Natriuretic peptides (NPs) have been implicated in cardiovascular regulation in rainbow trout (Oncorhyncus mykiss), and it has been observed that the vasorelaxant activity of distinct trout and human NPs is similar in isolated trout arteries. This study characterizes the response of a variety of vessels from rainbow trout and other salmonids to different NPs. The effects of heterologous (rat atrial and human atrial) and homologous (rainbow trout atrial and rainbow trout ventricular) NPs were examined in precontracted efferent branchial arteries from rainbow trout (O. mykiss, Kamloops strain), lake whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis), and in rainbow trout celiacomesenteric arteries and anterior cardinal veins. The response to mammalian NPs was also examined in efferent branchial arteries from the steelhead (O. mykiss, Skamania strain), coho salmon (Oncorhyncus kisutch), brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis), and brown trout (Salmo trutta). In general, there were relatively few differences that were species, peptide, or vessel specific. There was no difference in the sensitivity (concentration producing a half-maximal response EC(50)) or efficacy (percent relaxation, i.e., E(max)) of trout or whitefish efferent branchial arteries to any NP, except human NP, which was significantly less effective (greater EC(50) and lower E(max)) in whitefish arteries. There were no differences in E(max) of mammalian NPs in efferent branchial arteries from any species, and only coho and brook trout had significantly different EC(50)'s (coho, 1.0+/-0.2 nM; brook trout, 4. 2+/-0.6 nM; and other species, from 1.9 to 3.5 nM). Rainbow and coho anterior cardinal veins were less sensitive than arteries to mammalian NPs (EC(50)'s; 8.8+/-2.0, 2.0+/-0.1 vs. 3.0+/-0.9, 1.0+/-0. 2, respectively), whereas brown trout veins were more sensitive (1. 0+/-0.2, 3.5+/-1.3, respectively). Sodium nitroprusside (SNP), which activates soluble guanylate cyclase, was vasodilatory, albeit significantly less potent than all NPs, in efferent branchial arteries of all species. SNP was significantly more potent in trout than whitefish efferent branchial arteries, whereas it was equally efficacious in these vessels. These results demonstrate that multiple vessels from various salmonids are similarly responsive to the vasorelaxant effects of a variety of NPs and that the salmonid NP receptor has relatively little ability to discriminate between homologous and heterologous peptides. We conclude that the vascular NP receptor complex is highly conserved among salmonids. Further, salmonids utilize cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) elevations for reductions of vascular tonus by both particulate and soluble guanylate cyclase pathways.  相似文献

Systemic veins have a profound influence on cardiac output in mammals. Venoregulatory mechanisms have not been adequately studied in fish and their existence has been questioned. In the present study, two characteristics of vascular mechanics, compliance and agonist-induced tension development, were investigated in rainbow trout vessels in vitro. Rapid compliance in the anterior cardinal vein and efferent branchial artery was calculated from step-wise changes in the volume-pressure curve of isolated vessel segments. Agonist-induced tension development was examined in four veins; anterior and posterior cardinals, intestinal and duct of Cuvier. Venous compliance was not altered in response to epinephrine, norepinephrine or angiotensin II, while efferent branchial artery compliance was decreased by 10-6 mol·l-1 epinephrine and norepinephrine but not angiotensin II. The ratios of venous to arterial compliance in vessels from two rainbow trout strains were similar (21:1 and 32:1) and consistent with the ratio reported for mammalian viens (24:1). Trout veins contracted in response to agonists in both an, agonist- and vesselspecific manner. The greatest tension per vessel wet weight was produced in anterior cardinal vein. The response pattern of anterior cardinal vein and duct of Cuvier were similar; acetylcholine, arginine vasotocin, epinephrine and norepinephrine, and the thromboxane A2 agonist, U-44,069, produced approximately identical contractions, whereas angiotensin II was virtually ineffective. Conversely, angiotensin II was more potent than epinephrine in posterior cardinal vein. In cumulative dose-response experiments, epinephrine was equipotent in anterior cardinal vein and duct of Cuvier, whereas the latter was less sensitive to acetylcholine. Both atrial natriuretic peptide and sodium nitroprusside relaxed precontracted veins. This is the first study to determine compliance in fish vessels and the contractile nature of different rainbow trout veins. These findings suggest that venous tone and therefore cardiac output in fish may be regulated by neural or humoral mechanisms.Abbreviations ACH acetylcholine - ACV anterior cardinal vein - ANG II salmon asn1-val5 angiotensin II - ANP rat atrial natriuretic peptide - AVT arginine vasotocin - DNR Department of Natural Resources - DOC duct of Cuvier - EBA efferent branchial artery - EC5 threshold dose producing 5% maximal contraction - EC50 dose producing 50% maximal contraction - EPI epinephrine - HI K+ 80 mmol·l-1 - KCl IV, intestinal vein - NEPI norepinephrine - PBS phosphate buffered saline - PCV posterior cardinal vein - SNP sodium nitroprusside - U-44,069 thromboxane A2 agonist  相似文献

Hydrogen sulfide (H(2)S) is an endogenous vasodilator in mammals, but its presence and function in other vertebrates is unknown. We generated H(2)S from NaHS and examined the effects on isolated efferent branchial arteries from steelhead (stEBA) or rainbow (rtEBA) trout. H(2)S concentration was measured colorimetrically (CM) and with ion-selective electrodes (ISE) in rainbow trout plasma. NaHS produced a triphasic response consisting of a relaxation (phase 1), constriction (phase 2), and relaxation (phase 3) in both unstimulated vessels and in stEBA precontracted with carbachol (Carb). Phase 1 and phase 3 in stEBA were decreased and phase 2 increased in unstimulated vessels by K(+)(ATP) channel inhibition (glibenclamide), or a cocktail of inhibitors of cyclooxygenase, lipoxygenase, and cytochrome P-450 (indomethacin, esculetin, and clotrimazole). Inhibition of soluble guanylate cyclase with ODQ o NS-2028 inhibited phase 3 in stEBA, although NaHS decreased cGMP production by tEBA. stEBA phase 2 contractions were partially inhibited by the myosin light chain kinase inhibitor, ML-9, but unaffected by L-type calcium channel inhibition (methoxyverapamil), whereas contraction in tEBA was partially inhibited by nifedipine or removal of extracellular calcium. Phase 3 relaxations were more pronounced in stEBA precontracted with Carb and no epinephrine (NE) than those cont acted by KCl or K(2)SO(4). stEBA phase 2 and phase 3 responses were dose dependent (EC(50) = 1.1 +/- 1.2 x 10(-3) M and 6.7 +/- 0.9 x 10(-5) M, respectively; n = 7). NaHS was also vasoactive in steelhead bulbus arteriosus, celiac mesenteric arteries, and anterior cardinal veins. Rainbow trout plasma sulfide concentration was 4.0 +/- 0.3 x 10(-5) M, n = 4 (CM) and 3.8 +/- 0.4 x 10(-5) M, n = 9 (ISE); similar to phase 3 EC(50). Because NaHS has substantial vasoactive effects at physiological plasma concentrations, we propose that its soluble derivative, H(2)S, is a tonically active endogenous vasoregulator in trout.  相似文献

Summary The relationship between alkaline phosphatase and environmental salinity was examined in the rainbow trout and the migratory rainbow (steelhead),Salmo gairdneri. The enzyme activity in tissues involved in osmoregulation was strongly correlated with the adaptation salinity and thus to the degree of salt and fluid transport in those tissues. After transfer from freshwater to seawater, the specific activity of the enzyme increased over 260% in the intestine, decreased by 50% in kidney, and was unchanged in the liver, an organ not directly involved in osmoregulation. The sea-run steelhead trout response was similar to the nonmigratory rainbow; although, the pre-migratory transformation (smoltification) had no effect on enzyme activity. Amino acid inhibitors of alkaline phosphatase significantly reduced fluid absorption in the isolated intestine of rainbow trout, reaffirming the relationship between the enzyme and fluid movement. Electrophoretic identification of trout alkaline phosphatase isozymes, clearly distinguishes the enzyme from different tissue origins. However, from the analysis of intestinal electrophoretic patterns, osmoregulatory adjustments are not associated with the induction of new alkaline phosphatase isozymes, or in the large scale preferential stimulation of one of the two existing intestinal isozymes over the other.

A new bacterial pathogen of chinook salmon (oncorhynchus tshawytscha) was isolated from fish in Oregon's Rogue River. The bacteria are biochemically and serologically related to strains of Edwardsiella tarda. Initially isolated from chinook salmon, the bacteria were also pathogenic for steelhead and rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri), and channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus). The 50% lethal doses for chinook salmon, steelhead trout, and channel catfish injected intraperitoneally and maintained in 18 degrees C water were 4.1 x 10(6), 5.6 x 10(6), and 4.0 x 10(5) respectively. When chinook salmon and rainbow trout were injected intraperitoneally and held in 12 degrees C water, the mean lethal doses were 6.4 x 10(7) and 1.7 x 10(6), respectively. The invasiveness of the organism was low in steelhead trout exposed to the bacteria by the waterborne route. The optimum growth temperature of the bacteria in brain heart infusion broth was approximately 35 degrees C. The guanine plus cytosine content of DNA obtained from E. tarda isolated from salmon was 59 mol%.  相似文献

Hybridization of cutthroat trout and steelhead/rainbow trout is ubiquitous where they are sympatric, either naturally or owing to introductions. The ability to detect hybridization and introgression between the two species would be greatly improved by the development of more diagnostic markers validated across the two species' many phylogenetic lineages. Here, we describe 81 novel genetic markers and associated assays for discriminating the genomes of these sister species. These diagnostic nucleotide polymorphisms were discovered by sequencing of rainbow trout expressed sequence tags (ESTs) in a diverse panel of both cutthroat trout and steelhead/rainbow trout. The resulting markers were validated in a large number of lineages of both species, including all extant subspecies of cutthroat trout and most of the lineages of rainbow trout that are found in natural sympatry with cutthroat trout or used in stocking practices. Most of these markers (79%) distinguish genomic regions for all lineages of the two species, but a small number do not reliably diagnose coastal, westslope and/or other subspecies of cutthroat trout. Surveys of natural populations and hatchery strains of trout and steelhead found rare occurrences of the alternative allele, which may be due to either previous introgression or shared polymorphism. The availability of a large number of genetic markers for distinguishing genomic regions originating in these sister species will allow the detection of both recent and more distant hybridization events, facilitate the study of the evolutionary dynamics of hybridization and provide a powerful set of tools for the conservation and management of both species.  相似文献

Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have several advantages over other genetic markers, including lower mutation and genotyping error rates, ease of inter-laboratory standardization, and the prospect of high-throughput, low-cost genotyping. Nevertheless, their development and use has only recently moved beyond model organisms to groups such as salmonid fishes. Oncorhynchus mykiss is a salmonid native to the North Pacific rim that has now been introduced throughout the world for fisheries and aquaculture. The anadromous form of the species is known as steelhead. Native steelhead populations on the west coast of the United States have declined and many now have protected status. The nonanadromous, or resident, form of the species is termed rainbow, redband or golden trout. Additional life history and morphological variation, and interactions between the forms, make the species challenging to study, monitor and evaluate. Here, we describe the discovery, characterization and assay development for 139 SNP loci in steelhead/rainbow trout. We used EST sequences from existing genomic databases to design primers for 480 genes. Sanger-sequencing products from these genes provided 130 KB of consensus sequence in which variation was surveyed for 22 individuals from steelhead, rainbow and redband trout groups. The resulting TaqMan assays were surveyed in five steelhead populations and three rainbow trout stocks, where they had a mean minor allele frequency of 0.15-0.26 and observed heterozygosity of 0.18-0.35. Mean F(ST) was 0.204. The development of SNPs for O. mykiss will help to provide highly informative genetic tools for individual and stock identification, pedigree reconstruction, phylogeography and ecological investigation.  相似文献

Compromisation of food intake when confronted with diets deficient in essential amino acids is a common response of fish and other animals, but the underlying physiological factors are poorly understood. We hypothesize that oxygen consumption of fish is a possible physiological factor constraining food intake. To verify, we assessed the food intake and oxygen consumption of rainbow trout fed to satiation with diets which differed in essential amino acid (methionine and lysine) compositions: a balanced vs. an imbalanced amino acid diet. Both diets were tested at two water oxygen levels: hypoxia vs. normoxia. Trout consumed 29% less food under hypoxia compared to normoxia (p<0.001). Under both hypoxia and normoxia trout significantly reduced food intake by 11% and 16% respectively when fed the imbalanced compared to the balanced amino acid diet. Oxygen consumption of the trout per unit body mass remained identical for both diet groups not only under hypoxia but also under normoxia (p>0.05). This difference in food intake between diets under normoxia together with the identical oxygen consumption supports the hypothesis that food intake in fish can be constrained by a set-point value of oxygen consumption, as seen here on a six-week time scale.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted on rainbow trout to determine the impact of dietary salt on arterial blood pressure. After 4-6 wk, fish fed a salt-enriched diet exhibited a 37% elevation of dorsal aortic pressure (from 23.8 +/- 1.2 to 32.6 +/- 1.4 mmHg) and an 18% increase in ventral aortic pressure (from 33.0 +/- 1.5 to 38.9 +/- 1.3 mmHg). The hypertension presumably reflected the increase in cardiac output (from 31.0 +/- 0.8 to 36.4 +/- 2.2 ml.min(-1).kg(-1)) because systemic and branchial resistances were statistically unaltered by salt feeding. The chronic hypertension was associated with a decrease in the pressor responses of the systemic vasculature to catecholamines and hypercapnia in the salt-fed fish. The reduction in alpha-adrenergic responsiveness of the systemic vasculature is consistent with desensitization or loss of functional alpha-adrenoceptors (alpha-ARs). In support of this idea, the salt-fed fish exhibited significantly decreased levels of alpha(1D)-AR mRNA in the dorsal aorta and the afferent (ABA) and efferent branchial arteries (EBA). In contrast, however, the results obtained from norepinephrine dose-response curves for EBA and ABA vascular rings in vitro did not provide evidence for loss of function of branchial artery alpha(1)-ARs in the salt-fed fish. Indeed, the EC(50) for the EBA norepinephrine dose-response curve was significantly reduced (from 3.75 x 10(-7) to 2.12 x 10(-7) M) in the salt-fed fish, indicating an increase in the binding affinity of the alpha(1)-ARs.  相似文献

Adaptation to hypoxia is a complex process, and individual proteins will be up- or down-regulated in order to address the main challenges at any given time. To investigate the dynamics of the adaptation, rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) was exposed to 30% of normal oxygen tension for 1, 2, 5 and 24 h respectively, after which muscle samples were taken. The successful investigation of numerous proteins in a single study was achieved by selectively separating the sarcoplasmic proteins using 2-DE. In total 46 protein spots were identified as changing in abundance in response to hypoxia using one-way ANOVA and multivariate data analysis. Proteins of interest were subsequently identified by MS/MS following tryptic digestion. The observed regulation following hypoxia in skeletal muscle was determined to be time specific, as only a limited number of proteins were regulated in response to more than one time point. The cellular response to hypoxia included regulation of proteins involved in maintaining iron homeostasis, energy levels and muscle structure. In conclusion, this proteome-based study presents a comprehensive investigation of the expression profiles of numerous proteins at four different time points. This increases our understanding of timed changes in protein expression in rainbow trout muscle following hypoxia.  相似文献

Central venous blood pressure (P(ven)) increases in response to hypoxia in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), but details on the control mechanisms of the venous vasculature during hypoxia have not been studied in fish. Basic cardiovascular variables including P(ven), dorsal aortic blood pressure, cardiac output, and heart rate were monitored in vivo during normoxia and moderate hypoxia (P(W)O(2) = approximately 9 kPa), where P(W)O(2) is water oxygen partial pressure. Venous capacitance curves for normoxia and hypoxia were constructed at 80-100, 90-110, and 100-120% of total blood volume by transiently (8 s) occluding the ventral aorta and measure P(ven) during circulatory arrest to estimate the mean circulatory filling pressure (MCFP). This allowed for estimates of hypoxia-induced changes in unstressed blood volume (USBV) and venous compliance. MCFP increased due to a decreased USBV at all blood volumes during hypoxia. These venous responses were blocked by alpha-adrenoceptor blockade with prazosin (1 mg/kg body mass). MCFP still increased during hypoxia after pretreatment with the adrenergic nerve-blocking agent bretylium (10 mg/kg body mass), but the decrease in USBV only persisted at 80-100% blood volume, whereas vascular capacitance decreased significantly at 90-110% blood volume. In all treatments, hypoxia typically reduced heart rate while cardiac output was maintained through a compensatory increase in stroke volume. Despite the markedly reduced response in venous capacitance after adrenergic blockade, P(ven) always increased in response to hypoxia. This study reveals that venous capacitance in rainbow trout is actively modulated in response to hypoxia by an alpha-adrenergic mechanism with both humoral and neural components.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to test the hypothesis that branchial gas transfer is enhanced in rainbow trout during hypoxia or hypercarbia by bradycardia and systemic vasoconstriction. Gas transfer was indirectly assessed by continuous monitoring of arterial blood gases, PaO2 and PaCO2. Cardiac frequency was maximally decreased by 34.9+/-4.3 and 8.6+/-3.2 bpm in hypoxic and hypercarbic fish, respectively. Pre-treating fish with atropine (1micromol kg(-1)) attenuated or abolished the bradycardia during hypoxia and hypercarbia, respectively. However, there were no significant differences in the arterial blood gases between the control and atropinized fish. Dorsal aortic blood pressure was increased maximally by 11.3+/-2.8 and 17.7+/-2.0mm Hg in the hypoxic and hypercarbic fish. Pre-treatment of fish with prazosin (2.4micromol kg(-1)) prevented these increases in blood pressure. Blood gases were unaltered by prazosin treatment in the hypercarbic fish. However, in the hypoxic fish, gas transfer appeared to be impaired by prazosin on the basis of lowered PaO2 (by approximately 35 mm Hg compared to control fish) and increased PaCO2 (by approximately 0.3mm Hg). Because the normal hyperventilatory response to hypoxia was prevented by prazosin, it is possible that the impairment of gas transfer was related to inadequate ventilation rather than to any differences in the pressor response. The present results provide no evidence that gas transfer in rainbow trout is enhanced by bradycardia nor do they reveal any obvious benefit associated with the increases in blood pressure that accompany hypoxia and hypercarbia.  相似文献

Haemodynamic effects of adenosine on gills of the trout (Salmo gairdneri)   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Summary The haemodynamic effects of adenosine on gills of the trout (Salmo gairdneri) were studied with in vitro and in vivo preparations. On the isolated head preparation, adenosine induced a decrease of the ventral aortic inflow and of the dorsal aortic outflow. Simultaneously the venous outflow increased. These effects were antagonized by theophylline. Adenosine induced a vasoconstriction in gill arches without filaments perfused by the afferent or the efferent branchial arteries. The efferent vessels were more sensitive to adenosine than afferent vessels. The whole systemic circulation of the isolated trunk did not show any response to adenosine. When adenosine was infused into the ventral aorta of living trout, the gill resistance to blood flow was greatly increased. These results suggest that adenosine is able to control the arterious and venous blood pathways in the trout gills by modulating their vascular resistance.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to identify behavioural adjustments leading to avoidance of hypoxia. Using the oxygen-sensitive species rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss as a model, individual fish were recorded while moving freely between two sides of a test arena: one with normoxia and one with stepwise progressive hypoxia [80-30% dissolved oxygen (DO) air saturation]. The results demonstrated a gradual decrease in the total time spent in hypoxia starting at 80% DO air saturation. At this DO level, the avoidance of hypoxia could not be attributed to changes in spontaneous swimming speed, neither in normoxia nor in hypoxia. Reducing the DO level to 60% air saturation resulted in decreased spontaneous swimming speed in normoxia, yet the number of trips to the hypoxic side of the test arena remained unchanged. Moreover, data revealed increased average residence time per trip in normoxia at DO levels ≤60% air saturation and decreased average residence time per trip in hypoxia at DO levels ≤50% air saturation. Finally, the spontaneous swimming speed in hypoxia increased at DO levels ≤40% air saturation and the number of trips to hypoxia decreased at the 30% DO air saturation level. Thus, avoidance of the deepest hypoxia was connected with a reduced number of trips to hypoxia as well as decreased and increased spontaneous swimming speed in normoxia and hypoxia, respectively. Collectively, the data support the conclusions that the mechanistic basis for avoidance of hypoxia may (1) not involve changes in swimming speed during mild hypoxia and (2) depend on the severity of hypoxia.  相似文献

Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) are often used to estimate important biotic ligand model (BLM) parameters, such as metal-binding affinity (log K) and capacity (Bmax). However, rainbow trout do not typically occupy metal-contaminated environments, whereas yellow perch (Perca flavescens) are ubiquitous throughout most of North America. This study demonstrates that dynamic processes that regulate Cu uptake at the gill differ between rainbow trout and yellow perch. Rainbow trout were more sensitive to acute aqueous Cu than yellow perch, and toxicity was exacerbated in soft water relative to similar exposures in hard water. Whole body Na loss rate could account for acute Cu toxicity in both species, as opposed to new Cu uptake rate that was not as predictive. Time course experiments using radiolabelled Cu (64Cu) revealed that branchial Cu uptake was rather variable within the first 12 h of exposure, and appeared to be a function of Cu concentration, water hardness, and fish species. After 12 h, new branchial Cu concentrations stabilized in both species, suggesting that metal exposures used to estimate BLM parameters should be increased in duration from 3 h to 12+ h. In rainbow trout, 71% of the new Cu bound to the gill was exchangeable (i.e., able to either enter the fish or be released back to the water), as opposed to only 48% in yellow perch. This suggests that at equal exposure concentrations, proportionally more branchial Cu can be taken up by rainbow trout than yellow perch, which can then go on to confer toxicity. These qualitative differences in branchial Cu handling between the two species emphasize the need to develop BLM parameters for each species of interest, rather than the current practice of extrapolating BLM results derived from rainbow trout (or other laboratory-reared species) to other species. Data reported here indicate that a one-size-fits-all approach to predictive modeling, mostly based on rainbow trout studies, may not suffice for making predictions about metal toxicity to yellow perch—that is, a species that inhabits metal-contaminated lakes around northern Canadian industrial operations.  相似文献

Growth was measured in dechorionated and chorionated embryos of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss exposed to three oxygen treatments: hypoxia, normoxia and hyperoxia (nominally 5, 10 and 15 mg l−1). Dechorionated embryos grew faster than chorionated ones in all three oxygen treatments. Similar patterns, however, were found in both dechorionated and chorionated groups; embryos exposed to hypoxia grew less than normoxic and hyperoxic exposed embryos. Moreover, there was no significant interaction between the effect of oxygen levels and presence or absence of the chorion on growth after hatching. These results suggest that the effect of oxygen on growth was not affected by the presence of the chorion.  相似文献

Life history polymorphisms provide ecological and genetic diversity important to the long term persistence of species responding to stochastic environments. Oncorhynchus mykiss have complex and overlapping life history strategies that are also sympatric with hatchery populations. Passive integrated transponder (PIT) tags and parentage analysis were used to identify the life history, origin (hatchery or wild) and reproductive success of migratory rainbow/steelhead for two brood years after barriers were removed from a small stream. The fluvial rainbow trout provided a source of wild genotypes to the colonizing population boosting the number of successful spawners. Significantly more parr offspring were produced by anadromous parents than expected in brood year 2005, whereas significantly more parr offspring were produced by fluvial parents than expected in brood year 2006. Although hatchery steelhead were prevalent in the Methow Basin, they produced only 2 parr and no returning adults in Beaver Creek. On average, individual wild steelhead produced more parr offspring than the fluvial or hatchery groups. Yet, the offspring that returned as adult steelhead were from parents that produced few parr offspring, indicating that high production of parr offspring may not be related to greater returns of adult offspring. These data in combination with other studies of sympatric life histories of O. mykiss indicate that fluvial rainbow trout are important to the conservation and recovery of steelhead and should be included in the management and recovery efforts.  相似文献

Rapid adaptation to novel environments may drive changes in genomic regions through natural selection. Such changes may be population-specific or, alternatively, may involve parallel evolution of the same genomic region in multiple populations, if that region contains genes or co-adapted gene complexes affecting the selected trait(s). Both quantitative and population genetic approaches have identified associations between specific genomic regions and the anadromous (steelhead) and resident (rainbow trout) life-history strategies of Oncorhynchus mykiss. Here, we use genotype data from 95 single nucleotide polymorphisms and show that the distribution of variation in a large region of one chromosome, Omy5, is strongly associated with life-history differentiation in multiple above-barrier populations of rainbow trout and their anadromous steelhead ancestors. The associated loci are in strong linkage disequilibrium, suggesting the presence of a chromosomal inversion or other rearrangement limiting recombination. These results provide the first evidence of a common genomic basis for life-history variation in O. mykiss in a geographically diverse set of populations and extend our knowledge of the heritable basis of rapid adaptation of complex traits in novel habitats.  相似文献
