Two new monoterpenes from the bled resin of Pistacia vera

Structure determination and synthesis of two novel bicyclic p-menthane monoterpenes isolated from Pistacia vera are reported.     

Steryl glycosides and acyl steryl glycosides from Musa paradisiaca

From peeled fruits of Musa paradisiaca (banana, vegetable variety), two new acyl steryl glycosides, sitoindoside-III and sitoindoside-IV, and two new steryl glycosides, sitosterol gentiobioside and sitosterol myo-inosityl-β-D-glucoside, have been isolated by gradient solvent extraction and extensive chromatography (CC, prep. TLC, GC and HPLC). The compounds have been characterized by comprehensive spectroscopic analyses (IR, ¹H NMR, GC, mass spectra, [α]_D) and crucial chemical transformation. Additionally, seasonal variations of the total sterols, free sterols, steryl esters, steryl glycosides and acyl steryl glycosides in the active samples of banana have been analysed. The results provide a basis for the observed fluctuations in the anti-ulcerogenic activity of the extracts, in different seasons, and the importance of appropriate formulation of the pure principles to optimize the activity.     

Mycochromone and mycoxanthone: Two new metabolites from Mycosphaerella rosigena

Two new metabolites, dimethyl 2-(2-ethenyl-5-hydroxy-4H-1-benzopyran-4-onyl-3)-malonate (mycochromone 1a) and methyl 2-methoxy-8-hydroxy-9-oxo-9H-xanthene-1-carboxylate (mycoxanthone 6a), have been isolated and identified from the mycelium of Mycosphaerella rosigena grown on potato-agar.     

Two new flavone glycosides from Cirsium lineare

An examination of four species of Cirsium disclosed the presence of two new flavonoids in C. lineare. The structure of one was 5,4′-dihydroxy-6,7,3′-trimethoxyflavone (cirsilineol) 4′-monoglucoside and the other 5,3′,4′-trihydroxy-6,7-dimethoxyflavone (cirsiliol) 4′-monoglucoside. Luteolin 7-glucoside was found in C. suffultum, and pectolinarin and linarin in C. kamtschaticum and C. pectinellum.     

Dulcosides A and B,new diterpene glycosides from Stevia rebaudiana

New diterpene glycosides, dulcosides A and B were isolated from Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni and their structures were established as 19-O-β-glu     

Occurrence of steryl glycosides and acylated steryl glycosides in some marine algae

There is some controversy concerning the presence of steryl glycosides and acylated steryl glycosides in eucaryotic algae. These two classes of sterol compounds were investigated in species belonging to the three major groups of eucaryotic algae: green algae (Ulva gigantea, Cladophora rupestris), brown algae (Fucus vesiculosus, Ascophyllum nodosum), and red algae (Rhodymenia palmata, Porphyridium sp.). All these algae contain both steryl glycosides and acylated steryl glycosides. The sterol components of these compounds vary according to the alga but they are always the same as the free sterols of the alga in question. The most common sugar moiety is glucose. In the acylated steryl glycosides, the fatty acid is mainly palmitic acid. The percentage of these compounds (as a percentage of the total sterol content) is often low.     

Two new steryl esters from the basidiomycete Tricholomopsis rutilans

Two new steryl esters with a polyhydroxylated ergostane-type nucleus, 3beta,5alpha-dihydroxy-(22E,24R)-ergosta-7,22-dien-6beta-yl oleate (1) and 3beta,5alpha-dihydroxy-(22E,24R)-ergosta-22-en-7-one-6beta-yl oleate (2), were isolated from the fruiting bodies of the basidiomycete Tricholomopsis rutilans along with three known sterols (3, 4, and 5). The structures of compounds 1 and 2 were established on the basis of spectroscopic means and chemical methods.     

A new coumarin from Perezia multiflora

A new highly oxidized coumarin was isolated from the roots of Perezia multiflora. Its structure was elucidated as 3,4,8-trimethoxy-6-hydroxy-5-formyl-2$\text{H}$-1-benzopyran-2-one.     

Flavonoids from Limnophila indica

Two flavonoids, (2S)-5,7,3',4'-tetramethoxyflavanone (1) and 5,7,2',5'-tetramethoxyflavone (2) together with three known flavonoids, 7-O-methylwogonin (3), skullcapflavone I (4) and 5-hydroxy-7,2'-dimethoxyflavone (5) were isolated from the whole plant of Limnophila indica. The structures of compounds 1-5 were elucidated on the basis of spectral and chemical studies.     

Two carboxy- and two hydroxymethyl-substituted aristololactams from Aristolochia argentina

Four new aristololactams have been isolated from Aristolochia argentina. The evidence indicates them to be 10-amino-3-hydroxymethyl-2,4-dimethoxyphenanthrene-1-carboxylic acid lactam, 10-amino-3-hydroxymethyl-2,4,6-trimethoxyphenanthrene-1-carboxylic acid lactam, 10-amino-2-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenanthrene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid lactam and 10-amino-2-hydroxy-4,6-dimethoxyphenanthrene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid lactam.     

Rivularinin,a new saponin from Anemone rivularis

A new saponin, rivularinin, has been isolated from the ethanolic extract of Anemone rivularis (Ranunculaceae). The saponin was shown to be [α-l-arabinofuranosyl(1→2)-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl (1→4)-β-d-glucopyranosyl(1→4)-β-d-glucuronopyranosyl(1→3)]-3β-hydroxy-olean-12-en-28-oic acid.     

Two new xanthone glycosides from Tripterospermum lanceolatum

Oleanolic acid, mangiferin, and two new xanthone glucosides, named lanceoside (1,8-dihydroxy-3,7- dimethoxyxanthone- 4-O-β-d-glucoside) and lancerin (C-4-β-d-glucosyl-1,3,7-trihydroxyxanthone), respectively, were isolated from the aerial parts of Tripterospermum lanceolatum.     

Two new flavonoid glycosides from Iris tectorum

Phytochemical investigation of the ethanol extract of rhizomes of Iris tectorum resulted in the isolation and characterization of two new flavonoid glycosides, tectorigenin-7-O-β-d-fucopyranoside (1), 3,5,4′-trihydroxy-7,3′-dimethoxyflavanone-5-O-α-l-rhamnopyranoside (2), together with two known ones (3, 4). The rhamnose substituent at C-5 displayed uncommon connection in naturally occurring flavonoid glycosides. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis. All of the isolates were evaluated for their in vitro inhibitory activity against aldose reductase.     

Two chromone glycosides from Cassia multijuga

Two new 2-methylchromone glycosides have been identified in the leaves of Cassia multiluga.     

Bacogenin A2: A new sapogenin from bacosides

Trichoclin,a new furocoumarin from trichocline incana

The structure for trichoclin, (E)-8-(3-methyl-4-hydroxy-2-butenyloxy)-psoralen, a new furocoumarin isolated from Trichocline incana, has been established. Phellopterin and isopimpinellin were also obtained. The new side chain of trichoclin was confirmed by synthesis.
