Encapsulated fish hooks were found free in the stomachs of Plectropomus maculatus (Bloch). The tissue surrounded only the ferrous part of the hooks which in each case was badly corroded, the brass swivel and plastic sleeve were undamaged. Histological examination showed that the hooks were first surrounded by dense collagen and then by vascularized smooth muscle.  相似文献

Regional nutrient blood flow to musculocutaneous and fasciocutaneous flaps was studied in dogs using 15-microns radiolabeled microspheres, and correlations to bacterial inoculation into closed wound spaces were sought. During the 6-day study period, no differences were found between blood flow to noinoculated versus inoculated flaps. Comparisons of blood flow to the deep surfaces of the flaps showed that blood flow to muscle in musculocutaneous flaps increased rapidly during the first 24 hours and then plateaued, while that to subcutaneous tissue plus fascia in fasciocutaneous flaps demonstrated a gradual and steady increase. The most rapid decline in bacterial counts at the undersurface of both flaps occurred within 24 hours, dropping significantly lower within musculocutaneous flaps. In addition to such surface properties of muscle as tissue ingrowth, rapid early augmentation of muscle blood flow may be largely responsible for superior bacterial suppression observed beneath musculocutaneous flaps.  相似文献

Insulin's action to stimulate glucose utilization is determined by the insulin concentration in interstitial fluid (ISF) of insulin-sensitive tissues. The concentration of interstitial insulin has been measured in human subcutaneous adipose tissue and skeletal muscle, however, never in parallel. The aim of this study was to compare interstitial insulin levels between both tissue beds by simultaneous measurements and to verify and quantify low peripheral ISF insulin fractions as found during moderate hyperinsulinemia. Nine healthy subjects (27.2 +/- 0.8 yr) were investigated. A euglycemic-hyperinsulinemic clamp was started with a primed-constant intravenous insulin infusion of 1 mU x kg(-1) x min(-1). For direct access to ISF, macroscopically perforated open-flow microperfusion catheters were inserted in both tissues. During steady-state conditions (9.5 h), interstitial effluents were collected in 30-min fractions using five different insulin concentrations in the inflowing perfusates ("no net flux" protocol). Regression analysis of insulin concentrations in perfusates and effluents yielded the relative recovery and the perfusate insulin concentration, which was in equilibrium with the surrounding tissue. Thus, in subcutaneous adipose tissue and skeletal muscle, the mean ISF-to-serum insulin level was calculated as 21.0% [95% confidence interval (CI) 17.5-24.5] and 26.0% (95% CI 19.1-32.8; P = 0.14), respectively. Recoveries for insulin averaged 51 and 64%, respectively. The data suggest that the concentrations of insulin arising in healthy subjects at the level of ISF per se are comparable between subcutaneous adipose and skeletal muscle tissue. The low interstitial insulin fractions seem to confirm reports of low peripheral insulin levels during moderate insulin clamps.  相似文献

Computed tomography was used to study soft tissues of the femur in 78 patients with its chronic recurrent osteomyelitis and the studied parameters were estimated. The fibrous changes were found to be more pronounced in posttraumatic osteomyelitis; the thickening of the subcutaneous fat and its atrophy were equally marked; the density gradients between the intact muscle, infiltrated muscle tissue, and purulent leakage were calculated.  相似文献

During the first 5 months of 1985, 35 moose were obtained for necropsy at the National Veterinary Institute, Uppsala, Sweden. 17 (49 %) of these cases were found to be infected with Elaphostrongylus sp. The nematodes were found in the epidural space of the spinal cord and brain, around and in the sciatic nerves and in muscle fasciae. Predilection sites appeared to be near cauda equina and the fasciae of the thoracic, gracilis and sartorius muscles. Most of the infected animals were calves. Both sexes were equally represented. Pathological changes found were characterized by focal haemorrhages and oedema. The changes were present in the muscle fasciae and in the leptomeninges of the brain and spinal cord. Beside infiltrates of mainly lymphocytes and plasma cells, adult nematodes, larvae and eggs were observed. Cases with mild gliosis in the cerebrum and degenerative changes of peripheral nerve roots affecting the epi- and perineurium were also found. In one case the inflammatory changes reached the endoneurium of a sciatic nerve bundle and in another case into a ganglion. Inflammatory reactions against the parasite were mainly directed towards eggs. In loose connective tissue close to nerve tissue in the central nervous system larvae were found close to eggs and remains of eggs indicating that eggs may hatch at this site. This investigation shows that natural infections with Elaphostrongylus sp. occur in wild moose and may produce pathological changes in large peripheral nerves and in the central nervous system.  相似文献

This study investigated the effects of dietary linolenic acid (C18:3n-3) v. linoleic acid (C18:2n-6) on fatty acid composition and protein expression of key lipogenic enzymes, acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD) and delta 6 desaturase (Δ6d) in longissimus muscle and subcutaneous adipose tissue of bulls. Supplementation of the diet with C18:3n-3 was accompanied by an increased level of n-3 fatty acids in muscle which resulted in decrease of n-6/n-3 ratio. The diet enriched with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) significantly inhibited SCD protein expression in muscle and subcutaneous adipose tissue, and reduced the Δ6d expression in muscle. There was no significant effect of the diet on ACC protein expression. Inhibition of the Δ6d expression was associated with a decrease in n-6 PUFA level in muscles, whereas repression of SCD protein was related to a lower oleic acid (C18:1 cis-9) content in the adipose tissue. Expression of ACC, SCD and Δ6d proteins was found to be relatively higher in subcutaneous adipose tissue when compared with longissimus muscle. It is suggested that dietary manipulation of fatty acid composition in ruminants is mediated, at least partially, through the regulation of lipogenic enzymes expression and that regulation of the bovine lipogenic enzymes expression is tissue specific.  相似文献

Tissues and serum from 59 raccoons (Procyon lotor), 42 coyotes (Canis latrans), and seven Striped Skunks (Mephitis mephitis) collected in Dane and Iowa Counties, Wisconsin, USA, between October 2005 and March 2006 were microscopically and serologically examined for the presence of Trichinella spp. Encapsulated larvae were found on compression slides prepared from tongue tissues from a few animals. Complete tissue digestion of tongues revealed that 19% of the raccoons, 26% of the coyotes, and none of the seven skunks tested were infected with Trichinella spp. Cats were subsequently experimentally infected by feeding them the raccoon tissues containing muscle larvae, and muscle larvae isolated from the collected tongues were experimentally transmitted to mice. Multiplex polymerase chain reaction analysis of the isolated muscle larvae demonstrated two distinct bands migrating at 127 base pairs (bp) and 316 bp in all samples, which together are diagnostic for Trichinella murrelli; the isolates were assigned Istituto Superiore di Sanita (ISS) codes ISS1656 through ISS1667, and ISS1708 through ISS1710 by the International Trichinella Reference Centre. These findings extend the geographic range of T. murrelli into Wisconsin, USA.  相似文献

The internal reference technique (IRT) was compared with the no net flux method (NFM) as a microdialysis calibration technique for sampling of interstitial histamine in the rat. Microdialysis catheters (polyacrylonitrile, 50 kD cut off) were inserted in liver, muscle, subcutaneous tissue and in an induced adenocarcinoma. Estimated relative recovery with IRT ranged from 23+/-2% in liver to 30+/-3% in subcutaneous tissue with and without tumor (p<0.05). By using the NFM-technique we found similar recovery as compared to the IRT in all tissues studied. Interstitial histamine was up to 3-fold higher than the mean plasma histamine concentration (54+/-2 nmol/l). Subcutaneous tissue (177+/-39 nmol/l) and subcutaneous tumor (165+/-29 nmol/l) exhibited high histamine while liver (65+/-14 nmol/l) and liver tumor (75+/-7 nmol/l) had low interstitial histamine concentrations. In conclusion, the IRT was validated against the NFM as a rapid method for histamine measurements in situ in the rat.  相似文献

Population dynamics of A. ritzemabosi and D. dipsaci were studied in two alfalfa fields in Wyoming. Symptomatic stem-bud tissue and root-zone soil from alfalfa plants exhibiting symptoms of D. dipsaci infection were collected at intervals of 3 to 4 weeks. Both nematodes were extracted from stem tissue with the Baermann funnel method and from soil with the sieving and Baermann funnel method. Soil moisture and soil temperature at 5 cm accounted for 64.8% and 61.0%, respectively, of the variability in numbers of both nematodes in soil at the Big Horn field. Also at the Big Horn field, A. ritzemabosi was found in soil on only three of the 14 collection dates, whereas D. dipsaci was found in soil on 12 dates. Aphelenchoides ritzemabosi was found in stem tissue samples on 9 of the 14 sampling dates whereas D. dipsaci was found on all dates. Populations of both nematodes in stem tissue peaked in October, and soil populations of both peaked in January, when soil moisture was greatest. Numbers of D. dipsaci in stem tissue were related to mean air temperature 3 weeks prior to tissue collection, while none of the climatic factors measured were associated with numbers of A. ritzemabosi. At the Dayton field, soil moisture plus soil temperature at 5 cm accounted for 98.2% and 91.4% of the variability in the soil populations of A. ritzemabosi and D. dipsaci, respectively. Aphelenchoides ritzemabosi was extracted from soil at two of the five collection dates, compared to extraction of D. dipsaci at three dates. Aphelenchoides ritzemabosi was collected from stem tissue at six of the seven sampling dates while D. dipsaci was found at all sampling dates. The only environmental factor that was associated with an increase in the numbers of both nematodes in alfalfa stem tissue was total precipitation 1 week prior to sampling, and this occurred only at the Dayton field. Numbers of A. ritzemabosi in stem tissue appeared to be not affected by any of the environmental factors studied, while numbers of D. dipsaci in stem tissue were associated with cumulative monthly precipitation, snow cover at time of sampling, and the mean weekly temperature 3 weeks prior to sampling. Harvesting alfalfa reduced the numbers of A. ritzemabosi at the Big Horn field and both nematodes at the Dayton field.  相似文献

The prevalence, mean intensity and distribution of Anisakis nematode third-stage larvae (L3) in the muscle and viscera of wild-caught chum salmon Oncorhynchus keta, pink salmon O. gorbuscha and sockeye salmon O. nerka were compared immediately after catch. Salmon were collected during the fishing season in July 2007 in Bristol Bay and Prince William Sound close to Cordova, Alaska (USA). All fish were infected, and more than 90% of the nematode larvae were found in the edible muscle meat. The isolated anisakid L3 were genetically identified as A. simplex (s.s.). The distribution of nematodes in the muscle meat of fresh-caught salmon was examined in 49 O. keta, 50 O. nerka and 12 O. gorbuscha from Cordova. Most of the larvae were detected in the muscle parts around the body cavity, but nematodes were also found in the tail meat and epaxial muscle (loins). The mean intensity of Anisakis larvae in the edible part was 21 individuals for O. gorbuscha, 62 individuals for O. keta and 63 individuals for O. nerka. No difference in the intensity of Anisakis larvae in the hypaxial muscle was found between fresh-caught and immediately gutted salmon and individuals stored ungutted for 24 h either on ice or in refrigerated sea water.  相似文献

We studied the kinetics of glucose exchange between plasma and interstitial fluid (ISF) in human skeletal muscle and adipose tissue under fasting conditions. Five normal human subjects received an intravenous [6,6-2H2]glucose infusion in a prime-continuous fashion. During the tracer infusion, the open-flow microperfusion technique was employed to frequently sample ISF from quadriceps muscle and subcutaneous adipose tissue. The tracer glucose kinetics observed in muscle and adipose tissue ISF were found to be well described by a capillary-tissue exchange model. As a measure of transcapillary glucose exchange efficiency, the 95% equilibrium time was calculated from the identified model parameters. This time constant was similar for skeletal muscle and adipose tissue (28.6 +/- 3.2 vs. 26.8 +/- 3.6 min; P = 0.60). Furthermore, we found that the (total) interstitial glucose concentration was significantly lower (P < 0.01) in muscle (3.32 +/- 0.46 mmol/l) and adipose tissue (3.51 +/- 0.17 mmol/l) compared with arterialized plasma levels (5.56 +/- 0.13 mmol/l). Thus the observed gradients and dynamic relationships between plasma and ISF glucose in muscle and adipose tissue provide evidence that transcapillary exchange of glucose is limited in these two tissues under fasting conditions.  相似文献

Seventeen New Zealand White rabbits underwent implantation of three different concentrations of bacteria and a sterile saline control solution with and without dead autologous bone in eight separate muscular and eight separate subcutaneous sites. Following a period of 1 week, each site was surgically explored and samples of tissue were taken for histology and quantitative culture. Results reveal that final bacterial concentrations in the subcutaneous sites were significantly lower than in the muscle sites (p less than or equal to 0.0001) for each concentration of bacteria, with and without dead bone. Dead bone resulted in very significantly greater bacterial concentrations in both subcutaneous and muscle sites. Clinically, these results indicate that a thorough bony wound debridement is more important than the type of tissue used to close the wound. Flap tissue should be selected with regard to the perfusion, contour, and appearance of the recipient site.  相似文献

Polymerase chain reaction was used to amplify and sequence a 710-bp region of the mtDNA protein-encoding gene, cytochrome c oxidase subunit I, in nine nematodes belonging to the order Strongylida, one nematode from the order Rhabditida and two nematodes from the order Ascaridida. This study tested the hypothesis that in the Strongylida, tissue migration in orally infecting nematodes reflects a legacy of skin penetrating strategies of host infection that were retained after an oral route of infection became established (percutaneous transmission model). Phylogenetic analyses (NJ, MP, ML) consistently produced a single tree topology with two clades within the Strongylida, one containing nematodes that incorporated tissue migration as part of their life cycles, and the other containing nematodes with no tissue migration. Our analysis concluded that the ancestral Strongylida possessed skin penetrating and tissue migrating characters that were modified as members of the group progressed along one of two evolutionary pathways. In one pathway, skin penetration was lost but tissue migration was retained as the nematodes evolved an oral infection route. In the other, both skin penetration and tissue migration characters were lost as the nematodes evolved an oral infection route. These data support the hypothesis of percutaneous transmission as being ancestral in the Strongylida.  相似文献

At the level of fascial penetration the cutaneous arteries of the lower extremity are constantly accompanied by 1 or 2 communicating veins of varying diameter. Usually, they penetrate the fascia in rows via the muscular interstitium. There they give up branches to the fascial vascular network, to pre- and subfascial areolar tissue and possibly to the muscle origins on the fascia, or to the intermuscular septa. The texture of the fascia itself determines the structure of fascial openings for the cutaneous vessels. In the subcutaneous tissue the arteries are accompanied by 1 or 2 veins (Vv. comitantes). Numerous arterio-arterial and intervenous anastomoses form a subcutaneous network of vascular bundles. Two anastomosing venous systems can be distinguished in the subcutis: The small Vv. comitantes are fed primarily by the subcutaneous adipose lobes, and end in communicating veins or flow into the subcutaneous veins (epifascial veins). These large subcutaneous veins on the other hand are responsible for the actual outflow from the venous network of the cutis. They form the saphenous system or empty into larger communicating veins. Between the subcutaneous arterioles and accompanying venules there are numerous capillary webs. In addition direct capillaries and looped as well as meandering or knotted arterio-venous shunts are found. The subcutaneous vascular bundles are fixed by a connective tissue. There are often typical capillary meshes within arterial sheat, oriented like a rope-ladder. They undergo prenatal development. The subcutaneous (epifascial) veins are surrounded by areolar tissue on the cutaneous as well as on the fascial side. Fibers from the accompanying connective tissue criss-cross into the adventitia and thereby anchor the veins in a movable fashion. Typical vascular patches with plane capillary networks characterize the areolar tissue around the subcutaneous veins, which is differentiating at the 2nd half of the fetal period. Within are also capillary loops and convoluted arterio-venous shunts.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the effect on EMG amplitude measures of variations in the thickness of underlying tissue between surface electrodes and the active muscle. 20 normal subjects with different amounts of subcutaneous tissue performed comparable constant force contractions for a 45-second period, during which paraspinal EMG recordings were taken. Three measures of subcutaneous tissue thickness were obtained from each subject: Body Mass Index, total body fat as calculated by Durnin's formula, and skinfold thickness at the recording sites. The results show that (i) the greater the thickness of subcutaneous tissue between the surface recording site and the contracting muscles, the lower the recorded electromyographic activity, and that (ii) up to 81.2% of the variance in the EMG measures can be explained by variation in the amount of subcutaneous tissue. These findings support the view that the absolute level of surface-recorded EMG cannot simply be taken at face value. The purpose of this study is to characterize the muscle architecture of children and adults using magnetic resonance elastography and ultrasound techniques. Five children (8-12 yr) and seven adults (24-58 yr) underwent both tests on the vastus medialis muscle at relaxed and contracted (10% and 20% of MVC) states. Longitudinal ultrasonic images were performed in the same area as the phase image showing the shear wave's propagation. Two geometrical parameters were defined: the wave angle (α(_MRE)) corresponding to the shear wave propagation and the fascicule angle (α(_US)) tracking the path of fascicles. Moreover, shear modulus was measured at different localizations within the muscle and in the subcutaneous adipose tissue. The association of both techniques demonstrates that the shear wave propagation follows the muscle fascicles path, reflecting the internal muscle architecture. At rest, ultrasound images revealed waves propagating parallel to the children fascicle while adults showed oblique waves corresponding to already oriented (α(_US)=15.4±2.54°) muscle fascicles. In contraction, the waves' propagation were in an oblique direction for children (α(_US_10%MVC)=10.6±2.27°, α(_US_20%MVC)=10.2±2.29°) as well as adults (α(_US_10%MVC)=15.4±2.54°, α(_US_20%MVC)=17.2±2.44°). A stiffness variation (1 kPa) was found between the upper and lower parts of the adult VM muscle and a lower stiffness (1.85±0.17 kPa) was measured in the subcutaneous adipose tissue. This study demonstrates the feasibility of the MRE technique to provide geometrical insights from the children and adults muscles and to characterize different physiological media.  相似文献

Deep mechanical massage has been advocated as an alternative or adjunctive therapy for the contouring of subcutaneous fat and as a treatment for cellulite. We evaluated the effects of deep mechanical massage using two pig models. Yucatan pigs were divided into three groups (n = 4). One side of each body received 4, 10, or 20 treatments and the other side served as a control. Full-thickness tissue sections, including the underlying muscle, were harvested from identical treated and untreated regions. Examination of these regionally matched samples revealed an accumulation of dense, longitudinal collagen bands in the middle dermal and deep subdermal regions, which progressively increased with the number of treatments. Distortion and disruption of adipocytes was noted. In Yorkshire pigs, force-transducing balloon catheters were surgically placed between the deep subcutaneous tissue and muscle fascia. Catheters were inserted into two regions with different skin and subcutaneous tissue characteristics, the midflank and the hip. Standardized maneuvers were performed at suction settings 3, 5, 7, and 9 to record baseline tissue forces. Each maneuver carried a unique force signature. The measurement of tissue forces was repeated on the opposite side after 10 standardized treatment sessions. Analysis showed a significant reduction of measured forces at the midflank after the treatments. The actual force measured with each particular maneuver varied between different operators but not with different suction settings, suggesting that the technique of administering the treatments is the primary factor in creating the force within the tissue. This leads to the conclusion that deep mechanical massage is highly dependent on the individual operator of the device.  相似文献

Adenosine triphosphatase activity stimulated by Mg2+ was greater in muscle mitochondria of fish infected with larval Anisakis simplex nematodes than in uninfected fish. When muscle mitochondria were isolated in a sucrose ethylene-glycol bis(beta-aminoethyl ether)N,N'-tetraacetic acid medium from fresh uninfected fish, they were loosely coupled, and their adenosine triphosphatase activity was comparable to that of mitochondria from rat tissue. Activity in infected fish was dose dependent, increasing with the number of worms per fish. Excretory secretory products or a cytoplasmic fraction of anisakines, when incubated with coupled rat mitochondria, also caused adenosine triphosphatase activity to increase. Storage of fish flesh caused an increase in adenosine triphosphatase activity, but such aging was not significant until 5 and 10 days after death in refrigerated and frozen samples, respectively. The Mg2+ stimulated adenosine triphosphatase activity of muscle mitochondria can be used to estimate the number of nematodes per market fish. The type of medium used to isolate the mitochondria is crucial in such studies; an ionic medium with Nagarse proteinase was optimal for fish muscle mitochondria.  相似文献

Changes in response to heat in the dermal, subcutaneous, and muscle blood flow in the hands of 10 patients with hand infections were studied using 133Xe and recording of clearance data. A further 15 normal hands were studied in a similar manner. The application of topical heat to normal hands resulted in a decrease in the dermal blood flow (p less than 0.001), an increase in the subcutaneous blood flow (p less than 0.05), and perhaps an increase in the intramuscular flow (p less than 0.1). This suggests that surface heat promotes a shunting of the blood from the skin to deeper tissue layers. In infected hands, the blood flow was found to be significantly increased threefold in the intradermal circulation (p less than 0.01) and eightfold in the subcutaneous circulation (p less than 0.03) when compared to controls. In contrast to normal hands, in the infected hands, the blood flow decreased in all three compartments by 50 percent following application of heat. The blood flow of the normal hand in patients with infection did not respond to heat in the normal pattern. We conclude that the application of local heat to normal tissues results in shunting of blood flow from superficial tissues such as dermis to deeper ones such as subcutaneous fat and muscle. In infected tissues, the blood flow was found to be much higher than normal; however, the traditional belief in the improvement in blood flow by the application of heat was not confirmed.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
