Two species of dematiaceous hyphomycetes parasitic on leaves of Maianthemum gigas or M. paniculatum (Liliidae) in tropical mountain rainforests in Western Panama are described as new. One species is morphologically intermediate between Periconiella, Pseudocercosporidium, and Stenella. It is tentatively accommodated in Periconiella because of strongly branched conidiophores and verruculose external hyphae. It differs from other Periconiella species by stromata embedded in the substomatal chamber of the leaves. The other species belongs to Pseudocercospora and is described as new since no similar species of Pseudocercospora is known on species of Maianthemum or related genera. Both species are illustrated in detail with drawings based on light microscopy and images based on scanning electron microscopy. Taxonomic novelties: Periconiella maianthemi R. Six new species of cercosporoid fungi were found on leaves of Banisteriopsis species from the Cerrado: Passalora chapadensis, P. delamonicae, and P. guimaranhensis on Banisteriopsis megaphylla, B. pubipetala, and B. megaphylla, respectively, and Pseudocercospora banisteriopsis-megaphyllae, P. matogrossoensis, and P. uwebrauniana on Banisteriopsis megaphylla, B. membranifolia, and B. stellaris, respectively.  相似文献

A new species of Pseudocercospora is described on lesions restricted to the leaf margins of living leaves of Ginkgo biloba in Taiwan. The lesions were also colonized by the hyphomycete Scolecobasidium humicola. Telia of the basidiomycete Bartheletia paradoxa are first recorded from Japan. These three species are presumed to be saprobionts in the primary stage of litter decomposition or as weak pathogens. A short survey of fungi recorded from ginkgo with focus on ginkgo leaves is provided.  相似文献

The ticks removed from the patients who applied to the hospitals in Istanbul and neighboring cities, Turkey, with the complaint of tick bite were examined in this study, on account of their species, biological stages, attachment sites on the body, and the age of the affected patients. A total of 16,969 ticks were identified. Encountered species were as follows: 33.6 % Ixodes spp. immature, 25.3 % Hyalomma spp. immature, 24.3 % I. ricinus, 9.5 % Rhipicephalus sanguineus gr., 3.2 % R. bursa, 2.2 % Hyalomma marginatum, 1.96 % Haemaphysalis adults, 1.66 % Hyalomma aegyptium, 0.52 % Dermacentor marginatus, 0.39 % Rhipicephalus spp. nymphs, 0.12 % Dermacentor spp. nymphs, 0.11 % Haemaphysalis spp. nymphs, 0.09 % Hyalomma scupense, and 0.03 % Hyalomma excavatum. The distribution of attachment sites of the species and instars showed significant differences. Furthermore, age data of the patients also revealed that certain tick species were more common within certain age groups.  相似文献

Five new Meliola species, collected in the Brazilian Cerrado on five fabaceous hosts, Albizia polyantha, Andira humilis, Eriosema congestrum, Sweetia fruticosa, and Vigna sp. were described, illustrated, and are here designated as Meliola albiziae-polyanthae, M. andirae-humilis, M. eriosemae, M. sweetiae, and M. bodoquensis, respectively.  相似文献

This study reflects on the monophyly of, and species diversity within, the genus Pseudocercospora in Far East Asia. Morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analyses of Pseudocercospora species were based on type specimens and ex-type cultures, which were collected from Japan and Taiwan. A phylogenetic tree was generated from multi-locus DNA sequence data of the internal transcribed spacer regions of the nrDNA cistron (ITS), partial actin (actA), and partial translation elongation factor 1-alpha (tef1), as well as the partial DNA-directed RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (rpb2). Based on these results, Pseudocercospora amelanchieris on Amelanchier and Ps. iwakiensis on Ilex were newly described from Japan, and a further 22 types (incl. two neo-, five lecto-, and 15 epitypes), were designated. The genus Pseudocercospora as presently circumscribed was found to be monophyletic, while the secondary barcodes, actA, tef1, and rpb2 were shown to be well suited to delimitate species within the genus.  相似文献

A new species of Pseudocercospora on leaves of Acer albopurpurascens, a maple endemic to Taiwan, is described. The fungus sporulated on leaf spots caused by Vladracula annuliformis (Rhytismatales). Pseudocercospora camelliicola and Coccomyces sinensis on leaves of Camellia cultivars are recorded for the first time for Taiwan and described and illustrated in detail. In contrast to the situation on maple, both fungal species on camellia caused conspicuous breakage of the epidermis during sporulation, which is discussed in connection with fungal succession during leaf litter decomposition.  相似文献

 Five species collected in the Nansei Islands are discussed. Of these, one species found on Gardenia jasminoides is described as a new species, Cercosporidium okinawaense Kobayashi et Nishijima. Asperisporium caricae on Carica papaya, Pseudocercospora melastomobia on Melastoma candidum, and P. neoliquidambaris Nakashima et Kobayashi, nom. nov. on Liquidambar formosana are newly added to the Japanese mycoflora. Cercospora violamaculans on Rhaphiolepis umbellata is transferred to the genus Pseudocercospora as Pseudocercospora violamaculans (Fukui) Kobayashi et Nakashima, comb. nov., with some additional notes. Polystomatid flatworms of amphibians are represented in the Neotropical realm by species of Mesopolystoma, Nanopolystoma, Parapseudopolystoma, Polystoma, Riojatrema and Wetapolystoma but only species of Polystoma are known from Brazil, namely Polystoma cuvieri, P. knoffi, P. lopezromani and P. travassosi. During a survey of monogeneans infecting amphibians in the north-eastern region of Pará State, the Cayenne Caecilian Typhlonectes compressicauda was found to be infected with Nanopolystoma tinsleyi and the Veined Tree Frog Trachycephalus typhonius was found to harbor Polystoma lopezromani. A yet unknown species of Polystoma was also encountered in the urinary bladder of the Steindachner's Dwarf Frog, Physalaemus ephippifer. This new species, which is the second species reported from Physalaemus spp., is described herein as Polystoma goeldii n. sp. and its life cycle is also illustrated. The new species can be distinguished from Polystoma spp. from other neotropical realm by a combination of characteristics, including hamuli morphology, outer/inner hamuli length ratio, haptor/total body length ratio, genital bulb/total body length ratio, genital spine number and COI molecular characters.  相似文献

There has long been a need for a laboratory host of human plasmodia. Although certain of the anthropoid apes, especially Pan troglodytes (the chimpanzee) are susceptible to one or more species of these malarias, there are numerous difficulties in utilizing such animals as experimental subjects. Of the Old World monkeys, only macaques have shown some susceptibility to Plasmodium falciparum.With the demonstration in 1966 that P. vivax would develop in Aotus trivirgatus (the night monkey), New World monkeys became established as models for investigation. Later it was determined that vivax lines could be maintained in Saimiri, Saguinus, and Ateles spp. Adaptation of P. falciparum directly from man has been achieved in Aotus, with subsequent passage in Saimiri and Cebus; other Panamanian monkeys show only transitory parasitemias. Thus far, P. malariae has been infective only to Aotus.Infectivity of the gametocytes to mosquitoes has been retained in monkeys, with transmission back to man or to other monkeys, thus providing all stages of the parasites for biologic, chemotherapeutic, pathologic or immunologic studies.  相似文献

For matching the new fungal nomenclature to abolish pleomorphic names for a fungus, a genus Pseudocercospora s. str. was suggested to host holomorphic Pseudocercosproa fungi. But the Pseudocercosproa fungi need extra phylogenetic loci to clarify their taxonomy and diversity for their existing and coming species. Internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) secondary structures have been promising in charactering species phylogeny in plants, animals and fungi. In present study, a conserved model of ITS2 secondary structures was confirmed on fungi in Pseudocercospora s. str. genus using RNAshape program. The model has a typical eukaryotic four-helix ITS2 secondary structure. But a single U base occurred in conserved motif of U-U mismatch in Helix 2, and a UG emerged in UGGU motif in Helix 3 to Pseudocercospora fungi. The phylogeny analyses based on the ITS2 sequence–secondary structures with compensatory base change characterizations are able to delimit more species for Pseudocercospora s. str. than phylogenic inferences of traditional multi-loci alignments do. The model was employed to explore the diversity of endophytic Pseudocercospora fungi in poplar trees. The analysis results also showed that endophytic Pseudocercospora fungi were diverse in species and evolved a specific lineage in poplar trees. This work suggested that ITS2 sequence–structures could become as additionally significant loci for species phylogenetic and taxonomic studies on Pseudocerospora fungi, and that Pseudocercospora endophytes could be important roles to Pseudocercospora fungi’s evolution and function in ecology.  相似文献

Three Pseudocercospora species were found associated with leaf spots on five different members of the family Piperaceae in a stretch of Atlantic rain forest in the municipality of Viçosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Pseudocercospora piperis is newly recorded on Piper crassinervium and Piper mollicomum. It was also found in association with Pothomorphe umbellata, which is already known to be a host. Pseudocercospora piperis-arborei sp. nov. and Pseudocercospora piperis-gigantifolii sp. nov. were recorded on Piper arboreum and Piper gigantifolium, respectively. Both ticks and fleas are medically important arthropods, which act as vectors for a number of zoonotic diseases. In Sri Lanka, 35 species of ticks and 20 species of fleas have been reported from mammals, birds and reptiles. However, records of these parasites from small mammals are scanty. Here, we report ticks and fleas infesting muroid rodents and shrews including endemic species collected from around the country. Of the 149 small mammals collected, 48 individuals were infested with ticks, fleas or both. Immature stages of three tick species, Ixodes ceylonensis, Haemaphysalis hystricis and Hyalomma brevipunctata and unidentified species of Rhipicephalus were recorded from ten small mammal species. Four species of fleas, Stivalius phoberus, Stivalius aporus, Lentistivalius ferinus and Nosopsyllus tamilanus were identified from five species of small mammals. We report new host species for I. ceylonensis (Crocidura miya, Suncus montanus and Solisorex pearsoni), S. aporus (S. montanus and Mus fernandoni), N. tamilanus (S. pearsoni) and Rhipicephalus spp. (Crocidura hikmiya, S. montanus, S. pearsoni, M. fernandoni). All new host species reported here are endangered or critically endangered endemics to Sri Lanka.  相似文献

Ciguatera fish poisoning is a common form of seafood poisoning caused by toxins (ciguatoxins) that accumulate in demersal (reef) food webs. The precursors of ciguatoxins are produced by dinoflagellates of the genus Gambierdiscus, and enter the food web via herbivory and detritivory. The Gambierdiscus genus was recently revised and new research on the physiology and ecology of the revised species is needed. While it has been demonstrated that Gambierdiscus spp. are predominately epiphytic, the variability in epiphytic behavior among the various Gambierdiscus species is not known. Five Gambierdiscus species isolated from the Greater Caribbean Region were the focus of this study (G. belizeanus, G. caribaeus, G. carolinianus, G. carpenteri, and G. yasumotoi). Cells of Gambierdiscus were grown in wells with algae fragments from eight different macroalgal host genera (Acanthophora, Caulerpa, Dasya, Derbesia, Dictyota, Laurencia, Polysiphonia, and Ulva) where the epiphytic behavior and growth of the different Gambierdiscus species were monitored over 29 days. The results of this experiment demonstrate that epiphytic behavior (growth and attachment) differs among the Gambierdiscus species toward the various macroalgal hosts. Results tended to be specific to Gambierdiscus – host pairings with few commonalities in the way a particular Gambierdiscus species interacted across hosts or how the various Gambierdiscus species responded to a particular host. The Gambierdiscus – host pairings that resulted in the highest growth and attachment combinations were examined in terms of known cellular toxicity and host palatability to determine which pairings could represent the most likely vectors for the transfer of ciguatoxins (or precursors) into the demersal food web. Two pairings, Gambierdiscus belizeanusPolysiphonia and G. belizeanusDictyota, best met these criteria, providing a hypothetical approach to better focus sampling and monitoring efforts on such potential vectors in the benthic environment.  相似文献

Strongyloides stercoralis is a parasitic nematode and a major pathogen responsible for human strongyloidiasis. The presence of this species in the dog population has led to an interest in studying the phylogenetic relationships among Strongyloides spp. in carnivore hosts. In the present study, Strongyloides spp. from various carnivore hosts (raccoon, Japanese badger, Siberian weasel, raccoon dog, masked palm civet, and domestic cat) were sought. Except for civets, Strongyloides spp. were identified in all host species. Based on 18S rDNA sequences, nine OTUs (operational taxonomy units) were identified. Molecular phylogenetic analyses using 18S28S rDNA and mitochondrial cox1 (cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1) sequences clustered them into two groups. The first group (named the stercoralis/procyonis group) was comprised of six OTUs and occurred in cats, raccoon dogs, raccoons (S. procyonis), Siberian weasels, and Japanese badgers and included S. stercoralis from humans and dogs. The second group (named the planiceps group) was made up of Strongyloides spp. from raccoon dogs (two OTUs) and one OTU from Siberian weasels. Subsequent analysis using almost the full-length nucleotide sequences of protein-coding genes in their mitochondrial genomes placed Strongyloides spp. of cats in a sister taxon position to S. stercoralis, whereas S. procyonis from raccoons was more distantly related to them. The presence of Strongyloides spp. from various carnivore hosts, which are close relatives of S. stercoralis, suggests this group of Strongyloides (the stercoralis/procyonis group) essentially evolved as parasites of carnivores, although more data on Strongyloides spp. from primate hosts are needed.  相似文献

假尾孢属(Pseudocercospora)是尾孢菌属(Cercospora)的近似属中最大的一个属,Deighton估计约有500种尾孢菌需要转到假尾孢属,目前全世界已描述假尾孢菌400多个种,且都是植物寄生菌,有些种能引致植物严重病害。Spegazzini于1910年建立了假尾孢属,但1976年以前,大多被归属于尾孢菌属内。1971年Ellis对此属的特征作了精简描述,1976年报导了3个新组合。1976年以后,假尾孢属虽先后有不少新种和新组合被其他作者发表,但系统研究此属的则系Deighton o Deighton 1976年对假尾孢属的研究史、与近似属的区别以及属的特征都作了详细描述,并报道了世界性假尾孢菌的21个新种,202个新组合和3个新名称,于1979年和1987年又报道了15个新种和39个新组合。假尾孢属与尾孢菌属,针尾孢属(Cercoseptoria)及假小尾孢属(Pseudocercosporella)非常相似,但不同的是尾孢菌属产孢细胞不具齿突,疤痕明显加厚,分生孢子梗不从表生菌丝上产生,分生孢子大多无色,针形;针尾孢属分生孢子窄(不超过3µm),针形,不呈倒棍棒形,无表生菌丝;假小尾孢属分生孢子梗和分生孢子均无色,子座与假尾孢属也不大相同. 本文报道中国产的假尾孢菌60个种,其中有一个新种(八角枫假尾孢),25个新组合和3个新记录.  相似文献
