河流近自然化治理的理念正在逐步拓展和实现,对于仍在高速发展的中国来说,预示着传统的技术手段到了需要革新的时代。河流系统是多重等级系统,本文选取河段尺度的城市渠化河流作为研究对象,确定渠化河流的形态特征、功能特征和空间特征,并以此将渠化河流分为3类,即空间紧缩的、有弹性余地的和有较大空间拓展的河道。论文基于大量的基础研究和工程考察,对应3类河道,创新的提出城市紧缩型河道策略、城市弹性型河道策略和城市开拓型河道策略。该策略体系的总结是应对未来中国城市渠化河流改造趋势的一个重要的探索与努力。  相似文献

Atriopeptin III and related atrial natriuretic peptide hormones strongly elevate the level of cyclic GMP in three neural tumor cell lines. At peptide concentrations of 1 microM clear-cut plateaus of the dose-response curves are not yet reached. Atriopeptin III increases the intracellular concentration of cyclic GMP to a maximum in the course of 30-40 min. The effect of atriopeptin III on the cellular cyclic GMP level is independent of the concentration of extracellular Ca2+ and is not affected by the Ca2+ ionophore A23187. These results suggest (1) that atrial natriuretic hormones may play an important role in the nervous system, and (2) that cultured neural cells may be useful tools in the elucidation of the mechanisms of action of these hormones.  相似文献

Regulation of Transpiration to Improve Crop Water Use   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Decreasing fresh water supplies and increasing agricultural drought threaten sustainable worldwide crop production. Consequently, there is a global priority to develop crops with higher water use efficiency (WUE): biomass production or yield per unit of water used. Water use efficiency varies substantially among species and genotypes within a species, and a major effort is now underway to identify the genetic determinants of WUE. Today, it is known that genotypes in primary gene pools exhibit allelic variation for WUE through mechanisms that regulate transpiration, which is the conductance of water through stomata, the cuticle, and the boundary layer. Because of the differential diffusion properties of water and carbon dioxide (CO2) through these pathways, it is feasible that WUE could be improved by decreasing transpiration without a concomitant reduction in CO2 uptake. Since CO2 uptake and transpirational water loss occur predominantly through stomatal pores, it is not surprising that genes involved in stomatal development and stomatal opening/closing impact WUE. Furthermore, loss- and gain-of-function genetic screens have identified genes that regulate transpiration and WUE by yet undetermined mechanisms. This review will discuss the genetic determinants that regulate transpiration and WUE in the context of the modern agricultural goal of improving WUE while sustaining biomass and yield.  相似文献

2003年三峡水库蓄水至139m高程,在蓄水前(2000年)和蓄水后(2003~2006年)对长江主河道尾水点所在的丰都至忠县江段和上游河道区域,以及支流河道的巫山县大宁河139m水位尾水点的崖沙燕(Riparia riparia)种群分布和数量进行了调查。结果表明,在水库蓄水至139m之后崖沙燕的种群数量明显减少。影响崖沙燕种群数量的关键因素是丧失繁殖地。随着三峡大坝工程的全面竣工和运行,三峡库区的崖沙燕有可能将会成为少见物种。  相似文献

Background

Evidence suggests that multiple concurrent sexual partnering may be a key driver of the high HIV prevalence among young women in South Africa. However, little is known about whether and to what extent women who have multiple sexual partners also engage in other high risk sexual behaviors such as inconsistent condom use. And yet, multiple concurrent sexual partnering is of little epidemiological relevance if all partners in these sexual networks use condoms consistently. This study assesses the prevalence of sexual risk behaviors and HIV, and predictors of inconsistent condom use among women aged 16–24 with multiple sexual partners in a peri-urban setting in South Africa.

Methods

We used Respondent Driven Sampling, a sampling strategy for hard-to-reach populations to recruit 259 women aged 16–24 in a bio-behavioral cross-sectional survey in the Western Cape province. Estimates of population proportions and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using the Respondent-Driven Sampling Analysis Tool 5.6 (RDSAT). The primary outcome was inconsistent condom use in the past three months.

Results

Young women reported an average of 7 partners in the past 3 months and a high prevalence of sexual risk behaviors: concurrency (87%), transactional sex (91%) and age mixing (59%). Having >5 sexual partners in the last 3 months doubled the risk of unprotected sex (OR 2.43, CI 1.39–4.25). HIV prevalence was 4% among 16–19 year olds, increasing threefold (12%) at age 20–24.

Discussion

Multiple sexual partnering, where a high number of partners are acquired in a short space of time, is a fertile context for unprotected and risky sexual behavior. The young women featured in this survey present with a constellation of high-risk sexual behaviors that cluster to form a risk syndrome. Carefully tailored repeat bio-behavioral surveillance surveys are recommended for this sub-population.  相似文献

Perennial grass systems are being evaluated as a bioenergy feedstock in the northern Great Plains. Inter-annual and inter-seasonal precipitation variation in this region will require efficient water use to maintain sufficient yield production to support a mature bioenergy industry. Objectives were to evaluate the impact of a May–June (early season) and a July–August (late season) drought on the water use efficiency (WUE), amount of water used, and biomass production in monocultures of switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.), western wheatgrass (Pascopyrum smithii (Rydb.) Á. Löve), and a western wheatgrass–alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) mixture using an automated rainout shelter. WUE was strongly driven by biomass accumulation and ranged from 5.6 to 7.4 g biomass mm?1 water for switchgrass to 1.06 to 2.07 g biomass mm?1 water used with western wheatgrass. Timing of water stress affected WUE more in western wheatgrass and the western wheatgrass–alfalfa mixture than switchgrass. Water deficit for the western wheatgrass–alfalfa mixture was 23 % lower than western wheatgrass (P?=?0.0045) and 31 % lower than switchgrass (P?<?0.0001) under the May–June stress water treatment, while switchgrass had a 37 and 38 % greater water deficit than did western wheatgrass or western wheatgrass–alfalfa mixture, respectively (P?<?0.001) under the July–August water stress treatment. Water depletion was always greatest in the upper 30 cm. Switchgrass had greater WUE but resulted in greater soil water depletion at the end of the growing season compared to western wheatgrass and a western wheatgrass–alfalfa mixture which may be a concern under multi-year drought conditions.  相似文献

The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of low-frequency ultrasounds applied to eliminate Campylobacter spp. from water. The strains used in this research were isolated from water contaminated with sewage. Campylobacter coli alone was detected in the samples and used for further research. The reference strain C. coli ATCC 33559 was simultaneously tested. The isolate was exposed to ultrasounds at frequencies of 37 kHz and 80 kHz in a continuous operation device with ultrapure deionized water. After 5 min of sonication, the count of C. coli decreased by 5.78% (37 kHz) and 6.27% (80 kHz), whereas the temperature increased by 3°C (37 kHz), and 6°C (80 kHz). After 30 min of sonication, the death rates of bacterial cells were 40.15% (37 kHz) and 55.10% (80 kHz), whereas the temperature reached the maximum values of 36°C (37 kHz), and 39°C (80 kHz). Sonication at the frequency of 80 kHz reduced the bacterial count from 6.86 log CFU/ml to 3.08 log CFU/ml, whereas the frequency of 37 kHz reduced the bacterial count from 6.75 log CFU/ml to 4.04 log CFU/ml. Endocytosis of the Delta ligand presumably drives "trans-endocytosis" of Notch resulting in proteolytic activation of the receptor. This model is founded in Delta mutants that reportedly fail to undergo endocytosis. One such allele, DlRF, gives a temperature-sensitive loss-of-function, purported to be an endocytosis mutant. Here we show that in lineages of Delta-expressing larval neurons the DlRF protein fails to localize to neurites consistent with a failure in trafficking to the plasma membrane. We find that the DlRF allele carries two mutations, G305E and C348Y, in the extracellular epidermal growth factor-like (EGF) repeats 3 and 4. Co-expression of GFP-tagged DlRF and RFP-tagged wild-type Delta (DlWT) in S2 cells demonstrates complete segregation of the proteins at 30ºC with DlRF failing to localize to the plasma membrane. As well, DlRF fails to undergo a characteristic proteolytic processing. Altogether the data indicate that the DlRF allele has limited utility for studying Delta endocytosis mechanisms but is well suited as a tool for loss-of-function studies.  相似文献

Benthic macroalgal communities constitute one of the ecological quality elements needed to implement the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC), the legislation targetted at sustainable management of the European aquatic environment. As the Directive foresees the establishment of Ecological Status Class boundaries and Reference Conditions in coastal waters, a study was conducted on the Attica coast of Greece to identify the best method to use macroalgal community data for evaluating ecological quality and at the same time keep the program within a low budget. Six seasonal quantitative and qualitative samples were taken from the upper infralittoral macroalgal communities on the Attica coast of Greece on six occasions between summer 1998 and spring 2002; these sites, which reflect a gradient of anthropogenic perturbation, were used on each occasion. A list of 60 macroalgal taxa was prepared, the cover value of each taxon was measured and the structure of the vegetation was described. The use of four different indices (Shannon-Weaver index, Pielou evenness, Multi-Dimensional Scaling plot of Bray-Curtis similarity, Ecological Evaluation index-EEI) were compared. The multidimensional scaling of Bray-Curtis similarity and the EEI were better at indicating the perturbation pattern of the study area. However, only the EEI succeeded in distinguishing four quality classes (‘low’ to ‘high’). By using EEI, a spatial scale-weighted evaluation of ecological quality was also performed. Background and Study Aims

Bile stones represent a highly prevalent condition and abnormalities of the biliary tree predispose to stone recurrence due to development of biliary stasis. In our study, we assessed the importance of an altered bile duct course for stone formation.

Patients and Methods

1,307 patients with choledocholithiasis in the absence of any associated hepatobiliary disease who underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) between 2002 and 2009 were analysed. The angle enclosed between the horizontal portion of the common bile duct (CBD) and the horizontal plane was measured (angle α). Oblique common bile duct (OCBD) was defined as a CBD with angle α<45°.

Results

103 patients (7.9%) were found to harbour OCBD and these were compared to 104 randomly selected control subjects. Compared to controls, OCBD patients were (i) significantly older (72±13 vs. 67±13, p<0.00001); (ii) more frequently underwent a cholecystectomy (p = 0.02) and biliary surgery (p = 0.003) prior to the diagnosis and (iii) more often developed chronic pancreatitis (p = 0.04) as well as biliary fistulae (p = 0.03). Prior to and after ERCP, OCBD subjects displayed significantly elevated cholestatic parameters and angle α negatively correlated with common bile duct diameter (r = -0.29, p = 0.003). OCBD subjects more often required multiple back-to-back ERCP sessions to remove bile stones (p = 0.005) as well as more ERCPs later on due to recurrent stone formation (p<0.05).

Conclusion

OCBD defines a novel variant of the biliary tree, which is associated with chronic cholestasis, hampers an efficient stone removal and predisposes to recurrence of bile duct stones.  相似文献

Background

For generations many families in and around Florida''s Apalachicola National Forest have supported themselves by collecting the large endemic earthworms (Diplocardia mississippiensis). This is accomplished by vibrating a wooden stake driven into the soil, a practice called “worm grunting”. In response to the vibrations, worms emerge to the surface where thousands can be gathered in a few hours. Why do these earthworms suddenly exit their burrows in response to vibrations, exposing themselves to predation?

Principal Findings

Here it is shown that a population of eastern American moles (Scalopus aquaticus) inhabits the area where worms are collected and that earthworms have a pronounced escape response from moles consisting of rapidly exiting their burrows to flee across the soil surface. Recordings of vibrations generated by bait collectors and moles suggest that “worm grunters” unknowingly mimic digging moles. An alternative possibility, that worms interpret vibrations as rain and surface to avoid drowning is not supported.

Conclusions

Previous investigations have revealed that both wood turtles and herring gulls vibrate the ground to elicit earthworm escapes, indicating that a range of predators may exploit the predator-prey relationship between earthworms and moles. In addition to revealing a novel escape response that may be widespread among soil fauna, the results show that humans have played the role of “rare predators” in exploiting the consequences of a sensory arms race.  相似文献

Direct visualization of water-conducting pathways and sap flows in xylem vessels is important for understanding the physiology of vascular plants and their sap ascent. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) combined with synchrotron X-ray imaging technique is a new promising tool for investigating plant hydraulics in opaque xylem vessels of vascular plants. However, in practical applications of AuNPs for real-time quantitative visualization of sap flows, their interaction with a vascular network needs to be verified in advance. In this study, the effect of AuNPs on the water-refilling function of xylem vessels is experimentally investigated with three monocot species. Discrepancy in the water uptakes starts to appear at about 20 min to 40 min after the supply of AuNP solution to the test plant by the possible gradual accumulation of AuNPs on the internal structures of vasculature. However conclusively, it is observed that the water-refilling speeds in individual xylem vessels are virtually unaffected by hydrophilically surface-modified AuNPs (diameter ∼20 nm). Therefore, the AuNPs can be effectively used as flow tracers in the xylem vessels in the first 20∼30 min without any physiological barrier. As a result, AuNPs are found to be useful for visualizing various fluid dynamic phenomena occurring in vascular plants.  相似文献
