The local meta-GGA exchange correlation density functional (TPSS) with a relativistic effective core potential was employed to systematically investigate the geometric structures, stabilities, and electronic properties of bimetallic Ca2Au n (n = 1–9) and pure gold Au n (n ≤ 11) clusters. The optimized geometries show that the most stable isomers for Ca2Au n clusters have 3D structure when n > 2, and that one Au atom capping the Ca2Au n−1 structure for different-sized Ca2Au n (n = 1–9) clusters is the dominant growth pattern. The average atomic binding energies and second-order difference in energies show that the Ca2Au4 isomer is the most stable among the Ca2Au n clusters. The same pronounced even–odd alternations are found in the HOMO–LUMO gaps, VIPs, and hardnesses. The polarizabilities of the Ca2Au n clusters show an obvious local minimum at n = 4. Moreover, the inverse corrections to the polarizabilities versus the ionization potential and hardness were found for the gold clusters.  相似文献

A gene encoding a putrescine oxidase (PuORh, EC 1.4.3.10) was identified from the genome of Rhodococcus erythropolis NCIMB 11540. The gene was cloned in the pBAD vector and overexpressed at high levels in Escherichia coli. The purified enzyme was shown to be a soluble dimeric flavoprotein consisting of subunits of 50 kDa and contains non-covalently bound flavin adenine dinucleotide as a cofactor. From all substrates, the highest catalytic efficiency was found with putrescine (K M = 8.2 μM, k cat = 26 s−1). PuORh accepts longer polyamines, while short diamines and monoamines strongly inhibit activity. PuORh is a reasonably thermostable enzyme with t 1/2 at 50°C of 2 h. Based on the crystal structure of human monoamine oxidase B, we constructed a model structure of PuORh, which hinted to a crucial role of Glu324 for substrate binding. Mutation of this residue resulted in a drastic drop (five orders of magnitude) in catalytic efficiency. Interestingly, the mutant enzyme showed activity with monoamines, which are not accepted by wt-PuORh. The aim of this study was to investigate the combined influence of three independent variables on the permeation kinetics of lisinopril from hydrogels for transdermal delivery. A three-factor, three-level Box–Behnken design was used to optimize the independent variables, Carbopol 971 P (X 1), menthol (X 2), and propylene glycol (X 3). Fifteen batches were prepared and evaluated for responses as dependent variables. The dependent variables selected were cumulative amount permeated across rat abdominal skin in 24 h (Q 24; Y 1), flux (Y 2), and lag time (Y 3). Aloe juice has been first time investigated as vehicle for hydrogel preparation. The ex vivo permeation study was conducted using Franz diffusion cells. Mathematical equations and response surface plots were used to relate the dependent and independent variables. The regression equation generated for the cumulative permeation of LSP in 24 h (Q 24) was Y 1 = 1,443.3–602.59X 1 + 93.24X 2 + 91.75X 3 − 18.95X 1 X 2 – 140.93X 1 X 3 – 4.43X 2 X 3 – 152.63X 1 2 – 150.03X2 2 − 213.9X 3 2. The statistical validity of the polynomials was established, and optimized formulation factors were selected by feasibility and grid search. Validation of the optimization study with 15 confirmatory runs indicated high degree of prognostic ability of response surface methodology. The use of Box–Behnken design approach helped in identifying the critical formulation parameters in the transdermal delivery of lisinopril from hydrogels.  相似文献

Conchospore germlings of Porphyra yezoensis were stained with a fluorescent dye for DNA and observed with confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). Relative DNA values of the germling nuclei were obtained by measuring fluorescence intensities of nuclear regions of the optically sliced specimens, using the mean value of the smallest blade cells as a reference of the genomic n value. Such quantification revealed that the nuclear DNA amounts of the one-cell, two-cell, and four-cell-stage germlings are approximately 4 × n, 2 × n, and n ∼2 × n values respectively; these values agreed well with the expected ones from the hypothesis that meiosis corresponds to the first successive cell divisions after the conchospore germination. These results are consistent with a previous study on cytogenetic analysis of the chimaera blade formation (Ohme and Miura 1988, Plant Sci 57:135–140) and not consistent with a recent microscopic study (Wang et al. 2006, Phycol Res 54:201–207) which proposed that the first meiotic division occurs at the conchospore formation and the second division at the germination.  相似文献

The subsection Asperae of genus Hydrangea L. (Hydrangeaceae) has been investigated for three reasons: several ambiguous classifications concerning Hydrangea aspera have been published, unexpected differences in genome size among seven accessions have been reported Cerbah et al. (Theor Appl Genet 103:45–51, 2001), and two atypical chromosome numbers (2n = 30 for Hydrangea involucrata and 2n = 34 for H. aspera) have been found when all other species of the genus present 2n = 36. Therefore, these two species and four subspecies of Hydrangea in all 29 accessions were analyzed for their genome size, chromosome number, and karyotype features. This investigation includes flow cytometric measurements of nuclear DNA content and bases composition (GC%), fluorochrome banding for detection of GC- and AT-rich DNA regions, and fluorescent in situ hybridisation (FISH) for chromosome mapping of 5 S and 18 S-5.8 S-26 S rDNA genes. In the H. aspera complex, the genome size ranged from 2.98 (subsp. sargentiana) to 4.67 pg/2C (subsp. aspera), an exceptional intraspecific variation of 1.57-fold. The mean base composition was 40.5% GC. Our report establishes the first karyotype for the species H. involucrata, and for the subspecies of H. aspera which indeed present different formulae, offering an element of discrimination. FISH and fluorochrome banding revealed the important differentiation between these two species (H. involucrata and H. aspera) and among four subspecies of the H. aspera complex. Our results are in agreement with the Chinese classification that places the groups Kawakami and Villosa as two different species: Hydrangea villosa Rehder and Hydrangea kawakami Hayata. This knowledge can contribute to effective germplasm management and horticultural use.  相似文献

We examined the relationship between body temperature (Tb) of free flying pigeons and ambient water vapor pressure and temperature. Core or near core Tb of pigeons were measured using thermistors inserted into the cloaca and connected to small transmitters mounted on the tail feathers of free flying tippler pigeons (Columba livia). Wet and dry bulb temperatures were measured using modified transmitters mounted onto free-flying pigeons. These allowed calculation of relative humidity and hence water vapor pressure at flight altitudes. Mean Tb during flight was 42.0 ± 1.3 °C (n = 16). Paired comparisons of a subset of this data indicated that average in-flight Tb increased significantly by 1.2 ± 0.7 °C (n = 7) over that of birds at rest (t = −4.22, P < 0.05, n = 7) within the first 15 min of takeoff. In addition, there was a small but significant increase in Tb with increasing ambient air (Ta) when individuals on replicate flights (n = 35) were considered. Inclusion of water vapor pressure into the regression model did not improve the correlation between body temperature and ambient conditions. Flight Tb also increased a small (0.5 °C) but significant amount (t = 2.827, P < 0.05, n = 8) from the beginning to the end of a flight. The small response of Tb to changing flight conditions presumably reflects the efficiency of convection as a heat loss mechanism during sustained regular flight. The increase in Tb on landing that occurred in some birds was a probable consequence of a sudden reduction in convective heat loss. Accepted: 2 February 1999  相似文献

Summary The cultivation of photosynthetic microorganisms such as the microalga Spirulina platensis can provide an alternative source of food. The water in Mangueira Lagoon (Rio Grande do Sul state, southern Brazil) has several required nutrients for the growth of Spirulina and could be added to culture medium to reduce the cost of producing S. platensis. Although little studied, repeated batch cultivation is a very useful technique because it has a better cost–benefit ratio than other cultivation methods. In a series of runs, we studied the influence of cell concentration, renewal rate and strain on the specific growth rate and biomass productivity of S. platensis during repeated batch cultivation, the runs taking place in 2-l Erlenmeyer flasks for 2160 h at 30 °C and a light intensity of 2500 lux under a 12 h photoperiod. The three factors studied had a significant (P < 0.05) effect on the results (specific growth rate and productivity). Using Zarrouk’s medium, the highest specific growth rate (μX) was 0.111 day−1 while the biomass productivity (P X) was 0.0423 g l−1 day−1, while Mangueira Lagoon water supplemented with 10% Zarrouk’s medium gave μX = 0.113 day−1 and a productivity P X = 0.0467 g l−1 day−1. These values were two to three times higher than the results obtained in batch cultivation, indicating that the repeated batch cultivation of S. platensis is attractive and convenient.  相似文献

Efficient plant regeneration is essential for successful transformation and in vitro polyploidy induction in mulberry. A high frequency (80%) of plant regeneration from hypocotyls occurred under in vitro conditions in mulberry (Morus multicaulis Poir.). We identified three key factors for enhancing successful regeneration based on earlier work: (1) hypocotyl position, (2) the combination and concentration of growth regulators, and (3) the addition of AgNO3. The highest frequency of shoot regeneration was achieved using hypocotyl segments, which are proximal to apical meristems, and the optimal culture conditions were Murashige and Skoog’s (MS) (Murashige and Skoog, 1962) basal medium supplemented with 3.0 mg l−1 6-benzylamino purine, 0.3 mg l−1 indole-3-acetic acid, 0.1% polyvinypyrrolidone, and 1.0 mg/l silver nitrate (AgNO3) under subdued light at 25 ± 2°C. Treating the shoots with 0.2% colchicine (dipping for 72 h) resulted in a 14% tetraploid frequency, whereas a 20% tetraploid frequency resulted from using a 0.25% colchicine (dripping for 5 d) treatment, as determined by chromosome number counts. The diploid plant chromosome number was 28 (2n = 2x = 28) and that of tetraploid plants was 56 (2n = 4x = 56). Regenerated shoots rooted easily in 8–10 d using half-strength basal MS medium with 0.5 mg l−1 indole-3-butyric acid and were successfully established in the soil.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to develop a method to determine the power output at which oxygen uptake (O2) during an incremental exercise test begins to rise non-linearly. A group of 26 healthy non-smoking men [mean age 22.1 (SD 1.4) years, body mass 73.6 (SD 7.4) kg, height 179.4 (SD 7.5) cm, maximal oxygen uptake (O2max) 3.726 (SD 0.363) l · min−1], experienced in laboratory tests, were the subjects in this study. They performed an incremental exercise test on a cycle ergometer at a pedalling rate of 70 rev · min−1. The test started at a power output of 30 W, followed by increases amounting to 30 W every 3 min. At 5 min prior to the first exercise intensity, at the end of each stage of exercise protocol, blood samples (1 ml each) were taken from an antecubital vein. The samples were analysed for plasma lactate concentration [La]pl, partial pressure of O2 and CO2 and hydrogen ion concentration [H+]b. The lactate threshold (LT) in this study was defined as the highest power output above which [La]pl showed a sustained increase of more than 0.5 mmol · l−1 · step−1. The O2 was measured breath-by-breath. In the analysis of the change point (CP) of O2 during the incremental exercise test, a two-phase model was assumed for the 3rd-min-data of each step of the test: X i =at i +b i for i=1,2,…,T, and E(X i )>at i +b for i =T+1,…,n, where X 1, … , X n are independent and ɛ i ∼N(0,σ2). In the first phase, a linear relationship between O2 and power output was assumed, whereas in the second phase an additional increase in O2 above the values expected from the linear model was allowed. The power output at which the first phase ended was called the change point in oxygen uptake (CP-O2). The identification of the model consisted of two steps: testing for the existence of CP and estimating its location. Both procedures were based on suitably normalised recursive residuals. We showed that in 25 out of 26 subjects it was possible to determine the CP-O2 as described in our model. The power output at CP-O2 amounted to 136.8 (SD 31.3) W. It was only 11 W – non significantly – higher than the power output corresponding to LT. The O2 at CP-O2 amounted to 1.828 (SD 0.356) l · min−1 was [48.9 (SD 7.9)% O2 max ]. The [La]pl at CP-O2, amounting to 2.57 (SD 0.69) mmol · l−1 was significantly elevated (P<0.01) above the resting level [1.85 (SD 0.46) mmol · l−1], however the [H+]b at CP-O2 amounting to 45.1 (SD 3.0) nmol · l−1, was not significantly different from the values at rest which amounted to 44.14 (SD 2.79) nmol · l−1. We investigated the bacterial diversity of microbial communities in water-filled, human-made and natural container habitats of the mosquitoes Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus in suburban landscapes of New Orleans, Louisiana in 2003. We collected water samples from three classes of containers, including tires (n = 12), cemetery urns (n = 23), and miscellaneous containers that included two tree holes (n = 19). Total genomic DNA was extracted from water samples, and 16S ribosomal DNA fragments (operational taxonomic units, OTUs) were amplified by PCR and separated by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). The bacterial communities in containers represented diverse DGGE-DNA banding patterns that were not related to the class of container or to the local spatial distribution of containers. Mean richness and evenness of OTUs were highest in water samples from tires. Bacterial phylotypes were identified by comparative sequence analysis of 90 16S rDNA DGGE band amplicons. The majority of sequences were placed in five major taxa: Alpha-, Beta- and Gammaproteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Cyanobacteria, Firmicutes, and an unclassified group; Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes were the predominant heterotrophic bacteria in containers. The bacterial communities in human-made containers consisted mainly of undescribed species, and a phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA sequences suggested that species composition was independent of both container type and the spatial distribution of containers. Comparative PCR-based, cultivation-independent rRNA surveys of microbial communities associated with mosquito habitats can provide significant insight into community organization and dynamics of bacterial species. In the T(1;2)dor var7 multibreak rearrangement the distal 1A-2B segment of the X chromosome of Drosophila melanogaster is juxtaposed to an inverted portion of the heterochromatin of chromosome 2. Analysis of mitotic chromosomes by a series of banding techniques has permitted us precisely to locate the heterochromatic breakpoint of this translocation in the h42 region of 2R. Cloning and sequencing of the eu-heterochromatic junction revealed that the translocated 1A-2B fragment is joined to (AACAC)n repeats, which represent a previously undescribed satellite DNA in D. melanogaster. These repeated sequences have been estimated to account for about 1 Mb of the D. melanogaster genome. The repeats are located mainly in the Y chromosome and in the heterochromatin of the right arm of chromosome 2 (2Rh), where they are colocalized with the Stalker retrotransposon. Since fishery management regulations have shifted much of the groundfish trawl effort in the northeastern Pacific from the continental shelf to the slope, fishery impacts on unassessed demersal slope rockfish species like the aurora rockfish (Sebastes aurora) may have increased. Understanding the life history of these species is a critical first step in developing management strategies to protect them from overharvest. In this study we employ cross-dating methods to validate the annual periodicity of growth increments and investigate the age, growth and maturity of aurora rockfish, a species for which life history information is quite limited. Specimens were collected on an opportunistic basis from Oregon commercial landings and from research cruises, over the years 2003–2006. Age was estimated for 438 individuals using otoliths processed via the break-and-burn method. The maximum estimated age was 118 years for females (n = 324) and 81 years for males (n = 114). The von Bertalanffy growth function showed that males grow faster and reach a smaller maximum size than females (males: L inf = 34, K = 0.09, t 0 = −1.9; females: L inf = 37, K = 0.06, t 0 = −5.5), though both sexes demonstrate relatively slow growth. Visual assessment of ovaries showed that the aurora rockfish is a synchronous spawner with parturition occurring in May and June off Oregon. Female age and length at 50% maturity were calculated at 12.6 years and 26 cm, respectively (n = 307). Maturity and age data provided evidence for a protracted adolescence in this species.  相似文献

Septicemia leads to oxidative stress with overproduction of reactive-oxygen species (ROS) and consumption of endogenous antioxidant enzymes. We tested a twofold hypothesis: (1) does oxidative stress (OxS) induced by sepsis acting alone or in concert with augmented inflammatory processes contributes to sepsis-related vascular dysfunction, and, (2) whether ozone (O3) and l-canavanine (CAV) mitigate the negative impact of the aforementioned phenomena. We investigated the relative impact of treatment with CAV and/or O3 on vascular OxS associated vascular functional changes in septicemic rats. For this study, 60 male Sprague–Dawley rats were used and divided into six experimental groups (n = 10): control group (C), sham-operated (Sham), septicemic rats (S), S rats treated with CAV (100 mg/kg. i.p; S + CAV), S rats treated with O3 (1.2 mg/kg, i.p.; S + O3) and S rats treated with both O3 and CAV (S + O3 + CAV). After 22 h, the mean arterial blood pressure (MAP), the aortic ring vascular reactivity to phenylephrine, abdominal aortic blood flow (AABF), serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and plasma nitrite/nitrate (NOx) concentration were measured. In addition, hepatic antioxidant enzyme activities sodium dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) were estimated. Septicemia caused significant elevation of serum TNF-α (p < 0.001) and plasma NOx (p < 0.001) and significant (p < 0.001) reduction of AABF (p < 0.001), aortic vascular response to phenylephrine (p < 0.001), MAP (p < 0.001) and hepatic SOD and GSH-Px activity (p < 0.001) compared with the C group, while treatment with O3 and/or CAV induced significant amelioration of all those increases. Abnormalities were attenuated to a similar extent with treatment with both O3 and CAV. These results suggested that concomitant administration of O3 and CAV alleviated the compromised vascular reactivity in septicemic conditions and prevent its progression into septic shock compared with each alone.  相似文献

A size-selected genomic library comprising 280,000 colonies and representing ≈18% of the chickpea genome, was screened for (GA)n, (GAA)n and (TAA)n microsatellite-containing clones, of which 389 were sequenced. The majority (∼75%) contained perfect repeats; interrupted, interrupted compound and compound repeats were only present in 6%–9% of cases. (TAA)-microsatellites contained the longest repeats, with unit numbers from 9 to 131. For 218 loci primers could be designed and used for the detection of microsatellite length polymorphisms in six chickpea breeding cultivars, as well as in C. reticulatum and C. echinospermum, wild, intercrossable relatives of chickpea. A total of 174 primer pairs gave interpretable banding patterns, 137 (79%) of which revealed at least two alleles on native polyacrylamide gels. A total of 120 sequence-tagged microsatellite site (STMS) markers were genetically mapped in 90 recombinant inbred lines from an inter-species cross between C. reticulatum and the chickpea cultivar ICC 4958. Markers could be arranged in 11 linkage groups (at a LOD score of 4) covering 613 cM. Clustering as well as random distribution of loci was observed. Segregation of 46 markers (39%) deviated significantly (P ≥ 0.05) from the expected 1:1 ratio. The majority of these loci (73%) were located in three distinct regions of the genome. Interspecific hybrids involving the cultivated C. arabica (2n = 4x = 44, EaEaCaCa) and two related diploid species (2n = 2x = 22), C. eugenioides (EE) and C. liberica (LL), were produced and analyzed for their relative genome affinity using different complementary approaches, including chromosome association analysis, genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) and pollen fertility. The mean arm pairing frequency (c) and the relative affinity index (x) of triploid hybrids with known genome combinations were used as a measure of chromosome homology. Triploid hybrids were highly sterile as a result of meiotic abnormalities (fertility ranged from 1 to 15 %). Nevertheless, all hybrids exhibited a significant occurrence of genome affinities (x = 0.96 for EaCaE and 0.81 for EaCaL). Further analysis using the GISH approach revealed that C. eugenioides was more closely related to C. arabica than to C. liberica, which was in agreement with the ancestral history of the allotetraploid C. arabica. The absence of incompatibility barriers at the stylar level in the flowers of the triploid hybrids indicates the possibility of desirable gene transfer through breeding strategies.  相似文献

The molecular geometries, vibrational properties, and thermodynamic properties of the clusters (Br2GaN3) n (n = 1–4) were studied at the B3LYP/6-311+G* level. The optimized clusters (Br2GaN3) n (n = 2–4) were all found to possess a cyclic structure consisting of Ga atoms bridged by the α-nitrogen of the azide groups. A discussion of the relationships between the geometrical parameters and the degree of oligomerization n is provided. Features in the IR spectra were assigned by vibrational analysis. Trends in thermodynamic properties with temperature and degree of oligomerization n are discussed. Thermodynamic analysis of the gas-phase reaction showed that the formation of the clusters (Br2GaN3) n (n = 2–4) is thermodynamically favorable considering the enthalpies at 298.2 K. The calculated results for the Gibbs free energies were negative, which indicates that the oligomerizations can occur spontaneously at 298.2 K.  相似文献

Siberian flying squirrel (Pteromys volans) has declined in Finland and it is considered an endangered species. We studied microsatellite variation in four flying squirrel populations in a fragmented landscape in Finland to determine the amount of gene flow and genetic diversity in the populations. Demographic data from these areas suggest that the populations are declining. All the populations are significantly differentiated (F ST = 0.23). The most notable result is the high degree of differentiation between two adjacent populations (F ST = 0.11) and low genetic variability (number of alleles 3.0) in one of the populations. These findings suggest problems in dispersal and possible fragmentation effects in the landscape where only 10–20% of habitat favorable for the flying squirrel is left. Conservation ensuring dispersal should be urgently considered. Future studies should concentrate on the modeling of the population viability and on the effects of inbreeding in these small populations. A theoretical study of L-proline-nH2O (n = 1–3) has been performed using the hybrid DFT-B3LYP and MP2 methods together with the 6-311++G(d,p) basis set. The results show that the P2 conformer is energetically favorable when forming a hydrated structure, and the hydration of the carboxyl group leads to the greatest stability. For hydrated complexes, the adiabatic and vertical singlet–triplet excitation energies tend to decrease with the addition of water molecules. The hydration energy indicates that in the hydrated complexes the order of stability is: binding site 2 > binding site 1 > binding site 3, and binding site 12 > binding site 23 > binding site 13. As water molecules are added, the stabilities of these hydrated structures gradually increase. In addition, an infrared frequency analysis indicated that there are some differences in the low-frequency range, which are mainly dominated by the O–H stretching or bending vibrations of different water molecules. All of these results should aid our understanding of molecular behavior and provide reference data for further studies of biological systems.  相似文献

Using the cell pressure probe, the effects of temperature on hydraulic conductivity (Lp; osmotic water permeability), solute permeability (permeability coefficient, Ps), and reflection coefficients (σs) were measured on internodes of Chara corallina, Klein ex Willd., em R.D.W.. For the first time, complete sets of transport coefficients were obtained in the range between 10 and 35 °C which provided evidence about pathways of water and solutes as they move across the plasma membrane (water channel and bilayer arrays). Test solutes used to check for the selectivity of water channels were monohydric alcohols of different molecular size and shape (ethanol, n-propanol, iso-propanol, and tert-butanol) and heavy water (HDO). Within the limits of accuracy, Q10 values for Lp and for the diffusive water permeability (Pd) were identical (Q10 for Lp = 1.29 ± 0.17 (± SD; n = 15 cells) and Q10 for Pd = 1.25 ± 0.16 (n = 5 cells)). The Q10 values were equivalent to activation energies of Ea = 16.8 ± 6.4 and 16.6 ± 10.0 kJ · mol−1, respectively, which is similar to that of self-diffusion or of viscous flow of water. The Q10 values and activation energies for Ps of the alcohols were significantly larger (ethanol: Q10 = 1.68 ± 0.16, Ea = 37.1 ± 5.9 kJ · mol−1; n-propanol: Q10 =  1.75 ± 0.40, Ea = 43.1 ± 15.3 kJ · mol−1; iso-propanol: Q10 = 2.12 ± 0.42, Ea =  52.2 ± 14.6 kJ · mol−1; tert-butanol: Q10 = 2.13 ± 0.56, Ea = 51.6 ± 17.1 kJ · mol−1; ±SD; n = 5 to 6 cells). Effects of temperature on reflection coefficients were most pronounced. With increasing temperature, σs values of the alcohols decreased and those of HDO increased. The data indicate that water and solutes use different pathways when crossing the membrane. Ordinary and isotopic water use water channels and the other test solutes use the bilayer array (composite transport model of membrane). Changes in σs values with temperature were found to be a sensitive measure for the open/closed state of water channels. The decrease of σs with temperature was theoretically predicted from the temperature dependence of Ps and Lp. Differences between predicted and measured values of σs allowed estimation of the bypass flow (slippage) of solutes through water channels which did not completely exclude test solutes. The permeability of channels depended on the structure and size of test solutes. It is concluded that water channels are much less selective than is usually thought. Since water channels represent single-file or no-pass pores, solutes drag along considerable amounts of water as they diffuse across channels. This results in low overall values of σs. The σs of HDO was extremely low. Its response to temperature was opposite to that for the σs of the alcohols. This suggested a stronger effect of temperature on the hydraulic (osmotic) than on the diffusive water flow across individual water channels, i.e. a differential sensitivity of different mechanisms to temperature.
