Summary During the course of studies on the ecology ofFusarium udum Butler, the incitant of wilt disease of pigeon-pea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.),Aspergillus nidulans was found to tolerate higher temperatures of summer, and other species includingF. udum were suppressed in field soil. The population ofA. nidulans increased in the soil incubated at 40±2°C at pH6 and 7 while the population ofF. udum was highly suppressed. The wilt disease of pigeon-pea was significantly suppressed at 38±2°C in the soil having a mixture of the inocula ofF. udum andA. nidulans whereas at lower temperature (25±2°C) no significant impact ofA. nidulans on the disease was found. On the basis of this study an integrated use of higher temperature, alkaline pH andA. nidulans has been suggested for biological control of wilt disease of pigeon-pea.  相似文献

The causal fungus of frosty mildew inQuercus acutissima was taxonomically studied. Brown spots with conical white to yellowish tufts of the causal, fungus developed on the leaves, followed by successive defoliation. The fungus was regarded as a new species ofMycopappus, M. quercus, from the morphology of the multicellular propagules. The ascogenous stage and true conidia of the fungus were not observed, although sclerotia were formed on the fallen diseased leaves.  相似文献

采用经典分类学研究方法,对河北师范大学植物标本馆(HBNU)等国内多个标本馆保存的中国丝瓜藓属直蒴组(Pohlia Hedw.section Cacodon Lindb.ex Broth.)及其近缘类群植物标本共计130余号进行了分类学分析鉴定,并对所确定的中国产直蒴组物种的芽胞大小、形状及叶原基数量和长度等形态学特征进行比较分析,以期为中国丝瓜藓属直蒴组的分类学研究提供理论依据。结果表明:(1)经鉴定中国丝瓜藓属直蒴组植物共有8种——夭命丝瓜藓[Pohlia annotina(Hedw.)Lindb.]、糙枝丝瓜藓[P.camptotrachela(Ren.Card.)Broth.]、林地丝瓜藓[P.drummondii(Müll.Hal.)Andr.]、疣齿丝瓜藓[P.flexuosa Harv.]、纤毛丝瓜藓[P.hisae T.J.Kop.et J.X.Luo]、异芽丝瓜藓[P.leucostoma(BoschSande Lac.)M.Fleisch.]、念珠丝瓜藓[P.lutescens(Limpr.)H.Lindb.]和卵蒴丝瓜藓[P.proligera(Kindb.ex Breidl.)Lindb.ex Arnell]。(2)中国丝瓜藓属直蒴组植物的重要鉴别特征是在假根或叶腋处生有芽胞,而且芽胞形状以及叶原基形状和数量在直蒴组中存在差异,如念珠丝瓜藓具有假根生芽胞,而疣齿丝瓜藓具有两型芽胞。(3)对所鉴定的中国丝瓜藓属直蒴组8种植物的识别特征、生境及其与相近种的关系进行了详细描述,并绘制了形态特征墨线图。  相似文献

The genetic variation between two allopatric populations ofBulnesia retama and that ofB. schickendantzii andB. foliosa was investigated. The Peruvian population ofB. retama showed low values of P (0.117) and He (0.057) compared to those in the Argentine population with P = 0.59 and He = 0.269;B. schickendantzii showed P = 0.54 andB. foliosa P = 0.17. Genetic identity between the latter was 0.836 and between the allopatric populations ofB. retama was 0.89; the Peruvian population had reduced allelic variation per locus (A = 1.176) in comparison to the Argentine population (A = 1.955). The values of A, P, He andWright's fixation indices suggest that the Peruvian population could have originated from a single or very few migrants from southern latitudes (founder effect).  相似文献

Laboratory, greenhouse and field studies were conducted to determine the allelopathic potential ofMikania micrantha H.B.K. on the germination and growth of three weeds, namelyAsystasia intrusa Bl.,Chrysopogon aciculatus (Retz.) Trin. andPaspalum conjugatum Berg. The plant height of the test species decreased with increasing amounts of debris when either leaf or root debris of Mikania was present on the soil surface or incorporated into the soil. In general, incorporated debris caused greater reduction in height and seedling fresh weight than debris placed on the soil surface. Paspalum was more sensitive to either root or leaf of Mikania when incorporated into soil than on the soil surface. Leachate of Mikania leaf caused a significant reduction in radicle length and fresh weight of the seedlings of the test species. However, only Paspalum seeds showed significant decrease in germination when exposed to leaf leachate. Full-strength extract of either leaf or root caused a significant decrease in both germination and fresh weight of the test species. At the highest concentration, root extract of Mikania caused a marked reduction of radicle elongation of Paspalum.  相似文献

Biotic factors in the rhizosphere and their effect on the growth ofPlantago major L. ssp.pleiosperma Pilger (Great plantain) were studied. In a pot experiment the effect on shoot growth of the addition of 2.5% rhizosphere soil at four levels of phosphate was highly dependent on the availability of phosphate: a promoting effect at low phosphate levels was observed while a reducing effect occurred at higher phosphate levels. As the roots were infected with vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi in the treatment with rhizosphere soil, two other experiments were set up to separate effects of the indigenous VAM fungi from effects of the total rhizosphere population. The uptake of phosphate and shoot growth was not decreased at higher phosphate availability when VAM inoculum was added alone or in combination with rhizosphere soil. The growth reducing effect of the rhizosphere soil could therefore not be ascribed only to mycorrhizal infection. The results suggest that biotic factors in the rhizosphere soil affect the phosphate uptake ofPlantago major ssp.pleiosperma. This may, under conditions of phosphate limitation, lead to an increase of phosphate stress and, subsequently, a growth reduction. Futhermore, it is concluded that VAM fungi, as part of the rhizosphere population, may compensate this phosphate stress by enhancing the phosphate uptake.Grassland Species Research Group Publication No. 148.  相似文献

A rhizomatous growth form of Codium fragile is described for the first time. Plants were collected in the Gulf of St. Lawrence in estuaries dominated by Zostera marina. Rhizomatous plants developed from propagules of whole plants that settled horizontally. Horizontal axes of C. fragile were up to 1 m long in plants collected in situ. Plants developed several to dozens of erect axes at right angle to the base. Horizontal growth of up to 0.2 m was found in field experiments where fragments were tied to plastic mesh and left in situ for 4 months. The unconsolidated filaments at the base of C. fragile often wrapped around the rhizomes of Z. marina and up to five separate attachment sites to eelgrass were found in single plants of C. fragile. In four estuaries, 57–100% of Codium plants with identifiable substratum were attached to shoots and rhizomes of Z. marina. The rhizomatous growth form was found in plants identified as C. fragile ssp. tomentosoides (Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island) and C. fragile ssp. atlanticum (Prince Edward Island), suggesting that this is a phenotypic response to growth in soft bottom environments.Communicated by K Lüning  相似文献

Recent evidence indicates that the most common photobiont of lichens,Trebouxia, has evolved from the soil algaPleurastrum terrestre. Two isolates of Metarhizium spp. were studied for propagule production, because of their pathogenic activity towards locusts and grasshoppers (Mf189 = M. flavoviride (or M. anisopliae var. acridum) strain IMI 330189, and Mf324 = M. flavoviride strain ARSEF324). Both isolates were grown in seven different liquid media, which have been developed for mass production of various Hyphomycetes, considered as candidates for microbial control of noxious insects. Shake-flask experiments were carried out at 28 °C in the dark. Production was quantified for 72 h and the effects of the tested media were evaluated on propagule concentration, morphology and pathogenicity. Based on preliminary experiments, all tested media were supplemented with 0.4% Tween 80 to avoid the formation of pellets and to produce unicellular propagules. Submerged propagule yields were higher withMf189 than with Mf324 in all seven media. While high concentrations of propagules (1.4 to 2.4 × 108 propagules ml-1 for MF189 and1.4 to 8.3 × 107 propagules ml-1 for Mf324) were produced in four media (Adamek, Catroux, Jackson, and Jenkins–Prior media), production of propagules was lower in the three other media (Goral, Kondryatiev, and Paris media). Both isolates produced oblong blastospore-like propagules, except in Kondryatiev medium in which they provided ovoid propagules. In this case, Mf189 submerged propagules looked like aerial conidia, but scanning observations did not demonstrate a typical conidiogenesis via phialides. In Kondryatiev medium, Mf324 submerged propagules were significantly smaller than aerial conidia. Infection potential of submerged propagules was assayed on Schistocerca gregaria. Second-instar larvae fed for 48 h on fresh wheat previously contaminated by a spraying suspension of each inoculum titrated at 107 propagules ml-1. All seven media produced submerged propagules that were highly infectious for S. gregaria larvae. Shake flask culture assays permitted us to select three low-costmedia, Adamek, Jenkins–Prior, and Catroux for improving scale-up of liquid fermentation focused on mass-production of Metarhizium propagules for mycoinsecticides devoted to locust control. Antagonism betweenFusarium udum Butler causing wilt of pigeon-pea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.) and the saprophytic microflora of the root region of the host was studied with reference to colony interaction, hyphal interference, volatile and non-volatile metabolites and staling growth products. Studies were extended to screen potential antagonists against the wilt pathogen in soil. Aspergillus flavus, A. niger, A. terreus, Penicillium citrinum andMicromonospora globosa (an actinomycete) were antagonistic againstF. udum, whereas the pathogen parasitized and killedAspergillus luchuensis, Cunninghamella echinulata, Curvularia lunata, Mortierella subtilissima andSyncephalastrum racemosum. The pattern of growth of microorganisms on nutrient agar staled by rhizosphere soil inocula of healthy or wilted pigeon-pea plants was found to be different.F. udum colonized and grew on nutrient agar staled by the rhizosphere inoculum of the wilted plants upto 120h of incubation. However, it could not colonise and grow on the nutrient agar staled by rhizosphere microflora of healthy plants after 48h of incubation because of the presence of antagonists likeA. niger, A. flavus, A. terreus and a few species ofPenicillium in the soil inoculum. When pure cultures in soil ofF. udum was mixed with those of antagonists in different ratios,A. niger, A. flavus andM. globosa significantly suppressed the population ofF. udum, whereasA. terreus markedly reduced the population. Summary A population ofXanthomonas campestris pv.vesicatoria developed as endophytes in the leaves and rhizosphere of apparently symptomless plants grown under mist but not under dry conditions. The pathogen survired for long periods on, and could be isolated from, the surface of infested dried seeds, inoculated sandy loam soil, dried leaves, and the rhizosphere of pepper and of other non-host plants. In addition, small numbers of the pathogen survived for 18 months in a field previously cropped with pepper diseased with bacterial scab. Healthy nursery or mature plants developed symptoms while growing in soil containing infested leaves, either buried or placed on the soil surface.  相似文献

Summary Autoclaved or natural field soil amended with 0.1 to 5.0 per cent (W/W) of margosa cake, rice husk and sawdust with or without supplemental nitrogen were tested for lytic activity and bacterial numbers. Generally, non-amended autoclaved soil caused little or no lysis of mycelium ofF. oxysporum f. sp.udum; non-amended natural soil caused more lysis. Amendment of soil with margosa cake, rice husk or saw-dust with or without supplemental nitrogen greatly enhanced its lytic effect on the fungus. The degree of lysis depended on the dosage of amendment used and the stage of its decomposition in the soil. The extent of lysis increased as the bacterial population increased. Amongst bacteria,Bacillus subtilis was very common in most lytic zones.  相似文献

Summary The morphopalynological cards ofThuja orientalis L. and ofCryptomeria japonica (L. fil.) D. Don were illustrated as part of a more comprehensive study on ornamental Pinophyta. Pollens from the original area of the two species were also compared with grains coming from plants cultivated in Italy. In the case ofCryptomeria japonica (L. fil.) D. Don DV, D01, D02, exine, min. and max. diameters, calculated on a japanese sample, differed significatively from the italian sample. In the case ofThuja orientalis L. no significant differences were observed. Pollen from the two italian sites did not show significative differences in size and shape. Pollens acetolysed with the traditional method (Erdtman, 1960) were compared with pollens treated with the Tatzreiter method (1985). Anaphes diana (Girault) (=Patasson lameerei Debauche), a mymarid egg parasite ofSitona spp., was introduced from Europe beginning in 1976 and is now tentatively established in the United States. Techniques are described for the separation of eggs ofSitona spp. from soil, using a series of fine-mesh sieves, water, and a saturated salt solution. Data from 9 years of sampling in an alfalfa field at Newark, Del. (>19,300 host eggs extracted), showed that the mean peak density of viable overwintering eggs ofSitona hispidulus (F.) was 14.6 per 100 cm3 of 1 cm deep surface soil. At the study site,Sitona egg densities consistently increased during the fall as a result of oviposition, peaked during January and February and decreased during the spring as a result of egg hatch. Although the incidence of parasitism byA. diana remained surprisingly low (0.29%), the fact that the species was recovered during 3 years and up to 7 years after the last release, indicates that it has colonized at the Delaware release site.   相似文献

Experiments were conducted to study the efficacy of the insect parasitic nematodeHeterorhabditis sp. (HW79) as a biological control agent ofOtiorrhynchus salicicola. This weevil species is reported as a pest of ornamental plants in Switzerland and Italy. Dipping plastic boxes containing heavily infested cuttings of laurel (Prunus laurocerasus) in a nematode suspension resulted in approximately 100% parasitisation of full-grown larvae, pupae and non-emerged young adults. The average dose resulting from dipping varied between 56,000 and 62,000 nematodes per liter soil. This experiment was run under natural outdoor conditions. In a further outdoor experiment, pottedLigustrum plants were inoculated with eggs ofO. salicicola and later 20,000 infective juvenile nematodes per liter soil were added to the soil surface. The resulting weevil mortality in the treated pots was 78%. In seven greenhouse tests using the same nematode dose in pots with horticultural soil to which weevil larvae had been added, weevil mortality varied between 76% and 100%, the arithmetic average being 90%. These results indicate that Heterorhabditid nematodes may provide an effective means of controllingO. salicicola. In an other experiment usingO. sulcatus larvae, the influence of application time on nematode efficacy was investigated. When nematodes were added a few days before weevil larvae had hatched from the eggs, no parasitic effect was obtained. Nematode applications done shortly after larval hatching however, resulted in complete weevil control. These results are of significance in timing nematode applications in practice.   相似文献

Summary The presence in soil ofFrankia, capable of forming nitrogen-fixing root nodules onAlnus incana (L.) Moench, was investigated. Intact soil cores from forested as well as disturbed sites were sampled and both alder-rich and alder-free sites were included in the study. Surface-sterilized alder seeds were sown in the soil cores which were kept in sterile culture tubes in a growth chamber. Root nodules with nitrogenase activity developed in soil cores from all sites studied. Thus, infective and effectiveFrankia was present in all of the soils sampled, even from sites free from actinorhizal plants and irrespective of pH and nitrogen content of the soils.  相似文献

Seedling establishment ofCastanopsis cuspidata var.sieboldii Nakai andPersea thunbergii Kosterm. (Machilus thunbergii Sieb. et Zucc.) in early succession was studied on the lava and the scoria of the 1962 eruption on Miyake-jima Island of the Izu Islands. While tall individuals (> 1 m) ofP. thunbergii were found on both the lava and the scoria, those ofC. cuspidata (> 1 m) were found only on the lava. The height growth rate ofC. cuspidata was very low on the scoria, and there was no individual ofC. cuspidata taller than 0.4 m on the scoria. The proportion of yellow leaved individuals was much higher (37.1%) inC. cuspidata than inP. thunbergii (4.0%) on the scoria, while it was similar between the two species on the lava.Persea thunbergii seemed to be able to establish on both the lava and the scoria, butC. cuspidata established only on the lava. The differences in growth rate and vigor between the two species on the lava and the scoria in early succession may influence later stages of succession.  相似文献
