A functional response study of Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens) larvae to different densities of sugar cane whitefly Aleurolobus barodensis (Maskell) was conducted in test tubes at 26?±?2 °C, 65?±?5 % RH. Chrysoperla carnea showed two different types of functional response in larval instars. First instar exhibits type II. However, second and third larval instars revealed type III functional response. Based on modified Holling’s disk equation, the highest searching rates (a) of 0.82?±?0.0247 h?1 was found for first instar larva. For second and third larval instars, the attack coefficient (b) were 0.002?±?0.030 and 0.0025?±?0.0424 respectively. The shortest handling time (Th) per prey was observed at third instar stage (1.574?±?0.0568 h) followed by second and first instar with 1.72?±?0.0411 h and 1.919?±?0.0568 h respectively.  相似文献

Gaeolaelaps aculeifer (Canestrini, 1883) is a soil-dwelling predatory mite with potential for use as a biological control agent of fungus gnats (Diptera: Sciaridae) in mushroom production. The life table, predation rate and population growth rate of G. aculeifer on a diet of larvae of the sciarid fly, Lycoriella auripila, at 23?±?1°C, 60?±?5% RH and a photoperiod of 0:24 (L:D)?h was investigated. The results revealed that the duration of egg, larva, protonymph, deutonymph, females and males of G. aculeifer were 3.8?±?0.1, 1.4?±?0.1, 3.9?±?0.1, 4.1?±?0.1, 67.7?±?2.8 and 60.3?±?3.1 days, respectively. Net reproductive rate (R0) was 54.8?±?7.1 offspring, intrinsic rate of increase (r) was 0.12?±?0.01 offspring day?1, finite rate of increase (λ) was 1.13?±?0.01 day?1and mean generation time (T) was 32.3?±?0.6 days. The predator consumed a mean of 0.08?±?0.05, 1.73?±?0.18, 3.16?±?0.28 and 75.9?±?7.1 third instar L. auripila larvae during the larval (1.3?±?0.1 days), protonymph (3.9?±?0.1 days), deutonymph (4.1?±?0.1 days) and adult (52.6?±?2.2 days) stages. Population parameters and consumption rates suggest that G. aculeifer has good potential as a biological control agent of L. auripila in mushroom production.  相似文献

As one of the most important natural enemies of aphids, lady beetles have been widely used for the control of pest aphids. Important to the efficiency of natural enemies is their functional response to varying prey densities. In this study, the functional response of Hippodamia variegata Goeze (Col.: Coccienllidae) to different densities of Diuraphis noxia Mordvilko was examined on two wheat cultivars with different resistance levels under laboratory conditions (25 ± 1°C, 65 ± 5% RH and 16:8 L:D photoperiod). Our results revealed that all stages of H. variegata exhibited a type II functional response, in that predation decreased with increasing prey density. Searching efficiency (a) and handling time (Th) of third instar larvae on the Sardari cultivar were 0.0285/h and 0.0079 h, while for fourth instar larvae these values were 0.0561/h and 1 × 10?8 h, for males these values were 0.0412/h and 0.0173 h and for females were 0.059/h and 0.0168 h. The corresponding values for the back cross cultivar for third instar larvae were 0.0475/h and 0.0782 h, for fourth instar larvae were 0.0753/h and 0.0529 h, for males were 0.045/h and 0.0060 h and for females were 0.0516/h and 0.0077 h. This study demonstrated that these wheat cultivars do not have a significant effect on the functional response parameters of H. variegata life stages, except for the searching efficiency of third instar larvae and the handling time of male adults. The possible application of this species against Russian wheat aphids in an integrated pest management programme is also discussed.  相似文献

Abstract Understanding predator–prey interactions has a pivotal role in biological control programs. This study evaluated the functional response of three larval instars of the green lacewing, Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens), preying upon eggs and first instar larvae of the cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera Hübner. The first and second instar larvae of C. carnea exhibited type II functional responses against both prey stages. However, the third instar larvae of C. carnea showed a type II functional response to the first instar larvae of H. armigera, but a type III functional response to the eggs. For the first instar larvae of C. carnea, the attack rate on H. armigera eggs was significantly higher than that on the larvae, whereas the attack rate of the second instar C. carnea on H. armigera larvae was significantly higher than that on the eggs. For the third instar larvae of C. carnea, the attack rate on the larvae was 1.015 ± 0.278/h, and the attack coefficient on the eggs was 0.036 ± 0.005. The handling times of the third instar larvae on larvae and eggs were 0.087 ± 0.009 and 0.071 ± 0.001 h, respectively. The highest predation rate was found for the third instar larvae of C. carnea on H. armigera eggs. Results of this study revealed that the larvae of C. carnea, especially the third instar, had a good predation potential in controlling H. armigera eggs and larvae. However, for a comprehensive estimation of the bio‐control abilities of C. carnea toward H. armigera, further field‐based studies are needed.  相似文献

Exposing to sub-lethal and low lethal doses of pesticides may cause changes in natural enemy behavioural, such as functional, response. In this study, the effects of chlorpyrifos, carbaryl, abamectin and spinosad were evaluated on the functional response of the Habrobracon hebetor to different densities of last instar larvae of Anagasta kuehniella Zeller. Young adult females of the parasitoid were exposed to LC30 of chlorpyrifos, carbaryl, abamectin and spinosad that were 0.32, 4.03, 3.05 and 17.51?mg a.i./l for 24?h, respectively. Host densities of 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 were offered to treated young females for 2?h in 10-cm Petri dishes and then the parasitism data were recorded. Experiments were conducted in eight replications. Functional response type was determined using logistic regression and the parameters were appraised by non-linear regression using statistical analysis software. Functional response was type Ш in control and insecticide treatments. Searching efficiency in control, chlorpyrifos-, carbaryl-, abamectin- and spinosad-treated wasps were 0.008?±?0.002, 0.002?±?0.0009, 0.0034?±?0.0013, 0.0076?±?0.002 and 0.0073?±?0.002?h?1and handling times were 1.38?±?0.1, 7.64?±?1.01, 3.3?±?0.315, 1.55?±?0.1 and 1.46?±?0.11?h, respectively. Chlorpyrifos and carbaryl had the highest effect on searching efficiency of H. hebetor. Spinosad and abamectin showed less adverse effect on the functional response parameters. Finally, after conducting the advanced field studies, spinosad and abamectin may be used as a compatible chemical material with biological control agent in integrated pest management programmes.  相似文献

Abstract

Dactylopius opuntiae, is known as specific Opuntia cochineal in many countries around the world. This sap-sucking insect was first detected in Morocco in 2014. To address the problem, the feeding potential of different development stages of Cryptolaemus montrouzieri Mulsant, a biological control agent against mealybugs, was investigated on different development stages of D. opuntiae. Fourth instar larvae and adults of C. montrouzieri were the most voracious feeders on different instars of the mealybug. The numbers of mealybug eggs consumed by first, second, third and fourth instar larva and adults of C. montrouzieri were 36.18?±?1.84, 68.08?±?4.17, 280.55?±?5.41, 540.55?±?5.35, 6514.13?±?64.28, respectively. The numbers of mealybug nymphs consumed by the same stages of C. montrouzieri were 35.43?±?1.75, 67.73?±?3.88, 279.85?±?5.58, 539.63?±?5.08 and 6501.7?±?81.94 (first instars) and 34.83?±?1.20, 57.45?±?1.22, 83.80?±?1.92, 213.65?±?3.46 and 6013.23?±?35.46 (second instars), respectively. The corresponding figures for adult female mealybugs were 1.40?±?0.78, 10.65?±?1.83, 18.58?±?1.24, 25.23?±?1.10 and 197.15?±?3.29, respectively. The egg, larval, prepupal, pupal and adult stages occupied 3.36–3.69, 20.21–27.59, 1.31–1.59, 10.62–10.72 and 96.10–102.51?days, respectively when the coccinellid was reared on different stages of D. opuntiae. The results indicate that C. montrouzieri has the potential to be used as a biocontrol agent in Morocco.  相似文献

This study aimed to determine the effects of Duddingtonia flagrans contained in sodium alginate pellets on trichostrongylide larvae under different storage conditions and durations. The in vitro predatory activity of D. flagrans in pellets against trichostrongylide larvae in sheep faeces were assessed at 0, 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after the pellet was stored under four different conditions (i.e. ?20, 4°C, outdoors, and indoors). These results revealed that the numbers of larvae in faeces of sheep treated with pellets containing chlamydospores (treatment groups) were significantly lower than those in the control groups (without chlamydospores) for all trial months under four storage conditions for different durations (p?<?.05). The obtained reduction rates of the infective larvae (L3) in the four treatment groups ranged from 45.62% to 96.73% throughout the entire experiment. The overall mean L3 reduction percentages were 89.22%?±?3.74%, 88.97%?±?1.33%, 68.60%?±?14.31%, and 75.45%?±?13.18% for 4°C refrigeration, ?20°C refrigeration, indoor, and outdoor conditions, respectively. The pellets stored under these storage conditions for a year were provided to sheep for ingestion (in vivo test), and the results showed that the number of recovered larvae in sheep faeces at 24?h after ingestion were significantly lower than that before ingestion. For in vivo test, the L3 reduction percentage in the faeces was 90.99% (?20°C), 74.81% (outdoor), 83.53% (4°C), and 65.60% (indoor). Under the four storage conditions, D. flagrans spores contained in the pellets can maintain their survival ability to a varying degree in a year.  相似文献

Predation upon lady beetle (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) eggs in the field is most often instances of egg cannibalism by larvae or adults while the majority of the remaining predation events upon coccinellid eggs is done by other species of Coccinellidae. Thus the recent introduction and establishment of Harmonia axyridis in the US could negatively affect native species of Coccinellidae via egg predation. However, little is known regarding the suitability of interspecific coccinellid eggs as a food source for larval development. In this study, it was found that native first or third instar Coleomegilla maculata and Olla v-nigrum larvae were incapable of surviving to the adult stage when provided solely exotic H. axyridis eggs. In stark contrast, H. axyridis larvae survived equally well when cannibalizing eggs or eating eggs of either native species. When C. maculata and O. v-nigrum were grouped as ‘native’ and compared with the exotic H. axyridis, more native eggs were attacked than exotic eggs and a higher percentage of eggs was attacked by H. axyridis larvae. Native and exotic larvae attacked a similar percentage of native eggs but native larvae attacked significantly fewer exotic eggs than did exotic larvae. These data suggest that H. axyridis may prey upon the eggs of these native species, when encountered in the field, compared with the likelihood of the native species preying upon H. axyridis eggs. Therefore, eggs of the native species C. maculata and O. v-nigrum will continue to be subjected to cannibalism and also to possible predation by other native species and the exotic H. axyridis.  相似文献

Cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) is a cosmopolite insect pest of a wide spectrum of crops such as cotton, maize, tomato, soybean, etc. Egg parasitoids mainly Trichogramma brassicae Bezdenko and Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner (Bt) are biological control agents, that are used as components of sustainable and environmentally compatible IPM systems. Although Bt does not come in direct contact with egg parasitoids, it may persist within the host’s body and affect the quality of the host’s eggs via biochemical changes in their mother and possibly behaviour and potency of the parasitoids. In this study, the functional response of T. brassicae to different densities of H. armigera eggs was investigated in two sets of experiments at 26?±?1?°C, 65?±?5% RH, and 16: 8?h photoperiod. The first group was a control and the second one were eggs laid by hosts treated as 3rd instar larvae with LC20 of Bt (determined as 9.8?×?105?IU/l of artificial diet based on a preliminary bioassay). A type III functional response was observed in both treatments with a direct density dependent mortality up to eight host eggs and an inverse one upward. Both handling time and searching efficiency were affected by Bt treatment as the handling time was increased by a factor of 1.5 and the searching efficiency was decreased by a factor of 0.6. The searching efficiencies were 0.0310?±?0.003 and 0.0182?±?0.005?h?1, and handling times were 1.134?±?0.042 and 1.672?±?0.082?h in control and Bt treatment respectively.  相似文献

In this study, we focused on the direct (i.e., predation) and indirect (i.e., potential threat from coexisting with a larger individual) effects of cannibalism and intraguild predation (IGP) during larval stages of two sibling ladybird beetles. These effects play an important role in the coexistence of the generalist–common Harmonia axyridis and specialist–rare H. yedoensis (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae). Direct predation effect of cannibalism and IGP was asymmetric in the two sibling ladybird beetles; the fourth instar larvae of H. axyridis were better intraguild predators than cannibals, while the reverse was true in the larvae of H. yedoensis. Neither cannibalism nor IGP significantly affected female body weight in either species. Larval H. axyridis surviving exposure to cannibalism or IGP had a reduced number of ovarioles as adults, whereas adult H. yedoensis ovarioles were not affected. For the indirect effects, longer developmental times in males and females and a lower total number of ovarioles in females were detected in H. axyridis. In H. yedoensis, shorter developmental time of males, lighter adult weight and fewer total ovarioles in females were observed. Olfactometer choice experiments clarified that the fourth instar larvae of H. axyridis avoided the first instar conspecific larvae, while those of H. yedoensis were attracted to the odors from H. axyridis and conspecifics. Thus, H. axyridis has an avoidance mechanism only for cannibalism but not for IGP, whereas H. yedoensis does not have any avoidance mechanism. These different behaviors in the direct and indirect effects of cannibalism and IGP observed in the laboratory may play important roles in the coexistence of generalist–common H. axyridis and specialist–rare H. yedoensis in natural conditions, compensating for the large handicap of H. yedoensis at reproductive interference from H. axyridis.  相似文献

The relative suitability of five instars of Diaphania indica (Saunders) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) as a substrate for the development of a larval parasitoid, Apanteles stantoni Ashmead (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), was investigated. Maximum parasitism (22.25?±?1.21%) under laboratory conditions was observed in the early larval instars. The highest parasitoid emergence was recorded from the second (86.07?±?0.70%) and third (98.93?±?0.72%) instar larvae of D. indica, and that from the first larvae was 71.43?±?1.18%. The number of cocoons in each cluster, length and width of single cocoons, percentage emergence, sex ratio and adult longevity of A. stantoni collected from different instars of D. indica were also recorded. These results indicated that the life stage of the host when the parasitoid larvae complete their final instar is particularly important for their development. Therefore, considering the efficiency of parasitism and reproduction, the second-instar larvae of D. indica is the most suitable stage for mass rearing A. stantoni in the laboratory.  相似文献

Searching capacity is of great importance in the efficiency of natural enemies. In this research, the host-stage preference and functional response of Diaeretiella rapae (McIntosh) to different densities of greenbug, Schizaphis graminum (Rondani) were determined on Pishtaz wheat leaves at 25 ± 1°C, 60–70% relative humidity, and a photoperiod of 16:8 h (L:D). The host-stage preference was investigated by exposing 60 number of all nymphal instars and adults of greenbug to individual parasitoid females at eight replicates. Results indicated significant preference of D. rapae to second instar nymphs of S. graminum to perform functional response experiment. Densities of 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 50, 64, 90 and 130 second instar nymphs of greenbugs were exposed to individual mated female wasps at 10 replicates for 24 h. Type of functional response was determined by logistic regression and its parameters, searching efficiency (a) and handling time (T h), were estimated by non linear regression. The results indicated that the functional response of D. rapae was type III and values of searching efficiency, handling time and maximum rate of parasitism were calculated by two models as 0.1364 ± 0.084, 0.5761 ± 0.0179, 41.6594; 0.06489 ± 0.00652 (h?1), 0.5628 ± 0.0173 (h) and 42.6439 (aphids/parasitoid/day), respectively.  相似文献

To improve the laboratory mass rearing and the winter greenhouse use of the multicoloured Asian lady beetle Harmonia axyridis (Pallas) (Coleoptera, Coccinellidae), the effects of photoperiod on the development and fecundity of H. axyridis were investigated at 20°C and photoperiods ranging from 0L:24D to 24L:0D. We foun'd photoperiod to significantly affect the pre-imaginal development and reproduction of H. axyridis. The development of the pre-imaginal stage was significantly faster at shorter photoperiods (0–14?h) than at longer ones (16–24?h). The proportion of females laying eggs within the first 30 days after eclosion, the mean number of eggs per ovipositing female, and the long axial length of the first oocyte were all lower at shorter photoperiods (6–12?h) than at longer ones (14–24?h). These results suggest that adult H. axyridis may encounter problems in preying and reproducing in the winter conditions of unheated and unilluminated greenhouses in areas with temperatures lower than 20°C and day lengths shorter than 12?h.  相似文献

Life tables for two predatory ladybirds,Coccinella septempunctata andHarmonia axyridis, were constructed in two years in which prey abundance differed. The prey aphid,Aphis gossypii, was abundant on its primary host from late May to late June. Females ofH. axyridis andC. septempumctata laid their eggs during the increase and peak in aphid abundance. The oviposition period ofC. septempunctata started before and was shorter than that ofH. axyridis. In both species, intraguild predation and/or cannibalism of the egg and fourth instar stages, but rarely of other developmental stages, were observed. Fourth instar larvae ofH. axyridis had to complete their development when aphids were scarce more frequently than those ofC. septempunctata. The highest frequency of intra- and interspecific predation was of fourth instarH. axyridis larvae. In terms of intraguild predation, the larvae ofH. axyridis preyed on larvae ofC. septempunctata, but the reverse was not observed. Percentage survival from egg to adult inH. axyridis was higher than inC. septempunctata in both years, and least in both species in the year of low aphid abundance. These results suggest that prey abundance influenced the frequency of cannibalism and intraguild predation, which were important in structuring this guild of ladybirds.  相似文献

The functional response of a predator describes the rate at which it kills its prey at different prey densities and is, therefore, an important tool to determine the efficiency of a predator in regulating the population dynamics of a prey. We investigated the functional response of Coccinella septempunctata L. (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) to varying densities of Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris) (Hemiptera: Aphididae). The results revealed that the linear coefficient, P1 in the reduced logistic model was found significantly negative for the 4th instar larvae and adult male and female of C. septempunctata (?0.002, ?0.004 and???0.002, respectively) indicating a type II functional response. The parameter estimates of adult male, female and 4thinstar larvae of C. septempunctata calculated through Holling's disc model revealed that the highest attack rate (a) (1.047?±?0.014), shortest handling time (Th) (0.0984?±?0.024?h) and largest maximum capture rate (T/Th) (243.902) was exhibited by female. Parameter estimates calculated through Rogers’s equation also showed the same sequence where maximum attack rate (a) of 0.00256?±?0.0003 was exhibited by female followed by 4th instar larvae (0.00251?±?0.0005). The shortest handling time (Th) (0.210?±?0.003?h) and highest maximum capture rate (T/Th) (114.17) was also exhibited by female. Comparison of functional response curves of adult male, female and 4th instar larvae revealed that maximum consumption of prey at all the densities offered was shown by female followed by 4thinstar larvae. The study manifested that C. septempunctata could be an efficient biocontrol agent of pea aphid, A. pisum.  相似文献

Neodiprion zhejiangenis Zhou &; Xiao 1981 (Hymenoptera: Diprionidae) nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NezhNPV) is a biocontrol factor with high development potential and application prospects. To study the insecticidal activity of NezhNPV against the larvae of N. zhejiangenis, the susceptibility of larvae at different instars to different NezhNPV concentrations was determined based on laboratory bioactivity. At 2.0?×?107 polyhedron inclusion body (PIB)/mL, the median lethal time required to kill 50% of the instar 2 and 3 larvae was approximately 5 d, whereas the median lethal time of the instar 4 and 5 larvae was 8–9 d. Interestingly, at the NezhNPV concentrations of 2.0?×?103 and 2.0?×?104 PIB/mL, the feeding ability of the surviving larvae was decreased by 57.4% and 76.4%, respectively, compared with the controls; the pupal weight at both concentrations was decreased by approximately 27%, and the adult emergence rate was decreased by 27.4% and 50.9%, respectively, with a significantly higher proportion of males than of females. The results showed that younger instar larvae of N. zhejiangenis were more susceptible to NezhNPV infection than older instar larvae. The larval mortality rate was dependent on the larval instar and NezhNPV concentration.  相似文献

Harmonia axyridis (Pallas) is a coccinellid of Asian origin that has recently invaded substantial parts of Europe and is suspected to affect native coccinellid populations through intraguild predation and competition for food. Previous work has shown that two species from the Calvia genus appeared to be well protected against H. axyridis predation. To deepen our understanding on chemical protection of Calvia spp. and the predation risk by H. axyridis, we tested for susceptibility and palatability of Calvia spp. and H. axyridis eggs against predation by H. axyridis neonate larvae. Results show that eggs of C. quatuordecimguttata were mostly not eaten by H. axyridis, while eggs of the congeneric C. decemguttata were found to be largely unprotected against predation by the invasive coccinellid. We also observed that H. axyridis first instars successfully cannibalized on conspecific eggs. Removing the surface chemicals from C. quatuordecimguttata eggs resulted in significantly reduced protection from being preyed upon by H. axyridis, while applying these extracts onto C. decemguttata and H. axyridis eggs resulted in increased protection against H. axyridis larvae. The importance of surface chemicals in the interactions between H. axyridis and native coccinellids was confirmed by GC–MS analysis, showing a high diversity of hydrocarbons located on the surface of C. quatuordecimguttata eggs, i.e. more than twice as many when compared to C. decemguttata. Survival of H. axyridis larvae feeding on eggs of C. quatuordecimguttata, C. decemguttata or conspecific eggs, from which surface chemicals were removed by washing them with hexane, was not different from survival on unwashed eggs.  相似文献

Major impacts of biological invasions are widely recognized and underscore the need to understand the relation between life-history traits of invasive species and the invasion process. Growth of juveniles and adult survival of invasive species are key factors in invasion process. Life-history traits that increase juvenile fitness including increased rates of development and behavioral characteristics that facilitate competitive success such as increased predator efficiency and foraging ability may explain invasiveness of a species. Invasion of Harmonia axyridis Pallas (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) in North America provides an opportunity to investigate life-history traits of juveniles of an invasive species. Here, we evaluate both developmental and behavioral traits that may explain the success of H. axyridis by comparing it to an ecologically similar indigenous species Coleomegilla maculata lengi Timberlake (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae). Three points may contribute to the invasiveness of H. axyridis. First, development of H. axyridis was faster during the 2nd larval instar than C. maculata, a characteristic that may reduce vulnerability at young instars. Second, H. axyridis reached the 4th instar more rapidly than C. maculata. The 4th instar of H. axyridis was also characterized by higher predation efficiency with increased voracity, lethal contact and search efficiency of pea aphids Acyrthosiphon pisum. Finally, surprisingly, a 5th larval instar occured in 33% of the individuals of H. axyridis and was characterized by the same developmental time, but with increased voracity and weight gain compared to 4th larval instars, suggesting an increased fitness of these individuals. These developmental characteristics coupled with increased predation efficiency and behavioral characteristics enhanced the juvenile growth and predatory abilities of this species and may contribute to the invasive ability of H. axyridis.  相似文献

Greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum, is a serious pest of glasshouse crops. It shows resistance to different insecticides and growers are interested in finding other useful control methods. This research was carried out to study the predation potential and biology of Clitostethus arcuatus (Rossi) as one of the most important predators of this pest. Adult C. arcuatus were reared on tobacco leaves bearing colonies of greenhouse whitefly eggs under controlled conditions (25±2°C, 65±5% RH and 16 h L:8 h D). Results showed that the average developmental time of the egg, first through fourth instar larva and pupa were 2.82±0.12, 4.47±0.14, 4.54±0.1, 6.3±0.2, 7±0.22 and 3.8±0.13 days, respectively; and longevity of female and male were 66.4±2.6 and 54.9±2.5 days, respectively. The average feeding rates of female, male and larvae (first through fourth) were 61.4±0.7, 27.6±0.9 eggs/day and 12±1.03, 30.3±2.4, 41.3±2, 68.04±2 eggs/day, respectively. The larvae consumed an average of 992.2±36 eggs during the total larval developmental period with a daily mean of 45.8±0.5. A significant difference was shown between the feeding rate of fourth instar larval stages and between sexes. Females, males and one pair of C. arcuatus (♀,♂) consumed an average of 17.2±0.4, 10.6±0.8, 23.1±0.5 nymph/day; 28.5±0.9, 20.3±0.6, 47.2±0.6 pupa/day and 8±0.3, 6.5±0.54, 13.6±0.4 adult/day, respectively. Stage specific functional response of Harmonia axyridis (Pallas) to varying densities of Aphis gossypii Glover was examined in a simplified cucumber leaf arena under laboratory conditions. All stages of H. axyridis were isolated individually for 24 h with different prey densities at 25 °C and a photoperiod of 16:8 (L:D) h. The number of prey consumed by the predator was checked at 3, 6, 12, and 24 h. All stages of H. axyridis showed a Type II functional response. Based on the random predator equation, estimated attack rates of H. axyridis at 24 h were 0.0037, 0.0442, 0.3590, 0.3228, and 0.1456, and estimated handling times were 4.1001, 2.4575, 0.7500, 0.2132, and 0.1708 h for the first, second, third, and fourth instars, and female adult, respectively.  相似文献
