The flattened, irregularly shaped and lobed or dissected leaves of Apinagia riedelii , A. latifolia , A. goejei , Mourera aspera and Marathrum utile (subfamily Podostemoideae) are ensiform in structure. After the typical bifacial inception, further growth of leaves proceeds in the midrib area, i.e. in the median plane of the leaf. The lower leaf zone is characterized by a sheath that orientates 'at the side of the blade', i.e. at the adaxial edge of the sword-like leaf. The ensiform blades are lobed, incised or pinnately dissected with the tips terminated in elongated threads or thin filaments. Leaves of Apinagia riedelii resemble pinnately dissected compound leaves. The dissected structure represents a secondary superimposition of the ensiform shape and a parallel development to compound leaves. It is interpreted as an adaptation to the rapid current, established in the floating shoots of these aquatic plants. The basal portions of main shoots and successive branches are fused due to a retarded separation. Fusion of this kind has been termed a syndesmy. The fused region of shoots is superseded by the fusion of the lower leaf zones of (distichously positioned) adjacent leaves, occurring at their margins. The fused leaf bases form a cavity for the terminal flower bud of each shoot and cover it in the form of a hood. The flower buds are hidden from external view. The meristematic growing zones are thus protected and enclosed within the syndesmic plant body which, in this way, attains the 'thalloid' appearance especially developed in Apinagia goejei and A. latifolia but also present in the other species. Mourera fluviatilis from northern South America is a spectacular member of the Podostemaceae (river-weeds). Its raceme-like inflorescences are up to 64 cm long and have 40–90 flowers arranged in two opposite rows. Inflorescence development starts with the initiation of a double-sheathed (dithecous) bract in a terminal position. All lateral bracts (again dithecous) are initiated in basipetal order along the two flanks of the inflorescence. Each gap between two neighboring bracts contains a single flower. The flowers are bisexual, each with a whorl of 16–20 ligulate tepals and 14–40 stamens, which are arranged in one or two whorls. Floral development starts with the formation of a girdling primordium rim around a two-lobed primordial gynoecium. Stamen and tepal initiation is centrifugal on the girdling primordium. The anthers are introrse or extrorse, depending on stamen position. Seedlings develop two entire, threadlike cotyledons, followed by forked filamentous leaves, which arise from the plumular pole. The radicular pole of the hypocotyl develops into a claw-shaped holdfast that fixes the young plant to the rock. The developmental morphologies of Mourera fluviatilis and other members of the Mourera group (including Lonchostephus and Tulasneantha) fit well with the Podostemoideae bauplan known from other New World genera, such as Apinagia and Marathrum.  相似文献

Djinga is a monotypic genus restricted to the Cameroon Ridge (‘Dorsale Camerounaise’) of NW Cameroon. Besides the type locality Mount Djinga (Adamawa Province, near Tignère), it also grows in waterfalls near Mount Oku (NW Province). This paper describes the structure and development of Djinga felicis using scanning electron microscopy and microtome sections. Cusset's protologue is enriched considerably. Roots are green, dorsiventrally flattened and adherent to submerged rocks. They are broad ribbons or crusts (up to 1 cm broad) which branch exogenously. Root‐borne shoots (up to 17 cm) have filamentous leaves with sheaths and (occasionally) attached stipules. Flowers are borne as part of reproductive short shoots which arise exogenously along the stems and endogenously along the roots. Djinga shows non‐axillary stem branching. Reproductive shoots along the main stem usually stay short. They arise from the abaxial side of double‐sheathed leaves, a key innovation of Podostemoideae. These short shoots shift into pocket‐like stem positions clearly below their associated leaves. Each flower bud inside a spathella is erect, but with an inclined ovary. The flowers are unistaminate with a broad connective. Unlike many other Podostemoideae, the tricolpate pollen grains are arranged in both dyads and monads. The ovary is globular and unilocular. The Hawaiian genus Brighamia (Lobeliaceae) was published in 1868 as monotypic, and it long remained so, even though it occurs on four islandS. It is a spectacular herb with a simple, thickened, fleshy, stem 1–5 m tall, with the leaves terminal and crowded, and subtended by them are the fragrant, salver-shaped flowers 12–15 cm in length. Further explorations have revealed new localities, mostly on the cliff faces of the windward sides of the islands. The present investigation has revealed significant differential characters in the calyx lobes, the flower colour, the hairiness of the filament tube and the anther connective, and the nature of the seed testa. Hence, the following new taxa are described: B.citrina var. napaliensis, B.rockii and B.rockii forma longiloba and B.remyi.  相似文献

A morphological study of vegetative and reproductive structures was carried out on the tribe Colletieae (Rhamnaceae) composed of six genera and 20 species. The plant habit variation, from trees (up to 8 m high) to prostrate shrubs and tangled bushes, suggests structural differences within the group. All the species have an architecture represented by a sequence of monopodial shoots with limited growth, linked sympodially and with acrotonic dichasial ramification. Foliage leaves are decussate and an axillary complex with two serial meristems is associated with each leaf axil. Ancillary shoots (thorn-tipped branches, short shoots, secondary branches and reproductive shoots) are present at the nodes. A single structural plan was observed throughout the tribe. Most of the variability may be ascribed to different strategies for adaptation to environmental conditions, specially xeromorphy. Reproductive structures, in terms of inflorescences, also show conspicuous variation throughout the tribe. Three different models are described; in the first two models individual flowers or 3–7 flowered cymes constitute the paracladia of either deciduous monotelic synflorescences, or of synflorescences proliferating into vegetative long shoots; in the third, uniflorous paracladia arise from perennial short-shoots. Nevertheless, a link within them can be established through steps of truncation, proliferation, reduction and acquisition of rhythmic growth.  相似文献

Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) flowers are used for coloring and flavoring food and also as fresh-cut and dried flowers. The most important characteristics which contribute to the ornamental value of safflower are flower color and spinelessness. The objective of this study was to determine the inheritance mode and the number of genes controlling spininess and flower color in some Iranian genotypes of safflower. The results indicated that the existence of spines on the leaves and bracts of safflower is controlled by a single dominant gene in which the spiny phenotype was completely dominant to spineless. In some crosses, flower color was controlled by two epistatic loci each with two alleles, resulting in a ratio of 13:3 in the segregating F2 population for plants with orange and yellow flowers. Also, other mechanisms of genetic control, such as duplicate dominance and duplicate recessive types of epistasis, were observed for flower color in other crosses that led to ratios of 7:9 and 15:1 for plants with orange and yellow flowers, respectively. The results suggest that for ornamental use or in the food dying industry, genotypes with orange or yellow flowers and without spines on the leaves and bracts can be produced.  相似文献

Twelve palm flowers in one piece of Dominican amber and a single flower in a second piece are described as Trithrinax dominicana sp. nov. (Thrinacinae: Coryphoideae), representing the first fossil record of this genus. There are no members of Trithrinax in the Greater Antilles today. Two staminate flowers in Mexican amber are described as Socratea brownii sp. nov. (Iriarteinae: Arecoideae) and represent the first fossils of this genus. Saxifraga bryoides L. is an abundant species in the subnival and nival zone of the European mountains. First flowering occurs, at the earliest, 6 weeks after snowmelt. This is a remarkably long prefloration period in an environment with a short growing season. To gain more information about the developmental strategies of this species, the timing and the dynamics of flower bud formation and vegetative shoot growth were studied at sites with growing seasons of different lengths at two subnival locations (2650 and 2880 m a.s.l.) in the Tyrolean Alps. At an early, mid and late thawing site, individuals emerging from the winter snow were labelled. Reproductive and vegetative shoots were sampled at regular intervals throughout the growing season and analysed, using different microscopic techniques. Flower buds of S. bryoides develop in three cohorts. Provided the growing season is long enough, cohorts 1 and 2 come into flower, whereas cohort 3 buds remain primordial and continue to develop after winter. New flower primordia appear as day-length decreases from August on, which suggests a short-day requirement for floral initiation. At the end of the growing season, flower buds of different stages are present, but only primordial stages survive winter. Thus, flower buds of S. bryoides develop largely or even completely in the year of anthesis. Developmental dynamics were quite similar at the different sites. Time from flower initiation until anthesis took about 2 months, independently of whether flowers were formed within one or two seasons. All of the leaves on vegetative short-stem shoots turnover within a growing season. Leaves having passed winter continuously decline and are replaced by newly formed ones (21±3 at the mid-thawing site and 18±1 leaves at the short-season site). An individual leaf functions therefore, on average, about 12 months. In most years the seed crop of S. bryoides results mainly from the first cohort of flowers in an individual. In a changing climate with a prolonged growing season, the chance of two cohorts to develop mature seeds from flower cohorts 1 and 2 would increase.  相似文献

对产于西藏的青甘韭就其花叶的开发利用现状进行了介绍,并对芳香物质与常规营养品质进行了测试分析。结果表明:(1)产地农牧民将青甘韭在花期采收地上部(包括叶与花)砸碎阴干处理后作为佐料食用。(2)青甘韭具有一定观赏价值,可在花镜、花坛、专题园、林下(作为地被)、假山等景观中应用。(3)青甘韭花和叶中芳香物质含量差异非常明显,在花中检测到23种芳香物质,可分为7大类;在叶中检测到8种芳香物质,可分为3大类;花和叶中共有芳香物质为丙醛、乙醚、二甲基二硫化物、二丙基二硫化物4种,除二甲基二硫化物相对含量在花和叶中比较接近外,其他3种差异巨大。VC、可溶性总糖和可溶性蛋白质含量均是花高于叶,花中含量分别是叶中的1.4倍、2.4倍和7.4倍,且均呈极显著差异。  相似文献

Six species of Cabomba have been examined although the anatomy of the vegetative axes is based on the study of only C. caroliniana and C. palaeformis. A plant consists of an erect short shoot with decussate leaves which bears axillary flowering shoots and rhizomes. A rhizome bears decussate leaves and may also form axillary flowering shoots or turn upward and become a new short shoot. The phyllotaxies of the flowering shoots are proximately decussate or ternate (C. piauhyensis). The flowering shoots with decussate phyllotaxy change to 1/3 phyllotaxy distally; they bear axillary flowers proximally, and extra-axillary flowers distally. Flowering shoots with ternate phyllotaxy do not change distally but each produces first axillary and then extra-axillary flowers. Decussate vegetative axes and flowering shoots have four vascular bundles; ternate vegetative axes and flowering shoots have six vascular bundles, distantly paired into two or three vascular bundle-pairs, respectively. An elliptical vascular plexus occurs at each node. Each leaf receives one bundle-pair from one trace and each flower three bundle-pairs. A two-level receptacular vascular plexus occurs in flowers; the proximal, larger portion provides traces to perianth and stamens and the distal, smaller portion becomes carpellary traces. Each of the three sepals typically receives five branch traces from a basal principal trace, and each of the three petals receives, typically, three branch traces from a basal principal trace. Sepals and petals generally occur in a single, basally connate whorl. Each stamen receives one trace. Each stamen of three-stamen flowers is opposite a petal; each stamen of six-stamen flowers is aligned with an interval between a petal and adjacent sepal. Each staminal trace, which is just above the principal petal trace, in a three-petal flower, is frequently adnate to the latter trace. Each carpel receives one principal trace from the distal, small extension of the receptacular plexus, and each principal trace becomes three conventional veins of a carpel. Ovules may be borne directly over one of the veins or in any position between veins and are supplied by branches of the nearest vein or nearest two veins. All traces, ovular supply veins and the proximal portions of all veins are amphicribral. The several anatomical and morphological differences in vegetative axes and flowers between Cabomba and Brasenia suggest a greater taxonomic distance between the two genera than commonly supposed. It is suggested that extra-axillary flowers in 1/3 helical and ternate flowering shoots of Cabomba might be advantageous in preventing anthesis of flowers beneath peltate leaves. The aberrant position might be the initial evolutionary step toward what, in other nymphaeaceous genera, has shifted each flower to an adjacent helix. It is proposed that the zigzag stem accompanying the trigonal and sympodial flowering shoots may offer greater stability and floatability in water than the monopodial form. Several suggestions are offered for the variability of ovular positions: 1) the variability is a vestige of former laminar placentation in conduplicate carpels; 2) it is a vestige of a primitive condition antedating the current close association of ovules with ventral carpellary veins; 3) it is an early stage of evolution which might have terminated in laminar placentation and cantharophily, but which was replaced by a trend toward myophily.  相似文献

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The leaf rosettes of the carnivorous Pinguicula moranensis follow a spiral phyllotaxis approaching a Fibonacci pattern while the stalked flowers arise from extra-axillary sites between the leaves. The organization of this rosette has been discussed by various authors, with various results. The aim of the present study was to clarify the development of the flowering rosettes of this species. METHODS: The formation of the rosettes is shown with the aid of scanning electron microscopy. KEY RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: The scanning electron micrographs show that each flower terminates an article (sympodial unit). The leaves of consecutive articles of such sympodially constructed rosettes are arranged along a spiral Fibonacci pattern (with divergence angles around 137 degrees). This results from homodromy of leaf initiation in consecutive articles with the first leaf (prophyll) of a new article inserted in an obliquely transverse position next to the floral scape that terminates the former article. Sympodial construction of flowering shoots and leaf rosettes is also known from Aloe, Gunnera and Philodendron. As a by-product of this study, the unidirectional development of the Pinguicula flower is confirmed and discussed.  相似文献

Seedlings and flowering plants of Tagetes patula present secretory reservoirs similar to many other Asteraceae which produce poly acetylenes. These poly acetylene reservoirs (PRs) that contain both thiophenes and essential oils, show a blue-yellow fluorescence and a red colour when observed in the UV and conventional microscope respectively. In the root of the seedlings two arrays of six PRs arise abutting on the endodermis. PRs of branch roots are connected to those in the parent roots. A single layer of "epithelial" non-specialised cells forms the secretory tissue. In the hypocotyl four PRs, characterised by a uniseriate epithelium, arise in the cortex in front of the vascular bundles. In the epicotyl, instead, we found eight PRs localised between the vascular bundles. In the cotyledons, in the leaves and in the flower bracts there are only secretory cavities. In the flowering plant, PRs also occur in the corolla of the tubular and ligulate flowers of the inflorescence, with a typically biseriate epithelium.  相似文献

An investigation was made of the number of preformed organs in winter buds of 3-year-old reiterated complexes of the 'Granny Smith' cultivar. Winter bud content was studied with respect to bud position: terminal buds were compared on both long shoots and spurs according to branching order and shoot age, while axillary buds were compared between three zones (distal, median and proximal) along 1-year-old annual shoots in order 1. The percentage of winter buds that differentiated into inflorescences was determined and the flowers in each bud were counted for each bud category. The other organ categories considered were scales and leaf primordia. The results confirmed that a certain number of organs must be initiated before floral differentiation occurred. The minimum limit was estimated at about 15 organs on average, including scales. Total number of lateral organs formed was shown to vary with both bud position and meristem age, increasing from newly formed meristems to 1- and 2-year-old meristems on different shoot types. These differences in bud organogenesis depending on bud position, were consistent with the morphogenetic gradients observed in apple tree architecture. Axillary buds did not contain more than 15 organs on average and this low organogenetic activity of the meristems was related to a low number of flowers per bud. In contrast, the other bud categories contained more than 15 differentiated organs on average and a trade-off was observed between leaf and flower primordia. The ratio between the number of leaf and flower primordia per bud varied with shoot type. When the terminal buds on long shoots and spurs were compared, those on long shoots showed more flowers and a higher ratio of leaf to flower primordia.  相似文献

Viola (Violaceae) is one of the largest genera in angiosperms. This genus is essentially classified into stemless and stemmed groups based on growth morphology. However, Viola mirabilis var. subglabra is an exception in having intermediate flowering characteristics; cleistogamous (CL) flowers are formed in the axils of stem leaves, whereas chasmogamous (CH) flowers arise from basal rosettes (radical CH (CH(r)) flowers) and also in the axils of the stem (axially CH (CH(a)) flowers). To understand why the pattern of flower production varies in this Viola species, flower production was investigated in 10 Japanese populations from Hokkaido to the western part of Honshu in 2014 and 2015. Furthermore, flower characteristics were also compared between CH(r) and CH(a) flowers in Hokkaido. In this species, the production of CH flowers varied among individuals, and they were categorized into three groups, individuals that produced (i) only CH(r) flowers, (ii) only CH(a) flowers and (iii) both CH flowers. The frequency of these groups differed among populations, but some individuals changed the category between 2014 and 2015. Thus, the production of CH(r) and CH(a) flowers plastically changes depending on individual conditions and/or environmental factors. On the other hand, CH(r) and CH(a) flowers differed in flower size and flowering phenology. These results suggest that two types of CH flowers may play different roles in reproduction in each population, but fruit sets and seed sets did not differ between two types of CH flowers.  相似文献

Abstract The floral biology of Magnolia hypoleuca , a tall tree species widely distributed in Japan, was studied in a deciduous broad-leaved forest in Hokkaido near the northern limit of distribution of the species. The flower is large, protogynous and nectarless. Its petals close after the female stage and again after the male stage. The mean duration of flowering of an individual flower is 3–4 days, while the flowering period of an individual tree lasts up to 40 days. The main pollinators of the flowers were beetles. Success of pollination is assumed to be affected by weather conditions at anthesis. Average fruit sets (ratios of fruits to flowers) were 13–25%. Hand-pollination of 44 flowers produced a significantly higher fruit set (28 fruits) than control flowers (33/133). These results suggest that the fruit set is limited by pollination. The frequency of infertile ovules was higher in controls than in hand-pollinated fruits, indicating that the seed set was also limited by pollination. We propose a mimicry hypothesis in which the non-rewarding female-stage flower mimics the rewarding male-stage flower to explain the short life-span of an individual flower, the long flowering period of an individual tree, and the coexistence of flowers of various stages on a single tree.  相似文献

Ledermanniella (c. 44 species) is the largest podostemoid genus in Africa. This paper deals with the structure and development of the Ghanaian species Ledermanniella bowlingii (J.B. Hall) C. Cusset (subgenus Ledermanniella). Characters typical for L. bowlingii include: green ribbon-like roots with exogenous lateral roots and endogenous shoots up to 120 cm; most leaves 3–7 times forked, with intrapetiolar stipules; flowers solitary or in clusters, borne on elongate stems or directly on roots; each flower bud inverted within a spathella; flowers unistaminate; tricolpate pollen in dyads; ovary mainly unilocular but bilocular at the base due to a rudimentary septum; mature capsule with eight ribs, 1.0–1.8 mm long, containing 12–34 seeds, dehiscing by two equal valves; capsule stalk with pedicel (10 mm) and gynophore (2 mm); silica bodies absent in all plant parts. Several characters of L. bowlingii are described here for the first time. The paper shows that accurate morphological analyses of African Podostemaceae are badly needed. This paper is an attempt to discuss the relationship and phylogeny within the genus Lindera, based upon on analysis of shortened brachlets, on which the inflorescences are inserted, and other morphological characters. The shortened branchlets are metamorphic shoots which are often at the transitional stage between branchles and inflorescences. The advanced shortened branchlets usually with an undeveloped terminal bud, posses scale-like leaves, and the inflorescences so formed are sessile and aggregate. In primitive taxa, such as Lindera nacusua (Don) Merr., L. gracilipes H. W. Li and L. tanchuanensis Feng et H. S. Kung, the branchlet is usually not shortened, with well-developed terminal bud, forming a single axillary pseudo-umbel, while its peducle is usually very slender and stamens of pistillate flower sometimes more or less developed. The leaves on the upper part of branchlet are normal and the lower part of branchlet becoming bracteal, In the genus the development of shortened branchlets (Fig. 1.) from the ones in the primitive taxa to the ones in the advanced taxa may be found. Other important morphological characters are the length of peducles. The peduncle is usually slender in the primitive taxa, short or even sessile in the adanced taxa. There are two types of venation in the genus: the pinnate and trinerved. As the primitive group trib. Perseeae Mez shows pinnate veins, pinnate ventation in Lindera is more primitive than trinerved one. It might be possible that a transition occure in the genus from evergereen habit to deciduous one as shown in Lindera glauca B1., L. angustifolia Cheng and L. praecox B1., whose leaves tardily wither but persistent over winter. The relationships within Lindera are shown in a hypothetical genealogical tree (Fig. 4), which includes the system of Litsea, developed parallelly with Lindera. From the study of morphological characters, the author infers that both Lindera and Litsea have originated from a common ancestory related to the tribe Cinnamomeae Baill. which has a single axillary inflorescence, with hermaphrodite flowers, 4-locular anthers and penninerved to trinerved leaves.  相似文献

The shape and regularity of bell pepper (Capsicum annuumL.)fruit are known to be determined at a very early stage of flowerdevelopment. Small, flattened fruit which are commonly parthenocarpicdevelop under low-temperatures (below 16 °C) from flowerswith enlarged ovaries. In such flowers self-pollination is notefficient because of the large distance between the stigma andstamens. Flower deformation of this kind is common during thewinter season. In the present study it was found that deformationsof flowers, similar to those found under low temperatures, wereinduced in 15 d by complete removal of fruit from plants growingunder night-time temperatures of 18 °C. Only flowers whichwere at the pre-anthesis stage at the time of fruit removalwere deformed by this treatment. Removal of leaves from thelower part of the plant (source leaves) partially reduced theeffect of fruit removal on the shape of the flowers and on subsequentfruit morphology. Fruit removal induced significant increasesin the concentrations of starch and reducing sugars, but notsucrose, in the flower buds. Likewise, flower buds of plantswhich grew under a night-time temperature of 12 °C containedmore carbohydrate than those which grew at 18 °C. Theseresults suggest that flower morphology in pepper is at leastpartly controlled by source-sink relationships. 横断山区海拔4200米以上的高原面上分布着数以百计的冰蚀湖泊;4000米以下的山地有十余个断陷构造湖。湖泊中发育着独具特色的水生植被,本文据1976—1985年的实地调查,对横断山脉主要湖泊的生态地理学特征作了分析。共划分出41个相当于群系的群落类型,其中沉水群落就有18个。与长江中下游的大型浅水湖相比,这里的群落类型多样,地理成分复杂。群落分布区类型计有6个,兼有世界广布、旧世界热带分布、北温带分布、东亚分布和北极高山分布的。此外,高山水菲是浮叶水马齿群落等仅为横断山区亚高山和高山地带所特有。横断山区湖泊植被具明显的垂直地带性。根据湖泊群落组成、结构和生态环境的差异,可以划分出5个湖泊植被带,即I.山地亚热带;Ⅱ.山地暖温带;III.高山寒温带;Ⅳ 高山寒带和V.极高山冰雪带。最后,本文报道了横断山区亚高山带和高山带湖泊中杉藻群落,高山水菲群落等8个类型的组成和结构。  相似文献

The concentration of soluble proteins in open flowers of sweet orange (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck) was about 35% of the protein content found in green leaves, while ovary and stigma, with attached style, contained up to 85%. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) indicates that flowers and leaves contained ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase-oxygenase (Rubisco). At least 12 polypeptides, ranging from 22 to 100 kDa, were more distinct in flowers than in leaves. The polypeptide band at about 100 kDa in the flower extract suggests the presence of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPCase) in citrus flowers. Activity of Rubisco and PEPCase, expressed in μmol g tissue fresh weight−1 hr−1, averaged 14.2 and 64.6 for intact open flowers, and 547.9 and 63.3 for the leaves, respectively. Starch and reducing sugars were 1.2- and 8.4-fold higher, respectively, and dark respiration rates were about five-fold greater for open flowers than fully expanded, sun leaves. Quinic and malic acids made up about 96% of the organic acids found in flowers and leaves. Ascorbic, citric, fumaric, and shikimic acids were in small or trace amounts. The large accumulation of starch and soluble sugars, in addition to the presence and activity of Rubisco and PEPCase, indicates that the flowers of sweet orange would have some capability to perform photosynthetic CO2 assimilation, the metabolites of which might play some important role in flower development and fruit setting.  相似文献
