and 1.0 m·s−1, while the highest EPS (polysaccharide that formed capsule or slime layer) production was obtained with the tip speed of 0.5 m·s−1. The tip speed of 1.5 m·s−1 was harmful for both cell growth and polysaccharide production, indicating that an appropriate shear force was needed in the liquid suspension culture of N. flagelliforme.  相似文献

Zinc and salinity effects on membrane transport in Chara connivens   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
Pressure-probe measurements showed that the pressure relaxation of internodal cells of the freshwater alga Chara connivens slowed considerably when 1–5 mol m?3 Zn2+, or more especially Zn2+ and 75 mol m?3 NaCl, were present in the medium for periods of 1 h or longer. These results indicate that the water permeability of the Chara membrane is decreased by Zn2+, and that this effect is enhanced by 75 mol m?3 NaCl. Specific values taken after 375 min exposure were: 5 mol m?3 Zn2+ and 75 mol m?3 NaCl caused the half-time for bulk water movement to increase from 7·8±2·3 to 79·5±5·4s, corresponding to a decrease in the hydraulic conductivity (Lp) from (13·0±3·3) × 10?7 m s?1 mPa?1 to (1·25±0·23) × 10?7 m s?1 MPa?1 (mean±S.D., n= 10). These changes are not seen in the presence of NaCl alone, and to a reduced extent in the presence of 5 mol m?3Zn2+ alone (after 375 min, Lp was (2·4±0·1) × 10?7 m s?1 MPa?1, mean±S.D., n = 6). Ca2+ cannot substitute for Zn2+, but seems to competitively inhibit Zn2+. There was another, kinetically distinct effect of Zn2+: the ingress of Na+ within 15 min of exposure to 75 mol m?3 NaCl is halved by the presence of 1–5 mol m?3 Zn2+, although internal osmolality is little changed by Zn2+. In spite of this, Zn2+ does not exert the long-term protection against NaCl that has been reported for Ca2+. Depending on the concentration of Zn2+ and the duration of the exposure, the effects on water permeability were fully or partly reversible within 24–48 h. The mechanism of these changes is difficult to identify. One possibility is a zinc-induced restriction of trans-membrane channels to give single-file channels which can be blocked by salt.  相似文献

Felines use their spinal column to increase their running speed at rapid locomotion performance. However, its motion profile behavior during fast gait locomotion has little attention. The goal of this study is to examine the relative spinal motion profile during two different galloping gait speeds. To understand this dynamic behavior trend, a dynamic motion of the feline animal (Felis catus domestica) was measured and analyzed by motion capture devices. Based on the experiments at two different galloping gaits, we observed a significant increase in speed (from 3.2 m.s-1 to 4.33 m.s-1) during the relative motion profile synchronization between the spinal (range: 118.86~ to 168.00~) and pelvic segments (range: 46.35~ to 91.13~) during the hindlimb stance phase (time interval: 0.495 s to 0.600 s). Based on this discovery, the relative angular speed profile was applied to understand the possibility that the role of the relative motion match during high speed locomotion generates bigger ground reaction force.  相似文献

Criteria for rupture prediction of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) are based only on the diameter of AAA. This method does not consider complex hemodynamic forces exerted on AAA wall. The methodology used in our study combines Computer-Aided Design (CAD) with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Three-dimensional vascular structures reconstructions were based on Computed Tomography (CT) images and CAD. CFD theory was used for mathematical modeling and simulations. In this way, dynamic behavior of blood flow in bounded three-dimensional space was described. Doppler Ultrasonography (US) was used for model results validation. All simulations were based on medical investigation of 4 patients (male older than 65 years) with diagnosed AAA. Good correspondence between computed velocities in AAA and measured values with Doppler US (Patient 1 0.60 m·s−1 versus 0.61 m·s−1, Patient 2 0.80 m·s−1 versus 0.80 m·s−1, Patient 3 0.75 m·s−1 versus 0.78 m·s−1, Patient 4 0.50 m·s−1 versus 0.49 m·s−1) was noticed. The good agreement between measured and simulated velocities validates our methodology and the other data available from simulations (eg. von Misses stress) could be used to provide useful information about the possibility of AAA rupture.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of freezing on the function in Atlantic salmon Salmo salar spermatozoa. The semen was frozen in Cortland's medium + 1.3M dimethyl sulphoxide + 0.3M glucose + 2% bovine serum albumin (final concentration) in a ratio of 1:3 (semen:cryoprotectant) as the treatment (T) and fresh semen as the control (F). Straws of 0·5 ml of sperm suspension were frozen in 4 cm of N2L. They were thawed in a thermoregulated bath (40° C). After thawing, the percentage of spermatozoa with fragmented DNA [transferase dUTP (deoxyuridine triphosphate) nick‐end labelling (TUNEL)], plasma membrane integrity (SYBR‐14/PI) and mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨMMit, JC‐1) were evaluated by flow cytometry and motility was evaluated by optical microscope under stroboscopic light. The fertilization rates of the control and treatment semen were tested at a sperm density of 1·5 × 107 spermatozoa oocyte?1, by observation of the first cleavages after 16 h incubation at 10° C. In the cryopreserved semen (T), the mean ± s.d . DNA fragmentation was 4·8 ± 2·5%; plasma membrane integrity 75·2 ± 6·3%; mitochondrial membrane potential 51·7 ± 3·6%; motility 58·5 ± 5·3%; curved line velocity (VCL) 61·2 ± 17·4 µm s?1; average‐path velocity (VAP) 50·1 ± 17·3 µm s?1; straight‐line velocity (VSL) 59·1 ± 18·4 µm s?1; fertilization rate 81·6 ± 1·9%. There were significant differences in the plasma membrane integrity, mitochondrial membrane potential, motility, fertilization rate, VCL, VAP and VSL compared with the controls (P < 0·05). Also the mitochondrial membrane potential correlated with motility, fertilization rate, VCL and VSL (r = 0·75; r = 0·59; r = 0·77 and r = 0·79, respectively; P < 0·05); and the fertilization rate correlated with VCL and VSL (r = 0·59 and r = 0·55, respectively).  相似文献

Synechococcus R-2 (PCC 7942) actively accumulated Cl? in the light and dark, under control conditions (BG-11 media: pHo, 7·5; [Na+]o, 18 mol m?3; [Cl?]o, 0·508 molm?3). In BG-11 medium [Cl?], was 17·2±0·848 mol m?3 (light), electrochemical potential of Cl? (ΔμCl?i,o) =+211±2mV; [Cl?]i= 1·24±0·11 mol m?3(dark), ΔμCl?i,o=+133±4mV. Cl? fluxes, but not permeabilities, were much higher in the light: ?Cl?i,o= 4·01±5·4 nmol m?2 s?1, PCl?i,o= 47±5pm s?1 (light); ?Cl?i,o= 0·395±0·071 nmol m?2 s?1, PCl?i,o= 69±14 pm s?1 (dark). Chloride fluxes are inhibited by acid pHo (pHo 5; ?Cl?i,o= 0·14±0·04 nmol m?2 s?1); optimal at pHo 7·5 and not strongly inhibited by alkaline pHo (pHo 10; ?Cl?1i,o= 1·7±0·14 nmol m?2 s?1). A Cl?in/2H+in coporter could not account for the accumulation of Cl? alkaline pHo. Permeability of Cl? is very low, below 100pm s?1 under all conditions used, and appears to be maximal at pHo 7·5 (50–70 pm s?1) and minimal in acid pHo (20pm s?1). DCCD (dicyclohexyl-carbodiimide) inhibited ?Cl?i,o in the light about 75% and [Cl?]i fell to 2·2±0·26 (4) mol m?3. Valinomycin had no effect but monensin severely inhibited Cl? uptake ([Cl?]i= 1·02±0·32 mol m?3; ?Cl?i,o= 0·20±0·1 nmol m?2 s?1). Vanadate (200 mmol m?3) accelerated the Cl? flux (?Cl?i,o= 5·28±0·64 nmol m?2 s?1) but slightly decreased accumulation of Cl? ([Cl?], = 13·9±1·3 mol m?3) in BG-11 medium but had no significant effect in Na+-free media. DCMU (dichlorophenyldimethylurea) did not reduce [Cl?], or ?Cl?i,o to that found in the dark ([Cl?]i= 8·41±0·76 mol m?3; ?Cl?i,o= 2·06±0·36 nmol m?2 s?1). Synechococcus also actively accumulated Cl? in Na+-free media, [Cl?]i was lower but ΔΨi,o hyperpolarized in Na+-free media and so the ΔμCl?i,o was little changed ([Cl?]i= 7·98±0·698 mol m?3; ΔμCl?i,o=+203±3 mV). Net Cl? uptake was stimulated by Na+; Li+ acted as a partial analogue for Na+. Synechococcus has a Na+ activated Cl? transporter which is probably a primary 2Cl?/ATP pump. The Cl? pump is voltage sensitive. ΔμCl?i,o is directly proportional to ΔΨi,o(P»0·01%): ΔμCl?i,o= -1·487 (±0·102) ×ΔΨi,o, r= -0·983, n= 31. The ΔμCl?i,o increased (more positive) as the Δμi,o became more negative. The ΔμCl?i,o has no known function, but might provide a driving force for the uptake of micronutrients.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to assess the usefulness of the vertical jump and estimated vertical-jump power as a field test for weightlifting. Estimated PP output from the vertical jump was correlated with lifting ability among 64 USA national-level weightlifters (junior and senior men and women). Vertical jump was measured using the Kinematic Measurement System, consisting of a switch mat interfaced with a laptop computer. Vertical jumps were measured using a hands-on-hips method. A counter-movement vertical jump (CMJ) and a static vertical jump (SJ, 90 degrees knee angle) were measured. Two trials were given for each condition. Test-retest reliability for jump height was intra-class correlation (ICC) = 0.98 (CMJ) and ICC = 0.96 (SJ). Athletes warmed up on their own for 2-3 minutes, followed by 2 practice jumps at each condition. Peak power (PP) was estimated using the equations developed by Sayers et al. (24). The athletes' current lifting capabilities were assessed by a questionnaire, and USA national coaches checked the listed values. Differences between groups (i.e., men versus women, juniors versus resident lifters) were determined using t-tests (p < or = 0.05). Correlations were determined using Pearson's r. Results indicate that vertical jumping PP is strongly associated with weightlifting ability. Thus, these results indicate that PP derived from the vertical jump (CMJ or SJ) can be a valuable tool in assessing weightlifting performance.  相似文献

Control of a Quadruped Robot with Bionic Springy Legs in Trotting Gait   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Legged robots have better performance on discontinuous terrain than that of wheeled robots. However, the dynamic trotting and balance control of a quadruped robot is still a challenging problem, especially when the robot has multi-joint legs. This paper presents a three-dimensional model of a quadruped robot which has 6 Degrees of Freedom (DOF) on torso and 5 DOF on each leg. On the basis of the Spring-Loaded Inverted Pendulum (SLIP) model, body control algorithm is discussed in the first place to figure out how legs work in 3D trotting. Then, motivated by the principle of joint function separation and introducing certain biological characteristics, two joint coordination approaches are developed to produce the trot and provide balance. The robot reaches the highest speed of 2.0 m.s-1, and keeps balance under 250 Kg.m.s-1 lateral disturbance in the simulations. The effectiveness of these approaches is also verified on a prototype robot which runs to 0.83 m.s-1 on the treadmill, The simulations and experiments show that legged robots have good biological properties, such as the ground reaction force, and spring-like leg behavior.  相似文献

Total length (LT) (range 24–1000 mm; mean ±s.e . = 170·21 ± 0·36 mm) and mass (W) (range 0·10–9590 g; mean ±s.e . = 76·03 ± 0·87 g) of 36 460 specimens of marble trout Salmo marmoratus were used to compute a standard mass (Ws) equation for this species by means of the empirical percentile (EmP) method. The EmP Ws equation calculated was: log10Ws = ?5·208 + 3·202 log10LT? 0·046 (log10LT)2 (LT range 90–570 mm) and it is valid throughout the species' area of distribution across Europe.  相似文献

Summer habitat use by sympatric Arctic charr Salvelinus alpinus, young Atlantic salmon Salmo salar and brown trout Salmo trutta was studied by two methods, direct underwater observation and electrofishing, across a range of habitats in two sub-arctic rivers. More Arctic charr and fewer Atlantic salmon parr were observed by electrofishing in comparison to direct underwater observation, perhaps suggesting a more cryptic behaviour by Arctic charr. The three species segregated in habitat use. Arctic charr, as found by direct underwater observation, most frequently used slow (mean ±s .d . water velocity 7·2 ± 16·6 cm s−1) or often stillwater and deep habitats (mean ±s .d . depth 170·1 ± 72·1 cm). The most frequently used mesohabitat type was a pool. Young Atlantic salmon favoured the faster flowing areas (mean ±s .d . water velocity 44·0 ± 16·8 cm s−1 and depth 57·1 ± 19·0 cm), while brown trout occupied intermediate habitats (mean ±s .d . water velocity 33·1 ± 18·6 cm s−1 and depth 50·2 ± 18·0 cm). Niche overlap was considerable. The Arctic charr observed were on average larger (total length) than Atlantic salmon and brown trout (mean ±s .d . 21·9 ± 8·0, 10·2 ± 3·1 and 13·4 ± 4·5 cm). Similar habitat segregation between Atlantic salmon and brown trout was found by electrofishing, but more fishes were observed in shallower habitats. Electrofishing suggested that Arctic charr occupied habitats similar to brown trout. These results, however, are biased because electrofishing was inefficient in the slow-deep habitat favoured by Arctic charr. Habitat use changed between day and night in a similar way for all three species. At night, fishes held positions closer to the bottom than in the day and were more often observed in shallower stream areas mostly with lower water velocities and finer substrata. The observed habitat segregation is probably the result of interference competition, but the influence of innate selective differences needs more study.  相似文献

Maximum sustained swimming speeds, swimming energetics and swimming kinematics were measured in the green jack Caranx caballus (Teleostei: Carangidae) using a 41 l temperature‐controlled, Brett‐type swimming‐tunnel respirometer. In individual C. caballus [mean ±s.d. of 22·1 ± 2·2 cm fork length (LF), 190 ± 61 g, n = 11] at 27·2 ± 0·7° C, mean critical speed (Ucrit) was 102·5 ± 13·7 cm s?1 or 4·6 ± 0·9 LF s?1. The maximum speed that was maintained for a 30 min period while swimming steadily using the slow, oxidative locomotor muscle (Umax,c) was 99·4 ± 14·4 cm s?1 or 4·5 ± 0·9 LF s?1. Oxygen consumption rate (M in mg O2 min?1) increased with swimming speed and with fish mass, but mass‐specific M (mg O2 kg?1 h?1) as a function of relative speed (LF s?1) did not vary significantly with fish size. Mean standard metabolic rate (RS) was 170 ± 38 mg O2 kg?1 h?1, and the mean ratio of M at Umax,c to RS, an estimate of factorial aerobic scope, was 3·6 ± 1·0. The optimal speed (Uopt), at which the gross cost of transport was a minimum of 2·14 J kg?1 m?1, was 3·8 LF s?1. In a subset of the fish studied (19·7–22·7 cm LF, 106–164 g, n = 5), the swimming kinematic variables of tailbeat frequency, yaw and stride length all increased significantly with swimming speed but not fish size, whereas tailbeat amplitude varied significantly with speed, fish mass and LF. The mean propulsive wavelength was 86·7 ± 5·6 %LF or 73·7 ± 5·2 %LT. Mean ±s.d . yaw and tailbeat amplitude values, calculated from lateral displacement of each intervertebral joint during a complete tailbeat cycle in three C. caballus (19·7, 21·6 and 22·7 cm LF; 23·4, 25·3 and 26·4 cm LT), were 4·6 ± 0·1 and 17·1 ± 2·2 %LT, respectively. Overall, the sustained swimming performance, energetics, kinematics, lateral displacement and intervertebral bending angles measured in C. caballus were similar to those of other active ectothermic fishes that have been studied, and C. caballus was more similar to the chub mackerel Scomber japonicus than to the kawakawa tuna Euthynnus affinis.  相似文献

Striped trumpeter larvae reared in algal cell‐induced turbid water (greenwater) fed equally well in clearwater in a light intensity range of 1–10 μmol s‐1 m‐2, when evaluated in terms of both the proportion of larvae feeding and larval feeding intensity. An ontogenetic improvement in photopic visual sensitivity of larvae was indicated by improved feeding at 0·1 μmol s‐1 m‐2, from 26±5% of larvae feeding and 0·027±0·005 rotifers consumed per feeding larva min‐1 on day 8, to 96±2% and 0·221±0·007 rotifers consumed larva‐1 min‐1 on day 23 post‐hatching. Algal cell‐induced turbidity was shown to reduce incident irradiance with depth, indicated by increasing coefficients of attenuation (1·4–33·1) with increasing cell densities (0–2×106 cells ml‐1), though light intensities in the feeding experiment test chambers, at the algal cell densities tested, were within the optimal range for feeding (1–10 μmol s‐1 m‐2). Algae‐induced turbidity had different effects on larval feeding response dependent upon the previous visual environment of the larvae. Young larvae (day 9 post‐hatching) reared in clearwater showed decreased feeding capabilities with increasing turbidity, from 98±1% feeding and 0·153±0·022 rotifers consumed larva‐1 min‐1 in clearwater to 61±10% feeding and 0·042±0·004 rotifers consumed larva‐1 min‐1 at 56 NTU, while older clearwater reared larvae fed well at all turbidities tested. Likewise, greenwater reared larvae had increased feeding capabilities in the highest algal cell densities tested (32 and 66 NTU) compared with those in low algal cell density (6 NTU), and clearwater (0·7 NTU) to which they were naïve.  相似文献

The mode of binding of Vicia graminea125I-labelled lectin to human M and N erythrocytes at 4°C has been investigated. The labelled lectin retained the full activity of native lectin. Lectin association at 4°C was characterized by a t12 of 3 to 5 min, reaching steady-state within 15 min. Incubation of cells for 15 min at 4°C with increasing concentrations of Vicia graminea125I-labelled lectin showed that saturation binding occurred. Scatchard analysis of equilibrium data determined over a wide range of lectin concentrations yielded a curvilinear plot with an upward concave slope; this representation indicated that there was not a single homogeneous class of noninteracting binding sites. This result could indicate two or more independent classes of binding sites or one class of interacting sites exhibiting negative cooperativity. Since unlabelled lectin, which at the concentration used, rapidly binds to available receptors, did not affect the dissociation rate of the labelled lectin and since identical Scatchard plots were found using native and formaldehyde-fixed erythrocytes we conclude that there are two classes of independent Vicia graminea binding sites on human erythrocytes. Computer analysis of the Scatchard plots gave high- and low-affinity constant (7.07±1.1) · 107 M?1 and (0.2±0.01) · 107 M?1, respectively, for N erythrocytes and (1.13±0.18) · 107 M?1 and (0.24±0.01) · 107 M?1, respectively for the M cells. N erythrocytes were estimated to have 0.085 · 105 high-affinity and 2.1 · 105 low-affinity sites and M erythrocytes, 0.011 · 105 high affinity and 0.13 · 105 low-affinity sites. N cells therefore have 10-times as many sites as M cells. Studies of the dissociation of 125I-labelled lectin from N and M cells in the presence of unlabelled lectin gave dissociation rate constants of 51 · 10?4 s?1 and 1.97 · 10?4 s?1 for the high- and low-affinity sites of N cells and 13 · 10?4 s?1 and 1.6 · 10?4 s?1 for the high- and low-affinitym sites of M cells, indicating that the binding of Vicia graminea lectin to human erythrocytes is reversible.  相似文献

In search of means to reduce the by-catch of juvenile flatfish in the shrimp fishery, vibrations and changes in current velocity caused by shrimp trawls were investigated in the field and in the laboratory. Buried as well as emerged shrimps (Crangon crangon) exhibit tailflips 5–10 cm before being touched by the rollers of a shrimp gear approaching them at a speed of 0.5 m·sec−1, as was revealed by slow motion video recordings in aquaria under artificial light. Hence, the signal effective in triggering escape must be attenuated strongly with increasing distance. Sediment vibration, commonly assumed to be an important signal in triggering escape of shrimps, was found to decrease by a factor 100·m−1. Signals from the rollers of a commercial shrimp gear in operation (towing speed 1 m·sec−1) were directly recorded with an accelerometer. Their frequency ranged from 50 to 500 Hz and reached an acceleration of 40 m·sec−2 on soft bottom or up to 100 m·sec−2 on hard substrate. Accelerometers, which had been buried right at the surface of a tidal sand flat during low tide, produced only one sharp signal of 100 Hz with an acceleration of 24 m·sec−2, when a shrimp gear swept them on the submerged tidal flats. However, in aquaria short sinusoidal signals (<5 m·sec−2; 20 to 300 Hz) made buried shrimps and flatfish (Pleuronectes platessa, Solea solea, Microstomus kitt) hide rather than flee. The vibrations recorded directly at the rollers and the underlying jolting movements of the rollers induce corresponding pulses in the water surrounding the rollers in a layer of approximately 10–15 cm. Similar water displacement of high acceleration was experimentally produced by a spring loaded transparent lucite piston (7 cm in diameter) fitted to an accelerometer. Accelerating this piston (12–116 m·sec−2, 50–200 Hz range) from 5 cm above towards the shrimp produced escape responses in up to 94% of the tests. Arthropods are known to perceive medium displacement rather than pressure. Hence, strong and rapidly rising water currents caused by the rollers rather than sediment vibration are assumed to mainly trigger the escape reaction, which makesCrangon accessible to the gear.  相似文献
