Experiments were conducted on the duration of life in sea water of three species of cystophorous cercariae from the Barents sea. The expenditure of reserve nutritive substances (glycogene) in the process of the vital activity of cercariae was followed. The life duration of cystophorous cercariae is considerably longer than that cited in literature for other groups of cercariae that is associated with their morphological and biological peculiarities.  相似文献

Cystophorous cercariae from Retusa obtusa (Montagu) (Gastropoda, Opisthobranchia, Retusidae) develop into adults of Brachyphallus crenatus (Rudolphi, 1802) Odhner, 1905 (Hemiuridae). The free-swimming cercariae were ingested by laboratory-reared Acartia tonsa Dana, and the cercarial body was injected into the hemocoel of the copepod. Two-week-old metacercariae held at 15 C were infective to stickleback Gasterosteus aculeatus Linnaeus. The cercariae of B. crenatus are very similar to the cercariae of Hemiurus luehei Odhner, 1905, and Lecithocladium excisum (Rudolphi, 1819) Lühe, 1901 (Hemiuridae), which develop in closely related opisthobranch snails. Scanning electron microscopy of metacercariae and adults of B. crenatus revealed the annular plications of most of the external surface to be scalelike. The area surrounding the genital pore and the presomatic pit was densely plicated.  相似文献

Three new species of cystophorous cercariae, Cercaria appendiculata Pelseneer, 1906, C. octocauda Tschubrik, 1952 and C. saccocaudata Tschubrik, 1966, are described from the gastropod Tectonatica clausa (Broderip et Sowerby). C. saccocaudata is a larva of trematodes of the genus Lecithaster. The development of parthenites of this species carries out within one summer season. Parthenites of C. appendiculata and C. octocauda are capable to survive unfavourable winter conditions and produce cercariae in the next summer. The above three species were found to eject cercariae through the ejaculatory tube which is an important adaptation of chemiurids to the infection of the second intermediate hosts.  相似文献

A new cercaria is recorded from the prosobranch snail Cantharus dorbignyi from the sublittoral region off the coast of Corsica. The redia, cercaria and metacercaria (the latter experimentally developed in the labrid fishes Symphodus ocellatus and S. rostratus) are described, along with the behaviour of naturally emitted cercariae. In view of the morphology of the larval stages, the parasite is thought likely to be an acanthocolpid. The morphology of the cercaria and metacercaria are compared with both known and suspected acanthocolpid cercariae and with adult acanthocolpids known to occur in the Mediterranean. Morphological and circumstantial evidence suggests that this cercaria may be a species of the genus Tormopsolus.  相似文献

Survival of the cystophorous cercariae of Halipegus occidualis (Trematoda: Hemiuridae) from naturally infected Helisoma anceps (Gastropoda: Planorbidae) was determined following constant temperature storage at 4, 16, 22, 26 and 30 degrees C. At 4 degrees C, 90% of cercariae survived for 14 weeks and 50% survived for 30 weeks. Survival varied inversely with temperature, and at 30 degrees, 90% survived for 1.5 weeks and 50% survived for 2.5 weeks. At the time of release from snails, cercariae excysted within 0.5 s of stimulation. Excystment times ultimately increased to 1-3 s at all temperatures as length of storage increased, but no connection was detected between excystment time and the activity of the cercaria. Excystment times began increasing while survival was still above 90%. Temperature specific mortality rates of cercariae were estimated, and used to simulate the survival of cercariae released naturally at various times of the year. The results of these simulations suggest that cercariae of H. occidualis are present in the environment at all times of the year, but that cercariae present in late winter (January to mid-March) may have an impaired excystment mechanism that reduces their infectivity.  相似文献

High-performance thin-layer chromatography was used to analyze the neutral lipids in the rediae, cercariae, and encysted metacercariae of the paramphistomid trematode Zygocotyle lunata. Visual observations of the chromatograms showed that the most abundant lipid fractions were free sterols and free fatty acids in all larval stages and triacylglycerols in the metacercariae and rediae. The weight of free sterols (x +/- SE) was 120+/-20 ng/cercaria, 56+/-3.8 ng/redia, and 5.9+/-1.5 ng/encysted metacercaria; the weight of triacylglycerols was 13+/-0.88 ng/encysted metacercaria, 6.3+/-0.063 ng/redia, and was not detectable in the cercaria; the weight of free fatty acids was 160+/-17 ng/ cercaria, 76+/-9.1 ng/redia, and 4.2+/-0.46 ng/encysted metacercaria. Oil red O staining of whole larvae showed the presence of neutral lipids in the rediae but not in the cercariae or encysted metacercariae. A dramatic reduction was seen in the quantity of free sterols and free fatty acids in the encysted metacercariae as compared with the cercariae, suggesting that these neutral lipids are used in some way during the transformation from cercaria to metacercaria.  相似文献

Nuclear ribosomal DNA sequences represent a useful tool for distinction of poorly differentiated developmental stages, such as trematode cercariae or metacercariae. Here, the complete internal transcribed spacer region of the ribosomal DNA (ITS 1 + 5.8S + ITS 2) was sequenced for 29 specimens of the digenean family Opecoelidae, including 16 adult specimens and 13 undescribed larval stages (nine cercariae and four metacercariae) occurring in various marine host organisms. Six cercariae and three metacercariae were found to match their corresponding adult form. This work also revealed that cercariae of the same species are able to infect more than one gastropod host species, suggesting that the specificity for the first intermediate host within the Digenea may be lower than previously thought.  相似文献

The small planorbid snail Gyraulus cf. laevis (Alder) from Lake Myvatn in Iceland was found to emit large-tailed cercariae with 19 collar spines, and three-spined sticklebacks Gasterosteus aculeatus L. were infected with metacercariae of a species of Petasiger Dietz, 1909. Comparative sequence analysis using ND1 mitochondrial DNA sequences revealed that the rediae and cercariae are conspecific with P. islandicus Kostadinova & Skirnisson, 2007, recently described from an isolated population of the horned grebe Podiceps auritus (L.) at the lake. The redia, cercaria and metacercaria are described and compared with related forms.  相似文献

A total of 17737 individuals of prosobranch snails, Semisulcospira spp., were collected from Lake Biwa and its tributaries, central Japan, from 1995 to 1999. They were examined for trematode larvae. One species of Aspidogastrea and 28 species of Digenea were detected. This paper briefly describes five of the 28 digeneans: a tetracotyle metacercaria from S. niponica, Cercaria A (cystophorous cercaria) from S. reticulata, Cercaria B (echinostomatid cercaria) from S. libertina, Cercaria C (magnacauda cercaria) from S. niponica and Cercaria D (mutabile cercarium) from S. nakasekoae. They were rare and every one of them was obtained from one snail only once.  相似文献

Previously undescribed motile cystophorous cercariae which develop in sporocyst-like germinal sacs in the bullomorph opisthobranch Philine aperta are experimentally shown to develop into Lecithocladium excisum (Digenea, Hemiuridae), a common stomach parasite of mackerel Scomber scombrus in the north-east Atlantic and adjacent seas. Between 3 and 8% of P. aperta from the northern Oresund, Denmark, were infected with cercariae of L. excisum. Ninety per cent were infected with Rhopalura sp. (Orthonectida). Copepods of the genera Acartia, Paracalanus, Pseudocalanus, Eurytemora and Oithona were experimentally infected. Pressure exerted by their mouth limbs caused delivery tube eversion and the injection of the cercarial body into the copepod haemocoel. The metacercariae did not grow in the above mentioned hosts at 12 degrees C, but 590 microns long metacercariae developed within 22 days in laboratory-reared A. tonsa at 18 degrees C. The ctenophore Pleurobrachia pileus and the holoplanktonic polychaete Tomopteris helgolandica, which were found to be naturally infected with metacercariae of L. excisum, may act as transport hosts.  相似文献

Abstract

The cercariae and sporocysts (or rediae) of four trematode species are described from the intertidal snail Zeacumantus subcarinatus: a distome xiphidiocercaria assigned to the genus Renicola (family Renicolidae); a monostome xiphidiocercaria belonging either to the genus Microphallus or Megalophallus (family Microphallidae); a magnacercous cercaria of the genus Galactosomum (family Hetero‐phyidae); and a cercaria of the genus Philophthalmus (family Philophthalmidae). The morphological features of these cercariae are compared to previously described cercariae of the same genera. In addition, since the philophthalmid cercaria encysts readily on artificial substrates in the laboratory, the metacercaria of this species is also described. These cercariae are part of a diverse community of at least six digenean species parasitising the snail Z. subcarinatus that, together, have a major impact on the ecology and evolution of this snail.

Helisoma trivolvis snails collected from a lake in Warren County, New Jersey, in June 2007 possessed the ectosymbiont Chaetogaster limnaei (Annelida). Some of these snails were also infected with larval stages of Zygocotyle lunata and Echinostoma trivolvis. Chaetogaster limnaei associated with the infected snails fed on the cercariae of both digeneans. Zygocotylae lunata cercariae were observed in the stomach of C. limnaei and whole cercariae were loosely attached to the ventral surface of the chaetogasters. Cercariae in the stomachs were digested within 48 hr and probably served as a source of nutrient for the annelids. Whole cercariae and 1 nonviable metacercaria of E. trivolvis were seen in the stomachs of the chaetogasters. The protective action of the chaetogasters on the transmission of the cercariae of E. trivolvis and Z. lunata to second intermediate hosts in the wild awaits further study.  相似文献

The life-history of Euclinostomum heterostomum (Rudolphi, 1809), a clinostomid trematode occurring in the oesophagus and buccal cavity of pond heron Ardeola grayii and cattle egret Bubulcus ibis at Visakhapatnam, India, has been traced from egg to adult stage, based on field and laboratory studies. Eggs released by gravid flukes hatched into miracidia in 10 days. The snail Indoplanorbis exustus served as the first intermediate host and the intramolluscan phase, involving the development of two redial generations and cercariae, took two months. Natural infections with the metacercaria were found in the kidneys and liver of the fish Channa punctatus and muscles of C. orientalis. Laboratory experiments demonstrated that more than 2 months are required for the development of the cercaria into the infective metacercarial stage. The morphology of all of the stages in the life-cycle has been studied in detail, as well as the growth characteristics of the metacercaria within the fish host. Two phases in the metacercarial growth were noted, a lag phase followed by an exponential phase. Allometric growth parameters of body proportions and organs of the metacercaria and the adult are compared. The validity of various species included in the genus Euclinostomum is discussed.  相似文献

Cercariae belonging to the genus Philophthalmus (Digenea: Philophthalmidae) were detected in a freshwater snail Semisulcospira libertina collected from Innai Town, Oita Prefecture, Kyusyu, Japan. This is the first record of the cercaria of this genus from East Asia and from Semisulcospira. Daughter rediae and cercariae are briefly described and morphologically compared with similar but unidentified ones reported from Japan. Cercariae were found encysting on the surface of the bottom of the container and metamorphosed into a flask-like metacercaria characteristic of Philophthalmus.  相似文献

A new 23-collar-spined cercaria and metacercaria are described from intertidal molluscs of the coast of New Zealand. The new cercaria found emerging from the mud snails Zeacumantus subcarinatus (Sowerby) (Prosobranchia: Batillariidae) is characterized mainly by the number and arrangement of the cephalic glands, the size of the suckers, and the size and number of the collar spines. The cercaria encysts in the cockle Austrovenus stutchburyi (Wood) (Bivalvia: Veneridae) which lives in sympatry with the first intermediate host throughout New Zealand. Laboratory infections of cockles by cercariae from naturally infected snails resulted in metacercariae identical to those found in naturally infected cockles. The main features of the cercaria and metacercaria are the presence of a reniform collar with 23 spines, two pairs of small cephalic glands at the oral sucker level, another two pairs of much longer ones posterior to the pharynx, and the excretory vesicle Y-shaped with the main collecting canals extending to the anterior level of the ventral sucker. Each of the main collecting canals had 10-11 pairs of bilateral diverticula between the anterior edge of the ventral sucker and anterior body end. A brief discussion of its possible life cycle and ecology is also provided.  相似文献

High performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) was used to analyse the neutral lipids in the rediae, cercariae, and encysted metacercariae of Echinostoma caproni from Biomphalaria glabrata snails. Visual observations of the chromatograms showed that the most abundant lipid fraction in all stages was free sterol. Quantification of the free sterol revealed mean weights of 2.7 +/- 0.64 ng per redia, 0.53 +/- 0.023 ng per cercaria, and 0.081 +/- 0.0098 ng per encysted metacercaria. Oil Red O staining of the larval stages confirmed the presence of lipids within the rediae and cercariae but did not show lipids in the encysted metacercariae. The dimunition in neutral lipids from the cercarial to the encysted metacercarial stage does not support a previous observation that fat increases in successive phases of the digenean life cycle.  相似文献

A survey of the larval stages (cercariae and metacercariae) of trematodes (Digenea) found in planorbid snails in Central Europe (Austria, Czech Republic, south-east Germany, Hungary, Poland and the Slovak Republic) is presented based on a study of 7,628 snails of 12 species examined between 1998-2006. A total of 34 trematode larval stages, comprising cercariae of 28 species and metacercariae of seven species (one species occurred both as cercaria and metacercaria) of nine families were found in 898 (11.5%) snails of eight species. The dominant cercariae were those belonging to the Rubenstrema exasperatum (Rudolphi, 1819)/Neoglyphe locellus (Kossack, 1910) species complex, Tylodelphys excavata (Rudolphi, 1803) and Echinostoma spiniferum (La Valette, 1855) sensu Nasincová (1992), all from Planorbarius corneus (Linnaeus). Almost the same spectrum of cercariae of the families Echinostomatidae, Plagiorchiidae and Omphalometridae was found in the present study as in previous reports; however, a considerably lower spectrum of cercariae of the families Diplostomidae and Strigeidae was recorded. The most frequent metacercariae were those of Echinoparyphium aconiatum Dietz, 1909, Neoglyphe locellus and Moliniella anceps (Molin, 1859), all occurring mainly in P. corneus. The most heavily infected snail species was P. corneus, followed by Planorbis planorbis (Linnaeus) and Segmentina nitida (Müller). The widest spectrum of trematode species was found in P. planorbis and P. corneus. Forty-two cercariae identified to the species level belonging to 15 families, plus an additional 43 taxa recorded under generic or provisional names, were reported from 11 species of planorbids in previous studies carried out in Central Europe. However, the actual number of trematode species occurring in the planorbid snails is probably much lower, because many, if not most, larval stages reported under provisional names or unidentified to the species level may be conspecific with identified adult forms. A key to the cercariae and metacercariae recorded from planorbids in Central Europe, together with illustrations of those species encountered most frequently in the field, is provided to facilitate identification.  相似文献
