Summary Blood vessels of the perioesophageal nerve ganglia (brain) of Octopus vulgaris and the stellate ganglia of Sepia officinalis are described. The vessels have an incomplete endothelium, a complete basement membrane and a complete investment of pericytes. The pericytes are joined by specialised membrane junctions but these are not tight junctions. The main type of neuron/vessel arrangement is one where there is a collagen-filled space between the pericytes and the surrounding glial cells. Axons or neurons are sometimes applied directly to the vessel pericytes and in the neuropil, pericytes contact glial cells that ensheath bundles of axons. We investigated superficial interarterial, intra-arterial, arterio-venous and veno-venous anastomoses in 100 hearts from men and women taken at random who died at 20-85 years of age. By means of careful dissection and injection into the blood vessels of a differently stained 12% solution of vinilit in acetone, we studied the number and localization of the anastomoses and their appearance. Interarterial anastomoses, i.e. anastomoses between the ramification of the left and the right coronary artery, were detected in 33 hearts. Intra-arterial anastomoses, i.e. anastomoses between the ramifications of one and the same artery, were seen in 5 hearts. Arterio-venous anastomoses were found in 39 hearts. Veno-venous anostomoses were found in 49 hearts. The veno-venous anastomoses display a great many variations, being commonly the regular finding in human veins.  相似文献

The action of certain drugs on the autonomic system was studied under the influence of bile acids: 3,12-dihydroxycholanic acid (deoxycholic), 3,7,12-trihydroxycholanic acid (cholic), and 3,7,12-triketocholanic acid (dehydrocholic). The experiments were carried out on rat heart in vivo and on isolated rat vessel preparation. It was shown that bile acids reduced the stimulating effect of isoprenaline on rat heart and the relaxing effect on the blood vessels. An inversion of the effects of adrenaline and noradrenaline on the rat heart was observed, and an enhancement of the vasoconstrictor effect of these substances. Under the conditions of this experiment an inversion was noted of the action of acetylcholine on the heart and blood vessels.  相似文献

The article claims that contractions of the cardiac left ventricle produce a whirling (turbulent) movement of blood that is maintained in the aorta. In the walls of large and small arteries, as well as in the arteriolar walls, myocytes have a spiral arrangement. Their contraction maintains the turbulent blood stream in the vessels with a small diameter, in spite of the fact that the Reinolds' number for them is rather small. The author considers that while making a mathematical analysis of the blood flowing in the arteries, it is necessary to take into account that the walls of the arterial vessels actively influence the blood stream.  相似文献

In order to clarify the morphology of the circulatory system of amphioxus the blood vessels were investigated using modern techniques of light and electron microscopy. The pattern of circulation in amphioxus is forward ventrally and backwards dorsally. In addition, circulating corpuscles, usually associated with the blood of higher chordates, are absent. The circulatory system of amphioxus consists of well defined contractile vessels and vascular spaces or sinuses within a connective tissue matrix. The contractile vessels have a discontinuous endothelial lining resting on a basal lamina and are enclosed by a simple layer of contractile myoepithelial cells. Discontinuous endothelial linings occur throughout the vascular tree, including major and minor afferent and efferent vessels and blood sinuses. This is in contrast to higher animals where the endothelium forms a more or less continuous lining along the inner surface of the boundary layer. It is suggested that the endothelial cells of amphioxus, like the endothelial cells in capillaries of higher chordates, most likely play a role in the physiology of the circulatory system by removing residues of filtration from the basal lamina, thereby facilitating an exchange of materials to and from the surrounding tissues.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to assess the changes in gene expression and peptide adrenomedullin (AM) levels in cardiovascular and other tissues in the streptozotocin-diabetic rats. For this purpose, diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ, 65 mg/Kg body weight). Half of the diabetic rats were subcutaneously injected with insulin in the afternoon (4 units/day) one week after STZ injection until the day before killing. Control rats received only saline injection. AM mRNA was determined in cardiovascular and other tissues of streptozotocin-diabetic rats using solution-hybridization-RNase protection assay. Circulating AM and peptide AM in cardiovascular and other tissues were estimated using a specific radioimmunoassay. There were increases in preproAM mRNA levels in the left and right ventricles and in the thoracic aorta in both the 2-week and 4-week diabetic rats, but not in the two atria, the mesenteric artery and the lung. In the 2-week diabetic rats, there were decreases in AM contents in the two atria and the lung but an increase in the thoracic aorta. In the 4-week diabetic rats, there were bigger decreases in the atria and also a decrease in the left ventricle. The plasma AM levels were not changed but there was an increase in the excretion of AM in the urine. Our results suggest a possible increase in AM release in the heart and the thoracic aorta in the 2-week and 4-week diabetic rats.  相似文献
